Emmett Till Essay. Emmett till and the civil rights movement essay
1. Emmett Till Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of Emmett Till is no easy task, as it involves delving into a
profoundly sensitive and historically significant subject. Emmett Till's tragic story, marked by
racial injustice and violence, demands a careful and nuanced approach to capture the gravity of
the events surrounding his life and death.
The difficulty arises not only from the emotional weight of the topic but also from the
responsibility to convey the historical context accurately. Understanding the social and political
climate of the time, the implications of Emmett Till's murder, and its impact on the Civil Rights
Movement requires extensive research and critical analysis.
Addressing the complexities of racial prejudice, the legal system's failures, and the broader
societal implications demands a delicate balance between empathy and objectivity. The essay
should navigate through the layers of emotion, providing a comprehensive exploration while
remaining respectful to the memory of Emmett Till and those affected by his tragedy.
Furthermore, crafting a compelling thesis that not only encapsulates the essence of the essay but
also contributes to the ongoing discourse on racial justice adds an additional layer of challenge.
This topic demands a well-reasoned and thought-provoking argument that goes beyond simple
narration.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the Emmett Till case is a formidable undertaking, requiring
careful research, emotional intelligence, and the ability to articulate a meaningful perspective.
However, by approaching the subject with sensitivity and scholarly rigor, one can contribute to a
deeper understanding of a pivotal moment in history.

If you were to ask those around me about my desire to be a physician, they would
be able to tell you that I work extremely hard trying to find ways to strengthen my

a medical assistant, where I get to room patients, perform point of care tasks, and
also shadow providers. While shadowing, I get to see tasks such as starting an IV,

6. Essay on Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko In recent years, Hollywood has specialised in churning out mainstream
trash; generic fodder not even fit for the cutting room floor. Yet despite these movies
shortcomings, they continue to enjoy success at the box office. Sequel upon sequel,
photo fit remake upon photo fit remake, frequently taking the box office by storm
whilst simultaneously relegating smaller independent projects to the now relatively
unheard of arthouse cinemas. The tragedy is that the independent filmmakers are
often those with the most talent; the most creativity; the most flair. One such
filmmaker is director Richard... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, each frame speaks to us on more profound terms than the majority of
arthouse films would claim to do. This is, in part, due to the impeccable
performances by each and every member of the cast. Jake Gyllenhaal, a relative
unknown, delivers a subtle yet emotionally charged performance as Donnie himself
the scene in which he tells his psychologist of his various childhood traumas is
made both funny and moving by the haunting way in which Jake delivers each line,
contrasted with the almost childish qualities of his movements on the couch. Most
incredible of all, however, is his terrifying screen presence as he trudges slowly
through a deserted corridor or along a dark street, head tilted slightly forward, face
fixed in a confused, bewildered expression. Drew Barrymore is also superb as the
liberal high school teacher rejected and scorned in a Conservative education system,
while Patrick Swayze is excellent in his extended cameo, a smartly observed satire
of a self help guru with a few skeletons in the closet.
Where the movie comes into its own, however, is in its ability to incorporate and
deal with a variety of genres. Every movie genre seems to make an appearance, so
much so that to categorise the movie as simply a psychological horror or a
supernatural thriller would be an unforgivable insult. Even

12. The Minister’s Black Veil Essay
The Minister s Black Veil
The story The Minister s Black Veil is symbolic of the hidden sins that we hide and
separate ourselves from the ones we love most. In wearing the veil Hooper presents
the isolation that everybody experiences when they are chained down by their own
sins. He has realized that everybody symbolically can be found in the shadow of
their own veil. By Hooper wearing this shroud across his face is only showing the
dark side of people and the truth of human existence and nature. Hooper left the dark
shroud on because he has realized that secret sin is a veil that can never be lifted
from anybody until the day of their death. In a quote from the story Mr. Hooper says,

was done or thought. Because of the minister s promise he was forced into a lonely
personal life.
In the minutes before Hooper died, he requested that the veil never be removed. This
wish would be his last. Though in lifting the veil I think the sorrowers wouldn t find
anything then a normal human being. Lifting the veil wouldn t resolve any of the of
the feelings that overcame parishioners. Until then the secret sin would act as a
separation between people and God.
The quote, The eyes are window to your soul, has an important effect about my

feared. In reality Mr. Hooper didn t change at all. He was the same kind and gentle

Main Tasks: To accomplish the objective of the project, field experiments, as the
best references for future development, are required in conjugation with analytical
and numerical investigations. In Figure 1 a general perspective of the research is
illustrated. The whole project will be executed in three main tasks which are
described as follows:
Task 1. Data Collection and Analysis: The first task to accomplish the goals of the
project is to collect high quality data that consist of the wind velocity field and
profile, wind turbine s dynamic responses and the power production. Due to the wind
velocity fluctuation or high intensity turbulence which is an important characteristic
of the wind in atmospheric boundary layer, the rotor and the tower of a wind turbine
normally experience extensive fluctuating dynamic loads. Because of the randomness
nature of these fluctuations, limitations in numerical simulations and scale related
issues in laboratory tests, field wind data collection is super beneficial for scientific
evolution of wind turbines. During the last years, a high quality remote system is

18. The Revolution Of The Revolutionary Revolution
Hunter Sharp Mon/Wed 2:15 Final Paper There have been revolutions which were
dominated by important personalities, creating personalist regimes. Revolutionary
leaders including Napoleon Bonaparte, Vladimir Lenin, and Fidel Castro have
been both an embodiment of revolutionary ideas and an antithesis to many of the
original ideals of their respective revolutions. Napoleon Bonaparte During the
French Revolution, the poor and oppressed majority are fighting to get a place in
society, and get natural rights regardless of their social class. Napoleon rapidly
rose through the ranks of the military and emerges as a leader then Napoleon gains
power and becomes an antithesis to the original ideals of the revolution. Some of
the laws, orders, and the Napoleonic Code created when Napoleon was emperor of
France shows that he did become an antithesis to many of the original ideals of the
revolution. Although Napoleon did give the oppressed French some rights, he still
went against the original idea of the French Revolution which was to give every
Frenchmen their natural rights regardless of their social class or gender.
According to the Napoleonic code divorce was made a little easier for women, but
they still did not have rights. Girls were also not allowed to go to school, while
boys were allowed. Napoleon censored the press from releasing negative articles
about him which violated freedom of the press. Napoleon further became an
antithesis when he forced Germans to go into the French

The folder would be set up as last name, first name, and middle initial if it is
applicable. Patients with the same last and first name will be differentiate by the
date of birth. For example, Gonzalez, Jaxon DOB 10/06/87 and Gonzalez, Jaxon
DOB 12/07/62. For those patients that have multiple DOAs (Date of accident),
within the folder, I would subdivide the folder with the specific DOA. That way
when scanning the document it goes into the specific DOA folder and it does not
get mix up with the other DOAs. For instance, let s say Gonzalez, Jaxon DOB 10
/06/87 has multiple DOAs, the subfolder would look like this: DOA 7/10/13, DOA
4/06/14, and DOA 10/24/15. Having the middle name initial is also important to
tell the difference between same named patients. I would also correct the
misspelled names by cross reference the patients spelling of the name with the
demographics/C 1 form to make sure the spelling is correct. If it is not correct than
I would edit the folder. For example, the folder is named Jaxson Gonzalez, but in the
demographic it says Jaxon Gonzalez; so I would change the folder name to the correct
21. Call Me Maybe Meaning
The music video Call me Maybe seems very typical when listening to the lyrics but
has a quirky uniqueness to it that could impact pop culture forever. Although the
text seems quite typical, consisting of an attractive looking male and female in
today s society crushing on each other; it has a unique twist to it. It challenges
hegemony by the girl, which is Carly being the one to hit on her neighbor instead
of the guy chasing after the girl like in most media such as movies like The
Notebook . Not only that but Carly puts herself out there sexually without doing
anything too sexual. She also tires to give her number to her male neighbor whom
is Chad; it usually would be the other way around being the man tends to have the
power over the woman. Another way this music video is unique is because it
shows different views of sexuality. It shows the neighbor giving his number to
Carly s band member that is a man and asking him to call him, which challenges
traditional norms. Call Me Maybe being unique in most areas of pop culture has

is dim and looks as though no one has been here for months. They walk further into
the house and begin to see spots of blood on the floor. They follow this trail down
the stairs into the basement where the smell becomes overwhelming, causing some
of the officers to gasp and run back up the stairs. In the basement, they find the
remains of several young boys who have been molested and badly mutilated. What
could cause someone to participate in such horrendous deeds? What sort of person
is able to perform such wicked acts? Serial killers always have aroused the curiosity
and concern of the public. People seem to be both fascinated and repulsed by... Show

The second key characteristic of most serial killers is an overwhelming need for
control. Women and children are often targeted because they are seen as weak and
easily dominated figures. Killers will tie their victims up with ropes or chains and
watch them helplessly struggle to free themselves. They may also torture them
and watch as their pleas for freedom fall upon deaf ears. Many killers are demented
and exhibit signs of future violence at a very early age. Society often turns to the
upbringing of the killer for answers. Many killers speak of their childhoods being
full of sexual abuse, torture, and mayhem (Scott). In his book Serial Killers, Joel
Norris speaks of violence as something that cycles from generation to generation:
Parents who abuse their children, physically as well as psychologically, instill in
them an almost instinctive reliance upon violence as a first resort to any challenge.
Childhood abuse not only spawns violent reactions, but also affects the child s
health, including brain injuries, malnutrition, and other developmental disorders (49
50). Violence early in life may lead to these undesirable tendencies to abuse and kill.
Parents often believe that strict discipline will help the individual grow up to be
strong, but it, in turn, creates a gap between the child and the parents. The child does
not feel loved or wanted. This may

Need of the Program
The need in Nashua School District
Our future history will be more determined by our relationship with China than by
our relationship with Europe. This was a prediction from President Theodore
Roosevelt more than a hundred years ago. This prediction has become a reality
because China has the world s largest population, the second largest economy, and a
rising military power.
The rise of China calls for programs to expose our young generation and their
teachers to cross cultural experiences, engage with their peers in dialogues, and full

Nashua School District China Initiatives
Recently requests to expand our current China program initiative and to form
partnership with different entities in China were brought to our attention. Since then,
we have met with different stake holders and discussed the feasibility, pros and cons
of expanding the Nashua School District China Initiatives.
This proposal captures the history, current opportunities with China, directions of the
initiatives and organizational capacity for such program for the Nashua School Board
of Education to approve.
Through the initiatives, we are seeking collaborations with Chinese educational
entities to create learning opportunities and programs that will enrich the academic
and extracurricular lives of our students, faculties, and administrators in Nashua
District. The goal of such programs are to further equip our faculties and students
with global awareness and cross cultural skills, which will lead to abundant growth
opportunities both professionally and personally. We believe the China initiatives will
create a solution that will not only benefit the district financially but also the societies

September 11, 2001. This is a day that will forever be ingrained on the hearts of the
American people. The Twin Towers, icons of New York City, were struck by two
recreational airplanes that morning as a terrorist attack on America. Later, the
Pentagon was also attacked by a plane and another plane crashed in a field in
Pennsylvania. Three thousand people perished in all of the attacks combined and
many had not been found (History). The first plane had struck the eightieth floor of
the building and trapped the people in the higher floors in the building. At 10:30, the
towers collapsed and killed the people who had not been able to escape the building

The towers were engulfed in flames and smoke billowed out and cast a cover of

second plane into the south tower was watched by the entire country at 9:03 am
(CNN) . We were watching it on the TV and then we heard the explosion , Pat said.
The rest of the country was watching everything religiously, looking for any news
on loved ones or any information as to what was happening. The news was on all
day, everyday replaying the planes hitting the buildings and the collapse of the
buildings. At 9:43 am, the third plane had crashed into the Pentagon, right into the

could see was smoke rolling up , Pat said as he remembered the sight of the crash.
It looked like a scene from a nightmare. Flames shot out of the demolished building,
screams of people that was echoed across the city, and smoke rolled across the sky
like a thunderstorm.
No one had seen the attacks coming, nor expected anything like this could happen.
It was unprecedented in America. America was too strong and too secure for
people to expect something like this to happen, so the attack left the majority of
people in shock and fear. For Pat, the attacks were a threat to the country he had
fought so hard to protect. Pat said, I went into military mode after it happened and I

25. Spotlight Reflection
Recently in Journalism class, we watched the movie titled Spotlight which was
based on the story of the 87 priest molestation cases that occurred in Boston alone.
This movie followed a team of Journalists, the Spotlight Team, who worked for the
Boston Globe. This team tracked down 87 molester priests and cultivated a story to
bring attention to the issue. While there were a lot of important concepts highlighted
in this movie, the three main concepts of the film were on why this issue has been
happening for such an exaggerated period of time, preposterous events can occur in
the most unexpected places and that vulnerable people are effortlessly taken
advantage of. The world let these incidents go on for too long. For years, the priests
not just in these Boston churches, but around the globe had been performing
inappropriate acts on powerless children in their churches. It was even made known
that these churches were fully aware of these events and masked the truth from their
communities. The church essentially wanted so desperately to believe that it was a
minor flaw in the system. In reality, it was happening in an exuberant amount of
religious areas. It is partially based on the statement that no one wants to cuff a priest
because they feel that in a way, it would make them look atrocious.
To keep muted on these events, people were put under restraint by their own family
and friends. They were told not to speak out about their molestation cases. The belief

went one step beyond thinking about it and attempted. He just couldn t pull the

reason I think this is because his mother s license plate was EMC2 and she made

Equity: the quality of being fair or impartial. In a situation of equity, all parties are
equally benefited and equally disadvantaged. There is a symmetrical balance of
power. But can there be equal power, and have the notion of power still exist?
Because of that, there is a dynamic of asymmetrical power. The system is designed to
favor and continually promote the ideology and control of the dominant group. And it
s never questioned. Though accepted by the masses, the asymmetry of power has
caused countless struggles, wars, and even an entire breakdown of that system. At
some point, the nondominant group gathers and rises to confront the dominant group,
upsetting the balance and challenging the dominant group s authority. When that

28. The Benefits Of Radio Frequency Identification
RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is becoming the new technology through
which data can automatically be collected and transferred, along with the capability
of tracking assets such as inventory, machinery, or even people. RFID readers collect,
store, and relay important data to other application systems, and receives this
information from RFIDtags. The two types of RFID tags are active and passive.
Active RFIDs use power and can broadcast signals to the RFID readers, while
passive RFIDs are powerless and only communicate with the reader when within a
specified distance. Passive RFID s are typically used to identify things, whether it be
patients at a hospital, drug authentication, inventory, etc; they are very similar to
barcodes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patient identification with the use of wristbands containing identity, medical history,
and insurance information have been implemented in the University College Hospital
in Galway, Ireland. Other applications still pending are RFID use as sensors for
temperature and chemical sensing to protect hospital blood supply, and use as alerts
or triggers to protect patients dangerous or emergencies during surgeries.
Hospitals are finding all kinds of uses for RFID systems in order to improve safety
and save money long term. Many of these same uses can be applied elsewhere as
well. For our senior project, RFIDs will be put to use in a very similar way as
hospitals have started to do so. We plan to use active and passive RFID tags, in
addition to RFID readers, all connected to a main database, in order to essentially
create zones on drilling or production rigs that allow only designated personnel. In
order to do so, active RFIDs will be placed on IDs given to all working personnel
while RFID readers will be set up at selective zones on the rig, so that sensors may
be used to alarm the individual or staff that he or she is in a restricted area for their
level of clearance. Other passive RFID tags will be placed in equidistant locations in
each zone so that their interaction with the active

The Use of Birth Control to Prevent Pregnancy
The dilemma of unwanted pregnancy has faced the human species as far back in
history as the day man found out that there was a connection between sexual
intercourse and conceiving a baby. To solve it, many methods were used some
disagreeable, some dangerous and many ineffective. Fortunately, today for the first
time in history, a choice of contraceptives is available that is, safe, convenient, and
effective. Much difference of opinion about the moral correctness of sex without the
possibility of becoming pregnant, surrounds this subject. Since the Middle Ages,
much of religious thinking has held that the only proper reason for sexual intercourse
was procreation. Thus, anything that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

therefore greatly reduce the number of abortions each year. Birth control can
improve marital relations, maternal and child health and family welfare. Not
everyone today is capable of supporting three or four children. Therefore why not
limit the number of children you have and better support your family? There is also
the factor of overpopulation. Many who favor birth control feel that limiting family

almost the same functionality than a custom developed solution by David Mayer.
Although, it has one major disadvantage such as the JCSS became more depended on
DSI that could go out of business.
Personally, I noticed that Carol Andrews had a great start with going through the

Specifically, she started with thorough feasibility that assessed economical, technical,

accurate specifications about the system input and output, and performance
requirements. Everything was detailed. She created a list of packages and established
evaluation criteria. Once the RFP was written, it was distributed to various vendors.
When description of software and packages was submitted back by the vendors, the
committee used the point system to evaluate the vendors by functional capabilities,

Growing up in Miami I have gotten accustomed to the cold and impersonal
interactions attributed to living in a big city. Although I enjoy all of the
opportunities that are presented by metropolitan areas, it disheartens me to know
that most people in urban settings do not know their neighbors. Via avian
perspective, you can see the large scale segregation of classes and ethnic groups.
Little Havana, Little Haiti, and Little Puerto Rico are just some examples of the
neighborhoods I have called home. As a multiracial child, I found it difficult to fit
in when the typical icebreaker question was Where are you from? Me? I would ask.
Knowing there was a narrow range of accepted responses I replied, I am from here
from Earth... but more importantly, where am I going? It seems a natural human
characteristic to assign greater importance to our past experiences than to our
aspirations for the future. In order to achieve what I want with my life I know that I
must not dwell on the past but focus on the future.
It is human nature to question our reality in an attempt to better understand our
surroundings. Science, for me, is the devotion to better understand the world we live
in, rooted in the natural and inevitable questions that all humans ask themselves. I
believe that by answering the most fundamental questions, the potential technological
advancements are much greater than that generated by applied engineering.

analysis of 8700 patients of the German Trauma Registry in 2006, 34% were overtly
coagulopathic at the time of presentation; the degree of derangement was
proportional to the degree of prior crystalloid resuscitation4. Specifically, 10% of
patients were coagulopathic after receiving 500 mL or less of crystalloid, which has
been shown to be a product of both acute trauma response and factor dilution4. In
trauma, abnormal coagulation panels at the time of presentation are associated with a
3 fold increase in mortality. Specifically, patients presenting with INR 1.5 have a
mortality of 30% compared to 5% in those with normal INR4. Further research shows
that factor depleted infusions potentiate coagulopathy of trauma5.

45. Murder In The Media
The way the media sensationalizes murder has changed greatly since the death of
Queen Victoria in the early 20th century. However, the public s fascination with
murder is still as strong as ever. The infamous cases and trials of Case Anthony, OJ
Simpson, and Amanda Knox captivated a world and resulted in the commercial
appeal of true crime. The commercialization of what society openly proclaims as
criminal begs for a curtail question to be asked. What makes this Victorian cultural
trait thrive in today society while other culture traits died out? Television and the
internet are two technological advances that have sustained the public s fascination
with murder. Both of these sources allow for a shift from a written format to visual
display. Unlike the pre Victorian pastime of murder sightseeing and the Victorian
written format, television and the internet allow a merge of the tow to accrue. A
person can see the brutality of murder but still stay distanced at the same time, adding
in it appeal. Understanding why modern cultural embraces Storys of true crime is
crucial in understanding why the Victorians did the same. Scott Boons a professor of

Emergency period media
In June, 1975, Indira Gandhi s government declared a state of emergency and
suspended civil liberties. Immediately after this declaration, the government tightened
its controls on the Indian mass media, especially o n the newspapers which had
reputations of being free and lively. During the Summer of 1975, as Indira Gandhi
became increasingly more threatened by the mounting criticisms of her government,
she declared a state of emergency. Immediately she took control of the press,
prohibiting their reporting of all domestic and international news. The government
expelled several foreign correspondents
(mainly American and British) and withdrew accreditation from more than 40 Indian

H e urged the editors t o express their ideas fearlessly: However, Indira Gandhi s call
made editors suppress their best thoughts, and for the Indian mass media, freedom
became a matter of history. Like other dictators in history, Indira Gandhi s first
attempt was t o impose thought control o n the populous. F o r her, this was t o be
effectuated not merely by controlling the Indian mass media but also by moulding
the media t o her own purpose. It has now becomea well known fact that during the
emergency Indira Gandhi had a firm grip
on the Indian mass media. This was especially true since radio and television in India
are government owned and operated; for Indira, there was the simple matter of
controlling the newspapers in order to achieve a total control of the mass media. She
used at least three methods in manipulating the newspapers: (1) allocation of
government advertising; (2) shotgun merger of the newsagencies;and
(3) use of fear arousal techniques on newspaper publishers, journalists and individual
shareholders.
The Indian newspapers depend a great deal on governmental advertising; without
such revenues, it would be difficult for many
Indian newspapers to stay in business. Unfortunately, this has kept many ofthem
vulnerable togovernment manipulation. The large scale possibility of such
manipulation, however, was not fully demonstra ted until Indira Gandhi s
government decided to take advantage of this unique
47. Negligence Is An Important Part Of Tort
Study on Negligence
1.0Introduction
Negligence can be defined as lack of proper care or attention (Ludowyk, Moore,
2006). Negligence is an important part of tort. A tort is defined as a civil wrong
(other than a breach of contract) in the form of a breach of duty for which the legal
remedy is an award of damages. Negligence is that a reasonable person doing
something which may cause damage.
The purpose of this essay is to understand the three essentials of negligence. In order
to fully understand the three essentials, this essay shows some details about the three
essentials. In addition, this essay fully analyses the novus actus interveniens.
2.0 Background
When the plaintiff wants to prove the defendant owed by negligence, he or ... Show

3.1 Reasonable foreseeability
If the plaintiff s injury was not a reasonable foreseeable, the defendant did not have
a duty of care. In the case Tame v New South Wales (2002) 211 CLR 317, the
plaintiff had been in a traffic accident. She was tested and returned a zero blood
alcohol level.
However, the police officer recorded as 0.14 by mistake. Later, it was correct. In
addition, the plaintiff s lawyer told her the truth and it would not affect her
insurance. Then the plaintiff was obsessed and had a mental problem. In this case,
the plaintiff s mental problem is not a reasonable foreseeable injury. Therefore, the
police officer had not been under a duty of care and the state was not liable.
3.2 Recognised duties of care
The way to recognise duties of care is to find if there is a law regarding relationship
between the plaintiff and the defendant (Pentony, 2013). For example, the teacher is
under a general duty of care to provide students a safe environment to study, or the
manufactures need to provide a higher quality good to customers.
3.3 Neighbourhood factors
If the case is not in an established category, the Court may look at the important
characteristics of this case to establish an existent neighbourhood relationship to
justify a duty of care. In order to establish it, the Court needs to consider the plaintiff
s weakness in the matter, whether the plaintiff relays on the
48. Being Danny s Best Man
Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. For those of you that don t know me, my
name s Tyler, and I ve had the privilege of being Danny s best man. I hope you ve
all enjoyed the day so far, and I think you ll all agree... at the church today the bride
looked absolutely stunning! Firstly a few thank yous I have been asked to make.
Firstly, to all who have helped in the service, and this lovely party. Whether you
have brought food, or helped decorate this place, or just come to support the happy
couple, thank you. Secondly to the bridesmaids, you have done a magnificent job
helping the bride today, and you all look amazing, so a big thanks to you too.
Finally Tom would like me to thank his beautiful new wife for turning up today. I
saw him this morning when he was worrying, and it wasn t a pretty sight. He has
asked me to tell you how happy you have made him by becoming his wife,
something that I am sure he will go into in more detail in his speech, but still,
thank you. When Danny asked me to be his best man, part of me was honored, part
of me was terrified, but mostly I was laughing that he s finally admitting what we ve
known all along, that I am, in fact, better than him. Having never been a best man
before, I had to spend several hours surfing the Internet to try and find out exactly
what my duties would be. So apparently the most important thing I had to do was
make sure Danny got to the church on time, looking presentable, clean cut and sober.

The Controversy of Abuse in Scientology
There has never been a religion more controversial or widely debated as Scientology.
In part, this image has been supported over the decades through the indirect
machinations of Scientologists themselves; their desire to prevent media attention
has seemingly garnered more scrutiny, and their interest in seclusion only furthers the
idea of cultic secrecy. These examples are heightened as allegations by defectors and
court scandals arise. Though Scientology is a relatively new religion, due to an
extensive public rumor mill, it has managed to cause more commotion than have
many other much older religions. One of the most fascinating controversies ... Show

As stated earlier, the RPF has committed physical and strenuous harm against its
members. Furthermore, eye witness accounts have placed Scientologists as
engaging in direct violence. Chris and Christie Collbran recall times in which sea
org members were repeatedly beaten...by David Miscavige (Goodstein 1), as well
as forced to have abortions and work with little sleep. Chris Collbran also
remembers an instance where an official hit a member. He later emulated this
behavior by violently pushing a 17 year old follower against the wall. Christie
describes being consumed by fear, going so far as to wait until the third trimester
to tell Sea Org officials of her pregnancy, just so she could leave the church without
being excommunicated. In other cases, women have often cited being forced to
have an abortion, something Christie corroborates as she states she had known
women who were removed when they refused to have abortions (Goodstein 2).
Jenna Miscavige Hill also cites repeated instances of abuse in the Sea Org, including
physical violence and pressure to get an abortion. In Sea Org, women are not
allowed to have children and are encouraged to get abortions, while also subjected to
