Spencer Pote s Major Accomplishments
It s a joke about the letters in DNA; like, it s A, C, T and G, and they made every CAT into a cat head.
The first thing you notice in Spencer Pote s office is the giant fluorescent colored poster on his desk; it
contrasts heavily with the dark brown of the wood and the grays of the carpet and cabinets. I m a big
fan of cats. I ve had them since I was a baby, and I m going to have them until I die. If someone didn t
know who Spencer Pote was, they would probably assume he was a quirky high school teacher.
However, with a quick scan of the wall it becomes evident Pote is different; a PhD from University of
Chicago in Human Genetics cozies up to a picture of Pote s husband, which rests right above a photo
of Pote being awarded the Edward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Genéticus, a non profit organization founded by Pote, has now reached it s one million landmark of
treatments over five locations near the U.S. Mexico border. With Genéticus, Pote has pioneered the
way gene therapy works in the modern world, setting precedents of altruism and accessibility through
his non profit organization. All information that Genéticus distributes is bilingual, and there is no fee
for an initial consultation with a geneticist. The main goal of Genéticus is to remove the risk of
devastating genetic diseases in the embryo of Hispanic children through genetic engineering.
However, the biggest achievement that Pote himself created was his work in epigenetics and the
demethylation of genes in embryos. During intensely stressful times, the levels of cortisol will
increase within an individual. When this occurs, methyl groups simultaneously accumulate on the
genes responsible for the cortisol production, making it easier for RNA transcribe the gene by
loosening the DNA s coil. If these individuals have children, the amount of methyl groups on the
genome will be carried over to the next generation, increasing the risk of them having anxiety and

Underlying Causes of WWI
The summer of 1914 , was one of the goriest wars our world has ever experienced. World War One

Militarism is one of the underlying causes of WWI.Germany was always trying to improve their

One of the major reasons that this was a world war was because of the relationships between the
different countries. Germany had an alliance with Austria Hungary W, who could have had many other
alliances with different nations. With all the alliances , each nation had a different point of view of
who started the war. Germany ,Serbia , and Austria Hungary were the only ones that thought Germany
started the war. Alliances are another reason as to how the war started.
Imperialism was the final main underlying cause of WWI. Germans felt that they needed to charge to
conquer the other countries and colonize them as best they could. It caused problems with other
countries because of the small amount of the land they owned in each nation. The Germans actions
would cause anger through other nations towards Germany. Imperialism is one of the many reasons of

Target Unncryption Case Study
Several organizations that have faced recent major breaches use encryption strategies. Unfortunately,
encryption is frequently not applied and used properly. A strong security strategy is needed which
keeps entire systems in a comprehensive way in order for encryption to be successful. For instance, an
encryption process and large key may become useless if the encryption key is collected with the data.
The cybercriminals will simply gain access to the system and use the key to unencrypt the data
(Ferguson, Schneieir, Tadayoshi, 2010, p. 12). For encryption to be operative, company must use a
defense in depth strategy in which you also keep the key and protect access to systems where the data
needs to be unencrypted in order to be managed.
Target allegedly paid a great deal of money on security technology (Capacio, 2014). Although systems
used encryption, the encryption was incompetent because the data was retrieved in memory where it
was unencrypted. Though some level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows that there were weaknesses in each layer of defense used by Target that eventually allowed
cybercriminals to gain access to some of their most sensitive data.
Although many security procedures were in place throughout the Target organization, extra layers of
protection would have blocked the attack at many points along the way. Using a stronger Defense in
Depth strategy would have guaranteed that each level was not reachable from the next. Furthermore,
protections on the POS system itself could have added extra security to the data.
Critical Control
In 2008, the federal government arranged a group of public and private organizations to come up with
a list of Critical Controls founded on many other cyber security lists and guidelines. Critical Controls
are added to the list because they help avoid and identify known attacks efficiently (SANS Institute,

Cinematography Analysis Of Polanski s Chinatown
Cinematography Analysis in Chinatown
Chinatown is based on Roman Polanski s lifeworks. Polanski s goal is to emphasizes the meaning of
how cinematography is made, and how it inspires by understanding the concept of setting, lighting,
and how the image is captured. This film was released in 1974 by director of Roman Polanski to focus
on private investigator J.J. Gittes, played by Jack Nicholson to investigate the elements behind the
truth. Polanski s goal is to emphasize the audience to give an ominous feeling of the main character,
J.J. Gittes and his point of view by showing in color instead of black and white pictures. Due to these
reasons, Polanski wanted to use Panavision to give a flawed vision about the past, which the story is
set in the years of 1937. Polanski states, a traditional detective story with a new, modern shape for
Paramount picture. (1) This paper focuses on the film Chinatown which is neo noir, not only because
of the setting, but the concept of cinematography that connects duplicates occurrences together that
describe three categories: background of the cinematographer, point of view of the main character, and
the interpretation of the ending scenes.
First of all, Roman Polanski hired John A. Alonzo as the Director of Photography for Chinatown.
Therefore, Alonzo was well known for his notable works, as Director of Photography position after
Chinatown s successful film is Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Scarface, and Star Trek:

Dinner Ladies, a Sydney based home cooked meal delivery service. The business, founded seven
years ago, successfully manages to utilize several effective marketing concepts including the
management and growth of their market based assets, and the ability to adapt to environmental

Alongside marketing interventions, for instance advertising campaigns, market based assets are
essential in the determination of the likelihood of future sales. Market based assets are defined as the
mental and physical availability that makes a brand easier to buy for more people, in more situations

Summary Of Chapter Twelve Of The Omnivore s Dilemma
Reading Summary/Discussion Questions #3 This past week of class we were to read chapters ten
through fourteen of The Omnivore s Dilemma. This week s readings were really a mix of different
things, but it was a more behind the scenes look at what happens on a farm. I found it all very
interesting, as I have this entire book, because often times I do not know what all goes into farming
and it was interesting to see how it traveled from Polyface Farms to the market to a meal. In chapters
ten and eleven, Pollan continues to observe Salatin s Polyface Farm where he focuses on his
agricultural practice. In chapter thirteen, Pollan views how Salatin sells his food and his beliefs behind
agriculture. Finally, chapter twelve deals with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the contrary, the U.S. Department of Agriculture believes in fence to fence sowing, so there are
really no trees. Pollan points out that this type of agriculture has many problems and many of these
lead to disease. Unfortunately, this agriculture has been stripped of its wisdom and intelligence. Even
Salatin points out that rural schools encourage the smarter ones to go to college and the low scoring
students stay behind to help on the farm. Basically, it s a foolish culture that entrusts its food supply to
simpletons (Pollan 221). Coming from a rural school, I see this being true, but I also have to disagree
with Salatin because they may not be the smartest, but they sure do know a lot about corn. The second
section to be reviewed is chapter thirteen. In this chapter, Pollan sees how Salatin sells his food and
how it compares to other supermarkets. Compared to other supermarkets, Polyface Farm s food is
more expensive; however, Salatin argues that it is actually, if fact, cheaper. He believes that because it
is produced without subsidies and it is more sustainable compared to industrial food. Consumers also
have a reason for choosing Salatin s food over other supermarkets. They believe that his chicken tastes
better and would rather pay for quality, which it seems many people do not want to do today. For
example, I work at a farmer s market and you would not believe how many people complain

What Ifs Cognitive Distortion
I have found that I often fall victim to the What Ifs cognitive distortion; I frequently ruminate on what
could happen or what I could have done differently in a particular situation. I have always been a very
cautious individual and I sometimes obsess over how my decisions impact others and what others
might think of my decisions or behavior. I feel that this has a lot to do with my childhood experiences
and my drive to be the perfect child , which is of course is not possible and not expected. I was an
over thinker who wanted to ensure that I did not cause my parents, the stress and heartache they had
experienced as a result of the behavior of my older sister. There were also very high expectations that

Rappers Vs Griots
Many argue that the past griot s and the rappers of today in Africa, are as different as an apple and
orange. *You have those who believe the foundation of both practices are one hundred percent
different. Everything that makes a griot who they are, is completely the opposite of what shapes an
African rapper. *On contrast, there are also those who presume that the message and way of execution
are the same for both lyracis. *The belief that the two are different, mostly comes from those of older
age, or who have a lineage of griots that backtrack throughout the years. *While those who believe the
opposite, are of younger age and have more modern day experiences. So although socially, the African
griot and rapper are on two different platforms, the message and ways of expression are tantamount,
however, the fundamentals are contrasting. As time progressed and rappers begin to make appearances
in the 1990 s, griots were still in full effect. Just as the griots openly criticize politicians and protest
the conditions of community, rappers do the same. For example, if the issue was unemployment, it

*However, just like the modern day griot s (rappers), classic griots don t just sing, but they also rap.
So just as social issues and hymns are performed by the griot and the rapper, they are also done in the
style of rap. But of course, many rappers and griots in Africa sing to give a softer approach to the
audience. *For example, when singing about a particularly melancholy part of African history, a song
may be presented. This is also exercised by the rappers of Africa. However, sometimes just as a
camera tell a thousand word, so does an instrument. The emotion and force that goes into playing can
tell a full story. The principle is completely understood by the griots and rapper of the past and the

The Characteristics Of A True Hero In Beowulf
Even though a hero is one who laughs in the presence of evil. One who is brave, confident, and always
is there for his people in there time of need. Beowulf, in my opinion, displayed a few of the
characteristics of a hero. True he was brave and adventurous, however, he was selfish because he did
all of his heroic events in order to show his greatness. For example, in the battle against Grendel, he
was willing to risk his life by fighting without weapons to show his might. A real hero would not
foolishly unarm himself only to prove his strength. Beowulf, however, did show great bravery and
good judgment during his battle against the dragon, even though it was there that he met his demise.
He rose to the challenge to protect his kingdom and did in fact, with a little help, do just that.Although
foolish, He never once feared for his life as was quick to take on any challenge. In conclusion, besides
his arrogance, Beowulf is a good example of a true hero. , Throughout Beowulf, Grendel is described
as mankind s enemy, and his attacks are driven by the jealousy that humans are able to enjoy life in the
light, and he is condemned to misery in the darkness. It s not just Grendel s ancestry that makes him
evil; Grendel s actions are evil as well. because I have wrested the hilt from the enemies hand,
avenged the evil done to the Danes; it is what was due. (1668 1670) The battle between good and evil
is a necessary part of Beowulf s life; it consists of fighting for

Prejudice In John Carreon s A Class Divided
Juan Carreon
A Class Divided
This documentary was about how it feels to be discriminated upon and how it can be influenced in
small children easily. Discrimination creates a barrier in the mind. For this reason, the barriers created
by the prejudice are hard to overcome. In light to this, Elliott segregates her class according to eye
color whereby brown eyes are perceived to be superior to the blue eyed people. On the first day, the
brown eyed pupils were provided with privileges (A Class Divided). They were allowed to have help
at lunch, extra time at recess and a sense of self worth above the blue eyed students. However, on the
On the following day (not next) the situation is reversed and the blue eyed pupils are indulged with
privilege which results to making brown eyed pupils feel less special compared with their peers.
Elliott takes the opportunity to observe her class turning into a microcosm of society. Surprisingly,
every time the experiment was carried out, the preferred group quickly turned the tables and embraced
elite status. This implies that the two groups readily adopted the propaganda that Elliott sprouted on
them (A Class Divided). The two created groups readily adopted their roles to perfection.
I particularly agree with Elliot that racism is propaganda built on the people s mind that may not be
easy to overcome. A keen observation of the experiment shows that both parties assumed their roles
once they were empowered to operate. In real life situation, the wealthy and the have not are
improvised environments. The environment is either improvised by the politicians, economists,
capitalists or psychologists. A typical example is the African American relationship that has existed for
many years. However, no single relationship exists between the skin color and a person capability to
carry out an exercise. In the last American presidential election, President Barrack Obama managed to
gain the presidency despite being of African American. More so, the first renowned neurosurgeon
across the globe is Ben Carson. These individuals, in particular are enough evidence to disapprove the
Elliott idea of discrimination (A Class Divided). They are perfect examples of people who have

Christ And The Sea
Christ and the Sea
Santiago is an old fisherman from Cuba. He s a man who doesn t have much, except for a strong will.
From the things he does to the things that he says, he is perceived, by the means of literary analysis, as
a Christ figure. For one thing, Santiago is a fisherman. This is the clearest biblical allusion in the
entire novel, and it comes straight from the title itself. His endurance throughout the book also reflects
the spirit of faith that Christ had, giving us the impression that the old man might have some sort of
unspoken bond with the fish, like Christ with his strong love for humanity. The old man struggles and
even succeeds in his attempt to catch the fish, only to see it ripped and torn away from him. This is
parallel to the story of Christ, who had to bear suffering and betrayal until his death. In many senses,
Santiago s endeavor symbolizes the labor of Christ described in the Gospels. The Ichthys has its origin
from the well known miracle about how Christ fed five thousand with five small loaves and two fish .
The religious symbolism behind the Jesus Fish is reiterated a multitude of times throughout the Bible.
Several of Jesus disciples are fisherman, and He even goes as far as to tell them that he will make
them fishers of men . Further ahead, Jesus is offered grilled fish after having been resurrected. The
significance of fish in the Bible is a large one, and it s no different in The Old Man and the Sea. Most
of the novel is set in the

Who Is The Ford Mustang Commercial
Because of my love for the Ford Mustang, I chose a Ford Mustang commercial for this assignment.
The commercials premise is unsuspecting men meet a beautiful woman in a coffee shop for a blind
date, the woman purposely projects a non adventurous persona. At the conclusion of the coffee date,
the woman offers to give them a ride home in her Ford Mustang. Initially during the drive home the
woman pretends she is not familiar with driving the car, most of the men offer her instructions and one
suggests that she let him drive to show her what the car can really do. Shortly into the drive home, she
pulls into an empty parking lot and really pushes the car to the limits. She performs a multitude of
highly skilled maneuvers, burnouts, high speed stopping, drifting, etc. What all of these men did not
know is this woman is actually a professional stunt driver and is more than capable of driving this
powerful vehicle. The men s reactions were hilarious. Most of them seemed to enjoy the adrenaline
fueled ride, while others looked horrified sitting in the passenger seat. Being a bit of an adrenaline
junky myself, I really enjoyed this advertisement. I could feel my adrenaline rising as she was
performing all those high speed maneuvers. The advertisement was also very ... Show more content on

While males are the intended audience, it also appeals to females. By using the female stunt driver that
illustrated just because she is a beautiful woman, does not mean she does not know how to drive or
that she needs a man to show her. By using comedy, the creators appeal to the resistant and neutral
audience. Even if the audience were not interested in the Ford Mustang, they would watch this to see
the men s reactions. The sympathetic audience appeal was easy to obtain by the creators. Besides the
comedic values, the adrenaline charged ride and the car itself are enough to win the

Organ Donation For Organ Transplants
INTRODUCTION
Organ donation is one of the most pressing health policy issues for our government to deal with and
organ donation rates in England must increase in order to meet the demand for organs on waiting lists.
Furthermore, the demand for surgical procedures such as organ transplantation has rapidly increased
after scientific breakthroughs in transplant technologies as well as the advent of new medicines to
reduce many problems associated with transplants, thereby increasing the life expectancy of people
receiving the transplant.
With more than 7000 to 8000 people on the waiting list in England alone, on the waiting list for an
organ transplant and only an estimated 2,800 organs that are transplanted each year (NHSBT 2016),
there is a significant shortage of organs available for transplant. There is an increasing concern that the
current system for organ donation in England, is failing to meet the demand in organs needed for
transplantation. The number of people needing transplants is going up steadily by about 8 percent each
year.(b) The number of premature deaths has also increased to approximately 1000 (Rieu. 2010) every
year and this is conceivably the most tragic reminder that the current system is failing us. To combat
this problem, many health researchers have suggested changes to change the organ donation laws,
from informed consent to presumed consent.

Blackstone and the Sale of Citigroup’s Loan Portfolio Essay
HBS Project:
Blackstone and the Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio
Blackstone and The Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio
In the second half of 2007, the banking industry and financial market showed signs of considerable
stress by raising the default rate of mortgage and the decline in the value of residential mortgage
backed securities. This had led to a re pricing of many debt instruments. By the end of 2007, Citigroup
declared that the fair value of its U.S. sub prime related direct exposure could decline by 20%. This
affected Citigroup s financial results and would incur further losses in the future.
One of Citigroup s main concerns was the risk of their exposure from holding leveraged loans. Due to
the increasing risks and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is reasonable that prices will recover, which, in the long run, would benefit Blackstone.
Why is the Citigroup seeking to sell the portfolio of leveraged loan?
Citigroup s leveraged loan exposure is composed of two main risks. First, holding these leveraged
loans could be costly from a regulatory capital perspective because they hold a 100 percent risk
weight. Citigroup would need $80 million of capital for every billion dollars of leverage loan. By
selling these leveraged loans, Citigroup would reduce capital requirement. Second, a decline in the
leveraged loan index (LCDX) value from 97 cents on the dollar to 92 cents on the dollar posed a $1.5
billion loss on its leveraged loan portfolio for the fiscal year ending on December 31, 2007.
Furthermore, Citibank did not intend to hold theses loans. Like many others, Citigroup had suffered
unprecedented losses and was facing the prospect of having even more considerable losses. By selling
these loans, the bank s image was greatly improved.

Charlemagne Compare And Contrast
Charlemagne, the greatest Emperor of Western Europe. Another name for Charlemagne was Charles
the Great because of all that he offered to the Christian/western Europeans. Yes, there is a book written
to talk about his magnificent accomplishments, which is The Two Lives of Charlemagne. The book is
taken into two different accounts. It displays the writings of both authors, Einhard and Notker the
Stammer. Both writings have similarities as well as major differences. Today, I will illustrate a
comparison and contrast between the two accounts that the book was written in and how that affects
the viewpoints that the character, Charlemagne, is seen as.
Einhard was the first person to write about the life of Charlemagne. He was a member of the court as
well as a known scholar. He lived to be loyal servant to Charlemagne while living in his palace.

Einhard describes the historical context and personal experience. Einhard s version is a bias because

Charlemagne s dedicated servant so he feels compelled to say everything great about Charlemagne.
The fact that Einhard decides on which facts are important to keep and which are to be left out. For
example, when he decided to not speak about the childhood of Charlemagne. It is significant to
remember this when reading Einhard s version of the story.
The Notker had a certain vision when writing his version of the story. His main focus was on the
actions of Charlemagne towards the religious side and the treatment of the bishops. Notker felt that the
rank was not important but the religious acts and education are more important to focus on. He
described Charlemagne as strict and then goes into the kind deeds that he

Leadership Evaluation
Vizcarrondo illustrates the behavioral leadership theory. How a leader behaves is reflected in the
company s success or failure. There are two types of behaviors: attention to tasks and attention to
people. Our CEO is very task oriented, and he directs his employees work activities to reach a goal;
this describes initiating structure.
Strengths
One of Vizcarrondo s strengths is that his goal is to create a global company. He outlined his plans for
China the world s third biggest pharmaceutical market...[he] cannot create a global company without
being in Europe and in the U.S. and in Asia, particularly China (Treadgold, 2016). Planning to open
stores in China will help Sneerglaw dive deeper into the pharmaceutical market and expand. Being a
global company is ambitious, and there are many steps required to accomplish this goal. In order to do
so, each department in Sneerglaw has its duties and responsibilities. Through the hierarchy, tasks are
delegated and expected to be completed on time.
Another strength to being task oriented is following the right procedures while being strategic.

Personal Growth At My Father s Hardware Store
Spending the last two years working full time at my father s hardware store has been a period of major
personal growth for me. For the first time, I took on a serious role in the business. I was no longer the
boss son: I was tasked with trying to turn around a business that had been struggling for quite some
time. When I graduated college I knew I wanted a career as an attorney. Prior to committing myself to
law school, I wanted to gain some insight into the legal world through experience. But after six
months I was unable to find a job or internship in the legal field. One summer night over dinner, I was
updating my father on my job search and career prospect, which was difficult to admit. As supportive
as he tried to be, I could see his disappointment. He then proposed I come to work at the hardware
store and see if I could help get it back on track. He no longer had the time or energy to invest into the
business.
I didn t see how working there could be beneficial for me. But after thinking it over for several days, I
realized this might be an exciting opportunity to challenge myself. I was to assume the role of store
manager, a role that is exhausting in a small business where I would be responsible for every single
thing that goes on. I spent the first few days critically and holistically assessing the business, trying to
figure out potential causes of the business decline and how I could help improve it. I noticed how

were having problems with the society of the whites. This story was written after civil war. Where
were a group of blacks who started this society called The blue vein society . The group of people
would get to together talk about how the whites could except them and for the blacks to except them
would be a step back for them. The main character of the story is Mr. Ryder. He was in charge of the
blue vein society, and everybody in the society look up the him. In this paper I will show how the
people of the blue vein society had problems with their identities. First let me talk about the story. The
main characters where Mr. Ryder, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

say this but when you think of a black person you don t think that he or she is a doctor or lawyer. You
think that white race are more like that and the blacks are more robbers and other things like that. This
is why I feel that the blue vein society had an identity problem.

Research Paper On Pecola
Pecola is a little black ugly girl as Morrison states in the book The Bluest Eye. In Pecola s society she
s surrounded by a ridiculous amount of racism and sadness. If the people weren t light skinned they
were automatically known to have a miserable life or be unhappy. This perspective in her society
caused her to believe that the only way she will ever be beautiful if she were white and had blue eyes
like them. Pecola seeked happiness and peace within herself, but with all that negativity suffocating
her there was no way she could find it in that toxic environment. Pecola was affected tragically
because everyone saw her ugly not only because of her complexion, but also her round belly that hold
the child of her own father. The hurtful words they told Pecola based on her appearance destroyed her
completely. She couldn t see her true beauty inside of her soul. Pecola was obsessed with her Shirley
Temple tea cup because she was obsessed with the idea of american beauty . Since many people
admired this little white girl, Pecola wanted to be just like her. She wanted to feel loved and involved

Tyto Alba s Diet Analysis
Discussion:
After 24 (1992 2016) years 2,176 pellets were analysed by the students at the County College of
Morris. Additionally, on average each pellet contained 2.6 prey equating to an average of 963 prey
discovered in owl pellets per year (Table 1). After the analysis of the pellets it was discovered that the
Tyto alba consumed a wide spectrum prey, primarily rodents. A total of six prey species were
discovered. The Microtus commonly known as voles were the most abundant prey in the Tyto alba s
diet. Three thousand six hundred and twenty three remains of the Microtus were identified in pellets
that were analysed with a relative abundance of 64.2%. Microtus is most abundant in temperate and

However, there were factors that had a negative impact on the study such as the misidentification of
prey. The remains of the consumed prey were small and very fragile which made them prone to
breakage. Additionally, before the pellets were transported to the County College of Morris for
analysis, they were stored and preserved in a lab at the Carolina Biological Supply Company. This
made it difficult to figure out if the prey composite was the Tyto alba s year round diet or if the
dominant species that were consumed depended on the season. In the future the time between when
the owl pellets are gathered to when they are analyzed should be reduce to give a more accurate data

Comparing Two Fairy Stories
Title Some fairy tales end with a happy marriage to a wealthy person and living a life on a bed full of
roses. An example can be found in Beauty and the Beast. There is a young girl and her father is a
merchant. She ends up marrying the Beast, who ends up being a handsome prince, and live happily
ever after. But there are two fairy tales that are a little different. The first one is Thumbelina. She goes
through all of these obstacles to end up marrying a prince. She is gifted wings and ends up living
happily ever after. There are some fairy tales that really don t have that happy ending. The Little
Mermaid gets her heart broken due to her living in almost a completely different world than her true
love. She ends up committing suicide because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theme is shown in all the fairy tales. This is shown in Beauty and the Beast when Belle falls for a
beast who ends up having a heart of gold and later becomes a handsome prince who, before Belle
loved him, was under a curse. This theme is shown in Thumbelina when all of the guys fall in love
with her, even when being blind. The mole falls in love with her just from hearing her sing. It doesn t
matter what Thumbelina looked like. This theme is also shown in the Little Mermaid. The Little
Mermaid fell in love with someone she thought she could have. She was beautiful and wanted him.
She didn t feel her self worth was a whole lot, especially at the end, because she saw him with another
woman.
Themes of sacrifice, unconditional love and beauty not determining someone s worth were all shown
within these fairy tales. Sacrifice is shown a lot of times when there is unconditional love. Most of the
time there is unconditional love, there is also someone not determining someone s worth. Beauty and
the Beast, Thumbelina and the Little Mermaid all have overlapping themes. Most fairy tales end up
with happy marriages and living on a bed full of roses. But there are some that have very low

Essay Physician-Assisted Suicide and Free Will
Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is a topic, which proponents often support by the affirmation of
patient free will or as the exercise of patient autonomy. The purpose of this paper is to examine this
argument further from an inter disciplinary approach, regarding PAS from medical, ethical and legal
standpoints and to examine the concept of free will from the philosophical discipline. Are these
concepts compatible in a meaningful context and can a sound argument be constructed to support PAS
on the basis of patient free will?

Kass s analysis of the argument favoring PAS on the grounds of Freedom or autonomy :

Questions On Quantitative And Qualitative Research
Other Approaches to Research In the 20th century researchers developed other research designs that
draw on quantitative and qualitative elements. Mixed methods, action research, and program
evaluation follow the research design process of quantitative and qualitative research. Action research
and program evaluation however are not applied research designs.
Mixed Methods As the name implies, mixed methods research combines both quantitative and
qualitative components to add depth and breadth to the research study (Laureate Education, Inc., n.d.

Like qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research, action researchers reflect on their practice,
and then define a problem within it, gather data, review the literature, identify colleagues who will
collaborate in the action research process, carry out the action plan, analyze the data, and form
possible conclusions (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010). Multiple types of data are collected.
Researchers use a triangulation matrix to corroborate their results. Unlike applied research, action
researchers do not use complicated statistical analysis to measure quantitative data. They also do not
provide the deep level of analysis found in qualitative research. However, action researchers can and
do use descriptive statistics, coding, and triangulation to detect possible themes that emerge from the
data, thereby ensuring their results are credible and dependable (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010).
There are two types of action research: critical action research and practical action research. In critical
action research, the researcher attempts to address major societal issues, such as sexism, racism, or
other types of injustice within an educational system (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010). In contrast,
practical action research involves making changes to educational systems, but the changes are smaller

We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation
Abstract Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with its ability
providing the most up to date and newsworthy information. Considering wide use of twitter as the
source of information, reaching an interesting tweet for user among a bunch of tweets is challenging.
A huge amount of tweets sent per day by hundred millions of users, information overload is inevitable.
For extracting information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity Recognition (NER), methods on
formal texts. However, many applications in Information Retrieval (IR) and Natural Language
Processing (NLP) suffer severely from the noisy and short nature of tweets. In this paper, we propose
a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a batch mode, called HybridSeg by splitting tweets into
meaningful segments, the semantic or context information is well preserved and easily extracted by
the downstream applications. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the
sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability
of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a
phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two
models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term dependency in a batch of
tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to iteratively learn from confident segments as

The Differences Between China And Western Europe
Imagine living in America and it not being well America. There would be different ways of
agriculture. Different languages. Different religious beliefs. Having a different way of living in
society, economically and politically. Everything would be different if China would have went about
and conquered Western Europe during the 14 1500 s.
There are many things in history that can mark the milestone differences between China and Western
Europe. No one really knows when Chinese culture really began, however Chinese civilization began
near the Yellow River (Huang He) becoming North China, and Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) indicating
South China. The first Dynasty, the Xia (Hsia) Dynasty began in about 2070 or 2205 BCE. Historians
have found proof of the wheel first being used in China during this time showing urban culture did
exist. The Shang Dynasty followed introducing the first Chinese Government. A lot of the basic
Chinese culture was introduced during the Zhou (Chou) Dynasty such as the Mandate of Heaven.
China contains a lot of history throughout the years. There were battles between the states, many new
emperors and leaders, as well as new technologies. All of which brought three great Chinese

Why Is Fingerprints Important
Fingerprints are detailed, difficult to alter, and permanent over the life of a person, which makes them
suitable as a long term identifier of an individual. They also can be used to identify people who are
deceased in the aftermath of a crime. The recovery of fingerprints from a scene is an important part of
forensics in identifying a possible suspect. Blood is often found at various types of crime scenes, such
as homicide, assault, rape, robbery and burglary. Blood type can be an identifying factor to assist
investigators to narrow the search for a suspect. With DNA typing technologies, an individual
bloodstain can now be used to identify an individual of a crime or a suspect. Blood spatter can also be
used to identify which hand a person used during a stabbing, the direction of a shot and even the

Love is not love, alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove the first phrase
Love is not love, alter when it alteration finds, simply means that love is not love when it continues to
change even when one person has noticed that their beloved has changed. However, If one partner
changes, the relationship should stay the same and not be affected by an alternative individual. The
second phrase used by Shakespeare is or bends with remover to remove, this phrase basically means
that love is not love if it changes with another individual or person. In order words, love is constant
and must work with an adapting or suitable individuals
Therefore, according to my close reading analysis the poem (Sonnet 116 by Shakespeare) is a fourteen

Some of the nations that have gone through this transitions are; Canada, Germany, United States and

Industrialized countries also have the largest ecological and carbon footprint comparative to

Workplace As Part Of Continuous Improvement
Many companies have chosen to follow the route towards a 5S workplace as part of continuous
improvement. This type of system allows a company to dispose and remove unnecessary items
properly, prevent the accumulation of these items, and help decipher if these are costs that need to be
rid of. Costs tend to pile up on businesses and companies in the form of wastes and defects. Some
situations that are an example of this are utilization suffering because item changeovers take too long,
product is rushed in because an important part cannot be found, and output not meeting its full
potential because of crew to crew variations (Bresko 2014). Many companies attempt to advance
through Six Sigma, Lean, or other initiatives. However, some studies have been reported that two
thirds of other initiatives fail to meet the expectations of the organization leaders (Ghodrati and
Zulkifli 2013). Learning about the certain methods of the different systems is not the issue when
putting these into play, but putting them into their daily organizational actions is. Some of these
situations where they fail to put these into play is process improvement, continuous improvement, and
the procedures of the initiatives not being long standing. The process of 5S is a great way to add to
culture change and to involve people. 5S is aimed to simplify larger productivity, quality, and safety
measures. It is also very visual in the aspects of organization, cleanliness, and planning. It is a base for

Origin Of Successful Enterprises Can Be Observed Among...
Q5: What kinds of successful enterprises can be observed among China born immigrants in the GTA,
and how can these enterprises be described? The types of effective businesses in the study that could
be observed among China born immigrants in the GTA were skilled, specialized or useful and
functional personal or home related services and businesses. For instances, the practical and skillful of
HAC home services, real estate brokerage, fast printing of Chinese business cards and fast food
advertisings, accounting consulting, dating services, immigration consulting, Chinese supermarket,
and hair salon. These businesses or services in the study were realistic, workable and valuable to most
homes and households or personal applications in GTA. Implication of this finding was that most of
these first generation China born entrepreneur immigrants enterprises were small family business or
personal skilled trades. They focused on practical and useful home or household and personal
businesses which were tied to the challenges of raising funds for startup. These China born
immigrants were new and first generation immigrants in Canada, and they had no families, relatives or
networks in GTA (Guo, 2013; P. Li Li, 2013). As the first generation immigrant entrepreneurs with
limited networks and resource, China born immigrant entrepreneur raised their capital for startup
merely from their personal savings or family loans (Azmat, 2013; Guo, 2013). The study findings

The Russian Mafia Essay
The Russian Mafia
The Russian Mafia: Protectionism in the New Capitalist Russia The Russian Mafia has always
exercised an important role in the Russian economy. The contemporary mafiosi are descendents of the
seventeenth Century highwaymen and Cossack robbers. These men occasionally murdered families
prior to raids preventing them from being captured. The Russia mafiosi made a point to remain aloof
from the state. Mob men were actually spurned when returning home from fighting in the Great
Patriotic War. The gangs begin to dominate markets such as car sales, spare parts, cigarettes, food
distribution, and other markets that the Communist Party failed to provide under the Bolsheviks
(Remnick196). Since the collapse of Communism and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most entrepreneurs purchase the protection. Then the new company pays unofficial taxes to crime
groups. This guarantees that nearly all new businesses will have an affiliation with the mafia.
Gustatson estimates that payments can are approximately twenty percent of the profit (105). This is a
major form of taxation on top of what the government already commands leading many companies to
tax evasion or concealing their exact value. These acts forfeit what little protection the authorities
might be able to render. The mafia demands a cut of the earnings but in turn furnish more than
adequate security. The mafiosi provides protection from unaffiliated criminals and rival gangs. They
ensure that property is not damaged or stolen. If entrepreneurs are visited by another organization,
they must only summon their own mafia group. The two gangs will settle the matter themselves
(Gustatson 105). This security is an asset that the State seemingly fails to provide. The Russian Mafia
has more men and weapons than the Russian law enforcement. The police force is an intently corrupt
place as is much of the Russian government. Both army officers and law enforcers are frantic for cash
and willing to sell weapons such as guns, grenades, and rocket launchers (Remnick 109). The Russian
Mafia is able to easily locate weaponry to carry out its duties as protectorate; while, the

Christine Pelton Summary
Christine Pelton, a biology instructor in Piper, Kansas, is not a hero in my opinion. As I understand the
story, this teacher has a little more than one hundred and forty biology students. It was stated in the
article that, Nearly one fifth of her biology students had plagiarized... Twenty eight of her students
plagiarized on a final exam. This teacher quit after the school board did not allow her to fail these
twenty eight students. Is this a wake up call to society about the low tolerance of cheating? Is
resigning appropriate for the situation in place? Is cheating acceptable to a certain extent or should
there be a zero tolerance? Thinking through this article, I have two major thoughts. First, in the
students minds, product is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The schooling system is broken when it comes to whether students think learning the content or
receiving a grade is more important. I was talking to my father about this article, and he brought up an
advanced English class at the college he attended. The students who were eligible to take this class
were the most talented and the highest in their class. The professor was presented with a problem. He
did not feel settled grading these talented students in his class according to the bell curve college
classes commonly use. He did not feel right handing out Cs and Bs to these A students. Instead of
grading the students on the curve, the professor gave every kid in the class an A, and turned in their
final grades on the first day. He expected all of the students to show interest, give maximal effort, and
contribute to the class. He understood that they were all talented enough to receive an A. The
professor eliminated any stress a grade would bring to these students, and he allowed them to fully
focus on learning. I understand that a teacher cannot do that in a high school biology class, but there
are ways to prevent cheating and engage learning. This biology teacher may not feel right in allowing
these twenty eight kids to pass, but I believe that she should feel obligated in her heart to stay and
prevent this from happening again. School is about learning about oneself and growing as a person;
school is not about earning a grade and learning biology. This teacher needs to help kids learn about
what is the right thing to do before twenty eight of them

Sphere Of Influence Analysis
The Sphere of Influence is located in Rossland, BC, a strong biking community in the West Kootenay.
The sphere was made in 2014 and was first installed in April 2015 by the community local Arts and
Culture Council. It is created using old collected bike wheels, spokes, and gears. The wheels are
pieced together to form a complete bubble, towering as high as the buildings surrounding it. Each
piece of the sculpture is moulded together and has rusted over time. None of the wheels are bent, but
instead fit together, matching the rims to make a sphere. It stands connected to a rusted metal semi
sphere cage that is bolted to a cement platform. There are all different sorts of bike wheels that make
up this sculpture, some are colourful and from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sculpture has a rustic quality, and draws one s eye to it because of its large scale. The art brings a
purpose and beautifies a long time empty property between two local businesses. It resides next to a
sidewalk outside of the local bike shop, brewery, and Laundromat. Next to the Sphere of Influence is a
sign picketed that states Art is for admiring, mountains are for climbing, which mean please do not
climb on the sculpture. This is significant because when I stood admiring the statue a little boy ran up
and started hanging off the wheels and poking his head into the centre of the sphere. Because the artist
used bike wheels as the main medium the Sphere of Influence may influence one to enjoy biking.
Arco Bears by John Mckinnon is a sculpture of two black identical bears. One bear is placed aloft the
other balancing on its pals paws while the bear on the bottom balances on its back with his head off
reaching. The bears are located in Rossland, BC in the West Kootenays. They make an echoing sound
when knocked on meaning that they are hollow. John Mckinnon uses welded steel and bronze to
create Arco Bears . They both have round bellies, like they ve eaten all of the neighbors

Rabies
(Are we living in a world of rabies?)
When I began my research on the rabies virus I couldn t help but think how it sounded so much like
what we see zombies portrayed as in the entertainment world. As I share my research, I would like
you to ask yourself are we on the edge of an antigenic variation of rabies zombie virus?
The name of the rabies virus is the Lyssavirus this is derived from Lyssa the Greek goddess of rage,
madness, and fury; along with the features of a virus. The most common transmission is though a bite
of an animal that is infected, via the infected saliva making contact with a mucous membrane. Though
not common it is reported that infection has happened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

thermophobia (feat of heat), hydrophobia (drinking water becomes increasingly harder, and when you
drink your throat and diaphragm go into spasm) insomnia, partial paralysis; altering periods of mental
clarity with sever anxiety, followed by confusion, hallucinations, and delusions. The second type of
rabies is a more rare case called dumb rabies lasting only three to four days, host becomes
progressively paralyzed to the point where the heart and lungs begin to stop working. * put

Elephant Slaughter In this lesson we watched a video about elephant slaughter and how people sale
the Ivory illegally, and for a high price. Ivory is not only beautiful in its own nature but it is very
expensive. But unfortunately if we don t stop killing elephants for their ivory they will be extinct in
the next 10 years. We also read an article about the same topic, each one has different information
about the same topic. The video helps you visualize the article, and the article gives you more
information about the video. Multimedia has both pros and cons but both have all the information on
the topic. There are advantages and disadvantage to both the video and article. The advantages of the

The Relationship Between Music And Society
The relationship between music and society is an exceptionally powerful and crucial one. In some
cases, this relationship is viewed as one that is harmonious and beneficial to large communities of
people. However, that exact relationship could also be scrutinized as one that is extremely discordant
to other communities. Green Day happens to fall precisely in the middle of that musical spectrum,
depending on who is asked. Regardless of opinion, songs are much more than just music and are
essentially retained as pieces of history. These songs help showcase the trends, behaviors, and even
struggles of different time periods. With that being said, one may ask What all did the musical group
Green Day contribute to society? . Green Day is a pop punk/alternative rock band formed in 1986. The
band consists of three members: Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer), Mike Dirnt (bass and backing
vocals), and Tré Cool (drums and percussion). The band known as Green Day originally formed in
Berkeley, California by Armstrong and Dirnt, and was initially titled Sweet Children. The two were
only fourteen years old at the time they founded their band. In 1988, Lookout! Records owner, Larry
Livermore, signed a deal with the group to be part of his label. Shortly after being signed, the band s
name was changed to Green Day as a result of Armstrong s and Dirnt s love for marijuana (also to
prevent confusion with another west coast pop punk band, Sweet Baby). Despite a couple minor EP
releases and

  • 2. Spencer Pote s Major Accomplishments It s a joke about the letters in DNA; like, it s A, C, T and G, and they made every CAT into a cat head. The first thing you notice in Spencer Pote s office is the giant fluorescent colored poster on his desk; it contrasts heavily with the dark brown of the wood and the grays of the carpet and cabinets. I m a big fan of cats. I ve had them since I was a baby, and I m going to have them until I die. If someone didn t know who Spencer Pote was, they would probably assume he was a quirky high school teacher. All information that Genéticus distributes is bilingual, and there is no fee for an initial consultation with a geneticist. The main goal of Genéticus is to remove the risk of devastating genetic diseases in the embryo of Hispanic children through genetic engineering. However, the biggest achievement that Pote himself created was his work in epigenetics and the demethylation of genes in embryos. During intensely stressful times, the levels of cortisol will increase within an individual. When this occurs, methyl groups simultaneously accumulate on the genes responsible for the cortisol production, making it easier for RNA transcribe the gene by loosening the DNA s coil. • 4. Target Unncryption Case Study Several organizations that have faced recent major breaches use encryption strategies. Unfortunately, encryption is frequently not applied and used properly. A strong security strategy is needed which keeps entire systems in a comprehensive way in order for encryption to be successful. For instance, an encryption process and large key may become useless if the encryption key is collected with the data. The cybercriminals will simply gain access to the system and use the key to unencrypt the data (Ferguson, Schneieir, Tadayoshi, 2010, p. 12). For encryption to be operative, company must use a defense in depth strategy in which you also keep the key and protect access to systems where the data needs to be unencrypted in order to be managed. Target allegedly paid a great deal of money on security technology (Capacio, 2014). Although systems used encryption, the encryption was incompetent because the data was retrieved in memory where it was unencrypted. Though some level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although many security procedures were in place throughout the Target organization, extra layers of protection would have blocked the attack at many points along the way. Using a stronger Defense in Depth strategy would have guaranteed that each level was not reachable from the next. Furthermore, protections on the POS system itself could have added extra security to the data. Polanski s goal is to emphasizes the meaning of how cinematography is made, and how it inspires by understanding the concept of setting, lighting, and how the image is captured. This film was released in 1974 by director of Roman Polanski to focus on private investigator J.J. Gittes, played by Jack Nicholson to investigate the elements behind the truth. Polanski s goal is to emphasize the audience to give an ominous feeling of the main character, J.J. Gittes and his point of view by showing in color instead of black and white pictures. Due to these reasons, Polanski wanted to use Panavision to give a flawed vision about the past, which the story is set in the years of 1937. Polanski states, a traditional detective story with a new, modern shape for Paramount picture. • 7. Summary Of Chapter Twelve Of The Omnivore s Dilemma Reading Summary/Discussion Questions #3 This past week of class we were to read chapters ten through fourteen of The Omnivore s Dilemma. This week s readings were really a mix of different things, but it was a more behind the scenes look at what happens on a farm. I found it all very interesting, as I have this entire book, because often times I do not know what all goes into farming and it was interesting to see how it traveled from Polyface Farms to the market to a meal. In chapters ten and eleven, Pollan continues to observe Salatin s Polyface Farm where he focuses on his agricultural practice. In chapter thirteen, Pollan views how Salatin sells his food and his beliefs behind agriculture. Finally, chapter twelve deals with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the contrary, the U.S. Department of Agriculture believes in fence to fence sowing, so there are really no trees. Pollan points out that this type of agriculture has many problems and many of these lead to disease. Unfortunately, this agriculture has been stripped of its wisdom and intelligence. Even Salatin points out that rural schools encourage the smarter ones to go to college and the low scoring students stay behind to help on the farm. Basically, it s a foolish culture that entrusts its food supply to simpletons (Pollan 221). Coming from a rural school, I see this being true, but I also have to disagree with Salatin because they may not be the smartest, but they sure do know a lot about corn. The second section to be reviewed is chapter thirteen. In this chapter, Pollan sees how Salatin sells his food and how it compares to other supermarkets. Compared to other supermarkets, Polyface Farm s food is more expensive; however, Salatin argues that it is actually, if fact, cheaper. He believes that because it is produced without subsidies and it is more sustainable compared to industrial food. Consumers also have a reason for choosing Salatin s food over other supermarkets. They believe that his chicken tastes better and would rather pay for quality, which it seems many people do not want to do today. Rappers Vs Griots Many argue that the past griot s and the rappers of today in Africa, are as different as an apple and orange. *You have those who believe the foundation of both practices are one hundred percent different. Everything that makes a griot who they are, is completely the opposite of what shapes an African rapper. *On contrast, there are also those who presume that the message and way of execution are the same for both lyracis. *The belief that the two are different, mostly comes from those of older age, or who have a lineage of griots that backtrack throughout the years. *While those who believe the opposite, are of younger age and have more modern day experiences. So although socially, the African griot and rapper are on two different platforms, the message and ways of expression are tantamount, however, the fundamentals are contrasting. • 10. The Characteristics Of A True Hero In Beowulf Even though a hero is one who laughs in the presence of evil. One who is brave, confident, and always is there for his people in there time of need. Beowulf, in my opinion, displayed a few of the characteristics of a hero. True he was brave and adventurous, however, he was selfish because he did all of his heroic events in order to show his greatness. For example, in the battle against Grendel, he was willing to risk his life by fighting without weapons to show his might. A real hero would not foolishly unarm himself only to prove his strength. Beowulf, however, did show great bravery and good judgment during his battle against the dragon, even though it was there that he met his demise. He rose to the challenge to protect his kingdom and did in fact, with a little help, do just that.Although foolish, He never once feared for his life as was quick to take on any challenge. In conclusion, besides his arrogance, Beowulf is a good example of a true hero. , Throughout Beowulf, Grendel is described as mankind s enemy, and his attacks are driven by the jealousy that humans are able to enjoy life in the light, and he is condemned to misery in the darkness. It s not just Grendel s ancestry that makes him evil; Grendel s actions are evil as well. because I have wrested the hilt from the enemies hand, avenged the evil done to the Danes; it is what was due. • 11. Prejudice In John Carreon s A Class Divided Juan Carreon A Class Divided This documentary was about how it feels to be discriminated upon and how it can be influenced in small children easily. Discrimination creates a barrier in the mind. For this reason, the barriers created by the prejudice are hard to overcome. In light to this, Elliott segregates her class according to eye color whereby brown eyes are perceived to be superior to the blue eyed people. On the first day, the brown eyed pupils were provided with privileges (A Class Divided). They were allowed to have help at lunch, extra time at recess and a sense of self worth above the blue eyed students. However, on the On the following day (not next) the situation is reversed and the blue eyed pupils are indulged with privilege which results to making brown eyed pupils feel less special compared with their peers. Elliott takes the opportunity to observe her class turning into a microcosm of society. Surprisingly, every time the experiment was carried out, the preferred group quickly turned the tables and embraced elite status. This implies that the two groups readily adopted the propaganda that Elliott sprouted on them (A Class Divided). The two created groups readily adopted their roles to perfection. I particularly agree with Elliot that racism is propaganda built on the people s mind that may not be easy to overcome. A keen observation of the experiment shows that both parties assumed their roles once they were empowered to operate. In real life situation, the wealthy and the have not are improvised environments. The environment is either improvised by the politicians, economists, capitalists or psychologists. A typical example is the African American relationship that has existed for many years. However, no single relationship exists between the skin color and a person capability to carry out an exercise. In the last American presidential election, President Barrack Obama managed to gain the presidency despite being of African American. More so, the first renowned neurosurgeon across the globe is Ben Carson. These individuals, in particular are enough evidence to disapprove the Elliott idea of discrimination (A Class Divided). • 12. Christ And The Sea Christ and the Sea Santiago is an old fisherman from Cuba. He s a man who doesn t have much, except for a strong will. From the things he does to the things that he says, he is perceived, by the means of literary analysis, as a Christ figure. For one thing, Santiago is a fisherman. This is the clearest biblical allusion in the entire novel, and it comes straight from the title itself. His endurance throughout the book also reflects the spirit of faith that Christ had, giving us the impression that the old man might have some sort of unspoken bond with the fish, like Christ with his strong love for humanity. The old man struggles and even succeeds in his attempt to catch the fish, only to see it ripped and torn away from him. This is parallel to the story of Christ, who had to bear suffering and betrayal until his death. In many senses, Santiago s endeavor symbolizes the labor of Christ described in the Gospels. The Ichthys has its origin from the well known miracle about how Christ fed five thousand with five small loaves and two fish . The religious symbolism behind the Jesus Fish is reiterated a multitude of times throughout the Bible. Several of Jesus disciples are fisherman, and He even goes as far as to tell them that he will make them fishers of men . Further ahead, Jesus is offered grilled fish after having been resurrected. The significance of fish in the Bible is a large one, and it s no different in The Old Man and the Sea. Most of the novel is set in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The commercials premise is unsuspecting men meet a beautiful woman in a coffee shop for a blind date, the woman purposely projects a non adventurous persona. Initially during the drive home the woman pretends she is not familiar with driving the car, most of the men offer her instructions and one suggests that she let him drive to show her what the car can really do. Shortly into the drive home, she pulls into an empty parking lot and really pushes the car to the limits. She performs a multitude of highly skilled maneuvers, burnouts, high speed stopping, drifting, etc. What all of these men did not know is this woman is actually a professional stunt driver and is more than capable of driving this powerful vehicle. The men s reactions were hilarious. Most of them seemed to enjoy the adrenaline fueled ride, while others looked horrified sitting in the passenger seat. • 14. Organ Donation For Organ Transplants INTRODUCTION Organ donation is one of the most pressing health policy issues for our government to deal with and organ donation rates in England must increase in order to meet the demand for organs on waiting lists. Furthermore, the demand for surgical procedures such as organ transplantation has rapidly increased after scientific breakthroughs in transplant technologies as well as the advent of new medicines to reduce many problems associated with transplants, thereby increasing the life expectancy of people receiving the transplant. With more than 7000 to 8000 people on the waiting list in England alone, on the waiting list for an organ transplant and only an estimated 2,800 organs that are transplanted each year (NHSBT 2016), there is a significant shortage of organs available for transplant. There is an increasing concern that the current system for organ donation in England, is failing to meet the demand in organs needed for transplantation. The number of people needing transplants is going up steadily by about 8 percent each year.(b) The number of premature deaths has also increased to approximately 1000 (Rieu. 2010) every year and this is conceivably the most tragic reminder that the current system is failing us. To combat this problem, many health researchers have suggested changes to change the organ donation laws, from informed consent to presumed consent. Why is the Citigroup seeking to sell the portfolio of leveraged loan? Citigroup s leveraged loan exposure is composed of two main risks. First, holding these leveraged loans could be costly from a regulatory capital perspective because they hold a 100 percent risk weight. Citigroup would need $80 million of capital for every billion dollars of leverage loan. By selling these leveraged loans, Citigroup would reduce capital requirement. Second, a decline in the leveraged loan index (LCDX) value from 97 cents on the dollar to 92 cents on the dollar posed a $1.5 billion loss on its leveraged loan portfolio for the fiscal year ending on December 31, 2007. Furthermore, Citibank did not intend to hold theses loans. Like many others, Citigroup had suffered unprecedented losses and was facing the prospect of having even more considerable losses. How a leader behaves is reflected in the company s success or failure. There are two types of behaviors: attention to tasks and attention to people. • 21. Personal Growth At My Father s Hardware Store Spending the last two years working full time at my father s hardware store has been a period of major personal growth for me. For the first time, I took on a serious role in the business. I was no longer the boss son: I was tasked with trying to turn around a business that had been struggling for quite some time. When I graduated college I knew I wanted a career as an attorney. Prior to committing myself to law school, I wanted to gain some insight into the legal world through experience. But after six months I was unable to find a job or internship in the legal field. One summer night over dinner, I was updating my father on my job search and career prospect, which was difficult to admit. As supportive as he tried to be, I could see his disappointment. He then proposed I come to work at the hardware store and see if I could help get it back on track. He no longer had the time or energy to invest into the business. I didn t see how working there could be beneficial for me. But after thinking it over for several days, I realized this might be an exciting opportunity to challenge myself. I was to assume the role of store manager, a role that is exhausting in a small business where I would be responsible for every single thing that goes on. I spent the first few days critically and holistically assessing the business, trying to figure out potential causes of the business decline and how I could help improve it. We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation Abstract Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with its ability providing the most up to date and newsworthy information. A huge amount of tweets sent per day by hundred millions of users, information overload is inevitable. For extracting information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity Recognition (NER), methods on formal texts. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to iteratively learn from confident segments as pseudo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Workplace As Part Of Continuous Improvement Many companies have chosen to follow the route towards a 5S workplace as part of continuous improvement. This type of system allows a company to dispose and remove unnecessary items properly, prevent the accumulation of these items, and help decipher if these are costs that need to be rid of. Costs tend to pile up on businesses and companies in the form of wastes and defects. Some situations that are an example of this are utilization suffering because item changeovers take too long, product is rushed in because an important part cannot be found, and output not meeting its full potential because of crew to crew variations (Bresko 2014). Many companies attempt to advance through Six Sigma, Lean, or other initiatives. However, some studies have been reported that two thirds of other initiatives fail to meet the expectations of the organization leaders (Ghodrati and Zulkifli 2013). Learning about the certain methods of the different systems is not the issue when putting these into play, but putting them into their daily organizational actions is. Some of these situations where they fail to put these into play is process improvement, continuous improvement, and the procedures of the initiatives not being long standing. The process of 5S is a great way to add to culture change and to involve people. 5S is aimed to simplify larger productivity, quality, and safety measures. The contemporary mafiosi are descendents of the seventeenth Century highwaymen and Cossack robbers. These men occasionally murdered families prior to raids preventing them from being captured. The Russia mafiosi made a point to remain aloof from the state. Mob men were actually spurned when returning home from fighting in the Great Patriotic War. The gangs begin to dominate markets such as car sales, spare parts, cigarettes, food distribution, and other markets that the Communist Party failed to provide under the Bolsheviks (Remnick196). This guarantees that nearly all new businesses will have an affiliation with the mafia. Gustatson estimates that payments can are approximately twenty percent of the profit (105). This is a major form of taxation on top of what the government already commands leading many companies to tax evasion or concealing their exact value. These acts forfeit what little protection the authorities might be able to render. The mafia demands a cut of the earnings but in turn furnish more than adequate security. The mafiosi provides protection from unaffiliated criminals and rival gangs. They ensure that property is not damaged or stolen. If entrepreneurs are visited by another organization, they must only summon their own mafia group. The two gangs will settle the matter themselves (Gustatson 105). This security is an asset that the State seemingly fails to provide. The Russian Mafia has more men and weapons than the Russian law enforcement. The police force is an intently corrupt place as is much of the Russian government. • 47. Christine Pelton Summary Christine Pelton, a biology instructor in Piper, Kansas, is not a hero in my opinion. As I understand the story, this teacher has a little more than one hundred and forty biology students. It was stated in the article that, Nearly one fifth of her biology students had plagiarized... Twenty eight of her students plagiarized on a final exam. This teacher quit after the school board did not allow her to fail these twenty eight students. Is this a wake up call to society about the low tolerance of cheating? Is resigning appropriate for the situation in place? Is cheating acceptable to a certain extent or should there be a zero tolerance? Thinking through this article, I have two major thoughts. First, in the students minds, product is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The schooling system is broken when it comes to whether students think learning the content or receiving a grade is more important. I was talking to my father about this article, and he brought up an advanced English class at the college he attended. The students who were eligible to take this class were the most talented and the highest in their class. The professor was presented with a problem. He did not feel settled grading these talented students in his class according to the bell curve college classes commonly use. He did not feel right handing out Cs and Bs to these A students. Instead of grading the students on the curve, the professor gave every kid in the class an A, and turned in their final grades on the first day. He expected all of the students to show interest, give maximal effort, and contribute to the class. He understood that they were all talented enough to receive an A. The professor eliminated any stress a grade would bring to these students, and he allowed them to fully focus on learning. I understand that a teacher cannot do that in a high school biology class, but there are ways to prevent cheating and engage learning. This biology teacher may not feel right in allowing these twenty eight kids to pass, but I believe that she should feel obligated in her heart to stay and prevent this from happening again. School is about learning about oneself and growing as a person; school is not about earning a grade and learning biology. This teacher needs to help kids learn about what is the right thing to do before twenty eight of them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sphere was made in 2014 and was first installed in April 2015 by the community local Arts and Culture Council. It is created using old collected bike wheels, spokes, and gears. The wheels are pieced together to form a complete bubble, towering as high as the buildings surrounding it. Each piece of the sculpture is moulded together and has rusted over time. None of the wheels are bent, but instead fit together, matching the rims to make a sphere. It stands connected to a rusted metal semi sphere cage that is bolted to a cement platform. The sculpture has a rustic quality, and draws one s eye to it because of its large scale. The art brings a purpose and beautifies a long time empty property between two local businesses. Next to the Sphere of Influence is a sign picketed that states Art is for admiring, mountains are for climbing, which mean please do not climb on the sculpture. This is significant because when I stood admiring the statue a little boy ran up and started hanging off the wheels and poking his head into the centre of the sphere. Because the artist used bike wheels as the main medium the Sphere of Influence may influence one to enjoy biking. Arco Bears by John Mckinnon is a sculpture of two black identical bears. • 51. The Relationship Between Music And Society The relationship between music and society is an exceptionally powerful and crucial one. In some cases, this relationship is viewed as one that is harmonious and beneficial to large communities of people. However, that exact relationship could also be scrutinized as one that is extremely discordant to other communities. Green Day happens to fall precisely in the middle of that musical spectrum, depending on who is asked. Regardless of opinion, songs are much more than just music and are essentially retained as pieces of history. These songs help showcase the trends, behaviors, and even struggles of different time periods. With that being said, one may ask What all did the musical group Green Day contribute to society? . Green Day is a pop punk/alternative rock band formed in 1986. The band consists of three members: Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer), Mike Dirnt (bass and backing vocals), and Tré Cool (drums and percussion). The band known as Green Day originally formed in Berkeley, California by Armstrong and Dirnt, and was initially titled Sweet Children. The two were only fourteen years old at the time they founded their band. In 1988, Lookout! Records owner, Larry Livermore, signed a deal with the group to be part of his label. Shortly after being signed, the band s name was changed to Green Day as a result of Armstrong s and Dirnt s love for marijuana (also to prevent confusion with another west coast pop punk band, Sweet Baby).
