Wystan Hugh Auden Research Paper
The English American poet, Wystan Hugh Auden, better known as W. H. Auden, was known for his
ability to craft poems in different styles centering his work on different moral, social, and political
issues. W.H. Auden is recognized for having some of the most renowned poetry of the 20th century
due to his ability to use ancient moral issues, and relate them to current events of the time. Even
though Auden had a talent for using his personal experiences to create poetry of love and suffering,
some of his most powerful poems are written upon the immortality of war. Focusing on totalitarian
dictators, Auden created two of his most moving poems, September 1, 1939 and The Shield of
Achilles . Auden uses his poetry to express the ways bureaucratic dictatorship is used to control
citizens, leading dictators to unleash war upon the world. Due to his knowledge of the potential
destructive tendencies of dictators, Auden uses his poetry to convey the message that the power of
enduring human spirit has the ability to counteract the harmful effects of dictatorship if civilians
suppress the power of the tyrant. Wystan Hugh Auden was born on February 21, 1907, in York,
England. Auden was raised in a strict and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Psychological Perspective Analysis
When considering the different common psychological perspectives that are available, it can become
difficult to discern which one best accounts for a particular psychological belief. That being said, the
author leans towards the opinion that the behavioral perspective is the psychological perspective
which best accounts for the accepted connection between video games and aggressive behavior. This
perspective is founded on behaviorism, but it also incorporates the social cognitive theory. This
perspective places observable behavior and the importance of learning as the key tenets. It is based off
of the belief that an individual s behavior is a product of the rewards and punishments that they have
received as the results of their actions. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea that the consequences of our actions, the rewards and punishments, can be used to mold us is
one that occurs repeatedly throughout both the Old and the New Testaments. In addition, intentional
discipline for the purpose of character building, whether imposed by God or by man, is repeatedly
cited as a useful training tool. Hebrews 12:11 states that No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but
painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been
trained by it (New International Version). This verse and others of similar content remind readers that
people really do learn from the unpleasant experiences which might result from their actions. It is
when psychologists take this perspective too far that it becomes inconsistent with biblical principles.
Although discipline and rewards may help to train individuals in the ways of right and wrong, they do
not ultimately determine the individual s behavior. Christians are called to follow what is right
regardless of how much the people around them encourage ungodly behavior whether through positive
reinforcement, punishments, or

Ways of Reading and Jane Tompkins Essay
Ways of Reading and Jane Tompkins
In the book, Ways of Reading, the authors Bartholomae and Petrosky outline what they describe as a
strong reader . They characterize the attributes that collectively contribute to this title and then talk
about the relations between a strong reader and a strong writer. The perspectives that Bartholomae and
Petrosky discuss on ideas and textual analysis are very interesting and in point of fact remind me of
the thought process of which I use when analyzing a reading.
Strong readers often read critically, weighing, for example, an author claims and interpretations
against evidence evidence provided by the author in the text, evidence drawn from other sources, or
the evidence that is assumed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her essay quickly turns into an analysis of the bias facts issued by authors and it s effect on the final
product. By the time Tompkins s has to conclude her essay, the essay has progressed into something
that has nothing to do with Native American s relations; instead the initial subject has become a
catalyst for her conclusion.
I didn t know what the facts were. All I had, or could have, was a series of different perspectives, and
so nothing that would count as an authoritative source on which moral judgments could be based. But,
as I have just show, I did judge, and that is because, as I now think, I did have some facts. (p.686)
As shown in the passage above, the argument that Tompkins s is having with herself is generalized.
The story behind this quote could be anything, Tompkins has utilized a story about Indians as it helped
her structure her argument a little more efficiently. Also, reading the passage above, we see that Jane
Tompkins has contradicted herself, this is another technique she uses to exemplify her idea, and she
will clarify this contradiction later in the conclusion.
The awareness of the interests motivating each version cast suspicion over everything, in retrospect,
and I ended by claiming that there was nothing I could know. This, I now see, was never really the
case. But how did it happen #8230;Why did I conclude that none of the accounts was accurate because
they were all produced from some particular angle of vision? (p.687)

Biodiversity Hotspot of the Mountains of Central Asia
Biodiversity Hotspot of the Mountains of Central Asia
Central Asia is associated with seven countries: Western China, Southern Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan,
Kyrgyzstan, northeastern Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan. Central Asia has many sub
regions, a wide range of altitude belts, and surrounded by some world s highest mountain ranges, such
as the Tien Shan and the Pamir, the latter is known as the roof of the world . The mountains of Central
Asia have a high level of biological diversity due to its ecosystems, populations, and species because
of its unique geographical locations. The mountains play the role of the origins for many varieties of
domesticated plants and animals (Yessekin, 2005). There are around 5,500 plant species, of which 27
percent are endemic, 143 mammal species including 6 endemic species, 489 bird species with no
endemic species, and 27 freshwater fishes including 5 endemic species. The climate of the Central
Asia is generally arid, but there are still wide ranges that include glaciers, semi desert, steppe, and
desert climates. The majority of precipitation in these areas is supplied by subtropical winds and
storms from the Mediterranean Sea that give precipitation mainly in winter and spring. It varies from
1,500 millimeters on the west side to less than 100 millimeters in the Eastern Pamir, which is the
closest spot to the Taklamakan Desert (Conservation International, 2008). In addition, there has been a

Slaying the Dragon Essay
Slaying the Dragon: How Asian Women were Portrayed in Movies
Slaying the Dragon by Deborah Gee is a comprehensive look at media stereotypes of Asian and Asian
American women since the silent era. From the racist use of white actors to portray Asians in early
Hollywood films, through the success of Anna May Wong s sinister dragon lady, to Suzie Wong and
the 50s geisha girls, to the Asian American anchorwoman of today. The movie also shows how
stereotypes of exoticism and docility have affected the perception of Asian American women.
In many movies Asian women are sexually stereotyped as exotic, subservient, compliant, industrious,
and eager to please. If not that, Japanese women are shown to be inherently scheming, untrustworthy,

In the movie three Asian American women tell their story bout their lives in China and American life.
Nowhere in the movie are Asian American women presented as sexually subservient, but it presents
realistically the lives of these Asian women.
Historically in western drama, Asian women have been portrayed in a highly negative light. The Asian
women in films like Sayonara and The San Pebbles and musicals like Miss Saigon are seen as people
who are submissive and silent. A young American soldier is often involved in these plots, as most of
these plots are war dramas. The Asian girl falls in love with the American because she sees him as a
savior who will take her back home with him so she can fulfill what she thinks is the American Dream
, meaning that she can go from rags to riches. On the contrary, the American falls in love with the
Asian girl because he feels preference for submissiveness, which he finds more feminine and
attractive. As well, the American is embodied with the Christopher Columbus Syndrome , and feels
that he has to dominate her. This passive eastern femininity in relation to western male dominance is
portrayed in these dramas.
Because of this portrayal of Asian women, many Asian women feel that they are being approached by
men in a bad way. The submissiveness and weakness of these characters have angered many. Western
dramas have portrayed Asian women as submissive and

The TIP Report
Though understanding the root causes of a problem and proper management of victims and affected
persons are both important determinants in a global campaign s success, one of the most influential
factor lies with the reaction of the global community and foreign policy. In order to effect change, the
issues raised by the campaign must resonate with the international community, especially with people
in developed nations and those in power. Relating this to the case of human trafficking, the studies and
field of research on the issue have dramatically increased since 2000, due to an increased amount of
attention drawn to the global living standards, and creation of NGO s such as the United Nations.

Painting Comparison Essay
In both art and science, the uses of color tend to play a role in how temperature is perceived. For art
blues can be perceived as cooler colors, while reds are perceived as warmer colors. But, while in
science the color order is in reverse, reds are perceived as cooler colors, while blues are perceived as
warmer colors. In this paper two different paintings will be discussed to see just how distinct colors
are used to perceive temperature.
The first painting that will be discussed is The Houses of Parliament from Westminster
Bridge by artist Andre Derain. Andre Derain was an artist that was a part of the Fauvism artistic
movement. Fauvism artist emphasized intense colors over the representational and realistic values
retained by artist of impressionism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subject matter of romantic painters included landscapes, religion, revolution, and
Woodburn 2 peaceful beauty. On the night of October 16, 1934, fire consumed the House of
Parliament in
London, and Turner decide to capture this event in his own view, and use the painting to represent
man s helplessness when confronted with the destructive powers of nature. In Turner s painting of The
Burning Houses of Lords and Commons, Turner shows just how important the right colors can be to
give a painting a certain feeling. The yellow and orange colors that are used draw the focus to the
center of the painting and this is Parliament on fire. The dark and dreary shades of the blues, and grays
give the painting a sad and depressed feeling. Which is good because it helps to represent the message
that Turner was trying to convey that man is helpless when confronted with the destruction of nature.
From both of these paintings we can see how color can be used to represent different temperatures. In
Andre Derain s painting The Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge, the different temperature
of colors is used to give the feeling of brightness, warmth, and life.

How Do Violent Video Games Cause Gun Violence

Summary Of Berger s Invitation To Sociology
Berger s Invitation to Sociology: A Humanistic Perspective is a book about sociology as a scientific
methodology and a perspective through which the world can be explored. The author s major thesis is
that sociology is not limited to statistics, to which many people often reduce the importance of this
science, and it is not even limited to being a particular scientific discipline that is part of social
sciences, but it is a worldview in a way. Sociologists approach various situation[s]...in which people
orient their actions toward one another (Berger 1963:27), i.e. social situations, from the perspective of
these interactions and build a system of methods to analyze social processes.
By explaining the humanistic perspective proposed by him, the author convincingly demonstrates that
sociology is more than its methods, such as surveying, or its theories. There are many sociological
theories, but they all are part of the fundamental vision of all processes as the effects of human
interactions. Berger (1963) often refers to his own experience of being a sociologist, and this adds
reliability to his arguments. Also, despite beginning the book in a light and humorous manner, the
author further turns to complicated scientific notions and perspectives; this shows his expertise and
makes the book s major thesis more persuasive.
Apart from referring to reputable theories and sources, other persuasion tools used in the book include
emotional appeal and humor. These tools can build a

Dr Caligari Expressionism
Considered the quintessential work of German Expressionist films, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
remains one of the most influential films of both German cinema and the silent film era. The iconic
visual style of Caligari embodies the element of revolt that is accepted to be the basis of
Expressionism, which is defined as a total revolt against the existing order both in terms of style and
idea, society and the individual, art and ethics (Barlow 18). Caligari makes use of the mise en scène in
order to overcome the restrictions of black and white film. In this way, the expressionist stage, the
startling zigzags, the swirling arabesques and the outrageously exaggerated furniture that compose
each shot all contribute to the portrayal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caligari set the standard of the movement in film, fulfilling a number of expectations theorists had for
this transition of mediums; the set represents an emotional landscape, a projection of the intense
feelings of the main character, exaggerated acting with an extreme degree of emotional intensity
serves as a silent visual replacement of the outcry and exclamation of expressionistic poetry and
theater, and, to replace the vibrant colors of Expressionist art, there are considerable contrasts between
light and shadow (Barlow 25). All of these visual aspects made Caligari the most noteworthy of
German Expressionist films, and was more than likely the inspiration for the film noir style that
emerged several decades later. The limitations of sound and color do not detract from Caligari s ability
to visually express common themes of Weimar Germany, most prominently those of authority,
insanity, and duality. Such themes are expressed so prominently that it has led many to interpret the
film as a close examination of society in the Weimar Republic and the implications the film had for
Germany s future. Nevertheless, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari certainly influenced the revival of the
Expressionist movement through film, and its influence stands the test of

Hellenistic Miletus Research Paper
The Milesian system was structured originally on six tribes, but when they changed to a more
democratic system under Athenian influence they changed over to 12 tribes. It is highly probable that
they submitted their candidates for offices from these tribes. In order to become a citizen one had to be
enrolled in these tribes. Milesian territory was broken up into 5 or 7 demes or districts. The earliest
officials mentioned in decrees of Hellenistic Miletus are the synedroi, whose status is not clear. They
have been considered as either a standing committee of the city council or as an ad hoc commission

which was reduced down to 10 in the late second century. However, it is hard to know how frequent

In my opinion, I believe that the Stanford Prison study led to more harm than the Immunization study
because according to prisoner Mr. Ramsey, the experiment should never have taken place as it had no

that they had to end the study early due to a string of mental breakdowns, an outbreak of sadism and a
hunger strike (Leithhead, 2011). This study was conducted to see if the violent behaviors are as a
result of the roles of prisoners and guards or is it solely based on the individual s personality. What
made this study so dangerous is the face that almost everything felt so real, the guards looked real, the

The Value Of Philosophy By Bertrand Russell
The essay The Value of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell suggests that many practical people view
philosophy as rather useless, because these people are according to Bertrand Russell operating both
with wrong conceptions about the ends of life and wrong conceptions about what goods philosophy
strives to achieve. According to Russell the value of philosophy is in what it does for the person who
studies it. He makes the point that goods of the mind are as important in life as goods of the body. He
says that the main value of philosophy is that it enlarges one s thoughts, brings one into union with the
not Self , and helps us avoid being caught in narrowness as human beings. His main ideas are that
philosophy is to be studied to enrich our intellects, diminish our dogmatism, and make us citizens of
the universe.
In the essay, Russell presents the study of philosophy as a valuable undertaking, even though it does
not directly help the whole world or increase one s material wealth. The value is to be found for the
student of philosophy herself or himself. This value is primarily found in the intellectual development
that is available for those who undertake the study philosophy. They can escape narrowness,
dogmatism, and narrowness as they become citizens of the world, with enriched intellectual
capacities. Russell concludes with the idea that the mind becomes enlarged through the study of
philosophy.

Introduction
In the past few decades there have been many developments in the live music events industry, which
have led to live music events growing to be global events. (Goldblatt, J., 2002) There are several
reasons for this development in the music events industry, many of them closely connected to
developments in other sectors that influence the business of live music events. In this essay we will

(Mintel, 2010) Also charity events have increased the global involvement in music events and have
attracted not only a wider variety of public but also political involvement. Because of this, live music
events have been able to attract a much bigger variety of public, which has enabled the business to
create global music events that are not focused on a particular segment of people but attract people of
all ages and social backgrounds. (Bennett, A., 2001)
Legal
As a result of commercial success and growth in the live music events business legal involvement has
over the years become necessary and this means involvement of an entire business that has contributed
to the growth of the music events industry in many ways. According to D. Becker (2006) the growth
in commercial value and the increase of complexity of live music events have increased the need to
record arrangements in writing and have made the legal rights and obligations of the parties involved
more complex. This has led to the legal business becoming a big part of the live music business
because especially with global music events so many parties are involved and thus so many legal
involvement has become necessary. In this day and age where digitalization has influenced the music
business so severely, new legislation is introduced every year to update the copyright code (Bargfrede

Science Without Science Is Materialism
Bahá u lláh, the founder of the Bahá í faith, once said, Religion without science is superstition and
science without religion is materialism (www.bahai.org). Throughout history, mankind always strive
to seek answers to solve the perplexities of the world. For that, there is one question that provokes
everyone s curiosity: How was the world created? Young earth creationism is an example of where
science explains natural phenomenon that enabled life to establish and where faith explains that an
almighty being created the world through wondrous works. As of today, it is still a debate that
continues because of different conclusions of how the world came to be. In order to delve further into
the issue, insights from Plato, Francis Bacon, and Richard Feynman along with additional sources
clarify why people believe and support scientific ideas over religion. To identify factors that drive
people to believe why the world was created by natural and scientific forces instead of being made by
an almighty being, a various distinctions from science and faith must be made. According to the Bible,
it is written, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The
same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him; and without him was not

of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The memory being that of a day
from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back
into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. The horses making their way
to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight breaking through the clouds picking out
images in the distance. Images getting darker and more vivid as the horses drew nearer. A ... Show

The poem is in the form of a four line verse with an almost constant AA BB rhyme. The line lengths
are constant but some lines do run on into the next. The rhythm of the poem begins with a slow pace,
this is suggested by the word lumbering in line 1, then the piece begins to slowly pick up the tempo at
line 13. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24.
The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25,
after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the
use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to
seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the
word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of
Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the
letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo
begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad
breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger
impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more
almost mythological properties, glowing with mysterious fire (line 19), and

The Real Estate Appraisal Process
Real Estate Appraisal Process Executive Summary The real estate appraisal process is a process that
affects nearly everyone who lives in a home. Most people do not have the funding to purchase a home
outright and must rely on financing to purchase their homes. Banks require that a real estate appraisal
be conducted to determine what the market value of a property is so they know how much the
property is worth as collateral for the loan. Therefore the appraisal serves as the basis for factors such
as determining a fair market price, how much collateral a property can offer a lender, or in some cases
even how much a property should be able to earn in income in a best use scenario. This report will
outline the basic steps of evaluating the value of property as well as discuss some of the considerations
surrounding the appraisal process in general. Three Approaches to Value There are three primary
routes to establishing a real estate property values and these methods differ significantly. The most
common for residential real estate is the determination of market value or the sales comparison
approach. This method utilizes sales data to determine what other similar properties in the local
market have sold for. Another method of determining value is through a cost approach which is more
typical in new construction. For example, when a contractor builds a new house or structure they
might charge for the materials and labor that was used plus some amount of

Organizational Behavior ( Ob )
Organizational behavior (OB) is the study of how people interact within groups and can be used to
achieve a covenant relationship within organizations similar to the relationship that God has with His
people. Personalities have a significant role in OB and personality tests create value by allowing
organizations to determine ahead of time where potential conflict may arise between employees. The
Jung Typology Test classifies people into one of the sixteen personality types determined by Isabel
Briggs Myers and one of the four temperaments defined by David Keirsey. This discussion examines
the effect of my ISTJ personality type and SJ temperament on myself and those around me on a
personal and professional level. The analysis covers the strengths, weaknesses, and sources of conflict
associated with each individual aspect of the ISTJ personality introverted, sensing, thinking, and
judging as well as assessing the personality type as a whole. Lastly, the discussion concludes with
lessons I have learned regarding the use of OB in workplace improvement efforts, as well as specific
areas where I can use OB to enhance my performance as an employee, co worker, and manager.
Keywords: organizational behavior, Myers Briggs, ISTJ, personality, workplace

Organizational behavior (OB) can help organizations follow the covenant model God provided in the
Bible by creating healthy attitudes and processes and reducing conflict in the workplace (Fischer,

Human beings are seen has having capacity to strive for fulfilment and growth. Rogers referred this
capacity as the ideal self . Enabling a person to move in the direction of their self defined ideals is
major aim of the person centred therapy. Human beings are viewed as fully functioning persons who
are open to experience and able to live existentially, trusting in own organism, expresses feelings
freely, acts independently, are creative and lives a richer life which involve a process and a direction,
and not a destination (Rogers, 1961, p.186).Therapy can develop and psychologically change those
who do not have an optimal childhood in order restore the organismic valuing process (Rogers,
1959).This idea portrays an importance strand contrast to psychoanalysis whose orientation of their
theory as reflected by Freud was towards understanding and explaining pathology or illness.
There are three important aspects to the therapist s approach; congruence, unconditional positive
regard and accurate empathic understanding. These are three core conditions that facilitate the
actualization and growth. These conditions relate to the shared journey in which therapists and clients
reveal their humanness and participate in a growth experience together. Its only

Coronary Artery The left main coronary artery (LMCA) arises from the left aortic coronary sinus
ranging in diameter from 3 to 6 mm and up to 10 to 15 mm length. It courses behind the right
ventricular outflow tract and usually bifurcates into the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and left
circumflex (LCx) branches. Rarely, the LMCA artery is absent, and the LAD and LCx arteries arises
from separate ostia. In some patients, the LMCA trifurcates into the LAD, LCx and the ramus
intermedius which arises between the LAD and the LCx arteries. Left Anterior Descending Artery The
left anterior descending (LAD) artery passes along the surface of interventricular groove anteriorly
toward the cardiac apex. It gives several septal perforators and diagonal branches. Most patients have
one to three diagonal branches. In most patients the LAD rounds along the left ventricular apex and
ends at the diaphragmatic surface of the left ventricle.

Waiting For Godot Essay
The atomic bomb signaled not only the commencement of the Cold War, but also a political divide

dominant Cold War paradigms to ........ ATQ....... Samuel Beckett s modernist existential play Waiting

This is established at the beginning of Act 1, through an allusion to Christian philosophy in Vladimir s
dialogue about the fable of the two thieves, where One is supposed to have been saved and the other
damned . In his allusion to the Bible, Beckett emphasises chance being woven into even the most
sacred of texts that supposedly hold the ultimate truth for humanity. Moreover, in his book
Understanding Samuel Beckett (1990), Alan Astro highlights that it is God s silence that causes the
real hopelessness amidst all the comical actions of Beckett s characters. He suggests, the recourse to
bookkeeping by the philosopher (Pascal) no less than the clownish tramp shows how helpless we are
with respect to God s silence . However, while Beckett s play is concerned with a loss of meaning, it
raises a positive message, implying we are free to give our own lives meaning and purpose, free to
redeem our suffering by making something of it (Kaufmann). While Beckett sees little reason for hope
after witnessing the trauma caused by the very weapons meant to preserve world peace, he is unable to
relinquish it entirely. This is evident in the symbol of the tree. The tree is central to the set design of
the play, for the sprouting of leaves in act 2, metaphorically suggests new life and resolution an image

Public Transportation And Its Effects On The United States
The early morning drizzle was constant, threatening to become actual rain. Della stood on the corner,
her blonde hair gradually becoming heavy with droplets, guaranteeing a day of bad frizz. She d been
praying for rain for months, despairing over the ravages of the extended drought in Northern
California, worrying about what it meant for the future, and yet she felt irritated that the rain had
chosen to come today, the day she had to take public transportation.
She had never liked public transportation; it was too... public. It presented too much opportunity for
unpredictability, requiring her to share personal space with strangers. This was a challenge for Della,
who could be fairly described as either profoundly introverted, or just plain antisocial, depending on
who was doing the describing. When she was a kid, the school bus her first foray into public

become a target for the ubiquitous bullies looming in the back. If possible, she d sit right behind the
driver, engage him or her in conversation. The proximity to an adult and the appearance of
relationship, however flimsy, seemed to provide some kind of amnesty, a temporary buffer until she
could get off the bus and make a beeline for the classroom and her teacher s protection. Later, when
she went to college in San Francisco, she d daily suffered through crowded bus and train rides to and

Collective Bargaining And The Intervention Of Trade Unions
Collective Bargaining and A Strong Role for Unions Is Not Constructive (Advantageous) to
Organisations in Today s Economic Conditions Trade unions in Australia emerged in 1850s when
industry had its first amazingly fast development. The aim of the unions is to unite all labors to
counter the excessive power of employers so that working conditions and wages can be promoted.
This aim now has been basically realized with the establishment of awards system which sets out the
rates of pay and terms of employment. On this basis, this essay will provide evidence on that
collective bargaining and the intervention of trade unions need to be cut down in order that companies

Pluralism lessens the managerial prerogative but cannot take individual differences into consideration
while unitarism is the contrary (Oram, 1984). In accordance with pluralism and unitarism, there are
two ways of negotiation between the employer and the employee which are collective bargaining
(between representatives of two parties) and individual bargaining (between individual employee and
the employer). In dealing with industry relations, trade unions are always involved and collective
bargaining is used while in human resource management (HRM) individual bargaining is preferred
(Guest, 1987). The role of trade unions is much related to the social economic situation. Collective
bargaining is especially useful in fiscal crisis as two sides through negotiation can bring terms and
strategies helpful for both (Lewin et al., 2011). However, when the overall financial situation is strong,
collective bargaining is more of a tool for employees interest than for mutual profit. According to the
survey on Australian economy, its GDP growth rate is quite stable. Australian GDP expanded 1.1
percent seasonally over previous three months, which is the highest in the last seven quaters (TRADE
ECONOMICS, 2014). Trade unions showed up when workers were cruelly exploited at the start of the

Why Are Wildfires Important To Society
Have you ever stopped to wonder if wildfires truly important to society? Well after doing some
research, wildfires play an important role in the natural adaptations that occur in the Earth s
ecosystem. On the NASA Earth Observatory: Global Fire Monitoring website states that The diversity
of plant and animal life in the world s forest, prairies, and wetlands in (partly) dependent on the effects
of fire; in fact some plants can not reproduce without fire . The reason why some plants are dependent
on wildfires is because the fire breaks open the outer layer of the seeds and invigorate germination.
Fires begin vital natural process for nutrients. Rain then passes the nutrients back into the soil
restoring fertile seedbed for plants. Wildfires impact on the ecosystem, plays a major part in forming
the ecosystems by serving as an agent of restoration and change. These fires can also be extremely

Siddhartha Analysis Paper
Time does not exist; love is eternal; death brings peace. Siddhartha illustrates each of these themes in
the novel, Siddhartha. Throughout his life, Siddhartha is very independent. For example, Siddhartha
demonstrates self determination when he leaves his overbearing father to begin the life of the Samanas
(Hesse 10). There, he escapes from the physical world to soon realize that enlightenment cannot come
from ignoring the world around him. He decides to follow the Buddha and learn his teachings;
however, he is unsuccessful. As Siddhartha goes through his unaccompanied journey towards
Enlightenment, he comes to realize that he must let his loved ones go and that each man must find the
way by himself (Malthaner 3). Foolishly, he falls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

loses Kamala s love but hopes to gain the love of his son. Unfortunately, he never does. Siddhartha
treats his son with consideration and respect although he realizes the boy has been spoiled by a
wealthy lifestyle. He unsuccessfully tries to win over the love of his son, but his love is not mutual.
Young Siddhartha soon runs away towards the village to continue his life without his controlling
father. Although Siddhartha understands that he must let him go, his love for his son is overwhelming;
he cannot bear to let the boy go. After speaking with Vasudeva, the Ferryman, and learning from the
river, Siddhartha learns to accept the loss of love. Now, Siddhartha has gained wisdom and
understanding of love universal love. Enlightenment cannot exist without love, for love is the most
important thing in the world (Hesse 147). Through Kamala and his son he has learned that one must
love the world, not despise it (Hesse 147). At first, love is portrayed as an immoral feeling and thought
of as an obstacle in his journey to reach Nirvana. Later, Siddhartha learns that one must love to

Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape
On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay not
much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia) According
to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a woman should
pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does. Because a woman is
likely become a victim in a rape case. In this article, the author also implies that even the law should
protect women from the rape, but women themselves still should build up a self protection awareness
to keep them away from the rape crime. (Paglia) However, even this article points out a main
argument about self protection awareness is necessary for a woman, but some of its point didn t
support the main argument of this article. In additional, the focus of my article is about to analysis the
article of Camille Paglia, On Date Rape. Also, I ll point out some misconceptions about her work.
The first point I recognized in Paglia s article is the third paragraph of the article, which explains that
because of the young feminists come from a white, middle class world, so that they expect everything
should be safe as they think. On the other side, because the black or Hispanic women grow up in a
different environment, where full of sexual culture, therefore they will pay more attention of their
safety (Paglia). In my opinion, the rape crime is not only existing in black and

  • 3. Wystan Hugh Auden Research Paper The English American poet, Wystan Hugh Auden, better known as W. H. Auden, was known for his ability to craft poems in different styles centering his work on different moral, social, and political issues. W.H. Auden is recognized for having some of the most renowned poetry of the 20th century due to his ability to use ancient moral issues, and relate them to current events of the time. Even though Auden had a talent for using his personal experiences to create poetry of love and suffering, some of his most powerful poems are written upon the immortality of war. Focusing on totalitarian dictators, Auden created two of his most moving poems, September 1, 1939 and The Shield of Achilles . Auden uses his poetry to express the ways bureaucratic dictatorship is used to control citizens, leading dictators to unleash war upon the world. Due to his knowledge of the potential destructive tendencies of dictators, Auden uses his poetry to convey the message that the power of enduring human spirit has the ability to counteract the harmful effects of dictatorship if civilians suppress the power of the tyrant. Wystan Hugh Auden was born on February 21, 1907, in York, England. Auden was raised in a strict and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Psychological Perspective Analysis When considering the different common psychological perspectives that are available, it can become difficult to discern which one best accounts for a particular psychological belief. That being said, the author leans towards the opinion that the behavioral perspective is the psychological perspective which best accounts for the accepted connection between video games and aggressive behavior. This perspective is founded on behaviorism, but it also incorporates the social cognitive theory. This perspective places observable behavior and the importance of learning as the key tenets. It is based off of the belief that an individual s behavior is a product of the rewards and punishments that they have received as the results of their actions. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea that the consequences of our actions, the rewards and punishments, can be used to mold us is one that occurs repeatedly throughout both the Old and the New Testaments. In addition, intentional discipline for the purpose of character building, whether imposed by God or by man, is repeatedly cited as a useful training tool. Hebrews 12:11 states that No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it (New International Version). This verse and others of similar content remind readers that people really do learn from the unpleasant experiences which might result from their actions. It is when psychologists take this perspective too far that it becomes inconsistent with biblical principles. Although discipline and rewards may help to train individuals in the ways of right and wrong, they do not ultimately determine the individual s behavior. Christians are called to follow what is right regardless of how much the people around them encourage ungodly behavior whether through positive reinforcement, punishments, or ... • 5. Ways of Reading and Jane Tompkins Essay Ways of Reading and Jane Tompkins In the book, Ways of Reading, the authors Bartholomae and Petrosky outline what they describe as a strong reader . They characterize the attributes that collectively contribute to this title and then talk about the relations between a strong reader and a strong writer. The perspectives that Bartholomae and Petrosky discuss on ideas and textual analysis are very interesting and in point of fact remind me of the thought process of which I use when analyzing a reading. Strong readers often read critically, weighing, for example, an author claims and interpretations against evidence evidence provided by the author in the text, evidence drawn from other sources, or the evidence that is assumed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her essay quickly turns into an analysis of the bias facts issued by authors and it s effect on the final product. By the time Tompkins s has to conclude her essay, the essay has progressed into something that has nothing to do with Native American s relations; instead the initial subject has become a catalyst for her conclusion. I didn t know what the facts were. All I had, or could have, was a series of different perspectives, and so nothing that would count as an authoritative source on which moral judgments could be based. But, as I have just show, I did judge, and that is because, as I now think, I did have some facts. (p.686) As shown in the passage above, the argument that Tompkins s is having with herself is generalized. The story behind this quote could be anything, Tompkins has utilized a story about Indians as it helped her structure her argument a little more efficiently. Also, reading the passage above, we see that Jane Tompkins has contradicted herself, this is another technique she uses to exemplify her idea, and she will clarify this contradiction later in the conclusion. The awareness of the interests motivating each version cast suspicion over everything, in retrospect, and I ended by claiming that there was nothing I could know. This, I now see, was never really the case. But how did it happen #8230;Why did I conclude that none of the accounts was accurate because they were all produced from some particular angle of vision? Biodiversity Hotspot of the Mountains of Central Asia Biodiversity Hotspot of the Mountains of Central Asia Central Asia is associated with seven countries: Western China, Southern Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, northeastern Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan. Central Asia has many sub regions, a wide range of altitude belts, and surrounded by some world s highest mountain ranges, such as the Tien Shan and the Pamir, the latter is known as the roof of the world . The mountains of Central Asia have a high level of biological diversity due to its ecosystems, populations, and species because of its unique geographical locations. The majority of precipitation in these areas is supplied by subtropical winds and storms from the Mediterranean Sea that give precipitation mainly in winter and spring. It varies from 1,500 millimeters on the west side to less than 100 millimeters in the Eastern Pamir, which is the closest spot to the Taklamakan Desert (Conservation International, 2008). • 7. Slaying the Dragon Essay Slaying the Dragon: How Asian Women were Portrayed in Movies Slaying the Dragon by Deborah Gee is a comprehensive look at media stereotypes of Asian and Asian American women since the silent era. From the racist use of white actors to portray Asians in early Hollywood films, through the success of Anna May Wong s sinister dragon lady, to Suzie Wong and the 50s geisha girls, to the Asian American anchorwoman of today. The movie also shows how stereotypes of exoticism and docility have affected the perception of Asian American women. In many movies Asian women are sexually stereotyped as exotic, subservient, compliant, industrious, and eager to please. In the movie three Asian American women tell their story bout their lives in China and American life. Nowhere in the movie are Asian American women presented as sexually subservient, but it presents realistically the lives of these Asian women. Historically in western drama, Asian women have been portrayed in a highly negative light. The Asian women in films like Sayonara and The San Pebbles and musicals like Miss Saigon are seen as people who are submissive and silent. A young American soldier is often involved in these plots, as most of these plots are war dramas. The Asian girl falls in love with the American because she sees him as a savior who will take her back home with him so she can fulfill what she thinks is the American Dream , meaning that she can go from rags to riches. On the contrary, the American falls in love with the Asian girl because he feels preference for submissiveness, which he finds more feminine and attractive. As well, the American is embodied with the Christopher Columbus Syndrome , and feels that he has to dominate her. This passive eastern femininity in relation to western male dominance is portrayed in these dramas. Because of this portrayal of Asian women, many Asian women feel that they are being approached by men in a bad way. The submissiveness and weakness of these characters have angered many. On the night of October 16, 1934, fire consumed the House of Parliament in London, and Turner decide to capture this event in his own view, and use the painting to represent man s helplessness when confronted with the destructive powers of nature. In Turner s painting of The Burning Houses of Lords and Commons, Turner shows just how important the right colors can be to give a painting a certain feeling. The yellow and orange colors that are used draw the focus to the center of the painting and this is Parliament on fire. The dark and dreary shades of the blues, and grays give the painting a sad and depressed feeling. Which is good because it helps to represent the message that Turner was trying to convey that man is helpless when confronted with the destruction of nature. From both of these paintings we can see how color can be used to represent different temperatures. • 12. Summary Of Berger s Invitation To Sociology Berger s Invitation to Sociology: A Humanistic Perspective is a book about sociology as a scientific methodology and a perspective through which the world can be explored. The author s major thesis is that sociology is not limited to statistics, to which many people often reduce the importance of this science, and it is not even limited to being a particular scientific discipline that is part of social sciences, but it is a worldview in a way. Sociologists approach various situation[s]...in which people orient their actions toward one another (Berger 1963:27), i.e. social situations, from the perspective of these interactions and build a system of methods to analyze social processes. By explaining the humanistic perspective proposed by him, the author convincingly demonstrates that sociology is more than its methods, such as surveying, or its theories. There are many sociological theories, but they all are part of the fundamental vision of all processes as the effects of human interactions. Berger (1963) often refers to his own experience of being a sociologist, and this adds reliability to his arguments. Also, despite beginning the book in a light and humorous manner, the author further turns to complicated scientific notions and perspectives; this shows his expertise and makes the book s major thesis more persuasive. Apart from referring to reputable theories and sources, other persuasion tools used in the book include emotional appeal and humor. These tools can build a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dr Caligari Expressionism Considered the quintessential work of German Expressionist films, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) remains one of the most influential films of both German cinema and the silent film era. The iconic visual style of Caligari embodies the element of revolt that is accepted to be the basis of Expressionism, which is defined as a total revolt against the existing order both in terms of style and idea, society and the individual, art and ethics (Barlow 18). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Caligari set the standard of the movement in film, fulfilling a number of expectations theorists had for this transition of mediums; the set represents an emotional landscape, a projection of the intense feelings of the main character, exaggerated acting with an extreme degree of emotional intensity serves as a silent visual replacement of the outcry and exclamation of expressionistic poetry and theater, and, to replace the vibrant colors of Expressionist art, there are considerable contrasts between light and shadow (Barlow 25). All of these visual aspects made Caligari the most noteworthy of German Expressionist films, and was more than likely the inspiration for the film noir style that emerged several decades later. The limitations of sound and color do not detract from Caligari s ability to visually express common themes of Weimar Germany, most prominently those of authority, insanity, and duality. Such themes are expressed so prominently that it has led many to interpret the film as a close examination of society in the Weimar Republic and the implications the film had for Germany s future. The Value Of Philosophy By Bertrand Russell The essay The Value of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell suggests that many practical people view philosophy as rather useless, because these people are according to Bertrand Russell operating both with wrong conceptions about the ends of life and wrong conceptions about what goods philosophy strives to achieve. According to Russell the value of philosophy is in what it does for the person who studies it. He makes the point that goods of the mind are as important in life as goods of the body. He says that the main value of philosophy is that it enlarges one s thoughts, brings one into union with the not Self , and helps us avoid being caught in narrowness as human beings. His main ideas are that philosophy is to be studied to enrich our intellects, diminish our dogmatism, and make us citizens of the universe. In the essay, Russell presents the study of philosophy as a valuable undertaking, even though it does not directly help the whole world or increase one s material wealth. The value is to be found for the student of philosophy herself or himself. This value is primarily found in the intellectual development that is available for those who undertake the study philosophy. They can escape narrowness, dogmatism, and narrowness as they become citizens of the world, with enriched intellectual capacities. Russell concludes with the idea that the mind becomes enlarged through the study of philosophy. [PLEASE NOTE!: I have not put much commentary on the quotes here, but ... The memory being that of a day from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24. The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25, after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. Most people do not have the funding to purchase a home outright and must rely on financing to purchase their homes. Banks require that a real estate appraisal be conducted to determine what the market value of a property is so they know how much the property is worth as collateral for the loan. Therefore the appraisal serves as the basis for factors such as determining a fair market price, how much collateral a property can offer a lender, or in some cases even how much a property should be able to earn in income in a best use scenario. This report will outline the basic steps of evaluating the value of property as well as discuss some of the considerations surrounding the appraisal process in general. Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay not much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia) According to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a woman should pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does.
