The Restoration Of Grecian Philosophical Documents
The Preservation of Grecian Philosophical Documents Was an Important Islamic Contribution to
Western Civilization
Islamic preservation and translation of the Greek philosophical works of Aristotle, and Plato
contributed to the flourishing of Western civilization. Under the direction of Islamic cultural patrons,
they translated these vital texts from Greek into other languages. Such actions were significantly
contributive to the revival and transmission of these pieces, bringing about their subsequent spread
throughout Europe. Centuries of Islamic scholarship like this were crucial to the eventual emergence
of the European Renaissance Period.
The anterior exposure of the Arab world to Greek philosophy follows paths reaching back to the sixth
century C.E. A common occurrence among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, were their interactions
with Greek philosophy, and their attempts to reconcile their religious dogmas with the Greek
philosophical known truths of reason; trying to marry faith with reason. Commonalities between their
interactions produced a naturally occurring process of sharing respective religious and philosophical
problems, and it is in the latter that Islamic philosophers deserve much credit from Judaism and
Christianity, for the Abbasid caliphate s deference to translation and preservation of key Aristotelian
(and other) works long lost to the West. The irony of this sharing between religions remains that each
was using the similar material to try and prove

Radar In Ww2 Essay
Radar works by transmitting strong but short pulses of radio energy into the air in a certain direction
using whats called an antenna these pulses bounce off metallic objects such as ships or aircrafts they
bounce back to the antenna these signals are then converted to a signal which is shown on a screen.
Heinrich hertz in the late 19th century was experimenting and he showed that radio waves were
reflected by metallic objects. But It wasn t until the early 20th century that new systems were able to
use these principles. But it was the German inventor Christian Hülsmeyer used these principles to
create a ship detection advice to help avoid collisions in the fog the Reichspatent Nr. 165546. The

The very simplistic technology made it highly adaptable to war engineers and war scientists which
they found dozens of ways to use it. Planes played a minimal role in WW1 but as planes increased in
size and more bombs were invented it became a very clear threat, in WW2 battles were basically won
for the side to spot the where abouts of planes, ships and submarines it gave the allies or enemies an
edge so countries developed R.A.D.A.R this made enemies and allies alike to see hundreds of miles
even in the darkest of nights. There were no aerial, sea and land based battles that were Radar didn t

mobile radio station on the north side of Oahu had detected the approach of a Japanese aircraft the
operators of the station reported the sightings to their superiors but the reports were dismissed due to
them being inexperienced. If the reports were not ignored this could have prevented the attacks on
pearl harbor and could have significantly changed the history of ww2 as we know

Entanglement and Quantum Mechanics
Entanglement is one of the most fundamental and yet unintuitive concepts in quantum mechanics.
Maximally entangled two qubit states, often called Bell states, where shown to violate classical (local)
correlation properties [33, 34] and are an essential building block for quantum communication and
distributed quantum computation. Unfortunately, such entangled states are also difficult to generate
and sustain as interaction with a noisy environment typically leads to rapid loss of their unique
quantum properties. In the context of QSC, such an entanglement has been generated exploring
various types of interactions such as direct qubit qubit interaction [35, 36], coupling to a common
cavity mode [37] or photon mediated interactions for qubits embedded in a waveguide [38].
In this context, remote entanglement of spatially separated quantum systems have important im
plications in addressing the scaling problem for quantum information processing. Indeed, as a solution
to this scaling issue, we propose here to follow a modular approach where the quantum information is
encoded, protected and locally manipulated in small units consisting of a few cavity modes or/and few
qubits and the communication between modules is ensured through quantum teleportation techniques.
Sharing of a pair of entangled subsystems between two modules is central for these teleportation pro
tocols. While the isolation of the modules simplifies the scaling by avoiding any undesired cross talk
between the

Plato s Meno Constructs
In Meno, Plato argues that because information cannot be learned, but is instead recollected, then
learning is impossible. Plato constructs this claim by arguing:
(1) Either one already knows what one wants to learn, or one does not already know what one wants
to learn. (Premise)
(2) If one already knows what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise)
(3) If one does not already know what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise)
(4) Therefore, learning is impossible (CD,2,3)
The argument is valid, because the conclusion (4) can be derived from (2) and (3) using the
constructive dilemma rule. Plato s first premise appears to be true. In the

The Internal Conflict Of Man And Self
Stories have been written regarding the internal conflict of man and self. Within this conflict, man
struggles with his own moral compass or natural character flaws. This conflict leaves man with many
questions including questions concerning immortality and life in general. In the novel Frankenstein,
Mary Shelley writes about the revolving conflicts between the two characters, Victor Frankenstein and
his monster. Victor and his monster s motives are parallel throughout the novel. Both characters begin
searching for an identity, Victor for fame through science and the monster trying to find his role in
society. Genesis 1:27 from the New King James Version of the Bible states, So God created man in
His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (The Holy
Bible). Religion teaches that man was created to be a likeness to God and not a more perfect being. In
his essay, Jean Jacques Rousseau stated, Everything is good as it leaves the hands of the Author of
things; everything degenerates in the hands of man (Rousseau 205). Rousseau explains in his
document, that there is a natural goodness in man that can be nurtured and maintained, but man can be
easily corrupted. The novel Frankenstein, deals with the divisions between Victor Frankenstein and
the monster that he creates. Their struggles illustrate the haunting similarities between the creator and
the created. Rousseau and Shelley both write about the conflicts that man faces throughout

The Theory Of Social Space
The next key concept to come from Bourdieu s work is the field which, unlike habitus, exists outside
the minds of actors. The field is formally defined as a network of relations among the objective
positions within it. The occupants of these positions may be either agents or institutions and they are
both constrained by the structure of the field (Ritzer, 2004). Economic capital, which relates the
economy of the state, and cultural capital, which involves various kinds of acceptable knowledge are
two principles of differentiation which determine social space classifications. Accordingly, social
space is constructed in such a way that agents are distributed within it according to their position in
statistical distributions based on these two principles of differentiation (Bourdieu, 1998). It follows
that agents are distributed in this social space in such a way that the closer they are to one another, as
determined by those two principles of differentiation, the more they will likely have in common.
Occupants of positions within the field employ a variety of strategies, and again, the strategies of these
agents depend on their position in the field. This demonstrates that Bourdieu s actors possess less
freedom than Giddens s. While there are many differences between these two theories and theorists, I
have pointed out several similarities as both Giddens and Bourdieu presented a duality of structure,
and they both consider the issue of constraint on agents.

Nero s Domus Aurea And The Colosseum
The Colosseum has been standing for over 1900 years but before discussing the Colosseum s
achievements, it is important to understand the historical context and background of the building. How
can a place go from being a symbol of extreme tyranny and private wealth to a symbol of one of the
greatest entertainment venues and architectural feats? The Roman Colosseum did just that. It
completely changed the public attitude and activity since it was built upon the grounds of what was
once the part of Golden House of Nero (Domus Aurea). Although both Nero s Domus Aurea and the
Colosseum are architecturally supreme and complex, the area holds rich history of private decadent
excess to a public attraction making them supreme and complex in two different ways. Nero was the
fifth Roman emperor of the Julio Claudian line who ruled from 54 68 CE. Nero did ... Show more

was older than his stepbrother Britannicus and thus became heir to the throne. Agrippa did everything
in her power to ensure Nero s reign and control the government, eventually many people were killed
including Claudius. Nero was only seventeen when he became emperor in 54. Nero was not all bad, he
did things like eliminate secret trials, fixed some of the wrongdoing from the Claudius reign, initiated
poetry, theaters, and athletics. But, like a kid without consequences, Nero noticed he could do what he
wants without much retribution. Nero was popular with the crowds but after he forced Seneca to
commit suicide, he became an evil ruler.

Genetically Modified Organisms Or Gmos
The world is an ever changing place, full of people with constantly evolving ideas and innovations.
Humans have been designed to create and innovate; to explore the world around them and to solve
problems. One of these innovation scientists have been working with are genetically modified
organisms, or GMOs for short. The topic of GMOs is extremely controversial. There are those who
back it one hundred percent, and those who seek to see it destroyed. While much of GMOs fame
comes from the field of genetically modified foods, it is most certainly not limited to it. A quieter, and
perhaps more imaginary field of GMOs has to do with genetically modified pigs. Scientists have been
reworking the genes of some swine in order to make their tissue and organs usable for humans. In
other words, scientists have been trying develop a breed of pigs who can be used as tissue and organ
donors for people. While many people have expressed concerns for GMOs, genetically modified pigs,
as tissue donors for humans, may prove beneficial in the near future. Before being able to understand
genetically modified pigs and their benefits, it is vital to understand what GMOs are and how they
work. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, genetically modified organisms are organism[s]
whose genome[s] ha[ve] been engineered in the laboratory with the propose of bringing about
physiological traits or the production of desired biological products (Encyclopaedia Britannica). The

Psychodynamic Theory
Psychodynamic Theory Debate Janice Birdsong, Melissa Johnston, and Helene Torres Psy/405
November 10, 2014 Instructor Krasner Psychodynamic Theory Debate Jung and Klein, I think for the
purpose of this debate we get a quick description of your theories. Klein, let us start with you. In my
theory of object relation, we focus on the importance of the mother child relationship. My theory was
built on my interpretations of childhood during the first four to six months where most children begin
showing behavior traits toward specific people in their lives. Yes, my theory was built from Freud s
idea of instincts just as most psychoanalytical psychologists work, but my work emphasizes the
importance of interpersonal relationships, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe these archetypes are the importance of my theory. For instance, the persona archetype, the
part we are willing to share with others is the part of our personality and showcase to the world,
people are both introverted and extraverted; rational and irrational; male and female, conscious and
unconscious and pushed by past events while being pulled by future expectations (Feist amp; Roberts,
2013, p. 102). The darker part of a person is the shadow archetype. This is the part that comprises
what we tend to hide from both others and ourselves, which pertains to being scary, intolerable and
even malevolent. The other is known as the anima, which I feel is of a man s personality and portrays
his femininity, which would show his areas of sensitivity, consideration, sympathy and cordiality to
those around him, however it could be more unreasonable because of feelings. Looking in to the
women s masculine side of her personality is the animus, the other side I believe is the more balanced
and logical. With men there is such a stigma in how they are seen. Men dread to be seen in the
negative as weak both from others and from themselves because it is a contradiction of their
overemphasized persona of what men should be, therefore men try to hide their softer side (anima).
Klein, same to you, what are the pros of object relation? First, I believe the object relations theory
places less importance on biologically based drives and

forget the simple rules to grammar. Weird Al Yankovic has made a creative way of reminding us not to

material seem to stick with me longer than just copying notes down. He takes the song Blurred Lines
by pop star singer Robin Thicke, into changes it into a helpful grammar lesson. By using a well known
song, Weird Al gets the attention of listeners and engages their focus into the change of words. Along

visual of each. As a viewer, seeing both a possessive noun and a contraction, it makes a better clearing
of the difference between the two. A good example of how the music video has a big part in the
teaching is when Weird Al talks about diagramming. The sentence, learn to diagram a sentence too is
actually diagrammed out as he sings about it. Not only is he telling you that you need to know how to
diagram, but he s showing you how to diagram that specific sentence. Another example is when the
topic of figurative and literal language comes up. Weird Al has a drawn out image of what it would
mean if it were literally or figuratively meant. The example of this grammar rule was I literally can t

A Rhetorical Analysis of Violent Media is Good for Kids
From early childhood, parents, teachers, and other adults instill in us that violence is bad and
unethical. We can all agree that we should avoid certain forms of violent behavior if possible;
however, it is incorrect to assume that all forms of violence is bad. In his article Violent Media is
Good For Kids , Gerald Jones argues that creative violence such as gory video games, Comic books,
and play fighting give children tools to master rage and actually help more kids than they hurt. What
the author is saying here is correct because children use these types of influences in imaginary play at
a young age, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the Incredible Hulk was a ticking time bomb and completely out of control he was a sort of
Jekel and Mr. Hyde character. Timid geek, gone raging goliath if you must. Yes, he was out of control
and frightened tearing up everything in his path, but on the other side of that, he was also a caring
good hearted person that got a good enough handle on his destructive side that he became a hero and
started working with the Avengers. Jones is wrong to imply that the only reason these comics were
good for him was due to the violence alone. This was not a character like the Joker who just tortured
and corrupted people for a laugh and killed mercilessly, there is a reason the good guy always wins in
these comics, and that is to appeal to the children reading them and to instill that type of behavior.
Everybody loves a winner so when they make Batman or Superman triumph over The Joker or Lex
Luthor the authors are instilling the value that good triumphs over evil to their audience. This means
that while yes, they were good for him because they were violent and juvenile; they were also good
because they still had those messages of conquering the demon, or lose yourself but find yourself
again. Jones goes on to persuade us by using his son as an example.
I have watched my son living the same story transforming himself into a bloodthirsty dinosaur to
embolden himself for the plunge into preschool, a Power Ranger to muscle through a

The Secret Of Empathy, Enlightenment, And Internal Growth...
The Secret of Empathy, Enlightenment, and Internal Growth There are two senses of reality: external
and internal. External reality is an observable universe, but perspectives differ and thus cause different
opinions. To experience internal reality is to confuse one s own reality with a shared reality, resulting
in a loss of empathy and disregarding how others are affected. An external mindset displays an
understanding of different opinions in a shared world, whereas with internal mindset a person s
devotion to a belief becomes their private world. When a person is passionate about their beliefs they
tend to disregard other perspectives, or live internally. This is a common practice because, depending
upon upbringing, different moral values have been instilled in the person. Typically, people will not
partake in activities or actions that defy their morality, so they tend to align with others who share
similar values. However, people who are unwilling to think beyond their own beliefs lose their sense
of empathy. The more devoted a person is to their morals, the less empathy they might have. When we
look outside ourselves to other perspectives, we can better connect to an external rather than simply an
internal reality, approaching the world with an enlightened state of mind capable of both empathy and
consistent growth. A less narrow minded person is capable of accessing an external reality. Typically,
it seems that the more devout citizens are more closed minded. They

flight patterns to less fuel efficient paths.
Hope comes in the form of a progressive vision, one which will set Southwest above its peers in the
modernization of environmentally conscious advancement of aviation practices. Setting an example
by making commercial aviation operations sustainable and environmentally sound through the
implementation of innovative practices in air and ground operations for the betterment of the aviation
industry and the human race. This vision will lead to an industry benchmark in the effective, efficient,

this is a very ambitious vision, it is attainable through solid change strategy, focusing on existing

The main contributor to carbon emissions, and the primary factor of the environmental impact of
aviation, is jet engines. Two ways that an airline company can save on fuel expenses, and the
subsequent impact to the environment, is through altering takeoff procedures and investing in more

The ICRC Fundamental Principles Of The Red Cross
The ICRC Fundamental principles of the Red Cross s purpose is to respond to the suffering and needs
of individuals. The Red cross has developed seven principles: 1. Humanity: is to bring assistance
without being discriminate of others. The purpose of this principle is to reduce and ease the suffering a
human obtains. It protects the life and health of a human and it develops the understanding between
friends makes peace with people. 2. Impartiality: It does not discriminate against any race or religion
or opinions. It also attempts to reduce the suffering the individuals obtain by looking at the needs they
have and helping them with stressful situations. 3. Neutrality: You must not take any sides when
hostile conflicts happen and you must not become involved in political and religious disputes. 4.
Interdependence: When you act in ways with movement principles. They have to maintain and be free
from the control from self governments. The last three principles are Voluntary Service, Unity and
Universality. An example of unity is that there is one Red cross in one country and it is open to the
public. It also needs to continue the humanitarian work across its region. An example of Universality
is all populations are equal and have equal tasks when their helping one another.

Smallpox is considered as an acute contagious disease that is induced by the variola virus. It used to
be one of the world s most disastrous diseases known to mankind. The last known natural case was in
Somalia in 1977. It was declared eradicated in 1980 following a global immunization campaign led by
the World Health Organization. Several vaccination campaigns, surveillance and preventive measures
were held out, targeting the infected areas and affected communities. These approaches were
employed to combat the disease. The eradication strategy relied on routine and mass vaccination. The
eradication of smallpox is the extinction of virus by the synchronization of vaccination, rendering the

Presently, vaccines have an outstanding safety record and most vaccine scares are just false alarms or
myths. In that respect are several benefits when it comes to vaccination, which includes helping in
eradication, elimination and prevention of diseases, it helps in reducing mortality and morbidity rates
and other complications. Vaccines can help in increasing the life expectancy rates by protecting
against diseases. In developing countries vaccination programs are believed to be the cornerstones of
primary health care services. There are also certain limitation or risks to having vaccinations and its
side effects varies in different individuals. For instance, few people may endure from a mild reaction
to a certain vaccine and definitely it is short lived. It is far better to be safe than sorry. The hazards of
having serious infections or diseases that can be fatal is way greater than taking a chance of
experiencing a serious consequence. Using a vaccine is much cheaper compared to treating a serious
illness. The most severe allergic reaction following an administration of a vaccine is called an
anaphylactic reaction. The person may experience difficulty in breathing and sometime may collapse.
This is extremely rare and the vaccination staff is trained to deal with such events. These reactions are
completely reversible if treated promptly. The benefits of vaccination are

Rosalind Franklin and the Nobel Prize
In considering whether or not Rosalind Franklin should have been acknowledged, along with Watson,
Crick, and Wilkins, for the discovery of the double helix and awarded a Nobel Prize, one must look
what qualifies someone to win a Nobel Prize. In order for someone to be awarded the Nobel Prize they
must first meet the qualifications. The qualifications are endless, but somewhat simple. In this case the
Nobel Prize is for science. This prize is chosen by a group of people, and they seek to choose people
whom create different views of topics in the field they are studying. The main candidate is
consistently searching to find new ideas of the concerning topic, that could enhance the knowledge
that people already have on a problem or solution in the world. The Nobel Committee sends persons
who are believed to hold the qualifications of a Nobel Prize a form of proposal. The candidates are not
chosen at random, but are recommended by others who have excelled in their field of work. The other
nominations are not made public, but concealed for a period of 50 years (NobelPrize.org).
Franklin should be awarded the prize because her work is both philosophical and instrumental.
Although it is hard to determine to what lengths Franklin contributed philosophically to Watson s
double helix discovery, it is apparent that she contributed immensely in the sense of instrumental
work. With out Franklin, Watson would not have the X ray pictures that support the helical DNA

If so what? Should Nike make changes even if they hinder the ability of the company to compete?
Nike needs to ensure that all the contractors comply with the wages and local working conditions in
respective countries. Nike can do this either by appointing a labor inspector in each of the factories for
all the contractors and asking them to report the details of all the workers working in their respective
factories and this report need to be reviewed by legal experts at the country level and worldwide level
to ensure that all the laws are in compliance by contractors of Nike. Any non compliance should be
considered seriously and serious actions should be taken against all such contractors, which might
result in termination of contracts with such factories. In fact, Nike should go ahead and open schools
for children of workers working in their factories across different countries to take care of the
developments of its workers across the globe. Nike should make such changes even if this means
termination of contracts with non compliance factories or more expenses for development of workers

The Basic Function Of A Police Officer
The Use of Force
It is the basic function of a police officer to deal with any problems that might require the use of
coercive force according to Carl B. Klockars (Dempsey and Frost 2011). I feel it is how they uses that
force is what makes the difference between a good officer and a bad one. This first example from
(www.justice.gov) is of an officer that uses excessive force on a suspect that is already unter control,
the only good i seen out of this is that the other officer on the scene reported his conduct to their
supervisor.
This case arose from Boone s use of excessive force against Orville Hill during Hill s arrest on Feb.
19, 2013. During the incident, Boone arrived at a scene where three fellow Des Moines police officers
were holding Hill on the ground and a fourth officer was standing over the group. Boone ran up to the

Bras Vs Breast Feeding
Bras during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do you need a new bra during pregnancy? Yes. Like the rest of your body, your breasts will increase
too. Although it might be tempting to use the existing bras, it would be best to invest in some new
ones. The growing breasts are heavier and develop glandular tissues. Your breasts start producing milk
during the pregnancy and prepare for nursing your lil one. This adds a few pounds to the breasts which
deserve some comfort.
When to get a new bra?
When you take off your bra and see indentations along the straps, it s time to purchase some new bras.
The bras will start to feel too snug or your breasts would start to spill out from the bra cups. As every
pregnancy is different, everybody is different. Hence each woman s breast size increases differently.
The breast size increases during pregnancy and then might not increase until the last few months.
Hence, depending on your body growth, you might have to change bras accordingly. ... Show more

Night Comfort
It is very uncomfortable to wear a bra at night. Although many women prefer not to wear one while
they sleep, some do wear a bra since they want to provide support to their growing breasts, even at
night. If you wish to wear a bra at night, choose a bra that is extremely soft and not too tight. A soft
cotton bra is the best option since it allows your skin to get sufficient air to breathe.

Portfolio Management Concepts Essay
Portfolio Management Concepts The concept of portfolio management is a lucrative sword as not only
it offers not only returns but the investor also have to face risk associated with it. If the Investor is
willing to earn higher return he has to associate higher return with higher risk. For an investor to
diversify away the risk he can follow diversification rule. Under diversification, investor can include
the assets which are not correlated to each other and thus by including these asset classes he can
diversify away the risk. However, in terms of the risk there are two kinds of risk i.e Unsystematic Risk

Analysis relates to the concept of Behavior Finance which is a branch of investment world that
explain the stock prices anomalies because of psycholigical behavior of investors. In other words,
behavior analysis reveals the pattern of how the market outcomes and an investors investment
decisions are influenced by the prevailing market information structure and characteristc of market
participants. It considers the psychological bases for percieved investor behavior that creates some
degree of systematic mispricing of securities and may explain anomalies that tend to refute the
efficient market hypothesis. Following are some bias related to behavior finance: Overconfidence
Bias: With respect to growing companies, researchers have presented evidence that KMK Investments
overconfidence in their earnings forecasts and their high estimated growth rate of earnings lead them

Forests And Temperate Grasslands
Grasslands are lands that have a lot of grass! Grasslands have very few trees. This is because it does
not rain enough to grow many trees. There are two kinds of grasslands: savannas and temperate
grasslands. A savanna is a grassland found in warm climates. The largest savanna is in Africa.
Savannas have many herbivores or plant eating animals such as elephants, giraffes, and zebras. Many
of these animals eat grass. They also have carnivores or meat eating animals such as lions, cheetahs,
and hyenas. Temperate grasslands have a lot of grass and good soil for farming. Temperate grasslands
are also called prairies, steppes, or pampas. The weather here is hot in the summer and cold in the
winter. Some of the animals that live here are rabbits, buffalo, wolves, and insects. Forests are full of
lots of trees! There are 3 kinds of forests: tropical forests, temperate forests, and boreal forests. Each
different kind of forest has different types of trees and animals. Tropical forests are found in hot and
humid places near the equator. Rainforests and jungles are tropical forests. It is called a rainforest
because it rains a lot. Animals such as snakes, gorillas, jaguars, monkeys, and parrots live here.
Temperate forests are like the forests we are used to. The leaves change color with the seasons. Maple,
elm, and oak trees are found in temperate forests. Some of the animals that live here are mountain
lions, bears, deer, and squirrels. Boreal forests are found in the North and

The At San Francesco Or Collegio La Salle
If you are from Gejeret then you might just as well remember where Gejretians found refuge in 1975.
I was one of those who took refuge at San Francesco or Collegio La Salle, which was administered by
the Kerenite Fratelli, Fr. Michael, Fr. Kahsay, and Fr. Demsas. Later on, I heard Fr. Demsas joined the
struggle but I ve no information if he made it to Independence Day. Also, rumor had it that afterwards,
Fr. Misghina quit the La Salle seminary, got married and left for Sweden. And there is more of such
news.
The year 1975 ushered a turbulent and terrible times for Asmara residents who hitherto escaped the
ugliness of the raging terror that was being carried out by the Derg. Most people from Gejeret stayed
at home during daytime, and at night moved to La Salle to spend the night. Usually in the late
afternoon, most of the people packed necessary supplies, took along mattress and blankets, and
bagged other items, and headed to La Salle to spend the night. After some time, that became the daily
routine, people were convinced it was the only way to evade falling victim and face the unimaginable
cruelty and looting in the hands of the Derg security forces, the Tor Serawti who became extremely
active during the night.
Two safe places became safe havens for the residents of Gejeret: San Francesco and La Salle. They
offered relative security and peaceful night. Meanwhile, many residents of Asmara trekked to the
countryside around Asmara where they found refuge. The rural areas

Communism In America Essay
Despite what my opponent would have you believe, communism is not a danger to America meaning
that Nixon, McCarthy, and the HUAC are all unnecessary. Firstly, a brief explanation of some of the
terms I will be using. Capitalism is an economic system where businesses and the means of production
are owned by private individuals for profit. In a socialist economy, the means of production are owned
by the community as a whole and individuals get rewarded for their work based on the following
principle: from each according to his ability, to each according to his contribution. In communism,
items are divided up based on, from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
Finally, I will use the terms proletariat and bourgeoisie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a difference between a country and the economic theory that it is currently using (reminder,
the USSR is not communist nor is it socialist).
Fourthly, suppressing an idea from America is the least American action you could do. In America,
free speech is a highly valued freedom, and, to quote Benjamin Franklin, Those who would give up
essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety (all
perceived threats from communism are not actual threats since the threats would be coming from the
USSR). Freedom of speech is an essential liberty.
Fifthly, all perceived danger from the USSR is nowhere near the amount of actual danger they are in
because of us. America was the first to use a nuclear bomb in war, and we have a general intolerance
for the USSR. Combined, this is frightening.
Finally, Joseph McCarthy and Richard Nixon have accused both innocent and guilty people of
communism and/or being a spy for the USSR because of their communism.
To recap, Senators McCarthy and Nixon have attacked innocent people for being communist spies
since they are possibly communist for a country that isn t even communist and tried to suppress a
simple idea, thereby proving that they deserve neither liberty nor safety, all in the name of political

Bauhaus Case Study
The Bauhaus School of Design and Architecture
The year was 1919. World War I had just ended, and new beginnings were arising. Day to day life no
longer revolved around the fear of the outcome of World War I. The German youth began to see
potential in this at the same time that architect Walter Gropius decided to make a huge decision. After
some struggle to break stereotypes, he opened a school, called Bauhaus. With its three locations in
Germany, the Bauhaus School of Design was able to produce modern art, train diverse artists, and
push the limits. Just as Viennese artists did in the late 1800s, Walter Gropius and several other
Germans pulled away from the national art guilds and began to compete with each other to see who
could form the best group with the least bourgeoisie views and works. This type of group was called a
compound, and more specifically, the Bauhaus. In the beginning, there was no plan to become a
school. It was simply a group of architects including Bruno Taut, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and
J.J.P. Oud who were together aiding in Gropius attempt to create art that in no way, shape, or form met
the standards of the middle to upper class (Wolfe 13 17). In the same year, Gropius was asked to
combine the fine arts schools of Weimar with his own talents to form a school. In one of his
manifestos, Gropius wrote, The art of schools of old were incapable of producing this unity and how
could they, for art may not be taught. Under the same name of

The Renaissance Period And Artemisia Gentileschi Of The...
Introduction
When one thinks of influential Western artists, images of the works of Michelangelo or Caravaggio
might be evoked. In fact, most paintings one may think of would have been completed by men. Most
of the art movements in the western world were in fact lead and contributed to by men, especially in
the Renaissance and Baroque period. Even though art as a profession in these time periods was
dominated by male artists, female artists did, in fact, make significant contributions to their respective
art movements. This paper will discuss and compare the lives and works of two Italian painters:
Sofonisba Anguissola of the Renaissance period and Artemisia Gentileschi of the Baroque period.

Thanks to Sofonisba Anguissola s success and fame, the door had been opened for more women to
pursue a career in art, including Artemisia Gentileschi.
Artemisia Gentileschi
Thirty four years after Sofonisba Anguissola became court painter to Phillip II, Artemisia Gentileschi
was born in 1593. Unlike Anguissola, Artemisia Gentileschi was fortunate enough to have a well
established painter as a father. Orazio Gentileschi was a follower of on of the leading Baroque painters
Caravaggio, who s paintings utilized dramatic lighting and focused on the narrative of his realistically
plain characters. Orazio trained his daughter in Caravaggio s style until he found that her talents
surpassed his own. He then hired Agostino Tassi to take over her training and to teach her perspective
in 1611. However, Tassi raped Artemisia, falsely promising to marry her afterward. Orazio sued Tassi
for the rape of Artemisia and the theft of several pictures. The trial lasted for five months, and
Artemisia had to endure the thumb screw, a lie detector test of the time. Tassi was found guilty and
spent eight months in prison before being released. Even though Tassi was found guilty, Artemisia was
labeled as a licentious woman ever since. It is speculated that this trial acted as inspiration for many of
Artemisia s paintings, which included subjects of heroic women.
Despite her tarnished reputation, Artemisia Gentileschi became one of the most

Let Medicine Be Thy Food And Let Food Be Thy Medicine
The Greek physician and father of medicine Hippocrates once said Let medicine be thy food and let
food be thy medicine. This simple statement encompasses my view of many global health problems
that I believe could be resolved utilizing urban agricultural techniques and provide access to a healthy
food source. Medicine has long been aware that an apple a day will keep the doctor away. Wouldn t it
be nice if it could be said that an eggplant a day will keep cancer away? If individuals change the
source that their food is derived from to urban farms it may be possible to keep many ailments away.
Urban agricultural programs also referred to as urban farms or ZFarms, have the potential to have a
positive impact on communities worldwide by affecting eating habits, social interaction and economic
patterns.

Statement: Of the 7 billion people in the world approximately one in nine individuals are without food
(World Hunger, 2016). The scarcity of nutrition is associated with exhaustion, absence from school
and disease, however, researchers are finding potential in the use of urban gardening as a significant
link in urban food security (Brown Jameton, 2000).
Priority: Lower rates of Diabetes Mellitus worldwide
Statement: The global health burden is increasing at an alarming rate with the number of those
affected doubling since 1980 (Global Report on Diabetes, 2016). Self food production increases the
amount of energy that an individual expends decreasing the amount of time spent in a sedentary state
and decreasing risks associated with diabetes (Bellow, et al, 2003). Additionally, the quality of food
produced in the urban garden helps to low diabetes instances due to a healthier diet.

and healing responses (Bellow, et al, 2003).

The Violation Of Human Rights Equality
Imagine being in another persons shoes that may not have it as easy as others. Some people do not get
the same respect as others just because of the way they look. This is an example of a human rights
violation. An human right violation is when a right is being abused in such a way that it effects how
some people live their life. It is hard to even think about that this is going on in American today. It is a
big problem in today s society, and many are speaking out about it. This human rights violation is the
result of racial inequality in America, and many are trying to stop it by protesting, starting movements,
and kneeling of the national anthem.
Many people have freedom, which comes with rights. Some important rights in the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights that relate to Racial inequality are articles two and three. Article two
states, Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom set forth in this declaration, without
distinction of any kind, such as race... (Library). This shows that everyone of any color has the same
rights as others. This human right is being violated because many people of color are not being treated
equally. Another human rights article that is being violated is article three. This human right is being
violated because [e]veryone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person, but people of other
races are not treated like they have these rights (Library). People of color are starting to stand up to
others who treat them

Summa Contra Gentiles By Thomas Aquinas
In his book, Summa Contra Gentiles, Thomas Aquinas initiates his consideration of divine nature as
he explores and reflects upon some of the most challenging questions surrounding Catholicism.
Specifically, he focuses on the essence and the existence of God as to provide insight into the natural
ends of human life. Therefore, his consideration and analysis of central Catholic beliefs allows
Catholics to better understand their position as members of a larger structure of human existence. This
paper will analyze the simplicity and existence of divine nature, through an examination of human
wisdom and divine assistance. Before Aquinas begins his consideration of God s divine essence, he

He speaks to the human desire for happiness, which he defines as the fullness of being. However, he
asserts that we cannot achieve this alone. We require God s grace. This idea is supported by the text
when Aquinas states: For the means must be proportionate to the end: if then man is ordained to an
end transcending his natural capacities, he must be furnished with some supernatural assistance from
heaven, enabling him to tend to that end. (SCG 3.148) Here, Aquinas suggests that grace perfects
nature without distorting it. Accordingly, man was created to be dependent on his creator and what he
provides. This is significant as it implies that man is not able to derive his own holiness from his will,
as in accordance with Pelagian belief. Therefore, much of God s goodness originates from His
willingness to help man get what he

The War Between America And America
During the time from 1800 1900 America had gone through a series of some tough growing pains. It
was recovering from its first war with Britain and would not be its last battle, for this newly formed
country. The over whelming onslaught of war was just the start of this small country s birth. Within
the 1800 s there were 35 wars in America s history and it was needing to prove its worth by each one.
You will see reasons why a young country had to fight to save itself, what effects these battles had on
America, and the battles that scared America the worst.
America was a young country that had just beaten the British nation, that same power that gave them
the opportunity to become America. Recovering from its wounds with the mother land, America had
to tighten the reigns as the battles with other nations were about to start. America was being groomed
by its founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson to become something greater as he said in a letter to
John Adams, to establish each ward with reading, writing, and arithmetic. (1) Jefferson portraying to
Adams that he wanted this country built on free thinkers and not slaves to the crown. The thought that
would linger in every American during the 1800 s was that they had to fight for the freedom they had
earned. Unlike the French that fought and lost its revolution and went back to a monarchy. (2) With
this great nation it knew it needed great warriors, and the call to arms would be answered by the
United States Marine Corps.

Alexis De Tocqueville Summary
Alexis de Tocqueville was a French sociologist and a political theorist. He grew up in France,
however, traveled to America to study the prison system and returned to France with a broader
knowledge and observation from the United States. He condensed his finding in a book called
Democracy in America, which he published in 1835. In the book, he showed how he admired the
individualism and the stability of the economy, yet questioned its embrace of slavery and treatment of
Native Americans. Chapter 13, in Alexis de Tocqueville, He compares Europe s government to the
United States. He talks about how it is hard to make the comparison due to Europe having democracy
and aristocracy. Having both of these forms of government makes it difficult to isolate the democracy
in Europe. However, in the United States democracy is the only form, making it easy to see how it
works and the effects it has. Tocqueville is trying to make the comparison due to France being driven
blindly to democracy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He speaks about how the talented people are not always in office. He questions the people s decision
in who they elect concluding that Americans just do not do their research on the people running.
However, he says when danger threatens the state, citizens usually elect someone fit to lead us out of
the problem. Tocqueville shows how elections can be problems. Having elections too frequently
causes you to have an unstable government due to constant change. He also goes on to quote
Alexander Hamilton in saying how making laws in an excessive manor can become a problem.
Tocqueville admires many parts of democracy in government. He admires how the citizens keep the
people in office humbled and also the office is what is respected more than the people filling it. He
talks about how after one term in office is complete that the ways of the last person in office is not

  • 2. The Restoration Of Grecian Philosophical Documents The Preservation of Grecian Philosophical Documents Was an Important Islamic Contribution to Western Civilization Islamic preservation and translation of the Greek philosophical works of Aristotle, and Plato contributed to the flourishing of Western civilization. Under the direction of Islamic cultural patrons, they translated these vital texts from Greek into other languages. Such actions were significantly contributive to the revival and transmission of these pieces, bringing about their subsequent spread throughout Europe. Centuries of Islamic scholarship like this were crucial to the eventual emergence of the European Renaissance Period. The anterior exposure of the Arab world to Greek philosophy follows paths reaching back to the sixth century C.E. A common occurrence among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, were their interactions with Greek philosophy, and their attempts to reconcile their religious dogmas with the Greek philosophical known truths of reason; trying to marry faith with reason. Commonalities between their interactions produced a naturally occurring process of sharing respective religious and philosophical problems, and it is in the latter that Islamic philosophers deserve much credit from Judaism and Christianity, for the Abbasid caliphate s deference to translation and preservation of key Aristotelian (and other) works long lost to the West. The irony of this sharing between religions remains that each was using the similar material to try and prove ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Radar In Ww2 Essay Radar works by transmitting strong but short pulses of radio energy into the air in a certain direction using whats called an antenna these pulses bounce off metallic objects such as ships or aircrafts they bounce back to the antenna these signals are then converted to a signal which is shown on a screen. Heinrich hertz in the late 19th century was experimenting and he showed that radio waves were reflected by metallic objects. But It wasn t until the early 20th century that new systems were able to use these principles. But it was the German inventor Christian Hülsmeyer used these principles to create a ship detection advice to help avoid collisions in the fog the Reichspatent Nr. 165546. The technology of radio based tracking and detection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The very simplistic technology made it highly adaptable to war engineers and war scientists which they found dozens of ways to use it. Planes played a minimal role in WW1 but as planes increased in size and more bombs were invented it became a very clear threat, in WW2 battles were basically won for the side to spot the where abouts of planes, ships and submarines it gave the allies or enemies an edge so countries developed R.A.D.A.R this made enemies and allies alike to see hundreds of miles even in the darkest of nights. There were no aerial, sea and land based battles that were Radar didn t impact it. Although in 1941 December the 7th almost an hour before the pearl harbor bombings, a mobile radio station on the north side of Oahu had detected the approach of a Japanese aircraft the operators of the station reported the sightings to their superiors but the reports were dismissed due to them being inexperienced. If the reports were not ignored this could have prevented the attacks on pearl harbor and could have significantly changed the history of ww2 as we know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Entanglement and Quantum Mechanics Entanglement is one of the most fundamental and yet unintuitive concepts in quantum mechanics. Maximally entangled two qubit states, often called Bell states, where shown to violate classical (local) correlation properties [33, 34] and are an essential building block for quantum communication and distributed quantum computation. Unfortunately, such entangled states are also difficult to generate and sustain as interaction with a noisy environment typically leads to rapid loss of their unique quantum properties. In the context of QSC, such an entanglement has been generated exploring various types of interactions such as direct qubit qubit interaction [35, 36], coupling to a common cavity mode [37] or photon mediated interactions for qubits embedded in a waveguide [38]. In this context, remote entanglement of spatially separated quantum systems have important im plications in addressing the scaling problem for quantum information processing. Indeed, as a solution to this scaling issue, we propose here to follow a modular approach where the quantum information is encoded, protected and locally manipulated in small units consisting of a few cavity modes or/and few qubits and the communication between modules is ensured through quantum teleportation techniques. Sharing of a pair of entangled subsystems between two modules is central for these teleportation pro tocols. While the isolation of the modules simplifies the scaling by avoiding any undesired cross talk between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Plato s Meno Constructs In Meno, Plato argues that because information cannot be learned, but is instead recollected, then learning is impossible. Plato constructs this claim by arguing: (1) Either one already knows what one wants to learn, or one does not already know what one wants to learn. (Premise) (2) If one already knows what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise) (3) If one does not already know what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise) (4) Therefore, learning is impossible (CD,2,3) The argument is valid, because the conclusion (4) can be derived from (2) and (3) using the constructive dilemma rule. Plato s first premise appears to be true. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Internal Conflict Of Man And Self Stories have been written regarding the internal conflict of man and self. Within this conflict, man struggles with his own moral compass or natural character flaws. This conflict leaves man with many questions including questions concerning immortality and life in general. In the novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley writes about the revolving conflicts between the two characters, Victor Frankenstein and his monster. Victor and his monster s motives are parallel throughout the novel. Both characters begin searching for an identity, Victor for fame through science and the monster trying to find his role in society. Genesis 1:27 from the New King James Version of the Bible states, So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (The Holy Bible). Religion teaches that man was created to be a likeness to God and not a more perfect being. In his essay, Jean Jacques Rousseau stated, Everything is good as it leaves the hands of the Author of things; everything degenerates in the hands of man (Rousseau 205). Rousseau explains in his document, that there is a natural goodness in man that can be nurtured and maintained, but man can be easily corrupted. The novel Frankenstein, deals with the divisions between Victor Frankenstein and the monster that he creates. Their struggles illustrate the haunting similarities between the creator and the created. Rousseau and Shelley both write about the conflicts that man faces throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Theory Of Social Space The next key concept to come from Bourdieu s work is the field which, unlike habitus, exists outside the minds of actors. The field is formally defined as a network of relations among the objective positions within it. The occupants of these positions may be either agents or institutions and they are both constrained by the structure of the field (Ritzer, 2004). Economic capital, which relates the economy of the state, and cultural capital, which involves various kinds of acceptable knowledge are two principles of differentiation which determine social space classifications. Accordingly, social space is constructed in such a way that agents are distributed within it according to their position in statistical distributions based on these two principles of differentiation (Bourdieu, 1998). It follows that agents are distributed in this social space in such a way that the closer they are to one another, as determined by those two principles of differentiation, the more they will likely have in common. Occupants of positions within the field employ a variety of strategies, and again, the strategies of these agents depend on their position in the field. This demonstrates that Bourdieu s actors possess less freedom than Giddens s. While there are many differences between these two theories and theorists, I have pointed out several similarities as both Giddens and Bourdieu presented a duality of structure, and they both consider the issue of constraint on agents. ... • 8. Nero s Domus Aurea And The Colosseum The Colosseum has been standing for over 1900 years but before discussing the Colosseum s achievements, it is important to understand the historical context and background of the building. How can a place go from being a symbol of extreme tyranny and private wealth to a symbol of one of the greatest entertainment venues and architectural feats? The Roman Colosseum did just that. It completely changed the public attitude and activity since it was built upon the grounds of what was once the part of Golden House of Nero (Domus Aurea). Although both Nero s Domus Aurea and the Colosseum are architecturally supreme and complex, the area holds rich history of private decadent excess to a public attraction making them supreme and complex in two different ways. Nero was the fifth Roman emperor of the Julio Claudian line who ruled from 54 68 CE. Nero did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Claudius, the fourth Roman emperor 41 54 CE married for the fourth time to Nero s mother Agrippina, even though he was her uncle. To aid Claudius politically, Nero was adopted in 50. Nero was older than his stepbrother Britannicus and thus became heir to the throne. Agrippa did everything in her power to ensure Nero s reign and control the government, eventually many people were killed including Claudius. Nero was only seventeen when he became emperor in 54. Nero was not all bad, he did things like eliminate secret trials, fixed some of the wrongdoing from the Claudius reign, initiated poetry, theaters, and athletics. • 9. Genetically Modified Organisms Or Gmos The world is an ever changing place, full of people with constantly evolving ideas and innovations. Humans have been designed to create and innovate; to explore the world around them and to solve problems. One of these innovation scientists have been working with are genetically modified organisms, or GMOs for short. The topic of GMOs is extremely controversial. There are those who back it one hundred percent, and those who seek to see it destroyed. While much of GMOs fame comes from the field of genetically modified foods, it is most certainly not limited to it. A quieter, and perhaps more imaginary field of GMOs has to do with genetically modified pigs. Scientists have been reworking the genes of some swine in order to make their tissue and organs usable for humans. In other words, scientists have been trying develop a breed of pigs who can be used as tissue and organ donors for people. While many people have expressed concerns for GMOs, genetically modified pigs, as tissue donors for humans, may prove beneficial in the near future. Before being able to understand genetically modified pigs and their benefits, it is vital to understand what GMOs are and how they work. Klein, let us start with you. In my theory of object relation, we focus on the importance of the mother child relationship. My theory was built on my interpretations of childhood during the first four to six months where most children begin showing behavior traits toward specific people in their lives. For instance, the persona archetype, the part we are willing to share with others is the part of our personality and showcase to the world, people are both introverted and extraverted; rational and irrational; male and female, conscious and unconscious and pushed by past events while being pulled by future expectations (Feist amp; Roberts, 2013, p. 102). The darker part of a person is the shadow archetype. This is the part that comprises what we tend to hide from both others and ourselves, which pertains to being scary, intolerable and even malevolent. The other is known as the anima, which I feel is of a man s personality and portrays his femininity, which would show his areas of sensitivity, consideration, sympathy and cordiality to those around him, however it could be more unreasonable because of feelings. Looking in to the women s masculine side of her personality is the animus, the other side I believe is the more balanced and logical. With men there is such a stigma in how they are seen. Men dread to be seen in the negative as weak both from others and from themselves because it is a contradiction of their overemphasized persona of what men should be, therefore men try to hide their softer side (anima). Rhetorical Analysis Of Violent Media Is Good For Kids Tabitha Desiree Luke Mrs. Woodward English 101 10 October 2017 A Rhetorical Analysis of Violent Media is Good for Kids From early childhood, parents, teachers, and other adults instill in us that violence is bad and unethical. We can all agree that we should avoid certain forms of violent behavior if possible; however, it is incorrect to assume that all forms of violence is bad. In his article Violent Media is Good For Kids , Gerald Jones argues that creative violence such as gory video games, Comic books, and play fighting give children tools to master rage and actually help more kids than they hurt. Jones is wrong to imply that the only reason these comics were good for him was due to the violence alone. This was not a character like the Joker who just tortured and corrupted people for a laugh and killed mercilessly, there is a reason the good guy always wins in these comics, and that is to appeal to the children reading them and to instill that type of behavior. Everybody loves a winner so when they make Batman or Superman triumph over The Joker or Lex Luthor the authors are instilling the value that good triumphs over evil to their audience. This means that while yes, they were good for him because they were violent and juvenile; they were also good because they still had those messages of conquering the demon, or lose yourself but find yourself again. • 14. The Secret Of Empathy, Enlightenment, And Internal Growth... The Secret of Empathy, Enlightenment, and Internal Growth There are two senses of reality: external and internal. External reality is an observable universe, but perspectives differ and thus cause different opinions. To experience internal reality is to confuse one s own reality with a shared reality, resulting in a loss of empathy and disregarding how others are affected. An external mindset displays an understanding of different opinions in a shared world, whereas with internal mindset a person s devotion to a belief becomes their private world. When a person is passionate about their beliefs they tend to disregard other perspectives, or live internally. This is a common practice because, depending upon upbringing, different moral values have been instilled in the person. Typically, people will not partake in activities or actions that defy their morality, so they tend to align with others who share similar values. However, people who are unwilling to think beyond their own beliefs lose their sense of empathy. The more devoted a person is to their morals, the less empathy they might have. When we look outside ourselves to other perspectives, we can better connect to an external rather than simply an internal reality, approaching the world with an enlightened state of mind capable of both empathy and consistent growth. A less narrow minded person is capable of accessing an external reality. Typically, it seems that the more devout citizens are more closed minded. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The At San Francesco Or Collegio La Salle If you are from Gejeret then you might just as well remember where Gejretians found refuge in 1975. I was one of those who took refuge at San Francesco or Collegio La Salle, which was administered by the Kerenite Fratelli, Fr. Michael, Fr. Kahsay, and Fr. Demsas. Later on, I heard Fr. Demsas joined the struggle but I ve no information if he made it to Independence Day. Also, rumor had it that afterwards, Fr. Misghina quit the La Salle seminary, got married and left for Sweden. And there is more of such news. The year 1975 ushered a turbulent and terrible times for Asmara residents who hitherto escaped the ugliness of the raging terror that was being carried out by the Derg. Most people from Gejeret stayed at home during daytime, and at night moved to La Salle to spend the night. Usually in the late afternoon, most of the people packed necessary supplies, took along mattress and blankets, and bagged other items, and headed to La Salle to spend the night. After some time, that became the daily routine, people were convinced it was the only way to evade falling victim and face the unimaginable cruelty and looting in the hands of the Derg security forces, the Tor Serawti who became extremely active during the night. Two safe places became safe havens for the residents of Gejeret: San Francesco and La Salle. They offered relative security and peaceful night. Meanwhile, many residents of Asmara trekked to the countryside around Asmara where they found refuge. The rural areas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Communism In America Essay Despite what my opponent would have you believe, communism is not a danger to America meaning that Nixon, McCarthy, and the HUAC are all unnecessary. Firstly, a brief explanation of some of the terms I will be using. Capitalism is an economic system where businesses and the means of production are owned by private individuals for profit. In a socialist economy, the means of production are owned by the community as a whole and individuals get rewarded for their work based on the following principle: from each according to his ability, to each according to his contribution. In communism, items are divided up based on, from each according to his ability, to each according to his need. Finally, I will use the terms proletariat and bourgeoisie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a difference between a country and the economic theory that it is currently using (reminder, the USSR is not communist nor is it socialist). Fourthly, suppressing an idea from America is the least American action you could do. In America, free speech is a highly valued freedom, and, to quote Benjamin Franklin, Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety (all perceived threats from communism are not actual threats since the threats would be coming from the USSR). Freedom of speech is an essential liberty. Fifthly, all perceived danger from the USSR is nowhere near the amount of actual danger they are in because of us. America was the first to use a nuclear bomb in war, and we have a general intolerance for the USSR. Combined, this is frightening. Finally, Joseph McCarthy and Richard Nixon have accused both innocent and guilty people of communism and/or being a spy for the USSR because of their communism. To recap, Senators McCarthy and Nixon have attacked innocent people for being communist spies since they are possibly communist for a country that isn t even communist and tried to suppress a simple idea, thereby proving that they deserve neither liberty nor safety, all in the name of political ... • 32. Bauhaus Case Study The Bauhaus School of Design and Architecture The year was 1919. World War I had just ended, and new beginnings were arising. Day to day life no longer revolved around the fear of the outcome of World War I. The German youth began to see potential in this at the same time that architect Walter Gropius decided to make a huge decision. After some struggle to break stereotypes, he opened a school, called Bauhaus. With its three locations in Germany, the Bauhaus School of Design was able to produce modern art, train diverse artists, and push the limits. Just as Viennese artists did in the late 1800s, Walter Gropius and several other Germans pulled away from the national art guilds and began to compete with each other to see who could form the best group with the least bourgeoisie views and works. This type of group was called a compound, and more specifically, the Bauhaus. In the beginning, there was no plan to become a school. It was simply a group of architects including Bruno Taut, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and J.J.P. Oud who were together aiding in Gropius attempt to create art that in no way, shape, or form met the standards of the middle to upper class (Wolfe 13 17). In the same year, Gropius was asked to combine the fine arts schools of Weimar with his own talents to form a school. In one of his manifestos, Gropius wrote, The art of schools of old were incapable of producing this unity and how could they, for art may not be taught. Under the same name of ... • 33. The Renaissance Period And Artemisia Gentileschi Of The... Introduction When one thinks of influential Western artists, images of the works of Michelangelo or Caravaggio might be evoked. In fact, most paintings one may think of would have been completed by men. Most of the art movements in the western world were in fact lead and contributed to by men, especially in the Renaissance and Baroque period. Even though art as a profession in these time periods was dominated by male artists, female artists did, in fact, make significant contributions to their respective art movements. This paper will discuss and compare the lives and works of two Italian painters: Sofonisba Anguissola of the Renaissance period and Artemisia Gentileschi of the Baroque period. Thanks to Sofonisba Anguissola s success and fame, the door had been opened for more women to pursue a career in art, including Artemisia Gentileschi. Artemisia Gentileschi Thirty four years after Sofonisba Anguissola became court painter to Phillip II, Artemisia Gentileschi was born in 1593. Unlike Anguissola, Artemisia Gentileschi was fortunate enough to have a well established painter as a father. Orazio Gentileschi was a follower of on of the leading Baroque painters Caravaggio, who s paintings utilized dramatic lighting and focused on the narrative of his realistically plain characters. Orazio trained his daughter in Caravaggio s style until he found that her talents surpassed his own. He then hired Agostino Tassi to take over her training and to teach her perspective in 1611. However, Tassi raped Artemisia, falsely promising to marry her afterward. Orazio sued Tassi for the rape of Artemisia and the theft of several pictures. The trial lasted for five months, and Artemisia had to endure the thumb screw, a lie detector test of the time. Tassi was found guilty and spent eight months in prison before being released. Even though Tassi was found guilty, Artemisia was labeled as a licentious woman ever since. It is speculated that this trial acted as inspiration for many of Artemisia s paintings, which included subjects of heroic women. Despite her tarnished reputation, Artemisia Gentileschi became one of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Let Medicine Be Thy Food And Let Food Be Thy Medicine The Greek physician and father of medicine Hippocrates once said Let medicine be thy food and let food be thy medicine. This simple statement encompasses my view of many global health problems that I believe could be resolved utilizing urban agricultural techniques and provide access to a healthy food source. Medicine has long been aware that an apple a day will keep the doctor away. Wouldn t it be nice if it could be said that an eggplant a day will keep cancer away? If individuals change the source that their food is derived from to urban farms it may be possible to keep many ailments away. Urban agricultural programs also referred to as urban farms or ZFarms, have the potential to have a positive impact on communities worldwide by affecting eating habits, social interaction and economic patterns. 2. Priority: The Global Problem of Hunger in Developing Countries Statement: Of the 7 billion people in the world approximately one in nine individuals are without food (World Hunger, 2016). The scarcity of nutrition is associated with exhaustion, absence from school and disease, however, researchers are finding potential in the use of urban gardening as a significant link in urban food security (Brown Jameton, 2000). Priority: Lower rates of Diabetes Mellitus worldwide Statement: The global health burden is increasing at an alarming rate with the number of those affected doubling since 1980 (Global Report on Diabetes, 2016). Self food production increases the amount of energy that an individual expends decreasing the amount of time spent in a sedentary state and decreasing risks associated with diabetes (Bellow, et al, 2003). Additionally, the quality of food produced in the urban garden helps to low diabetes instances due to a healthier diet. Priority: Utilize urban farming to increase mental health benefits Statement: World wide mental disease is third as far as impact on the global burden of disease (Burden of Mental Illness, 2013). An human right violation is when a right is being abused in such a way that it effects how some people live their life. It is hard to even think about that this is going on in American today. It is a big problem in today s society, and many are speaking out about it. This human rights violation is the result of racial inequality in America, and many are trying to stop it by protesting, starting movements, and kneeling of the national anthem. Many people have freedom, which comes with rights. Some important rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that relate to Racial inequality are articles two and three. Article two states, Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom set forth in this declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race... (Library). This shows that everyone of any color has the same rights as others. This human right is being violated because many people of color are not being treated equally. Summa Contra Gentiles By Thomas Aquinas In his book, Summa Contra Gentiles, Thomas Aquinas initiates his consideration of divine nature as he explores and reflects upon some of the most challenging questions surrounding Catholicism. Specifically, he focuses on the essence and the existence of God as to provide insight into the natural ends of human life. Therefore, his consideration and analysis of central Catholic beliefs allows Catholics to better understand their position as members of a larger structure of human existence. This paper will analyze the simplicity and existence of divine nature, through an examination of human wisdom and divine assistance. He speaks to the human desire for happiness, which he defines as the fullness of being. However, he asserts that we cannot achieve this alone. We require God s grace. (SCG 3.148) Here, Aquinas suggests that grace perfects nature without distorting it. Accordingly, man was created to be dependent on his creator and what he provides. This is significant as it implies that man is not able to derive his own holiness from his will, as in accordance with Pelagian belief. • 39. The War Between America And America During the time from 1800 1900 America had gone through a series of some tough growing pains. It was recovering from its first war with Britain and would not be its last battle, for this newly formed country. The over whelming onslaught of war was just the start of this small country s birth. Within the 1800 s there were 35 wars in America s history and it was needing to prove its worth by each one. You will see reasons why a young country had to fight to save itself, what effects these battles had on America, and the battles that scared America the worst. America was a young country that had just beaten the British nation, that same power that gave them the opportunity to become America. Recovering from its wounds with the mother land, America had to tighten the reigns as the battles with other nations were about to start. America was being groomed by its founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson to become something greater as he said in a letter to John Adams, to establish each ward with reading, writing, and arithmetic. (1) Jefferson portraying to Adams that he wanted this country built on free thinkers and not slaves to the crown. The thought that would linger in every American during the 1800 s was that they had to fight for the freedom they had earned. Unlike the French that fought and lost its revolution and went back to a monarchy. (2) With this great nation it knew it needed great warriors, and the call to arms would be answered by the United States Marine Corps. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He grew up in France, however, traveled to America to study the prison system and returned to France with a broader knowledge and observation from the United States. He condensed his finding in a book called Democracy in America, which he published in 1835. In the book, he showed how he admired the individualism and the stability of the economy, yet questioned its embrace of slavery and treatment of Native Americans. Chapter 13, in Alexis de Tocqueville, He compares Europe s government to the United States. He talks about how it is hard to make the comparison due to Europe having democracy and aristocracy. Having both of these forms of government makes it difficult to isolate the democracy in Europe. However, in the United States democracy is the only form, making it easy to see how it works and the effects it has.
