Analysis Of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, is the number one cause of death among babies. It is
unexplainable, and happens while the baby is sleeping. It is sometimes known as crib death or cot
death. It is diagnosed after all of the causes of the baby s death, such as trauma, an infection, heart or
lung infection, have been eliminated. In 2010, there was a recorded amount of about two thousand
babies that died due to SIDS. Four years later, in 2014, the amount lowered to one thousand five
hundred. It often occurs to babies that are less than a year old. SIDS is most common with babies that
are in between the ages of two and four months. Ninety percent of the SIDS that have occurred are
before the baby reaches to six months. It is interesting

Punishment In The Middle Ages Essay
The fall of the Roman Empire marked the Middle Ages from 500ce to 1500ce which brought with it
new ideas and systems. As medieval society developed, changes and consistencies occurred in law and
order. In particular, continuity and change occurred in punishments, trial procedures, and court
systems.
Punishments in the Middle Ages were harsh and horrific, with change occurring as heads of state and
laws changed. In the Middle Ages, punishments were used as a deterrent to gain peasants obedience.
Types of punishments included torture, mutilation, and public humiliation. When the Normans
invaded England in the 11th century, (Norman Conquest of England, 2017) many changes were made
to punishments. William the Conqueror used the death penalty ... Show more content on

In the Early Middle Ages, only Trial by Ordeal was used. This trial was based on the belief that God
would save the Innocent and punish the guilty and had horrific methods, such as placing an arm in
boiling water or holding an iron bar. (Tol Zagora 2014, p. 63) With the Norman Conquest in 1066,
William the Conqueror introduced trial by combat (Rickards, 2012). Trial by combat was used for the
nobles, where the accused would fight the accuser. William the Conqueror believed that God would
protect the Innocent when the parties fought. The guilty would ve then be punished severely (Easton
Saldais 2011, pp. 330, 331). With the creation of the Magna Carta in 1215 (Trueman, 2016) there were
many changes to the Trial Procedures. The Magna Carta abolished Trial by Ordeal and replaced it with
Trial by Jury, which involved a jury hearing a case and deciding the guilt or innocence of the accused.
Many people didn t trust trial by jury, which led to a law being created in 1275 stating that if a
criminal didn t choose trial by jury then they were tortured (Addison, et al. 2011). Therefore, evidence
shows changes in power and laws transformed trial

Real Time Big Data Processing With Machine Learning
Real Time Big Data Processing with Machine Learning On Real Estate Business ABSTRACT Real
Time Big Data Processing with Machine Learning On Real Estate Business By Jasleen Kaur Raghav
Munjal Shubham Rajvanshi Della Sivakumar Data is a powerful weapon as well as a resource. Having
data does not make you powerful but what you do with it makes all the difference. Companies like
Amazon, eBay and Netflix are already using data to predict user behavior and utilizing that to increase
their revenue. But processing data in real time is not an easy task. The data today has great volume, is
veracious in nature and is increasing at an enormous rate and hence has been given the term Big Data.
There is a constant research going on to find a solution to process such huge amount of data in real
time. The Hadoop based batch processing is a powerful tool for analyzing data offline. But it fails to
process anything in real time. Highly sensitive situations like crediting card fraud detection,
networking fault prediction; threat detection and so on cannot be postponed for an offline analysis.
Situations like these need instant results because if something is not done to mitigate a potential threat
in real time, the damage may be catastrophic. The goal of this project is to come up with a scalable
and efficient solution which can process heterogeneous data in the most simplified design possible in
real time. Existing solutions are either not scalable or approach one kind of data and in

Miss Ferenczi Gryphon Teaching Style
In Gryphon, by Charles Baxter, Miss Ferenczi has an unconventional teaching style that positively
impacts the children by getting them interested in their education and the possibilities in the world.
Miss Ferenczi may not always teach what was in the curriculum, however, she causes the children to
educate themselves, not only in the classroom, but at home. After Miss Ferenczi tells the children
about the creature that was half bird and half lion in Egypt, the children are skeptical yet fascinated.
Tommy, the main character states, I ran into the living room, pulled out a dictionary next to the TV

The Importance Of Internet Censorship On The Internet
The Internet was first used in the 90s and became exponentially important to our life which has
uncountable benefits by connecting the world, increasing worldwide security, providing an easy
access to the knowledge. While the exploration of the technology can use for several wonderful
purposes, it is also a double edged sword. Today, by searching word on google, a 6 year old kid can
easily access a legal pornography website without any troubles. This caused the controversial
argument that whether or not the Internet should be censored for violent and sexual content? Even
though the violent and sexual content on the Internet can bring some benefits for the adults, it should
have a limit access to protect minors from the disadvantages of human sexual corruption, sexual
harassment, and especially child pornography. If this idea was used all around the world, it will open a
fresh future for children and a big improvement for the society.
The definition of Internet Censorship expresses as the act of banning or blocking some or all of
content that can be published, viewed and accessed online include governments, private sectors and
individuals with a common goal to control what people can read and post on the World Wide Web ( G,
2015). This is a right decision for the case of our world, where children are the victims of the sexual
corruption. Some people argue that this act is a violation of their freedom which against the human
rights. In fact, this is not completely true: an

Fictional Character Analysis
Three Fictional Characters Have you ever found yourself relate to a fictional character? The three
fictional characters that most represent my personality are Tina Belcher for her awkwardness , Connie
Maheswaran for her introvertedness, and Emily for her kindness. Although Tina is a fictional character
who works at her family restaurant and spends a lot of her time just wandering around does not mean
we don t have similar characteristics. We are first introduced to Tina Belcher in the very first episode
of Bob s Burgers, it s the grand re opening of her father s restaurant and isn t very eager to start.
However she continues to work because it makes her father happy even though her father insults her
by saying she s not good with customers so she has to stay behind the grill. Tina is a quirky girl
transitioning from childhood to adolescence. Her inner child continues to be hung up on her love of
horses, rainbows and zombies, while her inner teenager calls her to write her feelings/activities in a
diary and fantasize about her crush Jimmy Pesto. Usually that is what makes her different from
everybody else, she s still has some inner child in her while others have gone straight to adolescence.
She has little to no social skills and low self esteem she still strives to become one of the cool kids .
By doing this she tends to find herself always caring about what other people think of her. She s felt
peer pressured to wear makeup, drink alcohol, sneak out and even shave her

Drug Dealer Changes His Life by Trading Potential Prison Term for a Life Filled with Success
Without a doubt, Julian Young is an inspiration to many. As a teen, Young partied all the time and
worked as a drug dealer. Facing a 15 year prison term, Young realized that his life was in shambles.
He called his father, who encouraged him to come home. Young made his transformation from a drug
dealer to a model citizen with guidance from a mentor. His mentor made him realize that even though
he was a drug dealer, he was also an entrepreneur. He could use that experience to build his own

Analysis of Starbucks Supply Chain
Abstract
Seattle based coffee chain founded in 1971, with over 21,000 stores world wide, and 12,218 locations
in the United States.
This report will analyze and discuss the Manufacturing process that begins with procuring raw
material (i.e. coffee beans), transporting the raw material to roasting plants, and manufacturing and
packaging the end product for consumption by the retail stores.
Starbucks has to closely monitor and follow the guidelines of the Drug Administration (FDA), the
Department of Agriculture and Occupation Safety and Health Act (OSHA) in order to own, operate,
and open new stores.
In 2008, Starbucks identified that the majority of its cost and expenses rooted from the distribution of
supplies. They have introduced the 3PLs (Third Party Logistics) reducing and eliminated third party
venders without creating defects in the short and long run.
CEO Howard Schultz and his management team sought out to simplify the complex process that had
been plaguing their supply chain and creating massive expenses. To accomplish this, they

Superstition in Huck Finn Essay
Superstitious Times
Some say that superstition is an impractical way of looking at life but the characters in Mark Twain s,
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn beg to differ. Examples of superstition are abundant throughout
the novel. Allowing characters in a novel to have superstitions makes their lives more realistic and the
reading more enjoyable. Huck and Jim s superstitions cause them grief, help them get through, and
sometimes get them into trouble in their lengthy runaway journey. Although both of these characters
tend to be quite rational, they quickly become irrational when anything remotely superstitious happens
to them. Superstition plays a dual role: it shows that Huck and Jim are child like in spite of their

He listened closely me yow! me yow! (6), this was, sure enough Tom s call to him. Huck jumps down
to meet his friend. This superstition gives the reader a first insight to Huck. The superstition is
somewhat childish and belief in the reality of witches shows that Huck has a long way to go before
maturation.
In the fourth chapter Huck sees Pap s footprints in the snow. So Huck goes to Jim to ask him why Pap
is there. Jim gets a hair ball that is the size of a fist that he took from an ox s stomach. Jim asks the
hair ball; Why is Pap here? But the hair ball won t answer. Jim says it needs money, so Huck gives Jim
a counterfeit quarter. The counterfeit quarter allows the reader to ponder the thought that Jim and
Huck are superstitious, yet they still cheat the superstition like it doesn t exist. Almost as if being
superstitious is such a normal attribute that Huck and Jim don t know they re superstitious. Jim puts
the quarter under the hair ball. The hair ball talks to Jim and Jim repeats it back to Huck. quot;Yo ole

Duckweed Experiment
What is duckweed? The was the first question that went through my mind when this lab was assigned.
This resulted in pre lab research. The first thing I learned was that duckweed, is a tiny aquatic
flowering plant that floats in large quantities on still water, often forming an apparently continuous
green layer on the surface. When my group was tasked with choosing our manipulative factor we
decided on temperature manipulation. Based on the basic information we all had on duckweed due to
our pre lab questions, my group knew that duckweed is capable of growing in very harsh conditions in
regards to pH, temperature, and light. Knowing this came to our advantage when we developed our
hypothesis. We hypothesized that while under the different temperature conditions of an incubator, a
fridge, and room temperature, the sample of frongs under grown under the incubator would remain
healthy throughout the process while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Were there any sources of error that could have contributed to false data in our experiment? The fast
decline of the room temperature, was a red flag. Why would a sample that appeared to be healthy and
thriving suddenly die within the span of 7 days? The possible sources of error I can predict regarding
that part of the experiment would be the fluctuations in light based on its location in the room and
amount of water that was filled on day 12 as possibly someone in the group forgot to refill the sample
after noticing evaporation. The fluctuating temperature changes inside the room as well as the weather
conditions and temperature conditions outside is also a possible source of error regarding the sample. I
cannot identify any sources of error in regards to the fridge and incubator samples as their results
could be backed up by our pre lab research on duckweed growth in hot and cold

Mesovortex Synthesis
Potential connections exist between total lightning and mesovortex formation, which is the parent
circulation from which QLCS tornadoes are born. Many studies have found that mesovortexgenesis is
initiated at low levels by tilting, in downdrafts, of crosswise baroclinic horizontal vorticity (Trapp and
Weisman 2003 Part II, Wheatley and Trapp 2008, Atkins and St. Laurent 2009 Part II). Additional
studies have found that strong low level updraft is critical in converging and amplifying vertical
vorticity associated with the mesovortex (Schenkman et al. 2012, Atkins and St. Laurent 2009). Trapp
and Weisman (2003 Part I) also found that the amount of wind shear had large implications on
mesovortexgenesis. As wind shear increased in both magnitude and ... Show more content on

The total lightning information can give important insight to the updraft and downdraft processes
within the QLCS. The region with the largest lightning flash rates is related to a stronger mid level
updraft, and a lightning jump (or multiple lightning jumps) occur in response to a rapid intensification
of updraft strength. This mid level updraft can assist in mesovortexgenesis in two ways. First, if a low
level mesovortex is present in the presence of strong vertical wind shear, this strong mid level updraft
could potentially act to stretch the vertical vorticity, thereby strengthening the mesovortex. Secondly,
this strong mid level updraft can ultimately produce more and larger precipitation, which in turn

Impact Of Tourism On The Caribbean
This paper explores a great number of academic research journals and databases on the impact that the
tourism industry has on the countries in the Caribbean. Tourism impacts the Caribbean in three
different sections. Tourism has a social impact that allows for increases in revenue, jobs, and service
for the people living there. Tourism s cultural impact allows the history and heritage of the Caribbean
to be acknowledged and practiced not only here but around the world as tourists come and go.
Tourism s environmental impact effects the natural and geographical diversity that can only be found
in these countries. Although tourism brings about many advantages in all three categories, there are
still negatives attributes that appear from tourism that must be handled properly to maintain a
successful industry. This paper examines 12 different research journals that suggest all of the positives
and negatives of tourism in the Caribbean and how they can effect not only the tourism industry but
the area in which they are practiced.
Tourism Has a social, cultural, and environmental impact on the Caribbean s Research Tourism plays a
major role on the infrastructure of the Caribbean countries. Without tourism, the Caribbean s would

are social, cultural and environmental. Tourism impacts the Caribbean socially by proving jobs and

The Power of Imagination Dreams or fantasies are windows to new and exciting worlds. The usage of
the imagination can make reality or the world a more pleasing place to live in. However when dreams
are interpreted as goals, it can make our view of the world very narrow and limited. The narrative, The
World and Other Place by Jeannette Winterson involves a story of a pilot who let his fantasies guide
him towards reaching his goal. His imagination caused a positive impact in his life which was
achieving his dream. He attained his dreams because of his goal driven mindset, in which the focus is
set on one goal. On Habit by Alain de Botton is about the author s views on the travelling and

Why? On the other side of the door is a mirror, and I will have to see myself. I m not afraid of what I
am. I m afraid I will see what I am not (Winterson 288). The dress designer is implying that she is
fearful when she admits that she is running away from the bolted door. Opening the door means letting
go of a restricted, goal driven mindset the dress designer developed in order to view life in a new
perspective. It also means letting go of her fantasies. However, the dress designer is fearful of facing
reality because her dreams are invoking the fear. Her dreams are what she uses to define herself. She
does not want to let go of her dreams because accepting her reality or her flaws will strip her of her
pride. Therefore this will make her feel fearful of expanding her horizons. Because of the dress
designer s fear of letting go of her dream, she is not open to trying out new things. She is not open to
trying a new career path, or doing other things than what she mentioned in the text such as partying.
Although De Botton mentions a destination and not a dream, De Botton and the dress designer s
points are very similar because they are both goals in which focus is put on and aspects that are
considered relevant to their lives. The dreams or goals that were held up so high are putting limitations
on both of their realities. The dress designer is shrinking her reality by simply

What factors contribute to and/or cause this problem?
Unprotected Sex
Having unprotected sex is one of the main contributor in STDs. Although using a condom doesn t
guarantee that you won t get STDs, condoms are the best way to avoid getting infected while still
having sex.
Multiple Sexual Partners
People with multiple partners tend to choose partners with multiple partners, so each individual you
are having sex with is most likely to have an infection with someone you don t even know. It s simple
math, the more partners you have sex with, the more you will be exposed to an STD.
Having STDs
Having one STD frequently makes you more susceptible to infection by other STDs. Skin that is
irritated, inflamed, or blistered is easier for another pathogen to infect. Having an STD is also an
indirect reflection of your risk of new infection. Since you were exposed once already, it suggests that
other factors in your lifestyle may be putting you at risk.
Trading Sex for Money / Drugs
People who trade sex for money or drugs may not be sufficiently empowered to negotiate that sex be
safer sex. Furthermore, partners acquired in this manner are far more likely to be infected with STDs
than people in the general population.
Abusing alcohol or using recreational drugs.
Illicit drug use can make decision making difficult. It make it easier for someone to pressure you into

this was that the post war southern economy was stagnant and fell into a slow and painful growth well

My Style Of Fashion
Style Fashion Dress communicates to everyone differently but to me it was always ambiguous and it
will continue to be ambiguous because no two people will perceive an object the same exact way. My
Style Fashion Dress has changed over the years by my ability to get a hold of certain pieces without
my parents permission. Being a transnational fashion subject relates to each of us because whether we
realize it or not at least five pieces of clothing in your closet is made in a different country. Whether it
is the fabric from a different country or a design from another culture each of our Style Fashion Dress
is transnational. Intersectionality: Subject positions are embedded in cultural discourses over which
individuals may have little control (Kaiser, 2012, p. 28). Some examples of subject positions, gender,
nation, sexuality, race ethnicity, age, place, class (Kaiser, 2012, p.30). The subject positions that I
relate to most is the fact that I am a young woman who is a feminist.
My style has changed within the past five years as I used to sneak clothing around in order for me to
dress the way I wanted to where now I freely express my style how I want and whenever I want. I
snuck clothing in my backpack because I grew up in a strict Mexican household where I could never
wear what I truly wanted to because my father wouldn t allow it and those were the rules no questions

Persuasive Essay On The Flag
Flags are used by countries for a few reasons beyond just having something to fly in the air.
A country will spend many hours and a lot of money on their flag design because that is their
way of portraying themselves to the rest of the world. Many Americans own and display them
outside their homes, offices, and schools. The flag was there during the Revolutionary War days
and remained there after the attacks of 9/11. Flags can be unifying to a country, and many times
are. The flag makes all American citizens feel like part of a team. Our American flag is a symbol
of pride and freedom for all. The Star Spangled Banner, the national anthem, proclaims, And
the rocket s red glare / the bombs bursting in air / gave proof through the night / that our flag was
still there. Our flag flying through the smoke of warfare gave hope to all Americans, and ever
since the flag has been a symbol of that hope and unity. The flag started as a banner to celebrate
America s freedom and now stands as an icon of world diplomacy. (Online Stores, page 1). As
said before, our flag is greatly tied to freedom. Freedom is a condition in which people have the
opportunity to speak, act, and pursue happiness without unnecessary external restrictions.
Freedom is important because it leads to enhanced expressions of creativity, original thought,
increased productivity, and an overall high quality of life. The idea of freedom is complex; it
must be redefined and defended anew

Student Information System
CHAPTER I
RESEARCH PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION Notably, student information system or SIS incurs such application software
designed for educational establishments to manage student data. Student information systems provide
capabilities for entering student test and other assessment scores, building student schedules, tracking
student attendance as well as managing many other student related data needs within the institution
university. Thus, many of these systems applied in the Philippines can be scaled to different levels of
activity and can be configured by their home institutions to meet local needs. Moreover, before
universities have created their own bespoke student record systems, but with growing complexity ...

A Common Problem Today For Adolescent Christians
A common problem today for adolescent Christians is the lack of intimacy with God, and not fully
experiencing Christ in their lives. The solution to this problem can be found in the spiritual
disciplines. Spiritual disciplines are practices that aid in transforming believers into the image of
Christ, and help them to develop a more intimate relationship with Christ. They help to bring a
Christian into the presence of God, and to bring them a portion of heaven. According to Isaac
Ambrose, an English Puritan minister from the seventeenth century, spiritual disciplines are the
vehicles to God. He said: ...the saints look upon duties (the Word, Sacraments, Prayers, etc.) as bridges
to give them a passage to God, as boats to carry them into the bosom of Christ, as means to bring them
into more intimate communion with their heavenly Father, and therefore are they so much taken with
them (Schwanda 1). Ambrose argued that through spiritual disciplines, one could experience an
intimate relationship with God. The spiritual disciplines are broken into three categories, inward,
outward, and corporate. From these three categories, the three main focuses are meditation, service,
and worship. Through the application of these three spiritual disciplines, the main goal is to enter a
deeper, more intimate relation with Christ and to be shaped into the image of Christ. The first spiritual
discipline is meditation. According to WordNet, meditation is the continuous and profound

Bogdanov And Goold Analysis
Thou wouldst be great, art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it. (Shakespeare
23) In their adaptations of William Shakespeare s play Macbeth, directors Michael Bogdanov and
Rupert Goold depict the possible detrimental effects of ambition and the subsequent guilt that follows
once the task is carried out.
Both Bogdanov and Goold have projected their films into a time period well beyond Shakespeare s
age of the late 1600 s. The 1998 film appears to be set in a post apocalyptic environment reminiscent
of the 90 s, while the 2010 film takes place during World War II.
The two films portray Lady Macbeth as the deuteragonist and antagonist who assists Macbeth in his
brutal quest to become king. As Lady Macbeth persuades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pivotal factor that indicates the strong impact a film has on a viewer stems from the extent of
which an individual feels a connection towards a character. The Lady Macbeth of Goold s
interpretation undergoes a large yet gradual transition from highly motivated to highly depressed. In
contrast, viewers of Bogdanov s film observe that Lady Macbeth experiences her development quite
rapidly. Ultimately, I feel more pity for Goold s version of Lady Macbeth. If she had not ended her
life, perhaps she would no longer be ashamed to wear a heart so white (35) after realizing how
negatively her actions affect not only her, but Macbeth himself. Goold s film acts as the very painting
(52) of one s emotional evolution, one that serves as a picturesque illustration to admire again and

Conversion Of Sto Analysis
Conversion of St. Paul (or The Road to Damascus ) was painted by Italian Baroque artist
Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio for the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome. It tells the
story of St. Paul conversion. As we know from the bible, and St. Paul s letters, Saul (St. Paul) was on
his way to Damascus to prosecute Christians when he was blinded by light/ spirit from heaven. He fell
to the ground, and the spirit asked him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? (Acts 9: 1 6).
Conversion of St. Paul took place in noon and on the desert so it must have been really bright and
sunny, but on Caravaggio s painting we see different scene. Background is dark, as if the event took
place at night. Caravaggio uses chiaroscuro to emphasize St. Paul ecstasy. The servant and the horse
are plunged in darkness. The artist wanted to get the feeling of contrast between light from the sky and
ordinary background, which is dark. Caravaggio gave up painting God and angels instead he painted
presence of God in divine light. There is a dramatic contrast between supernatural light and ordinary
darkness. Paul young, beautiful and ecstatic persona is countered with very realistic image of a servant
and a horse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reflection Paper On Plane Alone
Ugh! No! that was my first reaction when my mom told me that I had to ride a plane alone. 13 hours!
How am I supposed to endure that long time, by myself? Is she seriously expecting me to be fine
after? I thought it was ridiculous and impossible. However, from the deep corner of my mind,
something ensured me that I m going to be fine. Rachel, you will be going to have a free time that no
one will disturb it, that voice was even luring me! So, of course, I fell into that lure.
Thanks to God, my seat was the aisle, and few women, who looked like a tourists, sat next to me.
They looked nice, so I was relieved. Time to set up my seat , I thought. My routine for making my seat
was like this: First, I put my bag under the front seat, taking out my phone and the charger. Then I
open the blanket that was given from the plane, put the small pillow on my back, and plug in my
earbud. Lastly, I turn on the monitor and pick some songs that I will listen throughout the flight. These
make the best seat for the flight; trust me, I know it well.
After the take off, soon the flight attendants came with the foods. Oh yes, the best part of the flight!
The combination of eating and listening music at the same time is always fantastic; those two are my
favorite things to do. Although the quality of the foods was not as good as the foods I usually eat, it
was still delicious.
I got really bored after I eat, so I decided to watch the Beauty and the Beast one more time. Such a

El Greco s Influence On American Culture
The world of art has been influenced by Spanish Artists throughout the years. Art is a creative skill

Theme Of Family Dysfunction In King Lear
Family Dysfunctions in King Lear
No two snowflakes are alike. Similarly, every family s relationship is unique. William Shakespeare s,
King Lear, focuses on the similarities between the two families involved in the plot and subplot. The
plot consists of King Lear, who is fooled into believing that his eldest daughters, Goneril and Regan,
love him; however, he soon realizes the opposite as Goneril and Regan betray him in hopes of gaining
power. Fortunately, Cordelia truly loves her father and stays loyal to him, despite Lear s public
rejection of her. The subplot consists of Gloucester and his two sons Edgar and Edmund. Edgar is
Gloucester s natural son, and Edmund is Gloucester s illegitimate son a bastard. Edmund yearns for
the inheritance Edgar will receive from Gloucester, so he incriminates Edgar by forging a letter stating
that Edgar wants to kill his father. In William Shakespeare s, King Lear, the subplot of Gloucester and
his sons parallels the plot of King Lear and his daughters in that children betray their fathers, the
siblings betray each other, but there are loyal children who contrast the betrayal.
Noticeably, in both the plot and the subplot, the fathers are betrayed by their own blood, emphasizing
the injustice experienced by Lear and Gloucester. In the main plot, Goneril and Regan scheme against
Lear in order to avoid the obligation of caring for him in his old age. When Lear visits Goneril in her
castle, she discloses to Oswald her scheme of getting Lear

1973 Arab Oil Embargo And Its Effect On The US
Part D: Analysis:
In 1973, Arab states and Israel were in the midst of war. In retaliation of the U.S. resupplying Israeli
military, Arab members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) initiated an
embargo against the United States and other countries that supported Israel. This embargo banned
petroleum exports to certain countries, introduced cuts in oil production, and had a drastic effect on
the U.S. economy (Oil Embargo, 1973 1974). It led to quadrupling oil prices and oil shortages that led
to a widespread crisis across the United States and other countries facing the embargo. The crisis
caused a global realization that the world seemed to be running out of oil and provided incentive to

relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran has been considered the most significant, lasting effect of the
Arab Oil Embargo. However, these changes were much less direct than those in the energy sector.
Even though the embargo led to the United States allying with Saudi Arabia when they had previously
been enemies, it can be argued that the embargo was not a direct cause of this shifting alliance (Myre).
Furthermore, the fact that the United States is now rivals with Iran is more the result of the overthrow
of the shah, who was effectively a puppet of the United States, than a consequence of the embargo
itself (Myre). While, the effects of these changing dynamics are still seen today and are undoubtedly
significant, the relationship between the embargo and the changing U.S. energy sector and policy is
much more visible and direct. What s more, the argument that the embargo most influenced U.S.
energy is backed with an abundance of evidence, while the evidence suggesting the changing
international relations resulted from the embargo is shaky and tentative at best. Due to this, it is
apparent that the claim that the embargo affected U.S. energy policy most significantly is the correct

Security needs to be addressed as a continued lifecycle to be effective. Daily, there are new attack
signatures being developed, viruses and worms being written, natural disasters occurring, changes in
the organization workplace taking place and new technologies evolving, these all effect the security
posture in the organization (King, 2002). This being said, it is important to evaluate firewall and router
rule sets more frequently. The possible threats against this policy include improperly configured
network infrastructure which leads to a domino effect that could start with malicious programming
which could end in data loss. Many of these threats may be unintentional as some users may not be
aware of the risks and how their processes and procedures open the door for such attacks. For this
reason alone, a more frequent evaluation is needed. This vulnerability could lead to data loss and the
exposure of trade secrets, client lists and product design. The exposure of such information for most
companies could mean a financial collapse as it no longer has the competitive edge that makes it the
industry leader. While the likelihood of this threat is very high, security risks to the network exist if
users do not follow the security policy. Security weaknesses emerge when there is no clear cut or
written security policy document. A security policy meets these goals:
i. To inform users, staff and managers of their obligatory requirements

Iva Toguri Aquino In The Hunt For The Tokyo Rose
A person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of
expediency: this is the definition of scapegoat. It is also how one might describe the role of Iva Toguri
Aquino in the hunt for the Tokyo Rose. Betrayed by not one but two countries she called home, Iva
Toguri Aquino was the seventh person in the history of the United States to be tried and convicted of
treason. D Aquino v. United States is the case involving a young American born and raised woman of
Japanese heritage, who was taken advantage of by the U.S. and Japanese government and a mythical
siren blamed for the discouragement of U.S. Troops during World War II. Iva Toguri was born on July
4th, 1916 in Los Angeles, California. She left the U.S.A. for Japan to further her study in medicine
and take care of her ill aunt not long after graduating from UCLA. Once healthy, Iva Toguri s aunt
turned her out on her own, claiming it was too expensive to feed her. Forced to find a job rather
quickly, she picked up a job as a local radio station broadcaster. While working that job, Toguri
married a Portuguese citizen, Felipe D Aquino and denied many offers by family and friends to
become a Japanese or Portuguese citizen. However, when she attempted to return to America, she was
told there was no proof of her citizenship and was required to stay in Japan. Shortly after, Toguri was
hand picked by the executive producer of Zero Hour , a radio station produced by the Japanese
government, to cover a segment broadcasted to the American Troops and their allies. Iva Toguri
broadcasted under the name of Orphan Ann or Orphan Annie but was swindled into signing a contract
labeling her as the Tokyo Rose some time post war when interviewed by journalists. Post war, it was
realized that Zero Hour was one of the Japanese s many forms of psychological warfare. This
epiphany started a hunt for the mythical siren, the Tokyo Rose. Many American speaking women were
recruited by Broadcasting Corporation of Japan( production company that worked hand in hand with
the Japanese government) to cover various demoralizing segments of Zero Hour and say things like

The Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model
The engineering component of the Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model predicts wind and rain
damage to a variety of modelled building configurations in an effort to model hurricane losses. The
program uses a Monte Carlo approach to probabilistically simulating damage to the exterior
components of the models, but currently assigns costs to the damaged components deterministically.
This implementation does not capture variations in component costs and building values. This paper
investigates replacing the deterministic costing with probabilistic relationships to more accurately
reflect the uncertainty of the vulnerability outputs. The results indicate that cost variations do not
significantly impact the variation of the vulnerability results. The conclusion of the paper presents
possible explanations for this and recommendations for further investigation.
The Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model (FPHLM) is a catastrophe model that predicts hurricane
related insured losses to residential infrastructure in the state of Florida. Currently, the model analyses
three different types of properties: personal residential buildings (single family buildings), commercial
residential low rise buildings (multi family buildings), and commercial residential mid/high rise
buildings (buildings in excess of 3 stories that house multiple families). The models consist of a
meteorological (hazard) component, an engineering (building vulnerability) component, and an
actuarial component.

Oz Character Analysis Of Oz
Dorothy lives in a place that many people would be loath to call home. The Kansas prairie is vast and
monochromatic, with dangerous cyclones and an absence of color and beauty. It turns the once pretty
and young Aunt Em into an old, dour woman before her time. Oz, by contrast, is stunningly gorgeous
and fantastical. It is peopled with strange folk, a marvelous emerald city, verdant fields of flowers and
miles of healthy farmland, deep forests, and adventures galore. Most of its inhabitants are cheerful,
helpful, and virtuous. It seems strange that Dorothy would want to leave this land for her home.
However, the importance of realizing the significance of one s roots prevails. Dorothy never questions
her return. She is from Kansas, her guardians are there, and she has duties to fulfill. She finds much to
love about Oz but knows it is not where she belongs. This is an understandable mindset for a child no
matter how fascinating or exotic a place, it is always more comforting to be in a familiar setting.
Baum understood his intended audience well.
Childhood
Although she is portrayed as a 16 year old in the film, Dorothy is most assuredly a child in the novel.
W.W. Denslow s charming illustrations reveal her to be a wide eyed, spirited little girl. Dorothy is the

The Soviet Union s Nuclear Arms Race
Within four years of the United States bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Soviet Union
successfully tested its first nuclear weapon. Ultimately, this test would begin the arms race between
the US and the USSR, which would come to be one of the largest sources of political tension between
the two countries throughout the Cold War. While lack of information and historical bias from an
American point of view suggests that the USSR created its nuclear industry solely to beat the west,

industry. Therefore, while the United States successes in nuclear technology may have expedited the

The investment in alternate energy that the USSR made, especially for a highly industrial country
whose economic development largely relied on the production of fossil fuels, is unparalleled. The
Soviet Union had two main, long term incentives for investing in nuclear energy: One, 80% of the
countries fossil resources were located in the eastern half of the country while 75% of the population
lived in the western half, and two, nuclear power is less damaging to the local environments than
conventional fossil power. Interestingly, the USSR actually led the world in the use of nuclear power
to generate electricity, creating the world s first nuclear power plant at Obninsk on June 27th, 1954.
The success and speed of the Soviet Union s reactor production shows both advantages and
disadvantages of the country s political system, as the country was able to allocate all resources to the
research of various power generation methods without the limits of waiting for individual company
investment; however, this often incurred high costs both with safety standards and economically.

As it was built on the unrealistic premise that nations would overlook their own interests in order to
look after other members, the League of Nations and Collective Security was destined to fail. Nations
were required to turn over their right to make decisions and foreign policies over to an international
body so as to establish internationalism. The requirements of the league are described by historian E.H
Carr as being, overly optimistic, hollow and without substance. The invasion of Abyssinia by
Mussolini was the embodiment of the failure of Collective Security. Upon hearing of Mussolini s
intent to invade the smaller country, Britain and France decided to refrain from intervening as they
hoped to make an ally of Italy and did not want Mussolini to break the Stresa Front and side with
Hitler. Of course Italy did side with Hitler and through their idleness, set a precedent of inaction that
encouraged Hitler and the axis powers to act. Similar examples of the failure of the League can also be

of Manchuria.

dysfunctional families, and overpowering coincides with psychological symptoms and characteristics.
Like a physical disease, the mental and emotional disease shows common symptoms, and with these
symptoms psychologists can diagnose and chart the severity of the disease. The most common
symptoms are rigid discussion which may be confused or chaotic, disagreements that offends the
members of family, a disagreeable environment, tight and unshared emotion, a lack of good humor
and the nature to laugh at one s self and disrespect for privacy. The pursuit for a better world ... Show

The book Clothing and Fashion: American Fashion from Head to Toe defines Hourglass figure as
follows, The hourglass shape was a feature of woman s dress for most of the 19th century. This shape
included the rounded breasts, a slender waist, and padding the hips (Blanco 161). After World War II
Christian Dior had created what was known as the New Look, the look was iconic for emphasising a
woman s hourglass shaped figure, later becoming a worldwide popular trend. Although, this wasn t the
first time this silhouette was popular, the hourglass shape can be traced back to mid 1800 s when
designer Charles Frederick Worth was in popular demand for his elegant gowns and dresses. Even
today s society focuses on this trend with famous designers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The silhouette has now become a new desired body type by some in aspiration to have the old
hollywood look, as well as seen a positive aspect of having curves . Through this style of silhouette is
used in modern day clothing, some people choose to wear vintage styled clothing that still give this
shape in today s time; for example, high waisted pants/shorts, high waisted skirts, as well as dresses
that have some sort of waistband or seam that tightens around the natural waistline, hence drawing
attention to the slimmer part of the body, the waist. Woman who take towards this trend are typically
comfortable/proud of their feminine figure, enjoy dressing in feminine attire, and enjoy having the
sensual appeal of a tighter garment that accentuates their small waist.. Economics of this time are
comfortable; the United States has slowly been climbing out of its recession, raising the pay of
minimum wage to $10 an hour, thus making it a comfortable time of living financially, for most. Many
celebrities enjoy wearing this style of garment during this time, some famous designers have helped
make it one of their trademarks. For example, fashion designer Zac Posen has been repeatedly
complimented for his attention to the female body and flattering hourglass shaped silhouette. One of
his most famous clients is the famous burlesque dancer, designer, and

Monologue From Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
You sighed as you saw the group leave, something inside you wanting them to stay longer. It was a
nice morning, and breakfast was coming to an end as noon was rolling in. You wiped off your apron
and walked over to the groups table, beginning to pick up. They didn t leave much, and you smiled at
their kindness. You glanced over and saw a napkin folded under one of the glasses, and you
instinctively picked it up to unfolded. Thank you for being such a wonderful person, we all appreciate
it, and we will come back soon! Frisk you read. You felt yourself start to tear up at the small writing.
Why are you so emotional? This is just another customer. You folded it back up and stuck it in your
apron, patting it after. You resumed your cleaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To your surprise, it is custard filled. You give an embarrassing moan as you chew. It s amazing, just as
you thought. You ate the whole thing within seconds after the first bite. You look around nervously
seeing if anyone just saw your pig out, and to your relief you noticed no one. You wiped off your
mouth with your sleeved arm and shove your hands in your pockets, trying to play it off anyway as if
someone really was there. The cold consumes your face again and you shiver into the fluff of your
hood. You have to admit, you hate the bitterness, but you adore winter. It s beautiful, magical and a
comforting cold most of the time. THIS cold is just nonsense to you. You notice a park leading straight
to Mt.Ebott that you haven t seen before. You always drove to work and never took any other route.
You can assume though, so you shrug, a walk in the park as a shortcut seems nice to you. You slowly
make your way across the street and onto the path. You take your time, moving at a slow pace and
watching every tree you pass. Sure, it s cold but it s still beautiful. The color is still in the trees,
deepened by the frost. You breathe out slowly, watching your breath come to life as you step on a stick
you didn t notice. You felt it crack under your foot, but you heard no sound. You blinked, pausing for a
second before continuing again. A few steps later you finally hear the crack of the stick, which made
you jump. You turned around

  • 2. Analysis Of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, is the number one cause of death among babies. It is unexplainable, and happens while the baby is sleeping. It is sometimes known as crib death or cot death. It is diagnosed after all of the causes of the baby s death, such as trauma, an infection, heart or lung infection, have been eliminated. In 2010, there was a recorded amount of about two thousand babies that died due to SIDS. Four years later, in 2014, the amount lowered to one thousand five hundred. • 3. Punishment In The Middle Ages Essay The fall of the Roman Empire marked the Middle Ages from 500ce to 1500ce which brought with it new ideas and systems. As medieval society developed, changes and consistencies occurred in law and order. In particular, continuity and change occurred in punishments, trial procedures, and court systems. Punishments in the Middle Ages were harsh and horrific, with change occurring as heads of state and laws changed. In the Middle Ages, punishments were used as a deterrent to gain peasants obedience. Types of punishments included torture, mutilation, and public humiliation. When the Normans invaded England in the 11th century, (Norman Conquest of England, 2017) many changes were made to punishments. William the Conqueror used the death penalty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Early Middle Ages, only Trial by Ordeal was used. This trial was based on the belief that God would save the Innocent and punish the guilty and had horrific methods, such as placing an arm in boiling water or holding an iron bar. (Tol Zagora 2014, p. 63) With the Norman Conquest in 1066, William the Conqueror introduced trial by combat (Rickards, 2012). Trial by combat was used for the nobles, where the accused would fight the accuser. William the Conqueror believed that God would protect the Innocent when the parties fought. The guilty would ve then be punished severely (Easton Saldais 2011, pp. 330, 331). With the creation of the Magna Carta in 1215 (Trueman, 2016) there were many changes to the Trial Procedures. The Magna Carta abolished Trial by Ordeal and replaced it with Trial by Jury, which involved a jury hearing a case and deciding the guilt or innocence of the accused. Many people didn t trust trial by jury, which led to a law being created in 1275 stating that if a criminal didn t choose trial by jury then they were tortured (Addison, et al. 2011). Having data does not make you powerful but what you do with it makes all the difference. Companies like Amazon, eBay and Netflix are already using data to predict user behavior and utilizing that to increase their revenue. But processing data in real time is not an easy task. The data today has great volume, is veracious in nature and is increasing at an enormous rate and hence has been given the term Big Data. There is a constant research going on to find a solution to process such huge amount of data in real time. The Hadoop based batch processing is a powerful tool for analyzing data offline. But it fails to process anything in real time. Highly sensitive situations like crediting card fraud detection, networking fault prediction; threat detection and so on cannot be postponed for an offline analysis. Situations like these need instant results because if something is not done to mitigate a potential threat in real time, the damage may be catastrophic. The goal of this project is to come up with a scalable and efficient solution which can process heterogeneous data in the most simplified design possible in real time. Existing solutions are either not scalable or approach one kind of data and in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the exploration of the technology can use for several wonderful purposes, it is also a double edged sword. Today, by searching word on google, a 6 year old kid can easily access a legal pornography website without any troubles. This caused the controversial argument that whether or not the Internet should be censored for violent and sexual content? Even though the violent and sexual content on the Internet can bring some benefits for the adults, it should have a limit access to protect minors from the disadvantages of human sexual corruption, sexual harassment, and especially child pornography. When my group was tasked with choosing our manipulative factor we decided on temperature manipulation. Based on the basic information we all had on duckweed due to our pre lab questions, my group knew that duckweed is capable of growing in very harsh conditions in regards to pH, temperature, and light. • 16. Mesovortex Synthesis Potential connections exist between total lightning and mesovortex formation, which is the parent circulation from which QLCS tornadoes are born. Many studies have found that mesovortexgenesis is initiated at low levels by tilting, in downdrafts, of crosswise baroclinic horizontal vorticity (Trapp and Weisman 2003 Part II, Wheatley and Trapp 2008, Atkins and St. Laurent 2009 Part II). Additional studies have found that strong low level updraft is critical in converging and amplifying vertical vorticity associated with the mesovortex (Schenkman et al. 2012, Atkins and St. Laurent 2009). The region with the largest lightning flash rates is related to a stronger mid level updraft, and a lightning jump (or multiple lightning jumps) occur in response to a rapid intensification of updraft strength. This mid level updraft can assist in mesovortexgenesis in two ways. First, if a low level mesovortex is present in the presence of strong vertical wind shear, this strong mid level updraft could potentially act to stretch the vertical vorticity, thereby strengthening the mesovortex. Secondly, this strong mid level updraft can ultimately produce more and larger precipitation, which in turn contributes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A country will spend many hours and a lot of money on their flag design because that is their way of portraying themselves to the rest of the world. Many Americans own and display them outside their homes, offices, and schools. The flag was there during the Revolutionary War days and remained there after the attacks of 9/11. Flags can be unifying to a country, and many times are. The flag makes all American citizens feel like part of a team. Our American flag is a symbol of pride and freedom for all. • 26. A Common Problem Today For Adolescent Christians A common problem today for adolescent Christians is the lack of intimacy with God, and not fully experiencing Christ in their lives. The solution to this problem can be found in the spiritual disciplines. Spiritual disciplines are practices that aid in transforming believers into the image of Christ, and help them to develop a more intimate relationship with Christ. They help to bring a Christian into the presence of God, and to bring them a portion of heaven. According to Isaac Ambrose, an English Puritan minister from the seventeenth century, spiritual disciplines are the vehicles to God. He said: ...the saints look upon duties (the Word, Sacraments, Prayers, etc.) as bridges to give them a passage to God, as boats to carry them into the bosom of Christ, as means to bring them into more intimate communion with their heavenly Father, and therefore are they so much taken with them (Schwanda 1). Ambrose argued that through spiritual disciplines, one could experience an intimate relationship with God. The spiritual disciplines are broken into three categories, inward, outward, and corporate. From these three categories, the three main focuses are meditation, service, and worship. Through the application of these three spiritual disciplines, the main goal is to enter a deeper, more intimate relation with Christ and to be shaped into the image of Christ. Conversion Of Sto Analysis Conversion of St. Paul (or The Road to Damascus ) was painted by Italian Baroque artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio for the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome. It tells the story of St. Paul conversion. As we know from the bible, and St. Paul s letters, Saul (St. Paul) was on his way to Damascus to prosecute Christians when he was blinded by light/ spirit from heaven. He fell to the ground, and the spirit asked him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? (Acts 9: 1 6). Conversion of St. Paul took place in noon and on the desert so it must have been really bright and sunny, but on Caravaggio s painting we see different scene. Background is dark, as if the event took place at night. Caravaggio uses chiaroscuro to emphasize St. Paul ecstasy. The servant and the horse are plunged in darkness. The artist wanted to get the feeling of contrast between light from the sky and ordinary background, which is dark. Caravaggio gave up painting God and angels instead he painted presence of God in divine light. There is a dramatic contrast between supernatural light and ordinary darkness. Paul young, beautiful and ecstatic persona is countered with very realistic image of a servant and a horse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is she seriously expecting me to be fine after? I thought it was ridiculous and impossible. However, from the deep corner of my mind, something ensured me that I m going to be fine. Rachel, you will be going to have a free time that no one will disturb it, that voice was even luring me! So, of course, I fell into that lure. Thanks to God, my seat was the aisle, and few women, who looked like a tourists, sat next to me. They looked nice, so I was relieved. Time to set up my seat , I thought. My routine for making my seat was like this: First, I put my bag under the front seat, taking out my phone and the charger. Then I open the blanket that was given from the plane, put the small pillow on my back, and plug in my earbud. Lastly, I turn on the monitor and pick some songs that I will listen throughout the flight. These make the best seat for the flight; trust me, I know it well. After the take off, soon the flight attendants came with the foods. Oh yes, the best part of the flight! The combination of eating and listening music at the same time is always fantastic; those two are my favorite things to do. Although the quality of the foods was not as good as the foods I usually eat, it was still delicious. I got really bored after I eat, so I decided to watch the Beauty and the Beast one more time. • 31. Theme Of Family Dysfunction In King Lear Family Dysfunctions in King Lear No two snowflakes are alike. Similarly, every family s relationship is unique. William Shakespeare s, King Lear, focuses on the similarities between the two families involved in the plot and subplot. The plot consists of King Lear, who is fooled into believing that his eldest daughters, Goneril and Regan, love him; however, he soon realizes the opposite as Goneril and Regan betray him in hopes of gaining power. Fortunately, Cordelia truly loves her father and stays loyal to him, despite Lear s public rejection of her. The subplot consists of Gloucester and his two sons Edgar and Edmund. Edgar is Gloucester s natural son, and Edmund is Gloucester s illegitimate son a bastard. Edmund yearns for the inheritance Edgar will receive from Gloucester, so he incriminates Edgar by forging a letter stating that Edgar wants to kill his father. In William Shakespeare s, King Lear, the subplot of Gloucester and his sons parallels the plot of King Lear and his daughters in that children betray their fathers, the siblings betray each other, but there are loyal children who contrast the betrayal. Noticeably, in both the plot and the subplot, the fathers are betrayed by their own blood, emphasizing the injustice experienced by Lear and Gloucester. In retaliation of the U.S. resupplying Israeli military, Arab members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) initiated an embargo against the United States and other countries that supported Israel. This embargo banned petroleum exports to certain countries, introduced cuts in oil production, and had a drastic effect on the U.S. economy (Oil Embargo, 1973 1974). It led to quadrupling oil prices and oil shortages that led to a widespread crisis across the United States and other countries facing the embargo. However, these changes were much less direct than those in the energy sector. Even though the embargo led to the United States allying with Saudi Arabia when they had previously been enemies, it can be argued that the embargo was not a direct cause of this shifting alliance (Myre). Furthermore, the fact that the United States is now rivals with Iran is more the result of the overthrow of the shah, who was effectively a puppet of the United States, than a consequence of the embargo itself (Myre). While, the effects of these changing dynamics are still seen today and are undoubtedly significant, the relationship between the embargo and the changing U.S. energy sector and policy is much more visible and direct. What s more, the argument that the embargo most influenced U.S. energy is backed with an abundance of evidence, while the evidence suggesting the changing international relations resulted from the embargo is shaky and tentative at best. Daily, there are new attack signatures being developed, viruses and worms being written, natural disasters occurring, changes in the organization workplace taking place and new technologies evolving, these all effect the security posture in the organization (King, 2002). This being said, it is important to evaluate firewall and router rule sets more frequently. The possible threats against this policy include improperly configured network infrastructure which leads to a domino effect that could start with malicious programming which could end in data loss. Many of these threats may be unintentional as some users may not be aware of the risks and how their processes and procedures open the door for such attacks. For this reason alone, a more frequent evaluation is needed. This vulnerability could lead to data loss and the exposure of trade secrets, client lists and product design. The exposure of such information for most companies could mean a financial collapse as it no longer has the competitive edge that makes it the industry leader. Betrayed by not one but two countries she called home, Iva Toguri Aquino was the seventh person in the history of the United States to be tried and convicted of treason. D Aquino v. United States is the case involving a young American born and raised woman of Japanese heritage, who was taken advantage of by the U.S. and Japanese government and a mythical siren blamed for the discouragement of U.S. Troops during World War II. Iva Toguri was born on July 4th, 1916 in Los Angeles, California. She left the U.S.A. for Japan to further her study in medicine and take care of her ill aunt not long after graduating from UCLA. Once healthy, Iva Toguri s aunt turned her out on her own, claiming it was too expensive to feed her. Forced to find a job rather quickly, she picked up a job as a local radio station broadcaster. While working that job, Toguri married a Portuguese citizen, Felipe D Aquino and denied many offers by family and friends to become a Japanese or Portuguese citizen. However, when she attempted to return to America, she was told there was no proof of her citizenship and was required to stay in Japan. Shortly after, Toguri was hand picked by the executive producer of Zero Hour , a radio station produced by the Japanese government, to cover a segment broadcasted to the American Troops and their allies. Iva Toguri broadcasted under the name of Orphan Ann or Orphan Annie but was swindled into signing a contract labeling her as the Tokyo Rose some time post war when interviewed by journalists. Post war, it was realized that Zero Hour was one of the Japanese s many forms of psychological warfare. This epiphany started a hunt for the mythical siren, the Tokyo Rose. Many American speaking women were recruited by Broadcasting Corporation of Japan( production company that worked hand in hand with the Japanese government) to cover various demoralizing segments of Zero Hour and say things like Joe Brown was out with Sally Smith. The Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model The engineering component of the Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model predicts wind and rain damage to a variety of modelled building configurations in an effort to model hurricane losses. The program uses a Monte Carlo approach to probabilistically simulating damage to the exterior components of the models, but currently assigns costs to the damaged components deterministically. This implementation does not capture variations in component costs and building values. This paper investigates replacing the deterministic costing with probabilistic relationships to more accurately reflect the uncertainty of the vulnerability outputs. The results indicate that cost variations do not significantly impact the variation of the vulnerability results. The conclusion of the paper presents possible explanations for this and recommendations for further investigation. The Kansas prairie is vast and monochromatic, with dangerous cyclones and an absence of color and beauty. It turns the once pretty and young Aunt Em into an old, dour woman before her time. Oz, by contrast, is stunningly gorgeous and fantastical. It is peopled with strange folk, a marvelous emerald city, verdant fields of flowers and miles of healthy farmland, deep forests, and adventures galore. Most of its inhabitants are cheerful, helpful, and virtuous. It seems strange that Dorothy would want to leave this land for her home. However, the importance of realizing the significance of one s roots prevails. Dorothy never questions her return. She is from Kansas, her guardians are there, and she has duties to fulfill. She finds much to love about Oz but knows it is not where she belongs. This is an understandable mindset for a child no matter how fascinating or exotic a place, it is always more comforting to be in a familiar setting. Baum understood his intended audience well. Childhood Although she is portrayed as a 16 year old in the film, Dorothy is most assuredly a child in the novel. W.W. Denslow s charming illustrations reveal her to be a wide eyed, spirited little girl. Dorothy is the quintessential child heroine, for she is unassuming, open minded, simple, and frank. Interestingly, the USSR actually led the world in the use of nuclear power to generate electricity, creating the world s first nuclear power plant at Obninsk on June 27th, 1954. The success and speed of the Soviet Union s reactor production shows both advantages and disadvantages of the country s political system, as the country was able to allocate all resources to the research of various power generation methods without the limits of waiting for individual company investment; however, this often incurred high costs both with safety standards and economically. The invasion of Abyssinia by Mussolini was the embodiment of the failure of Collective Security. Upon hearing of Mussolini s intent to invade the smaller country, Britain and France decided to refrain from intervening as they hoped to make an ally of Italy and did not want Mussolini to break the Stresa Front and side with Hitler.
