superiors; their lives were determined by their fathers, brothers and husbands who
dictated their rights and freedoms. Shakespeare depicts this reality in many of his

following his every order even as he grows cold and violent towards her, banishing
her to her room. Further, Emilia demonstrates the same obedience to Iago as she
steals the handkerchief from Desdemona and assists Iago in turning Othello
against his wife. Both Desdemona and Emilia, however, are destroyed by their
initial disobedience; Desdemona s betrayal of her father in marrying Othello, even

A barbed wire piano commemorates Korean independence
The Korean Ministry of Unification has joined forces with Cheil Worldwide, the
advertising arm of Samsung, to unveil the strangely beautiful Piano of Unification, a
project which commemorates Korea s 70th anniversary of liberation from Japanese
occupation, and aims to enhance interest in the national reunification of South and
North Korea. The piano in question uses barbed wire pulled from the inter Korean
border (a literal symbol of the nation s division) for its strings, and will be
exhibited and performed on in public at Seoul Museum of Art in central Seoul. All
of the wires used in the piano were taken from the border fence while some changes
were made to one of the pianos to allow it a greater range and sound accuracy.

The 1960 s Rooster
In expressive arts we are studying the theme of the 60 s. In our lesson we watched a
dance called Rooster .
Rooster was created for the Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve and first performed
on October 10 1991 at the Grand Theatre de Geneve,
Switzerland. It was first performed by Rambert Dance Company on 8
December 1994 at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle. Christopher Bruce (the
choreographer), wished to celebrate the music and to use the qualities of the song
to reflect the sexual war between women and men that he felt was revalent during
his teenage years. He compared the image of a strutting cockerel with its fine
feathers and the men dressed up to go out. Rooster is a creation of the 1960 s by using
The black and red may also represent feathers, like a rooster. The men wear black
trousers, velvet suits, and bright colours for their shirts; this reflects the dazzling,
flashy mood of the swinging 60 s.
The centre stage is illuminated initially enabling the opening dancer to walk into the
area whilst performing the rooster strut . There are occasional contrasts where
lighting fills the stage. This may be representing a disco or party, which again relates
to the setting as it shows the audience a typical night out in the 60 s.
The music is by the Rolling Stones who were popular between 1964 and
1969 who performed in a rhythm and blues style. They use a different song for
each dance. The first song seems very beaty and active, the second song seems
more slow and relaxed, and the third is very energetic, lively and repetitive. The
guitar and drums are used a lot in all of the 3 songs, which again relates to going out
in the 60 s.
All of the dances link together very well and seem to flow into one another. I
believe the first dance they use an animal theme (a rooster) effectively, as they are
looking for a mate. I believe it s used a metaphor for men on a Saturday night, out
on the prowl looking for girls. The second dance is representing courting, as they
have all found a partner. The third dance seems to be the fun part, where the 2 main
characters are dancing. I believe this part may relate to drugs, as the dancers are
moving in

States government, but was not always that. In the beginning, the primary building
was the estate of a British scientist by the name of James Smithson. In 1829, James
Smithson passed away, and lest an unusual request in his will. According to the

United States of America, to found at Washington, under the name of the Smithsonian
Institution, an Establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge. James

reasoning behind this is somewhat large, as provides so many services. Not only
does the institution serve as a free source of knowledge and entertainment for the

The Prisoner of Chillon, by Lord Byron essentially begins with a man who finds
himself imprisoned in Chillon s dungeon. He relived his father s persecution for
his belief, in turn, leads to his capture and death. He goes on about his three oldest
brothers killed by being burned and staked, as well as executed for their stance,
just as their father was. He and his two youngest brothers live imprisoned in
Chillon, while his second youngest brother dies first. He describes his second
youngest brother as, He was a hunter of the hills, / Had followed there the deer and
wolf; /To him this dungeon was a gulf, /And fetter d feet the worst of ills. (Lines 103
106). He could not handle being imprisoned, he longed for freedom, which in turn
broke his spirit, heart, mind, and so he lost his strength and the will to keep going in
life.
After time passes, his father s beloved youngest son dies. He faded, and so calm and
meek, / So softly worn, so sweetly weak, / So tearless, yet so tender kind, (Lines 187
189). He is the only survivor, and yet begins to give up on life. The prisoner reflects
on his last youngest brother s passing away in peace. That even in suffering his
brother held on to who he is and that being imprisoned would not break him, nor the
sickness that was killing him. Yet, the pain torments the prisoner s mind, of how
