Pearl and Dean task 14
The company pearl and is able to display adverts that appeal to its audience as it uses
the annual FAME survey to provide audience profile data for each individual film. Over
one thousand adults and children above the age of seven participate in this survey
which is carried out for over twenty-four weeks per year. Twenty five films are monitored
weekly, displaying various factors such as age, sex, religion, ethnicity and social class.
It is estimated that 24,000 adults and 3,000 kids take part in this survey each year.
FAME stands for film audience measurement and evaluation. FAME is the cinema
industry's key marketing tool for analyzing people's behavior whilst watching a film. This
survey was launched in 2007 and replaced the ancient currency CAVIAR.
The FAME survey is extremely targeted, interviewing only those who have been to the
cinema in the last 6 months this ensures that all respondents have cinema and film
experiences. With a sample size of 3,300 respondents aged seven plus, FAME is able
to provide in-depth insight into the behavior of both adults and children. FAME also asks
parents with children aged 4 - 6 yrs about the cinema going and film consumption of
their children, allowing for analysis of this audience.
By being constantly in field, film monitor allows important information to be collected
whilst films are still being displayed. The methodology allows selective samples for
more popular films to be released closer to the release of the actual film.
