This Way For The Gas Ladies And Gentlemen Analysis
In the documentary This Way for the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen, Tadeusz Borowski gathers multiple
different experiences whether it was directly or indirectly of the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a
genocide in which Adolf Hitler Nazi s Germany and its collaborators during World War II killed six
million jews. One of the most important aspects of this autobiography is the identification of the
author as actually the main character. He is one of the prisoners at the concentration camp in
Auschwitz where numerous jews are being exterminated. He had to learn how to accept this style of
living to make it home , even though he was not Jewish.
The narrator sets the scene of the concentration camp with the barbed wire, people emerging from
cattle cars

Oxidative Stress Lab Report
Biochemistry of Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress
The research was done by Sabry M. El Bahr at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine, P.O. Box 22758, Alexandria University, Egypt. The overall purpose of this experiment was
to study the causes of oxidative stress that is caused by free radical. It is known that the free radicals
and the Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are used interchangeably. ROS can damage DNA,
biomembrane lipids, proteins and other macromolecules. The primary source of ROS is the leakage of
electron from the respiratory chain during the reduction of molecular oxygen to water generating
superoxide anion. The classification of ROS includes oxygen centered radicals and oxygen centered
non radicals. Moreover, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The system can take care of those reactive oxygen species, some of them are enzymes, including
glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase which are the most major antioxidant
enzymes that are capable to minimize oxidative stress in the organelles, and some are non enzyme
antioxidants such as glutathione, selenium, vitamin C and E. Oxidative stress is when the balance is in
favor of oxidase, so when the antioxidants systems in the cell cannot keep up, something gets out of
whack and things start to come oxidized. This can happen in a lot of ways, we have endogenous
sources of ROS; things that are happening in the cell like aerobic cellular respiration where the ROS
are being produced as a result of some byproduct or some cellular process that supposed to be
occurring like electron transport in cellular respiration or breaking down fatty acid and peroxisome.
In this study, scientist found that there are levels of free radicals reactivity of the compounds that are
being produced in the cell; some with least reactivity such as H2O2, and some are highly reactive such
as OH. The free radicals can affect the cell negatively. One of the element that generates free radicals
and causes oxidative stress is cadmium. It increases lipid peroxidation and/or changes intracellular
glutathione levels. However, investigators found that some plants such as curcumin is a natural drug
that works

Adah s Death
Devin O Donnell
Emily Dickinson (page 365): Because I could not stop for Death
The title of Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I could not stop for Death , helps characterize Adah.
She was left behind, forgotten in a sense, and trampled when ants swarmed and took over the village.
Orleanna, her own mother, didn t save her. But instead of citing Adah s disabilities as the reason for
not saving her, she instead tells Ruth May, the youngest of the four daughters and was saved by
Orleanna, that she was saved over Adah because she was the younger of the two. Adah fought with all
she could to make it to safety, and was saved by Anatole. When she moved, with Orleanna, back to the
United States and went to college, her old, crippled self, died, ... Show more content on

The completion of this section marks the beginning of the Price girls hope in going home. This also
marks the point when the Price family s life starts to go downhill and builds up to the most tragic
event of when they are in the Congo. This poem helps characterize Orleanna. At first she has hope in
Nathan that he will help convert the village people, baptize them, and have them become part of his
congregation. Orleanna progressively loses faith in him as the story goes on, and after the
Underdowns advise them to leave (and Nathan states his desire to stay) she starts to speak out against
him. This Emily Dickinson passage also characterizes Leah as she begins to truly see her father s
character, and loses hope that he is able to protect them, a feeling that she previously held. Leah also
stops wanting shadow him because she sees that he isn t the godly, perfect father she thought he

Five Factor Model Personality Inventory
1. Use the Five Factor Model Personality Inventory to rate yourself on the Big Five personality
dimensions. Describe each factor of your Big Five Personality Inventory. Which factor shows the
greatest value in predicting your behavior? Why does it? Select one of your friends. Identify the
qualities that make that person substantially different from you. In what ways are you basically
similar? Which dominates, the differences or similarities? You must attach the Five Factor Model
Personality Inventory together with your answers.
Answer: The Big Five Personality is broad categories of personality traits. While there is a significant
body of literature supporting this five factor model of personality, researchers don t ... Show more

People with this personality will not easily get disturbed , will not get stressed out easily whenever
he/she are facing problem and would not worry about things. He/she will have a positive thinking and
try to solve the problem with the easy way. On the other hand, those who score low in emotional
stability means that he/she is emotional instability or sometimes call neuroticism. They are more likely
to interpret ordinary situations as threatening, and minor frustrations as hopelessly difficult. Their
negative emotional reactions tend to persist for unusually long periods of time, which means they are
often in a bad mood. These problems in emotional regulation can diminish the ability of a person
scoring high on neuroticism to think clearly, make decisions, and cope effectively with stress.
Openness to experience is used to describe human personality. Openness involves active imagination,
aesthetic sensitivity, attentiveness to inner feelings, preference for variety, and intellectual curiosity. A
great deal of psychometric research has demonstrated that these qualities are statistically correlated.
Thus, openness can be viewed as a global personality trait consisting of a set of specific traits, habits,
and tendencies that cluster together. Openness is associated with tolerance of ambiguity (which means
when something is not clear), a capacity to absorb information, being very focused and the

Peter Paul Rubens The Consequences Of War
In 1638, Peter Paul Rubens painted The Consequences of War as an allegory for the mood in Europe
towards the Thirty Years War. The Thirty Years War was a series of wars throughout Europe that
decimated cities and cultures. The wars were mainly due to a feud between Protestants and Catholics
after the Counter Reformation. The wars began in 1618 and lasted until 1648, so Rubens work of art,
The Consequences of War, couldn t have come at a more powerful or influential time. Furthermore,
Flanders, the location where Rubens lived at the time, was in the midst of the war. Flanders was its
own army at the time, and there were numerous horrific battles in the area, which brought out chaos
amongst the Flanders citizens. Everyone was frightened for their ... Show more content on

It is around 6 feet tall and 12 feet long which makes some of the more prominent figures around 5 feet
tall. The mood created and the size are two very Baroque aspects that Rubens includes in order to
make the viewer feel connected to the work of art more. Additionally, each figure tells their own story,
but each of their individual stories adds to the overall theme. First, there is a woman figure on the far
left who is a personified version of Europe. The woman is in despair, flailing her arms up, and has
tears in her eyes. This represents the mood of all the European citizens throughout the Thirty Years
War, and if a viewer looks at her they would feel connected on an emotional level. Next, there is
Venus who is desperately trying to hold back her lover Mars from inevitably going to war. Venus is
portrayed as a beautiful, nearly nude figure who is highlighted with lots of light. Rubens includes lots
of diagonals to show movement in the image, and to show how the story being told is not over another
very Baroque characteristic. Another crucial figure is Mars, the God of War. Mars is headed off to war,
being pulled by Fury

The Great Chicago Fire By Robert Cromie
The Great Chicago Fire was a historical narrative written by Robert Cromie in 1958, a little less than
100 years after the fire took place. Robert Cromie had many accomplishments to be proud of, since he
was a war correspondent, a sports journalist, a columnist, a book editor/author, and a radio and
television host. His radio and television shows were about books and authors, and they gained him
numerous writing and broadcasting awards. In 1936, he joined the Chicago Tribune staff as a writer
(Struzzi). It was from there that Cromie gained a love for journalism and interviewing people. He even
wrote for several national magazines, one of them being the Saturday Evening Post. Cromie wrote
three books; The Great Chicago Fire, Dillinger: A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book first starts off by describing the current state of Chicago in 1871. Chicago was extremely
dry during that year and in fact, many fires had occurred recently in the Windy City before the Great
Chicago Fire. Cromie describes the city as an enormous artificial forest, drying out in a sun heated
oven (pg 9), since almost everything was made out of wood, from the pine block paving, to fences of
pine, to wooden roofs. Chicago also was filled with warehouses with wooden shelves, lumber mills,
and paint and varnish shops that contained inflammable items. On page 11, Cromie stated that,
Chicago specialized in the production, handling, and storage of combustible goods . All this
information showed how easily a fire could spread; Chicago was almost asking for a terrible fire to
happen. The cause of the fire is still uncertain today, but it has been speculated about by many
researchers. Cromie chose to write about the legend of Mrs. O Learys cow. Although Mrs. O Leary
denied any accusations towards her, many people still blamed her cow, who could have knocked over
a gas lantern inside a wooden shed near her house. On October 8, 1871 the flame started somewhere
near the O Learys house, and the Great Chicago Fire began and spread rapidly. There were many
firefighters that were on call that October night, but all their efforts were

Attitudes to War in Dulce et Decorum est and Drummer...
Attitudes to War in Dulce et Decorum est and Drummer Hodge. Life wasn t easy for soldiers in the
war as Wilfred Owen and Thomas Hardy express strongly in their legendary poems Dulce et Decorum
est and Drummer Hodge . Peter Porter writes about the situation people may find themselves in when
in, his poem Your Attention Please , he describes an announcement concerning a nuclear Rocket
Strike. Wilfred Owen died at the age of 25 and was killed seven days before the end of World War 1.
He is regarded as one of the most well known war poets of the 20th Century, having written an

The second line brings in the aural aspects of suffering by using words like coughing and cursed . We
cursed through sludge shows the intense deepness of the mud, which weakens the men and causes
them to swear. Owen tries to make the readers feel pity for the men and does this extremely well by
saying All went lame, all blind . This gives us the image that men couldn t see or hear correctly. He
uses the metaphor Drunk with fatigue to illustrate the tiredness of the men. Stanza one ends on a note
of warning; the danger of which the soldiers are unaware, as they can t hear properly. The first and
second verses are all to do with the visual and oral images of the soldiers and the ironic sense that the
men are on their way back from the front line so they should be in less threat, yet this is where one
man is killed. The next verse begins with a shout of danger: Gas! Gas! Quick boys. Ecstasy is used
paradoxically; it shows the speed and panic of the men as they know how important it is to get their
helmets on and yet their fingers fail them. The poet tricks the reader by saying Fitting the clumsy
helmets just in time which gives us the feeling that everyone has got their helmets on; this isn t true.
The next few lines talk about the terror and pain the man goes through as the gas enters his body. The
simile floundering like a man in fire was used to demonstrate the panic created by the man as he knew

Klondike During The Gold Rush
You have to have something to write about in order to write a story. It doesn t have to be something
you just made up yourself it can be a story you heard somewhere. Well known author Jack London
began writing his stories when he headed off to the Klondike during the gold rush.
Jack London was born in 1876 in San Francisco, California. When his father abandoned the family his
mother remarried and he took his stepfather s last name. London discovered early on that it was a
struggle to make a living and he worked various jobs like a sailor, oyster pirate and fish patroller.
Troubles began in 1893 during the national economic crisis and London joined a march of
unemployed workers. After he was put in jail for vagrancy for a whole month he decided

The Effects Of Brain Games On The Brain
From what we have learned in class about studies done on the brain there are a few conclusions that
can be made. Dr.Simons was surprised about the outcome of the experiment he did not get strong
enough results towards the outcome he wanted/predicted. He stated it would be really nice if you
could play some games and have it radically change your cognitive abilities (Simons). One example
from class to describe the experiment done by Dr.Simons is their sensation. I believe that something
has happened so parts of the subjects sensory neurons in their eyes was not correctly working right
and they weren t able to continuously see the same object, even after using the brain games. Another
reason that could have affected their ability to be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They stated that the brain games have not shown a clear benefit so far in the study but they are not
sure where the study really went wrong he thinks it is more of the way the participates went about the
study. One overall finding was that people do not work the brain hard enough or over a long enough
time period, it takes mental effort to practice to be able to see results (Rebok). Rebok says if we can
implement that long range, I think that there will be a big dividend eventually. Simons stated they did
find a few good studies, which showed that brain games do help people get better at a specific task. He
then gave the example of scanning baggage at an airport and looking for a knife. He says you get
really, really good at spotting that knife (Simons). Overall they got an even handed amount of results
so some would say it would help and others would say it did not, I think for them to be able to say
brain games helped they would need it to work for more than half of their participates.
Personally, I have never used a brain training game; maybe I will try one in the future. I used this site
called Membean it was to test your knowledge of vocabulary if you know the definition could find
examples of it and use it in a sentence but I don t believe this would be an example of a brain training
game. I had one girl who said she believes she used a brain game called Fit brains trainer something
like that and it helped her a little bit but not much. I have actually never heard of a brain training game
and the people I have asked also have never used one or even heard of what they

My Lai Massacre Analysis
METONYMY I used to date a girl whose biggest fear was human fragility. The details of it, I mean,
terrified her. The idea that bones can break, and fingers can be cut off, and noses can bleed. Tendons,
especially. She found tendons disgusting. Hated the idea of them, because she couldn t imagine a
tendon without imagining it snapping like a sinewy rubber band. I don t know why she never
expressed the same aversion to ligaments, but she probably had it, if I d brought it up. I never could
bring it up, though, because if I made any mention of violence of any kind, she looked like she was
going to throw up, and sometimes she did. So, in addition to not being able to discuss certain aspects
of the news (she never knew and never wanted to know the details of the night Trayvon Martin died,
for example,) we also couldn t watch certain movies. After a year or so of living with her, I d taken to
checking movie review sites made for Christian parents to decide which movies their teenagers can
and cannot watch before suggesting anything. One night, we watched a documentary about the My Lai
Massacre, and she cried for two hours. She was upset about the ... Show more content on

that she could have something more to say. In retrospect, and as with many opinions this is one that

United States President is a deeply historical event. The actual decision, though, does not come as

Kennedy. Kennedy, a wealthy, Harvard educated Catholic, s USSR s surging economy and the
importance of foreign policy. Nixon spoke of a brighter future and Kennedy boasted a new frontier.
These close similarities forced the campaigns to seek out other differences . Like the 1948 election,
several faux pas plagued the Republican camp. Eisenhower, under whom Nixon was Vice President at
the time, accidentally slighted Nixon. He was asked what major decisions Nixon had helped influence.
In attempt to curtail a press conference, Eisenhower replied if you give me a week, I might think of
one ( Road to Camelot ). Though not intended to harm Nixon at all, this hurt the election. The media
played a huge role in this election. The 1960 Presidential debate, aside from being the first ever
televised, was a deciding factor. Nixon, who was weary from campaigning and a knee injury, looked
haggard and old in front of the camera. This was exacerbated by the fact that he refused to wear
makeup and that his suit blended in with the backdrop. Kennedy, however, owned the camera. This
brought up an interesting result; When the debate ended, a large majority of television viewers

the hearts of viewers. In the end, Kennedy s young image had an incredible influence on the outcome

Enemy Release Research Paper
Enemy release is perhaps one of the most elementary forms of reasoning behind why a species has the
potential to become invasive in an introduced environment. The enemy release hypothesis predicts
that an exotic species can become invasive upon it introduction as a result of its escape or release of
specialist herbivores. It also predicts that phenotypic plasticity will be displayed similarly in native
and invasive ecotypes and that both ecotypes will behave and respond alike in common environments
(Rogers and Siemann, 2005). This prediction is derived from the understanding that both native and
invasive ecotypes have similar genetic contribution to tissue type and quality (Rogers and Siemann,
2005). Assuming that specialist herbivores are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In part, this is explained by the novel weapons hypothesis which predicts that invasive plant species
produce chemicals that are novel to generalists of introduced ranges, requiring adaptive evolution for
invasives to become palatable to generalists (Lankau et al., 2004). It is also generally accepted that
invasives tend to alter the soil composition of their introduced ranges (Zou et al., 2006). In some
instances, it is evident that generalists do not feed on invasives in introduced ranges because they lack
the behavioral adaptations necessary to do so (Lankau et al., 2004). In 2002, a greenhouse study was
performed in LaMarque, Texas where grasshoppers (M. augustipennis) were placed large mesocosms
with Triadica and Celtis (common hackberry) to determine possible behavioral shifts of herbivores
when confined to a single food source (Lankau et al., 2004). In fact, grasshoppers exhibited more
herbivory on the exotic Triadica genotypes when compared to relative consumption of native Celtis
genotypes (Lankau et al., 2004). This study suggests that Triadica sebifera is indeed palatable to
generalist herbivores like grasshoppers in its introduced ranges. Generalists, however, require
selective pressure in order to shift their diets to invasive species like Triadica sebifera (Lankau et al.,
2004). Generalist herbivores display no detrimental effects

To What Extent Did Adolf Hitler Is To Blame For The Holocaust
The Holocaust was a persecution and murder of about six million Jews within a 12 year span. This all
started when Adolf Hitler and the Nazis took power in 1933 and believed their German race was by
far more superior than the Jewish race. Adolf Hitler is most to blame for the Holocaust because he
wanted to take complete power of Germany, express his racial views, and this forced his actions to
blame him most for the Holocaust; however, others may argue Ernst Roehm is to blame.
Hitler wanted to take lead of Germany and restore their power after their defeat, from there on, Hitler
took charge. Hitler heard the news that Germany had been defeated, while he was in the hospital, that
Germany has been defeated. It was Hitler s first time shedding tears from his eyes since his mother s

Price The price may need to be increased to support the expansion in to a new facility. I would
recommend only an increase large enough to transition into the facility and then hold the price steady
again until the effect of the price increase is evaluated. Once the full impact is understood, perhaps put
an incremental increase in place with cost living increases. The goal is to make more profit by
increasing volume as opposed to keeping the same volume and increasing price.
Promotion Once the new facility was in place a promotion targeted at the food serviced brokers and
the restaurant chains (like Pub 99) outlining the detail of how Azalea has increased their capacity and
automated their process with the most up to date sanitary precautions emphasizing they are USDA
certified. As the expansion ability lies with these entities the promotion would be aimed at them. The
consumer purchasing the product already knows how good the product is, so it is less about the new
product being promoted and more about the expansion of the existing product and Azalea s ability to
meet the demand. Face to face selling to the executives of the food service brokers and restaurant
chains will be essential in the success of the plan. In addition, they will need to balance the loyalty of
the high end resteraunteur that demands individual attention.

My Culture, Identity, And Many Aspects Of My Cultural...
Each individual has a specific culture that can they can use to identify oneself. I discovered my own
cultural identity with the help of many aspects I have faced throughout my life. Culture is an
important role in everyone s life. Culture can be discovered by seeing how different an individual is
from someone else. It can also be seen even when you don t realize it. My family have been a major
impact on discovering my cultural identity. My cultural identity would not exist if it weren t for
previous experiences I have encountered up until this point. My cultural identity is involved in many
aspects of my life because of how my family influences my culture, how my view on culture differs
from everyone else, and how society views me.
My family influences my culture by introducing me to new things from their culture. As I am growing
up, I always think about how everything I have done in my life has led up to where I am as of now.
Similarly, In the Springboard article, Ethnic Hash , written by Patricia J. Williams, she questions,
What were the flavors, accents, and linguistic trills that were passed down to me over the ages?
(Williams 11) My family has been teaching me new things everyday that help identify my culture. My
name was given to me by my father and my grandmother and my mom chose my nickname. I like that
my name was given to me by multiple family members who all worked together to find something that
fits me perfectly. There are also many aspects of my culture that explain who I am. I grew up with my
mom, so I mainly grew up around the filipino culture. I would have to say that food has to be one of
the main aspects that have affected my culture. All my life, filipino food has been around and it helped
me get to know part of my culture even better. The different foods introduced me to different flavors
that are specific to their culture. The food can help explain who I am because it can determine what I
do and don t like. As a result of my family s influences, I have been able to identify myself as who I
am today. Other people s perspective on culture differs from my own. I view my culture as something
that is normal to my everyday routine. Others may see my culture as something they ve never seen

Sociological Imagination Paper
Sociological imagination is a term that I was not familiar with until taking sociology. I quickly learned
that sociological imagination is a concept that was described by sociologist C. Wright Mills.
Sociological imagination is an awareness of the relationships between an individual and the wider
society. I began to think about this term while I did my observing. I observed three different settings in
order to find out more about the sociological imagination and how it affects our daily lives. The first
setting I observed was a collegiate football game. My family traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma to
watch an Oklahoma State football game. I decided that this would be the perfect atmosphere to
observe the interaction of a large group of people. I quickly learned that a ... Show more content on

The groups of people I noticed were the OSU marching band, the OSU fans, the cheerleaders, the
coaches, and the opposing fans. I could tell a distinction between each of the different groups. The
second concept I observed was the different racial groups of people in the stadium. The racial groups I
saw were mostly of the Caucasian race but there were African Americans, Chinese, and Japanese
people there to watch the football game. My family sat behind a few fans that were for the opposing
team, the West Virginia Mountaineers. These particular West Virginia fans acted very obnoxious. This
leads me to the next sociological concept I observed: deviance. Deviance is behavior that violates
social norms that are expected in society. In this situation the act of being obnoxious was not
considered unusual but the foul language that the fans were saying was considered deviant. OSU
promotes a family friendly environment. The words that were being said from the West Virginia fans
were not family friendly. It is clear that the West Virginia fans did not have the same values that the
surrounding Oklahoma State fans had. A value is a collection

Selfishness In The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant
How does an author show the reader how pride, selfishness and being unsatisfied with what you have,

Addiction Responding Task Of The Theatrical Style
Addiction Responding Task
Belgium is accredited for the creation of the theatrical style, unrealistic theatre; although unrealistic
theatre is a blanket term incorporating Absurdist Theatre, Expressionism, Theatre of Cruelty and more.
Non realistic Theatre isn t restricted to traditionally recreating life on stage, but it investigates evasive
ideologies, intangible emotions and human existence; simply transforming reality. Addiction was an
unrealistic piece of drama exploring the drug world, side effects and consequences of drug intake.

This piece of drama conveyed the dramatic meaning (moral), The effect is of a background of
magnificence cheapened by commercialism. (O Neil, 1922). Generalised, masked wealthy characters
contributed to the dramatic meaning and symbolically emphasised their unawareness and carelessness
for the disadvantaged. Techniques which were present in this activity were manipulated, personalised
and incorporated into Addiction. In Addiction, Scene 8, masks were utilised to strip Darcy s family of
their identities and transform them into his memories. By masking his family members it allowed for
most of the focus to be on Darcy and during the final stages of the scene all three memories were
frozen creating a frozen tableau conveying the strong emotion of disappointment, thus establishing the
disappointing mood of the scene and engaging the audience.
Tension drives a situation which is directed by the focus; tension can be created through including
roles, characters surprise and mystery. Tension can be enhanced through the incorporation of
unrealistic conventions, thus engaging the audience. In Addiction tension was created during and after
conflict. These conflicts are caused by various characters which then is incentive for the plot. The
tension of relationships between the Angel and Devil was evident when Angel and Devil s

Feminist Liberation Movement
I wonder why it took such an extended time for women to come up with a feminist spiritual movement
in the Church, since it seems like they have been oppressed for so long? Feminist spirituality is a
relatively new field that has grown out of the struggle of women for equality in both society and
Church (CTM p. 184). Feminist spirituality is an expression of a current theology that has originated
in Latin America that emphasizes the theme of liberation from oppression (CTM p. 255). Additionally,
I wonder if the Second Vatican Council had something to do with the upbringing of this movement? I
also wonder if the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s, provided women with the fearlessness to
march for their rights in society and the Church? Feminist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, these events had a great influence in shaping the Catholic feminist movement, and
ultimately turning it into a form of spirituality. According to the Mary Joanne Henold, from the
University of North Carolina Press, The Second Vatican Council (1962 65), an inspiring but overtly
sexist event that enraged and exhilarated Catholic women in equal measure, as a catalyst of the
movement within the church. (https://www.uncpress.org/book/9780807873533/catholic and feminist/)
In other words, it is evidently comprehensible that the Second Vatican Council pushed women to the
side, consequently establishing a movement. In addition, I think that women have the right to object
their rights within the Church, with the feminist movement, owing to the fact that they have been
defined in terms of their sexual, reproductive functions, values or personal possibilities which are
determined by biology (CTM p. 185). Ultimately, this makes women feel oppressed and alienated
from themselves, which I believe is

Preparation process:
Take a medium sized saucepan and combine the sugar, cloves, salt, vinegar, beets, and onion. Bring

The Effect Of Blast Loads On Buildings
Abstract
The increase in the number of terrorist attacks especially in the last few years has shown that the effect
of blast loads on buildings is a serious matter that should be taken into consideration in the design
process. Although these kinds of attacks are exceptional cases, man made disasters; blast loads are in
fact dynamic loads that need to be carefully calculated just like earthquake and wind loads. The use of
bombs to attack the cities by terrorist organizations around the world. A bomb explosion within or
immediately nearby a building can cause catastrophic damage on the building s external and internal
structural frames, collapsing of walls, blowing out of large expanses of windows, and shutting down
of critical life safety systems. Loss of life and injuries to occupants can result from many causes,
including direct blast effects, structural collapse, debris impact, fire, and smoke. The indirect effects
can combine to inhibit or prevent timely evacuation, thereby contributing to additional casualties. Due
to the threat from such extreme loading conditions, efforts have been made during the past decades to
develop methods of structural analysis and design to resist blast loads. The analysis and design of
structures subjected to blast loads require a detailed understanding of blast phenomena and the
dynamic response of various structural elements.

Robert Frost Poems Analysis
Robert Frost is a poet who is known for writing simple stories that contains deeper meanings about
life. In The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening both depict measuring life s
decisions as a piece of the account. These poems signify a journey, where one must choose between
two paths in life. In both poems, the speakers reach a point of uncertainty in their journeys. Although
both stories have similar aspects in life decisions, there are some differences. These differences are
based on impulses. We can deduce this based on how each speaker reacted to their decisions in the
path they take in life. The following shows how decisions can affect a person s viewpoint. In Stopping
by Woods on a Snowy Evening the speaker is on a journey in a snowy environment. He has doubts
due to being in a secluded place, a place that s far away from civilization. He stops to enjoy the beauty
and the serenity of the snow falling in the woods. He describes the woods as gradually fill up with
snow (Line 4). He s confused as to why he is so far away from any houses: To stop without a
farmhouse near (Line 6). This allows him to capture an image and embrace the beauty of the snow
falling. He even describes how the wind is easy and he is aware of everything around him. (Frost 89).
Although he is enjoying the moment the speaker knows he must come to a decision and move on. This
shows that the speaker knows that although he can enjoy the moment, he has to continue with his life
The woods are lovely...but I have promises to keep (Line 13 14).
In the poem, The Road Not Taken , the speaker must decide the path he is taking. This poem is about a
person who comes to a road, and which path he must take. As the speaker contemplate his decisions,
he knows he must make a the road a good one. So, he should choose wisely in making the best
decision. The speaker chooses his thought very carefully. He says, And looked down as far as I
could/To where it bent in the undergrowth (DiYanni 539). After giving it some thought, he decides to
take the road less traveled (DiYanni 540). The Road Not Taken implies a troublesome decision in a
man s life that could offer him a simple or hard way out. There is no answer of

How Did The Union Win The Civil War A Turning Point
During the time of the civil war, there were a lot of things that happened that affected the outcome of
the civil war. When this war started, both sides had reason to believe that they would win, but both
were surprised that the war was going to be longer and much more difficult than expected. After this
long and difficult war, it is safe to be said that the turning points and advantages that helped the Union
win this war were the resource ratio advantage, the population differential advantage, the battle of
Gettysburg, Emancipation Proclamation, and Sherman s March.
The civil war was a four year long war. Four years worth of war requires four years worth of
materials. Although this seems like such a small thing that plays a factor in the ... Show more content

The battles were fought in effort for the North to take over all of America in order to run all of this
land the Northern way instead of having the South run it a different way down South. The battle of
Gettysburg was memorable because this all changed. During this battle the South for the first time
went on the offensive to try and push the North further back into their territory and attacked them. The
two sides battled for three days until the North gained the upper hand and won the battle. Document 6
says this about the end of the battle, The Union victory at the Battle of Gettysburg, sometimes referred
to as the High Water Mark of the Rebellion resulted not only in Lee s retreat for Virginia, but an end to
the hopes of the confederate states of America for independence (Document 6). This quote is
explaining the fact that the Lee and his army was not going to be able to force the North back so they
were eventually doomed. Without the force to push the enemy back you are going to be overrun so
this was a turning point in the war when this was realized. This may be seen as a turning point in the
war which it is, but it can also be considered an advantage. Since the North could not be over run there
was not as much pressure on them because they knew they could defend and they did not have to be as
worried of attack. The North used this advantage on its journey of winning the civil

Canadian Arctic Sovereignty is currently a pressing issue has raised many questions about who owns

One of Canada s priorities in regards to Arctic Sovereignty should be to protect the Inuit people not
only because they are experiencing a loss in culture, but the Circumpolar Inuit Declaration on Arctic

on.
Due to the receding Arctic ice there is now a partially open route through the Northwest Passage
during certain parts of the year, which could pose a possible threat to Canada. According to the
Canadian Ice Service and the US National Ice Center, the passage is almost clear and more than ever
since the beginning of routine monitoring in 1972 (The Northwest Passage: In Dispute and
Navigable). The opening of this passage has now sparked the interest of the US and Russia in wanting
it to be officially deemed as international waters. The Northwest Passage is 7000km shorter than the
Panama Canal from Europe to Asia (Byers). This would mean that international shipping companies
would be able to save a great deal of time and money. There could also be the possibility to use super
tankers to transport oil which is impossible to do through the Panama Canal (Byers). There are ship
manufacturers that are currently designing and building vessels that would be able to withstand ice
(Byers). The cruise ship industry is also interested in the use of the passage (Byers). There is a Russian

Sectional Tension Dbq
Throughout much of the mid nineteenth century Northern and Southern states remained locked in a
fierce debate over the issues of slavery, state s rights, and taxation. This partitioning between the
North and the South is evident when examining the election of 1860. Abraham Lincoln, a Northerner
and product of the Republican party, faced opposition from Southern Democrats to such a great extent
that he did not even make the ballot in the South. The South was so angry at the prospect of a
Northern Republican becoming president and possibly interfering with their rights that upon Lincoln s
election, they seceded from the Union, leading up to the bloodiest war the United States had ever
taken part in: the Civil War. This lack of conflict resolution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This set of 6 proposed Constitutional amendments was one of the last congressional attempts to
preserve the union without resorting to a full blown war with the South. This proposal was ineffective
because Congress found that the proposed amendments, one of which would have made slave
ownership a Constitutional right in the South, conceded too much to Southern extremists and thus it
was never passed. This compromise also would have extended the slave demarcation line, splitting the
United States in two sections and exacerbating the extent to which their were two divisive political
parties; one for Northern rights and one for Southern rights. By the time the Crittenden Compromise
was proposed slavery was no longer an issue which only pertained to the maintenance of a political
balance of power but it had also become a moral issue. This made Northern voters much less likely to
support a compromise that did not directly place a limit on slavery, much less one that made it a
Constitutional Amendment. With Northern voters beginning to vehemently stand up for their beliefs
against slavery and state authority and Southern voters still refusing to back down from theirs, the
ineffectiveness of past compromises was

The Definition of Liberty
In New York there is a 250 ton green statue dressed in a robe, holding a torch and tablet with broken
chains at the feet. In 1886, the statue was given to the United States as a gift to symbolize liberty. The
statue is the Statue of Liberty. She is dressed in a robe to symbolize the Roman goddess of freedom,
Libertas. She holds a torch and a tablet to symbolize evoking the law. Many individuals visit the
Statue of Liberty, hoping to understand what liberty means. Liberty has many interpretations and it is
not confined to one meaning. To truly understand the meaning of liberty, an individual must
understand the different types of liberties that are available to Americans. Visiting the Statue of
Liberty will not fully define the concept of what liberty truly means; an individual must understand
the definition, the characteristics, the types, and what liberty is not. First, an individual needs to
understand the definition of liberty. Liberty is derived from the Latin word Liber, which means free.
Liberty means an individual is able to to live in a society that is free of oppressive restrictions on how
to live ones life, behave, or ones political views. An individual commonly expresses liberty as:
freedom, independence, autonomy, emancipation, and liberation. Next an individual must understand
the characteristics of liberty. There are two characteristics of liberty, negative liberties and positive
liberties. Negative liberties are liberties that do not have possess

What Is The Critique Of The Movie Trumbo
McCarthyism, an incident that invoked a dark age upon movie writers and writers in general, teaches
about how society lived in a time of fear, anger, and skepticism towards differences, just how the
starring role in the movie Trumbo (acted by yourself), which amazed me, takes the viewers through a
tour of the life of a writer affected by these negative impulses from society. Trumbo kept me
enthralled all the way through, and my attention just couldn t break away from it. Every element in it
executed remarkably well, from the vividly enriched acting, to the heavily sharp themes, to the
characters that boomed with personality, and even to the gracefully dim screenplay. There exists a
sizable amount of illustrated life lessons to love and to learn about the film not only in the movie
itself, but in its themes, its acting, and its screenplay as well. This letter to you expresses my praise for
your effort put into the movie s, and thanks you for giving us such an awesome film to review in our
class.
To begin with, the movie s screenplay fantastically dramatized the movie itself. In fact, the film s
screenplay managed to obtain a nomination for the Writers Guild of America Award in the Best
Adapted Screenplay category. One reason why it kept me entertained consists in every line of dialogue
incorporating a staggering amount of character into it, that it feels as if they recorded them in the exact
moment the characters exclaimed them. And the fantastic dialogue itself worked

American Football Touchdowns
In American Football, the key is to score the most points. I am just going to tell you how to exactly do
that. There are five different ways to score in American Football. There are various ways to score
these points on each side of the ball. The most common ways in scoring result in either a touchdown
or a field goal. However, there are a few other ways to score in the game of football.
Touchdowns are the most common scoring drives in football. A touchdown is when an offensive
player carrying the ball crosses the line of the opponents end zone resulting in a six point scoring drive
down field. Touchdowns can be scored from each side of the ball. It is more common to have a
touchdown on the offensive side of the ball rather than the defensive

Compare And Contrast New England And Massachusetts Bay...
During the 17th and 18th centuries, many English colonists settled into colonies in America, otherwise
known as the New World . There were many reasons to do so, whether it be for economic benefit or to
avoid religious persecution. These original 13 colonies began developing fast with the help from the
English, growing population wise and government wise. Two specific areas included the New England
and Chesapeake colonies. The Chesapeake colonies included Maryland and Virginia, while the
colonies of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and the Massachusetts Bay colony were part
of the New England colonies. These two colonial societies shared a few similarities regarding the
development of their religion and economy, they also had a few differences. Religion plays a major
part in many societies, especially the first 13 colonies. Some colonies were even settled solely to have
freedom of religion and escape from religious persecution. Massachusetts was one example, as the
Puritans first went to Plymouth in 1620 seeking religious freedom. In terms of the New England
colonies overall, they remained Puritan. The idea of religious toleration was restricted to only the
Puritan religion. A goal of theirs was to establish a city on a hill , which they succeeded at by having
an atmosphere of watchfulness and helping each other. John Winthrop, a Puritan, served as the first
Massachusetts Bay Colony governor. Anyone who did not follow this religion were known as

The marketing strategy of the CMF launch on the U.S. market was well planned. A celebrity Emily
Procter was invited to make advertising. According to Hofstede s typology, the U.S. belong to an
individualistic culture and Emily Procter was known for her individual success, the consumers were
expected to follow her. As individuals are concerned primarily with their own interests and are
concentrated on good appearance, fresh breath and white teeth are important components of their
attractiveness. U.S. also belong to a masculine culture where material success and assertiveness are of
great value (which Emily Procter communicates).
The packaging was thought out properly: liquid bottle form with mini breath strips clearly visible
through the clear plastic container. According to Martin Ross (1995) sensory brand images would
perform well in countries where high individualism is a dominant cultural pattern , a product with
sensory appeal provides novelty, variety, and sensory gratification . CMF embodied this image.
CMF achieved phenomenal success accounting for over 40% of the company s revenues along with
the products released after 2000.

  • 2. This Way For The Gas Ladies And Gentlemen Analysis In the documentary This Way for the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen, Tadeusz Borowski gathers multiple different experiences whether it was directly or indirectly of the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a genocide in which Adolf Hitler Nazi s Germany and its collaborators during World War II killed six million jews. One of the most important aspects of this autobiography is the identification of the author as actually the main character. He is one of the prisoners at the concentration camp in Auschwitz where numerous jews are being exterminated. He had to learn how to accept this style of living to make it home , even though he was not Jewish. • 3. Oxidative Stress Lab Report Biochemistry of Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress The research was done by Sabry M. El Bahr at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, P.O. Box 22758, Alexandria University, Egypt. The overall purpose of this experiment was to study the causes of oxidative stress that is caused by free radical. It is known that the free radicals and the Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are used interchangeably. ROS can damage DNA, biomembrane lipids, proteins and other macromolecules. The primary source of ROS is the leakage of electron from the respiratory chain during the reduction of molecular oxygen to water generating superoxide anion. The classification of ROS includes oxygen centered radicals and oxygen centered non radicals. Moreover, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The system can take care of those reactive oxygen species, some of them are enzymes, including glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase which are the most major antioxidant enzymes that are capable to minimize oxidative stress in the organelles, and some are non enzyme antioxidants such as glutathione, selenium, vitamin C and E. Oxidative stress is when the balance is in favor of oxidase, so when the antioxidants systems in the cell cannot keep up, something gets out of whack and things start to come oxidized. This can happen in a lot of ways, we have endogenous sources of ROS; things that are happening in the cell like aerobic cellular respiration where the ROS are being produced as a result of some byproduct or some cellular process that supposed to be occurring like electron transport in cellular respiration or breaking down fatty acid and peroxisome. In this study, scientist found that there are levels of free radicals reactivity of the compounds that are being produced in the cell; some with least reactivity such as H2O2, and some are highly reactive such as OH. The free radicals can affect the cell negatively. One of the element that generates free radicals and causes oxidative stress is cadmium. It increases lipid peroxidation and/or changes intracellular glutathione levels. However, investigators found that some plants such as curcumin is a natural drug that works ... • 4. Adah s Death Devin O Donnell Emily Dickinson (page 365): Because I could not stop for Death The title of Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I could not stop for Death , helps characterize Adah. She was left behind, forgotten in a sense, and trampled when ants swarmed and took over the village. Orleanna, her own mother, didn t save her. But instead of citing Adah s disabilities as the reason for not saving her, she instead tells Ruth May, the youngest of the four daughters and was saved by Orleanna, that she was saved over Adah because she was the younger of the two. Adah fought with all she could to make it to safety, and was saved by Anatole. When she moved, with Orleanna, back to the United States and went to college, her old, crippled self, died, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The completion of this section marks the beginning of the Price girls hope in going home. This also marks the point when the Price family s life starts to go downhill and builds up to the most tragic event of when they are in the Congo. This poem helps characterize Orleanna. At first she has hope in Nathan that he will help convert the village people, baptize them, and have them become part of his congregation. Orleanna progressively loses faith in him as the story goes on, and after the Underdowns advise them to leave (and Nathan states his desire to stay) she starts to speak out against him. This Emily Dickinson passage also characterizes Leah as she begins to truly see her father s character, and loses hope that he is able to protect them, a feeling that she previously held. Leah also stops wanting shadow him because she sees that he isn t the godly, perfect father she thought he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Identify the qualities that make that person substantially different from you. In what ways are you basically similar? Which dominates, the differences or similarities? People with this personality will not easily get disturbed , will not get stressed out easily whenever he/she are facing problem and would not worry about things. He/she will have a positive thinking and try to solve the problem with the easy way. On the other hand, those who score low in emotional stability means that he/she is emotional instability or sometimes call neuroticism. They are more likely to interpret ordinary situations as threatening, and minor frustrations as hopelessly difficult. Their negative emotional reactions tend to persist for unusually long periods of time, which means they are often in a bad mood. These problems in emotional regulation can diminish the ability of a person scoring high on neuroticism to think clearly, make decisions, and cope effectively with stress. Openness to experience is used to describe human personality. Openness involves active imagination, aesthetic sensitivity, attentiveness to inner feelings, preference for variety, and intellectual curiosity. A great deal of psychometric research has demonstrated that these qualities are statistically correlated. Thus, openness can be viewed as a global personality trait consisting of a set of specific traits, habits, and tendencies that cluster together. Openness is associated with tolerance of ambiguity (which means when something is not clear), a capacity to absorb information, being very focused and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Peter Paul Rubens The Consequences Of War In 1638, Peter Paul Rubens painted The Consequences of War as an allegory for the mood in Europe towards the Thirty Years War. The Thirty Years War was a series of wars throughout Europe that decimated cities and cultures. The wars were mainly due to a feud between Protestants and Catholics after the Counter Reformation. The wars began in 1618 and lasted until 1648, so Rubens work of art, The Consequences of War, couldn t have come at a more powerful or influential time. Furthermore, Flanders, the location where Rubens lived at the time, was in the midst of the war. Flanders was its own army at the time, and there were numerous horrific battles in the area, which brought out chaos amongst the Flanders citizens. Everyone was frightened for their ... The mood created and the size are two very Baroque aspects that Rubens includes in order to make the viewer feel connected to the work of art more. Additionally, each figure tells their own story, but each of their individual stories adds to the overall theme. First, there is a woman figure on the far left who is a personified version of Europe. The woman is in despair, flailing her arms up, and has tears in her eyes. This represents the mood of all the European citizens throughout the Thirty Years War, and if a viewer looks at her they would feel connected on an emotional level. Next, there is Venus who is desperately trying to hold back her lover Mars from inevitably going to war. Venus is portrayed as a beautiful, nearly nude figure who is highlighted with lots of light. Rubens includes lots of diagonals to show movement in the image, and to show how the story being told is not over another very Baroque characteristic. Another crucial figure is Mars, the God of War. • 7. The Great Chicago Fire By Robert Cromie The Great Chicago Fire was a historical narrative written by Robert Cromie in 1958, a little less than 100 years after the fire took place. Robert Cromie had many accomplishments to be proud of, since he was a war correspondent, a sports journalist, a columnist, a book editor/author, and a radio and television host. His radio and television shows were about books and authors, and they gained him numerous writing and broadcasting awards. In 1936, he joined the Chicago Tribune staff as a writer (Struzzi). It was from there that Cromie gained a love for journalism and interviewing people. He even wrote for several national magazines, one of them being the Saturday Evening Post. Chicago was extremely dry during that year and in fact, many fires had occurred recently in the Windy City before the Great Chicago Fire. Cromie describes the city as an enormous artificial forest, drying out in a sun heated oven (pg 9), since almost everything was made out of wood, from the pine block paving, to fences of pine, to wooden roofs. Chicago also was filled with warehouses with wooden shelves, lumber mills, and paint and varnish shops that contained inflammable items. On page 11, Cromie stated that, Chicago specialized in the production, handling, and storage of combustible goods . All this information showed how easily a fire could spread; Chicago was almost asking for a terrible fire to happen. The cause of the fire is still uncertain today, but it has been speculated about by many researchers. Cromie chose to write about the legend of Mrs. O Learys cow. Although Mrs. O Leary denied any accusations towards her, many people still blamed her cow, who could have knocked over a gas lantern inside a wooden shed near her house. On October 8, 1871 the flame started somewhere near the O Learys house, and the Great Chicago Fire began and spread rapidly. Life wasn t easy for soldiers in the war as Wilfred Owen and Thomas Hardy express strongly in their legendary poems Dulce et Decorum est and Drummer Hodge . Peter Porter writes about the situation people may find themselves in when in, his poem Your Attention Please , he describes an announcement concerning a nuclear Rocket Strike. Wilfred Owen died at the age of 25 and was killed seven days before the end of World War 1. He uses the metaphor Drunk with fatigue to illustrate the tiredness of the men. Stanza one ends on a note of warning; the danger of which the soldiers are unaware, as they can t hear properly. The first and second verses are all to do with the visual and oral images of the soldiers and the ironic sense that the men are on their way back from the front line so they should be in less threat, yet this is where one man is killed. The next verse begins with a shout of danger: Gas! Gas! Quick boys. Ecstasy is used paradoxically; it shows the speed and panic of the men as they know how important it is to get their helmets on and yet their fingers fail them. The poet tricks the reader by saying Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time which gives us the feeling that everyone has got their helmets on; this isn t true. The next few lines talk about the terror and pain the man goes through as the gas enters his body. The simile floundering like a man in fire was used to demonstrate the panic created by the man as he knew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It doesn t have to be something you just made up yourself it can be a story you heard somewhere. Well known author Jack London began writing his stories when he headed off to the Klondike during the gold rush. Jack London was born in 1876 in San Francisco, California. When his father abandoned the family his mother remarried and he took his stepfather s last name. London discovered early on that it was a struggle to make a living and he worked various jobs like a sailor, oyster pirate and fish patroller. Troubles began in 1893 during the national economic crisis and London joined a march of unemployed workers. After he was put in jail for vagrancy for a whole month he decided ... Dr.Simons was surprised about the outcome of the experiment he did not get strong enough results towards the outcome he wanted/predicted. He stated it would be really nice if you could play some games and have it radically change your cognitive abilities (Simons). One example from class to describe the experiment done by Dr.Simons is their sensation. One overall finding was that people do not work the brain hard enough or over a long enough time period, it takes mental effort to practice to be able to see results (Rebok). Rebok says if we can implement that long range, I think that there will be a big dividend eventually. Simons stated they did find a few good studies, which showed that brain games do help people get better at a specific task. He then gave the example of scanning baggage at an airport and looking for a knife. He says you get really, really good at spotting that knife (Simons). The idea that bones can break, and fingers can be cut off, and noses can bleed. Tendons, especially. She found tendons disgusting. Hated the idea of them, because she couldn t imagine a tendon without imagining it snapping like a sinewy rubber band. I don t know why she never expressed the same aversion to ligaments, but she probably had it, if I d brought it up. I never could bring it up, though, because if I made any mention of violence of any kind, she looked like she was going to throw up, and sometimes she did. So, in addition to not being able to discuss certain aspects of the news (she never knew and never wanted to know the details of the night Trayvon Martin died, for example,) we also couldn t watch certain movies. In attempt to curtail a press conference, Eisenhower replied if you give me a week, I might think of one ( Road to Camelot ). Though not intended to harm Nixon at all, this hurt the election. The media played a huge role in this election. The 1960 Presidential debate, aside from being the first ever televised, was a deciding factor. Nixon, who was weary from campaigning and a knee injury, looked haggard and old in front of the camera. • 13. Enemy Release Research Paper Enemy release is perhaps one of the most elementary forms of reasoning behind why a species has the potential to become invasive in an introduced environment. The enemy release hypothesis predicts that an exotic species can become invasive upon it introduction as a result of its escape or release of specialist herbivores. It also predicts that phenotypic plasticity will be displayed similarly in native and invasive ecotypes and that both ecotypes will behave and respond alike in common environments (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). This prediction is derived from the understanding that both native and invasive ecotypes have similar genetic contribution to tissue type and quality (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). Assuming that specialist herbivores are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In part, this is explained by the novel weapons hypothesis which predicts that invasive plant species produce chemicals that are novel to generalists of introduced ranges, requiring adaptive evolution for invasives to become palatable to generalists (Lankau et al., 2004). It is also generally accepted that invasives tend to alter the soil composition of their introduced ranges (Zou et al., 2006). In some instances, it is evident that generalists do not feed on invasives in introduced ranges because they lack the behavioral adaptations necessary to do so (Lankau et al., 2004). In 2002, a greenhouse study was performed in LaMarque, Texas where grasshoppers (M. augustipennis) were placed large mesocosms with Triadica and Celtis (common hackberry) to determine possible behavioral shifts of herbivores when confined to a single food source (Lankau et al., 2004). In fact, grasshoppers exhibited more herbivory on the exotic Triadica genotypes when compared to relative consumption of native Celtis genotypes (Lankau et al., 2004). This study suggests that Triadica sebifera is indeed palatable to generalist herbivores like grasshoppers in its introduced ranges. Generalists, however, require selective pressure in order to shift their diets to invasive species like Triadica sebifera (Lankau et al., 2004). Culture can be discovered by seeing how different an individual is from someone else. It can also be seen even when you don t realize it. My family have been a major impact on discovering my cultural identity. My cultural identity would not exist if it weren t for previous experiences I have encountered up until this point. My cultural identity is involved in many aspects of my life because of how my family influences my culture, how my view on culture differs from everyone else, and how society views me. My family influences my culture by introducing me to new things from their culture. As I am growing up, I always think about how everything I have done in my life has led up to where I am as of now. Similarly, In the Springboard article, Ethnic Hash , written by Patricia J. Williams, she questions, What were the flavors, accents, and linguistic trills that were passed down to me over the ages? (Williams 11) My family has been teaching me new things everyday that help identify my culture. My name was given to me by my father and my grandmother and my mom chose my nickname. I like that my name was given to me by multiple family members who all worked together to find something that fits me perfectly. There are also many aspects of my culture that explain who I am. All my life, filipino food has been around and it helped me get to know part of my culture even better. The different foods introduced me to different flavors that are specific to their culture. The food can help explain who I am because it can determine what I do and don t like. As a result of my family s influences, I have been able to identify myself as who I am today. Sociological imagination is an awareness of the relationships between an individual and the wider society. I began to think about this term while I did my observing. I observed three different settings in order to find out more about the sociological imagination and how it affects our daily lives. The first setting I observed was a collegiate football game. My family sat behind a few fans that were for the opposing team, the West Virginia Mountaineers. These particular West Virginia fans acted very obnoxious. This leads me to the next sociological concept I observed: deviance. Deviance is behavior that violates social norms that are expected in society. In this situation the act of being obnoxious was not considered unusual but the foul language that the fans were saying was considered deviant. OSU promotes a family friendly environment. Feminist spirituality is an expression of a current theology that has originated in Latin America that emphasizes the theme of liberation from oppression (CTM p. 255). Although these kinds of attacks are exceptional cases, man made disasters; blast loads are in fact dynamic loads that need to be carefully calculated just like earthquake and wind loads. The use of bombs to attack the cities by terrorist organizations around the world. A bomb explosion within or immediately nearby a building can cause catastrophic damage on the building s external and internal structural frames, collapsing of walls, blowing out of large expanses of windows, and shutting down of critical life safety systems. Loss of life and injuries to occupants can result from many causes, including direct blast effects, structural collapse, debris impact, fire, and smoke. The indirect effects can combine to inhibit or prevent timely evacuation, thereby contributing to additional casualties. Due to the threat from such extreme loading conditions, efforts have been made during the past decades to develop methods of structural analysis and design to resist blast loads. • 27. Robert Frost Poems Analysis Robert Frost is a poet who is known for writing simple stories that contains deeper meanings about life. In The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening both depict measuring life s decisions as a piece of the account. These poems signify a journey, where one must choose between two paths in life. In both poems, the speakers reach a point of uncertainty in their journeys. Although both stories have similar aspects in life decisions, there are some differences. These differences are based on impulses. We can deduce this based on how each speaker reacted to their decisions in the path they take in life. The following shows how decisions can affect a person s viewpoint. In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening the speaker is on a journey in a snowy environment. He has doubts due to being in a secluded place, a place that s far away from civilization. He stops to enjoy the beauty and the serenity of the snow falling in the woods. He describes the woods as gradually fill up with snow (Line 4). He s confused as to why he is so far away from any houses: To stop without a farmhouse near (Line 6). This allows him to capture an image and embrace the beauty of the snow falling. He even describes how the wind is easy and he is aware of everything around him. (Frost 89). Although he is enjoying the moment the speaker knows he must come to a decision and move on. This shows that the speaker knows that although he can enjoy the moment, he has to continue with his life The woods are lovely...but I have promises to keep (Line 13 14). In the poem, The Road Not Taken , the speaker must decide the path he is taking. This poem is about a person who comes to a road, and which path he must take. • 28. How Did The Union Win The Civil War A Turning Point During the time of the civil war, there were a lot of things that happened that affected the outcome of the civil war. When this war started, both sides had reason to believe that they would win, but both were surprised that the war was going to be longer and much more difficult than expected. After this long and difficult war, it is safe to be said that the turning points and advantages that helped the Union win this war were the resource ratio advantage, the population differential advantage, the battle of Gettysburg, Emancipation Proclamation, and Sherman s March. The civil war was a four year long war. Four years worth of war requires four years worth of materials. Although this seems like such a small thing that plays a factor in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The battles were fought in effort for the North to take over all of America in order to run all of this land the Northern way instead of having the South run it a different way down South. The battle of Gettysburg was memorable because this all changed. During this battle the South for the first time went on the offensive to try and push the North further back into their territory and attacked them. The two sides battled for three days until the North gained the upper hand and won the battle. Document 6 says this about the end of the battle, The Union victory at the Battle of Gettysburg, sometimes referred to as the High Water Mark of the Rebellion resulted not only in Lee s retreat for Virginia, but an end to the hopes of the confederate states of America for independence (Document 6). This quote is explaining the fact that the Lee and his army was not going to be able to force the North back so they were eventually doomed. Without the force to push the enemy back you are going to be overrun so this was a turning point in the war when this was realized. This may be seen as a turning point in the war which it is, but it can also be considered an advantage. Since the North could not be over run there was not as much pressure on them because they knew they could defend and they did not have to be as worried of attack. The North used this advantage on its journey of winning the civil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of Canada s priorities in regards to Arctic Sovereignty should be to protect the Inuit people not only because they are experiencing a loss in culture, but the Circumpolar Inuit Declaration on Arctic Sovereignty also declares that the Inuit have rights to the resources and the land upon which they live on. Due to the receding Arctic ice there is now a partially open route through the Northwest Passage during certain parts of the year, which could pose a possible threat to Canada. According to the Canadian Ice Service and the US National Ice Center, the passage is almost clear and more than ever since the beginning of routine monitoring in 1972 (The Northwest Passage: In Dispute and Navigable). The opening of this passage has now sparked the interest of the US and Russia in wanting it to be officially deemed as international waters. The Northwest Passage is 7000km shorter than the Panama Canal from Europe to Asia (Byers). This would mean that international shipping companies would be able to save a great deal of time and money. There could also be the possibility to use super tankers to transport oil which is impossible to do through the Panama Canal (Byers). There are ship manufacturers that are currently designing and building vessels that would be able to withstand ice (Byers). The cruise ship industry is also interested in the use of the passage (Byers). There is a Russian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Sectional Tension Dbq Throughout much of the mid nineteenth century Northern and Southern states remained locked in a fierce debate over the issues of slavery, state s rights, and taxation. This partitioning between the North and the South is evident when examining the election of 1860. Abraham Lincoln, a Northerner and product of the Republican party, faced opposition from Southern Democrats to such a great extent that he did not even make the ballot in the South. The South was so angry at the prospect of a Northern Republican becoming president and possibly interfering with their rights that upon Lincoln s election, they seceded from the Union, leading up to the bloodiest war the United States had ever taken part in: the Civil War. This lack of conflict resolution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This set of 6 proposed Constitutional amendments was one of the last congressional attempts to preserve the union without resorting to a full blown war with the South. This proposal was ineffective because Congress found that the proposed amendments, one of which would have made slave ownership a Constitutional right in the South, conceded too much to Southern extremists and thus it was never passed. This compromise also would have extended the slave demarcation line, splitting the United States in two sections and exacerbating the extent to which their were two divisive political parties; one for Northern rights and one for Southern rights. By the time the Crittenden Compromise was proposed slavery was no longer an issue which only pertained to the maintenance of a political balance of power but it had also become a moral issue. This made Northern voters much less likely to support a compromise that did not directly place a limit on slavery, much less one that made it a Constitutional Amendment. With Northern voters beginning to vehemently stand up for their beliefs against slavery and state authority and Southern voters still refusing to back down from theirs, the ineffectiveness of past compromises was ... • 32. What Is The Critique Of The Movie Trumbo McCarthyism, an incident that invoked a dark age upon movie writers and writers in general, teaches about how society lived in a time of fear, anger, and skepticism towards differences, just how the starring role in the movie Trumbo (acted by yourself), which amazed me, takes the viewers through a tour of the life of a writer affected by these negative impulses from society. Trumbo kept me enthralled all the way through, and my attention just couldn t break away from it. Every element in it executed remarkably well, from the vividly enriched acting, to the heavily sharp themes, to the characters that boomed with personality, and even to the gracefully dim screenplay. There exists a sizable amount of illustrated life lessons to love and to learn about the film not only in the movie itself, but in its themes, its acting, and its screenplay as well. This letter to you expresses my praise for your effort put into the movie s, and thanks you for giving us such an awesome film to review in our class. To begin with, the movie s screenplay fantastically dramatized the movie itself. In fact, the film s screenplay managed to obtain a nomination for the Writers Guild of America Award in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. One reason why it kept me entertained consists in every line of dialogue incorporating a staggering amount of character into it, that it feels as if they recorded them in the exact moment the characters exclaimed them. And the fantastic dialogue itself worked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Compare And Contrast New England And Massachusetts Bay... During the 17th and 18th centuries, many English colonists settled into colonies in America, otherwise known as the New World . There were many reasons to do so, whether it be for economic benefit or to avoid religious persecution. These original 13 colonies began developing fast with the help from the English, growing population wise and government wise. Two specific areas included the New England and Chesapeake colonies. The Chesapeake colonies included Maryland and Virginia, while the colonies of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and the Massachusetts Bay colony were part of the New England colonies. These two colonial societies shared a few similarities regarding the development of their religion and economy, they also had a few differences. Religion plays a major part in many societies, especially the first 13 colonies. Some colonies were even settled solely to have freedom of religion and escape from religious persecution. Massachusetts was one example, as the Puritans first went to Plymouth in 1620 seeking religious freedom. In terms of the New England colonies overall, they remained Puritan. The idea of religious toleration was restricted to only the Puritan religion. The marketing strategy of the CMF launch on the U.S. market was well planned. A celebrity Emily Procter was invited to make advertising. According to Hofstede s typology, the U.S. belong to an individualistic culture and Emily Procter was known for her individual success, the consumers were expected to follow her. As individuals are concerned primarily with their own interests and are concentrated on good appearance, fresh breath and white teeth are important components of their attractiveness. U.S. also belong to a masculine culture where material success and assertiveness are of great value (which Emily Procter communicates). The packaging was thought out properly: liquid bottle form with mini breath strips clearly visible through the clear plastic container. According to Martin Ross (1995) sensory brand images would perform well in countries where high individualism is a dominant cultural pattern , a product with sensory appeal provides novelty, variety, and sensory gratification . CMF embodied this image. CMF achieved phenomenal success accounting for over 40% of the company s revenues along with the products released after 2000. Question2. A Vindication Of The Rights Of Men Mary Wollstonecraft s epistolary essay A Vindication of the Rights of Men acts as a direct, scathing response to Edmund Burke s opinionated piece regarding the French Revolution, Reflections on the Revolution in France . The Oxford English Dictionary states that satire is ... [A] work of art which uses humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize prevailing immorality or foolishness, esp.
