Persuasive Essays Topics
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Persuasive Essays Topics" can be quite challenging,
requiring a delicate balance between informative content and persuasive rhetoric. The difficulty
lies in the need to not only present a comprehensive understanding of the chosen topic but also
to sway the reader's opinions or perspectives in a convincing manner.
Firstly, identifying a compelling and relevant persuasive essay topic itself can be a formidable
task. The subject matter should be thought-provoking, relevant to the current discourse, and
capable of generating interest among readers. Selecting an appropriate topic sets the stage for the
entire essay, influencing the writer's ability to engage the audience effectively.
Moreover, constructing a persuasive argument demands meticulous research and analysis.
Gathering credible sources, statistics, and examples is essential to fortify the writer's position.
This requires not only time and effort but also a keen eye for evaluating the reliability of
information. The writer must navigate through a vast sea of information to cherry-pick the most
compelling evidence to support their stance.
The actual process of writing the essay involves mastering the art of persuasion. Crafting a well-
structured essay with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a persuasive conclusion is no
small feat. The writer must seamlessly weave together logical arguments, emotional appeals, and
ethical considerations to create a compelling narrative that captivates the reader.
In addition to mastering the art of persuasion, it's crucial to anticipate counterarguments and
address them convincingly. Acknowledging opposing viewpoints and refuting them with sound
reasoning adds depth and credibility to the essay. This requires a nuanced understanding of the
topic and the ability to anticipate and counter potential objections.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Persuasive Essays Topics" is indeed a challenging endeavor.
It demands the skillful synthesis of research, critical thinking, and persuasive communication.

Old Testament Essay
Old Testament Essay In the Beginning: At the beginning of the universe. God
created heaven and earth in six days and rested on the seventh. During those six
days God spoke to the darkness and created the world, brought forth light, created
the sky, land and animals and plants to inhabit them. However, even during this
creation he was contemplating the creation of a being made in his own image. He
created man from dust and named him Adam, but Adam was lonely; so God took
from Adam a rib. With Adam s rib God created a woman and called her Eve. Adam
and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden to live in harmony with God. The
garden was a perfect utopia for Adam and Eve. However, evil soon entered the
garden in the form of a serpent. One day when Eve was walking in the garden she
encountered the evil serpent who encouraged her to take a fruit from one of God s
forbidden fruit trees. The serpent succeeded in deceiving Eve to take a fruit; she
then ate the fruit and shared it with Adam. Then God became angry with Adam and
Eve for betraying Him. To punish Adam and Eve, he ejected them from the garden
and subjecting them to mortality, painful childbirth, sin and shame. Now that Adam
and Eve had entered into the world outside the garden they were left to fend for
themselves. They had two sons Cain and Abel. Cain became a farmer and Able
became a herdsman. They both offered God a sacrifice but Abel s sacrifice
High Schools And School Schools
Armed and Educated
Columbine, Sandy Hook, and the UT Tower shooting are just a few examples of the
terror parents, teachers, and students face today. More and more massacres and
threats are affecting our schools on a daily basis. No one should fear to receive an
education and certainly no parent should fear their child entering the doors of an
elementary school. What can we do to prevent these tragedies from happening
again? How can we strip the worry from the men, women and children involved in
our educational systems at work today? The only options to putting an end to the
untimely and unfair deaths of our teachers and students is tighter security, psych
evaluations, and armed personnel. This means of security should not only be
present in high schools or Jr. Highs, but should be present in all of our educational
buildings, including colleges, elementary schools and child care centers. All of the
places listed should be aware and willing to respond with any force necessary to
protect their lives and the lives of others. More security cameras, attending at least
one anti bullying program per school year, teachers need training to psychologically
assess a troubled student, and armed teachers should all play a role in defending and
keeping our schools safe. This is not taking our freedom but protecting our right to
live and learn.
Security cameras can be spotted in many places including stores, airports, gas
stations, and school buildings. All of the surveillance equipment

Measure the width of the coarse opening at the top, middle, bottom and the height
at both sides and in the middle end. If the difference between the three width sizes
or the three height sizes of the coarse opening is more than 1 inch, cut tapered
plaster strips from stud stock and nail them to the sides of the opening that are out
of level. Be sure the outside scopes of the window are at least Вѕ inch slimmer and
ВЅ inch shorter than the tiniest width and height measurements, correspondingly.
Otherwise, if they re not, you ll have to either reframe the opening or order a new
window of the same size.

In process of placing the window, you bend out the window unit s nailing fins so as

bottom of the coarse space, and angle the frame into the opening until all the nailing
fins are tight alongside the wall. Then have an assistant stand inside and to tell you

Statement Of Ford Motor Company Income Statement
Income Statement Ford Motor Company The income statement is one of three
financial statements that stock investors need to become familiar with (the other
two are balance sheet and cash flow statement) (Loth, 2017). The income statement
is created of four sections: sales or revenue, cost of goods or services sold,
expenses, and net profit/loses. Sales/revenues is how much revenue the company
brought in by selling its products or services. Cost of goods/services sold is how
much the company spent to purchase or produce the products or services it sold.
Expenses is how much the company spent to keep the doors of the business open.
Essentially, this includes all expenses except those spent specifically on the cost of
goods or services sold. Net Profit or Loss: the bottom line that tells whether the
company made a profit or operated at a loss (Epstein,2014). This might lead you to
the question of what the purpose of the income statementis? Once you understand the
income statement you will understand how well a company is doing or not doing. In
this paper, it will analyze the income statement of Ford Motor companyfrom
December 2010 2012.
Purpose of an Income Statement The purpose of an income statement is to allow
companies, investors, accountants, and auditors to analyze the key and pertinent
items that lead to profit or loss from a different perspective by calculating each
number on the income statement as a percentage. This allows for an easier

I Was Arrested For 11th Degree Criminal Trespassing
On December , I was arrested for 3rd degree criminal trespassing. That day I was
heading to go see my dad at the hospital. He had suffered his second stroke and
doctors wanted to talk about what is possible for him since he was hooked on
machines and unable to move or communicate in anyway for himself, i was also
his power of attorney so i would speak for him. I was focused on nothing more than
seeing my dad, but first i had to drop off my friend s shoes she had let me borrow.
Along the way i saw a walmart and i had not eaten all day and thoughti could go in to
get some snacks and a smoothie for my dad. I called my friend to come pick me up
at the walmart instead and drive me to the hospital. She didn t live far so i thought
by the time i came out the store she would have already been outside waiting for
me, but that wasn t the case. My phone had died at that point so i had no way of
calling her to let her know where i would be, so i decided to sit in front of the store
where she could see me since the bench inside was taken by a woman and her kids.
5 minutes later an officer came asking me what i was doing there. I explained to
him that i was waiting for a friend to come pick me up and that she ll be here soon.
He said okay but then proceeded to ask me questions like how many times have I
been arrested or how long i have been away from home or rather or not i bought the
items in my bag. I didn t understand why he was asking me all of those questions and
began to feel
Essay about Comparing Hitler and Napoleon
Comparing Hitler and Napoleon
There were differences between Hitler and Napoleon, however I feel there were more
similarities. They were both immigrants in the country they ended up ruling, both
conquered most of Europe, both had radical views about fighting, and both were very
quick in their fighting. However, the most significant similarities between the two
leaders is how they were accepted as monarchs in a previously democratic society,
and what they did for the countries after becoming monarchs.
Hitler and Napoleon were accepted as monarchs for three major reasons. Both
countries were hoping for the returning strength of the monarchy. The people of
Germany and France were tired of inflation, and threats of invasion, and both ... Show

By eliminating the economic crisis in their countries and establishing a feeling of
national security, they raised national pride and patriotism to amazing levels.
Both men also had similar radical views about fighting. Both called for a fight to the
death when enemy armies were approaching, and when their countries had exhausted
all of their manpower, they both used children and teens in their fighting. Hitler used
the Hitler youth, and Napoleon used the Marie Louises, who were only fifteen years
old. However, the speed of their fighting may be the most amazing.
Hitler, under his personal command and planning conquered all of Poland in only 24
days, and Napoleon conquered most of Austria and all of Sardinia in 9 days. They
both followed these victories with even larger, faster victories. Hitler took over the
Netherlands, Holland, Belgium and France in just 25 days, and Napoleon
conquered Italy and more of Austria ;in less than one year. This may not sound so
big, but Napoleon had only 30,000 soldiers to start with against over 100,000. Both
men took much from the countries they conquered. They sent back bullion, art and
other valuables. Both captured many soldiers and a large amount of supplies and
weapons as well. Their tactics were described as lightening wars by their oppositions.
Another, more interesting, similarity between Hitler and Napoleon was that they

Writing Reflection Essay
Writing is an activity which allows me to express thoughts I can not always
verbalize. I enjoy writing, but typically need time to get my thoughts in order. The
benefit to writing down my thoughts, as opposed to speaking them, is that I can edit
and decide if my written words match my thoughts. In the following paragraphs, I
will look at the class assignments and appraise them to determine what I have
learned this semester. The first three topics we were assigned to write about were
personal narrative, evaluation and argument. Our first assignment was to write a
personal narrative, and I chose to write about what I have learned from my family.
This was a fun paperto write, and I later shared it with my family. I enjoyed letting
them know... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was more challenging than I thought it would be because initially, I wrote more
of a justification than an evaluation. I could have chosen to rewrite this paper using
an easier topic to evaluate, such as which airline is better or what is the best sport.
However, I wanted to continue to evaluate my feelings about working in an animal
shelter. Figuring out how to make this topic work as an evaluation would be a
weakness, but I believe I turned it in to a strength by clarifying my thoughts and
feelings about this job option. I m still not sure if I completed the assignment as it
was intended. Nevertheless, I m pleased with the results, and I intend to use this
paper as part of my cover letter when I apply for a job. The third assignment was an
argument, and I enjoyed this topic the most. I chose to write about why I believe
same sex marriage should be legal. I adamantly believe in the right and equality of
marriage for every human, and it is obviously a contentious current event. I believe
my strength in this assignment is my ability to state my beliefs in a rational and
relevant way. My weakness in this paper was in citing the sources I used in my
research. In the twenty years since I have been in college, I have rarely needed to
write a paper which required me to recognize other authors or documents. Thus, I was
not all sure about how to set
Comparision Of Microscale Masses Of Hydrogen And
Oxygen
Abstract
In this experiment, microscale quantities of hydrogen and oxygen were generated to
test their explosive nature both separately and in mixtures of various proportions in
order to identify the mixture with the most explosive energy, via a pop test that
measured relative loudness, thus determining the optimal ratio for their combustion
reaction to give water, and determine a mole ratio for the reaction in a balanced
equation. Each gas mixture was then tested for power as fuel through the launching
of a micro mole rocket. The gases were produced via two separate generators which
isolated a chemical reaction to either produce oxygen or hydrogen gas, the reactions
included the single replacement reaction reaction of zinc and hydrochloric acid to
generate hydrogen gas, and the yeast catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide
to generate oxygen gas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gas collection bulbs were filled with different proportions of each gas,
proportional to the number of moles of gas present, and were tested for relative
loudness, which represented power/ explosive energy via a pop test in which a
match was struck near the bulb. The loudness was measured via a scale in which
the most explosive mixture was given a ten and the least explosive given a zero.
The ratios were tested for their ability to launch the bulb a distance during a rocket
launch in which the bulb rocket was placed on a launch pad and ignited by a piezo
sparker. Both dependent variables, distance and loudness represented overall
explosion energy and were used to indicate which of the ratios represented the
optimum ratio of hydrogen and oxygen to give water in a combustion reaction. To
be considered valid, the amount of error in each data point must have fallen into the
range of average deviation of the measurements. Data was error prone for relative
loudness was measured based on blind perception of a
Narrative Essay On Agoraphobia
Have you ever imagined something in the highest esteem and when it came down
to the experience, it did not live up to the hype? This was true for me in my
experience on a highly anticipated visit to the so called happiest place on earth ,
with a name like that will the hype ever be met or exceeded? Sleepless nights led
up to the much anticipated trip to Disneyworld where dreams of mice, princesses
and magic danced in my head. It seems as if in an instant I woke up to a nightmare
when the agoraphobia set in. As a small child, it seemed as if my world revolved
around the catchy tunes and Technicolor that flooded the family television. Disney s
fantasied storytelling captured and enraptured me into its dream world with nothing
less than my full attention and excitement. As I danced and sang with wild abandon,
these are the moments my cognitions were being formed. The creation of these

While I could have ran away from dissonant situations within the park I decided to
take a different approach to shifting the source of the dissonant elements in my
mind. Here I had to move forward from holding onto memories from the past by
creating new ones with the same characters I know and love. This was only
possible due to the conscious decision to change my perception of events as well as
attitudes towards these when they proved to lean towards unsavory such as standing
in line for hours on end or the wanting desire to escape the midsummer heat. The
added effort allowed me to rationalize the values of what I was experiencing and to
embrace it all. A redefinition of my experiential goals lead to the modification of the

incorporates many musical elements. When I first listened to this song, I was
shocked by how amazing it sounded, this is a very beautiful choral piece. The
song is an acapella piece and he uses very rich harmonies that switch from being
consonant and dissonant. There are also parts of the song when they sing in unison.
One big element that he uses in this song is imitative polyphony. At the part of the
song when the choir sings Then died that she ,the soprano comes in then the alto
then the tenor then the bass and there are also other parts of this song where that
occurs. He also used a lot of dynamic contrast in this song. There were parts of the
song where they would crescendo and decrescendo and this would shape the phrases.
The song utilized soft dynamics like pianissimo and loud dynamics like

Ski Lift Research Paper
When I was eight years old, a few days before Christmas, I, my family, and our
neighbors all went up to Ruidoso. We stayed in a cabin near where my cousin, and
aunt and uncles were staying. We all had a wonderful time there, and I can
remember it being one of the best Christmases that I ve ever had. I had a blast every
day we were at Ruidoso. One of the activities I remember doing was skiing. Skiing is
not one of my best skills. I had gone skiing with my mom, my dad, and our, and I
was a little bit nervous about it. So, I got on the skilift, and sat there, frightened of
being up so high from the ground. As the ski lift was dropping down, I was
wondering how I was going to get off of the lift. So when my feet touched the
ground, I
Hetch-Hetchy Valley was first discovered in 1871 by John...
Hetch Hetchy Valley was first discovered in 1871 by John Muir. Muir referred to
this valley to Yosemite Valley because of its glamorous views. The name of this
valley is derived from Miwok word hatchhatchie, meaning edible grass (tchistory).
Hetchy Hetch was used shortly after as a reservoir and water system for the Bay
Area. Hetch Hetchy Valley is located in the Yosemite National Park
of California.
Water from Hetch Hetchy was delivered through the damming of the Tuolumne River
at around 3,800 feet elevation; it travels through complex tunnels through the Sierra
Nevada. The Hetch Hetchy Valley presents two of the tallest waterfalls in North
America. This valley is also a place where visitors can witness the beautiful wildlife
and water... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even then, the proposal was rejected for a few years. At the time, San Francisco
received water support from Lake Eleanor, but both the lake and the valley was
demanded. There was much criticism to set up this dam by many conservatives
and Muir himself. The proposal finally passed in 1913 even after much opposition
from all over the country. This Hetch Hetchy project began and the O Shaughnessy
Dam was built. The construction of this dam cost $100 million and 68 lives. This
dam streamed water over 160 miles to reach the Bay Area. This project was further
improved in 1928 when San Francisco voters approved of the $24 million payment,
which was completed in 1934. San Francisco voters decided to give the Hetch
Hetchy project another improvement in 1947; $25 million was invested for a
second pipeline from the reservoir. In 1961, over $100 million in bonds was used
to develop and expand the project. In 1970, the Sierra Club wanted the restoration
of the valley and the removing of reservoirs from both Eleanor Dam and O
Shaughnessy Dam. This idea and proposal was rejected in 1988 with the reason that
it would cost too much funding to return Hetch Hetchy to its original form and would
bring about the water problem in the Bay Area. The movement to recover the valley
was firm as Restore Hetch Hetchy, a non profit organization with Sierra Club
members and other environmental organizations, was pushing studies to find an

Examples Of Friendship In Julius Caesar
A utopian idea exists of the unbreakable and unfailing bond between close friends.
Such is the case in the tale of Damon and Pythias by Aristoxenus. These men had a
strong bond, and they trusted each other, even in the face of death. Their example
caused the idea of true friendship to be emulated, encompassed, and engineered by
this tale. True friendshipis a priceless treasure; true friendship is unconditional. In
Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar, the characters of Brutus and Cassius appear to
have a good relationship, and some go as far as to say that these men were true
friends with a secure bond, like Damon and Pythias. Sadly, this is incorrect. Brutus
and Cassius relationship was superficial and weak, upon it was an uneven bond
generated between the two men.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first act, Cassius wants Brutus to join the conspiracy, but instead of outright
saying it, he beat around the bush for several minutes. First he speaks of Caesar s
mortality: He had a fever when he was in Spain...How he did shake (Act l.Scene
ii.119, 121). Then Cassius says Brutus and Caesar: what should be in that Caesar ?
/ Why should that name be sounded more than yours? /...Upon what meat doth this
our Caesar feed, / That he is grown so great? Age, thou art shamed! / (Act l.Scene
ii.142 143, 149 150). Cassius feels the need to keep his real intent from Brutus; he
feels the need to manipulate his friend in order to get Brutus support. If Brutus and
Cassius were really as close as many presume, then Cassius would have been straight
forward with Brutus, instead, he had to tread lightly around his

who can bring in the biggest. It also means getting out into nature, and in some
cases; you may have to venture way out into the woods where vehicles are unable
to go. This can make keeping your catch a little difficult. To carry large game, you
would need a large cooler, but they can often be too heavy to carry deep into the
woods, but to stay fresh; it needs to be iced quickly. How do you handle it?

This allows you to get rid of the waste and it does help to keep the meat fresh. The
main goal of this is often to let it bleed out so that it does not end up tasting bad

individual meals that they can prepare when they get to camp or back home. These
hunters know that icing the meat down is the key and often carry along a cooler for
backpacking that makes it easier on them to do

Animal Companionship
Animal companionship is a widespread phenomenon throughout the world. Humans
search for companionship in animals; they view animals as confidents that will
never betray them. Animals provide many benefits such as reducing stress, helping
lower blood pressure, help fight depression, and improving ones emotional and
mental health. The emotional ties that owners have towards their pets may at times
depend on what type of animal is involved. The types of relationships that dogs
have with their owners at times depend on how the owner perceives the relationship.
Many owners view their relationship with their pets as a strong bond similar to a
best friend. Dogs occupy a significant role in their owner s lives.
In the article Dogs Attention to Human Perception: Influence of Breed Groups and
Life Experiences written by Heberlein, Manser, and Turner (2017) tested whether
dogs of different breeds differed in their ability to their owner s perception. They
tested their perception by two different factors, through genetic relatedness between
dog breeds and by their working style differences. The study examined how dogs are
attentive to human communication, perception, and attention.
The goal of the study was to further investigate dog s attention to human perception,
by focusing on the differences between breeds. It was expected that dogs that were
bred specifically for helping humans, such as herding dogs. Were more likely to pay
more attention to their owner s perception than an
Van Cliburn, an Ambassador of Musical Diplomacy Essay
Van Cliburn, an Ambassador of Musical Diplomacy
After the vast destruction of the Second World War, Europe, and the United States
had been shaken. With the existence of nuclear technology and unresolved
Communist rule, the fear of World War III was common, and nobody could predict
the devastation it could cause. From this fear rose the Cold War, a battle consisting of
no fighting, but rather unsettling diplomatic tensions between the United States and
Soviet Union. By the mid 1900 s these tensions were at an all time high, and it was
thanks to a performance by the renowned pianist, Harvey L. Van Cliburn, that the
world was shown a thaw between the two feuding superpowers. Despite the rise of
Cold War tensions in the late 1950 s, Van... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cliburn made his first orchestral debut after winning a state wide competition by
playing Tchaikovsky s Concerto in B flat. And then, at age seventeen, Cliburn began
attending the Julliard School of Music in New York City. The transition from his
mother, to a new piano teacher was a difficult one. I always threatened [my mother]

Cliburn claimed. He had only agreed to be taught by a new teacher if it were Olga

arrival. Despite his rough start, at Julliard, Cliburn was extremely successful. In his
third year, he participated in the Leventritt competition, winning first prize, allowing
him to debut in Carnegie Hall. Just three years later, at the age of 23, Cliburn would
compete in the International Tchaikovsky Competition, winning gold, as his idol,
Sergei Rachmaninoff, had many years before. Although Van Cliburn had already
built a well known reputation as a classical pianist, Cliburn s true source of fame was
his participation in the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, an

The objective of this experiment was to determine the role of various chemicals in a
reaction, to determine how concentration affects the rate of the reaction, and to
determine how temperature affects the rate of the reaction. Both concentration and
temperature greatly affect the rate at which the reaction occurred, and changing the
concentrations of the reactants or the temperature at which the reaction occurred
changed how quickly the reaction took place.
The scientific aim of this experiment was to determine which reagents sped up and

The last part of this experiment introduced temperature as the manipulated variable in
order to determine if a change in temperature, while keeping all other variables
constant, would change the reaction time.
The procedure to complete this experiment was ultimately left up to the experimenter.
The following process is what was conducted in order to obtain the results as outlined
in this paper.
The reactants provided for this experiment were hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), sodium
thiosulfate (Na2S2O3), 0.0435 M potassium iodide (KI), 0.072 M acetic acid

were used to measure out the reactants throughout the various trials in order to
ensure that the volume was noted. A hot plate was used during the temperature
trials, as was a large beaker full of ice, which served as an ice bath for a smaller
The Odyssey, Medea, And Oedipus The King
While our class has been covering different aspects of Greek civilization, I was
assigned to read the literature from that time period. Some examples of the literature I
read was The Iliad, The Odyssey, Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings
show direct relations to the concepts and ideas that occurred in Greek civilization
during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes throughout these stories are
religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality towards others
are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views
of the Greek civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The
Greeks were known to have been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple
gods/goddesses. They believed these gods constantly interfered with their lives, both
in good and bad ways, which is shown in the literature. Not only do the characters
pray or converse with these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One important value the Greeks held was hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus
travels through many different places. As he encounters new people, they often
welcome him in immediately. In fact, hospitality was so common that whenever
Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by cyclops, he assumes he is welcome
and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of hospitality in the literary
works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects
with their religious beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality
to others on behalf of their gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One
example of this would be in the Iliad, where Achilles welcomes in other men such
as Odysseus to his hut and prepares them food. He does this before asking about
their intentions. This seems a little weird by today s standards, as this happened
before Achilles had joined their side in

Hook Up Culture
The hook up , a developing phenomenon that has been rapidly growing in
adolescents and young adults in the western world for the last decade, which has
resulted in a cultural dating shift, an escalation of drugs and alcohol abuse, as well
as emotional and physical consequences (). The term hook up is known as brief
uncommitted sexual between two individuals who are not romantically involved but
consensually indulge in sexual activities including kissing, oral sex, penetrative
intercourse (Garcia 2012). A hook up more often than not originates from people
enjoying a party or club like setting, but can facilitated between individuals who are

2000). Alcohol use, even intoxication is a dominant contributor to the recent hook
up culture (Flack et al. 2007) and definitely a motivator to engage in intercourse
during a hook up. Women report consuming a median of four drinks prior to
hooking up, while men report a median of six drinks (England et al. 2008). Being
under the influence in a social setting acts as a lubricant and helps people
overcome their inhibitions and anxieties on a social and sexual level. The simple
act of approaching or conversing with a person you are attracted to can be
extremely nerve wracking, but with the attack of alcohol on the nervous system it
is easier for people to talk and eventually express their sexual desires because they
stop worrying about rejection and judgements. Once individuals surpass these
fears it easy to pursue what they want and desire, so if man sees a girl in a bar he
is interested, is a few drinks deep he more often than not will have no problem
approaching in her hopes that he can take her hope and engage in sexual activity.
Sadly this effects our ability to form genuine connections with people as most of these
hook ups will not normally result in a romantic relationship later down the road, but
rather just more casual sex contributing and building to the hook up culture that we

An Analysis of Looking for Alaska by John Green
Looking for Alaska is a book about a boy named Miles that goes away to a private
school called Culver Creek were he meets a group of friends that he starts to hang
out with throughout the year. He becomes very good friends with everyone and
they begin to let him in on their secret spot called the smoking hole , where they all
smoke their cigarettes without getting in trouble. Soon he starts to get a crush on a
girl named Alaska, which seems to already have a boyfriend. As soon as Miles starts
to fall in lovewith her a horrible thing happens. Alaska dies in a terrible car accident,
which turns into a very mysterious and confusing death. When Miles and the other
boys get the news, they start fighting to find out the truth on what really happened.
After reading this novel, one is left with the question, How will we ever get out of
this labyrinth of suffering?
Over the course of the novel, Green s characters set out to answer this problem.
While the problem is catalyzed by Alaska, she doesn t answer the question alone.
Indeed, after her death (accident? suicide?), Pudge and the Colonel are left alone
to try and answer the question for themselves. However, before Alaska goes, she
does leave some clues as to what she believes the labyrinth is, and how she thinks
you have to escape. It s not life or death, the labyrinth [said Alaska]. Um, okay. So
what is it? [said Pudge]. Suffering, she said. Doing wrong and having wrong things
happen to you. That s the problem.
Anaerobic Respiration Rate By Co2
The influence of CO2 depends on CO2 concentration, time of exposure, type and
stage of maturity of the product (Fonseca et al., 2002). Elevated levels of CO2
cause reduction in respiration rate, however, concentrations of 20% CO2 leads to
significant increase in anaerobic respiration (i.e. ethanol and acetaldehyde
production), and irreversibly damages the tissues. Similar to decreased O2 level,
increased CO2 concentration also inhibits the decarboxylation reactions of normal
respiratory process causing it to shift to the anaerobic pathway (Kader and
Saltveit, 2002. Variable patterns of respiration were observed among different
commodities. Pal and Buescher (1993) reported decrease in respiration rate at 10%
CO2 and increase at 30% CO2. The idea of respiratory inhibition by CO2 was first
supported by simple explanations, i.e., that CO2 was a product of the respiration
process and, caused simple feedback inhibition (Herner, 1987; Wolfe, 1980).... Show

Another theory postulated that CO2 has the strong influence on mitochondrial
activity including succinate and citrate oxidation. Some anticipated the inhibition of
C2H4 production rather than the direct effect on respiration, which was supported
by a study conducted by Kubo et al. (1989) that reported the influence of CO2 only
on products producing ethylene. Some fruits and vegetables (e.g. lettuce) are
sensitive to high levels of CO2 and result in CO2 injury when exposed to the levels
above its tolerance limit (Kader, et al., 1989; Ke and Saltveit, 1989). The general
schematic representation of effect of CO2 and O2 concentrations on the aerobic and
anaerobic respiration rate is presented in figure

Elton Mayo And Alienation
Frederick Taylor, Elton Mayo, and Alienation
The nineteenth century was a time ripe with progress and hope due to booming
industrialization. As organizations and workforces grew, people looked for ways to
increase their productivity and profit margins. New ideas were needed to satisfy
both business owners and their employees and as such, along came theorists such as
Marx or other contributors like Frederick Taylor and Elton Mayo. Taylor produced a
management style coined Scientific Management whereas Mayo took a slightly
different route and conducted the Hawthorne studies. Over the years theorists such as
Marx, with his wildly popular theory about alienation in the workplace, have shaped

He believed that these employees were easily replaceable for less pay. These kinds
of procedures and ideas created an environment that was ripe for alienation. In an
attempt to satisfy workers, In return for a workers lost dignity, freedom, power and
skill, Taylor promised higher pay (Hoopes 48). Taylor also created the differential
piece rate (Hoopes 38) which would further alienate workers from each other,
claiming it improved production. Overall, Taylor s theory of scientific management
created a good environment for business owners but it only fueled alienation between
the workers and the workers and society. Elton Mayo is best known for the
Hawthorne effect. Mayo was well educated, studying at several different universities
including engineering at the University of Glasgow. Mayo faced a lot of rejection
during his career but his work greatly influenced our working environments today. He
believed that industries were destroying communal harmony and that production
would increase if the workers were better taken care of. He is quoted as saying that
workers must rise above indignation and frustration which the...new industrial society
forced on workers (Hoopes 130). These new managerial styles in addition to a
capitalist leaning society created an unfriendly environment for the majority of
workers. Despite his attempts, his theories and ideas often fell

air pollution and emissions of gases such as sulphur dioxide can cause acid rain,
which acidifies the soil, rendering it unsuitable for growth of crops and greenery.
Much of the harmful gases come from manmade sources, such as power plants,
factories and vehicles. Particulates also a cause of smog, which can cause plenty of
ill effects. Exposure to the ozone, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen
dioxide contained in the smog can cause inflamed lung passages and pain while
inhaling. Cleaner air can help a city economically. In recent years, many expatriates
have returned to their country of origin due to the deteriorating quality of the air in
Hong Kong, reducing the skilled workforce available in the city. In 2005, US$300
million was lost due to medical bills and lost productivity caused by the bad air
pollution. Prospective new hires are even turning down job offers because of

What Is Meant by State Recognition in International Law
What is meant by state recognition in international law INTRODUCTION Some

What are the rights and duties, the powers and immunities that attach to an entity
because it is a State? Crawford gives a list of five exclusive and general legal
characteristics of States: (1) States have plenary competence to perform acts in the
international sphere make treaties and so on. (2) States are exclusively competent
with respect to their internal affairs exclusive means plenary and not subject to
control by other States. (3) States are not subject to international process without
their consent. (4) States are regarded in international law as equal , it is a formal,
not a moral or political principle. (5) States entitled to benefit from the Lotus
presumption, especially that any derogation from the previous principles must be
clearly established. These are the criteria and the consequences of being a State, the
next chapter will focus on to be accepted as a State. II. RECOGNITION At the
beginning of XX century, there were nearly fifty states in the world arena, just before
the World War II the number reached approximately seventy five and in 2005, there
were almost 200. Each State creation, again and with some problems, put the
recognition concept on the agenda of international community. Recognition has
become much important especially by reason of its results. What is meant by
recognition of States? Grant defines
Summary Of War Is Kind By Stephen Crane
In War is Kind , Stephen Crane used an experienced military officer tasked with
giving death notifications as well as commanding soldiers on the battlefield to
reveal his disillusion and contempt with war by conveying sympathy for the people
left behind, the shock of perception versus reality, the overall futility of war itself,
dehumanization of soldiers, and the power of war to take and destroy. Crane
manipulates his readers to feel sympathy for his characters through diction,
alliteration, and onomatopoeia which create tone. In stanzas one, three, and five,
the speaker is tasked with giving a death notification to women who lost important
men in their life. He uses the terms maiden , babe , and mother to describe the
women and give them some humanity as well as a connection to the fallen men
(Crane 1, 12, 23). These descriptors imply that these women were important to the
men they lost and the men were important to them. Mother , specifically implies
this woman lost a son and provider for not just herself but her family (Crane 23).
Readers are also supposed to feel sympathy for the maiden who was left to live out
the rest of her days with unfulfilled love (Crane 1). Compared to other synonyms,
maiden is the most innocent sounding invoking the readers to feel more sympathy
for the girl. If Crane would have used the word spinsteror single, connotations
loneliness and old maid are implied instead of connotations of youth and innocence
implied with the word
The Thousand Splendid Suns Political Power
Karan Patel Arleanne Marquard English III September 8th,2015 Influence of
Politics and Control on the Individual Since the middle ages the influence of
political powers had a great affection in the major parts of the world. Political
power is the power given to an authority in order to maintain and control the
behavior of individuals by several ways. Political powers could be either rule by
legitimate authority or under the political influence of corruptive force. In today s
world, countries with low economy have a higher risk of giving birth to corruptive
civlization. Since, there s low economy countries like Afghanistan are likely to face
war as the corrupted force rules over them. Thus, the novel The Thousand Splendid

As the animosity grew more between the groups, people of Afghanistan gets
separated from each other. The novel The Thousand Splendid Suns explains how one
group rules over others created destruction in peoples relationship. For example, in a
quote from Babi There were plenty of different ethnic groups in Afghanistan which
create plenty of tension between them. In this quote Babi states that a person should
not be determine by their background since they all are humans means they must be

The Problem Of Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration, particularly of unaccompanied minors and single mothers, has
increased to an unmanageable level and become a contentious and confusing political
topic. This paper will effort to outline the current situation by providing background
of the issue here in the US, describe the drivers that lead to the peoples emigration
from their largely Central American home countries including an examination of US
responsibility in the destabilization of these countries, and what measures can be
taken in both the US and home countries to help bring the situation under control and
manage immigrationfor these populations going forward.

Any solution to the current situation will ultimately be equally complex and must
involve actions taken both in the United States and in the countries from where so
many are leaving.
Though this issue has seen tremendous traction in the media this year, this has been a
problem over the last several years. Before the spike in immigrants seen three years
ago, the United States routinely apprehended between five and ten thousand
unaccompanied minors each year. In addition, before the spike, the minors
predominately were Mexican, not Central American. With the spike, the
demographics of the immigrants seemed to change overnight, and the numbers of
immigrants from the Northern Triangle have far surpassed those coming from
Mexico. Since 2011, the numbers of unaccompanied minors has doubled each year,
from eight thousand in 2011 to twenty in 2012, to near forty in 2013. For fiscal year
2014, the Customs and Border Patrol estimates that more than eighty thousand minors
will have been apprehended at the border. Further, they have published estimates that
show they expect to see numbers in excess of two hundred thousand in fiscal year
2015.
It is important to show that the flow of minors from Northern Triangle countries is
not unidirectional to the United States. Other countries in the region are also seeing
large numbers of migrants coming across their borders. People are seeking refuge
Teenage Drinking In The Media
Alcohol is the drug of choice chosen by many young children, adolescence years
are when many children start to experiment with alcohol. Socialising and drinking
tend to be a rising factor as many children go into the teenage years. Alcohol is
becoming a massive concern for many parents as their kids are starting to try it out
and many factors play into this. Each year approximately 5,000 young people under
the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking. Adolescents drinking is put out to
be exaggerated in some cases, but looking at that the statistics it is clear to see that
the Medias portrayal of adolescents drinking is accurate.
Adolescents drinking is not viewed over in the media, only a very few percentage
of reported incidents of adolescents drinking have been on the news, and the ones
that go on are only the major incidents that happen. This gives viewers the feeling
that teenage drinking is rare and it isn t a vast problem, while it actually is. 40% of
alcohol related fatal car crashes involves teens and 60% of all teen deaths in car
crashes are alcohol related. Everyday an average of 11,318 teenagers try alcohol for

Adolescence drinking has become a massive concern, as children at the age of 11

and not taken into thought, the age of drinking will continue to drop and adolescent

Authority In Ayn Rand s Anthem
It has become blatantly obvious that history repeats itself similar events reoccur
and have nearly identical outcomes. The rise and fall of civilization comes as the
ocean, rising to its highest point and then falling down to its knees but only to find
itself climbing back up again. The book Anthem shows the extent a government and
its citizens are willing to go to preserve the idea of a perfect society. But with this
great society come sacrifices and challenges the people must find ways to accept,
examples are, having complete trust in authority figures, the idea that the group as a
whole is more important, and they must accept that there is only one way to achieve
this perfect society. Through fear and propaganda, the citizens begin to have a closed
mind and only see what they are told to see and question nothing.... Show more

Through this trust people will become very obedient and will feed into any idea
that authority provides good or bad. PhD Candidate Sarda Joshi explains, If
complying with a request is viewed as the correct thing to do; people are more
likely to comply. Equality 7 2521 accepts this unfair job of street sweeper simply
because he trusts that his brothers will always have the best interest for the group
as a whole, and if it means he must accept this sacrifice he will. Growing up in a
society that is completely based around order and government control, it is very easy
for one to become dependent on government. From birth citizens are in The House of
the Infants, from there they are moved to House of the Students, and here they are
taught that thinking or doing anything for ones self is a sin. Through strict
controlling and order the people have learned to accept that the government knows
what is best entirely because they have never been exposed to anything besides this

Where Angels Fear to Tread, by E.M. Forster
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, is a saying is commonly used to emphasize
how ignorance can result in decisions that lead to unfavorable situations. Likewise, in
Where Angels Fear to Tread, Edward Morgan Forster uses irony, point of view, and
satire to effectively emphasize how stereotypes, prejudices, misunderstanding of
cultural differences, and hypocrisy could lead to unfavorable circumstances. Where
Angels Fear to Treadbegins as a light and comedic novel but later develops to
become more dense and tragic.
The novel starts off in a train station in England where a widow named Lilia
Herriton prepares to leave on a trip to the fictional Italian town of Monteriano. Her
mother in law, Mrs. Herriton, and her two children, ... Show more content on

Forster also uses satire to criticize the emphasis placed on class and cultural
differences by the Herritons and other citizens of Sawston, England. Mrs. Herriton,
after hearing of Lilia s engagement, sends Philip to break up the engagement, not
because she wanted to protect Lilia, but because she wanted to protect her own
social status which would be tarnished if Lilia were to marry an unemployed
foreigner. Forster also uses the story of the Italian saint, Santa Deodata to satirize the
behavior of the Herritons. Santa Deodata s story is shown in the following excerpt:
So holy was she that all her life she lay upon her back in the house of her mother,
refusing to eat, refusing to play, refusing to work. The devil, envious of such
sanctity, tempted her in various ways...When all proved vain, he tripped up the
mother and flung her downstairs before her very eyes. But so holy was the saint that
she never picked her mother up, but lay upon her back through all, and thus assured
her throne in Paradise. (Forster, 396)
This story of a girl who lacked concern for her mother is used to criticize the
Herritons and other English people lack love for their family and place social status
and formal convention over their own relatives.
The use of these literary devices in the novel was effective in placing emphasis on
the key
Reactance Window Drying
Reactance Window drying: Reactance Technology is a novel drying system. It uses
circulating water at atmospheric pressure as a means to carry thermal energy to
material to be dehydrated.[2] Infrared Zone Drying: It uses infrared energy applied
to a thin film of product in a series of zones. This allows product to be maintained at
a low temperatureto avoid damage while in its liquid state. DRYING
FUNDAMENTALS Drying involves the removal of moisture in thermal drying; this
is achieved by give the heatto the product. The heat increases the vapor pressure of
the moisture in the product above that of the surrounding air. Pressure and thermal
cause the moisture, liquid and vapor, to move to the surface of the product.
Evaporationtakes place and water vapor is transferred to the surrounding air. This
air may become saturated but the process of drying continues if this moist air is
replaced by less saturated air. In a crop there is a combination of free and bound
moisture. Free moisture is water that can move through the product in an unrestricted
way. Its movement is not dependent on the internal structure of the crop. The
vaporization evaporation process is at a maximum when there is sufficient free water
in the product to replace that evaporated at its surface. As this moisture is evaporated
the moisture content of the product falls and the product temperature is close to the
wet bulb temperature of the drying air. This period in the drying process is usually
known as
Why Semiotics Is A Useful Method For Analysing
Advertisements
Explain why semiotics is a useful method for analysing advertisements.
Straight away when thinking of signs one would automatically think road signs,
star signs or even pub signs however signs can also be drawings, paintings and
photographs as well as words, sounds and body language. The study of signs and
symbols is also known as semiotics. Ferdinand de Saussure was a Swiss linguist and
semiotic whose ideas laid a foundation for many significant developments; He is
one of the founding fathers of semiotics which he called semiology . Semiology
also looks into the use of signs and their interpretation. Semiotics are frequently
used in advertising to signify an advertisers message through the use of signs and
symbols for example it plays a significant role on catching the targets audiences eye
by the placement of pictures, texts and logos. The use of semiotics is very
important for a successful advert. Saussure offered a two part model of a sign, he
defined a sign being composed of two parts for example the signifier and the
signified. According to Saussure the signifier was the representation, the word or
the image, where as the signified was the meaning, the concept in which is
associated with the signifier. This is why semiotics is so useful in advertisements
because a sign straight away has a connotation behind it and can give away the
message straight away to its audience for example the signifier is always going to be
signified. In an advert if you see a packet of

Meaning Triangle Paper
This paper extends the Meaning Triangle (Sowa, 1997) and creates a broad research
framework called the Research Pyramid for positioning the current literature and
identifying new AIS research questions or ideas. The framework is comprised of four
constructs: objects, concepts, symbols, and AIS (component(s)) that are connected
along the pyramid s edges, referred to as primitive mapping. Descriptions of four
common researchmethodologies in this field are presented (design science, field
studies, surveys, and lab experiments) and accompany the placement of current
literature amongst the four framework constructs as an evaluative tool. Primitive
mapping is discussed amongst two construct, three construct, and four construct
combinations; emphasis is added that the mappings are bi directional and therefore
the approach taken to examine said relationship should encompass this. An approach
to mapping literature to the framework is provided along with steps to take in order
to potentially identify areas that have not been extensively covered by prior research.
The purpose of this paper is to create a rudimentary framework to expand future AIS
research opportunities by examining current literature patterns [topical and
methodological] based on broad constructs. In the beginning of the paper the authors
take on a broad definition of AIS. They recognize that AIS goes beyond financial
accounting systems and is based on the processing of transactions, providing
performance
Panopticon
The principle of the panopticon is simple: a central tower allows jailers to monitor,
without being seen, all the actions of the prisoners locked in cells in a ring
encircling the tower building. At the periphery there is a ring building; in the
center there is a turn; it is breakthrough large windows that open onto the inner face
of the ring; the peripheral building is divided into cells, each of which crosses the
entire the thickness of the building; they have two windows, one inwardly
corresponding to the tower windows; the other overlooking the outside, allows light
to pass through the cell from one side. By the effect against the light, one can enter
the tower, standing out exactly light, small captive silhouettes in the cells of the
peripheral series. There is so many cages, so many small theaters, in which each
detainee is alone, perfectly individualized and constantly visible. The advantage of a
panoptic device landscape spatial units is that we can be seen all the time and
recognized immediately. To summarize, we reverse the principle of the dungeon

  • 2. Old Testament Essay Old Testament Essay In the Beginning: At the beginning of the universe. God created heaven and earth in six days and rested on the seventh. During those six days God spoke to the darkness and created the world, brought forth light, created the sky, land and animals and plants to inhabit them. However, even during this creation he was contemplating the creation of a being made in his own image. He created man from dust and named him Adam, but Adam was lonely; so God took from Adam a rib. With Adam s rib God created a woman and called her Eve. Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden to live in harmony with God. The garden was a perfect utopia for Adam and Eve. However, evil soon entered the garden in the form of a serpent. One day when Eve was walking in the garden she encountered the evil serpent who encouraged her to take a fruit from one of God s forbidden fruit trees. The serpent succeeded in deceiving Eve to take a fruit; she then ate the fruit and shared it with Adam. Then God became angry with Adam and Eve for betraying Him. To punish Adam and Eve, he ejected them from the garden and subjecting them to mortality, painful childbirth, sin and shame. Now that Adam and Eve had entered into the world outside the garden they were left to fend for themselves. They had two sons Cain and Abel. Cain became a farmer and Able became a herdsman. They both offered God a sacrifice but Abel s sacrifice
  • 3. High Schools And School Schools Armed and Educated Columbine, Sandy Hook, and the UT Tower shooting are just a few examples of the terror parents, teachers, and students face today. More and more massacres and threats are affecting our schools on a daily basis. No one should fear to receive an education and certainly no parent should fear their child entering the doors of an elementary school. What can we do to prevent these tragedies from happening again? How can we strip the worry from the men, women and children involved in our educational systems at work today? The only options to putting an end to the untimely and unfair deaths of our teachers and students is tighter security, psych evaluations, and armed personnel. This means of security should not only be present in high schools or Jr. Highs, but should be present in all of our educational buildings, including colleges, elementary schools and child care centers. All of the places listed should be aware and willing to respond with any force necessary to protect their lives and the lives of others. More security cameras, attending at least one anti bullying program per school year, teachers need training to psychologically assess a troubled student, and armed teachers should all play a role in defending and keeping our schools safe. This is not taking our freedom but protecting our right to live and learn. Security cameras can be spotted in many places including stores, airports, gas stations, and school buildings. All of the surveillance equipment

  • 7. I Was Arrested For 11th Degree Criminal Trespassing On December , I was arrested for 3rd degree criminal trespassing. That day I was heading to go see my dad at the hospital. He had suffered his second stroke and doctors wanted to talk about what is possible for him since he was hooked on machines and unable to move or communicate in anyway for himself, i was also his power of attorney so i would speak for him. I was focused on nothing more than seeing my dad, but first i had to drop off my friend s shoes she had let me borrow. Along the way i saw a walmart and i had not eaten all day and thoughti could go in to get some snacks and a smoothie for my dad. I called my friend to come pick me up at the walmart instead and drive me to the hospital. She didn t live far so i thought by the time i came out the store she would have already been outside waiting for me, but that wasn t the case. My phone had died at that point so i had no way of calling her to let her know where i would be, so i decided to sit in front of the store where she could see me since the bench inside was taken by a woman and her kids. 5 minutes later an officer came asking me what i was doing there. I explained to him that i was waiting for a friend to come pick me up and that she ll be here soon. He said okay but then proceeded to ask me questions like how many times have I been arrested or how long i have been away from home or rather or not i bought the items in my bag. I didn t understand why he was asking me all of those questions and began to feel
  • 8. Essay about Comparing Hitler and Napoleon Comparing Hitler and Napoleon There were differences between Hitler and Napoleon, however I feel there were more similarities. They were both immigrants in the country they ended up ruling, both conquered most of Europe, both had radical views about fighting, and both were very quick in their fighting. However, the most significant similarities between the two leaders is how they were accepted as monarchs in a previously democratic society, and what they did for the countries after becoming monarchs. Hitler and Napoleon were accepted as monarchs for three major reasons. Both countries were hoping for the returning strength of the monarchy. The people of Germany and France were tired of inflation, and threats of invasion, and both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By eliminating the economic crisis in their countries and establishing a feeling of national security, they raised national pride and patriotism to amazing levels. Both men also had similar radical views about fighting. Both called for a fight to the death when enemy armies were approaching, and when their countries had exhausted all of their manpower, they both used children and teens in their fighting. Hitler used the Hitler youth, and Napoleon used the Marie Louises, who were only fifteen years old. However, the speed of their fighting may be the most amazing. Hitler, under his personal command and planning conquered all of Poland in only 24 days, and Napoleon conquered most of Austria and all of Sardinia in 9 days. They both followed these victories with even larger, faster victories. Hitler took over the Netherlands, Holland, Belgium and France in just 25 days, and Napoleon conquered Italy and more of Austria ;in less than one year. This may not sound so big, but Napoleon had only 30,000 soldiers to start with against over 100,000. Both men took much from the countries they conquered. They sent back bullion, art and other valuables. Both captured many soldiers and a large amount of supplies and weapons as well. Their tactics were described as lightening wars by their oppositions. Another, more interesting, similarity between Hitler and Napoleon was that they

  • 10. Writing Reflection Essay Writing is an activity which allows me to express thoughts I can not always verbalize. I enjoy writing, but typically need time to get my thoughts in order. The benefit to writing down my thoughts, as opposed to speaking them, is that I can edit and decide if my written words match my thoughts. In the following paragraphs, I will look at the class assignments and appraise them to determine what I have learned this semester. The first three topics we were assigned to write about were personal narrative, evaluation and argument. Our first assignment was to write a personal narrative, and I chose to write about what I have learned from my family. This was a fun paperto write, and I later shared it with my family. I enjoyed letting them know... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was more challenging than I thought it would be because initially, I wrote more of a justification than an evaluation. I could have chosen to rewrite this paper using an easier topic to evaluate, such as which airline is better or what is the best sport. However, I wanted to continue to evaluate my feelings about working in an animal shelter. Figuring out how to make this topic work as an evaluation would be a weakness, but I believe I turned it in to a strength by clarifying my thoughts and feelings about this job option. I m still not sure if I completed the assignment as it was intended. Nevertheless, I m pleased with the results, and I intend to use this paper as part of my cover letter when I apply for a job. The third assignment was an argument, and I enjoyed this topic the most. I chose to write about why I believe same sex marriage should be legal. I adamantly believe in the right and equality of marriage for every human, and it is obviously a contentious current event. I believe my strength in this assignment is my ability to state my beliefs in a rational and relevant way. My weakness in this paper was in citing the sources I used in my research. In the twenty years since I have been in college, I have rarely needed to write a paper which required me to recognize other authors or documents. Thus, I was not all sure about how to set
  • 11. Comparision Of Microscale Masses Of Hydrogen And Oxygen Abstract In this experiment, microscale quantities of hydrogen and oxygen were generated to test their explosive nature both separately and in mixtures of various proportions in order to identify the mixture with the most explosive energy, via a pop test that measured relative loudness, thus determining the optimal ratio for their combustion reaction to give water, and determine a mole ratio for the reaction in a balanced equation. Each gas mixture was then tested for power as fuel through the launching of a micro mole rocket. The gases were produced via two separate generators which isolated a chemical reaction to either produce oxygen or hydrogen gas, the reactions included the single replacement reaction reaction of zinc and hydrochloric acid to generate hydrogen gas, and the yeast catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to generate oxygen gas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gas collection bulbs were filled with different proportions of each gas, proportional to the number of moles of gas present, and were tested for relative loudness, which represented power/ explosive energy via a pop test in which a match was struck near the bulb. The loudness was measured via a scale in which the most explosive mixture was given a ten and the least explosive given a zero. The ratios were tested for their ability to launch the bulb a distance during a rocket launch in which the bulb rocket was placed on a launch pad and ignited by a piezo sparker. Both dependent variables, distance and loudness represented overall explosion energy and were used to indicate which of the ratios represented the optimum ratio of hydrogen and oxygen to give water in a combustion reaction. To be considered valid, the amount of error in each data point must have fallen into the range of average deviation of the measurements. Data was error prone for relative loudness was measured based on blind perception of a

Muir referred to this valley to Yosemite Valley because of its glamorous views. The name of this valley is derived from Miwok word hatchhatchie, meaning edible grass (tchistory). Hetchy Hetch was used shortly after as a reservoir and water system for the Bay Area. Hetch Hetchy Valley is located in the Yosemite National Park of California. Water from Hetch Hetchy was delivered through the damming of the Tuolumne River at around 3,800 feet elevation; it travels through complex tunnels through the Sierra Nevada. The Hetch Hetchy Valley presents two of the tallest waterfalls in North America. This valley is also a place where visitors can witness the beautiful wildlife and water... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even then, the proposal was rejected for a few years. At the time, San Francisco received water support from Lake Eleanor, but both the lake and the valley was demanded. There was much criticism to set up this dam by many conservatives and Muir himself. The proposal finally passed in 1913 even after much opposition from all over the country. This Hetch Hetchy project began and the O Shaughnessy Dam was built. The construction of this dam cost $100 million and 68 lives. This dam streamed water over 160 miles to reach the Bay Area. This project was further improved in 1928 when San Francisco voters approved of the $24 million payment, which was completed in 1934. San Francisco voters decided to give the Hetch Hetchy project another improvement in 1947; $25 million was invested for a second pipeline from the reservoir. In 1961, over $100 million in bonds was used to develop and expand the project. In 1970, the Sierra Club wanted the restoration of the valley and the removing of reservoirs from both Eleanor Dam and O Shaughnessy Dam. The concept of hospitality in the literary works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects with their religious beliefs. Hook Up Culture The hook up , a developing phenomenon that has been rapidly growing in adolescents and young adults in the western world for the last decade, which has resulted in a cultural dating shift, an escalation of drugs and alcohol abuse, as well as emotional and physical consequences (). The term hook up is known as brief uncommitted sexual between two individuals who are not romantically involved but consensually indulge in sexual activities including kissing, oral sex, penetrative intercourse (Garcia 2012). Alcohol use, even intoxication is a dominant contributor to the recent hook up culture (Flack et al. 2007) and definitely a motivator to engage in intercourse during a hook up. Women report consuming a median of four drinks prior to hooking up, while men report a median of six drinks (England et al. 2008). Being under the influence in a social setting acts as a lubricant and helps people overcome their inhibitions and anxieties on a social and sexual level. The simple act of approaching or conversing with a person you are attracted to can be extremely nerve wracking, but with the attack of alcohol on the nervous system it is easier for people to talk and eventually express their sexual desires because they stop worrying about rejection and judgements. Once individuals surpass these fears it easy to pursue what they want and desire, so if man sees a girl in a bar he is interested, is a few drinks deep he more often than not will have no problem approaching in her hopes that he can take her hope and engage in sexual activity. Sadly this effects our ability to form genuine connections with people as most of these hook ups will not normally result in a romantic relationship later down the road, but rather just more casual sex contributing and building to the hook up culture that we know

An Analysis of Looking for Alaska by John Green Looking for Alaska is a book about a boy named Miles that goes away to a private school called Culver Creek were he meets a group of friends that he starts to hang out with throughout the year. He becomes very good friends with everyone and they begin to let him in on their secret spot called the smoking hole , where they all smoke their cigarettes without getting in trouble. Soon he starts to get a crush on a girl named Alaska, which seems to already have a boyfriend. As soon as Miles starts to fall in lovewith her a horrible thing happens. Alaska dies in a terrible car accident, which turns into a very mysterious and confusing death. When Miles and the other boys get the news, they start fighting to find out the truth on what really happened. After reading this novel, one is left with the question, How will we ever get out of this labyrinth of suffering? Over the course of the novel, Green s characters set out to answer this problem. While the problem is catalyzed by Alaska, she doesn t answer the question alone. Indeed, after her death (accident? suicide?), Pudge and the Colonel are left alone to try and answer the question for themselves. However, before Alaska goes, she does leave some clues as to what she believes the labyrinth is, and how she thinks you have to escape. It s not life or death, the labyrinth [said Alaska]. Um, okay. So what is it? [said Pudge]. Suffering, she said. Doing wrong and having wrong things happen to you. That s the problem.
  • 33. Anaerobic Respiration Rate By Co2 The influence of CO2 depends on CO2 concentration, time of exposure, type and stage of maturity of the product (Fonseca et al., 2002). Elevated levels of CO2 cause reduction in respiration rate, however, concentrations of 20% CO2 leads to significant increase in anaerobic respiration (i.e. ethanol and acetaldehyde production), and irreversibly damages the tissues. Similar to decreased O2 level, increased CO2 concentration also inhibits the decarboxylation reactions of normal respiratory process causing it to shift to the anaerobic pathway (Kader and Saltveit, 2002. Variable patterns of respiration were observed among different commodities. Pal and Buescher (1993) reported decrease in respiration rate at 10% CO2 and increase at 30% CO2. The idea of respiratory inhibition by CO2 was first supported by simple explanations, i.e., that CO2 was a product of the respiration process and, caused simple feedback inhibition (Herner, 1987; Wolfe, 1980).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another theory postulated that CO2 has the strong influence on mitochondrial activity including succinate and citrate oxidation. Some anticipated the inhibition of C2H4 production rather than the direct effect on respiration, which was supported by a study conducted by Kubo et al. Some fruits and vegetables (e.g. lettuce) are sensitive to high levels of CO2 and result in CO2 injury when exposed to the levels above its tolerance limit (Kader, et al., 1989; Ke and Saltveit, 1989). The general schematic representation of effect of CO2 and O2 concentrations on the aerobic and anaerobic respiration rate is presented in figure

Summary Of War Is Kind By Stephen Crane In War is Kind , Stephen Crane used an experienced military officer tasked with giving death notifications as well as commanding soldiers on the battlefield to reveal his disillusion and contempt with war by conveying sympathy for the people left behind, the shock of perception versus reality, the overall futility of war itself, dehumanization of soldiers, and the power of war to take and destroy. Crane manipulates his readers to feel sympathy for his characters through diction, alliteration, and onomatopoeia which create tone. In stanzas one, three, and five, the speaker is tasked with giving a death notification to women who lost important men in their life. He uses the terms maiden , babe , and mother to describe the women and give them some humanity as well as a connection to the fallen men (Crane 1, 12, 23). These descriptors imply that these women were important to the men they lost and the men were important to them. Mother , specifically implies this woman lost a son and provider for not just herself but her family (Crane 23). Readers are also supposed to feel sympathy for the maiden who was left to live out the rest of her days with unfulfilled love (Crane 1). Compared to other synonyms, maiden is the most innocent sounding invoking the readers to feel more sympathy for the girl. • 49. Reactance Window Drying Reactance Window drying: Reactance Technology is a novel drying system. It uses circulating water at atmospheric pressure as a means to carry thermal energy to material to be dehydrated.[2] Infrared Zone Drying: It uses infrared energy applied to a thin film of product in a series of zones. This allows product to be maintained at a low temperatureto avoid damage while in its liquid state. DRYING FUNDAMENTALS Drying involves the removal of moisture in thermal drying; this is achieved by give the heatto the product. The heat increases the vapor pressure of the moisture in the product above that of the surrounding air. Pressure and thermal cause the moisture, liquid and vapor, to move to the surface of the product. Evaporationtakes place and water vapor is transferred to the surrounding air. This air may become saturated but the process of drying continues if this moist air is replaced by less saturated air. In a crop there is a combination of free and bound moisture. Free moisture is water that can move through the product in an unrestricted way. Its movement is not dependent on the internal structure of the crop. The vaporization evaporation process is at a maximum when there is sufficient free water in the product to replace that evaporated at its surface. As this moisture is evaporated the moisture content of the product falls and the product temperature is close to the wet bulb temperature of the drying air. This period in the drying process is usually known as

Semiotics are frequently used in advertising to signify an advertisers message through the use of signs and symbols for example it plays a significant role on catching the targets audiences eye by the placement of pictures, texts and logos. The use of semiotics is very important for a successful advert. Saussure offered a two part model of a sign, he defined a sign being composed of two parts for example the signifier and the signified. According to Saussure the signifier was the representation, the word or the image, where as the signified was the meaning, the concept in which is associated with the signifier. This is why semiotics is so useful in advertisements because a sign straight away has a connotation behind it and can give away the message straight away to its audience for example the signifier is always going to be signified. In an advert if you see a packet of

  • 53. Meaning Triangle Paper This paper extends the Meaning Triangle (Sowa, 1997) and creates a broad research framework called the Research Pyramid for positioning the current literature and identifying new AIS research questions or ideas. The framework is comprised of four constructs: objects, concepts, symbols, and AIS (component(s)) that are connected along the pyramid s edges, referred to as primitive mapping. Descriptions of four common researchmethodologies in this field are presented (design science, field studies, surveys, and lab experiments) and accompany the placement of current literature amongst the four framework constructs as an evaluative tool. Primitive mapping is discussed amongst two construct, three construct, and four construct combinations; emphasis is added that the mappings are bi directional and therefore the approach taken to examine said relationship should encompass this. An approach to mapping literature to the framework is provided along with steps to take in order to potentially identify areas that have not been extensively covered by prior research. The purpose of this paper is to create a rudimentary framework to expand future AIS research opportunities by examining current literature patterns [topical and methodological] based on broad constructs. In the beginning of the paper the authors take on a broad definition of AIS. They recognize that AIS goes beyond financial accounting systems and is based on the processing of transactions, providing performance

Panopticon The principle of the panopticon is simple: a central tower allows jailers to monitor, without being seen, all the actions of the prisoners locked in cells in a ring encircling the tower building. At the periphery there is a ring building; in the center there is a turn; it is breakthrough large windows that open onto the inner face of the ring; the peripheral building is divided into cells, each of which crosses the entire the thickness of the building; they have two windows, one inwardly corresponding to the tower windows; the other overlooking the outside, allows light to pass through the cell from one side. By the effect against the light, one can enter the tower, standing out exactly light, small captive silhouettes in the cells of the peripheral series. There is so many cages, so many small theaters, in which each detainee is alone, perfectly individualized and constantly visible. The advantage of a panoptic device landscape spatial units is that we can be seen all the time and recognized immediately. To summarize, we reverse the principle of the dungeon /solitary confinement; or rather of its three functions lock, exclude light and hide it keeps only the...
