Veiled Sentiments Essay
VEILED SENTIMENTS
Honor and Poetry in a Bedouin Society
(Critique)
The book, Veiled Sentiments: Honor and Poetry in a Bedouin Society, by author and
anthropologist, Lila Abu Lughod, who is best known for her work on women s issues in the
middle east, presents two years of fieldwork in Egypt among the Awlad Ali Bedouincommunity
who have gone from living a nomadic lifestyle , a farming system where animals are transported
from one area to another in search for fresh grazing land, to living in villages where smuggling,
raising animals, and doing odd jobs are ways of supporting themselves. In the book, Abu Lughod
brings together the concepts of structure, hierarchy, ideology, and discourse to illustrate the
Bedouin culture, and how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(p.79)
When reading Veiled Sentiments, I got the impression that the existing social hierarchy among the
Awlad Ali was based on gender, age, wisdom, and wealth, Women are always dependent, and
В…the powerful have obligations and responsibilities to protect and care for the weak. The weaker
members epitomized by the helpless infant, and by extension all children. (p.80 81) Abu Lughod
did a good job depicting the ways that the social hierarchy works, by including terminology such as
wliyya, and by vividly describing situations where women, and children seemed weaker than the
adult males in the community, who in most situations appeared to be the head of households. The
author also goes further into the ideals of the Awlad Ali by discussing the relations between female
modesty (hasham), natural inferiority , and sexuality. She depicts the ideal woman in the eyes of
the Bedouin people, describing her as soft spoken, and well behaved, and with no open thoughts on
sexuality. Apart from discussing the importance of hasham in a woman, Abu Lughod points out that
emotion of love and affection between men and women is a taboo. Men that show emotion
towards a woman are seen to be weak and are shunned upon by their male peers, as well as women
in the community. Women claim, for instance, that real men control all their dependents and beat
their wives when the wives do stupid things ( p.89) . In

The Waikato War Of 1863-1864
A Key conflict that endures as one of the most noteworthy events in New Zealand s early history
is the Waikato war of 1863 1864. The significance of the battles lies in the definition of the status
of Maori and Pakeha in New Zealand. Particular historic debate surrounds whether the Waikato
war was caused more primarily over the dispute of land or sovereignty. Maori were rising against
British control and domination over them exhibited by establishment of the Kingitanga
movement and the resistance to land sales. Responding in a way they saw that they had the right
British invaded the Waikato. The outcomes of these events still hold debate and controversy in
the regions of occurrence even today. With large loss of lives on both sides directly from the
clashes, as Maori retained their pride refused to surrender to the British s superior technology. New
laws were passed as a result of the resistance involving shameless policy s which marginalised
Maori and there rights further. The consequences of this warwere drawn out until the late 20th,
when finally reparations were made in full.
Evidence of potential disputes over land and sovereignty had been prevalent since the early contact
between Maori and Pakeha, over these early origins of the issues generated the signing of the Treaty
in an attempt resolve the surrounding issues. But in fact the contestability of the treaty itself and
from the translation variance between the Maori and English versions rose up many more issues

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Polymers
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Composite materials are the engineering materials made from two or more constituent materials
they remain separate and distinct on a macroscopic level but forming a single component or
Composites can defined as materials that consist of two more chemically and physically different
phases separated by a distinct interface(matrix phase and dispersed phase). The different systems
are combined judiciously to achieve a component with more and more useful structural or
functional properties non attainable by any of the constituent alone. Matrix phase is the primary
phase having a continuous character. Matrix is usually more ductile and less hard phase. It holds
the dispersed phase and shares a load with it. Dispersed (reinforcing) phase is embedded in the
matrix in a discontinuous form. This secondary phase is called the dispersed phase. Dispersed
phase is usually stronger than the matrix, therefore, it is sometimes called reinforcing phase.
Composites, the wonder materials are becoming an essential part of today s materials due to their
advantages such as low weight, corrosion resistance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, polymers are also known for their low thermal conductivity, relatively high flammability,
most often accompanied by the production of corrosive or toxic gases and smoke during
combustion. Consequently, improving the thermal properties and fire retardant behaviour of
polymers is a major challenge for extending their use to most applications. The most of the
polymers have thermal conductivity less than 0.5 W/m K. Improved thermal conductivity in
polymers may be achieved either by changing their molecular orientation or by the addition of
conductive fillers. It has been found that interfacial thermal conductance between fillers and
polymer matrix is crucial to the thermal transport in composites

Why Does Area 51 Exist
Introduction Over the years, Area 51 has developed a very mysterious reputation and it is
confirmed that Area 51 is in fact real because President Obama actually acknowledged it in one of
his speeches, but nobody knows what for sure goes on inside the compound because the CIA is
very secretive with all of its experiments, location, and how they keep all the different theories
remaining a mystery. In this paper you will find some information about how Area 51does exist, and
learn about some of its experiments and what they actually use the compound for.

The President couldn t resist the opportunity to joke about the decades of theories surrounding
mysterious lights and aliens at the Nevada installation (Miller, 2013, p.1). Now, when you first
become President, one of the questions that people ask you is what s really going on in Area 51
(Miller, 2013, p.1). When I wanted to know, I d call Shirley MacLaine. I think I just became the
first president to ever publicly mention Area 51. How s that, Shirley? (Miller, 2013, p.1).
According to The Central Intelligence Agency and Overhead Reconnaissance (2013), The U 2

notorious in America s cultural mythology in 1989, as the cold war wrapped up, when a Las
Vegas man who claimed to have worked at the facility told a fantastical tale about witnessing
crashed alien space hardware (Jonsson, 2013, p.1). According to Patrik Jonsson (2013), The
National Security Archives released a blockbuster CIA history that for the first time officially
acknowledges the existence of the facility at Groom Lake (Jonsson, 2013,

Examples Of Mock Epic And Rape Of The Lock
Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the
characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. In the The Rape of the Lock there is an
invocation to Muses, proposition of subject, battles, supernatural machinery, and journey on water,
underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric similes and grand style but all
for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand action of a low subject
produces comical laughter and makes the story more absurd. The subject matters in both of the
epic poems are grand. Like the epic poems, the poem The Rape of the Lock opens with the
proposition of the subject matter and invocation to the Muses to help him create... Show more

The ritual sacrifices the Baron performs in the pre dawn hours are another mock epic element
of the poem, mimicking the epic tradition of sacrificing to the gods before an important battle or
journey. The fact that he discards all his other love tokens in these preparations reveals his
untrustworthiness as a lover. An epic poem must contain episodes also. In the poem Rape of the
Lock, Pope has introduced the episodes of the game of Omber which suggests the powerful
battle and the cards involve the soldiers described in great detail. There is also the battle between
lords and ladies just like the battle in epic poem. But in mock epic this battle is fought with fans
and snuff instead of with swords and spears. There are single fight between Belinda and Baron
and between Clarissa and Sir Plume. Another vital element of an epic is the active participation of
supernatural machinery like god and goddesses. In The Rape of the Lock, there are sylphs and
gnomes. These aerial spirits are small and insignificant things and are therefore, exactly in keeping
with the triviality of the

Empty Nest Syndrome Theme
ESSAY: EMPTY NEST SYNDROME
It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that
will make them successful human beings.
Ann Lander.
Empty nest syndrome is a psychological condition faced by most of the parents after a certain point
of time in their lives when their children leave them for their higher education, marriage. This
condition is most common in mothers since they are the ones who have spent almost eighteen to
nineteen years of their life with their children growing them from toddlers to teen.
Hasan Manzar s The Cactus is a very well written story throws the light upon the universal
experience which the whole world is facing from the past thousands of decades. The story brings
out the life of an old couple. A familyof three daughters, two sons, and seven grandchildren,
couple living in huge well nestled house and the irony is that in this mammoth house there was no
one living except the old sensitive couple. Sensitive here refers to the scene where they have
created a hole in the eave allowing the cactus to grow. Also we can interpret cactus as the old
couple s children who are not restricted by the boundaries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While cactuses are usually appealing with their bright green colours, they are covered with sharp
thorns, bury them in the skin if touched. This could be compared to the love held by the old
couple for their children; painful to bear with it. Old couple doesn t seem interested in selling the
house this can be justified in two ways, firstly polished rubber plants and well groomed house
indicates that there whole time is diverted to these works and secondly may be they don t want
their old memories in the house to be removed that s why the house is well

Attitudes Towards Love in Pre-1900 and 1990 s Poetry Essay
Attitudes Towards Love in Pre 1900 and 1990 s Poetry
The Despairing Lover written by William Walsh was written pre 1900 whilst the second poem I
Wouldn t Thank you for a Valentine by Liz
Lockhead was written in the 1990 s. These poems are almost a century apart. Attitude towards love
changes over time and these poems represent this. I Wouldn t Thank you for a Valentine is about
how people think about Valentine s Day in the 1990 s, while The Despairing
Lover is showing what people think and how important they see love in the 1990 s.
In The Despairing Lover William Walsh sets out the poem like a story with a beginning a middle
and an end. This narrative structure of the poem gives the poem three clear stages this making ...

This enables me to come to the conclusion that the poet isn t a strong enough to cope with this
matter by himself. This also shows the poets frame of mind. It suggest the poet see it as love or
nothing and that he was obsessed with this girl. It gives an insight into his relationship with this
girl that it was only a one way thing, he really loved her but she didn t really love him and that s
why he is really upset. In the despairing lover, the idea we get of the setting is the Cliffside where
he wants to commit suicide. He chooses somewhere like a cliff to kill himself as it is a lot more
dramatic to jump of a cliff. This could also show us that the poet is maybe doing this for attention
and that he was never really going to kill himself but was just trying to make a scene this is another
insight into how the poet is thinking.
The setting also shows the time when the poem was written, as at that time it would be very
typical way to commit suicide by jumping of a cliff or a building. While in today s society, a
typical way to commit suicide would probably be to take an overdose of tablet or slit your wrists.
In addition, the idea of the poet committing suicide because of love tells us a lot about the poet.
You would expect that if anyone was going to kill themselves it would the woman out of the
relationship, as they are more in touch with there emotions. It is very much

The American Express Launched A Coalition Loyalty Program
Background
In May 15 American Express launched a Coalition loyalty program called Plenti. Members of
Plenti can earn and redeem points by shopping at participating merchants (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite
Aid and ATT.) The biggest challenge in launching the program was signing up merchants and
building an economic case for shifting away from proprietary programs.
As part of efforts, we were in negotiations with Rite Aid to join the program. Under their old loyalty
program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+UPs).The dollars could be used for
purchase within their store over next 2 weeks while in Plenti the points (1 point = 1 cent) are valid
for 3 years and can be redeemed at any participating merchant. Rite Aid was concerned that if ...

One option was to guarantee dollar value of points redeemed at Rite Aid However, in their old
loyalty program, all points were redeemed in their stores, so the guarantee had to be equal to their
point issuance. Rite Aid was planning to issue $75M worth of points so the proposal represented a
large risk.
Alternatively, we could have offered them exit rights linked with in store redemptions but that
would have created an uncertainty and would have been against spirit of coalition.
We finally proposed ratio of points redeemed at Rite Aid to Rite Aid issued points redeemed at
other sponsors would always be greater than 1. The ratio implied on Cash flow basis the program
will be neutral for Rite Aid. The proposal guarded us against slow adaptation and penalized only if
redemptions at Rite Aid were lower than other sponsors.
We did not have any data to inform the metrics. Even though we were confident about meeting the
metrics in the long term as Plenti envisioned signing earn only partners (where customers will earn
points, but will not redeem them) but in the short term it was a challenge to estimate it.
The proposed guarantee had two major drivers, firstly, how many Rite Aid issued points will be
redeemed in each year and secondly how many Rite Aid issued points would be redeemed at Rite
Aid vs. other merchants.
We used data from international loyalty programs (Nectar, Air miles) and estimated 80% of the
points

Generational Differences Essay
Generational Differences
Every generation is influenced by its period s economic, political and social events. From the
Great Depression to the civil rights and women s movements to the advent of television and
advanced computer technologies. Thus generational background/situation may also affect the way
they work. The key is to be able to effectively address and take advantage of the differences in
values and expectations of each generation in the workplace. The current work place consists of
four different generations; The Baby Boomers (1946 1964) who are slowly retiring and existing
the workforce, The Generation X (1965 1976), The Generation Y or millennia (1977 1997), and the
Generation Z who are about to or are just entering the work force. Although these different
generations tend to want similar things in a workplace their environment/background has shaped
their character, values, and expectations (Hahn 2011).
Baby Boomers perspective
According to Hahn (2011), baby boomers share the following background and characteristics:
Raised during a time of economic prosperity and optimism.
Grew up with a clear division of gender roles and low divorce rate.
Experience the Vietnam War, the Apollo 11 moon landing, and the civil right movement.
They are comfortable working in hierarchical organizations.
Demonstrate a strong sense of self, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
Expect life to revolve around work.
Prefer face to face meetings.

My Experience Of Gender As A Minority Male Of Saudi Arabia...
When I tell people, friends or family that I have to write a paper about my experience of gender,
they just laugh at that. They think there is not much to it. Nonetheless, my personal experience of
gender is rather a more complex than meets the eye. Having lived two patriarchal societies one
extreme and one that is drifting away from patriarchy I have had to deal with a lot. It is not all
advantage and privilege to be a heterosexual male, it has many negativities and pressures. Especially
if by your nature, you struggle to fit into the societal designated genderroles. In this paper, I will
reflect on my experience and struggle, as a minority male in Saudi Arabiaand the United States of
America. I will provide retrieve memories and incidents from my childhood and adolescence, I will
describe the everyday challenges and obstacles, and I will
To start with, I was born in Riyadh, the capital Saudi Arabia to a Hijazi Meccan family with
Central Asian Turkic origins from my father s side. My family had lived in the Hijaz area for
five generations, but then moved to Riyadh before I was born due to work. The Hijaz area in
Western Arabia was historically a cosmopolitan independent region, due to the ethnic and racial
diversity of its population, the Hijazi major cities were relatively more progressive and liberal
than the rest of Arabia. In the context of this paper, this is significant for many reasons, as a non

Comparing Story Of An Hour And The Lottery
Essay Assignment #1: Comparison of Story and Plot
An important aspect of literature that makes the difference between a suspenseful story and a
dull and predictable story is the dynamic use of plot. The quote by E.M. Forster that expresses
this idea is, The king died and then the queen died is a story. The king died, and then the queen
died of grief is a plot. Over the course of the term there have been a number of stories that have
touched upon this quote, those include The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and The Lottery by
Shirley Jackson. Both of these stories had interesting central ideas that are important to ponder
upon, but the path the author took to both central ideas were different. In the story, The Story of an
Hour, the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this story, it discusses the annual event where the entire community comes together to select
a name out of a black box, the person who is selected does not when anything rewarding, but is
selected to be stoned to death. Unlike in The Story of an Hour, this setting and piece is not built
off of the use of plot, but on the idea of telling a story through chronological order. This creates
an aspect where the story is predictable and arguably more dull than a story with a plot. This
aspect is created through the fact that a reader is able to predict and see what may take place do
to the use of chronological order of the story, because unlike The Story of an Hour where the story
does not follow a strict timeline, The Lottery must do so to maintain the use of story to make the
piece successful. Although the story itself is less suspenseful, the story is successful because it
able to express the central theme of asking why people do traditions strictly because their past
ancestors have by using chronological

Dress Code Analysis
According to Niche (2014), A recent survey from Lands End found that the number of public
schools with a dress code increased by 21 percent from 2000 to 2013. Most schools are getting
more and more strict with their dress code. Niche s (2014) website article states, On April 20,
1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire on their school in Littleton, Colo., killing 12
students and one teacher before turning their guns on themselves. After this tragedy, people looked
for answers and soon were drawn to the behaviors of Harris and Klebold, including their clothing,
which consisted of trench coats with pockets deep enough for weaponry. After this horrific attack,
many schools started to adjust their policies on what students were allowed... Show more content on

There were more than 1,000,000 total hip and knee replacements in the United States in 2010.1
Prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are a rare complication of joint replacements, estimated to be less
than 2% of cases, but result in significant morbidity and increased healthcare costs.2 Frequently, PJI
requires removal of the prosthesis and a prolonged course of IV antibiotics. It has been estimated
that the cost of one PJI is approximately $100,000 after a hip arthroplasty and $60,000 after a knee
arthroplasty.2 Perioperative prophylactic antibiotics for total joint replacements have been proven
to reduce rates of surgical site infections.2 3 It is recommended that prophylactic antibiotics are
administered within one hour prior to surgical incision and are discontinued within 24 hours
following the end of surgery.4 First generation cephalosporins, such as cefazolin, are the agents
most commonly utilized for antimicrobial prophylaxis in joint replacement procedures.2,5
Vancomycin may be used in addition to a first generation cephalosporin in institutions considered to
have a high rate of methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) surgical site infections. 2 If
there is local data to suggest gram negative pathogens as a cause of PJI then it is recommended to
consider the addition

Preliminary Hearing Research Paper
After an individual has been arrested and accused of committing a crime, he or she will face
arraignment, where he or she will enter a plea of guilty, no contest, or not guilty. Should the
individual enter a plea of not guilty, the court must decide whether to proceed with the case. This
process to determine whether a case should proceed to trial is called the preliminary hearing. The
preliminary hearing is often referred to as the trial before the trial, because it works much like a
regular criminal trial does. During a preliminary hearing, an accused individual and his or her
lawyer will present the defendant s case along with any evidence and witnesses that are available.
The prosecutor, which is the government, will also present its

The Law And The Judgement Of God
What is the law? Does it provide the necessary soteriological provision for those that uphold it
over the privileges found in faith? The Apostle Paul, who at one time was a staunch supporter of
this view of the law before his conversion now seeks to show the truth of what the Mosaic Law
has done and what its functions are in the age of the Messiah. Paul s argument of justification by
faith is stacked against the legalistic points of the traditions of the Mosaic Law and what it is that
provides peace with God. This paper will look at the components of Paul s view surrounding the
law and the judgement of God, the freedom from the law given through Christ, and the
responsibility blessings of Christian freedom from the law provide by... Show more content on

For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have
sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are
righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. 14 For when Gentiles, who
do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even
though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their
hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even
excuse them 16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by
Christ Jesus. (Romans 2:12 16) The Inclusivity of the Law Paul establishes the view that will
included the law and the judgement under it as an all inclusive understanding. He begins this
section with the division of judgement the law itself has brought: those that sin without the law
and those that sin under the law (v. 12). Paul is emphatic to his readers that those that have
sinned without the law will be judged without the law. His reference to the law is that of the law
established under the Mosaic covenant. His early narrative on the condition of the God s natural
revelation to man places those that are not privy to the Mosaic Law under judgement because
what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them (1:19). Paul
specifically calls out that God s

In the original plate maps, the individual properties were much smaller and over half of the

developer dropped the idea of equestrian community in favor of larger lots and a planned
development. Our POA was one of the very first community corporations in the State of Ohio. It
differs from a condo association in that each home is a fee simple property and you own the
inside, outside and the land surrounding your home. You are automatically a member of the POA
when you buy a property in Windrush Creek POA and as such there are certain rules that apply to
all properties in the association. Some of those rules are holdovers from the equestrian concept.
Because there were bridle paths around, behind and between each property, no fences were

Rubin The Hurricane Carter Essay
Analysis of The Film The Hurricane The movie that was analyzed was The Hurricane starring
Denzel Washington. The movie was based on a true story, which was about a boxer who was
wrongfully accused for murders he did not commit. Rubin Carter had been a victim of racial
prejudice since the age of 11. From that time on he had been haunted by the racial prejudice that
would take most of his natural life away from him. At the age of fifty he ended up going to the
Supreme courts to get his trial heard and at this time he was set free. This is a short summary
leaving a lot to be unsaid, but I believe the portrayal will tell most of the story in itself. In the

Although the genre of music is fairly new, the idea of rap is very old. What is classified as rap
and hip hop music was created thousands of years ago. Ancient African storytellers or groits used
handmade instruments while communicating their stories in a fashion similar to what is seen as
modern day rap music. The concept of speaking over music is rap music in its most rudimentary
form. Rap has been created to provide an outlet for individuals to expose injustices, the artist s
thoughts and feelings of oppression, and their reaction to a dominant culture. They present those
ideas in an artistic medium to a wide audience, those within their community and those far from it.
Most commonly, rap aims to expose and comment on socio political injustices, nationalism, or self
esteem. The rap genre was originally created by men, however female involvement; Salt N Pepa,
Queen Latifah and MC Lyte were some of the first female rappers, emerging on the previously male
dominated scene in the 1980 s. Although the genre is typically male dominated, the involvement of
women is bringing a new perspective and vision to the genre, instead of using blatant machismo,
their life experiences as women are tied throughout their lyrics.

In The Heart Of The Sea Analysis
In the time of The Essex and In the Heart of the Sea, Nantucket had a population of about 7,000,
most of the population living along a road on a rising hill marked with windmills and church
steeples. At the waterfront, four large docks extended more than 100 yards into the sea from the
harbor. Tied up to these docks were typically 15 to 20 whaleships, along with dozens of other small
fishing boats and ships that carried trade goods to and from the island. The first whalingboats were
only 20 feet long, launched from beaches along the island s south shore. Usually a boat would

They found their new target in that of the sperm whale. The oil found in the sperm whale s
blubber was far superior to that of the right whale found around Nantucket, providing a brighter
and cleaner burning light, but its block shaped head contained a much larger reservoir of this
oil. This is where the wealth of the island came from, nowadays Nantucket has a population of
about 20,000 which, during the summer, increases to about 50,000. The evidence of the island s
former glory can still be seen along the upper reaches of the town s Main Street, where the
cobbles dip and rise like the sea and where the houses evoke the humble spirituality of the island s
Quaker past. The whaling business of the 1800 s gave Nantucket it s incredible wealth. An average
house in Nantucket costs more than in other vacation destinations such as Long Island s Hamptons,
with much of the population living there only part time. Nantucket still has a large pull towards
the ocean, with a large harbor and fishing boats coming and going. Yet whaling is a thing of the
past due to fishing regulations and laws, so without this Nantucketers embrace the island s past and

How Did George Eastman Revolutionize The Photography...
George Eastman was born July 12, 1854 in Waterville, New York. A few years after finishing he
moved to Rochester, New York. In 1880 he started his own business, the Eastman Dry Plate and
Film Company. He started the company after he perfected a process of making dry plates for
photography (Britannica, George Eastman). Eight years later, Eastman designed a camera that was
perfect for the amateur photographers. Things changed dramatically in 1888 when George
Eastman introduced the Kodak camera. A small hand held box, it cost only $25 about the price
of a higher end iPad in today s money, which put it in the range of the well off middle class. And
it offered simplicity: It arrived with 100 shots preinstalled, and when they were taken you shipped
the entire camera back to Eastman s factory in Rochester, New York, where workers developed the

The Market For Purchasing And Selling Houses Collapsed
In 2008, the market for purchasing and selling houses collapsed. Previous to 2008, speaking
specifically between 2000 to 2006, many housing loan companies were offering a low interest
rates, which lead to many lenders approving loan applications to individuals who had low or poor
credit. When the collapse began, the once low interestrates increased dramatically, causing many of
those individuals were unable to keep up with their payments, which resulted in the foreclosure of
their homes. To the extent of this dilemma, many banks went bankrupt, which lead to a number of
Wall Street firms in taking a loss.
It seems unethical for lenders to approve a Subprime loan, or a high interest loan issued to
individuals that have poor credit score. It is to be understood that the lender will initiate a higher
interest rate to those individual(s) to protect the lender themselves in the event that a nonpayment
may occur. How does that affect the individual(s)? How is it feasible for a lender to charge high
interest rates to a person with low credit score?
This affects the person(s) that were approved immensely. There are many different types of
homebuyers and there are many reasons for individuals to have low credit scores. For the sake of
this essay, the focus will be on lower income individuals that are money smart , who could not
build credit due to the fact that they have never been able to take out a serious loan.
The silver lining for the lenders is that no matter how low the

gathering information, understanding relationship dynamics and behavioral patterns, promoting the
client s self understanding, conducting assessments, and guiding the practitioner to interventions

Iran And The Iranian Hostage Crisis
In 1979, the Iranian hostage crisis would occur; this event would damage and sever ties between

Former President Ahmadinejad set Iran back years by putting Iran into extreme isolation from the
international community. His continued badgering with the international community, eventually
lead to a nuclear stand off with world powers. With what seems to be the Ayatollah s blessing,
President Rouhani has so far shown promise to ease the country s relations and assume a solution
on the nuclear issue. For Washington, meanwhile, the election offered stark confirmation that its
strategy is working, at least to a point. The outcome confirmed that political will for a nuclear deal
exists within the Islamic Republic. In other words, the path out of isolation and economic crisis is
perilous, but Iran s new president, who has sometimes been dubbed the sheikh of diplomacy, may
just be the right man at the right moment to walk it. (Maloney, 2013)
If President Rouhani can bring his country out of sanctions, resume oil exports and trade, they can
become a functioning country again. Although, there is a slim chance that Iran doesn t continue to
support terrorist organizations and continue nuclear enrichment in some capacity. As long as
President Rouhani remains president, it is expected that he will do as much as possible to continue

Ka Bar Lake Effect Ice Scraper
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IJWR7ZWb
The Lake Effect Ice Scraper features a hard plastic blade which will glide smoothly across your
windshield, removing snow and ice in practically no time at all.
Pros
American Made
If you want to purchase an American made car scraper, the Ka Bar Lake Effect is one of only a
few available. There are a number of reasons one might chose an American made car scraper over
one manufactured elsewhere. For a start, doing so will stimulate the American economy.
Furthermore, employees in Chinese factories where many other car scrapers are manufactured are
often underpaid and poorly treated.
Doubles as a Weapon
I guess you could say all car scrapers double as a weapon, but the Ka Bar Lake Effect Ice Scraper
was specifically designed to be used as a self defense tool when not ridding windshields of ice.
Cons
Funds Production of Hunting Tools
If you are a fan of hunting, this probably won t be too much of an issue for you. However, car
owners who are against hunting for sport should note that Ka Bar also manufacturers hunting
equipment, meaning a portion of the money spent on this car scraper will likely go into funding the
production of further hunting

Tension in the Movie, Phone Booth Essay
The film Phone Booth is a morality thriller directed by Joel Schumacher who is also a
screenwriter and film producer. The film was scheduled to be released on the 15th November

Therefore, New York is represented as a very crowded city with a lot of things happening.
Moreover, it seems an extremely loud city with people rushing everywhere and minding their own
business.
The main character Stu Shepard (Colin Farrell) is represented as a very arrogant and popular
man. He comes across as very cocky and a con man. Furthermore, when we first see him the camera
is looking up on him. This makes him seem very important and big.
The scenes The Caller and Exposed start to build tension to the film by using some very clever
effects and media techniques. Firstly, the soundtrack helps build a sense of fear by playing eyrie
music, this creates tension, plus the music is playing irregularly so tension is building all the time.
Moreover, the irregular music creates tension in certain places of the film to emphasise the fear at
that particular moment. This means tension is constantly building. Furthermore, the normal sounds
that you would hear in a city are muffled and there aren t many of them so you can stay focused
on the phone booth. Moreover, The Caller s voice is much louder than usual, this makes it look as
though he knows he has the power over Stu and that he has him wrapped round his finger.
Secondly, the variety of camera angles makes it feel like he s being. They also change very
suddenly which creates tension because you don t know where he is being watched from because

The Importance of Continuing Professional Development in...
This essay aims to discuss the importance of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within a
National Health Service (NHS) medical imaging department; and how it contributes to delivering
high quality patient centred care. It will include any associated advantages and/or disadvantages to
the NHS and imaging department; and discuss the impact of compulsory CPD associated with
management and service delivery. Finally, radiography specific examples of CPD currently
documented within the NHS will we stated with suggestions for increased uptake of CPD within

An essential element of CPD is being able to reflect and learn from experiences, including service
failures (SCoR, 2005: 1). Understanding why something has happened and implementing a
positive change in practice, as a result, will contribute to continual improvement in services
systems (RCR, 2006: 10). Gibbs (2011: 2) suggests that CPD helps the NHS comply with local and
national strategies, in addition to quality monitoring and good governance. This helps provide
patient safety whilst minimising medical negligence penalties; in 2008 2009 alone the claims
against the NHS were ВЈ769 million (Shekar, 2010: 31).
The Agenda for Change resulted from a workforce crisis, resulting from low staff morale, lack of
professional progression and unchallenging careers. The importance of lifelong learning was
recognised as being pivotal in addressing these issues (Jones and Jenkins, 2007: 10). It
introduced a four tier structure, incorporating a competency based system for continual learning,
the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF); this provided fair CPD access to all (Gould et al,
2007: 27). Within the imaging department it promoted, encouraged and expedited role
development and generated new radiographic roles (Woodford, 2005: 321). It was highlighted that
in order to meet service needs and radiographer aspirations role development was necessary

The Role Of Discrimination In Canadian Law
Over the years there has always been deferential standards dividing men and women in the eyes of
the law, and stunting the ability to gain prestige titleship within major careers. The term feminist
Jurisprudence is the philosophy of law based on the political and ethical dividend of social equality

Eugene Warburg Essay
Sculptor, Eugene Warburg started his artistic career as a marble cutter, which is a commonality
that he has with Foy; another commonality is that both of them are sons of a white father and a
free woman of color. At first, Warburg studied in New Orleans under his mentor Philippe
Garbeille, but eventually, he decided that he wanted to travel to Paris to further his knowledge in
his studies (Leininger Miller, 2001). In order for Warburg to travel to France, his mother needed to
sell her slaves, so he may continue his studies overseas. Unlike the other two artists, he loved
Europe so much that he decided to make it his permanent home; he also became the first expatriate
African American artist. After the death of Warburg, this marked the end of

For example, Stovall states, Paris in those years held its arms wide open to the adventurous and
young at heart, welcoming people of talent and imagination from throughout the world...
(Stovall, 2012) From this small excerpt, Stovall s work shows that Paris accepted people
regardless of their color, race, and ethnicity. In other words, Paris held its doors open for young
African American artists, so they may expand and share their creativity with the rest of France;
black creativity was showing all over Paris in different forms (Stovall, 2012). To further expand
on this, writers came to the capital, so they may obtain personal experience and literary attributes.
As for painters and sculptors, they came to Paris for its reputation of being the center of art; they
spent time in the city s ateliers (Stovall, 2012). Even for athletes, many traveled here because it is
one of the few opportunities that were also presented in Paris. What made Paris look like a safe
haven for minorities compared to the United States is that minorities had freedom here without any
limitations; they traveled here to eliminate racism from the big picture. Another reason that made
Paris a safe haven is that African Americans did not have to change their identities in order to fit in
with the public; they were free to be themselves and even create their own community in

Peanut Butter Puffs
When I wake up every morning at 5:00 am, I just lay around in bed, protected by my soft heated
blanket. 5:30, off goes the next alarm. 5:45 comes around and I hit the off button again. I m
getting highly annoyed, but that is what is supposed to happen, so I get off my lazy butt. 6:00
and the final alarm goes off. I get that feeling in my stomach where I just want to scream. I do
this to myself every morning, then after that final alarm, it takes me 15 more minutes to
eventually give up the safety of my bed, and get on with whatever the day brings me. Slipping
on my grey slippers and M M robe, for of course, the safety of warmth, I go off into the darkness

Nozick s Theory Of False Reality
Our perception of the world around us is entirely dependant on the validity of reality. Our world
could be produced or simulated by some sort of machine, or life is actually just a dream
someone dreamt up one night. Reality is dependent on our perception, which is affected by what
truly exists. Meaning that if we, as a single person, are the only thing that actually exists, then
that proves that reality is indeed not real. But considering this point is considered Solipsism,
there s enough evidence to go against it. Disproving solipsism is the key to support the idea that
reality is real. The philosophical theory of a false reality can be traced all the way back to Plato s

And if that is the case, then there is a good chance that other people don t exist as well. Of course,
even if the world around us isn t true, humanity could all be under the same illusion. As Hilary
Putnam puts it, Instead of having just one brain in a vat, we could imagine that all human beings
(perhaps all sentient beings) are brains in a vat (or nervous systems in a vat in case some beings
with just nervous systems count as sentient ). Of course, the evil scientist would have to be outside?
or would he? Perhaps there is no evil scientist, perhaps (though this is absurd) the universe just
happens to consist of automatic machinery tending a vat full of brains and nervous systems. This
time let us suppose that the automatic machinery is programmed to give us all a collective
hallucination, rather than a number of separate unrelated hallucinations. Thus, when I seem to

A Study On The Strategy Estimation
The next strategic estimating method is to undertake the expert judgmental estimation since this
particular project estimation method is driven around taking expert opinion and by understanding
the strategic project requirements.
The results are fast since expert opinion is driven through various elements while accuracy of
estimations is not always certain due to project complexity. The experts are pooled from operations,
business and management team so as to drive the right level of estimation knowledge for any given
project as per the business strategic requirement. The expert judgment estimation is done for
relatively simple and repetitive projects so that there is not much data complexity.

The vendor undertakes the following key strategic approach to enable the project estimations:
The cost analysis is done on the basis of various vendors pricing for each of the component or
services provided.
The exposes risks are highlighted since each element for project is procured through vendors.
Drives estimations on the basis of calculating average or better price from number of vendor bid.
The vendor bid analysis suits the need whenever all the material or resources are deployed from
third party vendors and project is managed by internal team. This is one of strategic approach to
enable better efficiency.
3.3.8.Reserve Analysis
This is one of fundamental strategic technique for conducting the estimates on the basis of reserve
analysis. The technique deploys the estimates on the basis of considering provisions to manage
uncertainties and risks through using a reserve pool of resources so as to do the best possible
performance deployment.
The reserve set of people enables managing the project since their cost can be relatively low and
able to drive the major project objectives and to meet strategic goals. This approach is used
whenever there is simple or less important project need to drive within controlled cost elements.
3.3.9.Bottom up Analysis
The Bottom Up analysis is a technique that is deployed to get the better project estimation accuracy,
however this estimation method required a project team to decompose the

Comparison Between Roman And Roman Empire
Spectacles in the Christian Roman Empire In the late fourth century, Roman society had changed in
two things: Christianity had become a powerful social, political, and religious force, and the
Roman spectacles had grown to enormous proportions. Even though the games were supported by
the emperors, those spectacles experienced some changes, especially because of a special
legislation that produced norms on their performance. Emperors made laws against paganism,
idolatry, and sacrifices. In 380, Theodosius declared Christianitythe official and only legitimate
religion of the Roman Empireand made all the activities of the imperial cult illegal. In 325,
Constantine had prohibited legal activity on Sunday; in 392, Theodosius also prohibited circus
games on Sunday; in 395, pagan holidays were no longer celebrated; in 409, no spectacles were
held on Sunday ; and by 425, the games were celebrated according to the Christian calendar. This
legislation emphasized something that the Fathers of the Church had asked for centuries: to end the
idolatrous aspect of the games. The spectacles continued without any sacrifice to the pagan gods,
contrary to what had been happening the first centuries in the Empire. The spectacles were also
different in the way they were celebrated. By 425, there were no more gladiatorial combats because
after a law by Constantine in 325. Even though at that time that law was not enforced, later those
combats disappeared. Another aspect that worried the

Era Of Good Feelings Dbq Analysis
There had been a war between Britain and America, it was known as the War of 1812. This war
was the turning point of America because it had soon led the nation to an Era of Good Feelings.
The Era of Good Feelings is an ironic name because during this time period (1815 1825), it
promoted both sectionalism and nationalism. Although some felt strongly for one way, there were
some people who were in the middle and not exactly which sure they agreed with most.Nationalism
is the unification of a country, and it shows how the country, and how it shouldn t be split up. We
are under the most imperious obligation to counteract every tendency to disunion (doc B).

The agriculturists bear the whole brunt of the war and taxation, and remain poor, while the others
run in the rings of pleasure, and fatten upon them (doc A). This shows that even financially there
was a split because the manufacturers in the North were enjoying their life, while those in the
South were struggling because they were the ones helping with the damage that was made from the
war. Another way the nation was split up was through their states and how the population had
varied in the states. Document E shows that although the state had ranges of population, there
were are states that obviously have more than others, meaning the North has way more than the
South. Lastly, in Document I the states had been split in a way they view politics. In 1820, it s
evident how they were unified with voting, but come 1824 the votes had been scattered. The
reason being was because of the different opinions on slavery. The southern region was primarily
pro slavery while the north was anti slavery. Come the time of the voting, Andrew Jackson, a
candidate from that the South had wanted to win, had won. Their vote was honestly on whoever
would allow them to keep slaves, which was

The Pros And Cons Of Global Inequality
Global inequality is the state that the world s circumstances are unequal. Many people around the
world are facing this global issue happening. Throughout history, it is seen that ,all the provinces
in the world, have varying degrees of poverty. For my report, I will be focusing on Nepal (Asia) .
Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is home to Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the
world, and another 7 mountains which are among the ten tallest mountains. Nepal s capital city is
Katmandu. I will be comparing Nepal to Australia. Australia (Commonwealth of Australia) is an
island country (Oceania). Surrounded by the Pacific and Indian oceans, it is the largest country in
Oceania and 7th largest country in the world. Australia s capital is Canberra but its economical
capital is Sydney. There are many essential aspects of life which include; income, education,
food and water, health and shelter. Income is money received, especially on a regular basis, for
work or through investments. The weekly income of a laborer in Australia is $622.20 ($476.11
USD) whereas a Nepalese laborer would make 2000 NPR ($19.31 USD) . Education is the process
of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. The expected
amount of schooling years in Nepal is 12.2 years. Now, compare that to 20.4 years in Australia. The
average cost of living in Australia is $2835 ($2169.31 USD) while the cost of living in Nepal is

  • 2. Veiled Sentiments Essay VEILED SENTIMENTS Honor and Poetry in a Bedouin Society (Critique) The book, Veiled Sentiments: Honor and Poetry in a Bedouin Society, by author and anthropologist, Lila Abu Lughod, who is best known for her work on women s issues in the middle east, presents two years of fieldwork in Egypt among the Awlad Ali Bedouincommunity who have gone from living a nomadic lifestyle , a farming system where animals are transported from one area to another in search for fresh grazing land, to living in villages where smuggling, raising animals, and doing odd jobs are ways of supporting themselves. In the book, Abu Lughod brings together the concepts of structure, hierarchy, ideology, and discourse to illustrate the Bedouin culture, and how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (p.79) When reading Veiled Sentiments, I got the impression that the existing social hierarchy among the Awlad Ali was based on gender, age, wisdom, and wealth, Women are always dependent, and В…the powerful have obligations and responsibilities to protect and care for the weak. The weaker members epitomized by the helpless infant, and by extension all children. (p.80 81) Abu Lughod did a good job depicting the ways that the social hierarchy works, by including terminology such as wliyya, and by vividly describing situations where women, and children seemed weaker than the adult males in the community, who in most situations appeared to be the head of households. The author also goes further into the ideals of the Awlad Ali by discussing the relations between female modesty (hasham), natural inferiority , and sexuality. She depicts the ideal woman in the eyes of the Bedouin people, describing her as soft spoken, and well behaved, and with no open thoughts on sexuality. Apart from discussing the importance of hasham in a woman, Abu Lughod points out that emotion of love and affection between men and women is a taboo. Men that show emotion towards a woman are seen to be weak and are shunned upon by their male peers, as well as women in the community. Women claim, for instance, that real men control all their dependents and beat their wives when the wives do stupid things ( p.89) . In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Waikato War Of 1863-1864 A Key conflict that endures as one of the most noteworthy events in New Zealand s early history is the Waikato war of 1863 1864. The significance of the battles lies in the definition of the status of Maori and Pakeha in New Zealand. Particular historic debate surrounds whether the Waikato war was caused more primarily over the dispute of land or sovereignty. Maori were rising against British control and domination over them exhibited by establishment of the Kingitanga movement and the resistance to land sales. Responding in a way they saw that they had the right British invaded the Waikato. The outcomes of these events still hold debate and controversy in the regions of occurrence even today. With large loss of lives on both sides directly from the clashes, as Maori retained their pride refused to surrender to the British s superior technology. New laws were passed as a result of the resistance involving shameless policy s which marginalised Maori and there rights further. The consequences of this warwere drawn out until the late 20th, when finally reparations were made in full. Evidence of potential disputes over land and sovereignty had been prevalent since the early contact between Maori and Pakeha, over these early origins of the issues generated the signing of the Treaty in an attempt resolve the surrounding issues. But in fact the contestability of the treaty itself and from the translation variance between the Maori and English versions rose up many more issues ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Advantage And Disadvantage Of Polymers CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Composite materials are the engineering materials made from two or more constituent materials they remain separate and distinct on a macroscopic level but forming a single component or Composites can defined as materials that consist of two more chemically and physically different phases separated by a distinct interface(matrix phase and dispersed phase). The different systems are combined judiciously to achieve a component with more and more useful structural or functional properties non attainable by any of the constituent alone. Matrix phase is the primary phase having a continuous character. Matrix is usually more ductile and less hard phase. It holds the dispersed phase and shares a load with it. Dispersed (reinforcing) phase is embedded in the matrix in a discontinuous form. This secondary phase is called the dispersed phase. Dispersed phase is usually stronger than the matrix, therefore, it is sometimes called reinforcing phase. Composites, the wonder materials are becoming an essential part of today s materials due to their advantages such as low weight, corrosion resistance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, polymers are also known for their low thermal conductivity, relatively high flammability, most often accompanied by the production of corrosive or toxic gases and smoke during combustion. Consequently, improving the thermal properties and fire retardant behaviour of polymers is a major challenge for extending their use to most applications. The most of the polymers have thermal conductivity less than 0.5 W/m K. Improved thermal conductivity in polymers may be achieved either by changing their molecular orientation or by the addition of conductive fillers. It has been found that interfacial thermal conductance between fillers and polymer matrix is crucial to the thermal transport in composites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Does Area 51 Exist Introduction Over the years, Area 51 has developed a very mysterious reputation and it is confirmed that Area 51 is in fact real because President Obama actually acknowledged it in one of his speeches, but nobody knows what for sure goes on inside the compound because the CIA is very secretive with all of its experiments, location, and how they keep all the different theories remaining a mystery. In this paper you will find some information about how Area 51does exist, and learn about some of its experiments and what they actually use the compound for. • 6. Examples Of Mock Epic And Rape Of The Lock Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. In the The Rape of the Lock there is an invocation to Muses, proposition of subject, battles, supernatural machinery, and journey on water, underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric similes and grand style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand action of a low subject produces comical laughter and makes the story more absurd. The subject matters in both of the epic poems are grand. Like the epic poems, the poem The Rape of the Lock opens with the proposition of the subject matter and invocation to the Muses to help him create... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ritual sacrifices the Baron performs in the pre dawn hours are another mock epic element of the poem, mimicking the epic tradition of sacrificing to the gods before an important battle or journey. The fact that he discards all his other love tokens in these preparations reveals his untrustworthiness as a lover. An epic poem must contain episodes also. In the poem Rape of the Lock, Pope has introduced the episodes of the game of Omber which suggests the powerful battle and the cards involve the soldiers described in great detail. There is also the battle between lords and ladies just like the battle in epic poem. But in mock epic this battle is fought with fans and snuff instead of with swords and spears. There are single fight between Belinda and Baron and between Clarissa and Sir Plume. Another vital element of an epic is the active participation of supernatural machinery like god and goddesses. In The Rape of the Lock, there are sylphs and gnomes. These aerial spirits are small and insignificant things and are therefore, exactly in keeping with the triviality of the ... Ann Lander. Empty nest syndrome is a psychological condition faced by most of the parents after a certain point of time in their lives when their children leave them for their higher education, marriage. This condition is most common in mothers since they are the ones who have spent almost eighteen to nineteen years of their life with their children growing them from toddlers to teen. Hasan Manzar s The Cactus is a very well written story throws the light upon the universal experience which the whole world is facing from the past thousands of decades. The story brings out the life of an old couple. A familyof three daughters, two sons, and seven grandchildren, couple living in huge well nestled house and the irony is that in this mammoth house there was no one living except the old sensitive couple. Sensitive here refers to the scene where they have created a hole in the eave allowing the cactus to grow. Attitudes Towards Love in Pre-1900 and 1990 s Poetry Essay Attitudes Towards Love in Pre 1900 and 1990 s Poetry The Despairing Lover written by William Walsh was written pre 1900 whilst the second poem I Wouldn t Thank you for a Valentine by Liz Lockhead was written in the 1990 s. These poems are almost a century apart. Attitude towards love changes over time and these poems represent this. I Wouldn t Thank you for a Valentine is about how people think about Valentine s Day in the 1990 s, while The Despairing Lover is showing what people think and how important they see love in the 1990 s. In The Despairing Lover William Walsh sets out the poem like a story with a beginning a middle and an end. This narrative structure of the poem gives the poem three clear stages this making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This enables me to come to the conclusion that the poet isn t a strong enough to cope with this matter by himself. This also shows the poets frame of mind. It suggest the poet see it as love or nothing and that he was obsessed with this girl. It gives an insight into his relationship with this girl that it was only a one way thing, he really loved her but she didn t really love him and that s why he is really upset. In the despairing lover, the idea we get of the setting is the Cliffside where he wants to commit suicide. He chooses somewhere like a cliff to kill himself as it is a lot more dramatic to jump of a cliff. This could also show us that the poet is maybe doing this for attention and that he was never really going to kill himself but was just trying to make a scene this is another insight into how the poet is thinking. The setting also shows the time when the poem was written, as at that time it would be very typical way to commit suicide by jumping of a cliff or a building. While in today s society, a typical way to commit suicide would probably be to take an overdose of tablet or slit your wrists. In addition, the idea of the poet committing suicide because of love tells us a lot about the poet. You would expect that if anyone was going to kill themselves it would the woman out of the relationship, as they are more in touch with there emotions. It is very much ... • 10. The American Express Launched A Coalition Loyalty Program Background In May 15 American Express launched a Coalition loyalty program called Plenti. Members of Plenti can earn and redeem points by shopping at participating merchants (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid and ATT.) The biggest challenge in launching the program was signing up merchants and building an economic case for shifting away from proprietary programs. As part of efforts, we were in negotiations with Rite Aid to join the program. Under their old loyalty program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+UPs).The dollars could be used for purchase within their store over next 2 weeks while in Plenti the points (1 point = 1 cent) are valid for 3 years and can be redeemed at any participating merchant. Rite Aid was concerned that if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One option was to guarantee dollar value of points redeemed at Rite Aid However, in their old loyalty program, all points were redeemed in their stores, so the guarantee had to be equal to their point issuance. Rite Aid was planning to issue $75M worth of points so the proposal represented a large risk. Alternatively, we could have offered them exit rights linked with in store redemptions but that would have created an uncertainty and would have been against spirit of coalition. We finally proposed ratio of points redeemed at Rite Aid to Rite Aid issued points redeemed at other sponsors would always be greater than 1. The ratio implied on Cash flow basis the program will be neutral for Rite Aid. The proposal guarded us against slow adaptation and penalized only if redemptions at Rite Aid were lower than other sponsors. We did not have any data to inform the metrics. Even though we were confident about meeting the metrics in the long term as Plenti envisioned signing earn only partners (where customers will earn points, but will not redeem them) but in the short term it was a challenge to estimate it. The proposed guarantee had two major drivers, firstly, how many Rite Aid issued points will be redeemed in each year and secondly how many Rite Aid issued points would be redeemed at Rite Aid vs. other merchants. We used data from international loyalty programs (Nectar, Air miles) and estimated 80% of the points ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Generational Differences Essay Generational Differences Every generation is influenced by its period s economic, political and social events. From the Great Depression to the civil rights and women s movements to the advent of television and advanced computer technologies. Thus generational background/situation may also affect the way they work. The key is to be able to effectively address and take advantage of the differences in values and expectations of each generation in the workplace. The current work place consists of four different generations; The Baby Boomers (1946 1964) who are slowly retiring and existing the workforce, The Generation X (1965 1976), The Generation Y or millennia (1977 1997), and the Generation Z who are about to or are just entering the work force. Although these different generations tend to want similar things in a workplace their environment/background has shaped their character, values, and expectations (Hahn 2011). Baby Boomers perspective According to Hahn (2011), baby boomers share the following background and characteristics: Raised during a time of economic prosperity and optimism. Grew up with a clear division of gender roles and low divorce rate. Experience the Vietnam War, the Apollo 11 moon landing, and the civil right movement. They think there is not much to it. Nonetheless, my personal experience of gender is rather a more complex than meets the eye. Having lived two patriarchal societies one extreme and one that is drifting away from patriarchy I have had to deal with a lot. It is not all advantage and privilege to be a heterosexual male, it has many negativities and pressures. Especially if by your nature, you struggle to fit into the societal designated genderroles. In this paper, I will reflect on my experience and struggle, as a minority male in Saudi Arabiaand the United States of America. I will provide retrieve memories and incidents from my childhood and adolescence, I will describe the everyday challenges and obstacles, and I will To start with, I was born in Riyadh, the capital Saudi Arabia to a Hijazi Meccan family with Central Asian Turkic origins from my father s side. My family had lived in the Hijaz area for five generations, but then moved to Riyadh before I was born due to work. The Hijaz area in Western Arabia was historically a cosmopolitan independent region, due to the ethnic and racial diversity of its population, the Hijazi major cities were relatively more progressive and liberal than the rest of Arabia. • 13. Comparing Story Of An Hour And The Lottery Essay Assignment #1: Comparison of Story and Plot An important aspect of literature that makes the difference between a suspenseful story and a dull and predictable story is the dynamic use of plot. The quote by E.M. Forster that expresses this idea is, The king died and then the queen died is a story. The king died, and then the queen died of grief is a plot. Over the course of the term there have been a number of stories that have touched upon this quote, those include The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. Both of these stories had interesting central ideas that are important to ponder upon, but the path the author took to both central ideas were different. This creates an aspect where the story is predictable and arguably more dull than a story with a plot. This aspect is created through the fact that a reader is able to predict and see what may take place do to the use of chronological order of the story, because unlike The Story of an Hour where the story does not follow a strict timeline, The Lottery must do so to maintain the use of story to make the piece successful. Most schools are getting more and more strict with their dress code. Niche s (2014) website article states, On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire on their school in Littleton, Colo., killing 12 students and one teacher before turning their guns on themselves. After this tragedy, people looked for answers and soon were drawn to the behaviors of Harris and Klebold, including their clothing, which consisted of trench coats with pockets deep enough for weaponry. Background There were more than 1,000,000 total hip and knee replacements in the United States in 2010.1 Prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are a rare complication of joint replacements, estimated to be less than 2% of cases, but result in significant morbidity and increased healthcare costs.2 Frequently, PJI requires removal of the prosthesis and a prolonged course of IV antibiotics. It has been estimated that the cost of one PJI is approximately $100,000 after a hip arthroplasty and $60,000 after a knee arthroplasty.2 Perioperative prophylactic antibiotics for total joint replacements have been proven to reduce rates of surgical site infections.2 3 It is recommended that prophylactic antibiotics are administered within one hour prior to surgical incision and are discontinued within 24 hours following the end of surgery.4 First generation cephalosporins, such as cefazolin, are the agents most commonly utilized for antimicrobial prophylaxis in joint replacement procedures.2,5 Vancomycin may be used in addition to a first generation cephalosporin in institutions considered to have a high rate of methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) surgical site infections. 2 If there is local data to suggest gram negative pathogens as a cause of PJI then it is recommended to consider the addition ... The Apostle Paul, who at one time was a staunch supporter of this view of the law before his conversion now seeks to show the truth of what the Mosaic Law has done and what its functions are in the age of the Messiah. Paul s argument of justification by faith is stacked against the legalistic points of the traditions of the Mosaic Law and what it is that provides peace with God. For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. 14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them 16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. (Romans 2:12 16) The Inclusivity of the Law Paul establishes the view that will included the law and the judgement under it as an all inclusive understanding. He begins this section with the division of judgement the law itself has brought: those that sin without the law and those that sin under the law (v. 12). Paul is emphatic to his readers that those that have sinned without the law will be judged without the law. His reference to the law is that of the law established under the Mosaic covenant. His early narrative on the condition of the God s natural revelation to man places those that are not privy to the Mosaic Law under judgement because what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them (1:19). When the collapse began, the once low interestrates increased dramatically, causing many of those individuals were unable to keep up with their payments, which resulted in the foreclosure of their homes. Although, there is a slim chance that Iran doesn t continue to support terrorist organizations and continue nuclear enrichment in some capacity. Furthermore, when we first see him the camera is looking up on him. This makes him seem very important and big. Firstly, the soundtrack helps build a sense of fear by playing eyrie music, this creates tension, plus the music is playing irregularly so tension is building all the time. Moreover, the irregular music creates tension in certain places of the film to emphasise the fear at that particular moment. This means tension is constantly building. Furthermore, the normal sounds that you would hear in a city are muffled and there aren t many of them so you can stay focused on the phone booth. Understanding why something has happened and implementing a positive change in practice, as a result, will contribute to continual improvement in services systems (RCR, 2006: 10). Gibbs (2011: 2) suggests that CPD helps the NHS comply with local and national strategies, in addition to quality monitoring and good governance. The Agenda for Change resulted from a workforce crisis, resulting from low staff morale, lack of professional progression and unchallenging careers. The importance of lifelong learning was recognised as being pivotal in addressing these issues (Jones and Jenkins, 2007: 10). It introduced a four tier structure, incorporating a competency based system for continual learning, the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF); this provided fair CPD access to all (Gould et al, 2007: 27). Comparison Between Roman And Roman Empire Spectacles in the Christian Roman Empire In the late fourth century, Roman society had changed in two things: Christianity had become a powerful social, political, and religious force, and the Roman spectacles had grown to enormous proportions. Even though the games were supported by the emperors, those spectacles experienced some changes, especially because of a special legislation that produced norms on their performance. Emperors made laws against paganism, idolatry, and sacrifices. In 380, Theodosius declared Christianitythe official and only legitimate religion of the Roman Empireand made all the activities of the imperial cult illegal. In 325, Constantine had prohibited legal activity on Sunday; in 392, Theodosius also prohibited circus games on Sunday; in 395, pagan holidays were no longer celebrated; in 409, no spectacles were held on Sunday ; and by 425, the games were celebrated according to the Christian calendar. This legislation emphasized something that the Fathers of the Church had asked for centuries: to end the idolatrous aspect of the games. The spectacles continued without any sacrifice to the pagan gods, contrary to what had been happening the first centuries in the Empire. The spectacles were also different in the way they were celebrated. By 425, there were no more gladiatorial combats because after a law by Constantine in 325.
