The Rampage of Polio
During the twentieth century Americans were afraid. They were afraid of the Russians, they were
afraid of the economy, they were afraid of Hitler, and they were afraid of polio. A disease as
indiscriminate as a nuclear bomb, it struck young and old, rich and poor, white and black. It caused
fear and hysteria, confusion and anger, paralysis, and even death. By this time the United States had
endured smallpox, cholera, yellow fever, and tuberculosis; but it had never experienced a wide spread
epidemic of a disease that seemed to specifically target children before the twentieth century.
Although polio effects people of all ages, children are the most susceptible due to their weak immune
systems. Many victims of polio were partially or completely paralyzed, and thousands died. The
summer plague would run rampant in the United States for nearly four decades. Before the 1890 s
polio was fairly common but largely unknown. The disease was very common in early history due to a
lack of sanitation but because many people contracted the disease they developed immunity to that
strain at an early age. If the infected persons lived through the early infection they were then immune
to that particular strain of polio. This meant that in excess of 90% of some populations were immune,
while less than 0.5% were paralyzed due to polio. Evidence has been found of polio in the ancient
world. Some scientists believe hieroglyph depictions of people

Summary Of Farhad Manjoo s Breaking News Is Broken
Farhad Manjoo (2013) argued in his aptly titled piece Breaking News is Broken , that living in a
breaking news society means that we receive information faster than we can make sense of it, and that
in essence, real life moves much slower than these technologies (Manjoo, 2013). Referencing the
Boston Marathon Bombings as an example in which major media outlets published inaccurate
information from online sources, he argued that major news outlets depend on technology that make it
possible to follow news too closely (Manjoo, 2013). Channels such as Twitter offer a direct route to
distribute a message or information to the general masses, often with little context for examining the
message s veracity (Ehrenberg, 2012:22).

The Start of My Love for Wrestling
I believe wrestling is one of the hardest sports around the world. There are only a few who stick
around throughout the season because they are willing to endure the pain. I had difficulties deciding
which sport to play, and I chose the one that called out to me the most. I had difficulties throughout the
season at first, and then I loved wrestling even more after it ended.
Ever since I was little and saw WWE RAW, a wrestling TV show, for the first time, I enjoyed
watching wrestling on TV. I would always jump up throwing my arms in the air when my favorite
wrestler was winning. I would invite some of my friends over on Saturdays to mimic the wrestling
moves that the wrestlers were doing from the TV on a trampoline in my backyard during the afternoon
because it looked awesome and it was very fun. The wrestling TV show inspired me to join wrestling
in High School. During my freshmen year in Oroville High School the winter sports basketball and
wrestling were about to start. I kept asking myself Agh, why do both of the sports I want to play have
to be at the same time? After the second week of school passed by since the fall sports started, some of
my friends in basketball kept telling me, You should play basketball because you got a fine arm.
I replied, I would have to think about it a bit more. Later on in the school day when I was in weight
training class the teacher, Coach Rice, who was also the wrestling coach called me over to talk
because he had seen

What Does It Means To Me
‒ What is it?
An imaginary sphere of infinite extent with the earth at its center and on which the stars, planets, and
other heavenly bodies appear to be located.
‒ My comment? What does it mean to me?
The stars occupy fixed positions on the surface of this celestial sphere , and the Earth rotates within it.
This is obviously not the case in real life but it is a good model because this is pretty much how things
look from our point of view.

Grief, Bereavement And Disenfranchised Grief
Abstract
This paper examines the implications of grief, bereavement and disenfranchised grief. Grief in
response to a loss is a unique experience and is expressed distinctively by every individual. It is
helpful to have models that outline the stages of grief that need to be experienced in order to achieve
acceptance. However, their utility is limited by the reality that grief is immeasurably complex and
individualized. Veterans and children are two groups at risk of developing disenfranchised grief.
Therefore, it will be important for nurses to be able to identify those suffering with disenfranchised
grief or other forms of maladaptive grief so appropriate intervention may be employed.
The Role and Impact of Grief, Bereavement, and Disenfranchised Grief
Loss is a phenomenon that is experienced by all. Death is experienced by family members as a unique
and elevated form of loss which is modulated by potent stages of grief. Inevitably, everyone will lose
someone with whom they had a personal relationship and emotional connection and thus experience
an aftermath that can generally be described as grief. Although bereavement, which is defined as a
state of sorrow over the death or departure of a loved one, is a universal experience it varies widely
across gender, age, and circumstance (definitions.net, 2015). Indeed the formalities and phases
associated with bereavement have been recounted and theorized in literature for years. These
philosophies are quite diverse but

Sildenafil Research Paper
There are not many drugs in the world that can be said to treat the erectile dysfunction. Most of such
drugs contain Sildenafil in some form or another. Viagra, probably the best known drug for ED is
based on this chemical as well. This chemical inhibits an important enzyme PDE5 which improves
blood flow in otherwise restricted areas such as the penis.
Kamagra is one of the forms of the Sildenafil drug which is commonly available to people around the
world. This formulation is usually developed in India and is a cheap yet effective alternative to more
common medicines that are prepared in the west and are very costly. One of the more potent forms of
the drug is available as Kamagra Oral Jelly in UK and can even work in a swifter manner.

A chemical change is a change that alters the identity of a substance. A chemical change can be
identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color
change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in
this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the
water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not
change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from
the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its
usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change
because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did
not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven
dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The vinegar did not change but the milk was curdled by the
vinegar. Although the milk was curdled, the milk remained milk. The composition stayed the same.
Each of these experiments showed no change in a substance so as it changed to another substance.
Chemical changes occurred in five out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. Although the
main focus of experiment two was

Compare And Contrast Phoenix Jackson And Montresor
Dying to Live:
Comparison of Phoenix Jackson and Montresor Everyone has motives good or bad. Some people are
inspired by love while others are motivated by pure hate. Individuals that are controlled by love tend
to do moral things; they generally brighten people s days and help others. On the contrary, people who
are moved by hate often do not make the best decisions. They make others feel down about
themselves. Personalities are contagious and one person acting by love will make someone else do the
same. This is also the case with hate. Being around a happy person makes one joyful; being
surrounded by hate causes bitterness. Short stories have many examples of characters that are under
these circumstances. In Eudora Welty s A Worn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montresor vowed revenge because Fortunato makes insults about Montresor s family (525; 1).
Montresor is not just going to make him feel bad; he wants to kill. The hatred inside of Montresor is
the driving force for his need to murder Fortunato. Montresor is also an extremely manipulative
character. He plays his house attendants by telling them strictly not to leave the house. He states,
These orders were sufficient, I well knew, to insure their immediate disappearance, one and all, as
soon as my back was turned (526; 24). This fixes the problems that would have arisen with any
witnesses. He also plays Fortunato in a few different ways. The strategy he uses the most is inspecting
Fortunato s wellbeing. Montresor pleads, Come, we will go back; your health is precious. You are
rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed. For me it
is no matter. We will go back; you will be ill, and I cannot be responsible (526; 35). Once Fortunato
hears Montresor say all of this about him, he quickly refuses to turn around. Montresor repeats this
tactic a couple more

Causes of Eating Disorders
Causes of eating disorders. The things that are contributing greatly to the increase of eating disorders
is the media. Many teenagers grow up being influenced by magazines, movies, and models and they
think that the only way that society will accept them is if they look exactly like those people. They
have the fear of becoming fat and being bullied. These kids are genuinely scared to grow up and have
to face body changes. there is also the other part of these disorders. Not all people who have an eating
disorder are skinny. There are also those who eat because they are stressed or have a low self esteem.
They are influenced by their parents. So that means that if their parents have the habit of always eating
or not eating, the children will pick up those same customs. Sometimes there are kids who are
physically or sexually abused and that causes them to look for comfort in food or just decide to not eat
properly. Fashion Statement The media has done a tremendously great job at advertising how the ideal
male or female should look. According to each era, this meaning has drastically changed. For
example, the 1950 s thought that the perfect woman was curvy and had an hourglass figure like
Marilyn Monroe, Diana Dors and Betty Grable. They did not think that skinny guys or girls were
attractive. For the past 25 years, it has been considered fashionable to be tall and skinny. An example
of this is Kate Moss famous quote Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels . She is a

Case Study Homeless Shelter
In this situation, the shelter director sees a problem with chronic repeaters seeking assistance in the
homeless shelter. My first thought in this case study is that he lacks empathy and understanding for
these homeless individuals. The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human
well being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs
and empowerment of individuals who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty (NASW, 2017).
Trying to keep people out of housing based on substance abuse and mental health issues is a clear
something that doesn t sit well with me. Working in the addiction field, I have seen a fair share of

substance abuse issues. Also, he is discriminating against this population by labeling them as

relationships. Social workers engage people as partners in the helping process. They also seek to
strengthen relationships among individuals in a persistent effort to promote, restore, maintain and
enhance the well being of individuals (NASW, 2017). Furthermore, by deeming vulnerable
populations as problematic his commitment to clients is lacking in a helping relationship. In this
situation, it s important to meet a person where they are in the recovery process. Socal workers must

Advantages Of Executive Compensation
Bonus plan or executive compensation is defined by Scott (2009, pg. 356) as: An executive
compensation plan is an agency contract between the firm and its managers that attempts to align the
interests of owners and managers by basing the manager s compensation on one or more measures of
the manager s performance in operating the firm Bonus contracts usually specify manager s reward on
the basis of earnings and share price. The rewards are usually under the form of cash, shares or
options. However, on the other hand, this strategy somehow pressures managers to manipulate
earnings to re ceive bonus at the end of financial year. Healey (1985) suggests that managers adjust
ment of accruals is affected by income reporting incentives of their bonus contract and that changes in
accounting procedures are associated with modification of their bonus plan. Even if earning for one
financial year is so low that nothing can be done to meet expectations, ... Show more content on

On the other hand, manager hopes that by doing so, in the years later, earnings will be less burdened
by those expenses. How can managers afford to do so? Given their right to use judgment, they will
deliberately choose income decreasing accruals in calculating financial numbers such as deferring
revenue or accelerating write offs (Healy, 1985). Big bath strategy can easily be excused as the
practice of conservatism principle which favors recording lower earnings if there is any doubt. Big
bath usually happens at the last quarter reports, in which managers have the clear pic ture of their
operation in a year and can confirm that their companies are not going to reach the earnings
expectation. Nikolai et al. (2010, pg. 513) suggest that expense charge that is most used in big bath
technique is impairment loss on long term

Chesapeake Bay Ecosystem Research Paper
Chapter II: Conservation of Specific Functions, Habitats, Features and Species
Many habitats in the Chesapeake Bay watershed are degrading by time and losing their functionality.
Because it sounds as Utopia to conserve and protect all the habitats in such a complex ecosystem, the
most important habitats shall be targeted. These specific habitats are the wetlands, riparian forest and
streams. Each of these habitats represents one of the essential landscape ecology principles. Wetlands
act as buffer zone and provide critical habitat to some species in the Bay. It is important to sustain the
Estuarine Emergent Wetlands in order to provide a place for breeding, nursery and reproduction. The
riparian forest buffer represents the patch edge which normally functions as a filter that reduces the
surrounding influence on the interior patch, the Bay and wetlands (Dramstad, Olson and Forman,
1996:29). The forests filter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, the streams or river systems act as corridors. A continuous stream corridor is necessary to
maintain landscape connectivity and aquatic conditions including cool water temperature and high
oxygen content (Dramstad, Olson and Forman, 1996:40).
The above mentioned habitats are crucial because it support priority species in the Bay. Although
more than 3,600 different species of plants and animals live in the tidal waters of the Bay, there are
priority species that shall be protected. The most important keystone species are the Blue Crab, the
Oysters, the Bald Eagle and the Black Duck. Keystone species are valuable components at the
community scale because they maintain biodiversity and influence critical ecological process (Peck,
1998:34). Blue crabs not only

A typical company product line consisted of about 200 tools plus accessories, for which a variety of
sizes and price points were available. The portable power tool market was becoming increasingly
segmented by price point. Circular saws, for example, ranged in price from $24.99 to

An Academic Critique Of A Research Article By Karen L....
This paper is an academic critique of a research article by Karen L. Gischlar and Joanne P. Vesay
entitled: Literacy Curricula and Assessment: A Survey of Early Childhood Educators in two States. I
was attracted to this article because being an early educator myself, I know how important literacy
instructions is in the early years. It intrigued me to read about the types of curricula and assessment
used by other educators to assess young children learning. The purpose of the article was to survey
early childhood educators regarding their literacy practices and the assessments implemented in their
classroom. However, the goal was to determine to what extent preschool teachers addressed literacy
skills areas through classroom instructions. (Gischlar Vesay 2014, p. 298). The authors believed that
teachers should be using literacy curricula to teach literacy skills and get proper training in how to
monitor students progress. If such curricula are not being implemented, then explicit instructions in
early literacy instruction should be conducted daily. This paper will provide a critical review of the
methods used, the result of the study and the authors discussion of the article. In the article, the
authors stress the importance of literacy education in the early years. In fact, it is noted that pre school
years are critical to the development of early literacy skills that will lay the foundation for future
reading skills and help present problems from developing (Gischlar

Comparing War Poems Exposure And War Photographer
In war poems, war is always condemned, dispraised and demonstrated as a futile and tragic event. In
both poems, War Photographer by Duffy and Exposure by Owen, poets illustrate their suffering and
acrimony of conditions of war.
War Photographer is an inspiration of the friendship of the poet with a photographer of war. It is also
an illustration of the brutality of war and the apathy of those who might see the photos in newspapers.
Whereas, Exposure is a poem written by a solider who was honoured for his bravery and then was
killed in the battle; therefore, Exposure has more authenticity.
Both poets show a sense of duty in their poems and they use several imageries. For instance, in
Exposure, Owen conveys physical and mental suffering when he says Our ... Show more content on

In Exposure, Owen uses a contradiction of cold and warm to express the solider s delusional mind

In War Photographer, encampment reinforces the sense of chaos and anarchy of the world, whilst in
Exposure, Owen uses a burden in the first, third, fourth and final stanza with a short half line, But
nothing happens , which creates a circular structure implying never ending suffering.
Moreover, Owen heightens our awareness of the conditions under which men ludicrously suffer by his
application of alliteration and personification. Furthermore, he presents war with a picture of
communal endurances, togetherness, and courage by the use of repetition of pronouns, we and our .
On the other hand, the poetic techniques that Duffy implies is mostly hallucinative imagery.
In Exposure, Owen uses a regular pattern of ABBA, which creates the sense of status and an emphasis
on monotony. Whereas in war photographer, the rhyme encourages the idea that he is trying to bring
order and demands to a chaotic

Writing Style Of Frankenstein
Mary Shelley writing style for the novel Frankenstein is very special as it is written in a creative
narrative point of view even though when reading it there are times when one can forget that Robert
Walton is the true singular narrator. Frankenstein is both a frame narrative and a story within a story,
the story within the story is seen through Walton telling of Victor s telling of the Creature s story.
Mary Shelley s writing style can clearly be seen in the novel with the letters from Robert Walton to his
sister in which you can see the narrative point of view, however as you continue to chapter one it
becomes hard to see that as it becomes the story within a story which then again happens when the
creature tell Victor about what he has been doing since he was created. All of theses events are told by
Walton yet it is hard to tell as the novel began to use words like I and my as if Victor was the narrator
for example I am by birth a Genevese, and my family is one of the most distinguished of that republic.
(19) which is describing Victor yet it seems as he is saying it. This can be seen throughout the main
part of the story but towards the end with You have read this strange and terrific story, Margaret...
(182) you can again see that Walton has been the narrator the whole time. Frankenstein is a novel that
is full of memorable quotes many of which have a much deeper meaning, one of the first ones is What

otherwise and talks of how he is lucky to have all this time to say goodbye (Albom 57). Morrie shows
here how he sees the true humanity through the sorrow and is happy for every moment he is given. He
even continues to use it as a teaching topic to show others how they should live their lives. People s
morale was not so bad: we were beginning to get used to the situation. There were those who even
voiced optimism (Weisel 20). Even through all that Elie and the Jewish people faced, they always
maintained their hope. While many were scared, there was always optimism that things would be okay
and back to normal eventually. This optimism shows the humanity of the Jewish people and Elie, even
though they faced true evil and inhumanity. The happiness of Morrie and the optimism of Elie and his
people, show that even in dark times people will maintain their

The Influence Of The Hippie Subculture
A new Identity for American Youth An essay on how the teenage ideology was influenced by the
Hippie subculture
Born from the social turmoil, and the differing opinions of people during the Vietnam War. The Hippie
movement first gained traction in American Colleges and Universities. These young adults during the
1950s, are considered to be the very first pioneers of the hippie subculture. Through the youths
rebellious nature against the main ideals of society, and the growing popularity of the hippie
subculture, hippies, through the 50s up until the 80s, have managed to cultivate and solidify a new
concept of social behavior in young adults: The teenager. This essay will show us how the hippie

No doubt, John Lennon wrote this song under the influence of the hippie subculture. This song helped
bring awareness to the public and teenagers alike, about the values of the Hippies. Another influential
song of the Hippie era is Fortunate Son by the group Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song is a
protest against the United States involvement in the Vietnam war, as the Hippies saw that the US
Army s involvement in the war as a mistake. Fortunate Son addresses the issue of the discriminating
way the government used forced conscription to recruit new soldiers as they forced the poor
population to fight much more often than people who held more political power. As much as fifty five
percent of the fighting force belonged in the working class. The message this song sends, closely
associates with the Hippie subculture view of the vietnam war. This song, also being very popular to
the teenage population, inspired teenagers to rebel against the government and societal norm, causing
teenagers to become more aware of the Hippie subculture (since rebelling against societal norms was
one of their underlying ethics.) One more artist who contributed to the change of impression in
teenagers is Buffalo Springfield. For what it s worth is another protest song written in 1966. Although
the literal meaning of the song is about hippies protesting a curfew at their favorite

Essay On The Great Mughal Era
INTRODUCTION
The Indian subcontinent experienced a huge shift in the economical and social conditions with the
advent of the first Mughal emperor, Babar. Babar introduced reforms of which the natives were not
used to. His successors continued the same policies, with each implementing his own will. This report
is targeted on the social and economical reforms each of the great Mughal brought. Each period is
unique in its own sense.
AKBAR (11 February 1556 27 October 1605)
Social Reforms
Akbar s reign is considered as one the most progressive and productive reigns of the great Mughals.
Akbar s reign significantly influenced the course of Indian history. During his rule, the Mughal
Empire tripled in size and wealth. His period is noted not only for the developments and reforms that
he introduced but also for the flourishment in the arts and architecture. We also come to see that there
is huge turn in the religious conditions (Deen e Ilahi). Through the analysis of socio economic ...

Jahangir was highly keen in coming to power. Even in the lifetime of his father, Akbar and during his

The Samaritan Paradox

Altruism within society s standards can be described as a selfless concern or action for others (Webster
s Dictionary 2012). On September 25, 2012, an Oregon teenager named Marcus Ugarte bravely
entered a burning house in order to bring a young child named Cody Ma to safety (ABC News 2012).
Both families had never met previously, but there was no hesitation on Marcus part of climbing up to
the second story of the house to save Cody. Marcus risked his own life and was able to guide Cody out
of the house and down the ladder. He is being heralded as a hero in his community of Troutdale for his
courageous actions. Another example of how altruism can be viewed in today s society can be seen in
the works of Mother Teresa and her plethora of altruistic acts throughout the globe. Although her
focus was in India where she persued her novitiate (training), her organization has opened over 500
centers around the world helping the dying and the destitute (Moore 2002, pg. x). She took in the
untouchables of society and gave them care and made sure that they were comfortable. Mother Teresa
is often used as the benchmark when determining whether a selfless act is truly altruistic. Even in
nature you see acts of altruism. An example is the meerkat; who participates in a cooperative breeding
and feeding, and community guarding. The dominant males and females are the chosen , which are

Essay on Asian American History
Nowadays, United States is often associated with the term melting pot , which refers to the
assimilation of immigrants who were initially heterogeneous with their own distinct backgrounds.
Corresponding to that fact, racial discrimination has been significantly reduced within melting pot , in
which people gradually understand the differences between them without aversion. However, back in
the past, many Americans conceived of Asians as strangers. They were not willing to understand and
embrace the biological and cultural differences that set Asian immigrants apart from Europeans and
early Americans. Coolie trade, which brought numerous Asian immigrants to the United States as

their own American dream to achieve citizenships and prosperity, and in order to accomplish their

that can be made between Asian immigrants and American laborers was there was no justice for
Asians. They were purposely denied the resources to defend themselves and influence legislation by
Americans like Samuel Gompers who deviously published lies that suggested that Asian immigrants
were willing to accept the poor working conditions and low wages in order to dominate over their
competitors. Eventually, Asian immigrants began to dominate the American job market; as a result,
American and European laborers started to view them as threats and lobbied for discriminatory laws
which resulted in immigration quotas. In order to hinder the success and progress of Asian
immigrants, many Americans like Samuel Gompers viewed them as strangers and prevented them
from gaining equal protection under the law which further isolated from the major society. In 1879,

Sepsis Is A Poisoning Of The System By Disease Carrying...
Sepsis was known in the old days as blood Poisoning because it is A poisoning of the system by
disease carrying bacteria and their toxins absorbed into the bloodstream, as from festering wounds,
according to the World Book Encyclopedia Dictionary. 1 Because Sepsis is a severe and often fatal
disease and thought to cause 44,000 deaths a year, it is most important that it be recognized early and
treated aggressively with utmost and urgent care. If not treated early it can lead to shock and multiple
organ failure and even death. It kills more people than breast, bowel, and prostate cancer combined;
however, it can be treated successfully if detected early on. 2. Erin Dean Sepsis does not arise on its
own. It stems from another medical condition such as an infection in the lungs, urinary tract, skin,
abdomen (such as appendicitis) or other part of the body. Invasive medical procedures like the
insertion of a vascular catheter can introduce bacteria into the bloodstream and bring on the condition.
Many different types of microbes can cause sepsis, including bacteria, fungi and viruses, but bacteria
are the most common culprits. Severe cases often result from a body wide infection that spreads
through the bloodstream, but sepsis can also stem from a localized infection. All healthcare
professionals should treat suspected sepsis with the same urgency as a heart attack, according to the
National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. (NICE) 3. Patients who are at higher

The Statue Of Ramesses II
In the late 19th century, the Seated Statue of Ramesses II was uncovered in the Temple of Harsaphes,
Heracleopolis, by Sir William Flinders Petrie (Horne 1985, 22). Currently, it rests in the Mummies
Gallery in the Egyptian section of the Penn Museum. The king sits heroically with his hands resting
on his lap and wears the nemes headdress on his head. Made of quartzite sandstone, the statue sits at
an impressive height of 226 cm, with a width of 74 cm and length of 149 cm. On his arms, there are
faint traces of red and the nemes headdress has touches of blue and yellow. When it was originally
crafted, the statue s colors would have been more prominent than they currently are; there also would
have been a false beard inset that has been lost to history.
Since being discovered, the statue has been found to feature aspects of two different dynasties, the
13th and the 19th (Horne 1985, 22). The inscriptions along the base and throne detail the various
names and titles held by Ramesses II. Also, along the left side of the throne, there is evidence of a
carving error in which a duck was intended to face in the direction of the knees of the pharaoh. In the
hieroglyphs, the artisan carved the signs the wrong way and attempted to cover the mistake with a
plaster filling. On the right side of the throne, the meaning is the same as that on the left because the
hieroglyphs are a reflection of each other; however, the duck is in the correct direction. It is because

Conclusion:
Within this experiment we could verify the passage of water from a region of high concentration
through a region of a lower concentration for when the potato was surrounded by a concentrated
environment (lower water potential) the potato lost mass, and when it was surrounded by a dilute
environment (higher water potential) it gained mass.
We could also estimate, with the graph, the concentration at which the potato neither loses nor gains
mass, that is when the water potential inside the potato is equal to the one outside. This equilibrium
occurs at 0,345M.(aprox.)

(2011), Jean Watson s theoretical framework lies in carative factors, transpersonal caring relationship,
and caring moment. This implies basically that the core of nursing is in caring and other qualities of
nursing as a profession builds on it. Her assumptions of caring affirms that in all we do to assist a
client, caring is the most important. She claimed that without caring, curing cannot effectively occur.
Gonzalo (2011), refers to caring as being more healthogenic than curing because it integrates
biophysical knowledge with knowledge of human behavior to generate or promote health and to
provide ministrations to those who are ill. He also concluded in his review of Jean Watson s work that
the science of caring is complementary to the science of curing . MSU s department of nursing
associates with Jean Watson s human caring theory as pointed out in the holistic health aspect of its
theoretical constructs. This section strongly reflect the ideas of Jean Watson. Pros of the theory * It
presents distinct difference between nursing and other health care professions * It is logical and easy
to apply to various practice situations * It presents nurses with a good view at nursing Cons of the
theory * Caring alone isn t enough as the health care system now incorporates technology in client s
care. Therefore, with the caring model and its processes, nurses need to find a blend where technology
has its place. Madeleine Leininger s Culture Care

Arguments Against Indigenous Self Government
Prior to contact with Europeans, Indigenous peoples relied on their own established ways of political
systems and institutions, in other words, Indigenous peoples were a self governing society. However,
many of these political systems were legally suppressed and ignored by the federal government as an
attempt to assimilate and civilize Indigenous peoples. The 1876 Indian Act dismantled traditional
systems of governance and imposed external controls in the form of local Indian agents and the
federal bureaucracy of the Department of Indian Affairs (now Indigenous and Northern Affairs
Canada) on individuals and communities (Henderson, 2006). Indigenous peoples have been trying to

and inequality, the Department of Defense (DoD) mandated race relations training in 1971. The
violent and nonviolent disorders of the late 1960s were the catalyst that convinced military leaders that
race relations education must be provided to every member of the Armed Forces. An inter service task
force examined the causes and possible cures of these racial disorders within the military. The task
force, chaired by Air Force Major General Lucius Theus, resulted in Department of Defense Directive
1322.11. This directive established the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The situation in today s Army is clearly much different from what existed years ago. Many changes
have occurred, moving the Army s EO program from a strictly educational and training initiative to a
multifaceted management program with clear goals and objectives. These goals and objectives are also
an integral part of human relations and are nurtured and developed through a professional military
education system. The concept of the EO program is to formulate, direct, and sustain a comprehensive
effort to maximize human potential. It strives to ensure fair treatment of all soldiers is based solely on
merit, fitness, capability, and potential in support of readiness. EO philosophy is based on fairness,
justice, and equity. It places the responsibility for sustaining a positive EO climate within a unit on its
commander. The U.S. Army will provide EO and fair treatment for military personnel and family
members without regard to race, color, religion, gender, or national origin, and provide an
environment free of unlawful discrimination and offensive behavior. The assignment and utilization of
female soldiers are the only exceptions to our non biased personnel management process. AR 600 13,
Army Policy for the Assignment of Female Soldiers, prescribes policies, procedures, responsibilities,
and the position coding

Incinerators And Its Effects On The Environment
On average humans produce around 4.3 pounds of trash per day ( Municipal Solid Waste ). With 7
billion people and counting the amount of trash being generated is increasing ( United States Census ).
All of our bottles, wrappers and food is being thrown away and entering our landfills. Landfills are
man made structures that are carefully designed to separate trash, we produce, from other land areas.
These structures are made so that the trash and the byproducts of it do not contaminate groundwater or
the environment around it ( Learn about Landfills ). Some ways that individuals can reduce the
amount of trash that ends up in landfills is to recycle, donate, reduce food waste, and purchase
materials with less packaging ( 15 Easy Ways ). It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then in 1953 the Hooker Chemical company covered it with soil and sold it to the city for one dollar,
after years of dumping waste in it. So in the late 1950 s, approximately one hundred homes and a
school would be built on top of the waste cite and people would inhabit the area. Then around 1978
Love Canal exploded after heavy rainfalls that produced methane gas, a highly explosive compound.
After years of depositing waste in the canal, it found its way out into the environment. In the Love
Canal community puddles of chemicals could be seen throughout the neighborhood; they were in
backyards, on school grounds, and in the residents basements. The children of Love Canal would
come back to their homes from playing with chemical burns on their bodies. Beck, author of The Love
Canal Tragedy, described the air as having a choking smell to it. He even observed that the
environment, trees and gardens, were turning black and dying the toxic substances were strong enough
to kill the environment. Not only did it harm the residents physically it harmed them internally. Toxins
are known to cause genetic damage and can cause the development of the fetus to be altered. As a
result, many birth defects and miscarriages were reported. Babies were being born with cleft lip, deaf,
extra rows of teeth, eye defects or slight retardation. Additionally, many residents showed signs of
high white blood cell counts, which could indicate leukemia (Beck). Overall, the effects of the

Comparing El Paso, Texas And London Essay
Imagine yourself moving to a different city. You have looked at all the cities you would most likely
move to and you have finally picked out that El Paso, Texas and London, England are your two final
choices. After narrowing down the options to two cities its important to look at similarities and
differences. Although El Paso, Texas and London, England are similar in their cheap housing and
exuberant job opportunities, they differ in their getaways, job opportunities, and housing. El Paso and
London are very similar in that the cities don t only offer housing at a very affordable rate, but also
have created ways to employ its citizens. The similarities between the cities affordable homes is that
both are using cheaper areas to reconstruct or build new homes. This causes cheaper rent and
mortgages. A similar way the cities are creating jobs is through teaching skills. El Paso offers the Jobs
Corps which provides a counselor to walk students through steps in getting a job. London also offers a
mentor to help guide employees through the daily routines and requirements to get the job. The two
similarities of the cities are just a few, but there are differences as well. El Paso has many enjoyable
adventures. Pamela Porter quotes Mike Episcopo saying, You ve got 2 million peopl in the El Paso
Juarez area, but when you get up in the canyons, it s like you r in the middle of nowhere (qtd. in Porter
1). To some, being in the middle of nowhere might sound like a bore, but to

  • 2. The Rampage of Polio During the twentieth century Americans were afraid. They were afraid of the Russians, they were afraid of the economy, they were afraid of Hitler, and they were afraid of polio. A disease as indiscriminate as a nuclear bomb, it struck young and old, rich and poor, white and black. It caused fear and hysteria, confusion and anger, paralysis, and even death. By this time the United States had endured smallpox, cholera, yellow fever, and tuberculosis; but it had never experienced a wide spread epidemic of a disease that seemed to specifically target children before the twentieth century. Although polio effects people of all ages, children are the most susceptible due to their weak immune systems. Many victims of polio were partially or completely paralyzed, and thousands died. The summer plague would run rampant in the United States for nearly four decades. Before the 1890 s polio was fairly common but largely unknown. The disease was very common in early history due to a lack of sanitation but because many people contracted the disease they developed immunity to that strain at an early age. If the infected persons lived through the early infection they were then immune to that particular strain of polio. This meant that in excess of 90% of some populations were immune, while less than 0.5% were paralyzed due to polio. Evidence has been found of polio in the ancient world. Some scientists believe hieroglyph depictions of people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Farhad Manjoo s Breaking News Is Broken Farhad Manjoo (2013) argued in his aptly titled piece Breaking News is Broken , that living in a breaking news society means that we receive information faster than we can make sense of it, and that in essence, real life moves much slower than these technologies (Manjoo, 2013). Referencing the Boston Marathon Bombings as an example in which major media outlets published inaccurate information from online sources, he argued that major news outlets depend on technology that make it possible to follow news too closely (Manjoo, 2013). Channels such as Twitter offer a direct route to distribute a message or information to the general masses, often with little context for examining the message s veracity (Ehrenberg, 2012:22). ... • 4. The Start of My Love for Wrestling I believe wrestling is one of the hardest sports around the world. There are only a few who stick around throughout the season because they are willing to endure the pain. I had difficulties deciding which sport to play, and I chose the one that called out to me the most. I had difficulties throughout the season at first, and then I loved wrestling even more after it ended. Ever since I was little and saw WWE RAW, a wrestling TV show, for the first time, I enjoyed watching wrestling on TV. I would always jump up throwing my arms in the air when my favorite wrestler was winning. I would invite some of my friends over on Saturdays to mimic the wrestling moves that the wrestlers were doing from the TV on a trampoline in my backyard during the afternoon because it looked awesome and it was very fun. The wrestling TV show inspired me to join wrestling in High School. During my freshmen year in Oroville High School the winter sports basketball and wrestling were about to start. I kept asking myself Agh, why do both of the sports I want to play have to be at the same time? After the second week of school passed by since the fall sports started, some of my friends in basketball kept telling me, You should play basketball because you got a fine arm. I replied, I would have to think about it a bit more. Later on in the school day when I was in weight training class the teacher, Coach Rice, who was also the wrestling coach called me over to talk because he had seen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An imaginary sphere of infinite extent with the earth at its center and on which the stars, planets, and other heavenly bodies appear to be located. ‒ My comment? What does it mean to me? The stars occupy fixed positions on the surface of this celestial sphere , and the Earth rotates within it. This is obviously not the case in real life but it is a good model because this is pretty much how things look from our point of view. ‒ What is it? Angles and linear dimensions are measured by the small angle equation. This equation involves the angular size of an object, its linear size, and its distance. ‒ My comment? What does it mean to me? a = angular size, expressed in seconds of arc. d = diameter of the object as d D = object s distance ‒ What is it? The declination of an object as observed on the celestial sphere is the angle measured along the hour circle of that object to the celestial equator. ‒ What is it? • 7. Grief, Bereavement And Disenfranchised Grief Abstract This paper examines the implications of grief, bereavement and disenfranchised grief. Grief in response to a loss is a unique experience and is expressed distinctively by every individual. It is helpful to have models that outline the stages of grief that need to be experienced in order to achieve acceptance. However, their utility is limited by the reality that grief is immeasurably complex and individualized. Veterans and children are two groups at risk of developing disenfranchised grief. Therefore, it will be important for nurses to be able to identify those suffering with disenfranchised grief or other forms of maladaptive grief so appropriate intervention may be employed. The Role and Impact of Grief, Bereavement, and Disenfranchised Grief Loss is a phenomenon that is experienced by all. Death is experienced by family members as a unique and elevated form of loss which is modulated by potent stages of grief. Inevitably, everyone will lose someone with whom they had a personal relationship and emotional connection and thus experience an aftermath that can generally be described as grief. Although bereavement, which is defined as a state of sorrow over the death or departure of a loved one, is a universal experience it varies widely across gender, age, and circumstance (definitions.net, 2015). Indeed the formalities and phases associated with bereavement have been recounted and theorized in literature for years. These philosophies are quite diverse but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A chemical change is a change that alters the identity of a substance. A chemical change can be identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The vinegar did not change but the milk was curdled by the vinegar. Although the milk was curdled, the milk remained milk. The composition stayed the same. Each of these experiments showed no change in a substance so as it changed to another substance. Chemical changes occurred in five out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. • 10. Compare And Contrast Phoenix Jackson And Montresor Dying to Live: Comparison of Phoenix Jackson and Montresor Everyone has motives good or bad. Some people are inspired by love while others are motivated by pure hate. Individuals that are controlled by love tend to do moral things; they generally brighten people s days and help others. On the contrary, people who are moved by hate often do not make the best decisions. They make others feel down about themselves. Personalities are contagious and one person acting by love will make someone else do the same. This is also the case with hate. Being around a happy person makes one joyful; being surrounded by hate causes bitterness. Short stories have many examples of characters that are under these circumstances. Montresor is not just going to make him feel bad; he wants to kill. The hatred inside of Montresor is the driving force for his need to murder Fortunato. Montresor is also an extremely manipulative character. He plays his house attendants by telling them strictly not to leave the house. He states, These orders were sufficient, I well knew, to insure their immediate disappearance, one and all, as soon as my back was turned (526; 24). This fixes the problems that would have arisen with any witnesses. He also plays Fortunato in a few different ways. The strategy he uses the most is inspecting Fortunato s wellbeing. Montresor pleads, Come, we will go back; your health is precious. You are rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed. For me it is no matter. We will go back; you will be ill, and I cannot be responsible (526; 35). Once Fortunato hears Montresor say all of this about him, he quickly refuses to turn around. • 11. Causes of Eating Disorders Causes of eating disorders. The things that are contributing greatly to the increase of eating disorders is the media. Many teenagers grow up being influenced by magazines, movies, and models and they think that the only way that society will accept them is if they look exactly like those people. They have the fear of becoming fat and being bullied. These kids are genuinely scared to grow up and have to face body changes. there is also the other part of these disorders. Not all people who have an eating disorder are skinny. There are also those who eat because they are stressed or have a low self esteem. They are influenced by their parents. So that means that if their parents have the habit of always eating or not eating, the children will pick up those same customs. Sometimes there are kids who are physically or sexually abused and that causes them to look for comfort in food or just decide to not eat properly. Fashion Statement The media has done a tremendously great job at advertising how the ideal male or female should look. According to each era, this meaning has drastically changed. For example, the 1950 s thought that the perfect woman was curvy and had an hourglass figure like Marilyn Monroe, Diana Dors and Betty Grable. They did not think that skinny guys or girls were attractive. For the past 25 years, it has been considered fashionable to be tall and skinny. • 13. Advantages Of Executive Compensation Bonus plan or executive compensation is defined by Scott (2009, pg. 356) as: An executive compensation plan is an agency contract between the firm and its managers that attempts to align the interests of owners and managers by basing the manager s compensation on one or more measures of the manager s performance in operating the firm Bonus contracts usually specify manager s reward on the basis of earnings and share price. The rewards are usually under the form of cash, shares or options. However, on the other hand, this strategy somehow pressures managers to manipulate earnings to re ceive bonus at the end of financial year. Chesapeake Bay Ecosystem Research Paper Chapter II: Conservation of Specific Functions, Habitats, Features and Species Many habitats in the Chesapeake Bay watershed are degrading by time and losing their functionality. Because it sounds as Utopia to conserve and protect all the habitats in such a complex ecosystem, the most important habitats shall be targeted. These specific habitats are the wetlands, riparian forest and streams. Each of these habitats represents one of the essential landscape ecology principles. Wetlands act as buffer zone and provide critical habitat to some species in the Bay. It is important to sustain the Estuarine Emergent Wetlands in order to provide a place for breeding, nursery and reproduction. Vesay entitled: Literacy Curricula and Assessment: A Survey of Early Childhood Educators in two States. I was attracted to this article because being an early educator myself, I know how important literacy instructions is in the early years. It intrigued me to read about the types of curricula and assessment used by other educators to assess young children learning. The purpose of the article was to survey early childhood educators regarding their literacy practices and the assessments implemented in their classroom. However, the goal was to determine to what extent preschool teachers addressed literacy skills areas through classroom instructions. (Gischlar Vesay 2014, p. 298). The authors believed that teachers should be using literacy curricula to teach literacy skills and get proper training in how to monitor students progress. If such curricula are not being implemented, then explicit instructions in early literacy instruction should be conducted daily. This paper will provide a critical review of the methods used, the result of the study and the authors discussion of the article. In the article, the authors stress the importance of literacy education in the early years. In fact, it is noted that pre school years are critical to the development of early literacy skills that will lay the foundation for future reading skills and help present problems from developing (Gischlar ... It is also an illustration of the brutality of war and the apathy of those who might see the photos in newspapers. Whereas, Exposure is a poem written by a solider who was honoured for his bravery and then was killed in the battle; therefore, Exposure has more authenticity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2011), Jean Watson s theoretical framework lies in carative factors, transpersonal caring relationship, and caring moment. This implies basically that the core of nursing is in caring and other qualities of nursing as a profession builds on it. Her assumptions of caring affirms that in all we do to assist a client, caring is the most important. She claimed that without caring, curing cannot effectively occur. Gonzalo (2011), refers to caring as being more healthogenic than curing because it integrates biophysical knowledge with knowledge of human behavior to generate or promote health and to provide ministrations to those who are ill. He also concluded in his review of Jean Watson s work that the science of caring is complementary to the science of curing . MSU s department of nursing associates with Jean Watson s human caring theory as pointed out in the holistic health aspect of its theoretical constructs. This section strongly reflect the ideas of Jean Watson. Pros of the theory * It presents distinct difference between nursing and other health care professions * It is logical and easy to apply to various practice situations * It presents nurses with a good view at nursing Cons of the theory * Caring alone isn t enough as the health care system now incorporates technology in client s care. Therefore, with the caring model and its processes, nurses need to find a blend where technology has its place. Madeleine Leininger s Culture Care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
