Roman Art Comparison Essay
If one was to describe the Roman art, in my opinion the words realistic, and
functional, would give it judgment; which perhaps would describe rather well the
pragmatic Romans. Undoubtedly, both the painting and sculpture has its own
purpose, and a unique place in society; the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci,
has rather explicit opinion on the topic: A sculptor says that his art is more worthy
than painting because, fearing humidity, fire, heat, and cold less than painting, it is
more eternal. The response to him is that such a thing does not make the sculptor
more dignified because the permanence is born from the material and not from the
artificer. This dignity can also belong to painting by painting with colored glazes on
metal or terracotta... (Da Vinci, n.a.). According to Leonardo, the sculpture is more
eternal; it will last quite long time, the weather and the elements, will not... Show

In tempera the pigments were mixed with an adhesive and laid upon a dry surface.
The paintings would be applied either to the internal or external walls of the
buildings, where they would become an internal part of the structure. The Romans
seldom placed any furniture against the walls, nor did they hang any pictures on the
walls, so those paintings served as an elaborate decoration, and part of the
architectural design. (Durant, 1972). As one can see, the painting arts were a domain
of a skilled interior decorators , rather than artists in our sense of understanding;
which should give one a clue to the function of art in the Roman society. One should
not omit the fact that it was Romans who invented the landscape painting, and a
crude form of a linear perspective; furthermore, to satisfy the huge demand for
painting arts, the roman artists produced panel paintings, in encaustic and tempera,
including their own triumphal history painting. (Roman art,
Detecting And Protecting Against Inside Threats
Felipe Affonso Kaustubh M. Phaltankar April 18, 2016 Detecting and protecting
against inside threats Introduction Each day our world and our lives depend more
on information systems, systems that can guarantee that our informations are secure
and available just for our own purpose. Lots of companies work just if critical
information which is stored on their databases. It is the responsibility of these
companies to guarantee with their costumers that this data is secure. Lots of those
companies are concerned about their databases and try to improve their security
however. According to last year s Internet Security Report from Symantec, almost no
company, whether large or small, is immune to cyber attacks. Five of every six large
companies (2500+ employees) were targeted with spear phishing attacks in 2014, a
40 percent increase over the previous year[1]. Normally, companies are aware of
theses attacks and are trying to invest more and more in security. It s important to
point out that attacks are not just from the outside; breaches and even data leakage
can be accomplished by inside employees. So, it s really important to protect against
inside and outside attacks. High tech businesses rely primarily on two opposing
information values: the dissemination of information for innovation success and the
protection of information to retain competitive advantage[2]. These companies know
that just physical security isn t enough anymore, it s necessary to implement different
Examples Of The Past In The Great Gatsby
Past, Present, Future
During the 20 s, money ruled the desires of all men and encouraged indulgences,
spending, and the theme of life was to live it to the fullest. Thus, it wasn t abnormal
to see those spending the money try to forget and lose interest in their past and
future. But it s crucial for a human being to reflect on their past and also keep a look
out for their future because the present is not only a time to enjoy life but also a time
to prepare for the rest of it. Not learning from your mistakes guarantees that you will
repeat them and not expecting the future will leave you unprepared for the changes it
brings.
The present is something everyone should enjoy because it is a gift thus it is not
something that should be abused. For example in The Great Gatsby, Tom Buchanan
can be typically described as a powerful, rich jerk because although his past is grand,
he abuses the privileges of the present and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A great example of this is Mr. Jay Gatsby who is someone who believes in the past
of his life instead of the truths that appear right in front of his eyes. Throughout the
story, Gatsby has in his head an image of the Daisy he loved years ago as an
innocent, pretty, and rich young girl. In his past, this Daisy loved him back and
even wanted to someday marry him but the present Daisy doesn t match up to his
doting descriptions anymore. Thus to win his dream, Gatsby did almost
everything for Daisy to notice him; like when he, ...bought that house so that
Daisy would be just across the bay (4.151). Gatsby becomes so blinded by the past
and a bundle of what if s that he forgets to remember that whatever the past was to
him is gone now. This is not a good belief to have because living in the past can
make a person not believe in the reality of the situation and instead trust in their own
The Office Tv Show
Do you have a boss that can sometimes drive you up a wall? Or how about a co
worker that always seems to have something to say? If so, then The Office is just
the right show for you. The Office, first airing in 2005, is a comedy about
employees at Dunder Mifflin, the local paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
This TV show is meant to mock a reality TV show about the daily lives of those who

The first was losing Michael Scott. After he left, I did not find the show as
humorous as it was when he was present. Although Andy Barnard was a great
character, his humor did not come even close the level of Michael s. Having
Michael Scott leave the show was a smart move for the expansion of the show;
however, the show lost significant ratings due to this move. The second element
that I did not enjoy was Karen. Truthfully, she was a very annoying, self centered
character that was a waste of time for everyone. Luckily, she did not appear on the
show for long a season at the most so it did not harm the

New Entrants Below are several factors that invaders are difficult to enter an industry:
Economies of scale In order to compete with the established firms, Startup companies
have to operate with small margins.
Capital requirements It is very difficult for firms to enter into new ventures simply
because the capital required is too high and the existing firms need not worry about
new competition.
Access to distribution channels New companies struggle to market their products and
compete with the existing competive market.
Government policy Potential firms rely on favorable government policies for their

How Did The Art World Change In The 1970s
In the contemporary art world changes are constantly happening. Some changes
benefitted the art world and some did not. Lucky for artists in the 1970s the
amount of art related jobs were a lot and many public places opened up to display
new art. During the 1970s, SoHo was kicking off in the art world and attracting
many and by the end of the 1970s artists were beginning to become familiar with
one another and their works. In the 1980s, painters and sculptures had so much
creativity that a lot of their pieces made it into the clubs and different areas. Also in
the 1980s a lot of punk artwork was released. As time passed on rent prices raised
almost three times than it had originally been. This economic downfall continued into
the 1990s making
Choosing The Best Court For This Lawsuit For Funny Faces
Determining the best court for this lawsuit for Funny Faces Donald Margolin should
first consider the following his personal jurisdiction, subject matter jurisdiction, and
his minimum contact. Personal jurisdiction deals with the power, the power the court
s has over the parties involved in a certain case. It applies to this certain case because
Margolin is suing for his rights because his face turned blue after using Funny Faces
after shave cream. On the other hand subject matter jurisdictionis the courts power to
hear a certain case. This basically determines what courts will be involved in what
case. The importance of subject matter jurisdiction is crucial in this case because
Donald Margolin is trying to get his case heard by the right court in order for
justice to be served. Margolin doesn t want to have a lack of subject matter
jurisdiction which can cause his case to be dismissed. Margolin case may fall under
one of the three jurisdictions which are exclusive federal jurisdiction, state
jurisdiction, and concurrent jurisdiction. Very few case falls under exclusive
jurisdiction such as bankruptcy cases, admiralty cases, and cases dealing with federal
copyright. State jurisdiction deals with more cases that is not involved with the
exclusive jurisdiction of the federal court system. State court also deals with cases
involving adoption and divorce. Concurrent jurisdiction on the other hand means that
both state and federal court have jurisdiction over a case. If a case
My Transformation Exposure Of Multi Billion Dollar Asset...
Experience
I have over $130B in transformations and operated in over 10 industries. My
transformation exposure includes from, multi billion dollar asset programs impacting
a global footprint to smaller changes with only a local impact.
In the finance arena my experience addresses both small and large transformation
with impacts up to $60B. I have driven change covering from how the accounts are
presented, stored, accessed all the way to how they are processed, maintained and
reported on including, automated workflows, exemption reporting and automation of
financial processes feeding B2B, SMS, contact centres and collections.
At GE, as part of my $27M portfolio, I worked hand in hand with the Hardship team
to drive change management and re engineer process steps from contact centre to
approval by leveraging efficiencies provided through integrating regulatory
requirements and savings created by full use of the tool stack. This work package
included workshops to facilitate understanding of the issues and challenges,
evaluation processes to road test and couch the solutions at legal, regulatory,
executive, line manager and associate levels, integration of training on the new
solution and lessons learned to facilitate improved change in following cycles.
At The Link Group I orchestrated a complete change to client account handling and
regulatory reporting as part of a $40M ERP and business process transformation

The Storm Eagles During The Horus Heresy
The Storm Wardens and the Storm Eagles are one and the same. During the Horus
Heresy, Thorondor, Primarch of the Storm Eagles would not choose between
brother or father, therefore acting more or less as a neutral party. After the Horus
Heresy, the Emperor was much displeased with Thorondor and his decision not to
side with him during the war. So the Emperor, Thorondors father, condemned the
Second Legion to an Edict of Obliteration, all but wiping out the Storm Eagles. The
legions physical demise would be brought by Thorondors own brother, Leman Russ,
Primarch of the Space Wolves. Russ and his Space Wolves meticulously slaughtered

aboard their vessel The Eternal Storm. Thorondor pleaded for his precious
Astartes, for it was not their choice in defying the Emperor. They were simply
following orders. Russ decided that he would let the remaining Astartes live,
though at a cost. Knowing that unless he brought back Thorondors head, the
Allfather would not be satisfied. Leman Russ told Thorondor that if he sacrificed
himself, he would re locate the Storm Eagles elsewhere and not speak a word of it
to the Emperor. Thorondor, knowing that his brother was not one to lie or decieve,
took the Primarchs offer gladly. Asking only to have one more chance to see his

Art Therapy Career
I love art. I have wanted a career in art for as long as I can remember. However, for
years, I ve been told there is no practical use for art or that I could never be successful
if I pursued a career in art. People always say that art is just an elective or an easy A
in school, that it never be a practical career. I have still been activity searching for a
career based in the fine artsbecause I truly do enjoy it. After all the searching, I
finally found the perfect career for me. I want my future career to be an Art therapy.
A general snapshot of the career is: An art therapist treats and rehabilitates people

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Horror Genre Essay
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Horror Genre Typically the Horror or more
specifically Vampire genre will have the theme good vs. evil where the hero
represents good and the villain represents evil. This is consistent in Buffy the
Vampire Slayer as Buffy is the hero and the evil vampires she slays (in this episode
Glory/Ben) represent evil. There is also a clichГ© within this genre where good is
always triumphant over evil. Buffy in this episode conforms to this clichГ© but with
a twist; which is also typical of the Genre, good triumphs over evil in the end but not
without a sacrifice. Although Buffy contains many of the conventions that are typical
of the horror genre it also contains many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is something unusual about the villain in this episode of Buffy in so much
as she has taken on the body of an innocent teenage boy called Ben meaning Buffy
faces a moral dilemma (moral dilemmas are typical of this genre) when trying to
eradicate Glory s threat. Buffy decides she cannot take a human life (Ben) even if
it ensures the safety of the world proving her to be a hero that holds a strong grip
on her morals. However, another group member ; Giles who from his appearance
looks clever takes a different course of action to the problem; he decides the only
way is to kill Glory/Ben and with this he slowly suffocates the severely injured Ben
. This provides the audience with a tear jerking moment. Typical stock characters
of a horror film include Vampires, Goblins, Zombies and innocent Victims. In this
episode of Buffy we see only one of these stock characters: Goblins. The Goblins
are typically ugly looking creatures who have hunchbacks and green skin as in this
episode of Buffy. They are loyal to their mistress and help her to fight Buffy and her
friends. Stereotypically the horror genre will contain a twist at the end. Buffy
conforms to this in her tragic death, she saves Dawn but not without a sacrifice. As
Buffy slowly realises

A Comparison of Two Characters in A Rose for Emily and Barn Burning In A
Rose for Emily and Barn Burning, William Faulkner creates two characters worthy
of comparison. Emily Grierson, a recluse from Jefferson, Mississippi, is an
important figure in the town, despite spending most of her life in seclusion. On the
contrary, Abner Snopes is a loud, fiery tempered man that most people tend to avoid.
If these characters are judged by reputation and outward appearance only, the
conclusion would be that Emily Grierson and Abner Snopes are complete opposites.
However, despite the external differences, these two characters have surprisingly
similar personalities. First of all, Emily Grierson and Abner Snopes have very

Colonel Grierson limits the people Miss Emily is allowed to see and to the point
that she has no friends or even acquaintances. So after her father dies, she does not
know anyone and has no idea how to socialize and make friends. Just as Miss
Emily is isolated from the townspeople, they feel isolated from her. She is thought
of not as someone to befriend, but as a member of the aristocracy, like a princess
or queen of the town. She is far removed from the rest of society. As usual, common
townspeople do not socialize with the high class citizens, so neither does the
community get to know Miss Emily. The town puts together rumors they hear and
forms the story of her life. At her funeral, all the people come and are talking of
Miss Emily as if she had been a contemporary of theirs, believing they had danced
with her and courted her perhaps, confusing time with its mathematical
progression (58). However the true reason they go is not because she was a close
friend. The people go for two reasons: the men through a sort of respectful affection
for a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her
house (47). They view her as a tradition, a duty, and care; a sort of hereditary
obligation upon the town (47). She is never a true, genuine person in anyone s mind,
only an unreachable object. Miss Emily lives her life as a recluse because of the gap

the world by surface area. It lies on the boundary between the Interior Plains and the
Southwestern Canadian Shield. Up to five and a half million people rely on the

This ratio makes Lake Winnipeg more susceptible to excessive nutrient levels,
leading to massive algal blooms and lake wide eutrophication. Nutrient entry points
include the Winnipeg River from the east, The Saskatchewan River from the west,
the Red River from the south, and precipitation. The largest source of total
phosphorus (68% total phosphorus load) and nitrogen (34% total nitrogen load) to
Lake Winnipeg is the Red River, followed by the Winnipeg River as second largest.
Approximately 60% of phosphorus and 54% of nitrogen that enters the lake through
these tributaries and precipitation is retained. The only major outflow point is the
Nelson River from the northeast. The Nelson River allows approximately 2500
tonnes of phosphorus to flow out of the lake, and has been used for electric power
generation since 1976 (LWF, 2011). Elevated nutrient concentrations at the southern
end of Lake Winnipeg are most likely a result of the nutrient rich inflow of the Red
River, with phosphorus concentrations being almost three times higher in the south
Caterpillar Equipment has Come a Long Way
Caterpillar has come a long way from its beginnings. What started as two competitors,
Benjamin Holt and Daniel Best, working to improve farm equipment has turned into
an international corporation committed to making progress possible and employing
more than 132,000 people. From providing the power that brought us Neil Armstrong
s first words from the moon to enabling construction of the tunnel under the English
Channel, their rugged yellow machinery has been breaking ground and moving
mountains for more than 85 years. Over those years, Caterpillar people have followed
in their founders footsteps, introducing breakthrough solutions for the purpose of
enhancing their customers success (Caterpillar, 2014).
The heart of the Cat brand is a devotion to the customer. Cat s business model is
fundamentally different than their leading competitors because it revolves around
the promise of total life cycle value. Cat products are designed with superior quality,
unsurpassed reliability, durability, serviceability, reparability and outstanding
support. Caterpillar East Peoria has been building tractors for 100 years now and
their mission statement includes the goal of producing 1 tractor in 10 days so they
will remain around for another 100 years (Caterpillar, 2014).
Trying to remain customer focused and to build even a larger presence, Cat East
Peoria was the first to follow in its competitor s footsteps by streamlining its

Women Have the Burden of Birth Control
Worrying about getting pregnant is a pain that everyone who is sexually active has to
face, or should face. The question is, who does that burden of worrying about getting

responsibility when it comes to providing contraception during sex. Women have
more invested when it comes to sex due to the consequences that result from failing to
protect against pregnancy. Looking at the burden of contraception in four different
ways, the time involved, the cost of birth control, the physical side effects of

Some men and/or women have allergic reactions to the rubber used to make latex

Birth control is not 100% effective, it can fail just like any other form of

The different types of birth control pills a woman can take all have different
amounts of each hormone. As a woman gets older her body s hormones that it
naturally produces will change causing the amount of each hormone that is needed
to change, because of the changing hormone levels, it can cause a women s birth

Syariah prohibits the fixed or floating payment or acceptance of specific interest or

of money). However, these principles may have been applied to historical Islamic
economies and in the late 20th century that a number of Islamic banks were formed
to apply these principles to private or semi private commercial institutions within the

In early Islamic banking, a number of economic concepts and techniques were

There are a few main beliefs that can be described as being truly Rastafarians, They
are the following!
Haile Selassie is the living God. All true Rastafarians believe that Haile Selassie,
the emperor of Ethiopia, is the true and living God, at least for the black race. One
member of the Rastafarian Repatriation Association it explained this way: We know
before that when a king should be crowned in the land of David s throne, that
individual would be Shiloh, the anointed one, the Messiah, the Christ returned in the
personification of Rastafari. He (Ras Tafari) is the Ancient of Days (The bearded
God). The scripture declares that the hair of whose head was like wool (matted hair),
whose feet were like unto burning brass (i.e., black skin). The scripture declares that
God hangs in motionless space surrounded with thick darkness (hence a black man).
Rastafarians also regard Haile Selassie I as God because of Marcus Garvey s
prophesy Look to Africa where a black king shall be crowned, he shall be the
redeemer was swiftly followed by the ascension of Haile Selassie I as Emperor of
Ethiopia. The notion of Haile Selassie being the God of the black

comical, showing a town where everyone is Ryan Reynolds to catch your attention.
These commercials use pathos, ethos, and logos to sell their product.
Advertisements use many forms of persuasion to get people to buy their product.
One of these is pathos, which appeals to the emotions of the audience and evokes
their feelings. In the Honda commercial, one can see sheep in the pasture singing to
Somebody to Love after the farmer drives off in his new Honda Ridgeline. This is
very humorous, considering sheep do not speak, let alone belt out notes from
Queen. Not only are there singing sheep, but there is a talking dog towards the end
of the commercial which tells those who are watching about the Honda Ridgeline (
Honda Ridgeline Super Bowl Commercial internet). This is similar to the Hyundai
commercial, which is also very amusing. The audience can see two women driving
through a neighborhood, where every person is Ryan Reynolds. This shows pathos,
because it appeals to the viewers emotions by laughing at the comical commercial (
Ryanville Hyundai Super Bowl internet). Another form of persuasion commercials
use is ethos, which appeals to one s ethics. In the
The North Coast And Gulf Coast Of Florida
There were a total of 48 counties that were studied along the Gulf Coast. These
counties were used as the regions for how each state was subdivided. The coastal
regions were made of 22 regions in Florida, 2 regions in Alabama, 3 regions in
Mississippi, 9 regions in Louisiana, and 12 regions in Texas. When the entire
coastline of Floridawas studied, Florida has 1,350 miles of coastline. There are 35
counties that are along the coastline of Florida. One additional county was used
that is not along the coastline as there was a shark bite at a Disney park. Larger
counties were subdivided for a total of 55 regions; this is similar to the previous
research conducted by Amin, Ritter and Kennedy (2012) [1]. The East Coast and

It has a relative risk of 14.55 and a p value of 0.297. The p value again is greater than
alpha of 0.05, and it is concluded that there is an equal chance of being bitten by a
shark across all regions.
Another purely spatial analysis was run to scan for clusters with low risk rates with
a maximum window size set to 50% as before. The resulting cluster was made of the
counties of the northern most part of Texas, all of the coastal counties of Louisiana
and Mississippi and the most western county in Alabama, which in Figure 9 12 is
represented by regions 57 71. There is a relative risk of 0 and a p value of 0.000016
(see Figure 8). Since the p value of 0.000016 is less than alpha of 0.05, the null
hypothesis that there is an equal chance of being bitten by a shark is rejected; it
can be concluded that there is a lower risk in this region than all other regions
studied as represented in Figures 9 12. When the retrospective space time analysis is
run in SaTScanTM for high rates, produced four clusters, but none of the p values are
less than alpha at 0.05. It appears that from 2004 to 2005, the risk of being bitten by
a shark was heightened, and there is a relative risk of 22.46 (see Figure 13). When
scanning for low rates, there was a relative risk of 0 from the coast of eastern
Louisiana to the central part of the Gulf Coast of Florida for 1994 to 1998 (see

Semiotics In Romeo And Juliet
This essay will pose as a semiotic analysis of a famous quote from Shakespeare s
Romeo and Juliet. Semiotics are commonly used in daily life, but often go
unnoticed. Many quotes that are used by business professionals are quotes from
famous writers such as Shakespeare. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the phrase
Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall. Resonated with me and is
the phrase that I chose to analyze in this essay. The words and ideas that are signs in
the quote are wisely, slowly, rush, stumble and fall. These words are signs in the
quote because each wordpossesses an underlying meaning. In this essay, a semiotic
analysis of the phrase from Romeo and Juliet will be provided as it relates to
business professionals and what the phrase signifies when used in that context.
Shakespeare suggests that wisely in this context signifies making smart, mature
decisions in any given situation because each decision that is made can excel or
hinder future endeavors. The pros and cons should be weighed before committing,
in order to make a sound decision. Without proper information and guidance, one is
essentially ignorant to the task at hand. For example, a mentor may be necessary
because they may have accomplished a goal that you are aiming towards and can
give advice on what you should and shouldn t do while trying to reach your goal.
Furthermore, the word slowly signifies taking your time to accomplish tasks and
goals. It takes a great amount of patience to see how things done now will pay off
overall. Great things aren t accomplished overnight. From a business standpoint, it
means that you must work your way to the top. The process may seem slow, but the
progress is in constant evolution in preparation for the outcome. There is a stigma
that has been placed upon individuals by society that to be successful, things must be
accomplished quickly and if they aren t, then it equates to a lessened sense of
success in some cases.
Additionally, the word rush is a sign that signifies how sometimes as human beings
with our longing for instant gratification, we tend to want to speed up the process
without a second thought. People tend to rush the process of life to attain temporary
happiness which
The First Chapter Of Freakonomics By Steven D. Levitt
1. In the first chapter of Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner,
it talks about dealing with societal mores, economic incentives, and cheating. With
schoolteachers, the possibility of getting a pay raise and the grades their students
get on standardized tests are some of the incentives that derive them to cheat. In
the book, Levitt explains how he examines sets of answers to these tests and tries
to see a pattern if teachers were changing answers for their students. Dubner and
Levitt, both incorporate samples of these scored tests and have the readers try and
find the cheating detected on there. Teacher cheating is rarely looked for, hardly
ever detected, and just about never punished. (Levitt and Dubner 24) The
incentives for teachers are to be more recognized and a chance to get a better pay
while, for sumo wrestlers, they can move up a rank. The only difference is that for
sumo wrestlers, they never got caught because in Japan, they assume they are
always telling the truth and never lying, while for teachers, some lost their jobs
because they were caught. Cheating is a primordial economic act: getting more for
less. (Levitt and Dubner 21) Cheating is something I have witnessed multiple of
times while being in school. There were students who would help and talk during
tests to get better grades on the exam since the teacher wasn t paying attention to the
class when we took the test. At the end of it all, they did get away with it and the

Austim Spectrum Disorder
INTRODUCTION Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are a group of
neurodevelopmental disorders that have overlapping diagnostic criteria related to
deficits in communication, and restricted interests and repetitive behaviour, Duffy
and Healy ( as cited in Worley Matson, 2012). Recent studies in the United States
reported the diagnosis of an ASD in 1 out of 91 children of between age three to
seventeen years (Kogan et al., 2009) and 1 out of 110 children age eight years
(Rice, Baio, Van, Doernberg, Meaney Kirby, 2007). Idro, Newton, Kiguli and
Mwesige, (2010) found the prevalence of mental handicap, severe developmental
/cognitive delay or regress in East Africa to be 17.0% while general behaviour
problems was 3.9%. Jarbrink and Knapp (2001) note that ASDs requires
management throughout an individual s life, with no specific cure; this results in
high costs of interventions. This presents specific sets of challenges to caregivers
especially in resource strained settings. Several studies have shown that parents of
children with developmental disabilities experience heightened stress (Blacher, 1984;
Schieve, Blumberg, Rice, Visser and Boyle, 2007), impaired mental health (Weiss,
1991), a sense of devaluation and self blame (Holroyd, Brown, Wikler Simmons,
1975), and impaired physical functioning, tiredness and exhaustion (Hedov, Anneren
Wikblad, 2000; Emerson, 2003). While acknowledging the changing gender roles,

Organizational Culture and Structure
Organizational Culture and Structure
The structure of an organization determines the allocation of roles, regulations, and
responsibilities, and therefore builds a basis for the culture in an organization. There
is a constant relationship between organizational structure and organizational culture
that provides a theme within an organization. Both can be difficult to clearly define
and distinguish when analyzing an organization. Organization culture is a perspective
into the company s personality; it provides descriptive values, principals, traditions,
and a way of doing things that effect how members view the organization (Robbins,
DeCenzo, Coulter, 2013). The organizational structure builds the ... Show more

Stories of innovation inspire creativity and help build the strength of an organization
s culture. A strong organizational cultureholds key values that are shared with all
members. It is the responsibility of leaders to uphold an organization s culture to
ensure that there is a proper foundation that binds the structure.
Organizational Structure Any organization should have its own operating structure in
order to reach success. Organizational structure is defined as a hierarchy of people
that determine roles of authority, communications, and the duties of an organization
(Robbins et al., 2013). Organizations must organize their structure to meet the needs
of that particular organization, and assure that it resembles the values instilled by the
organizational culture. The development of culture through an organization is a
natural process that is dependent upon the instilled values of the leaders and members
in the organization (O Neil, 2011). Leaders can still influence the culture by sticking
to their values and implementing a strong and effective organizational structure.
There are several models that organizations can utilize to structure the elements
within the organization.
The structure of an organization can be divided into two generic organization
structure models. Below is a chart as presented by Robbins et al. (2013)
Fighting Words In Canada
Fighting words are written or spoken words, generally expressed to incite hatred or
violence from their target. Specific definitions, freedoms, and limitations of fighting
words vary by jurisdiction. It is also used in a general sense of words that when
uttered tend to create a verbal or physical confrontation by their mere usage.
In Canada, freedom of speech is generally protected under Section 2 of Canadian
Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Criminal Code of Canada, however, limits
these freedoms and provides for several forms of punishable hate speech. The form of
punishable hate speech considered to encompass fighting words is identified in
Section 319:

v. City of St. Paul, the Court overturned a statute prohibiting speech or symbolic
expression that arouses anger, alarm or resentment in others on the basis of race,
color, creed, religion or gender on the grounds that, even if the specific statute was
limited to fighting words, it was unconstitutionally content based and viewpoint based
because of the limitation to race /religion /sex based fighting words. The Court,
however, made it repeatedly clear that the City could have pursued any number of
other avenues, and reaffirmed the notion that fighting words could be properly
regulated by municipal or state governments.
In Snyder v. Phelps, dissenting Justice Samuel Alito likened the protests of the
Westboro Baptist Church members to fighting words and of a personal character, and
thus not protected speech. The majority disagreed and stated that the protester s
speech was not personal but public, and that local laws which can shield funeral
attendees from protesters are adequate for protecting those in times of emotional
Extent Primate Analysis
1.Introduction:
Extent Primates provide great insight as analogies into facilitating an understanding
of how tool use, culture and cognition developed in the early hominid lineage.
Archaeologists interpret primate behaviors and social structures as a means of
investigating the evolution of hominin technology. This process will be briefly
outlined as well as a number of the benefits and disadvantages presented when using
extant primates as analogies in this way.
An analogy creates a comparison between two subjects through likening and
contrasting aspects about them. Thus looking into extant primate tool usage, one can
gain insight into possible early hominin tool usage. This, as they can provide, to a
certain extent, a living interpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chimps for example, have similar hands to humans, however, when using a hammer
stone, they frequently use a power grip where all fingers are used to control nut
cracking (Wong, 2004). Here, their finger proportions inhibit easy coordination
between the index finger and thumb (Wong, 2004). This is significantly different to
that of hominids who have hands and thumbs which are very effective and allow for
precise knapping and control over hammer stones. This illustrates that their
differences in physical characteristics lead to distinctly different behaviors that cannot

Guernica s History Essay
Guernica s History
The word art is an encompassing one, vastly interpreted and with multiple
definitions. In the case of Picasso s painting Guernica, art informs, educates and
expresses. Its power lies in its ability to capture and compel an audience nearly six
decades after the modern world s other day of infamy. To understand fully the
painting that evolved out of the Spanish painter s outrage, one must know its
context. Why do you think I date everything I do? Because it is not sufficient to
know an artist s works it is also necessary to know when he did them, why, under
what circumstances (Picasso). An appreciator who knows the saga of Spain s
historical fishing village is given a depth of experience that only a genius like ... Show

The apparent goal of the assault was hitting a bridge near an important road junction
that possibly could be used in the future by Republican forces. Given that the intent
was only to hit the bridge, Von Richthofen would have used his Stuka dive bombers,
capable of carrying a single bomb weighing 1,000 pounds. Equipped with the latest
bomb sights, a Stuka had a high chance of taking out the bridge with one direct hit.
Even a near miss would have made a powerful shock wave that, if it did not cause
the bridge the bridge to collapse, would doubtless have made it unsafe for traffic

The Condor Legion had had many successful missions to prove their accuracy. For

bombers and Heinkel fighters which were loaded with 3,ooo pounds of bombs
weighing up to 550 pounds each along with more than 3,ooo two pounder aluminum

The American President -a movie review Essay example
The American President a movie review The American President is a romantic
comedy that takes place in the White House during primary season. The president is
hoping to be reelected and to pass two bills, one on gun control and one on fuel
restrictions. During this movie, the president meets Sydney, a lobbyist, and goes out
with her, and because of this he takes a hit on his ratings. The American President
shows many different themes covered in politics and government 101, these themes
are the rolls of the media, polls, primaries and elections, and the process of
introducing a bill to congress. This movie also shows the relationship between the
executive branch and the legislative branch while detailing the relationship the...

The president then took a major hit in the polls. The president s staff relied on
public opinion polls a lot throughout the quot;Sydney conflict. quot; A fair amount
of the criticism of Sydney came from the fact that she is a lobbyist for a special
interest group, the GDC (or Global Defense Committee). A good depiction of the
interaction between the president and interest groups was seen in The American
President. In this movie a special interest group, the GDC, sent a lobbyist, Sydney, to
get a bill introduced into the senate. The process they went through, convincing the
president to introduce the bill if they got enough support from congressmen and then
seeing them gain support from the congressmen, was very informative. This movie
also helped set a complete picture of the way the president works in the political
system. Two relationships were alluded to in The American President but not
directly confronted, one was between the president and congress, and the other was
between the president and his staff. In this movie the president was shown making
deals with senators and fighting for their approval on certain subjects. He was also
seen seeking help from his advisors, not listening to advice from his advisors, and
this movie showed how much the President depended on his staff. The way that the
President lent on his staff was quite humanizing. This in turn opened the door for a
Linguistic Relativity Essay
Introduction:
Linguistic relativity is the notion that language can affect our thought processes,
and is often referred to as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis , after the two linguists who
brought the idea into the spotlight. Whorf writes how Language is not merely a
reproducing instrument for voicing ideas but rather is itself the shaper of ideas, the
program and guide for the individual s mental activity (1956:212), and I will
explain how it is able to do so. In this essay I will argue that certain ways of mental
categorization, spatial cognition and reality interpretation, based on the
characteristics of our specific variety of language, influence our perception of the
world. I will discuss how languages divide up nature differently, and... Show more

Dirven and Verspoor note how the English differentiation is entirely forced on these
children by the contrast between the English prepositions in and on (1998:140),
whereas in Korean, Kkita (glossable loosely as fit ...) is indifferent to whether the
Figure goes into, onto, over, or together with the Ground, as long as it leads to a tight
fit (Choi and Bowerman 1991:90).
The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the
grammatical structure of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity,
as both groups of children construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on
the basis of their language specific categories, and not on the basis of some universal,
conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor 1998:140 141). This suggests that the
children from the two linguistic communities will partly see the world in a different
way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions.
Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different
languages prioritise different qualities. What this means is that when we say
something belongs to a certain set, e.g. that putting toys into a container falls into an
in group, we are focussing on some, but neglecting other details of the situation, such
as the tightness of the fit. The framework of our language
Wireless Based Third Generation ( 3g ) Wireless Network
UMTS BASED third generation (3G) cellular network can be seen operating
working in many of the countries across the globe. The 3G networks offer a
substantial increase in the capacity for data and voice communications compared
to the 2G or 2.5G networks. The 3G networks are built on WCDMA. HSDPA [2] is
an updated version of Release 99 versions of the 3G networks, providing as high as
possible downlink speed of 10 Mbps. We will be going to examine 3G network
capacity and delay performances of IP based applications on 3G and HSDPA
networks. Extensive efforts are being taken to find the high no. of users that CDMA
based systems can support while maintaining the desired quality of service for
everyone [3], [4]. But these are more useful for preliminary capacity approximation
and network planning purposes. There have been a measurement studies on 3G
networks but are mainly focused on the performance of pure data traffic under lightly
loaded or controlled environments [9]. Another study [14] was done which separately
measured the voice and data call capacities of an experimental 3G network. However,
the measurements were conducted in a fully controlled environment, where the
network configuration consisted of only one cell, with the admission control
disabled. The study describes the performance of live 3G networks under saturated
conditions by usage of data, video, and voice traffic. Field measurements were
conducted on three commercial 3G networks in Hong Kong with the
Don Pablo Escobar Thesis
Imagine being hated and loved by so many people, running from police, killing
people that got in your way, and taking control of your hometown; that s exactly
what Don Pablo or Pablo Escobar did. He was a drug lord who, at his height of his
career, smuggled more than eighty percent of the cocaine into America. Escobar was
born December 1, 1949 in Rionegro, Colombia. Although he was born into a lower
class family, he would grow to become on of the riches men in the world during his
time, according to Forbes. Young Escobar would get his start in the streets by
stealing tombstones and would take them back to his house and sandblast the names
off them, once he did that he would sell them (Minister 1). Even before this he would

He ordered the assassination of presidential candidates and was even rumored to
be behind the 1985 attack on the Supreme Court, carried out by the 19th of April
insurrectionist movement in which several Supreme Court Justices were killed
(Pablo Escobar Biography). This easily shows how he is a villain because he went
against the government which he is a part of. Even though he has been against the
government and lashing back at the government pretty much his whole life but
this is the biggest thing he has done to go against them. Although it isn t one
hundred percent sure that he exactly did this, it wouldn t be a surprise because he
was a ruthless person and knew that he could easily get away with this. Just like
the other bombing and the killings he has done. The bombings made him even
more of a villain because he would go that far to bomb something. He does what he
has to do, but when it comes to bombing and killing several of the Supreme Court,
that might be a little too far. But it did show the power that he had and shows how
much of a villain. He can almost compare him to V from V for Vendetta. V would
go around killing people and bombing important government buildings to get his
point across. Maybe even to show his power, minus the smuggling of drugs across
borders of course. But they both wanted to show how they were villains and would
both end the same way:dead. Because they pushed

The history of sports has come a long way as it developed throughout the centuries.
It was where the foundation of sports was created. For example, in the Rome the
chariot races were held. Today they have changed, whether it is new things being

The ability of athletes has improved throughout the centuries which has taken the
activities to a who different level leaving the ancient as history today. The ball
games in the ancient civilization were as popular as they are today. For example,
in mesoamerica, a religious ball game by the name of Ulama still existed in the
northwestern part of Mexico. The game was played by the olmecs back in the
1800 B.C. The game consisted of a rubber ball and used the hips to hit it, similar to
how tennis is played today. Over the centuries, the rules changes in order for other
other tribes to play it. In this case, the pre Colombian Maya s, zapotecs and Aztecs

Mary Wollstonecraft Chapter 7 Summary
In Chapter Seven, Wollstonecraft deeply discusses the idea of modesty and its overall
meaning. She argues that modesty is different than humility and bashfulness, and that
it is a virtue instead of a quality. She also discusses how modesty contributes to the
idea of sexual pleasure, and how that differs from both men and women.
In relation to women, she discusses that a modest woman is one that puts time into
intellectual pursuits rather than sexual ones. She states A woman who has dedicated
much of her time to purely intellectual pursuits, and whose affections have been
exercised by humane plans of usefulness, must as a natural consequence have more
purity of mind than the ignorant beings whose time and thoughts have been occupied

Goliath Bird Eating Spider Research Paper
The goliath bird eating spider is the heaviest of all spiders in the word weighing
almost half a pound! It is also arguably the largest spider competing with the giant
huntsman spider. They both have a leg span of about 12 inches! That s the size a
small pizza! Their bodies are dark brown covered by reddish hairs giving the spidera
golden blond appearance. The coloration of this spider gives it its species name
blondi which is the Latin word for blond, or golden. The goliath bird eating spider is
found in rainforests from southern Venezuela east to Guyana, Suriname, French
Guiana and north eastern Brazil. The Goliath bird eating spider was named by
explorers who first reported them to the western world, and witnessed one eating a

Like all tarantulas, its body is covered in movement sensing hairs. Its eyes can only
detect light or darkness rather than seeing anything. It relies almost completely on
its hairs to alert it of prey or predators. When threated, the bird eater will first rub its
hind legs together very quickly to make a loud hissing noise hoping to confuse and
scare its predator. If that doesn t work they will raise up on their hind legs and bear
their inch long fangs. If bitten the predator will experience extreme pain and
swelling, but no permanent damage will be induced. If the predator still won t them

Heart Rate Anticipatory Response
Heart rate anticipatory response this is where the heart rate starts to automatically
increase before you start to exercise. The heart rate is able to increase automatically
by chemical hormones, the hormones are adrenaline and noradrenaline. These
hormones are found inside the brain. The reason the heartrate increase before exercise
is because it prepares the muscles for exercise, the reason it prepares the muscles
for exercise is because by the heart rate increase the more oxygen is getting to the
muscles there fore they will not be needing a such a large oxygen supply all at
once. It doesn t only supply oxygen it supply s nutrients, the supply of nutrients also
provides energy and helps to repair the muscles after exercise. By the heart rate
starting to increase gives the heart a head to start pumping hard this enables the heart
to not have as much stress on it.
Activity response activity response is when your brain can start to sense
cardiovascular activity. The brain is able to make changes in the heart rate, the
change includes heart rate increase and the strength of the heart pumping blood
around the body. The red blood cells can also be altered to if they need more oxygen

Vasoconstriction is when the working muscles are not getting the oxygen they
need because the veins and vessels are stopping the blood flow. In this process of
vasoconstriction the diameter of the vessels get smaller therefore the blood that is
able to flow out of the blood vessels gets decreased. Blood vessels constrict together
instead of being relaxed. This happens during exercise because that s when the
working muscles need oxygen. The other muscles don t need as much oxygen there
for when the blood gets there it gets redirected to the other muscles that are working
and that require more oxygen. Therefore when exercising the legs the stomach
wouldn t get as much blood to use as the legs
Women s Employment Rates During World War I
What? Women s employment rates increased sharply during WWI, which is from
23.6% to between 37.7% and 46.7%. These women workers were engaged into
jobs left by men who had enlisted in the war. Some new jobs were also created due
to the war, like munitions factories. This caused many women working in areas of
work that were normally belong to men. For example like the railway guards and
ticket collectors. Also, some female workers need to work with poisonous materials

Who or what are the sides? The key people involved are women especially married
women during the WWI. c) What was Canada s role? As a country that was
involved in WWI, the war had a significant effect on Canadian women. They have
actively participated in war, from nursing and munitions manufacturing during the
First World War. d) What were the results? Women received much less wages so
they began some of the earliest demands for equal pay. For example, a committee
was set up by the War Cabinet in 1917 to examine the question of women s wages.
There were accidents and women got killed or injured. Some women in munitions
factories were called canaries because they had to handle TNT (the chemical
compound trinitrotoluene) which caused their skin to turn yellow. Around 400
women died from overexposure to TNT during WWI. Women s employment rates
increased during WWI, from 23.6% in 1914 to between 37.7% and 46.7% in 1918.
The employment of married women increased sharply accounting for nearly 40% of
all women workers by 1918. Women s rights were advanced since they took their
own paid job outside the home, ran their homes alone, and supported the whole

(17.8%) and Itochu Corporation (4.4%). The vehicle manufacturing plant in Nairobi
assembles a wide range of Isuzu trucks and buses. It is the largest manufacturer of
commercial vehicles in the Eastern Africa region with more than fifteen models. GM

Maury F. Dieterich was appointed the new managing director of GM (K). Mr.
Dieterich had been the financial director for three years prior to this, and he was
therefore already well known by the local staff. Mr. Dieterich, as managing
director, is a member of the board of GM (K), which is presently chaired by Mr.
Bernard Hinga. Mr. Hinga and most directors are Kenyans. Company Objectives
Discussing the production capacity of GM (K), Mr. Dieterich recently reported
that the Nairobi plant was operating with only one shift (It has a three shift
potential) and forecast production at 2,300 units approximately 60% of the
capacity of one shift (E.g. 800 medium duty trucks, 600 light duty trucks, 500 pick
ups, 300 utility vehicles and 100 buses). This is reportedly a 50% increase over
last year s level of production. Utilizing a greater proportion of the production
capacity would help GM (K) to fulfill a national goal of providing more jobs. Mr.
Dieterich also stated that GM (K) had a responsibility to its customers and to the
public to continually improve the quality and safety of its products to meet both
strict international and GMC parent company standards, and to maintain high levels
of service. In short, he stated that it is service and quality that really sells products.
Finally, Mr. Dieterich said that he would follow his predecessor s example of an open

Signal Corps Enhances American Civil War Essay
Signal Corps Enhances American Civil War The American Civil War is debatably the
first modern warfare in American history (Hagerman, 1988, XI). The Civil War was
the beginning of a new era, the contemporary operational environment. Field
commanders had to deal with conditions, influences, and circumstances that affect the
utilizations of militaryforces. Commanders could no longer rely on past experiences
to determine future outcomes. Commanders had to take variables other than military
forces into consideration. Field commanders during the American Civil Warhad to
deal with several factors that affect the conditions, influences, and circumstances on
the battlefield: national will, nature and stability of the state, military capabilities,
economics, sociological demographics, information, physical environment, time, and
technology. Commanders had to focus on all aspects of the operational environment
to effectively employ military forces.
Field commanders had difficulty exercising mission command over large armies and
could not deliver critical information across the battlefield in a timely manner.
Commanders had to adjust to changes in the physical environment, dealing with
complex terrains and adverse weather conditions. The Union Army and the
Confederate Army had to deal with economic issues, as well available resources. The
first Army to implement technological advances in communications into the
operating environment will certainly have a superior
Analysis Of Steve Smulka Paints Glass
Steve Smulka paints glass but it might be more accurate to say that Smulka paints
light. Smulka uses mason jars, vintage seltzer bottles, wine decanters, vases and water
pitchers to capture the way light bends, refracts, illuminates, and distorts its
surroundings. In some of the paintings, backgrounds of looming clouds and ridged
tree bark are as in focus as the glass containers in the foreground, merging the two in a
poetic, scrupulously accurate, yet slightly unreal manner. In other paintings, bottles in
columns two, three, or four deep create multiple layers of transparency that make for
almost abstract studies of light and color. In Steve Smulka s closely observed,
meditative paintings, these densely luminous layers give weight to the

  • 2. Roman Art Comparison Essay If one was to describe the Roman art, in my opinion the words realistic, and functional, would give it judgment; which perhaps would describe rather well the pragmatic Romans. Undoubtedly, both the painting and sculpture has its own purpose, and a unique place in society; the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci, has rather explicit opinion on the topic: A sculptor says that his art is more worthy than painting because, fearing humidity, fire, heat, and cold less than painting, it is more eternal. The response to him is that such a thing does not make the sculptor more dignified because the permanence is born from the material and not from the artificer. This dignity can also belong to painting by painting with colored glazes on metal or terracotta... (Da Vinci, n.a.). According to Leonardo, the sculpture is more eternal; it will last quite long time, the weather and the elements, will not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In tempera the pigments were mixed with an adhesive and laid upon a dry surface. The paintings would be applied either to the internal or external walls of the buildings, where they would become an internal part of the structure. The Romans seldom placed any furniture against the walls, nor did they hang any pictures on the walls, so those paintings served as an elaborate decoration, and part of the architectural design. (Durant, 1972). As one can see, the painting arts were a domain of a skilled interior decorators , rather than artists in our sense of understanding; which should give one a clue to the function of art in the Roman society. One should not omit the fact that it was Romans who invented the landscape painting, and a crude form of a linear perspective; furthermore, to satisfy the huge demand for painting arts, the roman artists produced panel paintings, in encaustic and tempera, including their own triumphal history painting. Phaltankar April 18, 2016 Detecting and protecting against inside threats Introduction Each day our world and our lives depend more on information systems, systems that can guarantee that our informations are secure and available just for our own purpose. Lots of companies work just if critical information which is stored on their databases. It is the responsibility of these companies to guarantee with their costumers that this data is secure. Lots of those companies are concerned about their databases and try to improve their security however. According to last year s Internet Security Report from Symantec, almost no company, whether large or small, is immune to cyber attacks. Five of every six large companies (2500+ employees) were targeted with spear phishing attacks in 2014, a 40 percent increase over the previous year[1]. Normally, companies are aware of theses attacks and are trying to invest more and more in security. It s important to point out that attacks are not just from the outside; breaches and even data leakage can be accomplished by inside employees. So, it s really important to protect against inside and outside attacks. High tech businesses rely primarily on two opposing information values: the dissemination of information for innovation success and the protection of information to retain competitive advantage[2]. These companies know that just physical security isn t enough anymore, it s necessary to implement different
  • 4. Examples Of The Past In The Great Gatsby Past, Present, Future During the 20 s, money ruled the desires of all men and encouraged indulgences, spending, and the theme of life was to live it to the fullest. Thus, it wasn t abnormal to see those spending the money try to forget and lose interest in their past and future. But it s crucial for a human being to reflect on their past and also keep a look out for their future because the present is not only a time to enjoy life but also a time to prepare for the rest of it. Not learning from your mistakes guarantees that you will repeat them and not expecting the future will leave you unprepared for the changes it brings. The present is something everyone should enjoy because it is a gift thus it is not something that should be abused. For example in The Great Gatsby, Tom Buchanan can be typically described as a powerful, rich jerk because although his past is grand, he abuses the privileges of the present and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A great example of this is Mr. Jay Gatsby who is someone who believes in the past of his life instead of the truths that appear right in front of his eyes. Throughout the story, Gatsby has in his head an image of the Daisy he loved years ago as an innocent, pretty, and rich young girl. In his past, this Daisy loved him back and even wanted to someday marry him but the present Daisy doesn t match up to his doting descriptions anymore. Thus to win his dream, Gatsby did almost everything for Daisy to notice him; like when he, ...bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay (4.151). Gatsby becomes so blinded by the past and a bundle of what if s that he forgets to remember that whatever the past was to him is gone now. This is not a good belief to have because living in the past can make a person not believe in the reality of the situation and instead trust in their own

If so, then The Office is just the right show for you. The Office, first airing in 2005, is a comedy about employees at Dunder Mifflin, the local paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This TV show is meant to mock a reality TV show about the daily lives of those who work in an office selling high quality paper. Cast of The Office; Rotten Tomatoes; https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_office /pictures/ This nine season show stars Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer. Popular characters include: Michael Scott, Branch Manager; Jim Halpert, paper salesman and prankster; Pam Beasley, receptionist; and Dwight Schrute, paper salesman and beat farmer. These characters, along with the many others, experience trauma in the office, love triangles, and the common nuisance of Michael Scott. After he left, I did not find the show as humorous as it was when he was present. Although Andy Barnard was a great character, his humor did not come even close the level of Michael s. Having Michael Scott leave the show was a smart move for the expansion of the show; however, the show lost significant ratings due to this move. The second element that I did not enjoy was Karen. Truthfully, she was a very annoying, self centered character that was a waste of time for everyone. Luckily, she did not appear on the show for long a season at the most so it did not harm the

Choosing The Best Court For This Lawsuit For Funny Faces Determining the best court for this lawsuit for Funny Faces Donald Margolin should first consider the following his personal jurisdiction, subject matter jurisdiction, and his minimum contact. Personal jurisdiction deals with the power, the power the court s has over the parties involved in a certain case. It applies to this certain case because Margolin is suing for his rights because his face turned blue after using Funny Faces after shave cream. On the other hand subject matter jurisdictionis the courts power to hear a certain case. This basically determines what courts will be involved in what case. The importance of subject matter jurisdiction is crucial in this case because Donald Margolin is trying to get his case heard by the right court in order for justice to be served. Margolin doesn t want to have a lack of subject matter jurisdiction which can cause his case to be dismissed. Margolin case may fall under one of the three jurisdictions which are exclusive federal jurisdiction, state jurisdiction, and concurrent jurisdiction. Advertisements use many forms of persuasion to get people to buy their product. One of these is pathos, which appeals to the emotions of the audience and evokes their feelings. In the Honda commercial, one can see sheep in the pasture singing to Somebody to Love after the farmer drives off in his new Honda Ridgeline. • 22. Semiotics In Romeo And Juliet This essay will pose as a semiotic analysis of a famous quote from Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Semiotics are commonly used in daily life, but often go unnoticed. Many quotes that are used by business professionals are quotes from famous writers such as Shakespeare. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the phrase Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall. Resonated with me and is the phrase that I chose to analyze in this essay. The words and ideas that are signs in the quote are wisely, slowly, rush, stumble and fall. These words are signs in the quote because each wordpossesses an underlying meaning. In this essay, a semiotic analysis of the phrase from Romeo and Juliet will be provided as it relates to business professionals and what the phrase signifies when used in that context. Shakespeare suggests that wisely in this context signifies making smart, mature decisions in any given situation because each decision that is made can excel or hinder future endeavors. The pros and cons should be weighed before committing, in order to make a sound decision. Without proper information and guidance, one is essentially ignorant to the task at hand. For example, a mentor may be necessary because they may have accomplished a goal that you are aiming towards and can give advice on what you should and shouldn t do while trying to reach your goal. Furthermore, the word slowly signifies taking your time to accomplish tasks and goals. It takes a great amount of patience to see how things done now will pay off overall. Great things aren t accomplished overnight. From a business standpoint, it means that you must work your way to the top. The process may seem slow, but the progress is in constant evolution in preparation for the outcome. There is a stigma that has been placed upon individuals by society that to be successful, things must be accomplished quickly and if they aren t, then it equates to a lessened sense of success in some cases. Additionally, the word rush is a sign that signifies how sometimes as human beings with our longing for instant gratification, we tend to want to speed up the process without a second thought. People tend to rush the process of life to attain temporary happiness which

Dubner, it talks about dealing with societal mores, economic incentives, and cheating. With schoolteachers, the possibility of getting a pay raise and the grades their students get on standardized tests are some of the incentives that derive them to cheat. In the book, Levitt explains how he examines sets of answers to these tests and tries to see a pattern if teachers were changing answers for their students. Dubner and Levitt, both incorporate samples of these scored tests and have the readers try and find the cheating detected on there. Teacher cheating is rarely looked for, hardly ever detected, and just about never punished. (Levitt and Dubner 24) The incentives for teachers are to be more recognized and a chance to get a better pay while, for sumo wrestlers, they can move up a rank. The only difference is that for sumo wrestlers, they never got caught because in Japan, they assume they are always telling the truth and never lying, while for teachers, some lost their jobs because they were caught. Recent studies in the United States reported the diagnosis of an ASD in 1 out of 91 children of between age three to seventeen years (Kogan et al., 2009) and 1 out of 110 children age eight years (Rice, Baio, Van, Doernberg, Meaney Kirby, 2007). Idro, Newton, Kiguli and Mwesige, (2010) found the prevalence of mental handicap, severe developmental /cognitive delay or regress in East Africa to be 17.0% while general behaviour problems was 3.9%. Jarbrink and Knapp (2001) note that ASDs requires management throughout an individual s life, with no specific cure; this results in high costs of interventions. This presents specific sets of challenges to caregivers especially in resource strained settings. Several studies have shown that parents of children with developmental disabilities experience heightened stress (Blacher, 1984; Schieve, Blumberg, Rice, Visser and Boyle, 2007), impaired mental health (Weiss, 1991), a sense of devaluation and self blame (Holroyd, Brown, Wikler Simmons, 1975), and impaired physical functioning, tiredness and exhaustion (Hedov, Anneren Wikblad, 2000; Emerson, 2003). Specific definitions, freedoms, and limitations of fighting words vary by jurisdiction. It is also used in a general sense of words that when uttered tend to create a verbal or physical confrontation by their mere usage. In Canada, freedom of speech is generally protected under Section 2 of Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Criminal Code of Canada, however, limits these freedoms and provides for several forms of punishable hate speech. The form of punishable hate speech considered to encompass fighting words is identified in Section 319: In the United States the fighting words doctrine, in United States constitutional ... City of St. Paul, the Court overturned a statute prohibiting speech or symbolic expression that arouses anger, alarm or resentment in others on the basis of race, color, creed, religion or gender on the grounds that, even if the specific statute was limited to fighting words, it was unconstitutionally content based and viewpoint based because of the limitation to race /religion /sex based fighting words. The Court, however, made it repeatedly clear that the City could have pursued any number of other avenues, and reaffirmed the notion that fighting words could be properly regulated by municipal or state governments. In Snyder v. Phelps, dissenting Justice Samuel Alito likened the protests of the Westboro Baptist Church members to fighting words and of a personal character, and thus not protected speech. The majority disagreed and stated that the protester s speech was not personal but public, and that local laws which can shield funeral attendees from protesters are adequate for protecting those in times of emotional
  • 28. Extent Primate Analysis 1.Introduction: Extent Primates provide great insight as analogies into facilitating an understanding of how tool use, culture and cognition developed in the early hominid lineage. Archaeologists interpret primate behaviors and social structures as a means of investigating the evolution of hominin technology. This process will be briefly outlined as well as a number of the benefits and disadvantages presented when using extant primates as analogies in this way. An analogy creates a comparison between two subjects through likening and contrasting aspects about them. Thus looking into extant primate tool usage, one can gain insight into possible early hominin tool usage. This, as they can provide, to a certain extent, a living interpretation ... Here, their finger proportions inhibit easy coordination between the index finger and thumb (Wong, 2004). This is significantly different to that of hominids who have hands and thumbs which are very effective and allow for precise knapping and control over hammer stones. This illustrates that their differences in physical characteristics lead to distinctly different behaviors that cannot be considered the

In the case of Picasso s painting Guernica, art informs, educates and expresses. Its power lies in its ability to capture and compel an audience nearly six decades after the modern world s other day of infamy. To understand fully the painting that evolved out of the Spanish painter s outrage, one must know its context. Why do you think I date everything I do? Because it is not sufficient to know an artist s works it is also necessary to know when he did them, why, under what circumstances (Picasso). Given that the intent was only to hit the bridge, Von Richthofen would have used his Stuka dive bombers, capable of carrying a single bomb weighing 1,000 pounds. Equipped with the latest bomb sights, a Stuka had a high chance of taking out the bridge with one direct hit. Even a near miss would have made a powerful shock wave that, if it did not cause the bridge the bridge to collapse, would doubtless have made it unsafe for traffic (Gordon, Morgan 1975). The Condor Legion had had many successful missions to prove their accuracy. For example, they succeeded in dropping provisions squarely into the courtyard of the besieged Nationalist city of Alcazar. For the Guernica mission the Condor Legion was equipped with airplanes consisting of three German types, Junkers and Heinkel bombers and Heinkel fighters which were loaded with 3,ooo pounds of bombs weighing up to 550 pounds each along with more than 3,ooo two pounder aluminum incendiary projectiles (Fisch 1983). The American President -a movie review Essay example The American President a movie review The American President is a romantic comedy that takes place in the White House during primary season. The president is hoping to be reelected and to pass two bills, one on gun control and one on fuel restrictions. During this movie, the president meets Sydney, a lobbyist, and goes out with her, and because of this he takes a hit on his ratings. The American President shows many different themes covered in politics and government 101, these themes are the rolls of the media, polls, primaries and elections, and the process of introducing a bill to congress. The president then took a major hit in the polls. The president s staff relied on public opinion polls a lot throughout the quot;Sydney conflict. quot; A fair amount of the criticism of Sydney came from the fact that she is a lobbyist for a special interest group, the GDC (or Global Defense Committee). A good depiction of the interaction between the president and interest groups was seen in The American President. In this movie a special interest group, the GDC, sent a lobbyist, Sydney, to get a bill introduced into the senate. The process they went through, convincing the president to introduce the bill if they got enough support from congressmen and then seeing them gain support from the congressmen, was very informative. This movie also helped set a complete picture of the way the president works in the political system. Two relationships were alluded to in The American President but not directly confronted, one was between the president and congress, and the other was between the president and his staff. In this movie the president was shown making deals with senators and fighting for their approval on certain subjects. He was also seen seeking help from his advisors, not listening to advice from his advisors, and this movie showed how much the President depended on his staff. The way that the President lent on his staff was quite humanizing. This in turn opened the door for a

Linguistic Relativity Essay Introduction: Linguistic relativity is the notion that language can affect our thought processes, and is often referred to as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis , after the two linguists who brought the idea into the spotlight. Whorf writes how Language is not merely a reproducing instrument for voicing ideas but rather is itself the shaper of ideas, the program and guide for the individual s mental activity (1956:212), and I will explain how it is able to do so. In this essay I will argue that certain ways of mental categorization, spatial cognition and reality interpretation, based on the characteristics of our specific variety of language, influence our perception of the world. The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the grammatical structure of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity, as both groups of children construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on the basis of their language specific categories, and not on the basis of some universal, conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor 1998:140 141). This suggests that the children from the two linguistic communities will partly see the world in a different way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions. Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different languages prioritise different qualities. What this means is that when we say something belongs to a certain set, e.g. that putting toys into a container falls into an in group, we are focussing on some, but neglecting other details of the situation, such as the tightness of the fit. Extensive efforts are being taken to find the high no. of users that CDMA based systems can support while maintaining the desired quality of service for everyone [3], [4]. But these are more useful for preliminary capacity approximation and network planning purposes. There have been a measurement studies on 3G networks but are mainly focused on the performance of pure data traffic under lightly loaded or controlled environments [9]. Another study [14] was done which separately measured the voice and data call capacities of an experimental 3G network. However, the measurements were conducted in a fully controlled environment, where the network configuration consisted of only one cell, with the admission control disabled. The study describes the performance of live 3G networks under saturated conditions by usage of data, video, and voice traffic. Field measurements were conducted on three commercial 3G networks in Hong Kong with the

In relation to women, she discusses that a modest woman is one that puts time into intellectual pursuits rather than sexual ones. She states A woman who has dedicated much of her time to purely intellectual pursuits, and whose affections have been exercised by humane plans of usefulness, must as a natural consequence have more purity of mind than the ignorant beings whose time and thoughts have been occupied by gay

The heart rate is able to increase automatically by chemical hormones, the hormones are adrenaline and noradrenaline. These hormones are found inside the brain. The reason the heartrate increase before exercise is because it prepares the muscles for exercise, the reason it prepares the muscles for exercise is because by the heart rate increase the more oxygen is getting to the muscles there fore they will not be needing a such a large oxygen supply all at once. Smulka uses mason jars, vintage seltzer bottles, wine decanters, vases and water pitchers to capture the way light bends, refracts, illuminates, and distorts its surroundings. In some of the paintings, backgrounds of looming clouds and ridged tree bark are as in focus as the glass containers in the foreground, merging the two in a poetic, scrupulously accurate, yet slightly unreal manner. In other paintings, bottles in columns two, three, or four deep create multiple layers of transparency that make for almost abstract studies of light and color. In Steve Smulka s closely observed, meditative paintings, these densely luminous layers give weight to the
