4. Influenza Vaccines And The Flu Vaccine
Influenza Vaccines
Summary
This paper explores published works related to patients who received the flu
vaccine who were sixty five years and older. The evaluated articles examine the
effectiveness the flu vaccine had on the patient population of sixty five years and
older in relation to avoiding the flu and pneumonia diseases and hospitalizations, in
this group of patients. It has been conceded for years that senior adults age sixty five
and older are at greater risk from an influenza illness and pneumonia than a vigorous
young adult. It has been projected that between 71 percent and 85 percent of seasonal
flu related loss of life have happened in people sixty five years and older and between

Qualitative and Quantitative Studies
In patients sixty five years and older how does the use of an influenza vaccine
contrasted to not obtaining the vaccine reduce their chance of acquiring pneumonia
during the flu season? In 2005, pneumococcal disease and influenza were the eighth
leading cause of death in the United States and the primary cause of infection related
mortality for all age groups (Assaad, El Masri, Porhayman, El Sohl, 2012, p. 453).
Vaccinationfor influenza is widely identifiable as one of the most efficient and cost
effective public health interventions. (Wheelock, Thomson, Sevdalis, 2013, p. 893).
Approximately 90% of deaths caused by these illnesses occur among adults sixty
five years of age or older. It is hypothesized that the impairment to the airway
epithelial lining triggered by influenza fosters bacterial growth, and that in turn
bacterium derived proteases boost virus related virulence. There are several studies
that have been established that show vaccinating the population of older patients,
aged sixty five and older, has shown a decrease in developing pneumonia during flu
season. In a sizable study that included Swedish patients aged ≥ than 65 years old
showed that immunization with the flu vaccine resulted in a 29% decrease in the
occurrence of all cause pneumonia and a 35% drop in the death rate from all cause
pneumonia in the vaccine group. Moreover, patients who were admitted in the
hospital for influenza or

Children s Literature or Sexual Awakening? A Deconstruction of Goblin Market In
order to truly grasp the deconstruction interpretation of a text, one must do what is
known as a double reading. A first reading is used to identify what the reader
believes to be to main interpretation of the text. Then, during the second reading, the
reader identifies words, phrases, and other literary clues to undermine the original
interpretation. With Goblin Market, however, it may take a third, fourth, or even
fifth reading of the poem to thoroughly understand how many different ways the text
can be understood. One of the most popular ideas beliefs about Goblin Market is
that it is written as a piece of children s literature. During a first reading... Show more

8. George Washington Military Life Essay
The Military Life of George Washington
George Washington, a man of many military achievements, brought ragtag farmers to
military men, and destroyed the most powerful army in the world. Washington was
appointed the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army on June 14, 1775.
Washington, who had military experience before serving in the Continental Army, had
never commanded an army of this size. He was appointed leader of the Continental
Army because John Hancock, president of the Second Continental Congress, thought
of him as a man of great character who would help unite the colonies. Brilliant
character and leadership help George Washingtonwin battles over the British, and
make farmers into true military men.

Training the farmers was a hard task for George Washington since there is only one of
him and thousands of other farmers who did not know what to do. Also, the colonies
had a poor track record of working together effectively. During the Battle of Saratoga,
Ben Franklin created a military alliance with the French. The French in return sent
Marquis de Lafayette, a high ranking general in the French military, to meet with
George Washington. Lafayette was sent over to give the farmers supplies, and to help
train to become true military men. Training the farmers took a lot of hard work to get
them prepared for the war they were entering. An example of farmers being turned
into fighters to defeat the British Army occurred during the winter of Valley Forge.
The farmers were forced to overcome adversity such as disease, starvation, and lack of
warmth. They needed motivation which George Washington gave them. Washington
encouraged them that they have what it takes to defeat the greatest army in the
world. The only thing that Washington could not help with was the pain. Mind over
matter. A positive attitude can accomplish anything. Washington could not stress that
enough. Another way that the farmers became military men was their fight at the
Battle of Bunker Hill. They did significant damage to the British. giving them self
confidence and knowledge that
9. Brutus and his bad decisions and misfortunes
Brutus: A Tragic Hero The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare depicts
a tragic hero, or one who has high standing and causes his own downfall. The tragic
hero is Brutus, and he makes multiple and ultimately fatal mistakes that lead to his
enlightenment and then his death. Brutus death is the result of many misfortunes,
including being herded into the conspiracy and thus aiding in the death of Caesar,
hearing of the death of his loyal wife, and waging a war against Rome. Brutus
negative characteristics are his flawed reasoning and bad judgment. While still
planning Caesar s murder, Ciceros name is brought up and it is suggested that he be
included in the conspiracy. However, Brutus is against this thought, saying that...

And you shall speak/ in the same pulpit whereto I am going. / After my speech is
ended (945). This is a bad decision on his part because by allowing Antony to speak
last, he has allowed Antony to use his words against him. As seen in the text, it is
much easier to persuade when speaking last than when speaking first. After being
chased out of Rome alongside Cassius, another misfortune is his fight with him
over money problems. Brutus claims that Cassius has become greedy. He is
furious that Cassius is not helping him even though they are allies. However, the
money that Brutus wants is actually the money that Cassius is taking from the
soldiers who buy their ranks. While he could just as easily do the same, he defines
himself as too noble a person to do such a thing. Let me tell you, Cassius, you
yourself/ Are much condemned to have an itching palm (966). Cassius is offended,
and tells Brutus that he should be glad that they are allies. Brutus enlightenment
occurs around the time he commits suicide. Right before his demise, with his final
dying breath, he mentions Caesar to put him at ease. Farewell, good Strato Caesar,
now be still; / I killed thee with half so good a will (997). There are many opinions
as to what kind of character Brutus is. He seems to be a sympathetic character above
all else. Impatient of my absence, / And grief that young Octavius with Mark Antony/

American Dream or African American American Nightmare
The Declaration of Independence was written so Americans could achieve this dream,
but the African slave was never intended to be a part of this American Dream. To the
African American, there were and still are many restrictions that go along with the
American Dream.
In Toni Morrison s novel, Song of Solomon, Macon Dead craved for the American
Dream. He was in denial and believed that he could be just as successful as the white
man. Macon desired to own everything, including people. Macon tells Milkman the
following:

Was this old woman, Circe, real or part of one of Milkman s dreams/nightmares?
Could Macon s grandfather really fly?:
He was flying. He flew. You know, like a bird. Just stood up in the fields one day, ran
up some hill, spun around a couple of times, and was lifted up in the air. Went right
on back to wherever it was he came from (323).
Was Ruth, Milkman s mother, almost swallowed up by her garden plants as Milkman
watched from the kitchen window?:
They were smothering her, taking away her breath with their soft jagged lips. And
she merely smiled and fought them off as though they were harmless butterflies (105).
It really does not matter because dreams become reality and vice versa in Milkman s
world.
The dream of the women in Song of Solomon was to find a man or husband to take
care of them. Ruth thought that by marrying a man with Macon s status, money and
ownership of property, she would live the perfect fairytale life. This dream turns into
a nightmare as Macon either ignores her or raises a hand to strike her. This unhappy
12. The Importance Of Television Monitoring
Television Monitoring I understand that not all society s ills are caused by television,
any more than they can be solved by television (Tracey). Some people think that
networks should control harmful television content, while others think it is up to the
parents. The previous quote is written by Michael Tracey, who wrote one side of the
argument, Networks Should Take Responsibility for Harmful Television Content .
Tracey believes that major network affiliate stations should ban harmful television
content because of negative ideas being placed on children. The other side of the
argument, Parents Should Take Responsibility for Harmful Television Content is
written by Adam Thierer, who argues that it is the parent s responsibility to censor
what their children are watching. Thierer had the stronger argument, saying parents
should take control of television content. Each author had a role to explain to readers
why their argument was the right one. Tracey argues that networks should be
responsible for harmful television content. He tried to explain to readers that
networks were displaying content that is harmful to children, and that it could affect
the rest of their lives. Why wait for the regulators? Why not establish voluntary
restrictions on what advertising is aimed, through your station, at young children
(Tracey)? This shows how Tracey is trying to reach out to parents and networks to
explain how they are negatively affecting children. Thierer, on the other

16. The Legend Of Jack The Ripper
England has always been known for their elevated culture and afternoons fit for tea,
but in the small town of Whitechapel, London around 1888 this was not the case.
Poverty played a big role during this time period and mothers of small families had
to prostitutes themselves in order to provide meals for their families. Between
August and November of 1888, a notorious murderer rose to the surface, slaughtering
at least five women escorts. The legend of Jack the Ripperis one of the most famous,
yet unsolved mysteries of English crime.
I.Suspected Murder Victims August 31, 1888, was the first killing, Mary Ann
Nichols was found dead on the side of a street at four o clock in the morning. She
had been dead for approximately 20 minutes, her throat had been slit, her abdomen
mutilated with one deep jagged wound, several incisions across the abdomen, and
three or four similar cuts on the right side caused by the same knife at least 6 8
inches long used violently and downwards. There seemed to be surprise at the small
amount of blood at the crime scene, about enough to fill two large wine glasses, or
half a pint at the most (Llewellyn). This comment led to the suspicion that Nichols
was not killed where her body was found, but the blood from her wounds had soaked
into her clothes and hair, and there was little doubt that she had been killed at the
crime scene by a swift slash to the throat. Death would have been instantaneous, and
the abdominal injuries, which would have
17. Differences Between The Wallaby And Eukaryony In
Kingdom...
Do you know about the wallaby? The Wallaby is an animal that looks like a
kangaroo. Though they have many similarities with the kangaroo, they are slightly
different from the kangaroo. Most common way to distinguish the difference
between the wallaby and kangaroo is their size. The Wallaby is much smaller than
the kangaroo. Their heights are about 30 to 180 and they weight about 20kg. They
can run up to 48kms per hour and live from 12 to 15 years. (Anonymous, no date)
The Wallaby belongs in Kingdom Animalia. (N, P, et al, 2015) Kingdom Animalia
s animals are eukaryotic. This means the cells have membrane around the nucleus.
The Wallaby is also heterotrophic, so must eat something. The Wallaby is a
herbivore, so it eats plants or fruits. (No author, no date) The Wallaby is mobile, so
it can move freely. The Wallaby has many cells because it is multicellular and the
cells have to live together unlike colonial organisms. Wallabies do sexual
reproduction, which means they need two DNAs (father s DNA and mother s DNA)
to make a baby. Because of these attributes, the wallaby is in Kingdom Animalia....

18. Charles Berger s Uncertainty Reduction Theory
Review
Communication is a vast subject that incompasses quite a number of theories. In
conducting this theoretical review I chose to focus on the theory of Uncertainty
Reduction. This theory was developed in 1975 by American professor Charles
Berger and His associate Richard Calabrese. Uncertainty Reduction Theory is based
on communications impact on the social interaction between individuals that do not
know each other and how that first interaction is used to gain information to reduce
uncertainty amongst each other in order to be able to communicate freely and
develop a relationship. Uncertainty Reduction theory states that, the primary goal of a
person when initializing an interaction is to increase their ability to predict and
explain the other individuals behavioral choices. In other words people seek to gain
information about an individual in order to feel comfortable enough to start
communicating. An individual does this by gaining information about the other
person through asking questions, using visual cues, body language, and even
overhearing conversations. Anything that gives them a peek or an idea into who that
person is any bit of information that helps reduce the uncertainty between individuals
is key in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has had a huge impact on the study of interpersonal communication and many other
communication fields. Yet it does have its criticisms. Many state that the assumptions
made by the theory are too broad making it easy to be disproven. An example is that
many scholars do not contribute uncertainty reduction the main motivating factor in
initiating conversation. Also the demographics of the people observed in the studying
of this theory was very limited, mostly only white middle class individuals, making it
difficult to apply to all interactions between all individuals. These factors all
contribute in weakening the theory in the eyes of most scholars. (communication

19. Abraham Lincoln s Gettysburg Address
A speech giving by Abraham Lincoln called Gettysburg Address after the war in
Gettysburg had ended, affected others passionately. In the time period of when this
speech was given, people didn t realize that all men are equal. Men, young men, too,
were at war not understanding why we had a war. Men lost their lives because they
were committed to fighting in this war. They should not have passed just because
they were protecting their home. Ultimately, Lincoln tried to change his listeners
minds about the idea that all men are equal by wanting to let others know that men
are equal, and should be treated equal, no matter the skin, what they re worth, giving
their life for dedication, or how rich they were.
The men who passed away should be treated the same as the men who are living.
Men who had passed should get a proper burial. Based on the speech Lincoln
states., We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for
those who here gave their lives that that nation might live (2). Lincoln is trying to
tell the reader that the field that they battled on will be remembered for the men
who passed away in war. He says that the ones who gave their lives, is the reason the
nation might live on and that they deserve respect. No matter if the guys are alive or
gone, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the war, it s wrong to Lincoln for others to come onto our land and kill us, but

thought it was wrong for men to go to war and die for no specific reason. He
realized the war was wrong, and he wanted to let us know that it should be stopped.
Lincoln is trying to showtell the reader that the men who passed should not have
died for no reason. This means that if the men who are alive are okay, the ones who

20. What Are The Effects Of Wolf Reintroduction
In 1995 the gray wolf (Canis lupus) was reintroduced into Yellowstone National
Park. The park had been without resident wolves for 70 years prior, when they
were killed off in the 1930 s. This meant that in those 70 years there was no research
on the effects of wolves on the park s ecosystem. In the decades since the
reintroduction, research has been able to proceed and has found some amazing
results. Not only did the reintroduction of wolvesimpact animal life, but it also had an
impact on plant life. In the past it was thought that an ecosystem was built from the
bottom up... with plant life as the basis from which everything grew. Almost all
conservation and reintroduction efforts were based on this idea. (Mission: Wolf

21. Spider Monkeys
One of the prevailing theories about why primates have such good color vision is
that it allowed them to pick out fruits against the green backgrounds of forests and
jungles (Osorio et al., 2004). New World monkey color vision is an evolutionary
puzzle because the same evolutionary pressures for finding food should act similarly
on both sexes.
According to van Roosmalen (1985), it is a hypothesized that dominant female
spider monkeys lead the group to food sources, suggesting why there may be a
difference in these animals due to their ecology. As there is only one study to date
about spider monkey color vision and it was based on one male and one female
monkey, this study will add to our knowledge about whether spider monkeys have
similar
22. Indians Vs Colonists
The biggest problem Indians and colonists had were the different points of view they
had of each other. In the compilation of primary documents written by European
colonists and Native Americans (National Humanities Center), we can find several
different quotations of the many different positive and negative viewpoints Indians
and colonists had of on another. Indians were simply people living on this earth as
well as the colonist, obviously due to background and culture, they had their
differences but it all comes down to the kind of person you are and what can you
provide to humanity.
The colonists came from a total different culture compared to the Indians. They had
different ways of living, different foods and clothing. For a settler to
23. Bunker Hill Essay
1775 the battle of bunker hill Bunker Hill, was the bloodiest battle of the
Revolutionary war in america, states the World Book. More than 1,000 British
Soldiers and about 400 American colonist were killed or wounded. (pg. 699) This
paper is about the British defeating the Americans at Bunker Hill. It will show the
causes, the leaders, the events, and the effects of the battle. Why did they even
started fighting? The british fought the colonist for Bunker Hill, even though the
british already had Breed s hill. The british wanted Bunker Hill because it was
close to the Boston Harbor. The british wanted all the major spot. The colonist
didn t have a lot of ammunition so prescott said Don t fire until you see the whites
in their eyes. So the lost 400 men (dead or wounded) and lost cause the ran out of
ammunition. The major general in the war was, Major General Howe was fighting
against General Artemas Ward and General Isral Putnam Artemas. General William
Howe was on the british side on the battle of bunker hill. Him and 2,400 troops went

24. Wedding Is A Cultural Manifestation Of Marriage
Weddings are a cultural manifestation of marriage. Lebanese marriages are directly
related to their religious sectors and geographical placements. For example, a
Christian Catholic couple will get married in a Catholic church and a Muslim Sunni
couple will get married at the Sunni Islamic court. In this article, I will elucidate the
basic rituals of the traditional Lebanese Islamic weddingin Beirut. Then, I will expose
socio cultural burdens in this event within the Durkheimian sociologyand

Those rituals are long standing traditions to enhance the union between the two
families.
Kateb Kitab is the legal marriage contract conducted in the Islamic court. It is
completed in the presence of the sheikh (Islamic judge), two witnesses, the bride,
and the groom. Before going to the Islamic court, the two families will meet to
confirm the conditions of the marriage contract. It is essential to abide by the
Islamic law (sharia) where the groom provides culturally listed expensive presents
to the bride called Mahr . Mahr is composed of two large parts. The first part should
be given before the actual legal marriage. This money is for the bride to buy
outfits, jewelry, and ornaments. The second part is usually weighted in 8g gold
lira coins. This is a debt on the husband to repay during his marriage. Sometimes
the amount can reach up to 500 golden lira coins. A large amount of money from
the Mahr increases the value of the bride. It s socially acknowledged that paying
the Mahr will be a huge investment for the groom. This will make him think twice
before divorcing the bride. After the settlement is approved between the two parties,
the written marriage contract is signed. They become legally and spiritually bound
as husband and wife. This step is a critical point in the marriage. The family of the

25. Revolutions of 1848
The Revolutions of 1848 were a series of political and economic revolts that took
place in Europe because of a recession and abuse of political power. Although changes
were made all throughout Europe, the original, oppressive government took back
control soon after, undoing the work of the revolutionaries. Although these changes
didn t last long, the revolutions did prove to both the governments and
revolutionaries that the people had the power to undermine the government in order
to bring about reform and create the policies of socialism and liberalism.
There was a pattern, or cycle that was evident throughout these revolutions. This cycle
had four distinctive stages: First, the workers, university students, and other
revolutionaries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the summer of 1849, a Roman republic crated by Giuseppe Mazzini and Giuseppe
Garibaldi collapsed, and the Austrian forces took back control of Venice.
In Italy, the Napoleonic Era awakened liberalism and nationalism. Many Italians
longed for an Italy unified under a republican constitution. This movement was led
by Giuseppe Mazzini, who, in 1832, started Young Italy, which was a patriotic
society that advocated and was ready to fight for the unification of Italy if
necessary. In 1848, revolts broke out in several Italian states. These revolts forced
the leaders to establish the constitutions of the revolutionaries. In Sardinia, King
Charles Albert was one who voluntarily granted a new constitution to his people.
However, these strides in progress were soon crushed and repressed when in came
the Austrian army. Charles tried to drive the Austrians out of north Italy, but was
defeated at Custoza in 1848 and Novara in 1849 and was abdicated. Revolutions
elsewhere were suppressed, including one in Rome, where Mazzini had formed a
short lived republic. The movement for the unification of Italy was temporarily shut
off until 1859.
The wave of revolt also swept across the states of the German Confederation. In the
spring of 1848, riots broke out as German people sought freedom from their
repressive rulers. The Prussian king, Frederick William IV, was forced to agree to a
democratic constitution and to support the unification of German states when the
26. Stereotyping In Film
There are over 1,100 films that in one way or another vilify Arabs and Muslims not to
mention other minorities such as African Americans, Jews, LGBTQs, Latinos, Asians
and Native Americans (Baird). Movies and shows stereotype Arabs and Muslims,
which often times cause hatred and discrimination towards certain races and
religions. Stereotyping in movies and shows cause bias discrimination towards
minorities, which lead to terrible consequences. Even though movies and shows are
mainly fictional and mainly used just for entertainment, these forms of media lead to
discriminations such as Islamophobia because they vilify Arabs and Muslims

There are numerous examples of shows, similar to 24, that suggest that all Arabs are
dangerous and the only way to take them down is by force. There are more than 50
TV shows that have implied that Arab and Muslim Americans are waging holy wars
against our country. These shows have told millions of viewers that Arabs and
Muslims run shadowy terrorist sleeper cells inside Mosques and Shacks, from Los
Angeles to Washington (Shaheen). Shows which are presenting Arab and Muslims
Americans as untrustworthy can lead individuals to conclude that Arabs and Muslims
living in America and other places around the world should not be trusted, even in a
place of worship. Furthermore, there are shows on television that legitimize killing
innocent people by representing that the Middle East is consumed with dangerous
people and no one should be trusted. Now in its sixth season, 24 has super agent

To a great extent Egypt s relations changed with foreign powers from the eighteenth
to the nineteenth dynasties as Egyptian pharaohs adopted policies of diplomacy or
military conquest. During the reign of Amenhotep III Egypt s relations with foreign
powers continued to be focused on diplomacy rather than military conflict as
Amenhotep sort to maintain peace and prosperity throughout the region. With the
accession of Akhenatento the throne, Egypts relations with foreign powers and its

The battle of Kadesh was the climax of hostilities between Egypt and Hittite,
however, the battle served as the end of Egyptian expansionism in Syria Palestine. In
year twenty one of Ramesses reign peace was achieved between Egypt and Hittite as
evident from inscriptions at the Ramesseum, the Hypostyle Hall at Karnak and a
Hittite tablet at its capital, Hattusas. In contrast to the early part of Ramesses reign,
the quotation reflects the peace and prosperity experienced by both Egypt and Hittite
during this period and the stability that continued throughout the reign of Ramesses.
The treaty led to a formation of an alliance, a mutual defence pact and a promise of

removal of barriers to the Euphrates brought renewed trading opportunities.
Diplomacy and marriages where used to maintain friendly relations between the two

from letters is that in year thirty four of his reign Ramesses married a Hittite princess
to strengthen Egypt Hittite relations. This was followed by another marriage to

In 1966, Richard M. Schulze and Gary Smoliak founded the Sound of Music store
which sold home and car stereo equipment in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The company
had over $1 million in revenue and made about $58,000 in profits in its first year; it
had three stores in Minnesota and became a publicly held company after 3 years.
In 1970, Richard solely owned the company since he bought out the stakes of his
partner. Later, he realized that the market was heading to saturation and the number
of his target customers was decreasing day by day. In 1983, Richard made a decision
of renaming the company as Best Buy Co., Inc. to make the store more appealing to
the customers. It was also rebranded by putting more emphasis on consumer

what was our biggest regatta of the season. Unfortunately, our boat came in dead

one of the veterans. Having only a few months of rowing experience, I assumed his
yelling at us was directed at me and my novice teammates. The scenario of
confronting him was running through my head. By the time we stacked the boat back
on the trailer, the thoughts myriad of thoughts through my mind were spoken. I
spoke in a tone that my teammates have never seen before. I even surprised myself
with how I stood up and defended myself and the other newer members.

30. How Baking Changed Over Time
Cake traditions, uses, events, and occasions have changed so much over time. Cakes
were first used as decorations by rich people, then they slowly became a dessert. It
wasn t till later, after this that they became the main dish in many special occasions
including birthdays and weddings, and shortly after that bakingcakesbecame a
competition. In the 1840s there was an important development in the kitchen and
cooking technology: the temperature controlled oven. This, of course, made baking
more pleasant and convenient. During this period, cakebaking became easier and thus
more popular (Gauttier, n.d.). Cakes became more than decorations when the
temperature controlled oven and other inventions came into the baking world. The

Now, thanks to all the previously mentioned inventions, everyone and anyone can
make cakes because the materials that are needed to bake a cake are easier to get.
The specific invention of the cake pan made a big change in the cake industry by
introducing different shapes and sizes of cakes. Back in the day, there were round
cakes and if you really wanted to be daring, square cakes (Anderson, 2015). Cakes
used to be plain and simple from taste to look, but shortly after the invention of the
cake pans, cakes started to take a different spin. The cake pan introduced cartoon
character shapes and modern shapes including Winnie the Pooh, Spongebob,
rectangles, and hearts. The word about cakes becoming more creative didn t take
long to spread before everyone was trying the new cake pans. Today, some bakers
are even talented enough to sculpt a cake into realistic objects like Christmas trees,
shoes, cars, and even scenes. They do this by slowly cutting off pieces of cake to
resemble the shape of the item or object that they want. The new coming of different
cake shapes and sizes started the evolution of cakes. Shortly after the cake pans came
along, piping tips and piping bags were

The London Pride parade today is the largest of its kind in the country. If you donated

were presented with a ribbon wristband with SUPPORTER emblazoned on it. The
volunteers holding the donation buckets would inform you that if you didn t
donate, there might not even be a pride the next year, and this was the only free
Pride in the country (this is untrue). However, Pride in London has come a long
way since the first event billed as a pride march in 1972, and is now heavily
subsidised by corporate sponsors. We ve now reached a place where the official
Pride in London souvenir magazine can declare that in the UK today, LGBT+ people
have full legal equality under the law , and approximately a million people flock to
the capital each year to see the Pride march. Many are now left to wonder whether
London Pride once a militant demonstration in commemoration of the Stonewall riots
has become a corporate sponsored event far removed from any challenge to the
ongoing injustices that we [the LGBT community] face . The fact that the
wristband given to those who donate declares them to be supporters shouldn t be
overlooked. The Oxford English Dictionary defines a supporter as a person who
approves of and encourages a public figure, political party, policy, etc , which implies
that the wearer is not, in fact, a part of Pride. The concept of allyship is one of great
discourse in the social
32. Elias In The Known World
Elias, Henry Townsend s slave, is the most symbolic and significant minor character
in the entirety of The Known World; in a novel depicting a tragic and oppressive
world, Elias is the vessel through which Jones expresses the humanity of the countless
slaves he describes. We are given an intimate account of a man s struggle with
insurmountable authority, of a turbulent courtship, and of numerous instances of
devastating loss. Yet strangely, after granting Elias such significance and placing him
among the characters in the forefront of the reader s attention within the first four
chapters of the novel, Jones largely strips him of his standing and his character space
is reduced to a minimum in the later half of the narrative. Jones attempts to... Show

Upon Henry s death, Moses must inform a slew of slaves that their master has
passed and he informs all but one. Ironically, in an attempt to force Elias out of the
narrative, Moses gives Elias the opportunity to stand out to the reader; upon
hearing of his master s death, Elias jokes, you stick a needle in him to make sure
(Jones 58)? The other slaves somber, monotone mood contrasts sharply with Elias s
uncaring and indignant attitude: the death of his master was no more than the
death of a fly in a foreign place he never even heard of (Jones 60). Elias s
appearance on the narrative stage comes after the lengthy chapter devoted to
Henry s early life; his significance is tied to the bitterness he demonstrates toward
Henry and serves as a reminder that Henry, who had been an innocent little boy
mere pages ago, becomes a slave owner. This significance is amplified when Elias
decides to run away. Jones begins this section with an inner monologue by Elias
describing the finished doll he made for his daughter. Again Elias has the reader s
undivided attention and sympathy, as his intentions are undoubtedly pure; all Elias
desires in the known world is freedom for himself and his family. When William
Robbins catches him, he is continually defiant: Then he took two quick steps toward
Robbins, thinking that if he killed the white man, there was no witness except the
horse (Jones 81). Elias is caught in a hopeless state of oppression; when he is given a
character space worthy of a major character, his superiors immediately punish him
and reduce him to an inconsequential
33. The Dangers Of Residential Schools In Canada
80 Residential schools were developed and established all across Canada in 1931,
and slowly over the years, about 150 000 First Nation students attend the different
schools. This happened because many believed that education was one of the biggest
factors to assimilation, and so the Canadian Parliament changed the Indian Act
requiring all children, ranging the ages of seven to fifteen to go to school . The
biggest concerns for the Indigenous at the time was that they had to trek thousands of
kilometres from home to the nearest school, unknown of the dangers these parents
were sending their children into. At these academic schools, English was stressed to
speak when interacting with others while native tongue and language was banned ,
due to the fact, most of these schools were ran by churches. Also because these
schools were ran by these churches, Christian religion and ideals were emphasized,
while Aboriginal Spirituality and culture was condemned. These poor kids were
separated from everything they knew about growing up, and they just threw them
into a curriculum and material that is so very different from what they knew and
would get penalize from not understanding and would feel like they were an outsider.
And they would have to deal with this on the daily. And what made it worse was the
fact that many of these teachers were harsh and cruel towards these students, hurting
them physically, mentally or sexually, causing trauma they d never forget in their
lives. The
34. Comparing Wollstonecraft s Pride And Prejudice
The novel Pride and Prejudice was set during the late 1700 s and the early 1800 s.
Jane Austen wrote the novel based on the events that occurred around her.
Historical conflicts during the construction of the novel are present in the novel
itself. While writing Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen was influenced by the war
with France, the landed gentry, and marriage and gender roles in her society which
caused the plot, characters, and the outcome of the book. The war with France
stretched over twenty two years, and it affected every level of British society. A
quarter of a million men were serving in the regular army, a militia of officers and
volunteers in the southeast coast of England (where Jane was from) were convinced
that it was an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her writing, Wollstonecraft argues that women should be treated with the same
equals as men. This was a conflicting transformation in women s roles that occurred
within the century. Elizabeth Bennet can be considered as an example and a
supporter of the writing. Disinherited of her father s property, Elizabeth is not
financially independent, and depends upon advantageous marriage for her future
survival. Although throughout the novel she asserts her independence that reflects
some of Wollstonecraft s opinions and beliefs. An example would be when she
rejected to be married with Mr. Collins even though she was in need of the
financial support, as he was the one who was to inherit the family estate. However
Miss Elizabeth Bennet s friend did the exact opposite and married Mr. Collins
because she was already a burden to her parents and was afraid that she would
never be asked to marry again. Elizabeth also stood up to Mr. Darcy when he was
making remarks about the country even though he was at a much higher social status
than she was, and she was reminded of that by her
35. To What Extent Should the Strategic Decision-Making Be...
Stakeholders are individuals or groups who have an effect or are affected by the
activities of an organisation. The stakeholder approach means that the business
focuses on the needs of its main stakeholders. These can include the local community,
employees, customers and suppliers and can focus on environmental issues, regular
orders and security of employment. In contrast to this the shareholders approach
focuses on giving a good sized dividend to shareholders, which means the business
objectives would be based on getting more profit. When Dyson moved its
manufacturing to Malaysia to be closer to suppliers, it could be said that it was
adopting a shareholderapproach. The costs of production in the Far East would be
cheaper, as would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means making tough decisions and prioritising some groups above others which
could cause problems.
In conclusion, I think we should look again at Dyson s decision to move to
Malaysia. Although it seemed like James Dyson was using a shareholder approach
moving from the UK and causing many job losses, his success from this move
means the company has more profit to feed into the community s needs and it has
enabled him to create another 100 jobs in Britain not in manufacturing but in more
rewarding areas such as developing new products. In addition to this there is another,
more in direct advantage. As a result of the lower production costs, the company
pays more corporation tax which could be fed into hospitals or schools as well as
other things aiding the community in general.
I think focus purely on stakeholders would be a bad idea as it is such a long term
approach, unless the business had sufficient funds to keep it going until the
benefits could be gained, but it can be done as shown by OneWater who focus on
helping bring clean water to overseas countries. Similarly, a focus on shareholders
alone would not be the best strategy as it could give the company a bad image and
cause shareholders to sell up, lowering the share price as with BP in 2005 when an
explosion at their Texas oil refinery killed 15 people. Overall, I believe that a
company s strategic decision making should focus both on profit and stakeholder
needs as this will give the
36. Persuasive Essay On Climate Change Burdens
Climate change is a global challenge and will require global cooperation on how to
share the burdens of tackling this problem. Overwhelming evidence confirms that
anthropogenic climate change is, and will, have catastrophic consequences on
humanity and the planet humanity depends upon. Therefore rapid action is required.
Climate changeburdens consist of mitigation, adaptation and compensation, and
there needs to be agreement among states on how to fairly share these burdens. If
burdens are distributed based on fair and just principles, then states and individuals
will be more likely to comply with their duties. Consequently, normative theorising
is necessary to solve the burden sharing problem, which is a major obstacle to a
global climate change response. One such principle is if you broke it, you should
fix it , which can be approximated as the historical polluter pays principle. The
question of whether there is a better alternative to this implies questioning if there is
a more fair and just alternative burden sharing principle. Therefore, a method of
determining global justice ought to be used to establish which principle is the most
just response to allocating climate change burdens. This essay will evaluate the
polluter pays principle using an expanded Rawlsian method to determine which
principle would be selected behind a global veil of ignorance, based on the argument
that country of birth is morally arbitrary and represents a global undeserved
inequality. This

38. Biblical Criticism In In The Beginning By Chaim Potok
Chaim Potok s novel, In the Beginning follows David Lurie s scholarly journey as
he begins to study biblical criticism despite the opposition he faces from his
community and family, who consider biblical criticism an anti Semitic practice of
tearing apart the word of the Torah (Potok 1975, 372 374). Lurie s examination of
what critical biblical scholars have said about the Torah, gives a reflection, in
narrative form, of how academic study of the Biblecan be used to find appropriate
meaning within it. In Lurie s case, pursuing the study of biblical criticism was
necessary for him to gain a deeper understanding about the origins of the bible, its
text and what modern scientific perspectives argued about their application. In
doing so, he understood that he would be able to better address the deeper
questions and criticisms that targeted the teachings of Judaism, and which the
orthodox viewpoint of his community chose not to explore because of their values
regarding how to observe the bible. The point Potok makes with this novel applies
even when thinking of the Bible outside the context of Judaism. That critical study
of the Bible is necessary in order to look past the cherished ideas people hold about
what the biblical text say so that we may see the layers and ideas we are not taught, to
understand the authority of the Bible in cultural, historical and modern contexts and
to reveal the contradictions within the Bible so that conclusions can be made on how
we should
39. The Mock-Epic and Material Desire in Not All that...
Not all that glisters gold, Gray surmised in his poem, Ode on the Death of a
Favorite Cat. While the term is widely understood now as meaning that not
everything is precious, there is evidence to suggest that there is a more cautionary
tone which surrounds this saying. As Gray uses it to lament the death of Horace
Walpole s favorite cat, when the text is analyzed further, aspects of the mock epic
are revealed. However this usage of the mock epic is less humorous in tone and
more as a vehicle to warn readers of the tragedy that befalls them when they
mindlessly pursuit certain desires. Therefore, in Thomas Gray s Ode on the Death
of a Favorite Cat, Gray uses the style of mock epic along with a non human character
in order to depict how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gray furthers this idea by using the overly dramatic language of the mock epic to
depict the cat s tragic outcome. The theatrical portrayal of the cat Eight times
emerging from the flood references the loss of the cat s nine lives as well as
exaggerating the amount of water in the fishbowl as a flood. The language used in
Gray s poem can be compared to the language used in The Rape of the Lock. When
Belinda s hair is cut in Canto 3, Pope exaggerates the situation by comparing the
screams of horror to when husbands, or when lapdogs breathe their last. The poetic
amplification of relatively unimportant objects of desire, as well as trivial events is
one of the primary characteristics of the mock epic, and Gray s Ode on the Death
of a Favorite Cat uses this style and language extensively throughout. Another
feature of the mock epic is the use of a main protagonist with un heroic qualities.
Since the main protagonists in epic poems are usually heroes with a strong sense
of morals, intelligence and strength, the satirical aspect in mock epics come from
the protagonist s absence of these qualities. In Pope s The Rape of the Lock,
Belinda is depicted as a relatively fragile and shallow woman. In Canto 1, the Sylph
that whispers in her ear defines her as one with infant thought. In Canto 2, her
shallowness is displayed through her choice to adorn a sparkling cross, suggesting
40. Chimeras In Frankenstein
What is life?
In Mary Shelly s Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein creates his own living creature.
In today s world, the use of Chimeras, gene editing, and cloning are being
experimented more and more. Is this an example of man trying to take up God s
role as the Creator of life? The bible defines life as God breathed. It states that
humans are created in the image of God. Man was given dominion over the rest of
creation, not other humans. God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and
increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the
birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground (Genesis
1:28). The moral questions in Frankenstein relate to the use of chimeras, gene editing,
and cloning in today s world.
Chimeras
Chimeras are animal human hybrid embryos. This is the process of using Chimeras
to grow an organ or body part by putting human DNA into animal embryos. Victor

Interstellar is a film about a catastrophic event in which an excessive amount of dust
builds up in the earth s biosphere. The extreme air pollution causes major health
problems all over the world and environmental disasters. A new society arises
without any medical technology or scientific knowledge. Several aspects of this
newly reformed society classify it as dystopian such as : limited access to food,
government controlled career options, and restricted knowledge. Social commentary
is found in the recent phenomenon called global warming. The mass air pollutionand
destruction of food resources in Interstellar is directly related to the high amounts of
Co2 which causes the Earth to heat. Social Director Christopher Nolan and
cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, use camera angles and lighting to magnify
the chaos and social commentary in this dystopian society. The setting of Interstellar
takes place in America after a second dust bowl covers the Earth. Agriculture
becomes the only available career option to the majority of citizens due to the food

expressions of grief and loss (Kausar et al., 2011).
Islamic Beliefs and Assumptions about Death and Beyond
In the Islamic faith, there are distinct beliefs and rituals on death and bereavement.
Muslims define death as the point at which the soul leaves the body and the heart
stops (Salman, 2010). This means that death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Paradise is achieved when one has carried out good deeds, prayed, served their
community, and followed the Islamic principles (Salman, 2010).
Islamic Death Practices
As mentioned before, it is unlawful in the Islamic faith to prepare the processes for
an impending death before a complete death . A Muslimhas not reached death until
his or her last heart beat (Bedir Aksoy, 2011). Muslim practice is to bury rather
than cremate the deceased. Preparations of the body for burial take place within
twenty four hours. Funerary rituals involve final washing and shrouding the body
in white cloth. Before the burial, the body is taken for recitation of prayers. The
body is to be laid facing Mecca, an Islamic holy city in Saudi Arabia. It is
customary for the women to stay at home or at a mosque and pray, while the men
escort the body to the burial ground (Shaw, 2014). In Muslim countries, the body is
buried without the casket while this is not the case in the United States (Salman,
2010). Following the burial, visitors attend the home of the deceased to offer
condolences to the surviving family. Funerary rituals are usually performed
collectively in the sense that people travel from near and far to acknowledge the
deceased. The Islamic faith does not include placing flowers, burning candles, playing
music, or singing.
Most Muslims prepare an Islamic will when they become adults. The will lists the
people such as family members, neighbors and friends who

The ozone should always stay in tact to protects the earth from UV radiation, which is
harmful to humans (skin cancer) and also the earth (global warming). If allowed to
build up indoors, VOCs often contribute to lightheadedness, headaches, allergies and
more importantly has also scientifically proven harmful to asthma sufferers. As a
matter of fact, according to Professor Roy Harrison, professor of environmental
health at Birmingham University, there is a body of research on VOCs in the indoor
environment which links them with those kinds of symptoms headaches and not
feeling so good (news.bbc.co.uk). After proven to have negative effects on the ozone
layer as well as humans, the production of CFCs was shut down and in fact it s
banned in the US. Some scientists were not convinced by the act of banning CFCs
in spite of all these evidences. Given the large economic impact of a ban it was
estimated that industries relying on CFC production generated $8 billion in
business and employed 200,000 people in 1974 several scientists in the field
advocated waiting a few years for science to make more progress on the issue before
making any policy decisions. (bio.sunyorange.edu)
Although pump sprays are supposed to be slightly safer to use than aerosol sprays,
scientists recommend to stay away from hairspray as much as possible. Refillable
pump sprays can also help to reduce packaging waste and eliminate the possibility of
explosion. Manufacturers are
47. Technology And The New Home
When my wife and I moved our family from Seattle, Washington to Dallas, Texas
we used technology in multiple different ways to plan the move and interact with
the various service providers that we employed to help us along the way. I am
happy to say that the move went very smoothly and I know that it would not have
been as easy for us had technology support services offered by the providers we used
not been as easy to use and readily available.
We moved into a rental home for our first two months in Texas before deciding to
buy a house of our own; and that is when the first problem occurred. We had set up
our Internet and cable services through Verizon FIOSwhich was the only cable
option we had if we didn t want to use a satellite dish. The original account setup and
activation was simple and painless. And because their service up to that point had
been acceptable that we decide to retain their services for the new home.
They advertised on their website that if a customer was moving within the Verizon
FIOS service area that they could take all hardware, account information, and price
with them to the new service location. This sounded simple enough so I logged in
to submit the address change, expecting what they advertised to be true. It was early
in the morning, I was tired, and had a full day of moving ahead of me so I breezed
through the change form and trusted that everything was good to go. It wasn t until
almost two months later that I realized there was an issue
48. Cryptography Is A Science That Transforms Information
Into...
In recent times providing security to the information is the major issue. There are
many applications developed by the cyber terrorists, cyber criminals, script kidders
etc. to steal the private information like passwords, ATM pin numbers, and credit card
details so on. One of the solution to protect the information is Cryptography, which is
the focus of this paper.
Cryptography is a science that transforms information into secure form by providing
basic protections. These protections include confidentiality, Integrity, Availability,
Authentication, and Nonrepudiation (Ciampa 189). Let s understand the
characteristics of information and their description (see table 1).
The term Cryptography was originated from Greek. In Greek Crypto means hidden
and grapy means writing. Simply, cryptography means scrambling data so that it
cannot be read or access by an unauthorized person. The ancient cryptographer
Julius Caesar sent messages to his commanders by shifting each letter in his
message to three places down in the alphabet. A was replaced by D, B was replaced
by E and so on (Ciampa 186). This method of changing the original text into a secret
message is called encryption and retrieving back to the original form is called
decryption.
The clear plaintext is given as input to the cryptographic algorithm. According to
Stallings cryptographic algorithms consists of mathematical functions which are used
to encrypt and decrypt the data (44). A key is a mathematical value which
