1. Kamron Grant – hashtags that are trending
There are many benefits of using social media for a movement or campaign as multimedia
platforms allow a widespread population to see your movement and can help you gain
support from other communities .Smartphones have taken over the world meaning that the
internet allows the globe to have access information will simply be addressing the hashtags
that have trended in recent years.
The black lives matter hashtag first formed in the US on July the 13th 2013 due to the fatal
shooting of Trayvon Martin, who was shot dead by the police while he was unarmed. Black
lives matter is a social movement aims to address and solve police brutality on the African
American community. In 24 states, 40 unused measures to alter the way police interact with
the public have been presented since the Ferguson protests. The measures incorporate
body-worn cameras, limitations on military gear for use by law enforcement, racial bias
mindfulness training, and independent examinations. Multimedia platforms had a
significant impact on the overall callosity of the black lives matter movement as the protest
and public outrage was covered across the globe whilst it was displayed on mainstream
news channels daily. The most notorious founders are Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi.
Islamphobia (dislike of or prejudice against Islamor Muslims, especially as a political force)
has been a huge problem in today's society as it creates a negative stigma associated with
the Muslim community.in my opinion due to poor journalism and tactical media coverage
institutions and the leaders of multimedia platforms have contributed to the high increase
in Islamophobia. Evidence to support this is that in the US, terror attacks carried out by
Muslims receive more than five times more coverage than non-Muslim terror attacks
according to an academic study. Islamophobic assaults soared more than 500% in
Manchester after the suicide bombarding at an Ariana Grande concert. There were 224
reports of prejudice crimes committed against Muslims after the bombing compared to the
37 before the attack.
The “Me Too” hashtag started to address sexual harassment that women experience
particularly in the workplace. The hashtag started to trend in October 2017 soon after
Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual misconduct and harassing females. Tarana Burke
started the hashtag to empower women through empathy especially young vulnerable black
women. The hashtag is most commonly used by women in the US. Women from all over the
world have come forward to share their story of being sexually harassed. They have done it
on social media using the hashtag "Me Too", which aims to show the magnitude of sexual
assault.
To summarise it is evident that social media can have a huge impact on how successful a
campaign can be as most of these hashtags were created via media platforms. All of the
hashtags mentioned above trended on twitter which is an application used by people across
the globe. This allowed everyone’s opinions whether negative or positive to be heard.
