The Article Why Students Hate School Lunch By Kate Murphy
Every weekday in America millions of kids and teens line up in their schools to buy a lunch. Many of
those students buying lunch typically do not even enjoy what they are given. The article Why Students
Hate School Lunch by Kate Murphy argues about why students are wasting much if their meals due to
recent health changes whereas the article Why Some Schools Are Saying No Thanks to the School
Lunch Program by Alexandra Sifferlin argues on why schools are dropping the new health programs
because students are wasting food or not buying at all. Looking at both articles they both question and
argue why schools and students are not satisfied with the Healthy Hunger Free Act of 2012. This act is
causing students to not eat school lunches and money to be wasted. Both articles argue against the
Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act but the difference between the two articles explain is that one argues a
student s opinion versus the other that explains the economic effect it takes on schools.
In Murphy s article she argues how students are not satisfied with these changes over the past few
years. She argues how students are wasting their food and money due to the Health, Hunger Free Act.
Food and nutrition directors at school districts nationwide say that their trash cans are overflowing
while their cash register receipts are diminishing as children either toss out the healthier meals or opt
to brown bag it. ( Murphy, She argues how this act causes students waste most of their lunches

Eugenics Movement During The Early 1900 s
The eugenics movement was a very influential movement in America that was very prevalent during
the early 1900 s. The premise of the eugenics movement was that society could be scientifically
improved by classifying ranking members of society and trying to prevent those who were ranked low
from reproducing. The eugenics movement was born out of the desire for the upper and middle classes
of society to try and prove, scientifically, that they were superior to those who were in the lower
classes. The people who typically made up the lower classes were usually immigrants and those who
were of a different race. Eugenics was essentially the method that was used to try and exert control
over the lower classes while validating the idea that those in the upper and middle classes were
superior. The concept of trying to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there were definitely a lot of moments where the eugenics movement seemed to be more
concerned with proving past prejudices rather than actually looking for ways to improve future
generations. All of the Craniometry tests and IQ tests seemed to be more concerned with proving what
America already believed: that it was the superior group of people. The idea that these classifications
of people could help produce a better society is the main part of the eugenics movement that seemed
to be the most forward looking. The Fitter Families contests Selden discusses are a good example of
the eugenics movement attempting to be more focused on the future (Selden 2005, 221). Even with
this focus on the future, it still seemed as though the eugenics movement was concerned with fixing
the mistakes of the past. While the eugenics movement may have been started under the premise of
improving the future, a lot of it seemed to be heavily influenced by the

Lebron James s Life And Accomplishments
Did you know that LeBron James s 1st sports team were the South Rangers, a football team? LeBron
James, the famous basketball player, born in Akron, Ohio, started off as the stereotypical boy that you
would find in a rough neighbourhood. Through determination, skill, practice, etc. LeBron was able to
climb out of the stereotypical hole he was born into, and the beginning of that fight sparked the start of
a life full of achievements, money, excitement, and has also allowed LeBron to give the kind of
comfort and security to his family that he never had as a child. Fatherless boy to Basketball legend,
LeBron James has not led a boring life.

youngest person to score more than forty points and later broke his own record by scoring fifty six (

victories and a few defeats, and LeBron once more found himself participating in a very prestigious
event. He was in the 2008 Olympics. He and his team were able to deliver a victory for the U.S. by

everybody involved with the Cavaliers. Lebron decided to leave the Cavaliers and become a free agent

Religious Conflict Through the Ages Essay
Religious Conflict Through the Ages
The role religion plays in world history is, at best, tremendous. Through the ages, religion has both
unified and divided civilizations often bringing extreme human casualty, in the case of division, or
creating interesting new cultures, in the case of the latter. In the Ancient civilizations such as the
Greek, Kush and Egyptian empires religion serves as a catalyst further strengthening the bond found
in such homogeneous societies. In these civilizations it is important to note that the inhabitants did not
conceive of religion in terms of a belief system in a higher moral authority, rather, the belief system
was such a part of their lifestyle that there was no differentiation. In discussing ... Show more content

However, three distinctions can be outlined in this discussion. Firstly, religion serves as a catalyst
further unifying homogeneous civilizations such as the Greek, Ku*censored*e and Egyptian societies,
secondly, religion serves as a primary focus of difference when two homogeneous societies, such as
the Muslims and the Christians involve themselves in a conflict for spiritual dominance, and, thirdly,
how religion, in some homogenous societies such as the Protestant Reformation of the late Tudor and
early Stuart dynasties in England, serves to divide the people. Religious observance in ancient
civilizations serves to further bridge the connectedness that the people of those societies felt. In the
ancient Greek, Ku*censored*e and and Egyptian cultures religion was such a integral part of their
lifestyle that it was totally indistinguishable in terms of contemporary classifications. The ancient
Greeks held close to a common polytheistic belief system and operated the government, domestic
lifestyle, and recreation from this system. The evidence is abounds in that the Olympic Games were
held at the feast of Zeus at Olympia in Elis, and the Pythian Games were held at Delphi, in honor of
Apollo. Although the Greeks were advanced in the governmental procedures such as their creation of
the republic, Kings such as

Dr Caligari Comparison
Hans Janowitz s and Carl Mayers s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is the first and most influential silent
expressionist horror movie that paved the way for horror movies of the future. This movie is directed
by Robert Wiene, who gave this horror film a unique dark and twisted style. The Cabinet of Dr.
Caligari tells a tale of psychological guilt and insanity through the main character s unconscious
fantasies and delusions. Francis is the real sociopath in this film, who assisted in Alan s murder. He
creates a theme of unconscious formation; using his imagination, to prevent blame of the murder to be
placed on himself. This is an example of Sigmund Freud s classification of a wish fulfillment
nightmare. Francis creates a make believe story

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary Vengeance or revenge is defined as a punishment
inflicted in retaliation for an injury or offense . Vengeance could be classified as a form of justice at

The love a mother shares for her child is unexpectedly powerful, and although Grendel s mother may
be weaker and smaller in size compared to Beowulf, she has he own advantages, as she is fighting in
her own cave which was under the lake. She put up a fight under her mother s fury, and her spike and
heath of revenge as she realizes that it was Beowulf that killed her son, although Beowulf defeated her
with the help of his weapons and his skills from being a warrior. Grendel s mom was the first fight of
revenge within the poem, and it served as a warning to mankind, that everyone must not fight based
purely on revenge, and it will not end in favor of the city. It therefore, proves that that holding on to
someone or something for long periods of time, could eventually destroy oneself mentally or
physically. It is interesting to that the revenge of Grendel s mother almost was a example to take not,
that revenge doesn t solve our problems, this seems to be mentioned again at the end of the poem by
Wiglaf.
Another example of revenge seen in the poem Beowulf is the Germanic tribe. With this example, it is
unique in the sense that the Germanic tribe was used in hopes of peace in Garland. Hrothgar was
hoping to make peace by having his daughter marry into the Hathobards. Although upon, Beowulf

Criminology And Sociology And Criminology
Where the Two Meet
Criminology is where criminal justice and Sociology meet and come together. Sociology is a social
science where the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society happen.
Criminology is also a social science that studies crime and criminal behavior. Sociologists, by
studying society and relationships, are able to determine the thoughts and actions of individuals or
criminals. Each science can relate to other sciences and Criminology relates to Psychology, Sociology
and more. Sociology and Criminology both contribute to society. Every day were faced with new and

Another social issue that is a problem with in society today would be opinions. People are allowed to
have a difference of opinion. We are all able to believe different and not think the same and still live in
harmony. There needs to be an understanding and respect in difference of opinions. On the other hand,
Criminology is about the crime and criminals in society. It involves law enforcement and the criminal
justice system. Criminal justice and Criminology are related fields, but are not the same things.
Criminal justice focuses more on upholding social control and Criminology is the study of the crimes
and criminals. Whereas, both are just as important. Criminology, with the help of other social sciences,
go deep within the criminal and the crime to get to the bottom of what they are thinking, what has
made them do it, why they did it, what is next, and also how to stop it and how to prevent it from

Throughout The Ritual Of Death Essay
1.Throughout the ritual of death and burial, what is the most important thing to take away from the
ritual.
I think for me personally, is to take away the fact that the person who is leaving or spiritual world, is
going to a better place. We can take away the knowledge that we know our friend is going to a more
peaceful place. Also it s important to take away that we know the person in the death ritual is leaving

2. what are the key symbols that are used throughout the ritual?
The Priest s Vestments

The funeral pall points back to the white garment given us at our Baptism and symbolizes our life in
Christ. It is draped over the coffin at the beginning of the liturgy, usually by family members. Symbols
of Christian Life
A symbol of Christian life, such as a bible, a book of the gospels, or a cross may be placed on the
coffin as a sign that the Christian is marked, in Baptism, and through Jesus victory over death is
brought to eternal life. Reconciliation
Often, the death of a loved one touches family members and friends who have become alienated from
God and wish to become reconciled. The parish priest may assist in that process by offering the
opportunity for the sacrament of penance or reconciliation at the church or funeral home before calling

The Prevention of Nosocomial Infections
The ideal image of a hospital is a safe place of sanctuary and healing, while in reality hospitals are an
ideal place to spread infection, because in one place you have lots of people with infection, lots of
vulnerable people and lots of traffic between infected and vulnerable people. A nosocomial infection
can be defined as a local or systemic condition resulting from an infectious agent that occurs during
admission to a healthcare facility, but was not present on admission. Viruses are a significant cause of
nosocomial infection, accounting for 5% of all nosocomial infections in healthcare facilities annually
in our healthcare facilities (Wright Bieluch, 1993). Viral infections are generally most common in
infants and children; however other groups can be affected including the elderly, patients with
underlying medical conditions, immunocompromised patients and those in long term healthcare
facilities. These nosocomial viral infections are often associated with increased morbidity and
mortality. The steps taken in preventing the transmission of nosocomial infections is the responsibility
of all healthcare personnel. Infection control teams must be established to allow everyone involved in
the delivery of healthcare to work together in preventing these deadly pathogenic infections in the
vulnerable healthcare environment. Evidently, there is a broad spectrum of nosocomial viruses ranging
from blood borne viruses to enteric and respiratory pathogens (Sidler et al.,

Social Identity
There are multiple social identities a person holds such as race, sex, class and sexual orientation. In
each society there is typically a group within each of these categories that benefits from their
membership in that group, commonly referred to as the dominant group. Accordingly, there is a group,
or groups, that hurt from not being a part of the dominant group. While there are hundreds of cultures
and societies around the globe, many of the same groups consistently dominate within an identity. An
identity I have that falls under the privileged group within America is being white. The benefits I have
received from being apart of this social group have existed since I first entered school at the age of
four and I continue to benefit from them, under no fault or good behavior of my own. In a previous
Human Relations course I took, we discussed the difference in how dominant and subordinate groups
go about their day to day life. One of the major differences happens around the time a person enters
school. An easy way to generally know if you belong to a privileged group is to ask yourself if you
ever had to be taught about what it means to belong to that group. In other words, who has to be taught
what it means to be born into the body they were born into. As a white person growing up in middle
class, Midwestern America, I was never taught about what it means to be white. This alone is a
privilege because I have been able to live my entire life without ever being

Understanding Heart Failure
Understanding Heart Failure
Heart failure is a condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood through the
heart to meet the body s need for blood and oxygen. Coronary artery disease is a form of heart disease
that effects the chambers of the heart. There are four chambers in the heart. The upper chambers
consist of a right and a left atrium and the lower chamber consists of the right and left ventricles. The
flow of oxygen rich blood travels from the lungs to the left atrium and into the left ventricle where it is
pumped into the rest of the body. When the heart functions properly, all four chambers beat and pump
blood effectively in an organized way. The Virtual Medical Centre (Centre, 2008) newsletter states

he believed that computers should be more human compatible. The computer graphics industry later

A Survey Of The New Testament
A Survey of the New Testament The New Testament is defined as part of the Bible concerned with the
life and teachings of Christ and his earliest followers (American Century Dictionary 387). The Son of
God comes to Earth to save us from our sins and to teach us a new way of serving the Lord. Animal
sacrifice is done away with because Jesus died for our sins as a perfect sacrifice and his sacrifice is
everlasting. Jesus explained, for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but
that the world through him might be saved (John 3.17). This collection consists of twenty seven
books, in which I will break down into five sections. First are the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke,
and John, the book of Acts, which is commonly classified as a book of history. Next are the epistles of
Paul which are the book of Romans through Philemon, the general epistles of Hebrews through Jude,
and the prophecy book of Revelation. 1. The Gospels The book of Matthew provides a detailed
account of the life of Jesus and establishes that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who fulfills the Old
Testament prophesies (Wiersbe 627). The author Matthew is primarily aiming his writings at the Jews
to let them know that he is the savior who is referred to several times in the Old Testament (Isiah 7:14,

Cobain was taken from home due to a possible suicide attempt days prior, in which he locked himself

A text is essentially a product of its context, as its prevailing values are inherently derived by the

Significantly, this may occur as connections between texts are explored. These notions are reflected in

the human resources representatives. It was an information session regarding the safety rules and
discipline. In the afternoon, I participated in a tour of the department and was introduced to various
personnel. The second day of my internship, I was involved in a safety training, and some outdoor
activities, such as flagging on the road side and backing up ODOT s trucks. In the afternoon, I met
with my supervisor, who introduced me to each member of the department of planning and
engineering design where I will be working for two mouths, and after join the construction department
for the rest of internship. Wednesday, I met again with my supervisor who gave me my schedule, and
put me in contact with a design engineer for a training in Micro station, a graphic engineering
software used by the department of planning and engineering for drawing and design purposes. In the
afternoon, I spent my time learning about Micro station and get to know more about the software.
Thursday morning, I started working with the features and tools found in the Micro station design
environment, and also learned about the basics parts of an engineering design. The rest of the day, I
started to draw with the software. Friday morning, the supervisor encourage me to keep working more
with Micro station. In the afternoon, I worked with Micro station. The rest of the day, I met with the

Depression And Seasonal Affective Disorder
Introduction Mental health and optimal functioning are, of course, very important in any discussion of
public health. Depression and more specifically Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) can happen to
anyone, and it is important to be treated when experiencing health problems like these. While I have
never experienced seasonal depression, its temporal nature and the treatment of the disorder interest
me. I researched SAD when I considered studying it as a topic for my undergraduate senior thesis.
During the thesis preparation process, I looked at articles about SAD and its common used treatment
of light therapy. I recently revisited one of those articles (Rossman, 2010), and the article piqued my
interest in writing about how light therapy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This effect is quicker than the time it takes for antidepressant drugs to begin working. In a study
involving eleven adult participants between the ages of 26 39 who were diagnosed with Seasonal
Affective Disorder, light therapy produced a reduction of 5 HTT BPND (serotonin transporter
binding) in the anterior cingulate and prefrontal cortices (which play a role in negative emotions and
the recall of positive events, respectively) (Tyrer et al., 2016). More specifically, the researchers
concluded that light therapy produces an effect on the retina and dorsal raphe nucleus, as well as in
connections through the suprachiasmatic nucleus and hypothalamic dorsomedial nucleus to the
median raphe nuclei that potentially decrease 5 HTT levels globally across the brain. This treatment
effect significantly helped with participants SAD symptoms, and it points to a tangible and clinically
effective result in the brain from light therapy treatment. In another study involving twelve adult
participants between the ages of 18 59 who had a diagnosis of Seasonal Affective Disorder, light
therapy was found to help correct the natural melatonin secretion cycle (Rice, Mayor, Tucker, Bielski,
1995). Melatonin is a hormone secreted at nighttime by the pineal gland, and plays a role in human
sleep and wake cycles by aiding the process of sleep.

Michael Phelps Is An International Swimming Sensation
Michael Phelps is an international swimming sensation from the United States. Born in 1985 in
Baltimore Maryland, he began swimming at an early age. By age fifteen, he competed in his first
Olympics as a member of the U.S. men s swim team. Not seven years later, Phelps dominated the next
Olympic Games and set the world records.
Phelps is most known for his Olympian status and endorsement deals. At just twenty two years old,
Phelps set the world record for men s swimming medals earned during the Olympics. He also set the
record for most medals won by an Olympian athlete. Michael Phelps became the face of men s

After a divorce in the family, many children act out, rebel, and get themselves into trouble. The
divorce did not cause any undue harm on Phelps per se. He maintained his health and fitness levels
and was determined to keep swimming.
Water is always nearby in the Baltimore, Maryland area, and most residents gravitate towards the
water via boating and swimming. Phelps took a love of water more seriously and began to hone his
swimming skills to become the best in Maryland. Soon after wishing to become the best in Maryland,
Phelps set his sights on the Olympics. He began swimming at a high school pool and training at an
aquatic club in Maryland. The coach could sense the fierce competition and skill Phelps portrayed in
the water and began to work with Michael with intense training sessions. At age fifteen, Phelps was
the youngest member of the Olympic American male swim team in sixty eight years. He did not win
any medals at this Olympic Games, but he made the team, set a record, and left determined to try
again.
Michael Phelps had ample time to drop out of swimming, pursue other interests, or become
discouraged. Despite being the youngest man on most every swim team, and not winning as many
awards early on, Phelps continued to train and workout daily and stuck to a strict diet designed to keep
his body in ideal shape for swimming. His

The Holocene epoch continues from 11 500 years ago until the nowadays and still keep going. Sixth
Extinction event can be blamed for significant loss of larger mammals (woolly mammoth, cave lion,
cave bear and etc.) during the end of Ice Age extinction event 9 000 to 13 000 years ago, which was

which smothered CO2 into the atmosphere, which did not let heat go out through the atmosphere,

Suicide Note Poem Analysis
The poem Suicide Note , written by Janice Mirikitani (1987), talks about a young lady, who has study
in an Asian American female college. The lady, unfortunately, commits suicide by jumping out her
dormitory s window. She left behind a note, citing reasons that led to her actions. After a critical
analysis of the note, her parents were held responsible for her actions; they were pressurizing her to
perform better on her exams. The poem describes the feelings and the emotions of this young lady,
who believes that committing suicide is the only option left to please her parents and to escape the
enormous pressure placed on her. The persona uses a voice in the poem to bring attention to the
suffering she was going through and that led to the devastating event. Voice in poetry is the strong
words of a line or stanza that creates a relationship between the audience and the persona. Also, voice
can be categorized as imagery patterns of sounds created by rhythm, tone, and diction (Gahern 166).
The following is a description of how the voice in Mirikitani s suicide note help readers understand
the imagery, metaphor, sound patterns, tone and dictation.
Ink smeared like bird prints in snow is the first simile that appears in the poem and serve multiple
purposes. The most obvious one is the creation of imagery, where it compares the black words the
persona writes on paper to the bird s foot prints that are left behind when a bird walks on snow. The
imagery alludes to the persona

Are High School Sports Good For Kids Essay
For many young people in America, sports are their dreams and hopes. And this is not
without reason. Research has shown that children who participate in athletics are happier and
more goal driven than their non athletic peers. High school athletics are still a highly beneficial
activity for young people everywhere, and this is why it is important for sports programs across
the country to stay right where they are. Sports programs should be kept in high schools because
they have a positive effect on academics, they improve determination, and they bring people

the dangers of obesity, inactivity, and loneliness. Some say that children are being taught that

Microbial Fuel Cells use bacteria to convert waste into electrical energy. These bacteria break down

This cell uses bacteria like Shewanella oneidensis and Rhodoferax ferrireducens and many labs are
attempting to find better strains of bacteria more suited to the process (3). This fuel cells work in two
parts. Basically, the microbial fuel cell has two halves, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic means with
presence of oxygen, anaerobic means a lack of oxygen. When bacteria consume their food in aerobic
conditions they produce carbon dioxide and water, however when it s in an anaerobic condition they
produce carbon dioxide, electrons and protons. The MFC has the bacteria put in the anaerobic
chamber of the cell and decompose water material that contain glucose and/or acetate. The bacteria
also free hydrogen ions and electrons. The electrons flow from an anode into the cathode. The
hydrogen ions however just pass through the barrier; soon the electrons and hydrogen ions are in the
aerobic chamber and combine with the oxygen forming h2o. The H2O is released and electrical
energy is produced from the transfer off the energy between the Anode and Cathode (or Anaerobic and
Aerobic chambers).
Microbial Fuel Cells have a large variety of benefits due to its versatility and choice of fuel.
Firstly it can use most biodegradable organic matter including human and animal waste, sewage, etc.
This is great as there is no limit to the fuel and it is easy to find. Secondly, it reduces cost

The Effect Of Hieroglyphics On The Rosetta Stone
Arguably one of the most important discoveries made regarding the historical and cultural study of
ancient Egypt is the translation of the writing form known as hieroglyphics. This language, lost for
thousands of years, formed a tantalizing challenge to a young Jean François who committed his life to
its translation. Scholars such as Sylvestre de Sacy had attempted to translate the Rosetta Stone before
Champollion, but after painstaking and unfruitful work, they abandoned it (Giblin 32). Champollion s
breakthrough with hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone opened up new possibilities to study and
understand ancient Egypt like never before, and modern Egyptology was born.

Although he was able to find them, he was not able to decipher an alphabetical system that applied to
the rest of the text. It seemed that the other symbols represented things, not letters. Having reached a
dead end in his work, he gave up, saying, The problem is too complicated, scientifically insoluble
(Giblin 32). A few others continued after him with the same idea of a solely alphabetical system, but
they all came to the same dead end and were not able to make any progress.
One of the first scholars to make any real headway on the translation was Thomas Young, a British
polymath (Silet 1). Being a polymath and not understanding any of the language to begin with, Young
meticulously inspected the stone, looking for recurring patterns and recording the number of times
each symbol was repeated (Meyerson 123). Young knew that Ptolemys were Greek, so he assumed
that the name Ptolemaios, spelled in the Greek style, would appear spelled the same way in the
hieroglyphic section. Indeed he did find several times the cartouche containing what he believed to
spell Ptolemaios (Giblet 40). He misunderstood a few of the symbols meanings, and it was later
discovered that the Egyptian spelling was Ptolmis, but Young had taken the first major steps into
translating the hieroglyphics (Giblet 41).

Summary Of On The Want Of Money By William Hazlitt
The excerpt from On the Want of Money by William Hazlitt is an outcry to humanity in response to
the realities of a world that revolves around currency. Hazlitt implores his audience through his
rhetoric to reflect on what they deem to be important, and to realize that their desires can be the very
thing restraining them from attaining their ambitions. Through the use of irony, hypothetical examples,
and figurative language William Hazlitt warns of the dangerous paths the pursuit of money can lead
to, and the ultimate demise of anyone who takes these paths. Throughout the text the author displays
the parallels between the pursuit of wealth and loss of freedom through irony. Hazlitt describes
holding the interest of money above all else as to forgo leisure, freedom, [and] ease of body and mind
(lines 12 13). Through this comparison he claims that living in want of wealth is to essentially give up
one s independence. Hazlitt specifically points out the irony in working a job for money without

states that lowered their religious values faster saw changes in women s voting behaviors move to the

a factor that can affect how they vote or who they decide to vote for. There is a common belief that
younger people tend to vote more democratic but studies show that this is not always what has

Schleroderma Research Paper
Although the specific cause of Scleroderma is unknown, there are a few main factors known to
identify with Scleroderma. Scleroderma affects not only the surface of the skin but the joints, bones
and in severe cases other internal organs such as heart, liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal system. The
main causes are over production of collagen and damage to blood pathways which lead to a change in
connective tissue. The overproduction of collagen is due to the hyperactivity of the autoimmune
system which signals the body to produce more collagen than needed which leads to thickening of the
skin, therefore restricting normal function.
More specifically, the body recognizes the antigen proteins on the connective tissues as damaged
tissue or foreign bodies. As a result, the autoimmune system goes into its defense mode which is a
hyperactive state. In this state, it produces an excess of antibodies and growth factors. Growth factors
are a hormone or substance that is required to stimulate growth or synthesis in cells. The specific
chemicals that are produced are cytokines and chemokines. Furthermore, cytokines and chemokines
which are produced in the blood are the chemical growth factors that assist with scar tissue repair by

Memory
1. Transience
This is the tendency to forget facts or events over time. You are most likely to forget information soon
after you learn it. However, memory has a use it or lose it quality: memories that are called up and
used frequently are least likely to be forgotten. Although transience might seem like a sign of memory
weakness, brain scientists regard it as beneficial because it clears the brain of unused memories,
making way for newer, more useful ones.

As with several other kinds of memory lapses, misattribution becomes more common with age. As
you age, you absorb fewer details when acquiring information because you have somewhat more
trouble concentrating and processing information rapidly. And as you grow older, your memories grow
older as well. And old memories are especially prone to misattribution.
5. Suggestibility
Suggestibility is the vulnerability of your memory to the power of suggestion information that you
learn about an occurrence after the fact becomes incorporated into your memory of the incident, even
though you did not experience these details. Although little is known about exactly how suggestibility
works in the brain, the suggestion fools your mind into thinking it s a real memory.
6. Bias
Even the sharpest memory isn t a flawless snapshot of reality. In your memory, your perceptions are
filtered by your personal biases experiences, beliefs, prior knowledge, and even your mood at the
moment. Your biases affect your perceptions and experiences when they re being encoded in your
brain. And when you retrieve a memory, your mood and other biases at that moment can influence
what information you actually recall.
Although everyone s attitudes and preconceived notions bias their memories, there s been virtually no
research on the brain mechanisms behind memory bias or whether it becomes more common with age.

Essay on Medieval Weapons
Medieval Weapons
Medieval society, in spite of its stereotypes, was not inherently more violent than modern society.
Although there was no state in the modern sense, and therefore no set of laws that inherently took
away the power of the average man or woman to exercise violence, the violence of the day was
considered differently, and with out the inherent sense of criminality that accompanies it today. Our
understanding of the weapons of the medieval world is skewed by the vast disarming of the the
civilian that is taken for granted today, yet is a vastly different situation compared to what existed in
many parts of the West as little as seven years ago.
Medieval weapons and armor are, for better or for worse, generally ... Show more content on

By the fourteenth century, improvements in the range and power of the crossbow had made it an
indispensable tool of war, and arguably the weapon of the cites and the seas. Time and time again in
the Crusades, the crossbow, and not force of the knight in mĂȘlĂ©e, proved the decisive factor. However,
although mounted crossbowmen were used extensively in Spain, crossbowmen could not maneuver
quickly while shooting, and this meant that they were vulnerable while used, for example, (by the
Ottomans at Necropolis and the English at Aginour but the archer simply could not hold open ground
against a well performed cavalry charge.
Perhaps paradoxically, the cavalry charge became more and more decisive as factors and the
battlefield arose that challenged it. The additional weight of heavier armor that would resist crossbow
bolts and, in northwest Europe, longbow arrows provided additional power for breaking formations. It
was an ongoing spiral of offense and defense as relatively light mail gave way to heavy mail, and then
mail with pieces of plate, and finally to the knight in full suits of plate armor. Just as archers and pole
arm equipped infantry had to adjust to increasingly heavy armor of the knight

  • 2. The Article Why Students Hate School Lunch By Kate Murphy Every weekday in America millions of kids and teens line up in their schools to buy a lunch. Many of those students buying lunch typically do not even enjoy what they are given. The article Why Students Hate School Lunch by Kate Murphy argues about why students are wasting much if their meals due to recent health changes whereas the article Why Some Schools Are Saying No Thanks to the School Lunch Program by Alexandra Sifferlin argues on why schools are dropping the new health programs because students are wasting food or not buying at all. Looking at both articles they both question and argue why schools and students are not satisfied with the Healthy Hunger Free Act of 2012. This act is causing students to not eat school lunches and money to be wasted. Both articles argue against the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act but the difference between the two articles explain is that one argues a student s opinion versus the other that explains the economic effect it takes on schools. In Murphy s article she argues how students are not satisfied with these changes over the past few years. She argues how students are wasting their food and money due to the Health, Hunger Free Act. Food and nutrition directors at school districts nationwide say that their trash cans are overflowing while their cash register receipts are diminishing as children either toss out the healthier meals or opt to brown bag it. • 3. Eugenics Movement During The Early 1900 s The eugenics movement was a very influential movement in America that was very prevalent during the early 1900 s. The premise of the eugenics movement was that society could be scientifically improved by classifying ranking members of society and trying to prevent those who were ranked low from reproducing. The eugenics movement was born out of the desire for the upper and middle classes of society to try and prove, scientifically, that they were superior to those who were in the lower classes. The people who typically made up the lower classes were usually immigrants and those who were of a different race. Eugenics was essentially the method that was used to try and exert control over the lower classes while validating the idea that those in the upper and middle classes were superior. The concept of trying to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there were definitely a lot of moments where the eugenics movement seemed to be more concerned with proving past prejudices rather than actually looking for ways to improve future generations. All of the Craniometry tests and IQ tests seemed to be more concerned with proving what America already believed: that it was the superior group of people. The idea that these classifications of people could help produce a better society is the main part of the eugenics movement that seemed to be the most forward looking. The Fitter Families contests Selden discusses are a good example of the eugenics movement attempting to be more focused on the future (Selden 2005, 221). Even with this focus on the future, it still seemed as though the eugenics movement was concerned with fixing the mistakes of the past. While the eugenics movement may have been started under the premise of improving the future, a lot of it seemed to be heavily influenced by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the ages, religion has both unified and divided civilizations often bringing extreme human casualty, in the case of division, or creating interesting new cultures, in the case of the latter. In the Ancient civilizations such as the Greek, Kush and Egyptian empires religion serves as a catalyst further strengthening the bond found in such homogeneous societies. Firstly, religion serves as a catalyst further unifying homogeneous civilizations such as the Greek, Ku*censored*e and Egyptian societies, secondly, religion serves as a primary focus of difference when two homogeneous societies, such as the Muslims and the Christians involve themselves in a conflict for spiritual dominance, and, thirdly, how religion, in some homogenous societies such as the Protestant Reformation of the late Tudor and early Stuart dynasties in England, serves to divide the people. Religious observance in ancient civilizations serves to further bridge the connectedness that the people of those societies felt. In the ancient Greek, Ku*censored*e and and Egyptian cultures religion was such a integral part of their lifestyle that it was totally indistinguishable in terms of contemporary classifications. The ancient Greeks held close to a common polytheistic belief system and operated the government, domestic lifestyle, and recreation from this system. • 10. The Prevention of Nosocomial Infections The ideal image of a hospital is a safe place of sanctuary and healing, while in reality hospitals are an ideal place to spread infection, because in one place you have lots of people with infection, lots of vulnerable people and lots of traffic between infected and vulnerable people. A nosocomial infection can be defined as a local or systemic condition resulting from an infectious agent that occurs during admission to a healthcare facility, but was not present on admission. Viruses are a significant cause of nosocomial infection, accounting for 5% of all nosocomial infections in healthcare facilities annually in our healthcare facilities (Wright Bieluch, 1993). Viral infections are generally most common in infants and children; however other groups can be affected including the elderly, patients with underlying medical conditions, immunocompromised patients and those in long term healthcare facilities. These nosocomial viral infections are often associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The steps taken in preventing the transmission of nosocomial infections is the responsibility of all healthcare personnel. Infection control teams must be established to allow everyone involved in the delivery of healthcare to work together in preventing these deadly pathogenic infections in the vulnerable healthcare environment. Evidently, there is a broad spectrum of nosocomial viruses ranging from blood borne viruses to enteric and respiratory pathogens (Sidler et al., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While there are hundreds of cultures and societies around the globe, many of the same groups consistently dominate within an identity. An identity I have that falls under the privileged group within America is being white. The benefits I have received from being apart of this social group have existed since I first entered school at the age of four and I continue to benefit from them, under no fault or good behavior of my own. In a previous Human Relations course I took, we discussed the difference in how dominant and subordinate groups go about their day to day life. One of the major differences happens around the time a person enters school. An easy way to generally know if you belong to a privileged group is to ask yourself if you ever had to be taught about what it means to belong to that group. In other words, who has to be taught what it means to be born into the body they were born into. • 36. The Effect Of Hieroglyphics On The Rosetta Stone Arguably one of the most important discoveries made regarding the historical and cultural study of ancient Egypt is the translation of the writing form known as hieroglyphics. This language, lost for thousands of years, formed a tantalizing challenge to a young Jean François who committed his life to its translation. Scholars such as Sylvestre de Sacy had attempted to translate the Rosetta Stone before Champollion, but after painstaking and unfruitful work, they abandoned it (Giblin 32). Champollion s breakthrough with hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone opened up new possibilities to study and understand ancient Egypt like never before, and modern Egyptology was born. The Rosetta Stone was found in the town of Rosetta and sent to French ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although he was able to find them, he was not able to decipher an alphabetical system that applied to the rest of the text. It seemed that the other symbols represented things, not letters. Having reached a dead end in his work, he gave up, saying, The problem is too complicated, scientifically insoluble (Giblin 32). A few others continued after him with the same idea of a solely alphabetical system, but they all came to the same dead end and were not able to make any progress. One of the first scholars to make any real headway on the translation was Thomas Young, a British polymath (Silet 1). Being a polymath and not understanding any of the language to begin with, Young meticulously inspected the stone, looking for recurring patterns and recording the number of times each symbol was repeated (Meyerson 123). Young knew that Ptolemys were Greek, so he assumed that the name Ptolemaios, spelled in the Greek style, would appear spelled the same way in the hieroglyphic section. Indeed he did find several times the cartouche containing what he believed to spell Ptolemaios (Giblet 40). He misunderstood a few of the symbols meanings, and it was later discovered that the Egyptian spelling was Ptolmis, but Young had taken the first major steps into translating the hieroglyphics (Giblet 41). • 37. Summary Of On The Want Of Money By William Hazlitt The excerpt from On the Want of Money by William Hazlitt is an outcry to humanity in response to the realities of a world that revolves around currency. Hazlitt implores his audience through his rhetoric to reflect on what they deem to be important, and to realize that their desires can be the very thing restraining them from attaining their ambitions. Through the use of irony, hypothetical examples, and figurative language William Hazlitt warns of the dangerous paths the pursuit of money can lead to, and the ultimate demise of anyone who takes these paths. Throughout the text the author displays the parallels between the pursuit of wealth and loss of freedom through irony. Hazlitt describes holding the interest of money above all else as to forgo leisure, freedom, [and] ease of body and mind (lines 12 13). Through this comparison he claims that living in want of wealth is to essentially give up one s independence. Hazlitt specifically points out the irony in working a job for money without passion by relating it to be[ing] deprived of the use of your fingers by transcribing Greek manuscript, or to be[ing] a ... Age Of The Voter Analysis dominance of religion in states changed women s views from conservative to more liberal, because states that lowered their religious values faster saw changes in women s voting behaviors move to the left side much faster than those that took longer (Emmenegger and Manow, 2014). Age of the voter is a factor that can affect how they vote or who they decide to vote for. There is a common belief that younger people tend to vote more democratic but studies show that this is not always what has happened in previous elections (Fisher, 2008). For example, Fisher explains how in the elections from 1960 through 1976 younger people were the most democratic but in elections from 1980 through 1992 younger people were the most republican voters (Fisher, ... • 39. Schleroderma Research Paper Although the specific cause of Scleroderma is unknown, there are a few main factors known to identify with Scleroderma. Scleroderma affects not only the surface of the skin but the joints, bones and in severe cases other internal organs such as heart, liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal system. The main causes are over production of collagen and damage to blood pathways which lead to a change in connective tissue. The overproduction of collagen is due to the hyperactivity of the autoimmune system which signals the body to produce more collagen than needed which leads to thickening of the skin, therefore restricting normal function. More specifically, the body recognizes the antigen proteins on the connective tissues as damaged tissue or foreign bodies. As a result, the autoimmune system goes into its defense mode which is a hyperactive state. In this state, it produces an excess of antibodies and growth factors. Growth factors are a hormone or substance that is required to stimulate growth or synthesis in cells. The specific chemicals that are produced are cytokines and chemokines. Furthermore, cytokines and chemokines which are produced in the blood are the chemical growth factors that assist with scar tissue repair by defending the body. It does this by stimulating the ... However, memory has a use it or lose it quality: memories that are called up and used frequently are least likely to be forgotten. Although transience might seem like a sign of memory weakness, brain scientists regard it as beneficial because it clears the brain of unused memories, making way for newer, more useful ones. 2. Absentmindedness This type of forgetting occurs when you don t pay close enough attention. You forget where you just put your pen because you didn t focus on where you put it in the first place. As with several other kinds of memory lapses, misattribution becomes more common with age. As you age, you absorb fewer details when acquiring information because you have somewhat more trouble concentrating and processing information rapidly. And as you grow older, your memories grow older as well. And old memories are especially prone to misattribution. 5. Suggestibility Suggestibility is the vulnerability of your memory to the power of suggestion information that you learn about an occurrence after the fact becomes incorporated into your memory of the incident, even though you did not experience these details. Although little is known about exactly how suggestibility works in the brain, the suggestion fools your mind into thinking it s a real memory. 6. In your memory, your perceptions are filtered by your personal biases experiences, beliefs, prior knowledge, and even your mood at the moment. Your biases affect your perceptions and experiences when they re being encoded in your brain. And when you retrieve a memory, your mood and other biases at that moment can influence what information you actually recall. Although there was no state in the modern sense, and therefore no set of laws that inherently took away the power of the average man or woman to exercise violence, the violence of the day was considered differently, and with out the inherent sense of criminality that accompanies it today. Our understanding of the weapons of the medieval world is skewed by the vast disarming of the the civilian that is taken for granted today, yet is a vastly different situation compared to what existed in many parts of the West as little as seven years ago. By the fourteenth century, improvements in the range and power of the crossbow had made it an indispensable tool of war, and arguably the weapon of the cites and the seas. Time and time again in the Crusades, the crossbow, and not force of the knight in mĂȘlĂ©e, proved the decisive factor. However, although mounted crossbowmen were used extensively in Spain, crossbowmen could not maneuver quickly while shooting, and this meant that they were vulnerable while used, for example, (by the Ottomans at Necropolis and the English at Aginour but the archer simply could not hold open ground against a well performed cavalry charge.
