Achieving Success With The Arts
Achieving Success with the Arts

The Arts and Us
Different forms of art have been around since the beginning of time. Art, comes from a cultures
specific way of life that has been passed down from generations. Art helps mold people into creative
individuals. It helps people stand out, be their own person, and increase their imagination. Art
surrounds us from the time we are young children to adults. As a young child, the song your parent
may use to sing you to sleep is a form of an art. The building blocks you played with in kindergarten
are a form of art. The dance you preformed for your cheerleading squad in high school is an art. Art
helps us learn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The art programs contribute towards helping a student learn more successfully in the classroom and
prepare them for adulthood. Without these programs children will not receive the full artistic and
creative experience that will help them succeed as adults. Art education should be kept in schools
because they benefit students in an academic setting, teaching then study patterns, helping promote
creativity and growing into successful adults.
Not Making the Cut
Art Education Programs may not bring in enough money to help provide the programs with new
supplies and equipment. Even though there may be a shortage of money, the students should be able to
vote which program goes. The shortage of money made by art programs may have caused schools to
become annoyed with having to pay for new equipment yearly. Many schools believe that by cutting
arts programs money could be used for something else more important. An art show may cost $3 to
attend and only 10 people may show up. A sports event may cost $3 to attend, but more than half the
school attends, including parents, sports fans and coaches. In an online article, Arsenault (2009)
concludes that It s fair to generalize that athletics last longer. They are universally recognized as
representative of the school and generate revenue. We have had schools that have totally cut athletic
programs, although those tend to be the last things on the chopping block because of sports

The City Of The Middle East
For my trip, I am going to be heading over to the Middle East. This city is one of the most interesting
places in the world; It is the fastest growing city in the world and is a dazzling, cosmopolitan
destination complete with gleaming skyscrapers, amazing weather, thousands of foreigners and some
of the most breathtaking and opulence hotels in the world (Stephanie). The city is rich with a widely
diverse culture, but is ruled under strict Muslim law by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The strict laws placed upon this city also gives it a crime rate virtually at 0% making it one of the
safest cities in the world (Stephanie). The Sheikh take great pride in their police force and make a
conscious effort to show off how classy it is to tourists coming around the world. The various models
of police cars range in the equivalence of one person in the United States going to college. The models
of police cars include Ferraris (valued at $500,000), Lamborghinis (valued at $400,000) and one
Ashton Martin, priced at $1.79 million. This flashy city in the desert is where is decided to take my
trip; the city is located in the country United Arab Emirates and is called the city of Dubai.
To get my trip started I am going to be taking a Delta flight from Atlanta (ATL) to Paris, France
(CDG). This continuous flight will take about 8h 37min; once I have made it to Paris I will have a
layover in Paris that will last 7h 45min. It s a good thing that I ve never been to Paris either.

Financial Aid In Higher Education Aims To Make Tuition
Financial aid in higher education aims to make tuition fees affordable. According to Ehrenberg (2002)
pointed out that financial aid has three main objectives: to increase access and persistence (enroll more
students), to increase affordability (make higher education cheaper for students and their families),
and to promote equality of opportunity (make sure disadvantaged students can go to University). The
student s aid programs are also differentiated on the basis of types which are loans, Grants, students
employment and scholarship

In South Africa the government established the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) in
1996, to enable students without financial resources can attend university, and the NSFAS provides
loans to universities students. These loans are administered by the institutions themselves and are part
of the Financial Aid Package (FAP) awarded to students on the basis of annual gross family income
and to what is known as level of need. Other criteria used by universities include family size, the
distance of the home from an institution, and the number of siblings at the university. Loans usually
cover tuition costs but in cases of extreme need, they may also cover living costs and traveling
expenses (Council on Higher Education s policy report, 2004).
2.4.3 Students Employment
In many countries especially in the USA and Europe, the students are employed while attending a
university; the jobs provided or designed by the University are considered as the student financial aid.
The student affairs officers can place students in jobs that complement their academic interest
(Dannells, 1977). Furthermore, bursaries and loans are also available from private companies and
commercial banks. For example, some companies provide contract bursaries to students and require
that after graduation the recipient work for the company or organization that made the award
(Adelman, 2010).

Diagnosing Problems Of Speech, Language Or Communication
Answer: Diagnosing problems in speech, language or communication is important to a childâ€TMs
development as it could affect their overall behaviour at school or home. If the problem is picked up
early enough then teachers, TAâ€TMs (teaching assistants) or Sencoâ€TMs can intervene. It could
affect ear school life as a child may not be able to socialise or make friends for fear that they will be
bullied or ostracised by other children. As a child grows older late diagnosis could affect their
academic abilities as well as feeling like a social outcast. A hearing impairment or speech impediment
may make it hard for a person to communicate; therefore it is crucial that other forms of
communication are established i.e. sign language, Makaton. If interventions and help are set in place
early enough then the person will receive the correct guidance and support. This allows agencies or
the people involved to ensure the child/young person is reaching their developmental targets and
promote positive results for their language and communication.
Question: Question 10
Answer: Multi agency teams work together to improve a childâ€TMs development. Initially a health
visitor or clinic would identify problems when a child is taken for check ups. Depending on the action
needed the child could be referred to a speech therapist such as SALT. If the child/young person was
of school age then the senco (special educational needs coordinator) would be well aware of the
problems and put

Eastern New Mexico University Analysis
Eastern New Mexico University is the optimal choice for me because the faculty cherishes the success
of the students. The first time I visited Eastern, I was fortunate enough to meet with Mr. Seifert, who
truly inspired me to make my decision to attend ENMU. After our initial conversation, he gave me a
tour of the music building. His generosity with his time meant a lot to me. This particular touch shows
the integrity of the university as unpretentious and attentive, which is incredibly refreshing
specifically at the university level. The stereotypical thought of college to a high school student is that
college is a frenzy, with students left to fend for themselves, in a high pressure, an almost impossible
atmosphere. My impression of eastern is that the entirety of the university is involved in the success of

Men s Lacrosse Research Papers
Lacrosse is a team sport that originated with Native Americans who lived in the northeastern areas of
the US and in Canada. The first documentation of the game came from a Jesuit Missionary in the mid
1600s making it the oldest game in North America. It is believed to have developed around 1100 AD.
Competitions were major events that could go on for days and involve 100 to 1,000 men. The rules
were agreed upon the day before the competition was scheduled to begin. Today the rules of the game
have been codified to help prevent any confusion.
The sport of Lacrosse is played by both men s and women s teams. The rules for each are similar, but
there are differences. For example, body checking is illegal in the women s game. That is why the
amount of protective equipment in the women s game is far less than that for the men s game. The
men s game uses ten players while the women s game uses 12 players. Women s sticks cannot have
mesh for the pockets, and the ball must be located above the sidewall every time it is in the pocket.
This makes shooting and stick handling much more difficult than in the men s game. The field size for
men is 60 yards by 110 yards while that for women is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as many points or goals as possible in the time allotted. The goals are 6 feet by 6 feet, and they are

ice hockey. The tennis sized ball is made of solid rubber so it can hurt if it hits you at a fast speed. A

Comparing Democracy Gaps And Participation
The actual aim of this study is regarding comparing democracy gaps and participation between Arab
Muslim countries and non Arab Muslim countries. The authors explain that the sixteen Arab countries
in the world are not democratic and have the lowest rates of Gross
Domestic Product per capita (GDPpc) concerning competitive elections. The authors continue in their
arguments and study stating that thirty one countries which are Muslim, but non Arab in contrast have
much higher rates of GDPpc in competitive elections.
The authors are trying to examine what makes such differences in these two different categories of
countries. The authors begin their thorough examination studying from the years from 1972 to
2000. The authors start contrasting countries that are Arab Muslim and non Arab Muslim, and the
authors study regarding electoral competitiveness found that religions other than Islam dominate. The
second stage is by qualitative, which is measuring more by quality than by quantity, it concentrated
more on evaluating all the forty seven Muslim dominant states and seeing which met the standard to
be labeled as an electoral competitive state. The authors then move to the third and last stage of their
examination, which they emphasize on the five main theoretical and political suggestions that the prior
two stages declare.
The authors studies are not based on legitimate democratic countries, but on two standards, first, the
countries that had reasonable fair

Simba Essay
In this film, various techniques have been utilized to create this theme, which is significantly the
theme of family. The director depicts Simba as the champion of good while on the opposite side Scar
represents the force of evil. The director preferred Simba due to his inquisitive nature and innocence,
which eventually leads him to danger. Likewise, the director selected Scar due to his lack of
conscience and evil acts depicting him as a villain. These two sides of the story implement the family
theme taking into consideration that all the veil plans scar makes meant to offend his very own family
members and brethren. He also cripples the land to which his family is living. For example, the movie
starts out by Mufasa who is virtuous, revealing that the reality of the animal kingdom is in a subtle
balance of animal and plant life. Subsequently an equitable and a decent king is aware and respects
this truth. When Scar assumes control over the kingdom, everything changes for the worst since Scar

Simba is a legitimate and moderately open animal. The scenes where he appears in offers light colors
which are a representative of the essence of moral, yet reliant upon his father, Mufasa. This family is a
very close knit unit, continually keeping an eye on where Simba is. In numerous scenes, the director
has Simba viewed in the sunlight which represents an image of innocence while on the other hand;
this fledgling cub maintains an ostentatious of arrogance which gets him into trouble. Scar, on the
other side, is a devious character whose words are Life isn t fair, is it? this portrays his vindictive and
tainted jealousy against young Simba. In the scenes, Scar receives an abundance of dark colors like his
black, bushy curls signifying his malevolent personalities. Therefore, the design and makeup are

Abstract
This essay determine how 100 congressional seats should be divided among the 10 states of the union.
The number of seats in a state should (in any fair distribution) be proportional to its ratio in the
population. Therefore rounding according to some (acceptable) rule should be applied.
Below you will see the table showing the Hamilton method of apportionment to determine the number
of seats each state would receive.
Hamilton Method (Named for Alexander Hamilton) Implementing this method is a three step
procedure.
1) Calculate each state s representation and round each one down.
2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Huntington Hill Method is a modified version of the Webster method, but it uses a slightly
different rounding method. While Webster s method rounds at 0.5, the Huntington Hill method rounds
at the geometric mean. If a state s quotient is higher than its geometric mean, it will be allocated an
additional seat. This method will almost always result in the desired number of seats which helps to
avoid an Alabama Paradox.
Apportionment can achieve both a fair and unfair representation giving the research I have done on
this assignment. It also depends on the apportionment method in which is used that also plays a factor
in your results.
For optimal fairness measures I believe that the Huntington Hill method displays the most fairness.
Giving the example that ai and Pi are the number of seats for state i and its population, respectively.
Then I would look at the measurements by the given fairness formula.
For the measure |ai aj(Pi/Pj)| Adams method is optimal.
For the measure |Pj/aj Pi/ai| Dean s method is optimal.
For the measure |(ai/aj)(Pi/Pj) 1| Huntington Hill is optimal.
For the measure |ai/Pi aj/Pj| Webster is optimal.
For the measure |ai(Pj/Pi) aj| Jefferson s method is optimal.
As you can see, it might not be obvious that these seemingly similar measures of absolute fairness
would give rise to such different methods to

The Influence Of The American Soldiers During World War II
Who would have ever thought a small amount of rice with raw fish on top of it would become so
popular across the world? Sushi s fame jumped an ocean across and became popular in the USA.
Many factors contributed to its popularization and has helped make its place in the American cuisine.
As time passed by, the simple creations of sushi evolved to complicated combinations and eye
catching presentations today. This change was welcomed because it gave a new perspective of the
dish, giving it a new face.
One of the factors that made sushi popular was the influence of the American soldiers. After World
War II (WWII), American soldiers who were led by General Douglas MacArthur occupied Japan.
During the war, sushi shops were forced to close due to rationing. There were not enough rice to
reopen the shops after the war. The American forces created a program where people would be the
ones to bring their own rice to the shop if they wanted sushi. The sushi chef would then use the rice
brought by the customers to make sushi for them. This allowed for the shops to reopen and function.
This popularized sushi outside of Tokyo (sushi was mainly sold in the city). One can say, sushi was
saved by the American forces. If the American forces had not stepped in and created the program to
help revive the sushi shops, no doubt would there be sushi shops open today. Sushi would not have
had the chance to spread outside of Tokyo.
Another factor is The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This was a

Compare And Contrast Abigail Williams And John Proctor
Abigail Williams and John Proctor in The Crucible
Arthur Miller wrote the play The Crucible in 1953. The Crucible takes place in the late 1600`s around
a town called Salem in Massachusetts. Miller went to Salem and acquired historical documents about
the Salem witch trials and used the real people s diaries and other writings to gather information on
what happened and how it happened. He also used the information to create interesting and real
characters that would grab and hold audiences attention. His most memorable characters, Abigail
Williams and John Proctor, are really the center pieces of the play. Although Abby and Proctor in The
Crucible seem like polar opposites, they are however one in the same as they use different methods to
reach an unlikely bet yet common goal proving how in common they really are.
The first character is John Proctor. John is a simple man who owns a farm as his everyday job. He
doesn t like to involved in the politics of the town, but seems to get drug into them anyway. His
violence is the strong point of his character as he uses this to try to achieve his goal, but will
ultimately be his downfall. Grasping her by the throat as though he would strangle her: Make your
peace with it! (Miller 38) Proctor in this scene has used violence to get Mary Warren to do what he
wants. Proctor is also very brave as a character in on scene Miller writes Proctor before a court
denouncing Abby as a whore(49). At first this doesn t seem like such a

Essay Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon was born on August 15th, 1769 in Ajaccio (Capital of Corsica) which is an island 70 miles
west of Italy. His parents were Carlo Bonaparte and Letizia Ramolino. They got married when Carlo
was 18 and Letizia was 14, this was in 1764. Letizia was the one who was always putting food on the
table, Carlo was way to lazy. His father was interested in politics.
Napoleon got sent to military school (Brienne Military Academy) in 1778. He hated it; his peers were
constantly making fun of him. They mostly made fun of him for being a Corsican; this would make
him love his homeland more. Because of the young men constantly making fun of him he would get

1788, when he was supposed to be sent to return to duty he actually got sent to the Artillery Training
School at Auxonne. During that year he learned all he needed to know about cannons. The more he
learned about them, the more he liked them. He called them Engines of Death which protected the
brave soldiers. He studied many books about war, geology, and other subjects. His favorite book was
the Social Contract written in 1762 by Jean Jacques Rousseau. Because of this book he hoped for a
constitution limiting the kings power and guaranteeing people rights. Which is ironic because
Napoleon would later be a dictator and the book is based on aristocracies and democracies.
At the end of the eighteenth century the French revolution had spread chaos across France. Lazy King
Louis XVI did little to help France. It is said that his favorite pastimes were hunting, where he killed
1,274 deer and 189,251 smaller animal, this would take a lot of time doing. His other favorite pastime
was rolling pellets of dirt from between his toes and flicking them at anyone who came in his range.
He spent France s money on his personal luxuries. His wife and daughter were the same way. They
were always buying expensive jewelry and expensive dresses. Nobles were also treated very well.
That is the reason why 21 million

Social Perspectives On Education And The Sociology Of...
EDST 1104 Social Perspectives in Education
Assessment 2 Essay
TANUWIJAYA, Wirya
Z3483970
Why is it important and/or helpful for initial teacher educators such as yourself, to learn about, and
learn to use, ideas from the sociology of education?
Social influences on educational outcomes and the social nature of education structures of the past and
present exemplify how social institutions can affect education perceived by individuals. This can also
be defined as the sociology of education; a study of education systems of how social institutions and
individual experiences affect education and its outcome, as interpreted by Scott and Marshall (2009).
This essay will address how the background of sociology of education (culture of power that exist)
shapes the current social perspectives in education, how sociology of education contributes and its
usefulness for initial educators.
Sociology, education and history
Firstly, it is fundamental for scholars to understand the relationship between the roots of educational
sociology and the sociology of education. Education is being integrated into sociology, the latter
considered by many educators as a supporting beam of pedagogy (in addition to philosophy,
anthropology, psychology, biology, ethics and aesthetics). Through this, the knowledge of sociological
method, problems and generalizations may be adequately interpreted to every educator. Surely,
contemporary education cannot disregard the contributions of sociology. In

Dian Fossey s Trip To Africa
Dian Fossey took her first trip to Africa in September of 1963. It cost her an entire life savings plus a
loan. It was during this trip that Fossey fell in love with the mountain gorillas, so she returned to
Africa in 1967 and set up her Karisoke Research Station in Rwanda. At the research station, she had

It took some time for Dian Fossey to build a strong bond with the gorillas. At first, her main focus was
tracking them. However, when she got close to them, they would shy away. After watching patiently
from a distance for a while, the gorillas began to accept that she was not a danger, allowing her to

False Statistical Data Analysis
Statistics are an important part of every day life and can be used throughout many different activities.
Many statistics, however, are altered and can be deceptive at first glance. One example of this includes
the claim that women make less money than men. When analyzing statistics of a set of data, one must
take into account sample size and other parameters. In this particular example, it may be true that the
mean of women s income is large in a sample of ten participants. However, the mean of men s income
may be smaller because a larger sample was taken. Many companies use false statistical data to
advertise their product. This claim may be substantiated for a small sample, but not for a whole
population. In addition, statistics provide credibility for your evidence or argument. The audience of
this article is any person who watches television, reads magazines, or views any form of media. ...

evidence to back up my claims. I found it most difficult to understand the idea of how diverse the
usage of statistics in an average day. The idea that probability and other statistical concepts exist in our
world through real life examples fascinates me. This created unrest in me because it is easy to fall into
the trap of simply believing what one sees at first glance. This way of thinking could create

The SEC appoints the members of the PCAOB and has oversight and enforcement authority over it.
The PCAOB is charged with establishing and enforcing auditing, quality control, ethics and
independence standards and rules for public company accountants. The SEC will not accept an audit
report from an accounting firm that is not registered with the PCAOB. Thus, SEC reporting companies
must engage the services of a registered public accounting firm. The PCAOB is funded by new fees
imposed on publicly traded companies based on their market capitalization the fees range from as little
as $100 for the very smallest companies to more than $1 million for a handful of the largest
companies.[4]

Motherless Princesses In Disney Films
Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Jasmine from
Aladdin, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and even Elsa and Anna from Frozen all have one thing in
common: They are motherless. This presentation will explore Disney s motherless princesses and how
women are represented in the films. Not only are the mothers absent but when there is a mother figure
in place she is cruel and evil. To understand exactly why this is so prevalent in many Disney films,
this work will build upon the works of Ann Hall and Mardia Bishop, Marjorie Worthington, and Lynda
Haas. Thus, it appears Disney movies have removed mothers and replaced them with evil or uncaring
mother figures. Also, multiple sources contend that the, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them gain access to it or to navigate through it. Kimball (1999) And for Cinderella and Snow White

is that older women women of motherhood age, at least are not to be trusted; sure, your stepmother
might say you can go to the ball, but we know she never meant to keep that promise. Abate (2012)
One can only wonder what is this image of the evil and jealous older woman might discourage girls
from viewing mothers as role models and loving sources of wisdom, and rather encourage them to you
to see us as threats. Griffin (2000) Mothers have been so effectively erased from these films that their
absence is never remarked upon by the characters and, perhaps more importantly, their absence
absence is therefore never noticed by the spectators, young girls. Hall (2009) The fact that Disney
seems to revel in killing or erasing mothers has been widely discussed, and all eras of princess films
are consistent in their erasure of a mother figure. Abate

Whisking By Ehrenreich Summary
Ehrenreich discusses how the employers manage to disclose any information of pay to applicants
during interviews in this way: I have mentioned the way the hiring process seems designed, in some
cases, to prevent any discussion or even disclosure of wage whisking the applicant from interview to
orientation before the crass subject of money can be raised. Some employers go further; instead of
relying on the informal money taboo to keep workers from discussing and comparing wages, they
specifically enjoin workers from doing so. (207) Ehrenreich uses a dash instead of a comma or a
colon. Dashes aren t as formal as colons but provide more emphasis than commas. She could have
ended the sentence where the dash began but she decided to include the part where applicants are
rushed into orientation before the talk of pay comes up. This dash made everything stop short. The
author connects these two together to create more emphasis on the crooked hiring process. It shows
that she felt it necessary to bring the actual process to surface because it is often hidden. The true
intentions of employers had to be exposed to show that many workers go into work blind of their
actual pay. It reveals how unfair it is for applicants. It felt as though the author was suddenly stopped

By using whisking , it implies that the applicants were rushed into orientation. This term is often used
in baking as well. It seems as if the author is making a comparison between the applicants and the
ingredients of a batter. Both belong in one whole mixture so they are rapidly whipped together to
make one. The goal for both scenarios is to have a finished product without any complications. Money
is often a problem that arises during the hiring process so the employers hustle to avoid this
complication. If the author was making this association, it implies that she feels the applicants are just
one piece of a whole and are not important as

Persuasion As An Essential Part Of Survival
There are many different techniques to persuasion. Some of the techniques include foot in the door,
scarcity, pique, and many others. All of these techniques are designed to influence the opinion and
actions of others. Persuasion is used in our everyday life and is an essential part of survival. As we are
approached by different persuaders through out our life, it s important to know that people are
constantly trying to shape our opinions and react accordingly. Social scientists suggest that when
people are presented with any idea or persuasive proposal, their natural reaction is to immediately find
a way to sort the information subconsciously and react to it. Most people will evaluate the information
and compare it to the attitude we have already. This is called the intitial attitude or anchor point.
Persuasion can be defined as using one s personal resources to change people s attitudes or behaviors.
Persuasion is often used to make a personal gain, such as in an election or when trying to sale a
product. The history of persuasion began long ago with the Greeks, who used persuasion in trails.
Greeks emphasized elocution and rhetoric as the highest standard for a successful politician. The
Greek philosopher Aristotle taught that persuasion was very important. He stated that persuasion is an
excellent tool for teaching and there is no better way to defend one s self. There are many
characteristics of a persuader and there are many different types of

The Evolution Of Human Chromosomes
Introduction
Human chromosomes are incredibly complex, containing a variety of different structures necessary to
maintain its function; one of these is called a Telomere and is found at the ends of the chromosomes.
Telomeres contain thousands of repeats of the repetitive TTAGGG DNA sequence; this is combined
with a complex enzyme known as telomerase. Furthermore, the function of this ribonucleoprotein
enzyme complex is to maintain telomere length in cancer cells by adding TTAGGG repeats onto the
telomeric ends of the chromosomes; this compensates for the normal expected shortening of telomeres
which occurs in all dividing cells.
Predominantly human cancers emerge during ageing or during the end stage of disease are caused by
the increased rate of chromosomal instability, thus inducing lesions responsible for apoptosis within
cells altering them into immortal cells, i.e. cancer cells. Telomere shortening has very strong ties to the
increased risk of immortal cells occurring within ageing and chronic disease, showing a very strong
indication that the shortening of sequence affects cell division; this directly contributes to the
chromosomal instability and cancer initiation processes.
Telomere biology is increasing our understanding of where ageing and chronic disease cancers occur
from, this is directly linked to the understanding of telomerase and how it appears within immortal
cells but not somatic cells. Furthermore, there are proving a number of theories to suggest

decent successor, he gives every male youth in the kingdom a test. The test is to a seed, given to them
by the emperor, and to care for it and return in a year. However Ling s seed did not grow and he was

Hearing Loss Data Analysis
LINICAL DATAANALYSIS The type of hearing loss was classified as sensorineural, conductive, or
mixed according to the European Working Group on Genetics of Hearing Impairment.21 Conductive
hearing loss was defined as normal bone conduction thresholds (20 dB) and an averaged air bone
gap of 15 dB or more for 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz. Mixed hearing loss was defined as a bone
conduction threshold greater than 20 dB in combination with an averaged air bone gap 15 dB or more
for 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz. Sensorineural hearing loss was defined as an averaged air bone gap of
less than 15 dB for 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz. The degree of hearing loss was categorized in 2 different
ways: employment of commonly used age independent clinical guidelines,22 and ... Show more

Low frequency and midfrequency thresholds were most commonly affected in the youngest age
groups. High frequency configurations in young children were gently sloping, whereas older subjects
had steeply sloping high frequency configurations. To identify the contribution of the underlying gene
mutations to the observed sensorineural hearing loss, audiometric thresholds at 500, 1000, 2000, 4000,
and 8000 Hz, as well as PTAs, were compared with those reported for an otologically screened
population 25 years and older.23,24 Subjects with a history of otologic surgery were excluded from
our analysis. Fourteen had undergone prior placement of 1 or more sets of tympanostomy tubes and 2
had undergone tympanoplasties (no subjects reported a history of mastoidectomy). As shown in Figure
2, approximately 60% (14 of the 24 subjects) of all affected adults with complete bone conduction
data had at least 2 thresholds above the 95th percentile or, in the case of 8000 Hz, above the 90th
percentile. 2 Analysis revealed no statistically significant correlation between the number of

Ancient Egypt And Ancient Egyptian Culture
The Egyptian culture has long been considered quite optimistic. It should be argued that of all ancient
civilisations and cultures, the ancient Egyptian culture, is by far the most optimistic; in terms of
everyday outlook on life, religion and death. The ancient Egyptian culture when compared to its
nearby neighbours in the Levant and Mesopotamia is indeed optimistic. An examination of the
environment of ancient Egypt affected daily life as this would in turn influence the culture, and
whether or not this played a role in making ancient Egyptian life and culture more optimistic. It is also
essential that the ancient Egyptian myths and religion be explored to determine whether or not it
contained the same optimistic outlook as the culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their civilisation was situated adjacent to the Nile River. Evidently, this allowed for the ancient
Egyptians to transition into an agricultural lifestyle with relative ease, as stated by Marc Van De
Mieroop wherever its waters reaches the soil can be farmed; where it does not reach the earth is
parched and it is impossible to grow anything on it. This subsequently allowed the ancient Egyptians
to begin farming with relative ease as the Nile River stretched some 6500 kilometres, which is more
than enough farming area for a civilisation with a relatively small population. The ancient Egyptians
were further blessed by the fact that the Nile River, would flood on a yearly basis bringing in rich silt
that ultimately acted as fertilisers for the crops, and thus allowing for less labour and higher yield. The
Nile River itself has no doubt contributed to the general optimism of Egyptian culture which is evident
in the Hymn to the Nile whereby it states May your countenance shine on us, Hapy, god of the moving
River, who comes forth from the earth returning to save the Black Land. His features are hidden, dark
in the daylight, yet faithful find him fit subject for song. He waters the landscape the Sun god has
formed, giving life to every small creature. The words used in the Hymn to describe and thank the god
Hapy show that ancient Egyptians are indeed grateful towards the environment as the Nile River is
integrated into ancient Egyptian

Case Study: The Court Was Appalled
In Tomcik v. Ohio Dep t of Rehabilitation Correction, the plaintiff, Tomcik, was in the custody of the
defendant, a penal institution. Tomcik alleged that it was the delay in her examination that ultimately
led to the removal of her right breast; had she been seen in a more timely manner, much of the breast
could have been spared. The defendant, the corrections department, contended that even if it were
negligent, Tomcik s cancer was so advanced when discovered that it would nevertheless have required
removal of her breast. The Ohio Court of Appeals held that the delay in providing treatment to Tomcik
fell below the medically acceptable standard of care.
Summarize the Case: The Court Was Appalled.
Janet Tomcik, age 31, was assign to participate in the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction
center in the state of Ohio on April 28, 1989 for having burglar tools in her custody. The policy of the
institutes states every new inmate must have a physical examination to record current medical status.
Ms. Tomcik had her medical assessment done on May 26, 1989 by Dr. Evans. The next day she
inspected her own breasts and found a pea size lump in the right one. She notified medical personal
but she did not receive a re examination until June 21 by a nurse who stated the mass was large.

“the First World War Did Not Arise Primarily as a Result...
The First World War did not arise primarily as a result of planned German aggression How far do you
agree with this opinion?
Explain your answer, using sources 1, 2 and 3 and your own knowledge of the issues related to this
controversy.
There has been some controversy as to what or who was to blame for the outbreak of the First World
War. Some people have taken the opinion that the war arose as a result of planned German aggression
such as sources two and three, whereas source one is of the opinion that the Germans went to war with
defensive intentions and that they didn t have any special plan to dominate Europe .
It can be argued that the Schlieffen Plan was openly rigid and brittle which meant that the Germans
had no choice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I know from my own knowledge that the German s invented the Schlieffen Plan, a German
battle plan that was made many years prior to 1914 as a way to prevent a war on two fronts, implying
that they would be at war at some point. This shows aggressive intent and would contradict the views
of source 1 and the statement above, and yet agree with those of source two.
Furthermore source 3 presents the idea that there was inevitability and necessity for war, thus showing
us that Germany was indeed preparing for this and doing so through their aggressive nature. As well
as this, the war was also influenced by other ideas presented by this source, for example: the recovery
by France of Alsace Lorraine and the securing for Russia of Constantinople and the Straits. This
would contradict the points that were earlier made about German s aggression shining through and
would in fact suggest to us that they had no other alternative but to try and take back what the believed
to be theirs. In addition to this, there was indeed another big factor in the beginning of war which is
presented by source 3, and that was the British concern that the coast of Belgium should not be
occupied by a hostile power . Once again we could interpret this is two ways, one being that it was the
British that then made the first move regarding the outbreak of war because of this reason which
would therefore

Gemmer Professor Bernard Jefferson Community Technical College The Arts and Us Different forms of art have been around since the beginning of time. Art, comes from a cultures specific way of life that has been passed down from generations. Art helps mold people into creative individuals. It helps people stand out, be their own person, and increase their imagination. Art surrounds us from the time we are young children to adults. As a young child, the song your parent may use to sing you to sleep is a form of an art. The building blocks you played with in kindergarten are a form of art. The art programs contribute towards helping a student learn more successfully in the classroom and prepare them for adulthood. Without these programs children will not receive the full artistic and creative experience that will help them succeed as adults. Art education should be kept in schools because they benefit students in an academic setting, teaching then study patterns, helping promote creativity and growing into successful adults. Not Making the Cut Art Education Programs may not bring in enough money to help provide the programs with new supplies and equipment. Even though there may be a shortage of money, the students should be able to vote which program goes. The shortage of money made by art programs may have caused schools to become annoyed with having to pay for new equipment yearly. Many schools believe that by cutting arts programs money could be used for something else more important. An art show may cost $3 to attend and only 10 people may show up. A sports event may cost $3 to attend, but more than half the school attends, including parents, sports fans and coaches. In an online article, Arsenault (2009) concludes that It s fair to generalize that athletics last longer. They are universally recognized as representative of the school and generate revenue. This city is one of the most interesting places in the world; It is the fastest growing city in the world and is a dazzling, cosmopolitan destination complete with gleaming skyscrapers, amazing weather, thousands of foreigners and some of the most breathtaking and opulence hotels in the world (Stephanie). The city is rich with a widely diverse culture, but is ruled under strict Muslim law by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The strict laws placed upon this city also gives it a crime rate virtually at 0% making it one of the safest cities in the world (Stephanie). • 6. Diagnosing Problems Of Speech, Language Or Communication Answer: Diagnosing problems in speech, language or communication is important to a childâ€TMs development as it could affect their overall behaviour at school or home. If the problem is picked up early enough then teachers, TAâ€TMs (teaching assistants) or Sencoâ€TMs can intervene. It could affect ear school life as a child may not be able to socialise or make friends for fear that they will be bullied or ostracised by other children. As a child grows older late diagnosis could affect their academic abilities as well as feeling like a social outcast. A hearing impairment or speech impediment may make it hard for a person to communicate; therefore it is crucial that other forms of communication are established i.e. sign language, Makaton. If interventions and help are set in place early enough then the person will receive the correct guidance and support. This allows agencies or the people involved to ensure the child/young person is reaching their developmental targets and promote positive results for their language and communication. The first documentation of the game came from a Jesuit Missionary in the mid 1600s making it the oldest game in North America. It is believed to have developed around 1100 AD. Competitions were major events that could go on for days and involve 100 to 1,000 men. The rules were agreed upon the day before the competition was scheduled to begin. Today the rules of the game have been codified to help prevent any confusion. The sport of Lacrosse is played by both men s and women s teams. The rules for each are similar, but there are differences. For example, body checking is illegal in the women s game. That is why the amount of protective equipment in the women s game is far less than that for the men s game. The men s game uses ten players while the women s game uses 12 players. Women s sticks cannot have mesh for the pockets, and the ball must be located above the sidewall every time it is in the pocket. The director depicts Simba as the champion of good while on the opposite side Scar represents the force of evil. The director preferred Simba due to his inquisitive nature and innocence, which eventually leads him to danger. Likewise, the director selected Scar due to his lack of conscience and evil acts depicting him as a villain. These two sides of the story implement the family theme taking into consideration that all the veil plans scar makes meant to offend his very own family members and brethren. He also cripples the land to which his family is living. For example, the movie starts out by Mufasa who is virtuous, revealing that the reality of the animal kingdom is in a subtle balance of animal and plant life. The number of seats in a state should (in any fair distribution) be proportional to its ratio in the population. Therefore rounding according to some (acceptable) rule should be applied. Below you will see the table showing the Hamilton method of apportionment to determine the number of seats each state would receive. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Huntington Hill Method is a modified version of the Webster method, but it uses a slightly different rounding method. While Webster s method rounds at 0.5, the Huntington Hill method rounds at the geometric mean. If a state s quotient is higher than its geometric mean, it will be allocated an additional seat. This method will almost always result in the desired number of seats which helps to avoid an Alabama Paradox. Apportionment can achieve both a fair and unfair representation giving the research I have done on this assignment. It also depends on the apportionment method in which is used that also plays a factor in your results. As you can see, it might not be obvious that these seemingly similar measures of absolute fairness would give rise to such different methods to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Influence Of The American Soldiers During World War II Who would have ever thought a small amount of rice with raw fish on top of it would become so popular across the world? Sushi s fame jumped an ocean across and became popular in the USA. Many factors contributed to its popularization and has helped make its place in the American cuisine. As time passed by, the simple creations of sushi evolved to complicated combinations and eye catching presentations today. This change was welcomed because it gave a new perspective of the dish, giving it a new face. One of the factors that made sushi popular was the influence of the American soldiers. After World War II (WWII), American soldiers who were led by General Douglas MacArthur occupied Japan. During the war, sushi shops were forced to close due to rationing. There were not enough rice to reopen the shops after the war. The American forces created a program where people would be the ones to bring their own rice to the shop if they wanted sushi. The sushi chef would then use the rice brought by the customers to make sushi for them. This allowed for the shops to reopen and function. This popularized sushi outside of Tokyo (sushi was mainly sold in the city). One can say, sushi was saved by the American forces. If the American forces had not stepped in and created the program to help revive the sushi shops, no doubt would there be sushi shops open today. Sushi would not have had the chance to spread outside of Tokyo. Another factor is The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social influences on educational outcomes and the social nature of education structures of the past and present exemplify how social institutions can affect education perceived by individuals. This can also be defined as the sociology of education; a study of education systems of how social institutions and individual experiences affect education and its outcome, as interpreted by Scott and Marshall (2009). Motherless Princesses In Disney Films Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Jasmine from Aladdin, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and even Elsa and Anna from Frozen all have one thing in common: They are motherless. This presentation will explore Disney s motherless princesses and how women are represented in the films. Not only are the mothers absent but when there is a mother figure in place she is cruel and evil. To understand exactly why this is so prevalent in many Disney films, this work will build upon the works of Ann Hall and Mardia Bishop, Marjorie Worthington, and Lynda Haas. Thus, it appears Disney movies have removed mothers and replaced them with evil or uncaring mother figures. Also, multiple sources contend that the, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 25. Whisking By Ehrenreich Summary Ehrenreich discusses how the employers manage to disclose any information of pay to applicants during interviews in this way: I have mentioned the way the hiring process seems designed, in some cases, to prevent any discussion or even disclosure of wage whisking the applicant from interview to orientation before the crass subject of money can be raised. Some employers go further; instead of relying on the informal money taboo to keep workers from discussing and comparing wages, they specifically enjoin workers from doing so. (207) Ehrenreich uses a dash instead of a comma or a colon. Dashes aren t as formal as colons but provide more emphasis than commas. She could have ended the sentence where the dash began but she decided to include the part where applicants are rushed into orientation before the talk of pay comes up. This dash made everything stop short. The author connects these two together to create more emphasis on the crooked hiring process. It shows that she felt it necessary to bring the actual process to surface because it is often hidden. The true intentions of employers had to be exposed to show that many workers go into work blind of their actual pay. It reveals how unfair it is for applicants. Money is often a problem that arises during the hiring process so the employers hustle to avoid this complication. • 26. Persuasion As An Essential Part Of Survival There are many different techniques to persuasion. Some of the techniques include foot in the door, scarcity, pique, and many others. All of these techniques are designed to influence the opinion and actions of others. Persuasion is used in our everyday life and is an essential part of survival. As we are approached by different persuaders through out our life, it s important to know that people are constantly trying to shape our opinions and react accordingly. Social scientists suggest that when people are presented with any idea or persuasive proposal, their natural reaction is to immediately find a way to sort the information subconsciously and react to it. Most people will evaluate the information and compare it to the attitude we have already. This is called the intitial attitude or anchor point. Persuasion can be defined as using one s personal resources to change people s attitudes or behaviors. Persuasion is often used to make a personal gain, such as in an election or when trying to sale a product. The history of persuasion began long ago with the Greeks, who used persuasion in trails. Greeks emphasized elocution and rhetoric as the highest standard for a successful politician. The Greek philosopher Aristotle taught that persuasion was very important. He stated that persuasion is an excellent tool for teaching and there is no better way to defend one s self. There are many characteristics of a persuader and there are many different types of ... • 27. The Evolution Of Human Chromosomes Introduction Human chromosomes are incredibly complex, containing a variety of different structures necessary to maintain its function; one of these is called a Telomere and is found at the ends of the chromosomes. Telomeres contain thousands of repeats of the repetitive TTAGGG DNA sequence; this is combined with a complex enzyme known as telomerase. Furthermore, the function of this ribonucleoprotein enzyme complex is to maintain telomere length in cancer cells by adding TTAGGG repeats onto the telomeric ends of the chromosomes; this compensates for the normal expected shortening of telomeres which occurs in all dividing cells. Predominantly human cancers emerge during ageing or during the end stage of disease are caused by the increased rate of chromosomal instability, thus inducing lesions responsible for apoptosis within cells altering them into immortal cells, i.e. cancer cells. Telomere shortening has very strong ties to the increased risk of immortal cells occurring within ageing and chronic disease, showing a very strong indication that the shortening of sequence affects cell division; this directly contributes to the chromosomal instability and cancer initiation processes. Telomere biology is increasing our understanding of where ageing and chronic disease cancers occur from, this is directly linked to the understanding of telomerase and how it appears within immortal cells but not somatic cells. Furthermore, there are proving a number of theories to suggest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An examination of the environment of ancient Egypt affected daily life as this would in turn influence the culture, and whether or not this played a role in making ancient Egyptian life and culture more optimistic. Evidently, this allowed for the ancient Egyptians to transition into an agricultural lifestyle with relative ease, as stated by Marc Van De Mieroop wherever its waters reaches the soil can be farmed; where it does not reach the earth is parched and it is impossible to grow anything on it. This subsequently allowed the ancient Egyptians to begin farming with relative ease as the Nile River stretched some 6500 kilometres, which is more than enough farming area for a civilisation with a relatively small population. The ancient Egyptians were further blessed by the fact that the Nile River, would flood on a yearly basis bringing in rich silt that ultimately acted as fertilisers for the crops, and thus allowing for less labour and higher yield. The Nile River itself has no doubt contributed to the general optimism of Egyptian culture which is evident in the Hymn to the Nile whereby it states May your countenance shine on us, Hapy, god of the moving River, who comes forth from the earth returning to save the Black Land. His features are hidden, dark in the daylight, yet faithful find him fit subject for song. He waters the landscape the Sun god has formed, giving life to every small creature. Explain your answer, using sources 1, 2 and 3 and your own knowledge of the issues related to this controversy. There has been some controversy as to what or who was to blame for the outbreak of the First World War. Some people have taken the opinion that the war arose as a result of planned German aggression such as sources two and three, whereas source one is of the opinion that the Germans went to war with defensive intentions and that they didn t have any special plan to dominate Europe . However, I know from my own knowledge that the German s invented the Schlieffen Plan, a German battle plan that was made many years prior to 1914 as a way to prevent a war on two fronts, implying that they would be at war at some point. This shows aggressive intent and would contradict the views of source 1 and the statement above, and yet agree with those of source two. Furthermore source 3 presents the idea that there was inevitability and necessity for war, thus showing us that Germany was indeed preparing for this and doing so through their aggressive nature. As well as this, the war was also influenced by other ideas presented by this source, for example: the recovery by France of Alsace Lorraine and the securing for Russia of Constantinople and the Straits. This would contradict the points that were earlier made about German s aggression shining through and would in fact suggest to us that they had no other alternative but to try and take back what the believed to be theirs. In addition to this, there was indeed another big factor in the beginning of war which is presented by source 3, and that was the British concern that the coast of Belgium should not be occupied by a hostile power . Once again we could interpret this is two ways, one being that it was the British that then made the first move regarding the outbreak of war because of this reason which would therefore ...
