Role Of Passage In American Culture
The rites of passage is the way of life for many cultures. These rites of passage are the beginning and
endings of a particular stage of your life such as, birth, adulthood, marriage and death. One of the
most important rites of passage that many of us experience and will always remember vividly is the
rite of passage to adulthood. Different cultures have different ways to celebrate the transitioning
process; the age range varies as well as different the events to overcome in order to complete the rite
of passage. In this paper, I will explore and examine the differences and similarities of rite of passage
in different cultures and how religion plays a major part in the rite of passage in many cultures and
how rite of passage difference from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An individual experiences or a change from an affixed position in society to another position, that
individual can easily describe their change as a passage. In American culture a normal rites of passage
is such as menstruation. Girls in American culture this is known as girl know leaving childhood and
entering adulthood. A girl in this stage can no longer be treated as a child; she is rather gains
recognition as an adult. Additionally, graduation from high school is also generally recognized as a
passage from childhood into adulthood in the American culture. Students graduating from high school
are seen as adults. They are ready to start making major decisions about what they want out of life.
Attention of rite of passage was mainly focused on puberty in many cultures. Some of these practices
where quite brutal in many countries as many children had to undergo starvation, endure pain or
insults in which if they lived through it would be taken as entrance passage into the adult society

This story is about a fiction story about approaching adulthood , Marigolds. Marigolds are a type of
flower. These flower are import to a lady and brings joy to her life during the great depression. Many
americans experience poverty and unemployment. Marigolds was written by Eugenia Collier. My

Physics of Angular Momentum Project
Angular Momentum: The Physics of Spinning
Although many know the physics of spinning , not many people are aware of how angular momentum
explains the physics of rotation. Now it is true that all objects have a momentum, a product of mass
and velocity. But similarly, the inertia of rotating objects is called angular momentum. When a
direction is given to a rotational speed, we call this rotational velocity, and its vector is rotational
speed. Therefore, angular momentum is the product of rotational inertia and rotational velocity, or
L=Iw. This equation can be used in physics to find the angular momentum of an extended object, with
the I being the inertia (kg x m2) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this would be a man with his arms extended, holding weights. If his arms are extended
with weights on the end, his overall rotational inertia is relatively large and as he turns, his angular
momentum is the product of his rotational inertia and rotational velocity. If he pulls the weights in, his
rotational inertia is decreased, but his rotational speed increases. This concedes the idea of the law,
that the smaller one part is, the larger the other part must be. There are examples in sports too, like
cheerleading. When a flyer in cheerleading is thrown and is going into her rotation, she isn t at her
fastest motion yet, but her ability to resist a change in motion is quite high. This ability to resist a
change in motion is her inertia, which in our case, is mass multiplied by radius squared. So while she
has arms and legs extended before she fully rotates, she has less speed, but a longer radius that allows
her inertia to remain larger. When she is fully into the rotation with legs and arms fully tucked in, she
has a smaller radius, but because of the conservation of momentum, this loss of inertia must be made
up in speed. So while the flyer is doing the hardest part of her trick, the real rotation, her body is
moving the fastest so that her lack of inertia can not affect the success of her move.
Now my final example is the figure skater, how do we explain mathematically why when her arms are
extended she goes slower and when her arms are pulled in she

Dna Phenotyping Case
Camou, Savannah
Building a Face and a Case on DNA In his New York Times article Building a Face, and a Case, on
DNAAndrew Pollack discusses recent advances in technology, and science, both connecting to DNA.
Pollack explains DNA phenotyping, the process of predicting an organism s phenotype using only
genetic information collected from genotyping or DNA sequencing, and how police and other law
enforcement have been applying it to solve crimes. By using DNA phenotyping law enforcement can
generate a face by a computer using only DNA found at the scene of a crime. Although DNA
phenotyping can determined a suspect s eye and hair color accurately, it still has a ways to go to being
able to fully generate a suspects face. Pollack states, DNA, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Murphy herself writes the process as to how the portraits are made, Their software yields an image in
a matter of minutes, rapidly drawing connections between genetic markers and points on the face. In
less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee, a sketch emerges inferred solely from DNA. Even
though the process itself is quick, the portrait resembles an avatar. Murphy s New York Time s science
colleagues conducted a somewhat unscientific experiment, sending in samples of a two colleagues,
having the system generate a portrait using only DNA, and finally identifying. The first image shown
had a dozen people respond that they could not make out who the portrait was of due the images being
too generic. The portrait was of Mr. John Markoff, who was almost entirely Ashkenazi Jewish and ten

A Critical Understanding Of An Older Adult

place, within a clinical acute setting, with following the use of Driscolls Reflective Model (1994),
Driscoll uses a framework to reflect on the scenario, What? Happened, So, What? How you were
feeling at the time, and Now, What? Actions to be taken. However, to maintain confidentiality, which
is set by the (NMC) Nursing and midwifery council (2008) all names of places and patients names

When the pressure, is not frequently relived, the damage is caused and a pressure ulcer occurs. Judy
waterlow (1985) introduced the Waterlow Score, whilst working as a clinical nurse, she designed this
as a tool for her students to use as a guidance, for a risk assessment tool, to help in maintaining skin
integrity. Waterlow (1985) suggests, that as a nurse professional, we can only use this as a guide, we
must also use our own judgment, in defining the risks of the patient in our care. The cost implications
to treatment of pressure ulcer care is expensive, costing the national healthcare service provider
millions, with additional longer stay in hospital, the cost of each pressure ulcer and even
reconstructive surgery, also with the additional suffering, of the patient at hand, the importance of
minimizing the risks to pressure ulcer prevention, is imperative. Not only to bring, the costs down, but
to serve our public, to the best of, our ability, in bringing excellence, in the care provided (Dziedzic,
2014).
First stage: What happened, whilst out on my nursing placement, in clinical practice, I was allocated
to a bay of patients to care for, these consisted of 7 female patients, with a variety of care complex
mobility needs. During my shift, I assisted the patients with personal care, helping them to wash and
dress for the day, with nutrition and assisting the patients out of the bay to use the toilet and aiding
them in their mobility.

Relationship Between Equity And The Common Law
Equity has been described as a mysterious creature that lies distinctly alongside the common law. In
considering the statement, there is an almost linear reversal in which the remedies in equity procure a
type of right not necessarily available in the common law. This peculiar jurisdiction has created
consistent controversy especially in regards to the fusion of the common law and equity. To
understand further, this essay will consider the relationship between equity and the common law. The
development of equity alongside the common law through its history and intention, and application in
case law will be imperative in the discussion of the statement. In conjunction with an analysis of
fusion, it will become apparent that equitable damages were enlivened, separate to, in unfair
circumstances where no rights/damages existed within the common law. In trying to tread the murky
waters of the distinction yet the procedural fusion of equity and common law, the contention of this
essay becomes apparent. Effectively, this essay aims to highlight that the history, intention, application
and fusion fallacies regarding equity, all which point to an assertion that rights in equity are indeed the
product of its remedies. Whether they are merely two streams of jurisdiction, though they run in the
same channel, run side by side and do not mingle their waters , is yet to be seen.

African American Political Experience Of African Americans...
When you have influence on someone or something you have the ability to change things
unknowingly. African Americans have influences upon the United States in numerous ways. Socially,
politically and emotionally the black experience embodies influence on our lives today. When I reflect
on the issues that African Americans faced centuries ago, and the issues that we are facing today it
seems to be a reflection. I am a African American woman staring in a cracked mirror watching the
issues of the past reflect back in the world I live in today. African American political experience from
the 20th century have an affect on us as we continue to experience things today day we are striving to
grasp change, equality and justice.
African Americans political experiences have always been a silent cry, it was mentioned in class how
when African Americans stand up for something it s like giving a dog a bone. The minimum is done in
some cases to make the problem quiet down. African Americans have a silent cry in the sense that
people can see what they are dealing with but they won t do anything about it. During the middle of
the 20th century there were African Americans leaving the South in search of jobs ,to have a better life
for their families and be in better circumstances. Desegregation of armies, which allowed more
soldiers to fight in the war and go to war. This was a time that African Americans were wanting more

Canada has been known for, and has taken great pride in being a multicultural nation to the point of

measure of many nations, the greatest nation on the planet. This great land and people are known for
the country s wide open spaces, its varied geographical areas and its acceptance of all people,
regardless of race, culture and religion. As such, Canada is widely known as one of the most

RESEARCH THEMES ON CANADIAN MULTICULTURALISM 2008 2010 prepared by
Citizenship and Immigration Canada cites information from polls conducted by Environomics for
Focus Canada (a leader in analytics in Canada). It states, In a study conducted in 2003, support for
multiculturalism among Canadians has increased over seven years: 85% of Canadians agreed that
multiculturalism was important to Canadian identity in 2003, compared to 74% in 1997
(http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/pub/multi state.pdf, pg 7 paragraph 5). This research would indicate
a national movement towards embedding multiculturalism in Canadian culture. It would also indicate
that although there are a majority of Canadians who support multiculturalism; there is still a group,
roughly half a million people, who either do not care about multiculturalism or worse, who are
opposed to the concept. Advocates of Canada s multicultural identity cite census figures, including
those from the 2001 census, which state that of the approximately two million immigrants arriving in
Canada between 1991 and 2001, 58 percent were from Asia, 20 percent from Europe, 11 percent from
the Caribbean, Central and South America, eight percent from Africa and three percent from the

The Four Functional Areas Of The Banking Industry
Functional Areas
Apart from the typical functional areas of any organization, which consist of Accounting, Finance,
Human Resources, Marketing and Information Technology, the banking industry has slightly different
functional areas. The most important area in any commercial bank is the Consumer Lending area,
which typically deals with loans in regards to individual and household consumers. This includes
home and auto loans, as well as personal loans. Another functional area in the banking industry is the
Internal Audit department. The Internal Audit department oversees the effectiveness of the bank s

Competitive Environment
The ACF plant has experienced serious cutbacks throughout the 80s due to competitive pressure
caused primarily by the entrance of foreign competition in a market formerly dominated by US auto
manufacturers and the oil shock of the 70s. The expensive gasoline has started a trend in the auto
industry for fuel efficiency resulting in ever increasing emission standards.
With the resulting loss of domestic market share, ACF is facing intense competition from not only
other suppliers but other Bridgeton plants as well. The task of remaining cost competitive is daunting

Note: A look at Exhibit 2 showed a fall in all overhead accounts after the outsourcing in 1989. We can
take this to mean that in reality no costs are completely avoidable or unavoidable.
To Outsource or not to Outsource
We are not in favor of outsourcing manifolds because of the following reasons: 1. The outsourcing of
Muffler/Exhaust and Oil Pans, increased the OVH rate from 434% to 577% even though the total
overhead amount fell. This new rate when applied to Manifolds made it cost inefficient despite some
remarkable improvements in its production. This was because the fixed costs associated with the
production of Muffler/Exhaust and Oil Pans were transferred to the remaining product lines. 2. It is
quite likely that if Manifolds are outsourced then the costs associated with their production will be
added on to the remaining two lines. Their cost classification will suffer and they could be next in line
for a possible outsourcing. The plant may eventually shut down and so may the company in time. 3.
Though the data is absent we feel that the allocation base should be machine hours instead of direct
labor. This base should give a more accurate picture given the extensive mechanization of the plant
and may provide some respite to the Manifolds operation in term of overhead cost allocation. 4. We
have attempted a quantitive analysis of the effect of

How Oil Drilling Works Essay
People in the U.S. use oil every day. Powering cars, heating homes, and providing electricity are just a
few examples of how we use oil fuels in our daily life. Where would we be if we woke up tomorrow
and couldn t fly because there was no fuel, or products containing plastic were taken off the market?
In fact, oil is a part of everyday items such as crayons, bubble gum, and deodorant (Mooney 19). Oil is
the number one source of energy in the U.S. today. However, the U.S. imports 140 billion worth of its
oil supply every day from unstable regions such as Canada and Mexico (news desk). This makes our
addiction to oil an even more dangerous game. Dependence on foreign oil, also leaves the U.S.
vulnerable to fluctuations in global supply and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As history has shown, the refining and transporting of oil can sometimes end up releasing oil into the
ocean as well. Oil is drilled from the ocean floor through powerful offshore oil rigs. Natural seeps can
also occur. This is when crude oil that seeps in the ocean water from geologic formations beneath the
ocean floor. Despite these risks, the growth of the global oil businesses continue to grow and our need,
and ultimately our dependency on it, grow right along with it. Arguably, the greatest impact of off
shore drilling on the environment is indisputable. There are 3,500 drilling rigs and platforms, 79 of
them deep water wells, in the United States alone (CBSNews). Many of these off shore rigs are
located in the Gulf of Mexico and directly impact these ecosystems with negative impacts ranging
from black carbon to blowouts (Oceana). However, larger impacts can be catastrophic such as the
2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that killed 11 people and destroyed 125 miles of the
400 miles of Louisiana coastline (Bp). The accident continues to mire the company in lawsuits and
court hearings. BP settled criminal charges with the Justice Department two years ago for $4.5 billion

Emotional Detachment in Soldier s Home Essay
A photo of Krebs during World War I shows him with a corporal and two German girls on the Rhine
River. One s first thought of this picture may be of a lighthearted sightseeing trip on leave from the
front. However, in the photograph, Krebs and the other corporal are described as too big for their
uniforms, the German girls as not beautiful, and the Rhine does not even appear in the photograph
(154). This is how Ernest Hemingway begins Soldier s Home, the story of a young war veteran named
Harold Krebs who has recently returned home. Everything that Krebs says and does is to make his life
as smooth and have as few complications as possible, more than likely a stark contrast to his life in
Europe.

Krebs lives a simple life in a simple town, and he wants to keep it that way. The war was complicated
enough, and now Krebs just wants to live without complications, commitments, or consequences. He
did not want any consequences ever again. He wanted to live alone without consequences (155).
Although this wish seems simple enough, breakfast at the Krebs family table will prove otherwise.
Krebs sister starts a conversation about indoor baseball that quickly becomes a conversation about
whether or not Krebs really loves his sister. We first see Krebs emotional detachment in his replies to
her eager questions about love between his sister and himself you bet, I don t know, sure, uh huh, and
maybe (157). During breakfast, his mother also mentions that she would like him to start working and
find a nice girl, and his father is willing to let him take out the family car to do so, but these actions
would only complicate his lifestyle. Krebs can hardly pay any attention at the breakfast table as his

Civilization And Civilization Summary
In Civilization and Discontents, Sigmund Freud analyzes the relationship between individuals and
civilization and how it relates to his theory of instincts and the individual psyche. The viewpoint of
civilization and the individuals residing in it changed after the First World War when death became
anonymous with the use of new war tactics and weapons such as trench warfare, machine guns, and
tanks. Many were left unsettled at the savagery that the modern man was capable of. The idea of
civilization and the actions individuals made became more complex and Freud s theory of instincts
began to become pertinent to the times. Freud believed that the human psyche is composed of three
distinct parts; id, ego, and superego. Id is the set of unconscious desires that are deep within an
individual, called the subconscious (Offman Lecture 6). This first part of the human psyche is
primitive and is made up of all inherited components of personality that can be found at birth. Freud
believed that the id could not be controlled beyond certain limits and that it was part of your instinct
that is found within all individuals living in any type of civilization (Freud 101). The id of each
individual is described by Freud as never before been touched by the external world, therefore it will
not change over time or with an individual s life experiences. The id believes that every sensation of
pain of or unpleasure should be removed and avoided at all costs (Freud 15). This is what Freud

The Odd One Out
On the most famous street in Boston, Newbury, there lays two architectural opposites just across from
one another. The Church of the Covenants a great historical church built in a gothic architectural style
where you would see historians, tour guides or school field trips and a Victoria Secret store that covers
an entire block and is build on the bases of modern architecture where friends and family would go
shopping or for a day out. Why would there be such ancient architecture at a modern vibrant shopping
district such a Newbury? The Church of the Covenants was built in 1867 and the decision to surround
such a historic artifact with a shopping district was done purposefully. The Church when seen seems
very out of place in a street such as Newbury, however, the two polar opposite architectural
masterpieces reflect the diversity of Newbury Street, and as to why it is referred to the time square of
Boston. The different architecture invites different types of people to such a vibrant street making it
not only a tourist attraction but also a street where people from all different demographics come.
The presence of the Convent Church cannot be ignored by anyone when they walk on Newbury Street.

Teen Pregnancy Causes
Some causes of Teen pregnancy are absent parenting, lack of knowledge, substance abuse, living in
poverty and peer pressure. The number of teens within the ages of 14 19 has substantially decreased
over the last several years. While examining the causes of teen pregnancy, new methods of prevention
can be defined. If there are different methods identified for preventing teen pregnancy than the number
of teens can go down more.
Absent parenting is one of the leading causes of teen pregnancy. Women who do not have both parents
in the picture are eight times more likely to become pregnant at a young age than someone who has
both parents. On account of absentee parents the time the parent leaves affect the risk that the child
has on becoming a teen parent. When a parent leaves or is present but does not engage with the child,
there is no one to lead by example. If there is no one for a teen to look up to they look for an
alternative that may not make the best choices. As a result of not having a parent present, when the
child executes a wrong decision, there is little to no discipline Decisions that are not in the best
interest of the teenager are likely to increase if they know there will be no punishment for their
actions. Also when there are not a present parent girls are prone to search for love in places that are
not healthy. While searching for love, girls often find men who are willing to take advantage of them.

Analyzing The Code Of Ethics In The Workplace
There is an ethical belief that housing is a human right and that there is nothing that a person can do
that relinquishes his or her rights to deserve safe, stable housing (Chernega and George, 2014). We
have homes to go to, homeless people do not; even if they have a roof over their head, they will
usually have little privacy and not right of permanent residence (Timms and Borrell, 2014). A code of
ethics (COE) displays common values within organizational settings. In addition, the code of ethics
(EOC) does not dictate its rules to an organization. The domain stands as a universal outcome for each

Pride And Prejudice Comparative Essay
Austen s classic novel pride and prejudice (P P) and the film adaptation Maguire s romantic comedy
Bridget Jones Diary (BJD) show the transformation of societal expectations over time whilst also
revealing which ideals and values have remained the same.
The comparative texts use a variety of literary and film techniques to portray characters and stories
that relate to societal norms and the feminist of their time. Both heroines, Elizabeth Bennet and Bridget
Jones reject the idea of marrying without the presence of love with Elizabeth stating I am determined
that only the deepest love will induce me into matrimony. whilst also acknowledging the importance
of social class and rank. The key themes that are made present in both P P and BJD all throughout the
entirety are Love, Marriage and of course Pride and Prejudice.
The opening line in Austen s P P It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession
of a good fortune must be in want of a wife is a direct reflection of society s views on marriage in the
19th century. The irony of this quote however stems from the fact that it is more evident for a single
woman, due to societal restrictions would be in want of a husband. In this period, a person was judged
on their economical stance rather than their nature as exemplified by Mrs Bennet when she exclaims
to Mr Bennet A single man of large fortune: what a fine thing for our girls! with the knowledge of the
financial security that can be sought

How Does Harper Lee Use Gender Bias In To Kill A Mockingbird
In Harper Lee s, To Kill A Mockingbird, she illustrates conflicts in modern day society. Classism and
Gender Bias were common terms during the 1930s. During this time, segregation was strongly
observed, Lee uses this knowledge to create racial tension between classes and genders. Her
characters represent all areas of life in the South. In Harper Lee s novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, she
illustrates classism and Gender Bias through the characters of Aunt Alexandra, Atticus Finch, and Bob
Ewell. Gender Bias is the act of basing what a person can do based on sex/gender. A great example of
this in To Kill A Mockingbird is when Aunt Alexandra tells Atticus that he has let Scout s non ladylike

Sexual Selection Research Paper
Sexual selection means many different things to many different individuals. Some may say that it can
be defined by sex differences and others say that it is primarily the difference in male individuals.
According to Charles Darwin, sexual selection can simply be defined as competition for mates.
Competition for mates, mate choice, and courtship behavior are all closely related and provide
evidence for sexual selection. They are all very common in sexual selection. They help with the
process of evolution.
Male male competition happens frequently in competition for mates. Competition in mates during
sexual selection usually includes males being anxious to compete with one another for access to other
mates, such as females. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sexual behavior and other reproductive characters are the most basic criteria for suspecting sexual
selection in a species of organisms(Leonard, 2006). One organism who provides an example of
courtship behavior includes land snails. Land snails exhibit elaborate courtship behavior by shooting
their partner with a calcareous when mating. The calcareous is about a centimeter long. The long
calcareous is referred to as a love dart. When the snail is shot with the love dart, sperm is released
which can then be released and fertilize the other partner s eggs. This process is an example of a
bizarre sexual behavior. It is labeled as bizarre because it is out of the ordinary and the result from
being shot with the love dart can sometimes be unfortunate. Love darts can sometimes cause
accidental deaths in the snails. They can also ultimately lower the fertility rate of the snail because of
the damage that is done to the body when the dart is inserted. Another example of unusual conduct is
apophallation, which can be found in two different types of slugs. Apophallation is when sexual
intercourse is sometimes ended by the removal of the penis of one or both of the individuals. Studies
have suggested that individuals who exhibit courtship behavior also tend to exhibit aggressive
behavior(Chiver and Schlinger, 2016). Although elaborate and bizarre behavior is common in many

Modern Drama And Modern Criticism
Nothing is harder to bring to life for a modern reader than the theatre of the past, Michael Booth states
in his book, English Melodrama, as an opening to his chapter the character of melodrama . Booth
resumes by saying that to reconstruct extinct theaters, to inhabit them once again with noisy
audiences, and to light them with flickering candles, harsh hissing gas, and soft multi colored pools of
limelight picking out actors long forgotten, acting in old fashioned ways in front of creaking flats and
jerking wings, is to make dead eyes see and dead ears hear. After research on this topic, I realized that
the task is even more difficult when the kind of theatre under discussion is now extinct, and toward
which modern drama and modern criticism is unsympathetic. This is the case with the melodrama of
the nineteenth century, the most popular dramatic form of its age, a form that depended more on
graphic exhilaration and the thrill of the moment qualities almost beyond critical recall than anything
ever written for the stage. Now it is all gone, and I will hopefully through this essay bring some of this
back to life. Yet because of its energy and vividness, something of its nature can be imparted.
Melodrama had never been rated highly by dramatic critics or historians, whose most contemptuous
word is melodramatic. To describe and raise it out of the neglect and contumely where it has generally
remained all this century, to show it so that it can at least be

In Vitro Fertilization Is Ethical

the fact that reproductive technologies are inhuman and a form of violence therefore, as surrogacy

pedophiles will not be able to buy and raise their victims, since there is a egg and sperm donor. No one
with a physical link can protect the child due to lack of natural nurturing links put the child at a greater
risk of abuse(Devine 1) . There are many questions from everyone, What if these people do not have
the right intentions? How do we know the surrogate mother will take care of the baby until they are
born? Questions that go through everyone s head all the time. If you have to worry about these
questions or just be unsure of it then it should be illegal. people who are unsure about drugs, or a new
medication they should take makes them double guess it. Most of the time if they have to double guess
it, they do not do it. The ultimate horror of the 21st century science is that if you have enough money
you can buy a helpless newborn baby and do whatever they liked to with it in the privacy of their own
home. There is nothing nobody can do to stop it(Devine 2). Commercial surrogacy is not something
people should not turn to when looking for a child for whatever reasons they may have. If people were
to think about it, like they do not know the surrogate mother. The surrogate mother doesn t get a
background check nor does the family getting the baby. So literally anyone with the money can get
this child. They could possibly harm the child but yet no one will never know. At least with adoption
agencies they look into families background and make sure they are fit to raise someone else s child.
There has been some cases where famous people have turned to surrogacy such as Michael Jackson.

The Face Of Battle By John Keegan
John Keegan describes his book, The Face of Battle, as a personal attempt to catch a glimpse of the
face of battle. This personal aspect that Keegan mentions is essential to his book and is excellently
articulated, driving home his point. Keegan, who taught at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for
over 25 years, begins by acknowledging his uneasiness with the fact that even though he taught British
cadets military history, I have not been in a battle; not near one, nor heard one from afar, nor seen the
aftermath . . . And I grow increasingly convinced that I have very little idea of what a battle can be
like. Keegan is clear to state his proposition that almost all military history has functioned simply as a
battle piece description in which one can see all the larger moving aspects followed by the outcome.
However, this sort of recounting fails to acknowledge the personal side of war, the experience of
battle. What really ensues when a cavalry unit meets an infantry unit? What are the vital features in
determining whether soldiers stand and fight or turn and run?
Having proposed that military history has been failing in its duty, Keegan then continues to
demonstrate how it should be done. The battles of Agincourt, Waterloo, and the Somme are the main
interests of the book; these battles took place centuries apart and all involved British armies. He
examines, in detail, which aspects of war changed or remain constant between the three battles.
Keegan brilliantly and

How Socio Demographic Factors Influence Income
Summative Report 2
Research Question: How do socio demographic factors influence income in the UK?
Introduction
Socio demographic factors are factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, religion, which affect society and are
present in statistics. These factors have a significant effect on income because a person with a
university degree is able to increase their income as they may look for more specialized jobs in
relevance to their degree thus allowing them to generate higher levels of income in comparison to
somebody who has a lower education level for example GCSE s who would look for jobs in line with
their current qualifications. In order for me to analyse how socio demographic factors affect income I
have chosen to look at 3 independent variables; Education, Gender and Religion to see the level of
statistical significance in relation to income. In terms of a previous literature I have reviewed different
types of literature in order to understand the relationship of these independent variables to income and
have looked at the Theory of human Capital in regards to education by Becker (2009), theories that
discuss the gender pay gap, and also Max Weber s renowned book of The Protestant Ethic and the
Spirit of Capitalism which examines the effect of religiosity in increasing levels of income amongst
Protestants. After exploring this literature I will carry out Analysis of Variance and Regression; both
linear and multiple to see how much of an impact the variables of Education,

The Passion Of The Christ
Passion of the Christ
In this film Passion of the Christ the scene begins with Jesus being brought into a Roman court yard
bound in shackles and chains, limping and visibly beaten from the night before. Jesus was arrested in
the early am hours so that any protest of the Pharisees behaviors would not be made. The elders of the
Synagogue want to be in full control of what happens to Jesus. In this analysis I will explain my
viewpoint of Why it was so vital for bad things to happen to this man and What good can come from
violence being displayed in this manner?
Jesus is brought in to stand trial before Pilate a Roman governor. Pilate clearly does not want to
condemn this man; this was partly because he sees no real crime committed and partly because of a
vision his wife had in a dream. Pilate first asks the Jewish High Priests Do you always punish your
prisoners before they re judged? Pilate questions Caiaphas and Jesus and finds no merit worthy of
death and tries to pass the decision of Jesus fate off to King Herod. However, King Herod gets
nowhere with his line of questioning towards Jesus so he sends the decision back to Pilate. Pilate
undeniably does not wish to crucify this man and attempts to free him by allowing a choice for a
prisoner to be freed. Yet, to his surprise the people decide to free Barabbas, a murder, over freeing
Jesus, a non violent man. This decision was thanks to the persuasion of Caiaphas and the other men of
the cloth. Once again, Pilate

The Motifs In Pablo Picasso s Guernica
There have been countless interpretations of the motifs within Pablo Picasso s Guernica since it was
first exhibited in July of 1937 at the Paris International Exposition. Initially, the painting was not well
received by critics. It was presumably destined to collect dust at the back of Picasso s studio.
However, after the events of the Second World War, the imagery represented within Guernica became
painfully familiar. Its macabre elements strongly resonated with people from around the globe, and the
appalling atrocities suffered by many communities worldwide became synonymous with both the
painting and the town of Geurnica itself. His stylistic choices, the use of geometric shapes and the

One thing I must learn is to say less much less, or I ll ruin myself. As it is I m already ruined.
During his first few months in prison, Yakov does not seem to get accustomed to the hardships. As
time passes him by, however, he grows used to life in a prison cell, but it only gets worst. As the novel
unfolds, Yakov becomes extremely weak and thin and he looses the trifling faith that was still left in
him.
Throughout the novel, the main idea is very obvious.
It is Yakov falsely accused of the murder of a young boy in order to drain his blood for the baking of
the Passover matzos. The theme of anti Semitism in Russia during the time of pogroms and of Tsar
Nicholas the second is a universal theme presented to us as the book unravels. It is evident that if
Yakov had not been born of the Jewish faith, he would not have been charged with the murder of
Zhenia Golov. He was being used only as an example to the three million Jewish residents of Russia.
He was being used as a warning. The meaning of the title The Fixer,

Mitsubishi Pajero
Good morning/afternoon. Buying a new product can be stressful at the best of times, but when the
product is a new car worth $70,000, this stress can become overwhelming. When our client, Mark,
came to us to help him decide upon a new vehicle, he had already narrowed down the selection to
either a Mitsubishi Pajero or a Toyota Prado, having had experience with each. He had also taken the
liberty of creating a list of important observations about himself, in order for us to help him make a

per day, so the car must have good fuel economy and comfort. Aside from his work commute, he will
drive his family members to various activities, so the safety is a priority. Mark has a budget of $70,000
with which to buy the car, so the chosen models must be under $70,000. Aside from city life, Mark
runs a cattle station with rugged terrain, so the car must also be up to scratch off road. Both the Toyota
Prado and Mitsubishi Pajero fit these criteria, and in order to create the fairest evaluation, the Pajero

the imagery of the lyrics And a moment came that stopped me on a dime. This really means that this

action and love. Words that show you are doing something with your life. There is also a play on

Immanuel Kant And The Kant Essay
Immanuel Kant Lying Chiyane Peterson MCCC Ethics MW 1:30pm Parviz Dehghani Lying the one
form of communication that is the untruth expressed to be the truth. Immanuel Kant states that lying is
morally wrong in all possible ways. His hatred for lying has made him just assumed that anyone who
lied would be operating with a maxim like this: tell a lie so as to gain some benefit. (Landau,pp.171)
This is true for a vast number of people, they will lie in order to gain a certain benefit from the lie
rather than the truth. It is similar to if you play a game of truth or dare, some rather pick a dare because
it would release them from having to tell the truth. However, those who do pick truth still have a
chance to lie to cover up the absolute truth.People lie in order to cover who they truly are. Even if you
lie to benefit someone or something else, it would not matter to Kant because he does not care for the
consequences. If you lie but have a good intention it is not the same for Kant, he would argue that you
still lied no matter the consequence that a lie is a lie. While lying, we accuse others for not being
transparent. While being hypocrites ourselves, we expect others to be sincere. (Dehghani,Ethics) We
know how it feels to be lied to by a person, so in order to not have the feeling returned, we hope the
person will be truthful. We rather be surrounded by truthful people constantly despite all the lies that

them go bad out to sea, and forced them to stay in the island for a long time. One night Odysseus fell
asleep. His men were starving, overcome by their hunger, they killed the cattle to eat. Once Odysseus
found out, he cried out to the gods, O Father Zeus and gods in bliss forever, you made me sleep away
this day of mischief! O cruel drowsing in the evil hour! Here they sat and a great work they contrived
(Homer 842). Odysseus failed at keeping his men from eating the cattle. The failure broke him down,
but he still kept on going with his job, that later soon will led to his success. Odysseus succeeded
many times along his journey, but there is always room to grow stronger. Odysseus failed once again
at Helios s Island. Once the winds, that were sent by Zeus, came to a stop, the men were able to carry

Night By Elie Wiesel Tabula Rasa Quotes
Tabula Rasa is the epistemological belief that people are born as a clean slate. Therefore, all
knowledge one has, is acquired. This includes the decision of right or wrong. If one is raised correctly
and decides to make the right choices in life, they should have privileges. It is possible for human
rights to be actualized for every person willing to live by them. First, criminals or people who hurt
others on purpose shouldn t expect to receive human rights. In the novel, Night by Elie Wiesel, the
author retells stories of when he was a victim of the holocaust. In this book, he tells a story of a Jewish
woman screaming that she saw a fire whilst on a train to the concentration camps. The other
passengers were getting annoyed, so they tried to stop the woman. ... Show more content on

Look at the flames! Flames everywhere.... Once again, the young men bound and gagged her. When
they actually struck her, people shouted their approval...she received several blows to the head, blows
that could have been lethal (Wiesel 26). This passage recalls the account of how a group of men
harmed a woman of their own community. These men shouldn t expect to receive human rights after
they harmed a poor woman that they thought was mentally ill. They took away her rights, therefore
the possibility of rights for them is out of the picture. In addition, to Elie s book, he also gave a
speech, Perils of Indifference, to express his views of indifference and how it affects our society. He
mentions, These failures have cast a dark shadow over humanity: two world wars, countless civil
wars, the senseless chain of assassinations...blood baths in Cambodia and Algeria, India and Pakistan,
Ireland and Rwanda, Eritrea and Ethiopia, Sarajevo and Kosovo...

The And Cognitive Processing Therapy ( Traumatic Stress...
The proposed research question asks whether a combined prolonged exposure (PE) and cognitive
processing therapy (CPT) approach is useful in treating veterans with post traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD). The population of interest for this study is veterans with PTSD. The ideal study would
include four groups: one to receive PE, one to receive CPT, one to receive both PE and CPT, and one
that does not receive an intervention. The groups would consist of an equal 50/50 male to female ratio
(half of the participants would be male, half would be female) to control for gender. The participants
would be randomly selected, by a computerized program, based on information gathered about
veterans with PTSD by the U.S. Department of Veteran s Affairs offices in each of the 23 regions of
the Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISN). Once selected, the veterans will be randomly
placed into one of the four aforementioned groups, and given the Posttraumatic Cognitions Inventory
(PTCI), a scale used to measure a person s trauma related to their thoughts and beliefs to determine if
they have PTSD or PTSD symptoms. After the participants baseline PTSD symptoms are measured,
each group will receive their assigned intervention once a week for 15 weeks. After the intervention is
complete the participant s PTSD symptoms will again be measured using the PTCI scale at the one
week and three month mark after treatment is completed. The control group will also be offered the
combined PE and CPT

Essay about Service Marketing
Introduction
In an ideal situation, customers would not have to wait for the delivery of products and services.
However, in the real world, organizations cannot always match exact capability and demand;
therefore, waiting is frequently inevitable while purchasing, especially in service marketing, as service
firms can barely inventory their stock for sale at a later date (Lovelock, 1992, p.154). In general,
waiting in lines known as queuing , happens when the number of customers arrive at a facility exceeds
the capability of the system to serve them (Lovelock Wirtz, 2011, p.260). Basically, this essay will
state the relationship between queuing and customer satisfaction, as well as relationship between
customer satisfaction and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the consumer is waiting alone and have nothing to do, especially in an unfamiliar facility, the
feeling of boring, uncertain about waiting time, stress and anxiety will be increasingly enlarged with
time passing. Queuing also seems more burdensome if people feel physically uncomfortable.
Moreover, because of a fear of been forgotten , the senses of get started of customers are fervent. It is
claimed that the anxiety level is much higher while waiting to be served than it is while being served,
even though the latter queuing will be longer (Lovelock Wirtz, 2011, p.267; Maister, 1985).
Unpleasant waiting experience might accompany with customers go through the whole service
process, which could lower the overall evaluation of service quality easily. Not only the queuing
experience, a number of studies also investigated that queuing time in a service organization
significantly influences consumer satisfaction. In general, increasing in waiting time is associated with
decreasing in customer satisfaction (Katz, M.Larson C.Larson, 1991). The graph (Dube, Renaghan
Miller, 1994) below shows the effect of waiting time on customer satisfaction in restaurant industry,
and suggests that most consumers do not satisfied if the waiting time is longer than 8 minutes. In
addition, another study (Jones Dent, 1994) examined that 70% of respondents considered waiting time

Dubuque Case Study Essay
Introduction (Jeremy Jensen) Dubuque, Iowa is a city of approximately 60,000 residents that sits on
the banks of the Mississippi River. Currently Dubuque is a diverse city that strives for complete
sustainability. However, it wasn t always that way recession hit in the late 80 s early 90 s. The town
was a homogenous community and relied on two major industries for employment a famous t shirt
coined the catchphrase Will the last one to leave turn off the lights? Mike Van Milligan was introduced
to the town in 1993 as the city manager and he was expected to lead the community in change. The

Van Milligan said he could only do this by establishing what he was about individually, then clearly
communicating the expectations on this vision to every employee within the city (Cohen, 2005, p. 65).
Van Milligan immediately started his change initiative within the city organization. He wanted to
make the government aspect of this vision more effective and efficient. To do this he cut a layer of
bureaucracy out. This layer consisted of seven upper management level jobs. By doing this, he
streamlined the organization and started building his guiding team, which consisted of the people that
needed to be a part of the change and those that wanted to change.
Readiness for Change (Jeremy Jensen) Van Milligan next required each department to justify their
existence based on whether they could do the job effectively and efficiently. All levels of employees
were encouraged to be involved in this process. According to Van Milligan it went over like a lead
balloon . Employees recognized something needed to be done, the economic stress was hitting home,
and they were seeing and feeling the urgency to change (Kotter Cohen, 2002, p. 10). Even though this
urgency existed, the employees were comfortable and resistant to the change. It really came down to

Essay On Creek Restoration Goals
Assist with Creek Restoration Goals
My involvement and support in implementing and maintaining creek restoration projects has been an
extremely rewarding focus and exposure during my internship. The City s most active creek
restoration site is Lower Colgan Creek Phase 1, which Sean McNeil had taught me to care for by
leading public events, monitoring vegetation succession, and preforming on site watering and
maintenance. During the summer of 2017, I served as the lead for operating our water trailer to
distribute water to the restoration projects under established native plants. Since learning about the
native, ecological, and historic context of the Colgan Creek restoration reach, I ve been able to share
this knowledge with volunteers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the public and compose verbal and written reports regarding creek efforts. Furthermore, I ve assisted
with the supervising and instruction of the Supervised Adult Crew (SAC) and Sonoma County Youth
Ecology Corps. (SCYEC) crews which has involved me prioritizing creek areas of need, developing
work schedules, and leading workdays. For smaller scale field tasks, I work with fellow City staff to
identify and solve trash pollution and creek trail issues
For my second consecutive year, I worked closely with Alistair to co author the Annual CSP Report
2016 2017 which highlighted program accomplishments. With experience composing the CSP report
for 2015 2016, I was able to modify and make additions to this year s report, such as breaking down
the trash volume, volunteer and youth education metrics by creek location. I also truncated this report
into a complimentary two page summary. Lastly, I ve acquired a greater personal responsibility for
quality control and content review on our CSP City webpage and calendar, which is an important
display and source of information for our partners in the community.

The Influence of Paul the Apostle
Paul the Apostle is considered to be the most influential of the early members of the Christian church,
along with Simon Peter and James the Just. Saint Paul is said to have been born around AD 5, and
considered to have died about AD67, though the Bible does not record his death specifically. The
epistles written by Paul to the churches were plainly and sharply worded. Paul s writings make up a
good portion of the New Testament and demonstrate his position of prominence as an apostle of the
early Church. Saint Paul was a significant contributor to the spreading of the Gospel through the early
Christian communities, particularly through his Epistles, that were established across the Roman
Empire. Paul s letters make up some of the earliest of Christian documents and, as such, they are a
window into early Christianity, with all of its controversies and unpolished beliefs. The authoritative
rule of the New Testament is considered to derive from Saint Paul s works Before his conversion, Paul
used the name Saul and he was engaged in the persecution of Jesus early disciples in the area around
Jerusalem. In the book of Acts, the narrative tells about Saul traveling from Jerusalem to Damascus
when he encountered the resurrected Jesus in a great light that blinded him for three days, until
Ananias of Damascus restored his sight. Following that powerful experience, Paul began his preaching
about Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of God and the Jewish Messiah. Saint Paul s influence

Essay on The Scientific Revolution
The Scientific Revolution
A paradigm is one s world view in which one understands his place in it. Copernicus, Galileo,
Vesalius, Linnaeus, Leuwenhoek, and Newton were all medieval scientists, whose work changed
people s lives and the world. The way man viewed the universe in which he lived, the world of nature
that surrounded him and even his own physical anatomy changed right before him. Scientists, like
Galileo, disproved the heliocentric model as new instruments like the telescope were invented. The
way in which man saw his own physical anatomy changed when Andreas Vesalius completed detailed
studies of the human body. Due to these new, groundbreaking studies man began to view himself as
insignificant and as a machine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Catholic Church believed that Galileo was mocking the Church approved ideas of Ptolemy and
their geocentric model. The Catholic Church sentenced Galileo to house arrest for the remainder of his
life, but his ideas of a heliocentric universe remained strong. This idea changed man s whole view of
his significance and place in the universe. Now, man was no longer the center of everything. Man was
not as important as he originally thought. This also meant that the Church was not preaching the truth,
and that the Bible and Aristotle were wrong. This raised questions about the validity of the rest of the
Bible and Aristotle s teachings.
During the Scientific Revolution, scientists developed ways to make more precise and more reliable
observations. The new scientists challenged the assumptions of past scientists. Zacharias Janssen
invented the first microscope. Anton van Leuwenhoek used a microscope to observe bacterium and
red blood cells. Galileo made the first thermometer using alcohol for measuring temperatures. Later, a
German physicist named Gabriel Fahrenheit developed the first thermometer using mercury. In 1655,
Evangelista Torricelli developed the barometer. The barometer measured atmospheric pressure. The
barometer proved that the weather could be predicted, and therefore God did not control the weather.
This new information disturbed the Catholic Church. Again, they were caught preaching the wrong
information(TWW ).Galileo proved Aristotle

These rites of passage are the beginning and endings of a particular stage of your life such as, birth, adulthood, marriage and death. One of the most important rites of passage that many of us experience and will always remember vividly is the rite of passage to adulthood. Different cultures have different ways to celebrate the transitioning process; the age range varies as well as different the events to overcome in order to complete the rite of passage. • 4. Physics Of Angular Momentum Project Kathleen Murphy 6/16/17 Walker Physics of Angular Momentum Project Angular Momentum: The Physics of Spinning Although many know the physics of spinning , not many people are aware of how angular momentum explains the physics of rotation. Now it is true that all objects have a momentum, a product of mass and velocity. But similarly, the inertia of rotating objects is called angular momentum. When a direction is given to a rotational speed, we call this rotational velocity, and its vector is rotational speed. Therefore, angular momentum is the product of rotational inertia and rotational velocity, or L=Iw. This equation can be used in physics to find the angular momentum of an extended object, with the I being the inertia (kg x m2) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this would be a man with his arms extended, holding weights. If his arms are extended with weights on the end, his overall rotational inertia is relatively large and as he turns, his angular momentum is the product of his rotational inertia and rotational velocity. If he pulls the weights in, his rotational inertia is decreased, but his rotational speed increases. This concedes the idea of the law, that the smaller one part is, the larger the other part must be. There are examples in sports too, like cheerleading. When a flyer in cheerleading is thrown and is going into her rotation, she isn t at her fastest motion yet, but her ability to resist a change in motion is quite high. This ability to resist a change in motion is her inertia, which in our case, is mass multiplied by radius squared. So while she has arms and legs extended before she fully rotates, she has less speed, but a longer radius that allows her inertia to remain larger. When she is fully into the rotation with legs and arms fully tucked in, she has a smaller radius, but because of the conservation of momentum, this loss of inertia must be made up in speed. So while the flyer is doing the hardest part of her trick, the real rotation, her body is moving the fastest so that her lack of inertia can not affect the success of her move. Now my final example is the figure skater, how do we explain mathematically why when her arms are extended she goes slower and when her arms are pulled in she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By using DNA phenotyping law enforcement can generate a face by a computer using only DNA found at the scene of a crime. In considering the statement, there is an almost linear reversal in which the remedies in equity procure a type of right not necessarily available in the common law. This peculiar jurisdiction has created consistent controversy especially in regards to the fusion of the common law and equity. To understand further, this essay will consider the relationship between equity and the common law. The development of equity alongside the common law through its history and intention, and application in case law will be imperative in the discussion of the statement. In conjunction with an analysis of fusion, it will become apparent that equitable damages were enlivened, separate to, in unfair circumstances where no rights/damages existed within the common law. In trying to tread the murky waters of the distinction yet the procedural fusion of equity and common law, the contention of this essay becomes apparent. We can take this to mean that in reality no costs are completely avoidable or unavoidable. To Outsource or not to Outsource We are not in favor of outsourcing manifolds because of the following reasons: 1. The outsourcing of Muffler/Exhaust and Oil Pans, increased the OVH rate from 434% to 577% even though the total overhead amount fell. This new rate when applied to Manifolds made it cost inefficient despite some remarkable improvements in its production. This was because the fixed costs associated with the production of Muffler/Exhaust and Oil Pans were transferred to the remaining product lines. 2. It is quite likely that if Manifolds are outsourced then the costs associated with their production will be added on to the remaining two lines. Their cost classification will suffer and they could be next in line for a possible outsourcing. The plant may eventually shut down and so may the company in time. 3. Though the data is absent we feel that the allocation base should be machine hours instead of direct labor. This base should give a more accurate picture given the extensive mechanization of the plant and may provide some respite to the Manifolds operation in term of overhead cost allocation. 4. • 16. Civilization And Civilization Summary In Civilization and Discontents, Sigmund Freud analyzes the relationship between individuals and civilization and how it relates to his theory of instincts and the individual psyche. The viewpoint of civilization and the individuals residing in it changed after the First World War when death became anonymous with the use of new war tactics and weapons such as trench warfare, machine guns, and tanks. Many were left unsettled at the savagery that the modern man was capable of. The idea of civilization and the actions individuals made became more complex and Freud s theory of instincts began to become pertinent to the times. Freud believed that the human psyche is composed of three distinct parts; id, ego, and superego. Id is the set of unconscious desires that are deep within an individual, called the subconscious (Offman Lecture 6). This first part of the human psyche is primitive and is made up of all inherited components of personality that can be found at birth. Freud believed that the id could not be controlled beyond certain limits and that it was part of your instinct that is found within all individuals living in any type of civilization (Freud 101). The id of each individual is described by Freud as never before been touched by the external world, therefore it will not change over time or with an individual s life experiences. The id believes that every sensation of pain of or unpleasure should be removed and avoided at all costs (Freud 15). This is what Freud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why would there be such ancient architecture at a modern vibrant shopping district such a Newbury? The Church of the Covenants was built in 1867 and the decision to surround such a historic artifact with a shopping district was done purposefully. The Church when seen seems very out of place in a street such as Newbury, however, the two polar opposite architectural masterpieces reflect the diversity of Newbury Street, and as to why it is referred to the time square of Boston. • 24. Pride And Prejudice Comparative Essay Austen s classic novel pride and prejudice (P P) and the film adaptation Maguire s romantic comedy Bridget Jones Diary (BJD) show the transformation of societal expectations over time whilst also revealing which ideals and values have remained the same. The comparative texts use a variety of literary and film techniques to portray characters and stories that relate to societal norms and the feminist of their time. Both heroines, Elizabeth Bennet and Bridget Jones reject the idea of marrying without the presence of love with Elizabeth stating I am determined that only the deepest love will induce me into matrimony. whilst also acknowledging the importance of social class and rank. The key themes that are made present in both P P and BJD all throughout the entirety are Love, Marriage and of course Pride and Prejudice. The opening line in Austen s P P It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife is a direct reflection of society s views on marriage in the 19th century. The irony of this quote however stems from the fact that it is more evident for a single woman, due to societal restrictions would be in want of a husband. In this period, a person was judged on their economical stance rather than their nature as exemplified by Mrs Bennet when she exclaims to Mr Bennet A single man of large fortune: what a fine thing for our girls! with the knowledge of the financial security that can be sought ... Classism and Gender Bias were common terms during the 1930s. During this time, segregation was strongly observed, Lee uses this knowledge to create racial tension between classes and genders. Her characters represent all areas of life in the South. In Harper Lee s novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, she illustrates classism and Gender Bias through the characters of Aunt Alexandra, Atticus Finch, and Bob Ewell. • 27. Sexual Selection Research Paper Sexual selection means many different things to many different individuals. Some may say that it can be defined by sex differences and others say that it is primarily the difference in male individuals. According to Charles Darwin, sexual selection can simply be defined as competition for mates. Competition for mates, mate choice, and courtship behavior are all closely related and provide evidence for sexual selection. They are all very common in sexual selection. They help with the process of evolution. Male male competition happens frequently in competition for mates. Competition in mates during sexual selection usually includes males being anxious to compete with one another for access to other mates, such as females. On the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sexual behavior and other reproductive characters are the most basic criteria for suspecting sexual selection in a species of organisms(Leonard, 2006). One organism who provides an example of courtship behavior includes land snails. Land snails exhibit elaborate courtship behavior by shooting their partner with a calcareous when mating. The calcareous is about a centimeter long. The long calcareous is referred to as a love dart. When the snail is shot with the love dart, sperm is released which can then be released and fertilize the other partner s eggs. This process is an example of a bizarre sexual behavior. It is labeled as bizarre because it is out of the ordinary and the result from being shot with the love dart can sometimes be unfortunate. Love darts can sometimes cause accidental deaths in the snails. They can also ultimately lower the fertility rate of the snail because of the damage that is done to the body when the dart is inserted. Another example of unusual conduct is apophallation, which can be found in two different types of slugs. Apophallation is when sexual intercourse is sometimes ended by the removal of the penis of one or both of the individuals. Studies have suggested that individuals who exhibit courtship behavior also tend to exhibit aggressive behavior(Chiver and Schlinger, 2016). • 28. Modern Drama And Modern Criticism Nothing is harder to bring to life for a modern reader than the theatre of the past, Michael Booth states in his book, English Melodrama, as an opening to his chapter the character of melodrama . Booth resumes by saying that to reconstruct extinct theaters, to inhabit them once again with noisy audiences, and to light them with flickering candles, harsh hissing gas, and soft multi colored pools of limelight picking out actors long forgotten, acting in old fashioned ways in front of creaking flats and jerking wings, is to make dead eyes see and dead ears hear. After research on this topic, I realized that the task is even more difficult when the kind of theatre under discussion is now extinct, and toward which modern drama and modern criticism is unsympathetic. This is the case with the melodrama of the nineteenth century, the most popular dramatic form of its age, a form that depended more on graphic exhilaration and the thrill of the moment qualities almost beyond critical recall than anything ever written for the stage. Now it is all gone, and I will hopefully through this essay bring some of this back to life. Yet because of its energy and vividness, something of its nature can be imparted. Melodrama had never been rated highly by dramatic critics or historians, whose most contemptuous word is melodramatic. • 32. The Face Of Battle By John Keegan John Keegan describes his book, The Face of Battle, as a personal attempt to catch a glimpse of the face of battle. This personal aspect that Keegan mentions is essential to his book and is excellently articulated, driving home his point. Keegan, who taught at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for over 25 years, begins by acknowledging his uneasiness with the fact that even though he taught British cadets military history, I have not been in a battle; not near one, nor heard one from afar, nor seen the aftermath . . . And I grow increasingly convinced that I have very little idea of what a battle can be like. Keegan is clear to state his proposition that almost all military history has functioned simply as a battle piece description in which one can see all the larger moving aspects followed by the outcome. However, this sort of recounting fails to acknowledge the personal side of war, the experience of battle. What really ensues when a cavalry unit meets an infantry unit? What are the vital features in determining whether soldiers stand and fight or turn and run? Having proposed that military history has been failing in its duty, Keegan then continues to demonstrate how it should be done. The battles of Agincourt, Waterloo, and the Somme are the main interests of the book; these battles took place centuries apart and all involved British armies. He examines, in detail, which aspects of war changed or remain constant between the three battles. Keegan brilliantly and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Socio demographic factors are factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, religion, which affect society and are present in statistics. These factors have a significant effect on income because a person with a university degree is able to increase their income as they may look for more specialized jobs in relevance to their degree thus allowing them to generate higher levels of income in comparison to somebody who has a lower education level for example GCSE s who would look for jobs in line with their current qualifications. In order for me to analyse how socio demographic factors affect income I have chosen to look at 3 independent variables; Education, Gender and Religion to see the level of statistical significance in relation to income. In terms of a previous literature I have reviewed different types of literature in order to understand the relationship of these independent variables to income and have looked at the Theory of human Capital in regards to education by Becker (2009), theories that discuss the gender pay gap, and also Max Weber s renowned book of The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism which examines the effect of religiosity in increasing levels of income amongst Protestants. In this analysis I will explain my viewpoint of Why it was so vital for bad things to happen to this man and What good can come from violence being displayed in this manner? Jesus is brought in to stand trial before Pilate a Roman governor. Pilate clearly does not want to condemn this man; this was partly because he sees no real crime committed and partly because of a vision his wife had in a dream. Pilate first asks the Jewish High Priests Do you always punish your prisoners before they re judged? Pilate questions Caiaphas and Jesus and finds no merit worthy of death and tries to pass the decision of Jesus fate off to King Herod. However, King Herod gets nowhere with his line of questioning towards Jesus so he sends the decision back to Pilate. Pilate undeniably does not wish to crucify this man and attempts to free him by allowing a choice for a prisoner to be freed. He had also taken the liberty of creating a list of important observations about himself, in order for us to help him make a quality, informed decision. Immanuel Kant states that lying is morally wrong in all possible ways. His hatred for lying has made him just assumed that anyone who lied would be operating with a maxim like this: tell a lie so as to gain some benefit. (Landau,pp.171) This is true for a vast number of people, they will lie in order to gain a certain benefit from the lie rather than the truth. It is similar to if you play a game of truth or dare, some rather pick a dare because it would release them from having to tell the truth. However, those who do pick truth still have a chance to lie to cover up the absolute truth.People lie in order to cover who they truly are. Even if you lie to benefit someone or something else, it would not matter to Kant because he does not care for the consequences. If you lie but have a good intention it is not the same for Kant, he would argue that you still lied no matter the consequence that a lie is a lie. While lying, we accuse others for not being transparent. While being hypocrites ourselves, we expect others to be sincere. The population of interest for this study is veterans with PTSD. The ideal study would include four groups: one to receive PE, one to receive CPT, one to receive both PE and CPT, and one that does not receive an intervention. The groups would consist of an equal 50/50 male to female ratio (half of the participants would be male, half would be female) to control for gender. The participants would be randomly selected, by a computerized program, based on information gathered about veterans with PTSD by the U.S. Department of Veteran s Affairs offices in each of the 23 regions of the Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISN). Van Milligan said he could only do this by establishing what he was about individually, then clearly communicating the expectations on this vision to every employee within the city (Cohen, 2005, p. 65). Van Milligan immediately started his change initiative within the city organization. He wanted to make the government aspect of this vision more effective and efficient. To do this he cut a layer of bureaucracy out. This layer consisted of seven upper management level jobs. By doing this, he streamlined the organization and started building his guiding team, which consisted of the people that needed to be a part of the change and those that wanted to change. Readiness for Change (Jeremy Jensen) Van Milligan next required each department to justify their existence based on whether they could do the job effectively and efficiently. All levels of employees were encouraged to be involved in this process. According to Van Milligan it went over like a lead balloon . Employees recognized something needed to be done, the economic stress was hitting home, and they were seeing and feeling the urgency to change (Kotter Cohen, 2002, p. 10). Even though this urgency existed, the employees were comfortable and resistant to the change. It really came down to changing their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Creek Restoration Goals Assist with Creek Restoration Goals My involvement and support in implementing and maintaining creek restoration projects has been an extremely rewarding focus and exposure during my internship. The City s most active creek restoration site is Lower Colgan Creek Phase 1, which Sean McNeil had taught me to care for by leading public events, monitoring vegetation succession, and preforming on site watering and maintenance. During the summer of 2017, I served as the lead for operating our water trailer to distribute water to the restoration projects under established native plants. • 49. The Influence of Paul the Apostle Paul the Apostle is considered to be the most influential of the early members of the Christian church, along with Simon Peter and James the Just. Saint Paul is said to have been born around AD 5, and considered to have died about AD67, though the Bible does not record his death specifically. The epistles written by Paul to the churches were plainly and sharply worded. Paul s writings make up a good portion of the New Testament and demonstrate his position of prominence as an apostle of the early Church. Saint Paul was a significant contributor to the spreading of the Gospel through the early Christian communities, particularly through his Epistles, that were established across the Roman Empire. Paul s letters make up some of the earliest of Christian documents and, as such, they are a window into early Christianity, with all of its controversies and unpolished beliefs. The authoritative rule of the New Testament is considered to derive from Saint Paul s works Before his conversion, Paul used the name Saul and he was engaged in the persecution of Jesus early disciples in the area around Jerusalem. In the book of Acts, the narrative tells about Saul traveling from Jerusalem to Damascus when he encountered the resurrected Jesus in a great light that blinded him for three days, until Ananias of Damascus restored his sight. Following that powerful experience, Paul began his preaching about Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of God and the Jewish Messiah. Saint Paul s influence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Essay on The Scientific Revolution The Scientific Revolution A paradigm is one s world view in which one understands his place in it. Copernicus, Galileo, Vesalius, Linnaeus, Leuwenhoek, and Newton were all medieval scientists, whose work changed people s lives and the world. The way man viewed the universe in which he lived, the world of nature that surrounded him and even his own physical anatomy changed right before him. Scientists, like Galileo, disproved the heliocentric model as new instruments like the telescope were invented. The way in which man saw his own physical anatomy changed when Andreas Vesalius completed detailed studies of the human body. Due to these new, groundbreaking studies man began to view himself as insignificant and as a machine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Catholic Church believed that Galileo was mocking the Church approved ideas of Ptolemy and their geocentric model. The Catholic Church sentenced Galileo to house arrest for the remainder of his life, but his ideas of a heliocentric universe remained strong. This idea changed man s whole view of his significance and place in the universe. Now, man was no longer the center of everything. Man was not as important as he originally thought. This also meant that the Church was not preaching the truth, and that the Bible and Aristotle were wrong. This raised questions about the validity of the rest of the Bible and Aristotle s teachings. During the Scientific Revolution, scientists developed ways to make more precise and more reliable observations. The new scientists challenged the assumptions of past scientists. Zacharias Janssen invented the first microscope. Anton van Leuwenhoek used a microscope to observe bacterium and red blood cells. Galileo made the first thermometer using alcohol for measuring temperatures. Later, a German physicist named Gabriel Fahrenheit developed the first thermometer using mercury. In 1655, Evangelista Torricelli developed the barometer. The barometer measured atmospheric pressure. The barometer proved that the weather could be predicted, and therefore God did not control the weather. This new information disturbed the Catholic Church.
