How Do I Write A Thesis Statement For An
Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of composing a thesis statement for an essay presents a
unique challenge. The difficulty lies in the recursive nature of the task itself - attempting to
explain the process of creating a thesis statement while simultaneously embodying its principles
in the essay's own structure.
To begin, one must delve into the fundamental purpose of a thesis statement: to succinctly
encapsulate the central argument or claim of the essay while providing a roadmap for the reader.
This involves a delicate balance of specificity and breadth, honing in on a precise idea while
leaving room for exploration and development within the essay's body.
Furthermore, the essay must navigate the various components that contribute to a robust thesis
statement: clarity, coherence, and relevance. It must not only articulate a clear and debatable
assertion but also demonstrate its significance in the broader context of the topic at hand.
Yet, the challenge deepens as the essay endeavors to exemplify these principles through its own
construction. Each paragraph, each sentence, must work in harmony to support and reinforce the
overarching thesis statement. This requires meticulous planning and revision, as well as a keen
awareness of the essay's evolving argumentative trajectory.
Ultimately, the difficulty in writing such an essay lies not only in elucidating the intricacies of
crafting a thesis statement but also in embodying those principles within the essay itself. It
demands a nuanced understanding of rhetoric and composition, as well as a commitment to
clarity and precision in both thought and expression.
In conclusion, tackling the task of explicating the art of writing a thesis statement within an
essay presents a formidable challenge, one that requires deft navigation of rhetorical principles
and meticulous attention to detail. However, with perseverance and dedication, mastery of this
skill can be attained, enriching one's ability to engage critically with complex ideas and
arguments.

Jamaic Out Of Many, One People
Jamaica: Out of Many, One People History of the Culture One would think that an
island would have a culture of its own with very little outside influence, however
that is not the case with this island. Located in the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica is rich
in culture from its European and African history. Jamaica was first populated by
the Taino people, who were also called Arawaks, in AD 600. It was then found by
Christopher Columbus in 1492, and shortly thereafter became a Spanish Territory.
A decade later, the population was equally split between Spanish and slaves with a
small percentage of free blacks and the native Taino people. In 1655, the English
army captured Jamaica and fifteen years later, Jamaica formerly concedes to
England. A decade later, the slaves, making up eighty four percent of the population,
decided to rebel. However, full emancipation from slavery happened in 1838, almost
a century later despite the gross population unbalance. Beginning in 1841, the island
started having more outside influence when the first indentured workers arrived
from Africa, India, China, Syria, Lebanon and the Mediterranean. In 1962, Jamaica
gained full independence from Britain after almost two decades of self government
formation. The history and vast cultural influences of Jamaica makes the country s
motto of Out of many, One People ring true. (Mordecai Mordecai, 2001) Slavery of
a nation is a tragic hardship of the people, however the abolition of slavery brought
Ketones Lab Report
The Carbonyl group, found on the ketone, is a polar group due to the oxygen atom
being more electronegative than the carbon atom. This creates a molecule that is
slightly polar. It is a relatively stable molecule with a relatively high boiling point.
All three Ketones on the table have a boiling point close to water or substantially
higher. The carbonatomin the carbonyl group is not electronegative enough to give a
partial charge large enough for hydrogen bonding to the hydrogen atoms in
Pentanone.
Butanoic Acid, however, has a much higher boiling point than all three ketones.
Butanoic acid does not have the highest molecular mass. This phenomenon can be
attributed to hydrogen bonding. Due to the way the carboxylic molecule is arranged,

This resonance creates stability. The distribution of the negative charge on the
carboxylate ion increases stability because the charges are divided. Each oxygen
bears a charge of negative 1/2. This reduction in charge concentration increases
stability. Furthermore, two molecules of a carboxylic acid creates two hydrogen
bonds. They exist as dimers or pairs. In the liquid state and sometimes in the vapour
state these dimmers remain in tact. In effect, the molecular weight is doubled when
dimmers exists in vapours. extra energy is required to break two hydrogen bonds. In

Arguments Against Gun Ownership
In the aspect of the business world and day to day life there are many U.S. civilians
who have made the choice to own firearms for self defense. Those who oppose gun
ownership believe that these gun owners are a threat to themselves and others
because they have exposure to firearms, so is this the case? Statistically I would
say no. Women can be subject to sexual abuse which is awful, and as a general
whole, men tend to be stronger and able to over power a women and take
advantage of them. It would seem reasonable for women to have a system to
provide themselves with a mechanical advantage over these men. Well according to

A Comparative Analysis of the Characters of King Lear
and...
Kurosawa and Shakespeare Introduction: The greatest narratives in human history
don t just resurface in critical analysis but are also given new life when channeled
through modern media. This is well exemplified by legendary Japanese filmmaker
Akira Kurosawa s 1985 epic, Ran. The highly regarded and high budgeted film, based
on William Shakespeare s 1606 play King Lear, demonstrates the power retained by
the original play even when dramatically recontextualized. Indeed, in a comparative
discussion of King Lear and Hidetora, his counterpart in the Kurosawa film, we are
confronted with the universal themes of power, mortality, vanity and insanity. These
are the themes that connect not just both pieces but the otherwise vastly historical
periods and cultures represented within. Compare: The strongest point of comparison
between the two characters in question is their mutual descent into mental instability
and the degree to which this influences their behavior. Indeed, the common ground in
the two stories is at the outset, when an ailing ruler is manipulated into divided his
kingdom amongst his children. This division of territories, an event stimulated by
individual vanity and infirmity, would have consequences kingdom wide. The
unraveling of civility and familial bonds which would occur thereafter is common to
both tellings. Contrast: Perhaps the most important conceptual difference between the
fading monarch presented in either story is the degree to which
Shoes In The House On Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros
In the novella, The House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros, the symbol of
shoes represents how attractive you are and how you are portrayed by society. For
example, It s Rachel who learns to walk the best all strutted in those magic high
heels. She teaches us to cross and uncross our legs, and to run like a double dutch
rope, and how to walk down to the corner so that the shoes talk back to you. (pg.
40). This quote shows how Esperanza and her friends want to act very mature and
lady like, and how the shoes play a huge role in this. Also, this is the start of
Esperanza maturing, as we see a slight change in attitude and her manners, which the
shoes also had the effect on her to do so. Another piece of evidence is, Everybody

NIMS Case Study
The President of the United States of America issued the HOmeland Security
Presidential Directive (HSPD) 5 on February 28th, 2003 for Managing Domestic
incidents like terrorist attacks, this helped create the National Incident Management
System (NIMS) (Homeland Security, 2004). The use of the Incident Management
System and Incident Command Systemcan help respond and manage an attack of
Weapons of Mass Destruction. These systems allow for coordination to be used in a
proper and efficient manner. Without a system in place communication and

Child Labour At The British Industrial Revolution
This book examines the explanations for child labour in an economic context. A
model of the labour market for children is constructed using the new economics of
the family; framework to derive the supply of child labour and the traditional labour
theory of marginal productivity to derive the demand for child labour. The model
placed into a historical context and used to test the existing supply and demand
induced explanations growing in child labour at the British Industrial Revolution.
Evidence on the extent of children s employment, their specific tasks and trends in
their wages from the textile industry and mining industry used to support the
argument that it was technological innovation, which created a demand for child

High School s Peer Mentorship Program
Weston High School s peer mentorship program provides a constructive relationship
for students with intellectual challenges that helps them navigate through the
obstacles of high school. The main focus of a mentor is to help make the mentee
comfortable in an environment that is exceptionally stressful for them. In the school
setting, people with Autism, specifically Asperger s Syndrome, experience a multitude
of issues because they might have a sensory overload and struggle to socially interact
with their peers. As a mentor, you need to stay with your mentee throughout the
school day and help guide them through any problems that arise, while also
attempting to prevent any tantrums. The main goal of your relationship with your

There are many ways to successfully aid them in making it through the class period,
including providing the mentee with consistency by supplying them with a schedule
that outlines the structure of the class. People with Autism or Asperger Syndrome
crave consistency, structure, and predictability and if these elements are not present,
they will mentally breakdown. Likewise, there is an underlying routine for every
class period, even though a new subject is constantly taught by the teachers. As a
mentor, it would be beneficial to create a schedule for the mentee, so, therefore, the
structure and order that they crave is evident in the classroom environment. For this
reason, the student might begin to feel comfortable, which would allow them to have
a greater capability to focus on the specific tasks. In addition, another way to help the
mentee in the classroom setting is to break down the information that was taught or
attempt to present it to them in a different manner, if they do not understand it.
Students with Autism or Asperger Syndrome sometimes struggle to understand the
lesson as they cannot process the way the teacher has expressed it to the class. It then
might be harder for them to complete an assigned task about that topic and by
breaking it down, they will be able to complete more work. Also, there are many
advantages to presenting the information to them in a different manner, including
Freudian Approach To Literature Essay
2.3 The importance of Freudian approach in literature There are certain
psychoanalytic concepts expressed by Sigmund Freud that can be applied to
interpret literary texts. Most of the literary texts, like dreams, articulate the secret
unconscious desires and concerns of the author, that a literary work is expression of
the author s own neuroses. For instance, one may analyze a particular character
within a literary work from the psychoanalytic view, but it is usually assumed that all
such characters are outcrops of the author s psyche. Frequently, the interesting side of
this approach is that it confirms the importance of literature, as it is built on a literary
key for the making out. Lois Tyson points out, aspects of psychoanalysishave become
so embedded in our culture that terms such as sibling... Show more content on

In this essay he claims that Hamlet s delay in taking revenge on Claudius is a
consequence of the protagonist s own disordered mind. More specifically, Jones
sees Hamlet as the victim of the Oedipal complex that reveals itself. Freud himself
initiated to use his theories to the analysis of religion, mythology, art, and literature
just after the turn of the century. In it he studied the main character, noting the
Oedipal effects behind the plot. The concern with literature quickly turned to the
writers themselves and to artists in general as he asked that why art exists and why
people create it. In that search he wrote essays on Dostoyevsky, Shakespeare,
Leonardo Vinci, Goethe, and others. His sense of the artist, lastly, was that he is an
unstable character who writes out of his own neuroses, with the result that his work

Vaginal Thrush Research Paper
Vaginal Thrush Vaginal Thrush is an infection caused by yeast called candida
albicans. Candida albicans are among the twenty species of Candida yeast that cause
infections in humans. Candida yeasts are usually harmless and typically live around
the vaginal area and on the skin; nevertheless an overgrowth can cause symptoms to
develop. In most cases vaginal thrush symptoms are obvious, common symptoms
include pain, itching and vaginal discharge. Vaginal thrush is a condition that
interferes with the sexual function and sense of wellbeing of a woman. Women who
have vaginal thrush often experience pain during sexual intercourse or when
urinating. Thrush that is symptomatic are categorized as either uncomplicated or

that you can rub on to the vulva (skin around the vagina) and anti thrush pessaries

women have recurring episodes of thrush. It is estimated that out of the 75% of
women who will develop the infection at least once in their lifetime 5% will suffer
from typically four or more infections in a year. Because the vaginas PH levels are
affected by hormonal changes vaginal thrush predominately effects pregnant,
menopausal and women at the start of their period. Although vaginal thrush less

The Love Of Sacrifice By Emily Stimpson
The Love of Sacrifice Sacrifice is necessary in getting through life. We sacrifice in
order to reach something of a higher value, but in Mother Teresa s case was
reaching God. Living in a world full of low wage income families, homelessness,
and so on, and we pass them by without ever needing/wanting to pay them anything,
so at least they could live a better life. Mother Teresais an example of self sacrificefor
the God. As stated by Father Joseph Langford,M.C. in the Article Sacrifice written
by Emily Stimpson, Holiness is living God s life, and God has told us that he is
love not just any kind of love, how ever, but a love that is self emptying and self
gift (Stimpson). Decisively, this quote points out to what sacrifice is. Passion and
love are vital to human beings. She has been stated in Gloria Steinem s book,
Herstory Women Who changed the World, she had an huge impact on many people
s lives and Today, on seven continents and in eighty seven countries, her mission to
service the poor purely for the love of God continues (Ashby and Ohrn 238). Being
this, she was an important person in her century and looking back upon it she made a
huge impact in variety of people s lives throughout the years till she died. Mother
Teresa s objective of conveying contentment and gaiety to the impecunious through
self sacrifice elevates the components of altruism/selflessness and adoration that are
so imperative to the foundation of peace. Vitally, Mother Teresa was
The Levels Of The Somerset Levels Flooded
During the Autumn/Winter of 2013/14, an unusually high frequency of depressions
moved across the Somerset Levels, causing both fluvial and pluvial flooding on a
prodigious scale. The two main rivers which flow through the Levels (River Tone
/Parrett), burst their banks, spilling into the already heavily saturated floodplain. An
emergency was declared and subsequently allowed the Somerset council to request
financial and physical aid to the region. This essay highlights the key reasons the
Somerset Levels flooded, as well evaluating the main management solutions that
were put forward during the peak of the flooding. The Somerset levels expand
170,000 acres across parts of the north and centre of the county (BBC News,
2014). The majority of the soil consists of clay and further inland, peat. As the
Levels sit, on average, just three metres above sea level, it s also prone to coastal
flooding. Every year the area experiences some form of flooding due to its
impermeable calcareous clays, which drains water very slowly (Soilscapes, n.d.).
The Autumn/Winter period saw a record breaking Jet Stream, fuelled by a diving
cold Polar Vortex across the US. With this, brought powerful storms across the UK,
which produced rapid cyclogenesis in the mid Atlantic (MetOffice, 2014). This
pattern lasted several months, exacerbating the flooding issues across the Somerset
Levels. Not only was the flooding caused by natural circumstances, manmade
ingenuity also played a significant role;

Leading by example is the most effective way to produce results. The middle
managers in most companies are more approachable than top management; therefore
it is imperative that middle managers are on board with the new vision of the
company and display this in a positive way. While the merger is occurring it is
essential to build a team atmosphere, full of open communication, honesty, and
teamwork. Each employee from both companies should feel as though their
positions is important, and their cooperation is essential to the success of the
forming company. Once the merger is complete, it is all about the new culture,
staying visible, approachable, and communicating information early and often
(Bolton Lewis, 1998). Aside from ensuring employees are blending well, it is
important to focus on patient care. There will be changes implemented at every
phase of the merger, but it is important not let misunderstandings, or issues within
the staff affect the quality of care given to the patients. Once the merger has been
finalized and integration is complete, middle managers need to assess their staff to
be sure that each employee is doing his or her part to make the merge as successful
as possible. If there are employees who are resisting the changes being made within
the company, or not buying into the new culture and vision, it is necessary to
evaluate the situation and
Universal Studios Personal Narrative

for it again. When we got in the tour bus and we departed I first though Oh this is
going to be boring... but I was pleasantly mistaken! They took us to the sets of
many of their films and TV shows such as Jaws, Psycho, Desperate housewives and
more. They explained how they would film things and even gave us examples of
how the Jaws moved and they made it interesting by putting us in the moment by

with the lights dim to simulate beetles swarming us. It was probably the most
memorable ride I got on not only due to the fact that I enjoyed it but also due to the
fact that my mother and sister were also able to enjoy it.
Afterwards we headed over to the Mummy ride, if correct I believe it was the only
roller coaster available at the park and I just absolutely had to ride it! Unfortunately
as with most of the other rides My sister and mother couldn t get on either but again

Argus Recognizes Odysseus Poem Analysis
Comparing Argus and His Loyalty By Poem and Picture The famous story of Argus
is a tale proving that dogs are always loyal no matter the situation. It is also proving
that dogs are a man s best friend. This story shows more than just a dog and it s
owner, it represents the relationship they kept even after a long time apart. In the
painting Argus Recognizes Odysseus , the artist Theodor Van Thulden uses the dog
looking at Odysseus to show that dogs are a mans best friend and they are the ones
who will always care for you, while in the poem, Argus , Alexander Pope uses the
same scene to show that dogs always remember the ones who cared for them. The
poem Argus , is about a dog named Argus, that was left for twenty years by his
owner. Odysseus, which is the dog s owner, is disguised as a poor and old man,

Disadvantages Of Americanization
Although America was able to gain much political power through its ever growing
economy there were many social costs during the process of growth and wealth
creation, which are the negative and undesirable effects of large US corporations
(Galambos, 933). One disadvantage of the American corporate system is the
tendency towards monopolization within the market (Galambos, 933). This, in turn,
will create oligopolies within industries and thus there will be little chance or
incentive for competition (Galambos, 937 38). Little plurality of firms dominating
the economy is problematic as economic power is so closely tied to political power
(Galambos, 937 38). Now, in an international framework, as a nation, it is quite
arguable why this would be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them with socialist values and features (44). European states have been selective in
the process of doing so in order for the system to work successfully within national

in 2003, follows the journey of a young boy who suffers from autism, Christopher and
the struggles he faces to be independent in a world that seems hostile and harsh to
him. Inspired by Jane Austen s works, Mark Haddon wrote this book as a medium to
portray the innocence and naivety of childhood in an entertaining yet meaningful

were without the pain and difficulties of living with autism that plague children like

primary means of achieving a sense of security. These items keep coming back
continually throughout The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time, but they
appear most often when Christopher encounters new information that has not fully
been processed in his mind, or when he experiences a particularly confusing or
challenging event. When his thoughts become jumbled in the train station in
Swindon, for instance, Christopher thinks of the riddle to visualise the soldiers that

searches the neighborhood for Wellington s murderer, and when he tries to find the

Compare and Contrast Brutus and Macbeth
Brutus vs. Macbeth through Power, Ambition, and Honor Absolute power corrupts
absolutely, unless one knows how to use it, it shall not corrupt. Everyone has
ambitions, a strong desire of achieving great things, and some will do whatever it
takes to achieve their goal. Honor is a title one receives through their noble acts; but
some honorable and strongly ambitious people may go as far as to give up their
noble title to accomplish their purpose. William Shakespeareis a well known English
poet and playwright, a big participant in creating the English language. Among his
twelve tragedies, two has very similar plot and tragic heroes. The play Julius Caesaris
about a noble, honorable, and trusted man named Brutus, who killed his friend and...

It must be by his death; and for my part,/ I know no personal cause to spurn at him,
/ but for the general. (Julius Caesar, II.i.10 12). Brutus has no other reason to kill
Caesar than for the greater good of Rome, whereas Macbeth killed more than three
people for his own benefit. Macbeth first kills Duncan to become king; then
Banquo and his son to make sure that they shall not be kings, but unfortunately for
him, Fleance escaped; and finally Macduff s family, though he was mainly aiming
for Macduff himself. The heroes ambitious deed also led them to lose everything.
Aforementioned, Brutus only killed Caesar for the good of Rome. However, in
allowing Mark Anthony to speak at Caesar s funeral, Brutus made himself and the
conspirators the most hated people in Rome. To have the citizens despise him was
not what Brutus had planned, therefore he has lost half of what he had admiration
from the people, the meaning of his life. To make matters worse, Portia, Brutus s
noble wife, killed herself by swallowing coal. It is not known if Brutus had other
family members, therefore it can safely be concluded that he had lost everything, his
fame and wife. Macbeth falls in a similar matter, first losing his friend and relative
Duncan; then his comrade in the field, Banquo; his wife; and most importantly
himself. For killing countless people, Macbeth s guilt slowly builds in him, and at
his end, was exposed in the
Examples Of Dynamic Characters In A P

cash register watcher and did not want anything to do with the girls, but as soon as
his co workers started add specifics about what happened the girls Sammy stands
up for the girls by quitting his job. He observed the girls and thought; he really
examined the queen she in a way set an example for how they should act. When
Sammy s manager Lengal comes in he says, Girls, this isn t the beach, (21). He
continued to repeat this as if he thought it was a funny joke. He was taking pleasure
in correcting them and telling them that they were not dressed appropriately to be in
the store, but at the beach. One of the girls spoke up... Show more content on

We just came in for one thing (22). Lengal responded with That makes no
difference... We want you decently dressed when you come in here. He continued
saying, After this come in here with your shoulders covered. It s our policy. In the
story it is clear that there was never a policy at A P that stated that customers must
have their shoulders covered. Lengal did not determine the policies himself, but he
did not even have any say in policies because the kingpins put the policies into
place. The girls rushed to leave the store to get away from the rude comments of
the manager. Sammy turns to his manger and quits and mentions, You didn t have
to embarrass them (23). And Lengal responds with, It was they who were
embarrassing us (23). When he rushes out the girls are nowhere in site. When he
quit he knew that his parents would be disappointed in him, he does it anyway. He
did this for one of three reasons; he was already fed up with the job and this was
his final straw, he was trying to make a statement to these girls that he was their hero
, and he did not appreciate his manager acting this way when he is supposed to help
bring people in, not make them not want
Technology Revealed In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The Consequences of Technology Revealed in Shelley s Frankenstein In Mary
Shelley s Frankenstein, written in the late nineteenth century, the author proposes
that knowledge and technology can be dangerous to individuals and all of
humanity. Frankenstein was one of the first cautionary tales about scientific
research. Shelley s novel offers profound insight of the consequences of morally
insensitive scientific and technological research. Learn from me. . . at least by my
example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier
that man is who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to
become greater than his nature will allow (Shelley 101) The popular belief of how
Frankenstein came to be written derives from Shelley herself, who explains in an
introduction to the novel that she, her husband Percy Shelly, and Lord Byron set
themselves the task of creating ghost stories during a short vacation at a European
villa. According to Shelley, the short story she conceived was predicated of the
notion as the eighteenth became the nineteenth century that electricity could be a
catalyst of life. In her introduction she recalls the talk about Erasmus Darwin, who
had preserved a piece of vermicelli in a glass case, till by some extraordinary means
it began to move with voluntary motion, (Joseph vii). The extraordinary means forms
the basis for Frankenstein. Many people also believe that a
How Does Croesus Define Happiness
In modern society, the line between pleasure and happiness is commonly blurred.
While pleasures are momentary feelings of joy, they do not entail true happiness.
True happiness is present even at the worst of times. It is there in moments of
delight as well as in moments of pain and distress. On the journey to a good life,
discovering a true sense of happinessis essential. This concept is portrayed in The
History by Herodotus and Happiness by Richard Taylor. While these readings define
happiness differently, they both demonstrate the idea that a life well lived consists of
long term happiness as opposed to short term pleasures. In The History, Herodotus
describes happiness as something that is socially defined. Croesus believes that he is

In Happiness, Richard Taylor addresses the fact that many people spend their lives
trying to acquire wealth and possessions in hopes that these things will bring them
happiness. Taylor says The pursuit of possessions beyond a certain point, far from
constituting or even contributing to happiness, is an obstacle to it; for one has no
chance of finding the right path to anything if he is resolutely determined to follow
the wrong one (Taylor, 113). Taylor is arguing that the accumulation of possessions is
not only unhelpful in the journey to happiness, but it is detrimental. According to
Taylor, happiness is something that must be found within yourself. External stimuli
will not bring true happiness. In order to reach this sense of happiness, you must
exercise your creative intelligence. Taylor states that creative intelligence is exhibited
in Virtually any activity guided by intelligence...for example, the exercise of skill in a
profession, or in business, or even in such things as gardening and farming (Taylor,
118 119). This definition of creative intelligence does not require one to actually
create anything, but rather to succeed at doing something. This expertise in
performing a certain task will bring the internal fulfillment that Taylor deems
necessary to truly be happy. Though Taylor defines happiness differently than
Herodotus, happiness remains essential to living a
The Blame For The Deaths Of Romeo And Juliet

us; our choices, our luck, but what if fate is not always to blame? In Elizebethan
London, the world was dictated by fate, from the things the people did, to the
choices the people made. And while this is marginally represented in Shakesphere s
Romeo and Juliet, there is still a rash character who acts as a guide to lead Romeo

Juliet through rushing in to action and rash judgments. By rushing into action, Friar
Lawrence causes the untimely deaths of Romeo and Juliet. When attempting to send

This shows us that, the administrative authorities practice or perform functions of
legislature and judiciary: this is so because of the impossibility in having rigid form
of separation of powers due to complexity of modern conditions. Generally, for
administrative authority or executive to function well, it needs legislative powers in
order to make rules on how to enforce law and also judicial powers to decide on their
own merits. That is why the delegation of quasi legislative and quasi judicial
functions to a number of administrative authorities and tribunals has become
unavoidable. 1. Useful of the Study
Tanzania is a democratic and socialist state which adheres to multi party
democracy[5], governed with democratic government based on the basic
constitutional principles[6], therefore, this study will be useful in examining the
boundaries of judicial review and indicate clear whether the government of the United
Republic of Tanzania, by allowing the judicial control over administrative actions,
generally adhere to the basic constitutional principles.
Background to the Problem

Judicial review[7] is the court s power to review the actions of other branches or

Analysis Of Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights
BrontГ« also compares the characters indirectly, as she did the houses. Two very
prominent characters she displays in this way include Lockwood and Isabella. They
are both fundamental narrators in the work. Lockwood does so directly through his
retelling of Nelly s recounting of the story, and Isabella does so through her letter to
Nelly explaining her relationship and life with Heathcliffsoon after they were

various similarities in their styles and traits. Their similarities begin through their
experiences, which serve as a basis for their narration. Both characters have horrible

Lockwood can escape the problems easily, but Isabella can t because she lives them
on a daily basis, by being Heathcliff s wife.
Heathcliff also serves as a pivotal character used in comparison. Although Heathcliff
is correlated to various characters throughout the novel, the main one is Catherine.
Their tendencies to act childish in times of loneliness undermine their intelligence
and evoke a sort of animosity from the audience. Based on their lack of love
throughout childhood from anyone but one another, both Heathcliff and Catherine
have turned to loneliness as a permanent resort to their obstacles in life. They both
have this overwhelming, self inflicted lack of social interest, yet they are constantly
longing for company (Levy 4). This serves as a detrimental trait they both possess,
that ends up deteriorating them both in various ways, and eventually completely.
Their defense mechanisms are even presented as the same, because when they re
hurting or feel threatened due to another s actions, they basically retreat and seclude
themselves from everyone (Galef 5). Their loneliness, which is the basis for how
they treat others, serves as their overall similarity, and is something that is evident in
all of their actions. Characters aren t only presented in comparison to one another,
but are also characterized themselves in various ways. There are two characters that

2. Body
2.1 History of Housing opened
The university opened the housing facilities for the students first time in its 10 year
history for the students for the 2011 12 academic year. The building location was
across the Market Street from the academic tower. University spokesman Steve
Infanti said the school expects to house up to 100 of its 822 full and part time
students in the building, which the school is operating under lease from city
developer Dan Deitchman.
Renovations are under way at the former Governor Hotel building at the southwest
corner of Market and Fourth streets. But Infanti said each finished unit will have
standard school provided furnishings, carpeting and window blinds, as well as Wi Fi
internet service. There also will be shared laundry and common areas, though
residents will be on their own for meals, which Infanti said in itself should provide a
jolt worth several hundred thousand dollars annually to the downtown economy
(C.T., 2017).
2.2Current Status of Student Housing
Currently, the school provides accommodation at two places at Harrisburg. First,
Residences on market place and second Market view place.

Forced Confession In The Crucible
The Use of Forced Confession in The Crucible
According to Revolvy, A forced confession is a confession obtained by a suspect or
a prisoner under means of torture ( including enhanced interrogation techniques) or
other forms of duress. There are different aspects of forced torture. Physical and
psychological torture are both used to force a confession. Physical force in the USA
is rare during a confession because it has been outlawed (Redich). Many people will
confess the truth if they are innocent because they have been coerced or they believe
that it will be more beneficial to confess than to maintain their innocence (Innocence
Project). In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, there are many instances of forced
confession. Throughout The Crucible, multiple people are accused of being a witch.
When the public and church thought someone was a witch, the person had two
options. They could confess and say that they were a witch or they could be hung
and die. This brings up the question, how does force confession affect the people in
The Crucible?
Physical force can be effective in getting people to confess, but there is no evidence
suggesting that the information gained from physical force is considered reliable and
effective (Redich). This is because the victims understand that the physical force will
not stop unless they confess information. Through the pain, some of the information
may be accurate, but it will almost always be tied with inaccurate and misleading
The Problem Of Obesity And Obesity
One contemporary problem of health is obesity. Obesity is considered a lifestyle
disease since it is not infectious or contagious and because it is chronic. But since
it is labeled as a lifestyle disease, many people, both lay people and experts, only
look at overweight and obese individual s lifestyles and criticizes them. But not to
look at wider possibilities that could be having a great influence on this epidemic
(Warwick Booth, Cross, and Lowcock, 2012). This can be seen in how people talk
about obesity and also obese and overweight people. It also affects how people try
to solve this problem. The most popular view about how obesity is formed and
why it is increasing is that people are eating a lot more food or more calorically
dense foods and not exercising enough. Which is true, people are not as active or
eating as healthily as before. This could be due to more busy lifestyles where
people cannot work out as much or prepare healthy meals at home so they eat out.
Life in modernized countries has become very convenient, we have cars and other
types of transport, plus we have grocery stores (in most places), convenient stores,
vending machines in many public builds, restaurants (both fancy and fast food)
that we can go to or deliver to us and we can order junk food online to have junk
food from different countries. This causes less activity since now we don t need to
close by walk places, but it also causes less healthy food choices since they are of an
abundant supply.
Essay on Optimism and Personality Trait
Optimism could be considered a condition of the mind that makes one believe that
the best things will always happen to them. A common idiom used to illustrate
optimism versus pessimism is a glass with water at the halfway point, where the
optimist is said to see the glass as half full, but the pessimist sees the glass as half
empty. Optimists tend to see adversity as temporary; more specifically they view the
obstacle as limited to the situation and not generalized.
1) How does the personality trait develop in humans? Where does it appear to come
from? (20 pts)
According to Alan Carr, author of Positive Psychology: The Science of Happiness and
Human Strengths, the development of optimism may be determined by parental

Parents also reinforce optimism and perseverance by encouraging their children to
deal with any type of obstacle in a positive way. Life is full of hurdles but it s the
way we deal with these difficulties that shape our expectations of things.
2) What purpose or function does the trait appear to serve? (20 pts)
Optimism can be a powerful tool to motivate people to do things that we might
have reservations about. Humans have the intellectual power to look ahead and
anticipate any likely outcomes. In our everyday lives we take on numerous tasks a
throughout our live whether it is studying for finals, starting a new project at work
or starting a new diet. An article by Annie Paul in Psychology Today gave the
example of how even an ordinary effort like going on a diet can benefit from dose
of optimism. A review of dieting studies show that more than two thirds of dieters
gain back more weight than they initially thought. With such a grim outlook on
dieting, optimism gives people the much needed motivation to believe that their goal
is achievable (Paul 2011). If you stopped and took a minute to think about how much
work you had to put in or how much of a risk you could be taking, you might never
even make the attempt. Optimism has such a commanding force that it has the ability
to convince you that things will work out just long enough to take the step forward
and make an effort to accomplish that task. For example, a student in medical school
will put a tremendous amount
Argumentative Essay On Thanksgiving
For families across the United States, Thanksgiving is a holiday to come together
with family and loved ones to celebrate the good things life has to offer. Before
analyzing my own family s Thanksgiving festivities, I hadn t given much thought to
way we celebrate and what the underlying meanings of our actions are. While some
of the traditions of the holiday say something about our society as a whole, I was
also able to view the implicit meanings of my familys specific actions. This analysis
made me realize that while our society is attempting to move forward and break
norms, they are still heavily present within our everyday subconscious actions and
holiday traditions. Although I am grateful I was able to come to this realization, it...

As we all sat down, there was debate on whether we should start eating or wait to
say a prayer. Since none of my family is religious, we decided to go around the
table and say what we were thankful for, something we do every year. As we ate our
large meal conversation shifted to my brother and his fiance s wedding plans and
the topic of children was brought up. Both of them were unsure of if they wanted
children, and if they did, they said they would only have one. All of the rest of my
family at the table seemed disappointed in this response and began telling them
what a blessing it was to have children. I turned to Katie, my brother s fiance, and
pointed out that their children would also be adorable, to which she lightheartedly
corrected with child. The discussion moved more towards small talk, as I basically
described my new life at college over and over again to each of my family
members. Meanwhile, my brother and one of my cousins started getting into a
debate on modern art and what defines art. My cousin was arguing that anything
could be art, while my brother was saying how when he goes to a museum he
becomes angry when he sees canvases painted white or just one color. I had just been

Blog of no Complacency in Business
If there is one thing to stray from when involving yourself in business operations, is
the feeling of complacency. My 10 week blog has given me a larger insight to the
possibilities and expectations of business management. Not only did I blog about
business management but also about starting up a business of my own. Collectively,
my blogwas a learning experience about the businessworld and all it has to offer. If I
could tie together all of the knowledge I have gained from my blog and research I
would categorize it as motivation and risk. With an unmotivated attitude you aren t
capable of taking the necessary risks that are pertinent to the field of business.
With a field that is based on getting out what you put in there is minimal room for a
lack of enthusiasm but rather requires self propelled success. You are the exact
determinate to your success or failure when getting yourself involved. I have
learned that being successful in business relates a lot to what type of person you
are. With something as risky as trying to start up a business, as an individual, you
must be willing to take on any risk. Your personality comes into play with business
as well because of the connections that must be built to insure cushion for your

internet use for the communication purpose depends upon the culture of the people

Internet can be considered as a global communication tool because of its popularity
in adolescents and as a source of health information. It can also be used by the school
dropout to seek information related to sexual aspects where they cannot find
information in their surrounding environment. Thus it can also be considered as a
cultural tool kit as it can be shared as the information can be saved and transmitted to
the next generations for greater access and technological innovations (Jackson et al.,

So finally internet is a tool kit with n number of applications which has its own use.

The Importance Of A Successful Firm Is Good
Communication
The cornerstone to a successful firm is good communication. Without it, there is
confusion, resentment, and a blurry vision for the direction the company wants to go.
In order to ensure there is successful communication amongst the managers and its
employees of the firm, a communication contract should be created. This contract
establishes ethical communicationand rules for which each individual is to follow
when communicating with others. Aside from creating excellent communication
within the firm, the communication contract creates long lasting benefits for the firm
and creates a solid foundation.
Other communication strategies may create short term profits but do not have the
long lasting benefits of an ethical communication contract. The communication
contract I would propose to the firm I work for would have six clauses. They would
be the immunity clause, the respect clause, the need for change clause, the switched
roles clause, the bottom up clause, and the key focus clause. The immunity clause
stipulates that anything said or brought about is done so without any consequence.
The motivation behind this clause is that too many good suggestions or ideas or
constructive criticisms are held back because employees fear that they will be
reprimanded or even lose their job because of the criticism. With the immunity clause
employees can share their true feelings and critiques and that will be honored rather
than rebuked. A companion to the immunity clause is the respect
The Importance Of Recreational Hunting In Australia
Since they were introduced for recreational hunting in the mid 1800s, foxes have
spread across most of Australia. They have played a major role in the decline of a
number of species of native animals and they also prey on newborn lambs. In the
past, methods have been used to reduce fox numbers in the wild in the hopes to
achieve a foxfree country, however those techniques such as employing bounty
hunters, were rarely effective. Various methods such as huntingseem to have little
impact on European Red Fox numbers and thus won t help to cure the damage that
the invasive species caused. High priority prevention, such as on islands, which are

Comparing Three Poems The Buried Life And This Moment
Poetry is a form of art that can serve many functions, depending on what point the
poet is trying to convey. A poet can use functions such as humor, sadness, or hope
to convey a message that can transcend eras. However, the most often used function
in the world of poetry is the use of inspiration. Often poets use short, but powerful,
lines to inspire their readers into a specific way of thinking or acting. In the poems,
Sadie and Maud , The Buried Life , and This Moment , three poems from three
different time periods, three poets use the function of inspiration to inspire readers to
follow their passions and to recognize that they come in many shapes and sizes.
In the poem, Sadie and Maud (1945), by Gwendolyn Brooks, two sisters are compared

Boland is drawing attention to how to often these tiny moments happen and we fail
to realize their significance. Everything described before the moment is still, as if
time is stopped, and it s not until the moment is over that everything begins to move
again, the moment when time resumes. Boland uses the poetic function of inspiration
to inspire us all to take time to appreciate the tiny things in our lives because
something as simple as holding a small child can be the most magical.
Poetry is a timeless form of art, where a function of poetry can be used to share a
message, idea, or perspective that was written hundreds of years ago with the
world we live in today. In the poems Sadie and Maud , The Buried Life , and This
Moment , we witnessed three poems, written in three very different time periods, by
very different poets, all portray very similar messages by using the poetic function of
inspiration. Inspiration is something that surrounds all of us, and having the ability
to find inspiration in timeless pieces of poetry is a tool we all can use, no matter

The World Of Politics And Political Theory
Of the various thinkers examined in history, many have contributed to the world of
politics and paved the way for our modern day government. Not only have they built
up a forum for how policymaking is organized and overall studied, they have also
illuminated new ways to carry out our judicial systems. Two of the major component
thinkers that attributed to the growth of politicsas a whole were Aristotleand Plato.
These two philosophers not only presented new theories but also changed how
legislation is viewed by the world and potential lawmakers.
To bring this topic into being, we must first analyze what politics was and is today in
our society and how our views were constructed on this topic. According to the
Meriam Webster Dictionary,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If asked what politics is, most would usually say that it is another way of conning
people for their votes due to well constructed lies told by decently put together
politicians making promises toward the public that cannot be kept once elected.
Nonetheless, in the latter parts of the reading, it goes on to describe politics as the
leadership value or leader of a state. In order to elucidate the term of a leader, the
book gave various anecdotes in order to portray the qualities of a good leader.
Webster s dictionary defines leadership as the position or function of a person who
guides or directs a group. With this given definition by Webster, it could be
assumed that politics is associated with leadership, because of the ramifications of
the presidential election and the political parties. In the words of Bernard
Montgomery of the British Field Marshal he also attempts to define the word leader
by declaring that Leadership is the capacity and will to rally men and women to a
common purpose and the character which inspires confidence. Essentially, Mr.
Montgomery is stating that the words of a leader can influence a group to assemble
around him/her to aid them in achieving their ultimate goal and in due course getting
them to where they want to go, which can be said of many political party elections
that cause others to rally behind
Road Trip Research Paper
Why didn t you put on some sunscreen? What were you thinking? These are some
of the questions that arose on a long summer road trip. During the summer of
2016, my family and I went on a three week road trip starting in Chestertown, NY,
and going as far west as Yellowstone National Park. The first stop on the trip was
Niagara Falls. We went at night, and the water was lit up in various colors, it was
pretty cool. These days heading out west were mainly long days in the truck
followed up with even more long days in the truck. Before we went to on the trip, I
thought that the trip down to Albany took forever, but a couple of fifteen plus hour
drives going out west made going to Albany seem like it was just down the road.
After two, maybe three days we were driving through Chicago at 3 in the morning
(that s the time of night I saw several major cities along this trip) I thought it looked
nice from what I could see, but then again it was 3 in the morning. That night, we
didn t have any reservations, so we ended up trying to just spend the night in a
Walmart parking lot on the outskirts of Chicago (what an idea). We tried to go to
bed for like 10 mins, and I swear I could hear a gun firing off in the distance, and
you could hear people walking by the camper, and not to mention the cop sirens
you could hear too. We basically got back in the truck and left real quick. Next, we
went north and ended up staying at a place on the Missouri River for a couple of
nights. The

Essay on Tell-tale Heart Literary Analysis
The Tell Tale Heart A Literary Analysis Like many of Poe s other works, the Tell
Tale Heart is a dark story. This particular one focuses on the events leading the
death of an old man, and the events afterwards. That s the basics of it, but there are
many deep meanings hidden in the three page short story. Poe uses techniques such
as first person narrative, irony and style to pull off a believable sense of paranoia.
In this particular story, Poe decided to write it in the first person narrative. This
technique is used to get inside the main character s head and view his thoughts and
are often exciting. The narrator in the Tell Tale Heart is telling the story on how he
killed the old man while pleading his sanity. To quote a phrase... Show more content

Poe s economic style of writing is a key instrument in making this story amazing.
In this story, he uses his style to truly bring out what he intended for the story a
study of paranoia. In example, I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He
had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! Yes,
it was this! One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture a pale blue eye with a film
over it. Whenever it fell upon me my blood ran cold, and so by degrees, very
gradually, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of
the eye for ever. it is easy to see that Poe used short sentences, to capture the rapid
thoughts of a twisted mind. Perhaps the biggest element in this story is the use of
irony, both verbally and dramatically. For verbal irony, we can see clearly at the
end that what the narrator tells the officers and how he acts on the outside, (in a
cool manner , as he puts it) is much different than the chaos on the inside, as in what
he wants to say. He sees the police as villains and wishes them to leave, but due to
the situation, he had to keep them there. The more that he assures himself of his
sanity near the end of the story and the more that he thinks that he is acting coolly,
eventually leads him to reveal that he is the one that killed the old man after all. As
for dramatic irony, since we know that the narrator is the one that killed the old man,
Grave s Disease Case Study Essay
Introduction
The case study selected focused on Grave s disease an autoimmune disorder involving
over production of thyroid hormones triidiothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). In the
United States it is the most common form of hyperthyroidism. The over taxed organ
then becomes enlarged (goiter). This case study report will discuss the clinical
progression and presentation of this disease, define and describe what an autoimmune
disorder is, outline what clinical testing is performed for proper diagnosis, and the
treatments involved for management of the disease and those afflicted.
An autoimmune disorder is when an individual s own adaptive immune system
begins producing antibodies against its own cells/tissues. This in turn causes a ...

According to my case study of an individual with the disease, progression of
symptoms coincided with stressors involving life dilemmas and other illnesses (Vita,
2009). Stress affects the immune system either directly or indirectly through the
nervous and endocrine systems. These immune modulations may contribute to the
development of autoimmunity as well as the susceptibility to autoimmune disease in
genetically predisposed individuals. Stress can be one of the environmental factors
for thyroid autoimmunity (Mizokami, 2005).
Physical signs/symptoms of the disease involve: bulging eyes (proptosis), vision
issues, low tolerance to heat (increased sweating), massive weight loss, redness and
thickening of the skin of the shins (pretibial myxedema), increased heartbeat
/palpitations and fits of thyroid storm if untreated (Graves Disease and Thyroid
Foundation, 2014). The eyes are affected due to the similarities of this tissue to the
thyroid. The eyes are particularly vulnerable to Graves eye disease, because the
autoimmune attack often targets the eye muscles and connective tissue within the
eye socket. This likely occurs because these tissues contain proteins that appear
similar to the immune system as those of the thyroid gland (Kellog Eye Center,
2014). TSI assaults tissues of the thyroid and the eyes.
Other related symptoms are caused by the homeostatic connection of the
Fate In Beowulf
The intelligent Isaac newton once declared For every action, there is an equal and
opposite reaction . Not only does this play a role in the science theories but in life
theory s as well. For every choice made in life, consequences will follow, good and
bad. The Everyday choices not only impact but influence future choices and
outcomes. If one becomes aware of the correlation between an action and the
consequential fate, it may influence the choiceto whether or not repeat the action.
Within Beowulf, an epic poem by Burton Raffel, the choices made concur with fate
to drive the story of courage and legacy. Fate plays a role in Beowulf s tragic death
due to a lack of perfection, error of judgement and repercussion, a mental battle
between choices... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because he does not acquire the ability to fight of Grendel, Unferth then tries to
talk Beowulf out of the battle. Although Unferth does not support Beowulf going
to fight Grendel in fear of the success, the rest of the town supports Beowulf.
Unferth even goes to the extent of questioning the truth behind the swimming
match between Brecca and Beowulf, in which of course Beowulf won. The
outcome between Grendel and Beowulf then push the fate of all characters to
come. Oren Falk, a professor at Cornell University, discusses the fate behind
Beowulf s ideas and potential plans. The plan contains the idea of putting himself
on the line for the good of the community: He leaps into the water not with a design
to lay claim or bring liberty to a soggy bottom, but with the hope of defeating the
Grendelkin on their own turf so that the land above mere level be made safe for
men again (Falk 5).Consequently, all the fame goes to Beowulf for his successes
in defeating Grendel and Grendel s mother. He dives into the repulsive water not
knowing if he will rise back up. The reasoning for his efforts to make the land safe
again become shaped from Beowulf s good soul, doing it for the benefit of others
rather than himself. His error of judgment in this case does not exists because he
makes the choice in thought of the townspeople. Beowulf s error of judgement take

Also we are the one s that want to pay for the wall and so i think that we should be
the ones paying for it. Hillary clinton also has a plan for immigration but it s a little
more different. Hillary will introduce comprehensive immigration reform with a
pathway to full and equal citizenship within her first 100 days in office. It will treat
every person with dignity, fix the family visa backlog, uphold the rule of law, protect
our borders and national security, and bring millions of hardworking people into the
formal economy. This not agree with due to the fact that there are people in the
United States of America that are bad people. If she were to pass this law then i
could give the bad people citizenship. This will then give them a lot more rights and
overall would be a bad situation to out this country into. Another thing that she
plans on doing as soon as she comes into office is to Do everything possible under
the law to protect families. If Congress keeps failing to act on comprehensive
immigration reform, Hillary will enact a simple system for those with sympathetic
cases such as parents of DREAMers, those with a history of service and contribution
to their communities, or those who experience extreme labor violations to make their
case and be eligible for deferred action. Donald Trump is a great candidate

How Do I Write A Thesis Statement For An Essay

  • 1. How Do I Write A Thesis Statement For An Essay Crafting an essay on the intricacies of composing a thesis statement for an essay presents a unique challenge. The difficulty lies in the recursive nature of the task itself - attempting to explain the process of creating a thesis statement while simultaneously embodying its principles in the essay's own structure. To begin, one must delve into the fundamental purpose of a thesis statement: to succinctly encapsulate the central argument or claim of the essay while providing a roadmap for the reader. This involves a delicate balance of specificity and breadth, honing in on a precise idea while leaving room for exploration and development within the essay's body. Furthermore, the essay must navigate the various components that contribute to a robust thesis statement: clarity, coherence, and relevance. It must not only articulate a clear and debatable assertion but also demonstrate its significance in the broader context of the topic at hand. Yet, the challenge deepens as the essay endeavors to exemplify these principles through its own construction. Each paragraph, each sentence, must work in harmony to support and reinforce the overarching thesis statement. This requires meticulous planning and revision, as well as a keen awareness of the essay's evolving argumentative trajectory. Ultimately, the difficulty in writing such an essay lies not only in elucidating the intricacies of crafting a thesis statement but also in embodying those principles within the essay itself. It demands a nuanced understanding of rhetoric and composition, as well as a commitment to clarity and precision in both thought and expression. In conclusion, tackling the task of explicating the art of writing a thesis statement within an essay presents a formidable challenge, one that requires deft navigation of rhetorical principles and meticulous attention to detail. However, with perseverance and dedication, mastery of this skill can be attained, enriching one's ability to engage critically with complex ideas and arguments. • 2. Jamaic Out Of Many, One People Jamaica: Out of Many, One People History of the Culture One would think that an island would have a culture of its own with very little outside influence, however that is not the case with this island. Located in the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica is rich in culture from its European and African history. Jamaica was first populated by the Taino people, who were also called Arawaks, in AD 600. It was then found by Christopher Columbus in 1492, and shortly thereafter became a Spanish Territory. A decade later, the population was equally split between Spanish and slaves with a small percentage of free blacks and the native Taino people. In 1655, the English army captured Jamaica and fifteen years later, Jamaica formerly concedes to England. A decade later, the slaves, making up eighty four percent of the population, decided to rebel. However, full emancipation from slavery happened in 1838, almost a century later despite the gross population unbalance. Beginning in 1841, the island started having more outside influence when the first indentured workers arrived from Africa, India, China, Syria, Lebanon and the Mediterranean. In 1962, Jamaica gained full independence from Britain after almost two decades of self government formation. The history and vast cultural influences of Jamaica makes the country s motto of Out of many, One People ring true. (Mordecai Mordecai, 2001) Slavery of a nation is a tragic hardship of the people, however the abolition of slavery brought

This creates a molecule that is slightly polar. It is a relatively stable molecule with a relatively high boiling point. All three Ketones on the table have a boiling point close to water or substantially higher. The carbonatomin the carbonyl group is not electronegative enough to give a partial charge large enough for hydrogen bonding to the hydrogen atoms in Pentanone. Butanoic Acid, however, has a much higher boiling point than all three ketones. Butanoic acid does not have the highest molecular mass. This phenomenon can be attributed to hydrogen bonding. Due to the way the carboxylic molecule is arranged, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This resonance creates stability. The distribution of the negative charge on the carboxylate ion increases stability because the charges are divided. Each oxygen bears a charge of negative 1/2. This reduction in charge concentration increases stability. Furthermore, two molecules of a carboxylic acid creates two hydrogen bonds. They exist as dimers or pairs. In the liquid state and sometimes in the vapour state these dimmers remain in tact. In effect, the molecular weight is doubled when dimmers exists in vapours. extra energy is required to break two hydrogen bonds. In actual fact, many carboxylic acids ( ie benzoic, palmitic acid) are solids at room
  • 4. Arguments Against Gun Ownership In the aspect of the business world and day to day life there are many U.S. civilians who have made the choice to own firearms for self defense. Those who oppose gun ownership believe that these gun owners are a threat to themselves and others because they have exposure to firearms, so is this the case? Statistically I would say no. Women can be subject to sexual abuse which is awful, and as a general whole, men tend to be stronger and able to over power a women and take advantage of them. It would seem reasonable for women to have a system to provide themselves with a mechanical advantage over these men. Well according to Kleck and Gertz a group of profesores who study firearmviolence at Florida State University as many as 200,000 women use
  • 5. A Comparative Analysis of the Characters of King Lear and... Kurosawa and Shakespeare Introduction: The greatest narratives in human history don t just resurface in critical analysis but are also given new life when channeled through modern media. This is well exemplified by legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa s 1985 epic, Ran. The highly regarded and high budgeted film, based on William Shakespeare s 1606 play King Lear, demonstrates the power retained by the original play even when dramatically recontextualized. Indeed, in a comparative discussion of King Lear and Hidetora, his counterpart in the Kurosawa film, we are confronted with the universal themes of power, mortality, vanity and insanity. These are the themes that connect not just both pieces but the otherwise vastly historical periods and cultures represented within. Compare: The strongest point of comparison between the two characters in question is their mutual descent into mental instability and the degree to which this influences their behavior. Indeed, the common ground in the two stories is at the outset, when an ailing ruler is manipulated into divided his kingdom amongst his children. This division of territories, an event stimulated by individual vanity and infirmity, would have consequences kingdom wide. The unraveling of civility and familial bonds which would occur thereafter is common to both tellings. Contrast: Perhaps the most important conceptual difference between the fading monarch presented in either story is the degree to which

Shoes In The House On Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros In the novella, The House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros, the symbol of shoes represents how attractive you are and how you are portrayed by society. She teaches us to cross and uncross our legs, and to run like a double dutch rope, and how to walk down to the corner so that the shoes talk back to you. (pg. 40). There are many ways to successfully aid them in making it through the class period, including providing the mentee with consistency by supplying them with a schedule that outlines the structure of the class. People with Autism or Asperger Syndrome crave consistency, structure, and predictability and if these elements are not present, they will mentally breakdown. Likewise, there is an underlying routine for every class period, even though a new subject is constantly taught by the teachers. As a mentor, it would be beneficial to create a schedule for the mentee, so, therefore, the structure and order that they crave is evident in the classroom environment. For this reason, the student might begin to feel comfortable, which would allow them to have a greater capability to focus on the specific tasks. In addition, another way to help the mentee in the classroom setting is to break down the information that was taught or attempt to present it to them in a different manner, if they do not understand it. Students with Autism or Asperger Syndrome sometimes struggle to understand the lesson as they cannot process the way the teacher has expressed it to the class. It then might be harder for them to complete an assigned task about that topic and by breaking it down, they will be able to complete more work. Also, there are many advantages to presenting the information to them in a different manner, including
  • 11. Freudian Approach To Literature Essay 2.3 The importance of Freudian approach in literature There are certain psychoanalytic concepts expressed by Sigmund Freud that can be applied to interpret literary texts. Most of the literary texts, like dreams, articulate the secret unconscious desires and concerns of the author, that a literary work is expression of the author s own neuroses. For instance, one may analyze a particular character within a literary work from the psychoanalytic view, but it is usually assumed that all such characters are outcrops of the author s psyche. Frequently, the interesting side of this approach is that it confirms the importance of literature, as it is built on a literary key for the making out. In it he studied the main character, noting the Oedipal effects behind the plot. The concern with literature quickly turned to the writers themselves and to artists in general as he asked that why art exists and why people create it. In that search he wrote essays on Dostoyevsky, Shakespeare, Leonardo Vinci, Goethe, and others. We sacrifice in order to reach something of a higher value, but in Mother Teresa s case was reaching God. Living in a world full of low wage income families, homelessness, and so on, and we pass them by without ever needing/wanting to pay them anything, so at least they could live a better life. Mother Teresais an example of self sacrificefor the God. As stated by Father Joseph Langford,M.C. in the Article Sacrifice written by Emily Stimpson, Holiness is living God s life, and God has told us that he is love not just any kind of love, how ever, but a love that is self emptying and self gift (Stimpson). Decisively, this quote points out to what sacrifice is. Passion and love are vital to human beings. The Levels Of The Somerset Levels Flooded During the Autumn/Winter of 2013/14, an unusually high frequency of depressions moved across the Somerset Levels, causing both fluvial and pluvial flooding on a prodigious scale. The two main rivers which flow through the Levels (River Tone /Parrett), burst their banks, spilling into the already heavily saturated floodplain. An emergency was declared and subsequently allowed the Somerset council to request financial and physical aid to the region. This essay highlights the key reasons the Somerset Levels flooded, as well evaluating the main management solutions that were put forward during the peak of the flooding. The Somerset levels expand 170,000 acres across parts of the north and centre of the county (BBC News, 2014). The majority of the soil consists of clay and further inland, peat. As the Levels sit, on average, just three metres above sea level, it s also prone to coastal flooding. Every year the area experiences some form of flooding due to its impermeable calcareous clays, which drains water very slowly (Soilscapes, n.d.). The Autumn/Winter period saw a record breaking Jet Stream, fuelled by a diving cold Polar Vortex across the US. With this, brought powerful storms across the UK, which produced rapid cyclogenesis in the mid Atlantic (MetOffice, 2014). This pattern lasted several months, exacerbating the flooding issues across the Somerset Levels. Not only was the flooding caused by natural circumstances, manmade ingenuity also played a significant role;

The middle managers in most companies are more approachable than top management; therefore it is imperative that middle managers are on board with the new vision of the company and display this in a positive way. While the merger is occurring it is essential to build a team atmosphere, full of open communication, honesty, and teamwork. Each employee from both companies should feel as though their positions is important, and their cooperation is essential to the success of the forming company. Once the merger is complete, it is all about the new culture, staying visible, approachable, and communicating information early and often (Bolton Lewis, 1998). There will be changes implemented at every phase of the merger, but it is important not let misunderstandings, or issues within the staff affect the quality of care given to the patients. Once the merger has been finalized and integration is complete, middle managers need to assess their staff to be sure that each employee is doing his or her part to make the merge as successful as possible. Frankenstein was one of the first cautionary tales about scientific research. Shelley s novel offers profound insight of the consequences of morally insensitive scientific and technological research. According to Shelley, the short story she conceived was predicated of the notion as the eighteenth became the nineteenth century that electricity could be a catalyst of life. Taylor says The pursuit of possessions beyond a certain point, far from constituting or even contributing to happiness, is an obstacle to it; for one has no chance of finding the right path to anything if he is resolutely determined to follow the wrong one (Taylor, 113). Taylor is arguing that the accumulation of possessions is not only unhelpful in the journey to happiness, but it is detrimental. According to Taylor, happiness is something that must be found within yourself. External stimuli will not bring true happiness. In order to reach this sense of happiness, you must exercise your creative intelligence. Taylor states that creative intelligence is exhibited in Virtually any activity guided by intelligence...for example, the exercise of skill in a profession, or in business, or even in such things as gardening and farming (Taylor, 118 119). This definition of creative intelligence does not require one to actually create anything, but rather to succeed at doing something. This expertise in performing a certain task will bring the internal fulfillment that Taylor deems necessary to truly be happy. Forced Confession In The Crucible The Use of Forced Confession in The Crucible According to Revolvy, A forced confession is a confession obtained by a suspect or a prisoner under means of torture ( including enhanced interrogation techniques) or other forms of duress. There are different aspects of forced torture. Physical and psychological torture are both used to force a confession. Physical force in the USA is rare during a confession because it has been outlawed (Redich). Many people will confess the truth if they are innocent because they have been coerced or they believe that it will be more beneficial to confess than to maintain their innocence (Innocence Project). In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, there are many instances of forced confession. Throughout The Crucible, multiple people are accused of being a witch. When the public and church thought someone was a witch, the person had two options. They could confess and say that they were a witch or they could be hung and die. This brings up the question, how does force confession affect the people in The Crucible? Physical force can be effective in getting people to confess, but there is no evidence suggesting that the information gained from physical force is considered reliable and effective (Redich). This is because the victims understand that the physical force will not stop unless they confess information. Through the pain, some of the information may be accurate, but it will almost always be tied with inaccurate and misleading

But since it is labeled as a lifestyle disease, many people, both lay people and experts, only look at overweight and obese individual s lifestyles and criticizes them. But not to look at wider possibilities that could be having a great influence on this epidemic (Warwick Booth, Cross, and Lowcock, 2012). This can be seen in how people talk about obesity and also obese and overweight people. It also affects how people try to solve this problem. The most popular view about how obesity is formed and why it is increasing is that people are eating a lot more food or more calorically dense foods and not exercising enough. Which is true, people are not as active or eating as healthily as before. This could be due to more busy lifestyles where people cannot work out as much or prepare healthy meals at home so they eat out. Life in modernized countries has become very convenient, we have cars and other types of transport, plus we have grocery stores (in most places), convenient stores, vending machines in many public builds, restaurants (both fancy and fast food) that we can go to or deliver to us and we can order junk food online to have junk food from different countries. This causes less activity since now we don t need to close by walk places, but it also causes less healthy food choices since they are of an abundant supply.

(20 pts) Optimism can be a powerful tool to motivate people to do things that we might have reservations about. Humans have the intellectual power to look ahead and anticipate any likely outcomes. In our everyday lives we take on numerous tasks a throughout our live whether it is studying for finals, starting a new project at work or starting a new diet. An article by Annie Paul in Psychology Today gave the example of how even an ordinary effort like going on a diet can benefit from dose of optimism. A review of dieting studies show that more than two thirds of dieters gain back more weight than they initially thought. With such a grim outlook on dieting, optimism gives people the much needed motivation to believe that their goal is achievable (Paul 2011). If you stopped and took a minute to think about how much work you had to put in or how much of a risk you could be taking, you might never even make the attempt. Optimism has such a commanding force that it has the ability to convince you that things will work out just long enough to take the step forward and make an effort to accomplish that task. My cousin was arguing that anything could be art, while my brother was saying how when he goes to a museum he becomes angry when he sees canvases painted white or just one color. I had just been learning about this topic in my Design class, but instead of contributing I sat beside them listening to their conversation, and kept my thoughts and opinions to myself. My 10 week blog has given me a larger insight to the possibilities and expectations of business management. Not only did I blog about business management but also about starting up a business of my own. Collectively, my blogwas a learning experience about the businessworld and all it has to offer. If I could tie together all of the knowledge I have gained from my blog and research I would categorize it as motivation and risk. With an unmotivated attitude you aren t capable of taking the necessary risks that are pertinent to the field of business. With a field that is based on getting out what you put in there is minimal room for a lack of enthusiasm but rather requires self propelled success. You are the exact determinate to your success or failure when getting yourself involved. I have learned that being successful in business relates a lot to what type of person you are. With something as risky as trying to start up a business, as an individual, you must be willing to take on any risk. Your personality comes into play with business as well because of the connections that must be built to insure cushion for your business. Getting yourself out into the business world and creating endless connections is the epitome of a great businessperson. Another aspect to the great businessperson is the comfort level of risk to their ideas. All ideas you create should be

  • 40. The Importance Of A Successful Firm Is Good Communication The cornerstone to a successful firm is good communication. Without it, there is confusion, resentment, and a blurry vision for the direction the company wants to go. In order to ensure there is successful communication amongst the managers and its employees of the firm, a communication contract should be created. This contract establishes ethical communicationand rules for which each individual is to follow when communicating with others. Aside from creating excellent communication within the firm, the communication contract creates long lasting benefits for the firm and creates a solid foundation. Other communication strategies may create short term profits but do not have the long lasting benefits of an ethical communication contract. The communication contract I would propose to the firm I work for would have six clauses. They would be the immunity clause, the respect clause, the need for change clause, the switched roles clause, the bottom up clause, and the key focus clause. The immunity clause stipulates that anything said or brought about is done so without any consequence. The motivation behind this clause is that too many good suggestions or ideas or constructive criticisms are held back because employees fear that they will be reprimanded or even lose their job because of the criticism. With the immunity clause employees can share their true feelings and critiques and that will be honored rather than rebuked. A companion to the immunity clause is the respect

Not only have they built up a forum for how policymaking is organized and overall studied, they have also illuminated new ways to carry out our judicial systems. Two of the major component thinkers that attributed to the growth of politicsas a whole were Aristotleand Plato. These two philosophers not only presented new theories but also changed how legislation is viewed by the world and potential lawmakers. To bring this topic into being, we must first analyze what politics was and is today in our society and how our views were constructed on this topic. According to the Meriam Webster Dictionary,... In order to elucidate the term of a leader, the book gave various anecdotes in order to portray the qualities of a good leader. Webster s dictionary defines leadership as the position or function of a person who guides or directs a group. With this given definition by Webster, it could be assumed that politics is associated with leadership, because of the ramifications of the presidential election and the political parties. In the words of Bernard Montgomery of the British Field Marshal he also attempts to define the word leader by declaring that Leadership is the capacity and will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which inspires confidence. During the summer of 2016, my family and I went on a three week road trip starting in Chestertown, NY, and going as far west as Yellowstone National Park. The first stop on the trip was Niagara Falls. We went at night, and the water was lit up in various colors, it was pretty cool. These days heading out west were mainly long days in the truck followed up with even more long days in the truck. Before we went to on the trip, I thought that the trip down to Albany took forever, but a couple of fifteen plus hour drives going out west made going to Albany seem like it was just down the road. This particular one focuses on the events leading the death of an old man, and the events afterwards. That s the basics of it, but there are many deep meanings hidden in the three page short story. Poe uses techniques such as first person narrative, irony and style to pull off a believable sense of paranoia. In this particular story, Poe decided to write it in the first person narrative. This technique is used to get inside the main character s head and view his thoughts and are often exciting. The narrator in the Tell Tale Heart is telling the story on how he killed the old man while pleading his sanity. To quote a phrase... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poe s economic style of writing is a key instrument in making this story amazing. In this story, he uses his style to truly bring out what he intended for the story a study of paranoia. In example, I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! Yes, it was this! One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture a pale blue eye with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me my blood ran cold, and so by degrees, very gradually, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye for ever. it is easy to see that Poe used short sentences, to capture the rapid thoughts of a twisted mind. Perhaps the biggest element in this story is the use of irony, both verbally and dramatically. For verbal irony, we can see clearly at the end that what the narrator tells the officers and how he acts on the outside, (in a cool manner , as he puts it) is much different than the chaos on the inside, as in what he wants to say. He sees the police as villains and wishes them to leave, but due to the situation, he had to keep them there. The more that he assures himself of his sanity near the end of the story and the more that he thinks that he is acting coolly, eventually leads him to reveal that he is the one that killed the old man after all. As for dramatic irony, since we know that the narrator is the one that killed the old man,

This case study report will discuss the clinical progression and presentation of this disease, define and describe what an autoimmune disorder is, outline what clinical testing is performed for proper diagnosis, and the treatments involved for management of the disease and those afflicted. According to my case study of an individual with the disease, progression of symptoms coincided with stressors involving life dilemmas and other illnesses (Vita, 2009). Stress affects the immune system either directly or indirectly through the nervous and endocrine systems. These immune modulations may contribute to the development of autoimmunity as well as the susceptibility to autoimmune disease in genetically predisposed individuals. Stress can be one of the environmental factors for thyroid autoimmunity (Mizokami, 2005). Physical signs/symptoms of the disease involve: bulging eyes (proptosis), vision issues, low tolerance to heat (increased sweating), massive weight loss, redness and thickening of the skin of the shins (pretibial myxedema), increased heartbeat /palpitations and fits of thyroid storm if untreated (Graves Disease and Thyroid Foundation, 2014). The eyes are affected due to the similarities of this tissue to the thyroid. The eyes are particularly vulnerable to Graves eye disease, because the autoimmune attack often targets the eye muscles and connective tissue within the eye socket. This likely occurs because these tissues contain proteins that appear similar to the immune system as those of the thyroid gland (Kellog Eye Center, 2014). TSI assaults tissues of the thyroid and the eyes. Other related symptoms are caused by the homeostatic connection of the

Because he does not acquire the ability to fight of Grendel, Unferth then tries to talk Beowulf out of the battle. Although Unferth does not support Beowulf going to fight Grendel in fear of the success, the rest of the town supports Beowulf. Unferth even goes to the extent of questioning the truth behind the swimming match between Brecca and Beowulf, in which of course Beowulf won. The outcome between Grendel and Beowulf then push the fate of all characters to come. Oren Falk, a professor at Cornell University, discusses the fate behind Beowulf s ideas and potential plans. The plan contains the idea of putting himself on the line for the good of the community: He leaps into the water not with a design to lay claim or bring liberty to a soggy bottom, but with the hope of defeating the Grendelkin on their own turf so that the land above mere level be made safe for men again (Falk 5).Consequently, all the fame goes to Beowulf for his successes in defeating Grendel and Grendel s mother. He dives into the repulsive water not knowing if he will rise back up. The reasoning for his efforts to make the land safe again become shaped from Beowulf s good soul, doing it for the benefit of others rather than himself. His error of judgment in this case does not exists because he makes the choice in thought of the townspeople. Beowulf s error of judgement take effect
