Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System
So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric
system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three countries in
the world don t use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the Metric Act
was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric system on things like food
labels and in the military. Yet, we continue to use the imperial system (or USCS) for body weight
scales, food recipes, and road signs, which makes it difficult for any foreigner traveling to the U.S., or
any American traveling anywhere else. Therefore, for the ease of Americans, for better interaction
with people from other countries, and for science, medicine, and international commerce, the United
States should convert to the metric system.
First of all, the metric system is much easier to use than the U.S. imperial system. The metric system
is much more organized because it is based on the number 10 and adds prefixes like kilo, milli, and
centi. The system America uses seems almost random and is much more difficult to use. We shouldn t

should convert is because it would make traveling to and from the U.S. a lot easier. Going to a
different country coming from America (and the other way around) can be very confusing if you do
anything that requires measuring food, knowing your weight or height, or knowing the distance to a
place. It shouldn t have to be this way. This difference in measurement systems can even be
dangerous. For example: foreigners traveling to America or Americans traveling somewhere else
would have a lot of difficulty figuring out the speed limit because the road signs would be using miles
per hour when that person thinks in kilometers per hour or vice versa. Why is the United States still
part of the 5% of countries that uses a different system of

My Father Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play The...
After reading the short story, Because My Father Always Said He Was the Only Indian Who Saw Jimi
Hendrix Play The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock by Sherman Alexie, Alexie follows all six
elements such as ideas, organization, voice, word choice, fluidity in sentences and last but not least,
conversation. When looking at the Ideas of the short piece and how it was created, one of the most
noticeable things is the revealing of the plot. Just by looking at the title you have an idea that the short
piece will be about the relationship between the father and with Jimi Hendrix. Alexie reveals in the
information in a chronological order as well as use bigger details that later explain the smaller details
that were in the short piece. For example, in the beginning of the narrator ... Show more content on

Alexie draws in the reader by first telling a short story about her father back in the 1970 s. Alexie then
goes on in briefly telling the reader what prison was like for their father. Eventually moving on to how
the father met the mother and the relationship they father and mother had. This is an interesting take
on the way a child views their father and mother and how the father has craved freedom. The fluidity
of this short piece is excellent, it is not choppy and it gives just enough detail without dragging the
story out. It also helps that this piece is an easy read. One of the things that I enjoyed from the piece
was the comparison to how Indians would live compared to different races mentioned in the piece. I
though it gave the Victor the narrator some personality. Victor also does a lovely job on creating the
images of what his parents and their relationship, as well as his love for his father. The analogy of Jimi
Hendrix and freedom for the freedom was easy to pick up on, especially for when the father had
bought himself a motorcycle and found the freedom he craved (something Jimi Hendrix heavily

Nursing Practice And The Ethics Of Care
Nursing Practice and the Ethics of Care Kelli O Dea Chamberlain College of Nursing Nursing 103
Spring, 2017 Nursing Practice and the Ethics of Care The ability of a nurse to combine the principles
of caring and ethics, is perhaps the best medicine. I ve learned that people will forget what you said,
forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Maya Angelou (n.d.) This
article helps nurses to understand the importance of caring and ethics in patient care. Caring is defined
briefly, Jean Watsons theory of caring is explained. In addition, Joan Toronto s four phases of caring
are exemplified in a patient case scenario. Definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She stresses that this type of union is remembered by the patient, as well as the nurse. Actual caring
involves choices, conversations, and understanding. It defines the moment when a nurse, and a patient
come together and form a relationship. Watson believes this factor of nursing enables a patient to gain
control, knowledge, and make future lifestyle changes. Theory of ethics The Theory of ethics in care is
described by Edwards (2009). His explanation describes the evolution of ethical and care based
treatment, in three versions. First, Gilligan (1982) focuses on the context of the situation in regards to
patient care vs. Impartial reflection. Impartial reflection is the moral based judgement used in patient
care, which does not include closeness or caring in the relationship. Gilligan was the first to point out
that we treat strangers differently than an induvial we are personally connected to. Second, Toronto
(1993) acknowledged, that if we focus on caring relationships and the relationship between power and
caring practices, such as bringing up children, and caring for the sick, a radically different set of social
arrangements will ensue. (Edwards, 2009, p.233). Lastly, Gastmans (2006) explored the best way to

Moonlight Sonata Analysis
The Piano Sonata No.14 in C sharp minor (Moonlight Sonata); Op.27, No.2, was composed by
Ludwig Van Beethoven in 1801. The name Moonlight Sonata was not coined by Beethoven himself,
but instead by the German music critic, Ludwig Rellstab in 1836. Rellstab wrote that the sonata had
reminded him of the reflected moonlight off of Lake Lucerne, hence the Moonlight Sonata became the
unofficial, moreover a permanent title of the piece (The History of the Moonlight Sonata, 2012).
Regarding the reasoning of which Beethoven composed the piece there are two reasonings that have
circulated. Due to the Beethoven experiencing a loss in hearing, it has been interpreted that the piece
itself is a means of him accepting his impending deafness (The History of the Moonlight Sonata). This
can be heard through the slow fluctuation in the treble while there is a sense of weariness in the bass,
which one can argue imparts the sense of acceptance Beethoven may have about becoming less and
less able to hear his music. Therefore, another possible reason for Beethoven to write the piece is that
he had written it out of love for his 17 year old pupil, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi (Giulietta
Guicciardi (1784 1856), Beethoven and Moonlight Sonata, 2013). Regarding the piece itself,
Moonlight Sonata is divided into three movements. The tempo starts out adagio sostenuto for the first
movement, picking up the tempo in the second movement as allegretto, and speeding up further in the

Essay On Apollo 11
In 1969, the United States were the first to accomplish the feat of successfully landing a man on the
moon. In the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin were the first men to land on
the moon. After World War II, another war started, which was the Cold War. The Cold War pitted the
United States and the Soviet Union against each other, thus leading to the two countries fighting and
competing for superiority, which eventually becomes a race for space. In 1959, the Soviet Union
launched Luna 2, which was the first space probe to hit the moon. Then, later in 1961, the Soviet Yuri
Gagarin was the first person to orbit the Earth in the Votstok 1. Due to these accomplishments by the

Networking Skills In The Creative Industry
Networks exist to foster self help, to exchange information, to change society, improve productivity
and work life, and to share resources. They are structured to transmit information in a way that is
quicker, with more high touch, and more energy efficient than any other process we know.
~ John Nasibitt, Megatrends
Introduction (Section 1)
There is a sure component of truth to the way that networking all by itself is to a degree pointless
when contrasted with the capacity to depend upon others and promptly accomplish an imparted or
common result from the relationship with individual networkers. With that out of the way, the
following paper will concentrate particularly upon the meaning of networking, how is accomplished
to, the profits of performing it, the skills essential for powerful networking and in addition an analysis
of my individual network; up to and including a talk of what people or groups are right now included
inside the network, where potential future networks may lie, and how the network map may be
changed or separated later on keeping in mind the end goal to assist future needs. Through this talk, I
trust that the audience will gain a more educated comprehension regarding the need and significance
of networking. What is networking?

propeller disk.
The following equation states that the propeller thrust is equal to the rate of change of axial
momentum at the disk.

With reference to the above diagram, bernoulli equation can also be applied between sections 0 1

Advance Ratio
The advance ratio is a measure of the advancement of the propeller in one revolution, measured in a
number of diameters. The advance ratio is also a scaling parameter,
Indicating that all the propellers with the same J, and geometrically similar, have the same
performance index. The table below shows aircraft speed range for a range of practical advance ratios.

contracts, USEC is examining the possibility of taking on a new project called the American
Centrifuge Project. This project will utilize a different process for Uranium enrichment, which is the

technology is being looked at because it could give a competitive advantage to USEC against its
competitors. ACP will lower the production costs and improve USEC s technology position in the
market. If the company takes on the ACP project, USEC will reach 6.5 million units in production by
2013. A minimal level of maintenance would be required due to the improved technology and better
facilities. ACP would also double the size of USEC as a whole. Cash Flow Calculations We are

Inflation is assumed to be 3% * Flotation costs are ignored for cost of equity. * We assume a risk free

rate of inflation which is 3%. In 2011, the total capacity will be 3.5M (2.5M from ACP and 1M from

Plato s Declaration Of Beauty
Plato describes beauty in the Phaedo as being radiant among other objects , while the other virtues
remain murky in relation to it. Plato s declaration of beauty s radiance indicates that it is significant.
Beauty is observed most clearly by use of vision, which is the sharpest of our bodily senses . Plato
explains that beauty alone has this privilege, to be the most clearly visible and the most loved .
Because of the way in which beauty stands out among the other virtues, Plato confirms that beauty is
dominant over the other virtues. In the Symposium, Diatoma explains how beauty is the highest good
and is in harmony with the divine . Her definition indicates that there is a relationship between
material beauty and divine Beauty. Beauty is intended to lead to Love, which Diatoma defines as
wanting to possess beautiful things forever . Once a man possesses beautiful things, he achieves love
and is happy. A man comes to possess beautiful things through the process of reproduction. In
reproduction, lovers attempt to preserve their beauty by transmitting their beauty to offspring. The
lovers are successful if they give birth to beauty, whether in body or soul . Reproduction immortalizes
the parents beauty, since the offspring possess the parents beauty after they die. According to Diatoma
s definition of Love, the parents who reproduce beauty achieve Love.
In the life of a philosopher, beauty is essential. The goal of philosophy is to achieve a

The Cambodian Genocide In The Twentieth Century
The Cambodian genocide was one of the worst atrocities in the twentieth century. Innocent civilians
living in Cambodia were targeted by a communist group called the Khmer Rouge. Victims such as
Cham Muslims, Buddhist Monks, Christians, and anyone who was considered a threat to the ultimate
goal of the perpetrators were extensively tortured or brutally murdered. Year Zero was a society that
the leader of the Khmer Rouge, Pol Pot, wanted Cambodia to adapt. In order to do carry out his plan,

My Philosophy Of Education Essay
Philosophy of Education My purpose of getting any education was to learn all that I can learn and to
be a productive citizen in today s society. My purpose of getting an education and pursuing a degree in
elementary education is to have an impact on many students futures, change students lives, and to help
students to believe in themselves. I will do this by believing in my students and pushing them to
achieve their goals. As a teacher, I understand that politics and geographic zones have a big influence
on what schools are supplied with, and they can have an impact on the education that a student gets.
As a teacher, I will not let these things get in the way of providing my students with a quality

thing I don t agree with about the educational system in today s society is the standardized testing.

Margaret Mead Warfare
In Margaret Mead s Warfare: An Invention Not a Biological Necessity we see her ideas surrounding
the relationship between biological and cultural influences on an aspect of life and society. Mead s
ideas play off of some of the thoughts mentioned in Ruth Benedict s The Individual and the Pattern of
Culture . Benedict mentions how there ...is always a give and take, (114) that is between culture and
the individual. Which can be related to Mead s mention of how war or fighting is dependant on a
culture s need for that kind of outlet. Because Mead was a student of Benedict s when she was a
professor at Columbia University(112) it becomes evident how some of the similarities in their ideas
had developed.
Although Mead s essay is quite specific to the concept of warfare, it is possible to dissect the essay
and find the underlying ideas she has regarding culture. Mead states that A people can use only the
forms it has, (503) meaning that a group or individual only uses the ideas or ways of life that have
been shown or passed down to them, that they wouldn t use a concept that they had not learned. This
idea helps to explain why what one culture deems as normal, another one doesn t understand ... Show

abnormalities (45,X; 47,XXX) could not be observed (table 3). The CA observed was only X
mosaicism in two of the studies (gupta, Butnarui) as compared to present study (16/43%). The
percentage for X mosaicism was almost equal in a study done by Wong (14/45.1%) and the present
study. The XY female and its variants were not observed in other studies except in two (Opitz, 1/20%;
Kalavathi, 1/11.1%) which was less compared to present study (8/22%). The structural abnormality
was at a higher range in the study done by Kalavathi (6/66.7%) followed by Safai (3/60%).
When the studies on amenorrhea are done in a particular region or racial group, the percentage of CA

Beowulf : The Battle Against Grendel, Grendel s Mother and The Dragon The poet has depicted
Beowulf , the prince of The Geats, as a courageous heroic man of the Anglo Saxon era. He signifies
the true valiant character because he is willing to risk his life for the people and holds strong in his

father a great favour. Beowulf accepts to defeat Grendel, a horrible demon who lives in the

African American Television History
A New Era in Television for African Americans
Television was invented in 1939; and the majority of television shows from 1939 to the 1960 s African
Americans were portrayed as servants, clowns or maids always in a negative light. These characters
begin to change during the 1970 s when black sitcoms became reality based. Even though African
Americans are still portrayed negatively on television, there has been some improvement from the
stereotypical images.
The Jeffersons first aired on CBS in 1975 to 1985. The Jeffersons was a spin off from All in the

Alfred Hitchcock Psycho Scene
The sound that I am going to analyse in this essay is from a particular scene from Alfred Hitchcock s

The Issue Of Women s Suffrage
Blindness separates people from things; deafness separates people from people. (Helen Keller). The
biggest problem when it comes to women s rights is that people refuse to hear that there is a problem.
This situation is very familiar in today s world. People refuse to understand that even though women
do have more rights than they did in the past, there are still issues that need to be addressed. Women s
suffrage is one of the most respected and memorable historical events. This movement has been
forgotten because it has been so long ago, men and women both are losing respect for women s rights.

Humanitarian reforms such as the elimination of cruel punishment, the dissemination of empathy

The Problem Of Economics And Violence
Economics and violence can be seen as closely linked, due to the fact that in news stories today crime
is usually associated with poverty. There is hardly a time when I read the news and the headline doesn
t include a story about an area of lower class people being neglected within their own state. When I
think about economics the first thing that comes to mind is poverty and inequality. All around the
world disparities between the rich and poor, even in the wealthiest of nations is rising quickly. More
people are finding it difficult to support their families as well as maintain a steady paying job.
Structural violence has a major role in economics when it comes to lower class people feeling under
represented by their government officials due to their socio economic statuses, and access to healthy
living. They have no self determination. The reading points out how the poor tend to have very little to
say in government decision making, which generally takes place on behalf of the wealthy and
powerful (453 Barash Webel).
One key aspect of structural violence is that it is often hard to see. In states a lot of things are
overlooked because everything on the outside looks great. Even more difficult than identifying
structural violence is assigning culpability. When people do not have access to the proper medicines
whom do you blame? This often times leads to death. According to Jeong, the world is divided by
income gaps between the rich and the poor (87). This gap has

I think the major reason why Nirvana achieved a worldwide fame rather than just on America soil like
Alice in Chains lies in album Nevermind that Nirvana put out in 1991. That album was easy to listen
without losing any of its core Grunge values that could appeal to anyone. Alice in Chains as I
mentioned previously drew more inspiration from metal therefore their albums were usually much
darker and heavier to listen to which from a global point of view captured less listeners. Nevermind
was just genre defying as it sold over 10 million copies in America alone and won the triple platinum.
Nevermind is a good mix of slow, gloomy and mellow songs combined with fast paced guitar riffs
ending in strangling guitar solos that Kurt loved so much. Usage of soft loud dynamics and heavy
dose of insidious hooks is what makes this album shine. The last song on this album is particularly
interesting because it emphasizes that Cobain was making music clearly for creative expression rather
than more trivial reason like making money or building fame. You can come to that conclusion by
analyzing the song Something in the Way . It has a very dark and haunting feel to it. Simple
melancholic guitar plucks with a following soft bass line combined with not surprisingly depressing
lyrics and a cello on a top of that makes a song that perfectly reflects despair,

Analysis Of Some Keep The Sabbath Going To Church By Emily...
Religious freedom is the United States first American freedom. It is essential to an individual s
spiritual life and their very own salvation. It is the freedom to share one s faith and beliefs in their own
way. Emily Dickinson s poem Some keep the Sabbath going to Church, expresses her own religious
beliefs. The poem is a rejection of traditional religious behavior that takes place during her time. She
sees religion as a private matter for the individual. The poem indicates that one does not have to attend
church in accordance with society to show one s faith and beliefs. She writes, Some keep the Sabbath

The Gettysburg Address, By Fredrick Douglas
All Men Are Created Equal
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in
Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. The Gettysburg Address, by
Abraham Lincoln explains that all men are created equal, thus they should have the freedom to pursue
education, emancipation, and equal rights. Up from Slavery by Booker T. Washington, who was a
freed slave, despite the odds founded the Tuskegee Institute. The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick
Douglas written by Fredrick Douglas is the story of his life as a slave, his courage and his escape.
Their lives and stories inspired other African Americans to seek a better life. Booker and Fredrick
were both authors, orators, freed slaves, and both men valued education. In addition, both men wanted
personal freedom and the freedom of others. Education is the key to unlock the golden door of

The Power Of Money In The Great Gatsby
The Power of Pennies Money is a power that comes with a price. In the 1920 s during the great
depression, money was a huge issue, because of all the people losing their jobs. This caused people to
do whatever they can to get it. In The Great Gatsby the characters suffer from a similar problem: They
all want money, but not all of them have it. They then do whatever they have to do to climb to the top
of the social ladder. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the motif money is power through the
characters Daisy, Myrtle, and Gatsby. Daisy would suffer through any pain as long as she got to be
rich. Gatsby conveys Daisy s lust for money when he says, Her voice is full of money (Fitzgerald
120). Daisy wants money more than anything else; even to the point that it shows in her voice and
actions. Everything she does is meticulously planned around keeping her social status and access to
money alive but not around her own happiness. She is even referred to as The king s daughter and The
golden girl further showing her desire for money(Fitzgerald 120). Daisy perfectly shows how money
can take control of life as it did to hers. Without her desire for money, Daisy would not have done
most of the things she ended up doing in The Great Gatsby. Daisy will be shaped forever by the crude
force of Tom s money (Jr. Leland S). To Daisy, the force of money is so strong that she will allow
others to control how she lives just to obtain its power. Even though Tom is the one who has

addresses God and the issue of slavery in order to encourage the Northern and Southern states towards

Neither party expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it has already attained. Neither
anticipated that the cause of the conflict might cease with, or even before, the conflict itself should
cease. The repetition of Neither gives a similarity that Neither party really expected the duration and
the cause of the war; which will make both parties realize the conflict, and will be encouraged, by
Lincoln, to fix this problem between the sides for a better future for the country. Parallelism is used to
give common qualities among the North and South. Both read the same Bible and pray to the same
God, and each invoked His aid against the other. Even though this is a break in parallelism, Lincoln
uses the word same to show that since the North and South believe and connect with the same God,
they should be connected as a nation as well; this in which will encourage both sides to try and
reconstruct peace between them through this equal quality. Abraham Lincoln utilizes parallel syntax to
convey the equal similarities between the parties about their reactions towards the Civil War. Abraham
Lincoln shifts his tone from condescending to optimistic so that he can reconstruct a nation that goes
from conflict to, hopefully, a resolution. Lincoln s condescending tone is apparent when talking about

However, one of the issues was that even though the benchmark system assisted agencies understand

that the process of linking agencies programs with benchmarks were often symbolic and in some cases

as a state wide unified vision which was able to generate valuable information for the state legislators,
state agencies and non profit organisations. This kind of information in turn helped legislators enact
important legislations, formulate policies and directed state agencies to contribute towards the state s

  • 2. Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three countries in the world don t use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the Metric Act was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric system on things like food labels and in the military. Yet, we continue to use the imperial system (or USCS) for body weight scales, food recipes, and road signs, which makes it difficult for any foreigner traveling to the U.S., or any American traveling anywhere else. Therefore, for the ease of Americans, for better interaction with people from other countries, and for science, medicine, and international commerce, the United States should convert to the metric system. First of all, the metric system is much easier to use than the U.S. imperial system. The metric system is much more organized because it is based on the number 10 and adds prefixes like kilo, milli, and centi. The system America uses seems almost random and is much more difficult to use. We shouldn t have to teach students two different measurement systems just because we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... should convert is because it would make traveling to and from the U.S. a lot easier. Going to a different country coming from America (and the other way around) can be very confusing if you do anything that requires measuring food, knowing your weight or height, or knowing the distance to a place. It shouldn t have to be this way. This difference in measurement systems can even be dangerous. For example: foreigners traveling to America or Americans traveling somewhere else would have a lot of difficulty figuring out the speed limit because the road signs would be using miles per hour when that person thinks in kilometers per hour or vice versa. Why is the United States still part of the 5% of countries that uses a different system of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Father Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play The... After reading the short story, Because My Father Always Said He Was the Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock by Sherman Alexie, Alexie follows all six elements such as ideas, organization, voice, word choice, fluidity in sentences and last but not least, conversation. When looking at the Ideas of the short piece and how it was created, one of the most noticeable things is the revealing of the plot. Just by looking at the title you have an idea that the short piece will be about the relationship between the father and with Jimi Hendrix. Alexie reveals in the information in a chronological order as well as use bigger details that later explain the smaller details that were in the short piece. For example, in the beginning of the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alexie draws in the reader by first telling a short story about her father back in the 1970 s. Alexie then goes on in briefly telling the reader what prison was like for their father. Eventually moving on to how the father met the mother and the relationship they father and mother had. This is an interesting take on the way a child views their father and mother and how the father has craved freedom. The fluidity of this short piece is excellent, it is not choppy and it gives just enough detail without dragging the story out. It also helps that this piece is an easy read. One of the things that I enjoyed from the piece was the comparison to how Indians would live compared to different races mentioned in the piece. I though it gave the Victor the narrator some personality. Victor also does a lovely job on creating the images of what his parents and their relationship, as well as his love for his father. The analogy of Jimi Hendrix and freedom for the freedom was easy to pick up on, especially for when the father had bought himself a motorcycle and found the freedom he craved (something Jimi Hendrix heavily ... Nursing Practice And The Ethics Of Care Nursing Practice and the Ethics of Care Kelli O Dea Chamberlain College of Nursing Nursing 103 Spring, 2017 Nursing Practice and the Ethics of Care The ability of a nurse to combine the principles of caring and ethics, is perhaps the best medicine. I ve learned that people will forget what you said, forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Maya Angelou (n.d.) This article helps nurses to understand the importance of caring and ethics in patient care. Caring is defined briefly, Jean Watsons theory of caring is explained. In addition, Joan Toronto s four phases of caring are exemplified in a patient case scenario. Definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She stresses that this type of union is remembered by the patient, as well as the nurse. Actual caring involves choices, conversations, and understanding. It defines the moment when a nurse, and a patient come together and form a relationship. Watson believes this factor of nursing enables a patient to gain control, knowledge, and make future lifestyle changes. Theory of ethics The Theory of ethics in care is described by Edwards (2009). His explanation describes the evolution of ethical and care based treatment, in three versions. First, Gilligan (1982) focuses on the context of the situation in regards to patient care vs. Impartial reflection. Impartial reflection is the moral based judgement used in patient care, which does not include closeness or caring in the relationship. Gilligan was the first to point out that we treat strangers differently than an induvial we are personally connected to. Second, Toronto (1993) acknowledged, that if we focus on caring relationships and the relationship between power and caring practices, such as bringing up children, and caring for the sick, a radically different set of social arrangements will ensue. (Edwards, 2009, p.233). Lastly, Gastmans (2006) explored the best way to care for a patient, at a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Moonlight Sonata Analysis The Piano Sonata No.14 in C sharp minor (Moonlight Sonata); Op.27, No.2, was composed by Ludwig Van Beethoven in 1801. The name Moonlight Sonata was not coined by Beethoven himself, but instead by the German music critic, Ludwig Rellstab in 1836. Rellstab wrote that the sonata had reminded him of the reflected moonlight off of Lake Lucerne, hence the Moonlight Sonata became the unofficial, moreover a permanent title of the piece (The History of the Moonlight Sonata, 2012). Regarding the reasoning of which Beethoven composed the piece there are two reasonings that have circulated. Due to the Beethoven experiencing a loss in hearing, it has been interpreted that the piece itself is a means of him accepting his impending deafness (The History of the Moonlight Sonata). This can be heard through the slow fluctuation in the treble while there is a sense of weariness in the bass, which one can argue imparts the sense of acceptance Beethoven may have about becoming less and less able to hear his music. Women are not the only people to face discrimination of rights. Everyday, someone is denied of their natural born rights. Whether it be a woman, man, homosexual, animal, or child. It is arbitrary to treat a woman any less than a man, not only because what women are capable of, but because they are people. Everyone on this Earth deserves to be equal. That is why women should have equal rights, to their bodies, labor payment, and health care. The life of a person is very valuable, and should be treated as such. The next time you want to compare or disclose the natural rights of a woman, think about how you would feel if an individual abducted your natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Problem Of Economics And Violence Economics and violence can be seen as closely linked, due to the fact that in news stories today crime is usually associated with poverty. There is hardly a time when I read the news and the headline doesn t include a story about an area of lower class people being neglected within their own state. When I think about economics the first thing that comes to mind is poverty and inequality. All around the world disparities between the rich and poor, even in the wealthiest of nations is rising quickly. More people are finding it difficult to support their families as well as maintain a steady paying job. Structural violence has a major role in economics when it comes to lower class people feeling under represented by their government officials due to their socio economic statuses, and access to healthy living. They have no self determination. The reading points out how the poor tend to have very little to say in government decision making, which generally takes place on behalf of the wealthy and powerful (453 Barash Webel). One key aspect of structural violence is that it is often hard to see. In states a lot of things are overlooked because everything on the outside looks great. Even more difficult than identifying structural violence is assigning culpability. When people do not have access to the proper medicines whom do you blame? This often times leads to death. According to Jeong, the world is divided by income gaps between the rich and the poor (87). This gap has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Key Success Point Of Nirvana And Alice In Chains Angst Anguish, key success points of Nirvana and Alice in Chains Abstract In this essay we will focus on major key success points of two bands that took over the world with their music and changed the perception of mainstream music. We re talking about Nirvana and Alice in Chains, two bands that came from same town, year and music genre and yet are completely different in their own respective ways. We re also going to shed a spotlight on both band s frontmens: Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley, both considered to be the genius song writers. We re going to compare their song writing through their most famous songs as well as their vocal and instrument skills. I choose to do this topic because I ve always considered them a major turn point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the major reason why Nirvana achieved a worldwide fame rather than just on America soil like Alice in Chains lies in album Nevermind that Nirvana put out in 1991. That album was easy to listen without losing any of its core Grunge values that could appeal to anyone. Alice in Chains as I mentioned previously drew more inspiration from metal therefore their albums were usually much darker and heavier to listen to which from a global point of view captured less listeners. Nevermind was just genre defying as it sold over 10 million copies in America alone and won the triple platinum. Nevermind is a good mix of slow, gloomy and mellow songs combined with fast paced guitar riffs ending in strangling guitar solos that Kurt loved so much. Usage of soft loud dynamics and heavy dose of insidious hooks is what makes this album shine. The last song on this album is particularly interesting because it emphasizes that Cobain was making music clearly for creative expression rather than more trivial reason like making money or building fame. You can come to that conclusion by analyzing the song Something in the Way . It has a very dark and haunting feel to it. Simple melancholic guitar plucks with a following soft bass line combined with not surprisingly depressing lyrics and a cello on a top of that makes a song that perfectly reflects despair, ... It is essential to an individual s spiritual life and their very own salvation. It is the freedom to share one s faith and beliefs in their own way. Emily Dickinson s poem Some keep the Sabbath going to Church, expresses her own religious beliefs. The poem is a rejection of traditional religious behavior that takes place during her time. She sees religion as a private matter for the individual. The poem indicates that one does not have to attend church in accordance with society to show one s faith and beliefs. Therefore, to allow for the greatest scope of analysis, different genres of sources have been chosen to explore the relationship between youth culture and different versions of protest in this portfolio. The first source to be examined is a survey from the New York Times. It will be used to analyse the extent to which 1960s youth culture represented a rebellion against the culture of older generations. • 34. The Power Of Money In The Great Gatsby The Power of Pennies Money is a power that comes with a price. In the 1920 s during the great depression, money was a huge issue, because of all the people losing their jobs. This caused people to do whatever they can to get it. In The Great Gatsby the characters suffer from a similar problem: They all want money, but not all of them have it. They then do whatever they have to do to climb to the top of the social ladder. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the motif money is power through the characters Daisy, Myrtle, and Gatsby. Daisy would suffer through any pain as long as she got to be rich. Gatsby conveys Daisy s lust for money when he says, Her voice is full of money (Fitzgerald 120). Daisy wants money more than anything else; even to the point that it shows in her voice and actions. Everything she does is meticulously planned around keeping her social status and access to money alive but not around her own happiness. She is even referred to as The king s daughter and The golden girl further showing her desire for money(Fitzgerald 120). Daisy perfectly shows how money can take control of life as it did to hers. Without her desire for money, Daisy would not have done most of the things she ended up doing in The Great Gatsby. Daisy will be shaped forever by the crude force of Tom s money (Jr. Leland S). To Daisy, the force of money is so strong that she will allow others to control how she lives just to obtain its power. Even though Tom is the one who has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He addresses God and the issue of slavery in order to encourage the Northern and Southern states towards reconciliation. Lincoln tries to reveal his intention by utilizing figurative diction, parallel syntax, and a shifting tone. Neither party expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it has already attained. Neither anticipated that the cause of the conflict might cease with, or even before, the conflict itself should cease. The repetition of Neither gives a similarity that Neither party really expected the duration and the cause of the war; which will make both parties realize the conflict, and will be encouraged, by Lincoln, to fix this problem between the sides for a better future for the country. Parallelism is used to give common qualities among the North and South. Both read the same Bible and pray to the same God, and each invoked His aid against the other. Even though this is a break in parallelism, Lincoln uses the word same to show that since the North and South believe and connect with the same God, they should be connected as a nation as well; this in which will encourage both sides to try and reconstruct peace between them through this equal quality. Abraham Lincoln utilizes parallel syntax to convey the equal similarities between the parties about their reactions towards the Civil War. This kind of information in turn helped legislators enact important legislations, formulate policies and directed state agencies to contribute towards the state s development (Lewis 2000; Ford 2000).
