Appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE)
Appropriate personnel protective equipment (PPE) is critical to ensure that health workers do not
contract the diseases when assisting infected patients. In order to ensure that health workers are not
infected, timely availability of high quality protective equipment cannot be over emphasized. Since
UNICEF supported the government of Sierra Leone in establishing and maintaining an uninterrupted
supply of protective clothing and accompanying technologies such as gloves, masks, aprons, etc for
the health care workforce during the EBOLA outbreaks, using new PPE. An assessment to evaluate
the effectiveness of PPE to personnel against EBOLA will be conducted. The outcome of the
assessment should include the following; 1. The number of health workers ... Show more content on

PPE by health personnel. Based on the findings from the assessment, corrective measures can be put
in place to ensure that health workers do not contact the virus when on duty. If the number of health
workers who were competent in proper use of PPE and they used it as per manufacture s instructions
and still contracted the virus, then they may a need to asses the PPE to ensure that it is of high quality
to protect personnel from infection. This can be achieved through working with regulatory authorities,
WHO and stringent regulatory authorities to ensure that manufactures who supply PPE are certified.
Future PPE should be acquired from manufacture s whose PPE meet the required specifications for
EBOLA PPE. Since EBOLA is transmitted through blood and other body fluids, PPE which does
resistant to fluid penetration should be used in order to prevent infection of health workers. A pool of
selected certified suppliers who meet the specifications can be identified for future outbreak response.
It is important to have a pool to ensure that in case of outbreaks, the right

Rhetorical Devices In One Thousand Paper Cranes
Mode Paragraph: The rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes a is narrative that follows the
narrative arc. It is narrative because it follows the narrative arc of exposition, inciting incident, rising
action, climax, falling action, and a resolution throughout the story. The books starts off with the
inciting incident of the bomb being on Hiroshima which cause Sadoko to become ill and die in the
future. The rising action lets us follow Sadoko as her condition worsens The climax of the book is
Sadoko s death if shifted the direction of the book to a what will happen next. The falling action let s
Sadoko s class take charge of how the will remember her. The resolution is Sadoko s class fundraising
to have the peace park built for all the kids that died because of the radiation. That is why the
rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes is narrative.
Character Paragraph: In this story Sadoko is the protagonist that is having to overcome the newly
grow issue of leukemia. Also this story main focuses on her and her action. I believe Sadoko is a flat
character because throughout the book we are reminded of her strong will and determination which
was never be deterred until death. Which can be seen when Sadoko is described as being vibrant and
athletic and we know on page 32 and toward the end you can see her hard work never ended when she
still continued to make paper cranes even after her condition worsened. In addition, I believe Sadoko
is a dynamic character. Came to this conclusion, we see her express many different characters. She is
happy, saddened at times, kind, Optimistic, and cheerful. In conclusion, I feel these ways because
Sadoko s spirit and many character traits stand strong.
Point Of View Paragraph: The point of view of this story is third person omniscient because we are
able to understand the feelings and thought process inside of each character. The paragraph I will
rewrite is on page 41 and I will change the point of view from third person omniscient to first person.

The Prevalence of Younger Students Lying to Health...
Communication is a functional, purposeful, and strategic aspect of human socialization. Individuals
have the ability make conscious decisions to control their expressive language to manipulate the
perceived interpretations of others (Burgoon, Callister, Hunsaker, 445). As people acquire language,
they develop sensitivity to the Gricean maxims of conversation. The first of these maxims is Quantity
I , or the failure to provide enough information. The second of these maxims is Quantity II , or the
provision of too much or redundant information. The third of these maxims is Quality , or veracity
(Siegal, Iozzi, and Surian, 2009). These three Gricean maxims of conversation alone encompass the
prevalence of various forms of lying in the context of human communication. The significance of
lying is that it can change various outcomes that negatively impact various circumstances. In the realm
of health care, patients may lie to health professionals for a number of reasons including to acquire
unnecessary or excessive medications, to avoid embarrassment or judgment, and to reduce expensive
medical charges that may accumulate over time. No matter how well intentioned the doctor faced with
a patient in need of help may be, it is he who has the advantage resulting from the knowledge he has
(the truth) and his skills: a disproportion occurs between these two parties (Tanasiewicz, 2005, 16).
Regardless of the motivation patients may have for lying, they may be jeopardizing

Homosexuality and University Press
Homosexuality (male).
Definition Homosexuality refers to sexual behaviors and desires between males or between females.
Gay refers to self identification with such practices and desires, like homosexual, both terms mostly
used only for men. Lesbian is its female counterpart. Such definitions have run into major problems,
and nowadays the concept queer is used to indicate the fluency of sexual practices and gender
performances.
Sociological context
Since the 1970s, homosexuality has become the topic of an interdisciplinary specialization variously
called gay and lesbian, queer or LGBT studies (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender to which
sometimes are added QQI: Queer, Questioning and Intersexual). The field is far removed ... Show

The Dutch physician and homosexual rights activist Lucien von Römer worked with Hirschfeld on
sexual statistics. In a survey of 308 Amsterdam students done in 1904, he not only counted the men
who identified as homosexual (2%) and bisexual (4%), but as well those who had gay sex during
puberty (21%) or homosexual fantasies (6%). In the first Dutch gay novel that appeared this same
year, the author Jacob Israël de Haan told how he as a student made fun answering the questions. He
already made clear how unreliable such data often are.
Hirschfeld also came with the first urban geography, Berlin s Third Gender (1904) in which he
described the city s gay subculture of bars and parks and the elaborate world of male prostitution.
Mainly German books on the history of sexual morality ( Sittengeschichte ) that often included
chapters on homosexuality, preceded and influenced the work of later sociologists and historians, like
Norbert Elias and Michel Foucault. The work of these psychiatrists who started to give names,
definitions and identities to disease, crime and perversion, made possible the work of sociologists
creating labeling theory. In many ways, this early research paved the way for what would become a
sociology of (homo)sexuality (Schmeidler 1932). The enormous body of work, available mainly
thanks to early, prewar German sexology, was largely forgotten when the main location of sex
research after World War II moved

Essay about My Strengths and Weaknesses as a Writer
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning,
revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved
significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found
writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties,
and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear
understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own
work. During the transition from a high school writer to a collegiate writer, my strength at

Finding an introductory paragraph that hooks the reader can be troublesome, but throughout the
course, I have spent considerable time developing that technique. The body of my arguments each
exhibit strong support for the thesis. In addition, my conclusions summarize the papers without
restating unnecessary information. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an argument has
proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good proofreading. All
papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical errors, but also for
structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I wrongly assume that the
reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my argument are actually not
expressed clearly. In some instances, I fail to catch obvious errors, such as sentence fragments or
contractions, which I should be able to eliminate easily from my writing. Proofreading my own work
has consistently been the most difficult part of my writing process, and I continue to struggle with
catching all of the errors in my papers. Analyzing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer is
extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the structure of a good argument, I still miss
obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills necessary to properly proofread my own work. In
the future, I plan on spending a large portion of my time

My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke Essay
Any interpretation of this story is due to the reader s personal emotions and feelings toward his or her
own Papa. This story can be either a dance between him and his father, thus bringing them closer
together. However, there is a darker side of this poem, on this side it is an unsettling fight between a
boy and his drunken father and all the intimacy of the dance does not make an impression on the
reader and is overshadowed by the anger they feel. Theodore Roethke manipulates our emotions in
this poem using literary convention. A Waltz is a lighthearted, easily accessible dance. In a waltz, a

same path as we can see comforting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whiskey on his breath is not necessarily negative due to the factors of the working class culture in
1948 when this poem was published. To add on to this view that he is a hard worker with knuckles
that are battered and a palm caked hard by dirt, the man is a grafter who works long and hard for the
family he loves. The overwhelming joy he feels when he sees his son makes him want to dance in a
waltz. Due to him and his father s height difference, the son s ear scraped on the father s belt buckle.
The longer they dance the happier he get. This causes him to become more and more clumsier due to
his drunken state, and it starts to become too much for the son the handle and begins to become very
rough. This dance becomes so rough that the dancing causes the pans to fall to the floor and causes the
son to, hang on like death to his father. The beating on his son s head is part of joy at the music he
hears in his head. The mother remains an outsider to what is actually happening in front of her and is
naturally unhappy due to the random disturbance the father makes. After the dance is over the son
goes to bed and clings to his father s shirt in love and admiration for him. The negative side of this
poem is an abusive drunken father. This is prevalent to his father s obvious drunkenness. This is tied
together with the image of a knuckle, beating, belt buckle, and negativity in the word death. These

Mary Gilbert, the world renowned botanist, is back and if the previous two Eventide games taught us
anything, this means that one of her unfortunate family members are going to end up kidnapped. This
time it is Mary s brother John who gets whisked away by some sinister creatures called Zmeys after
she decides to pay him a visit. The monsters take him to a land in the clouds, but luckily for Mary, a
house spirit called Aitvar arrives to assist her with reaching this magical world on the other end of the
rainbow. Once there, Mary discovers that it is an evil sorcerer that is behind the kidnapping, so she has

Essay on Direct Democracy vs Representative Democracy
Direct Democracy vs Representative Democracy
The term Democracy is derived from two Greek words, demos, meaning people, and kratos, meaning
rule. These two words form the word democracy which means rule by the people. Aristotle, and other
ancient Greek political philosophers, used the phrase, `the governors are to be the governed , or as we
have come to know it, `rule and be ruled in turn . The two major types of democracy are
Representative Democracy and Direct
Democracy. Clearly the arguments for and against each form of democracy are plentiful. However, it
is my belief that theoretically, Direct Democracy is the superior form of political rule. Due to
problems with in the direct democratic system, its use as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, it is very possible, that through discussion an agreement could be reached by all members.
Representation, on the other hand allows a select few to make decisions in their own best interest,
which is not necessarily the best interest of the society. However, direct democracy is not the perfect
method to produce a union of the community. For a direct democracy to work, face to face
communication between all members of the community is needed. The only way this is possible is to
meet in large groups. Due to the fear of high tension, many citizens
will not participate in these large group meeting. So in order for these fearful people to voice their
opinions they must get together in smaller, less tensions groups, where they are not as timid to say as
they wish to see happen.
A direct democracy can only work in a small group, so as a form of government for an entire
community or country, direct democracy would definitely fail. As the membership increases, people
become less involved. Once the membership reaches the size of a country, the participation still exists,
but is limited to as low as it can go. Thus in a country, any form of direct democracy is only possible
in individual communities. In order for a committee small enough to operate on direct democracy
principles to have any authority at all, it must represent a much

Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis
Suicide In The Trenches
In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques
to show his perspective on the true meaning of war.
For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple
soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to
committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. Sneak
home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak home and
pray to show their empathy for the soldiers. In the last line it implies the fact that the crowd doesn t
have to go through the hell where youth and laughter go . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
the rhyme of brain and again at line eight tries to form a connection that although a young boy was
convinced to join the war and fought tremendously for his country and himself. However, in the end,
he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is.
The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is
effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at
risk which creates the bitter mood.
The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word
kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the
facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of
empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they
think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return
and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine
what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of
everyone s personality.
In my personal opinion, the last stanza is the strongest and most impactful stanza. While the previous
two stanzas shows the transformation of the boy

Global Automotive Industry- Porter s 5 Forces
Porter s Five Forces Analysis
Michael Porter identified five forces that influence an industry. These forces are: (1) degree of rivalry;
(2) threat of substitutes; (3) barriers to entry; (4) buyer power; and (5) supplier power. For more on
this framework proposed by Porter, please see Appendix C. Like other industries operating under free
market, capitalistic systems, viewing the automotive industry through the lens of Porter s Five Forces
can be helpful in understanding the forces at play.
Degree of Rivalry
Despite the high concentration ratios seen in the U.S. market, which typically signify that a lesser
degree of competition is seen in the industry, rivalry in the U.S. and the global automotive industry is

The switching costs associated with using a different mode of transportation, such as train, may be
high in terms of personal time (i.e., independence), convenience, and utility (e.g., luggage capacity),
but not necessarily monetarily (e.g., round trip train fare on MARTA would most likely be less
expensive than the cost of fuel consumed on a similar round trip, daily parking, car insurance, and
maintenance).
The exception to this statement occurs in the global urban areas with high population densities. In
these areas, the substitutes available (e.g., walking, mass transit, bicycles, etc.) can be less costly than
automobiles and thus alternative modes of transportation are often preferred.
Also, there are inherent underlying social and cultural attitudes that keep people from owning
automobiles in some parts of the world. Many nations are not as spread out or as mobile as the U.S.;
they are constrained either by geography, race, class, or religion and the need for personal
transportation is not as great, yet. The American dream of a car [or two] in every garage is not what
the rest of the world currently wants or needs. However, the marketing arms of the global automotive
manufacturers are certainly working very hard to change this paradigm, and with unprecedented
production volumes world wide, all signs indicate that they are succeeding. Most with the ability and

History of the U.S. Marine Corps Noncommissioned Officer...
History Of the U.S. Marine Corps Noncommissioned Officer 1958 Present Noncommissioned

Marines enjoy being a corporal only because of the increase in rank and pay. A few become the
tactless leaders junior Marines try to avoid. Fortunately, many others mature into Marines who strive
to become the leader that other Marines wish to emulate. They know what it means to be a good

Cultural Values In South Africa
Introduction
As you all know we will be in South Africa for three years on business. This power point is going to
go through how our cultural values here in the United States differ from those in South Africa.
Diversity is the one word that describes South Africa best
Diversity seeps throughout the whole country, from the rich to the poor, from the flora to the fauna,
and from the dense forests to the dry deserts.
Who wouldn t want to spend three years in a country that values diversity in everything they do.
Agenda
Hofstede s Values
South Africa s Values
Last Minute quote
Hofstede s Values
Hofstede s cultural dimensions theory is a framework for cross cultural communication, developed by
Geert Hofstede.
It describes the effects of a society s culture on the values of its members, and how these values relate
to behavior.
The values are power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism and collectivism masculinity/
feminity and long term orientation.
Power Distance
Power Distance is defined as the extent to which the less powerful members of institutions and
organizations within a country expect and accept that power is distributed unequally.
South Africa has a score of 49 putting them in the middle
Basically everybody has a place and knows the order of power and doesn t question it
Whereas the US has a score of 40 making them have a low power distance
They are going to be similar to South Africa however their power lines are more blurred than

First Amendment Rights, Privacy and the Paparazzi
The question of paparazzi threatening privacy and First Amendment rights is often to situational to
argue in a conventional manner, but certainly there are many facets of the issue which can be
addressed in a quite straightforward manner. Celebrities who feel they have the right to privacy in
public places often muddy the waters of this issue. Oddly enough, those celebrities who have chosen
to speak out against what they feel are violations of their privacy most always begin their campaigns
with a large press conference. In other words, they gather together those people they wish to not only

Their print journalist counterparts, who are afforded not only the luxury of editing, but also a few
column inches within which to develop their perception of the story fall into a different category all
together. A photojournalist must ascertain the defining image of a news event as it is happening and
capture it on film. If he or she is doing the job correctly, a reader can get a very good idea of what
happened without even reading the accompanying article. There is no luxury of editing in
photojournalism, the moment is either captured forever, or it isn t. If a fantastic shot is missed, it is
gone forever.
A good freelance photojournalist shoots what he or she knows. A good photojournalist also knows
what will sell. Some photographs really aren t worth taking from a newsworthiness standpoint, but if a
publication is willing to pay enough for them, than they will be taken. Sadly money does rule the
world, and until paparazzi photographers can feed their families without having to take these sorts of
pictures, they will continue to be taken.
It is obvious that one of two things is happening. Either the paparazzi does not threaten privacy and
First Amendment rights, or they do in such a way that the public does not care. The reason for this
goes back to the rich publications that ultimately drive paparazzi photographers to take these pictures.

One State, Two States Few, if any, modern conflicts are as complex as the Arab Israeli conflict.
Specifically, the political situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip has led to bloodshed, political
high wire acts, and cycles of hope and disappointment for decades. Consensus has generally leaned
towards advocated a two state solution for the conflict, in which the Israel remains a Jewish state, and
the Palestinian Arabs establish their own country carved from currently Israeli occupied territories.
This solution has become more infeasible, not more attainable, efforts to find a lasting peace have
occurred. The main alternative, a one state solution, in which one nation takes full control of the

While UN Security Council Resolution 242 called for Israel to remove itself from these areas and
return to its pre 1967 War borders (Farsakh 2005), Israel continued its presence in the region. In the
years that have followed, numerous solutions have been proposed to solve the crisis and to bring a
lasting peace and sense of stability to the area. The solution most supported up to now has been the
two state solution. In this solution, parts of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (likely the full area in
the latter) would become part of an independent, self governing Palestinian state, while the rest of the
area would become Israeli territory. With this, Palestinians would have a nation state and could chart
their own political and cultural course. Most nations and international organizations have lent their
support to this idea, including the US, the UN, and Israel and Palestinian Authority (Sanger 2016),
forming the basis for most peace talks aiming to resolve the conflict. The question that now remains is
why has this solution not yet been achieved? The disagreement on the borders of each state remains
one of the primary roadblocks to achieving the two state solution. There exists no consensus on which

Why Did Barbarians Convert To Christianity Research Paper
Why did the barbarians convert to Christianity?
The barbaric people of the medieval period went through a change due to their Christianisation but
how did this come about? The barbaric people spread through the Roman Empire, after its collapse
they moved through the empire taking their pagan beliefs with them. From the impact of every day
necessities such as language and culture to the impact of leaders and kings I will look at pin pointing
the causes of the Christianisation of Germanic people and why they were convinced by this new faith.
First it must be noted that throughout this essay I will be using barbarian and Germanic
interchangeably to describe the people in question.
Christian culture becoming more accessible in the day to day life of barbarians influenced their
conversion to Christianity. Pagan groups in conquered Christian, or post Roman, territories were
surrounded by influence from Christian people. The majority of the population became servants to the
barbarians, these servants kept their traditions and culture and ... Show more content on

Christianity at this time was closely linked with cultural connections. If a group of Christians declared
that their success in battle or harvest was due to the intervention of their God, Then pagans, in times of
misfortune, may be more susceptible to praying to the Christian God due to their desperateness. The
barbaric ages are known for the regressive changes on society from the prosperous Roman Empire to
what came to be known as the Dark Ages. The Roman Empire was famously a Christianised place, the
legacy of its sophisticated architecture, politics and even literacy were all superior to that of the
barbarians. Such consumer orientated society was often linked to their faith, suggesting if the
barbarians Christianised then they too could live lavish

Effective Methods Of Pain Control During Surgical Operations
Introduction to Anesthesia Before 1846 there weren t any truly effective methods of pain control
during surgical operations. However, methods of relieving pain, inducing drowsiness, and provoking
stupor, have been used all over the world since the beginning of ancient civilizations. Plants like
opium, cannabis, and mandragora were used in ancient times as drugs that relived general and
procedural pain. There are ancient Chinese legends like Pien ch iao and Hua T o, whose stories
resemble early ideas of anesthesia. Pien Ch iao was said to have used anesthesia to perform heart
transplants. Hua T o legend was said to have used a wine containing a certain effervescent powder
which, upon ingestion, caused insensibility to pain (1). In the ... Show more content on

James Moore s book in 1784, A Method of Diminishing Pain in Several Operations of Surgery dealt
with properties of anesthesia. He was a military surgeon, and successfully provided nerve compression
as an effective anesthetic technique before 1846. By placing pressure on sciatic, obturator, and the
crural nerves, the leg could be entirely numbed. Anesthesia by deadly levels of intoxication was also
applied as an anesthetic technique. However, this was highly unsuccessful and proved to be more
harmful than effective. Wardrop and John Syng Dorsey noted anesthesia by exsanguination. They
supported this method of anesthesia as they realized that exsanguination produced a state of syncope,
which allowed them to successfully perform surgical procedures with an absence of patient
discomfort.. Their findings are seen in some case histories. One noted a 50 year old man with a
dislocated hip. He was successfully induced into a state of syncope via puncturing of his vein for
bloodletting. 34 ounces of blood was removed from this man. A combination of blood loss, a warm
bath, and antimony tartrate, caused a temporary loss of consciousness; during this unconscious state
the hip was reduced.

Relationship Between Stress And Stress
Experiment Paper Introduction During Adolescence, teenagers and young adults begin to learn to cope
and emotionally self regulate. Now distanced between parents and home, adolescents are forced to
adapt to their new surroundings and psychologically adjust to the new environment. College, provides
a unique opportunity for adolescents to attain an education, and experience new social settings on their
own terms. However, in the process of adapting to a new and unusual environment, their enters a new
variable, and that is stress. According to the studies and research by Andrew Baum stress is : an
emotional reaction or experience accompanied by physical and behavior changes. ( Baum, A,Singer, J.
E. and Baum, C. S. (1981).Stress has a tremendous effect on one s mental, state, ability to self regulate
, and perform in given situation( Baum,et al. (1981). Stress also, affects the way one treats others.
High levels of stress can lead to tension amongst others, and tension with one s owns emotions which
in turn could be projected on other people. The following paper examines the relationship between the
stress and emotional self regulation on Bard college students, defining self regulation in terms of
politeness. Students were observed over the course of two sessions:The first session on November

Causes Of Subway Accidents
In order to minimize the number of subway accidents, motor vehicle collisions and airplane accidents,
state and federal agencies regulate the transportation industry. If a subway accident occurs, safety
boards, inspectors and investigators are called upon to investigate the incident.
At some point, light rail, subway and commuter rail have all been investigated. Although the injuries
sustained during a subway accident are usually much less extensive than those seen in automobile
accidents, more people sustain injuries in a subway accident than in a typical car collision. When it
comes to accidents involving the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), complex
issues must be investigated and analyzed. Some issues that can contribute to an accident include
improper employee training, electrical problems and mechanical issues as well as rail concerns.
Recent Incidents Involving New York s Subway
The MTA states that in 2016 there were 168 incidents involving people being hit by a train with 48
people sustaining fatal injuries: Marking the lowest year end total for individuals fatally struck by
subways in five years. Incidents involving train strikes are broken down by the MTA into six
categories: people hit in the station (but not while standing on a platform), individuals hit while
standing on the platform, people hit outside of the station (i.e., while in a tunnel), attempted suicides,
alleged suicides and individuals who fell between the cars.

Dystopian Short Story The Machine Stops

Imagine a world where citizens depend on technology for everything. Citizens do not need
companionship because technology provides it and citizens do not need to leave their homes because
one button push provides anything that the outside world offers. The Technology dependent world is
depicted through the dystopian short story The Machine Stops. The Machine Stops portrays a world
where citizens do not leave their homes, the citizens have little human interaction, and the citizens
depend solely on The Book for any question ever asked. The Machine Stops shows the downfall of a

long time and is extremely nervous about doing so. In order for Vashti to visit Kuno, Vashti will have
to fly on an airplane. While on the airplane, Vashti encounters a flight attendant who is a little different
than she is. For example, the flight attendant tries to steady Vashti when she trips, an unacceptable act
in the society depicted in The Machine Stops. Another passenger quickly states, How dare you!...You

passenger and she quickly apologizes for not letting Vashti fall. How crazy! In today s society the
flight attendant would be praised for not letting Vashti fall and in The Machine Stops she is criticized.

turning into a vanished practice as well. ABC News reports a perfect example of how helping others

was her ability to overcome her past life. She was at first a confused child at the mercy of her mother.
Her delinquent acts was said to be a result of her and her mother s bond. This emotional hold on the
daughter seemed to have forced Shangra into believing she needs to take care of her mom, to do so
she must indulge herself in illegal activity. Towards the end of the documentary, however, she was
able to graduate from the center with new outlook on life. I believe the Juvenile Justice system was
fair in its decision with Shangra s case. Instead of locking her up in a jail cell for 8 years they gave her
an alternative that proved to be beneficial for her down the road. It gave her structural support and the
motivation she needed to deter her ways from delinquent acts. Second to be mentioned by the

The World War I Led From The Imperialist Age Of The 19th...
World War I led to the deaths of over 70 million people in Europe, and destroyed the already weak
infrastructure left from the imperialist age of the 19th century. During this time of rebuilding,
Germany turned to people they believed would help them rebuild. The people who would rebuild
would also destroy the freedoms of the German people through their aggressive takeover. This
takeover by the German National Socialist Party, dubbed the Nazi Party by Bavarians, was defined for
the brutality and the totalitarian government by which it ruled. So the question is, how did they take
over? How did a party made from the hands of but 5 people manage to conquer all of Germany during
the 1930s? This is due to the harsh stipulations enforced by the post war efforts of the allied powers
and the following collapse of many European countries. Lack of International Cooperation led to the
blaming of the Central Powers of Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire after the first
World War. The only problem with this was that Germany was the only nation intact after the
Armistice Day in 1918. Germany s Imperial government had been overthrown in the German
November Revolution of 1918 and had been set up as the new Weimar Republic. This meant that,
reluctantly, the German Reichstag had to accept blame for all damages created by the war and the
Central Powers. In 1919, after the conclusion of World War I, a formal treaty was signed. This treaty,
known as the Treaty of Versaille,

The Effects Of Social Media On The Development Of Mobile...
Social Media Media Broadcast Marketing The increase of social media and the development of mobile
technology in the last decade has been significant, which has transformed the communication
strategies and especially with sharing the experiences and how information should be marketed to the
target audience. According to Hollensen (2014), the selection of newspapers, web sites, and TV to be
used for advertising (series of actions to reach goals) needs to be done (at the same time) with the
development of the message theme. The vital question in media selection is whether to use a target or
mass approach. When a large percentage of the general public is a potential customer the mass media
approach will be most effective. The media approach should be the outcome of a careful fit of local
advertising goals, the characteristics of the target market and media attributes. Moreover, media
variety can be based on the following criteria: Reach the total number of potential customers in a
target market exposed to at least one advertisement in a specific time period. Frequency is the average
total of times within a given period, a target market audience is exposed to the same promotion.
Impact dependant on compatibility between the message from the media approach and the medium
used. When an organisation introduces a new product or enters a new market high reach is essential, in
order for the new product or service to reach the widest possible audience the reach is

Persepolis Body Language Essay
A graphic novel consists of both a narrative and its accompanying illustrations, which are capable of
providing insight through a collection of images. Marjane Satrapi s autobiographical novel, Persepolis
(2003), is a collection of her comic strip memoirs, written and illustrated by Satrapi herself. Persepolis
tells the story of Marjane s growing up and coming of age in Iran s capital, Tehran, during the Islamic
Revolution. It is a story filled with noticeable moments, all of which are supported by the artwork
Satrapi has decided to include. Further analysis of Satrapi s artistic decisions reveals her choice to
include symbols that often represent Marjane s emotions. Objects such as mirrors and the use of body
language in certain characters, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pattern, and what transforms the mirror from an object to a powerful symbol, is the fact that Marji
s reflections vary based on how she views herself at the time. The first time we encounter such
situation is on page 16, in which Marjane, during her conversation with God, sees herself as
demonstrator Fidel Castro. During this time in her life, Marjane had but two aspirations: to be a
protester, and the next Prophet. Her relationship with God and His messages comes to define itself in
the following chapters. On page 46, Marjane looks into the mirror and chants to herself, You have to
forgive! You have to forgive! (46) and adds that I had the feeling of being someone really, really good,
likely alluding to her supposed role as God s messenger. However, just pages later, we see Marji s
reflection depict her as a devil, and in the same panel she narrates, Back at home that evening, I had
the diabolical feeling of power... (53) Learning what goes on to rebels behind prison doors changes
Marjane, and for a moment her values are forgotten. Finally, near the end of Persepolis, Marjane
Satrapi incorporates a direct reference to the mirror into her narration, which has significant meaning
to those analyzing artistic choices. On page 226, Marjane describes the dark thoughts she adopts about
herself in response to her teacher s question: what do you want me to say, sir? That I m the vegetable
that I refused to become? That I m so disappointed in myself that I can no longer look in the mirror?
That I hate myself? (226) In this scene, we see Marjane state that she has started avoiding mirrors,
when previously we have seen them play a major role in representing Marjane s ambitions. Marjane
Satrapi successfully informs the reader that Marji has come to despise the person she s become, but
puts on a facade to maintain an image of

Stalingrad Narrative
The Battle of Stalingrad
In August 1942, Hitler s massive Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after Stalin. During
the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it at any cost.
The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side, as well as
fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were trapped in the
battlefield. Antony Beevor interviewed some of the survivors and discovered new untold stories and
facts in a wide range of German and Soviet archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations
and reports of desertions and executions. As a story of cruelty, courage, and human suffering,
Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable.
Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of WW II in Europe. During
the course of war, changes in moods, thoughts, and impressions of the Germans, Romanians and
Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on the psychological changes of the war but
justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we know it. Stalingrad is a story of the well
known Battle of Stalingrad that took place on the Eastern Front of Europe during World War II, which
is written by world renowned historian Antony Beevor. It covers all the parts of the siege from start to
finish, it begins from the Axis invasion of the USSR, right up to the very end of the outcomes of the
various prisoners of war that were captured at Stalingrad.
On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched his massive army eastward in order to invade the Soviet
Union. The army consisted of three groups with over three million German soldiers, 150 divisions,
and three thousand tanks. The invasion covered a front from the North Cape to the Black Sea, a
distance of two thousand miles. By this point German military was the best at everything they did, the
forces invading Russia represented the best and strongest army to fight during that time. Barbarossa
was the crucial turning point in World War II, for its failure forced Nazi Germany to fight a two front
war against a coalition possessing immensely superior resources.

The Universe In Elie Wiesel s Night
Master of the Universe There is one singular question that persists in humanity from the beginning of
time, a question regarding the existence of perhaps the most influential figure in the universe: God. In
the memoir, Night, Elie Wiesel details his experiences in the holocaust, his journey from his small
Jewish community in Transylvania to the subsequent concentration camps which housed him in his
later youth. In this haunting account, Wiesel explores his own journey from a devout young man to
one that will question his own faith, the existence of God, and how one could still believe in a right
and just God after witnessing such atrocities. Prior to his imprisonment Wiesel existed as an incredibly
pious member of the Jewish faith. As his fate and the Jewish people s becomes clear, Wiesel begins to

Instead of the reverence that Elie once spoke with in regards to his Master of the Universe , he speaks
to him in an accusatory tone. Bitter, angry, and disheartened Wiesel questions not whether this figure

text that mention faith. Where is God s mercy? Where s God? How can I believe, how can anyone
believe in this God of Mercy? (Wiesel 76) With the many questions that plague Wiesel, only more
questions come about. The final one being, How can one still believe?
To say nothing of, there is still one more critical factor remaining in regards to Wiesel s faith. The
capitalization of one simple word, God. Throughout the entire memoir of Night, not once does Wiesel
fail to capitalize the word, God. Surely, it was out of respect. This would give hope to the reader that
even after all is said and done, Wiesel was not completely stripped of his

My Experience Of My Vacation
Before taking my last vacation, I was almost convinced that affordability and excitement could not

everything you wanted wrapped into one bite for our pleasure. The resort at Hilton Head offered an
economical and comfortable stay; as well as a broad array of activities for a group or an individual of
any age group. Sonesta presented a few packages for comfort and pleasure, that made planning a stay
for the weekend like a cake walk. The prices ranged from $250 per night individually or $135 per
night for groups. I chose the group package because I was traveling with a group of four. After taxes
and security fees were applied, the total cost was $450 for a three day weekend. The customer service
representative also informed me of additional discounts and rewards that could be used if we resided
at the resort. That wasn t a bad deal after all since the security fees were credited back to your account
after you checked out of the resort. The overall customer service experience was one that should go

not help but notice the small gestures of courtesy that the staff showed upon arrival and upon
departure. The atmosphere was welcoming with exceptional greeters. The aroma from various

Virginia And Massachusetts Compare And Contrast
During the early 1600s many new colonies were building up strong economies that produced materials
worthy of trade. These colonies were also experimenting with more freedoms and democratic systems
away from the watchful crown of England. Two colonies, Virginia and Massachusetts, were both able
to be self sustaining colonies despite the vast differences between the two. Virginia s strong economic
independence and Massachusetts strong political freedoms and independence allowed the regions to
establish themselves separate from England.

Massachusetts was established by puritans in order for them to be free from the Anglican church of
England. Massachusetts political system was largely swayed by the puritan church and many laws
enforced biblical rule. The colony was governed by a representative body that required the
representatives, as well as any other legal men, to be within strong standing in the puritan church
before they were permitted to hold any political office. This government allowed the colony and her
people to govern themselves creating a trial ground for democracy. However, the incredibly strict
beliefs of the puritans developed an intolerance of people of other faiths, such as the quakers,
anglicans and catholics, and thus caused a lack of diversity of ideas in the colony. Virginia s
government, on the other hand, was not governed as a bible commonwealth like in massachusetts, this
allowed for more diversity in the colony. In Virginia status was determined by land ownership instead
of standing in the church. This created a class system which excluded many of the freed indentured
servants from any involvement in the government. This eventually caused Bacon s rebellion which
despite its scale caused little immediate change in the Virginia government, however it did make the
government more aware of the freed frontiersmen who were previously ignored. This eventually gave
them more sway in the colonial government which allowed for the eventual formation of a democratic

Pressure Ulcers As A Hospital
Upon admission to a hospital, a patient may be at risk for numerous hospital acquired conditions.
Pressure ulcers, also known as pressure sores or bed sores , are a type of hospital acquired condition
that may develop during a hospital admission if proper risk assessment is not performed by a
registered nurse (RN). Pressure ulcers form over bony prominences, such as the back, heel, ischium,
sacrum, and elbow, when circulation of these prominences is impaired (Jarvis, 2012). Pressure ulcers
may develop when a person is confined to a bed or immobilized, which impedes proper delivery of
oxygen and nutrients to the skin resulting in cell death (Jarvis, 2012). Pressure ulcers are divided into
four stages. In stage I, a nonblanchable redness of intact skin appears that does not disappear for 24
hours after pressure is relieved. In stage II, there is partial thickness erosion of the epidermis or the
dermis layer of the skin. Full thickness pressure ulcers are a stage III ulcer, which extend into
subcutaneous tissue. Lastly, stage IV pressure ulcers involve all skin layers and may expose muscle,
tendon or bone. Pressure ulcers can be prevented if risk assessment is performed and at risk
individuals are identified (DeLaune Ladner, 2011). Risk assessment scales, such as the Braden Scale
and Norton Scale, are used to determine the likelihood of skin breakdown in a patient. The Braden
Scale is divided into six categories that help predict pressure sore risk and each category is

then the doctor only because I think the doctors Vivisection work is inhuman and is wrong in so many
angles. I do not agree because moral practices are important because vivisection crazy.
Later on in the excerpt, he goes on about a certain type of animal with human characteristics. He
explains with a Vivisection is experimental surgery to animals by changing the way they look. Moving
body parts around making animals look into monsters. He tries to portray it as a good science but
Prendick impacts my thoughts on this with terms such as monster and things making it not a normal
creature anymore seen on pages 230. It tells me that these animals do not look the same anymore. So
this surgery they are doing is not saving the animal it is harming the animal. This type of work is
inhuman to the fact that they are testing something that isn t beneficial for the animal or mankind it is
just testing to what can happen. That is insane to cause harm to a living creature to experiment for no
greater cause. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes Prendick uneasy and you can tell by some things the doctor says he does not really have
strict morals like in this quote he says what we call moral education is such an artificial modification
and perversion of instinct (Wells 230). This quote makes me cringe in the fact that he has this idea of
how morals are not real in a sense since something like mindlessly harming innocent animals to makes
them look different is inhuman but he doesn t think that since he has no morals. This just gives me
more reasons to not agree with the doctor because of our differences in moral and human

People s Understanding Of Food
People s understanding of food is shaped by many different things. For example, a Wendy s Power
Mediterranean Chicken Salad, Half sized would be viewed differently by what a person considers
healthy , how they want their body to look like, where they come from, their income level, and
whether they are male or female. Wendy s description of its salad says Here s the nutrient rich, protein
packed fuel you need to power through your day. Always fresh grilled chicken teams up with a savory
ensemble of feta cheese, hummus, and sundried tomato quinoa blend to take this salad to the next
level. This product is available at participating locations. It has 230 calories, 5 grams of fiber, and 20
grams of protein. When it comes to health and the Wendy s salad I view it as a healthier option
compared to the rest of the menu. I would pick this when I feel like eating something that I would
consider is good for me and giving me nutrients. It would make me feel better about myself if I eat the
salad over a cheesburger or chicken nuggets. Someone like Michael Pollan would view this salad as a
healthier option than anything else on the Wendy s menu since it is more plant based with the lettuce,
but he probably still would not recommend it. In his 9 pieces of advice he claims Avoid even those
food products that come bearing health claims (Pollan 13). In the wendy s description it includes many
health claims like nutrient rich , Always fresh , and low amount of calories. Pollan

How To Remove Bears Persuasive Essay
Although, there would be less attacks bears should not be removed because it s their common
territory, people are sensitizing, and it might have been a defensive act. First, bears should not be
removed because it s their common territory and have lived there for most of their lives. In article 2 it
states, Denali National Park and preserve is home to both black bears and grizzly bears (National Park
Service n.p. ). Since, Denali is home to bears that means Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite
National Park is both home to them. If we remove bears we re taking their home away. The second
reason is, bears should not be evacuated because people are interacting with them which makes bears
not be afraid of humans. In article 4 it states,

Culture In African American Culture
Music is a creative art form that allows the artist to construct something that expresses a purpose. It
evolves over time and changes as the world changes, taking on many different motivations behind the
melody and lyrics. In today s society, anger, oppression, racism, and negative opinions rule the media
and popular culture. I believe that African Americans need to show their self worth and not let white
people hold them back. With the music in white culture often mocking African American culture and
portraying negative stereotypes, African Americans have to find ways to gain respect. In
acknowledgement of the negative portrayal of their culture, African Americans respond by creating
songs and videos that express their pride in their culture and heritage, react to white oppression, and
communicate their independence.
Kanye West s Blood on the Leaves is a powerful hip hop song that addresses modern day struggles
such as drugs, sex, and poverty. Throughout the song, the lyrics of Strange Fruits by Billie Holiday
blare from the background, stating strange fruit swinging from the poplar trees... blood on the leaves
(Blood on the Leaves) over and over. The mix of the two styles and lyrics creates a dichotomy
between the days of lynching and black oppression and the current struggles that face African
Americans. The contrast between the different types of oppression draws attention to the current
issues of modern day culture. African Americans in today s society are still

Appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) Appropriate personnel protective equipment (PPE) is critical to ensure that health workers do not contract the diseases when assisting infected patients. In order to ensure that health workers are not infected, timely availability of high quality protective equipment cannot be over emphasized. Since UNICEF supported the government of Sierra Leone in establishing and maintaining an uninterrupted supply of protective clothing and accompanying technologies such as gloves, masks, aprons, etc for the health care workforce during the EBOLA outbreaks, using new PPE. An assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of PPE to personnel against EBOLA will be conducted. The outcome of the assessment should include the following; 1. The number of health workers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Number of community health workers who were infected by EBOLA virus 4. Frequency of use of PPE by health personnel. Based on the findings from the assessment, corrective measures can be put in place to ensure that health workers do not contact the virus when on duty. If the number of health workers who were competent in proper use of PPE and they used it as per manufacture s instructions and still contracted the virus, then they may a need to asses the PPE to ensure that it is of high quality to protect personnel from infection. This can be achieved through working with regulatory authorities, WHO and stringent regulatory authorities to ensure that manufactures who supply PPE are certified. • 4. Rhetorical Devices In One Thousand Paper Cranes Mode Paragraph: The rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes a is narrative that follows the narrative arc. It is narrative because it follows the narrative arc of exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and a resolution throughout the story. The books starts off with the inciting incident of the bomb being on Hiroshima which cause Sadoko to become ill and die in the future. The rising action lets us follow Sadoko as her condition worsens The climax of the book is Sadoko s death if shifted the direction of the book to a what will happen next. The falling action let s Sadoko s class take charge of how the will remember her. The resolution is Sadoko s class fundraising to have the peace park built for all the kids that died because of the radiation. That is why the rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes is narrative. Character Paragraph: In this story Sadoko is the protagonist that is having to overcome the newly grow issue of leukemia. Also this story main focuses on her and her action. I believe Sadoko is a flat character because throughout the book we are reminded of her strong will and determination which was never be deterred until death. Which can be seen when Sadoko is described as being vibrant and athletic and we know on page 32 and toward the end you can see her hard work never ended when she still continued to make paper cranes even after her condition worsened. In addition, I believe Sadoko is a dynamic character. Came to this conclusion, we see her express many different characters. She is happy, saddened at times, kind, Optimistic, and cheerful. In conclusion, I feel these ways because Sadoko s spirit and many character traits stand strong. Point Of View Paragraph: The point of view of this story is third person omniscient because we are able to understand the feelings and thought process inside of each character. The paragraph I will rewrite is on page 41 and I will change the point of view from third person omniscient to first person. • 5. The Prevalence of Younger Students Lying to Health... Communication is a functional, purposeful, and strategic aspect of human socialization. Individuals have the ability make conscious decisions to control their expressive language to manipulate the perceived interpretations of others (Burgoon, Callister, Hunsaker, 445). As people acquire language, they develop sensitivity to the Gricean maxims of conversation. The first of these maxims is Quantity I , or the failure to provide enough information. The second of these maxims is Quantity II , or the provision of too much or redundant information. The third of these maxims is Quality , or veracity (Siegal, Iozzi, and Surian, 2009). These three Gricean maxims of conversation alone encompass the prevalence of various forms of lying in the context of human communication. The significance of lying is that it can change various outcomes that negatively impact various circumstances. In the realm of health care, patients may lie to health professionals for a number of reasons including to acquire unnecessary or excessive medications, to avoid embarrassment or judgment, and to reduce expensive medical charges that may accumulate over time. No matter how well intentioned the doctor faced with a patient in need of help may be, it is he who has the advantage resulting from the knowledge he has (the truth) and his skills: a disproportion occurs between these two parties (Tanasiewicz, 2005, 16). Gay refers to self identification with such practices and desires, like homosexual, both terms mostly used only for men. Lesbian is its female counterpart. Sociological context Since the 1970s, homosexuality has become the topic of an interdisciplinary specialization variously called gay and lesbian, queer or LGBT studies (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender to which sometimes are added QQI: Queer, Questioning and Intersexual). In a survey of 308 Amsterdam students done in 1904, he not only counted the men who identified as homosexual (2%) and bisexual (4%), but as well those who had gay sex during puberty (21%) or homosexual fantasies (6%). In the first Dutch gay novel that appeared this same year, the author Jacob Israël de Haan told how he as a student made fun answering the questions. He already made clear how unreliable such data often are. Hirschfeld also came with the first urban geography, Berlin s Third Gender (1904) in which he described the city s gay subculture of bars and parks and the elaborate world of male prostitution. Mainly German books on the history of sexual morality ( Sittengeschichte ) that often included chapters on homosexuality, preceded and influenced the work of later sociologists and historians, like Norbert Elias and Michel Foucault. The work of these psychiatrists who started to give names, definitions and identities to disease, crime and perversion, made possible the work of sociologists creating labeling theory. In many ways, this early research paved the way for what would become a sociology of (homo)sexuality (Schmeidler 1932). Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an argument has proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good proofreading. All papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical errors, but also for structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I wrongly assume that the reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my argument are actually not expressed clearly. To add on to this view that he is a hard worker with knuckles that are battered and a palm caked hard by dirt, the man is a grafter who works long and hard for the family he loves. The overwhelming joy he feels when he sees his son makes him want to dance in a waltz. Due to him and his father s height difference, the son s ear scraped on the father s belt buckle. The longer they dance the happier he get. This causes him to become more and more clumsier due to his drunken state, and it starts to become too much for the son the handle and begins to become very rough. This dance becomes so rough that the dancing causes the pans to fall to the floor and causes the son to, hang on like death to his father. The mother remains an outsider to what is actually happening in front of her and is naturally unhappy due to the random disturbance the father makes. After the dance is over the son goes to bed and clings to his father s shirt in love and admiration for him. The negative side of this poem is an abusive drunken father. Essay on Direct Democracy vs Representative Democracy Direct Democracy vs Representative Democracy The term Democracy is derived from two Greek words, demos, meaning people, and kratos, meaning rule. These two words form the word democracy which means rule by the people. Aristotle, and other ancient Greek political philosophers, used the phrase, `the governors are to be the governed , or as we have come to know it, `rule and be ruled in turn . The two major types of democracy are Representative Democracy and Direct Democracy. Clearly the arguments for and against each form of democracy are plentiful. Representation, on the other hand allows a select few to make decisions in their own best interest, which is not necessarily the best interest of the society. However, direct democracy is not the perfect method to produce a union of the community. For a direct democracy to work, face to face communication between all members of the community is needed. The only way this is possible is to meet in large groups. Due to the fear of high tension, many citizens will not participate in these large group meeting. So in order for these fearful people to voice their opinions they must get together in smaller, less tensions groups, where they are not as timid to say as they wish to see happen. A direct democracy can only work in a small group, so as a form of government for an entire community or country, direct democracy would definitely fail. As the membership increases, people become less involved. Once the membership reaches the size of a country, the participation still exists, but is limited to as low as it can go. Thus in a country, any form of direct democracy is only possible in individual communities. • 11. Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis Suicide In The Trenches In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques to show his perspective on the true meaning of war. For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. However, in the end, he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is. The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at risk which creates the bitter mood. The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of everyone s personality. For more on this framework proposed by Porter, please see Appendix C. Like other industries operating under free market, capitalistic systems, viewing the automotive industry through the lens of Porter s Five Forces can be helpful in understanding the forces at play. The exception to this statement occurs in the global urban areas with high population densities. In these areas, the substitutes available (e.g., walking, mass transit, bicycles, etc.) can be less costly than automobiles and thus alternative modes of transportation are often preferred. Also, there are inherent underlying social and cultural attitudes that keep people from owning automobiles in some parts of the world. Many nations are not as spread out or as mobile as the U.S.; they are constrained either by geography, race, class, or religion and the need for personal transportation is not as great, yet. By placing pressure on sciatic, obturator, and the crural nerves, the leg could be entirely numbed. Anesthesia by deadly levels of intoxication was also applied as an anesthetic technique. However, this was highly unsuccessful and proved to be more harmful than effective. Wardrop and John Syng Dorsey noted anesthesia by exsanguination. They supported this method of anesthesia as they realized that exsanguination produced a state of syncope, which allowed them to successfully perform surgical procedures with an absence of patient discomfort.. Their findings are seen in some case histories. One noted a 50 year old man with a dislocated hip. However, in the process of adapting to a new and unusual environment, their enters a new variable, and that is stress. • 22. Causes Of Subway Accidents In order to minimize the number of subway accidents, motor vehicle collisions and airplane accidents, state and federal agencies regulate the transportation industry. If a subway accident occurs, safety boards, inspectors and investigators are called upon to investigate the incident. At some point, light rail, subway and commuter rail have all been investigated. Although the injuries sustained during a subway accident are usually much less extensive than those seen in automobile accidents, more people sustain injuries in a subway accident than in a typical car collision. When it comes to accidents involving the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), complex issues must be investigated and analyzed. Some issues that can contribute to an accident include improper employee training, electrical problems and mechanical issues as well as rail concerns. Recent Incidents Involving New York s Subway The MTA states that in 2016 there were 168 incidents involving people being hit by a train with 48 people sustaining fatal injuries: Marking the lowest year end total for individuals fatally struck by subways in five years. Incidents involving train strikes are broken down by the MTA into six categories: people hit in the station (but not while standing on a platform), individuals hit while standing on the platform, people hit outside of the station (i.e., while in a tunnel), attempted suicides, alleged suicides and individuals who fell between the cars. This emotional hold on the daughter seemed to have forced Shangra into believing she needs to take care of her mom, to do so she must indulge herself in illegal activity. • 25. The World War I Led From The Imperialist Age Of The 19th... World War I led to the deaths of over 70 million people in Europe, and destroyed the already weak infrastructure left from the imperialist age of the 19th century. During this time of rebuilding, Germany turned to people they believed would help them rebuild. The people who would rebuild would also destroy the freedoms of the German people through their aggressive takeover. This takeover by the German National Socialist Party, dubbed the Nazi Party by Bavarians, was defined for the brutality and the totalitarian government by which it ruled. So the question is, how did they take over? How did a party made from the hands of but 5 people manage to conquer all of Germany during the 1930s? This is due to the harsh stipulations enforced by the post war efforts of the allied powers and the following collapse of many European countries. Lack of International Cooperation led to the blaming of the Central Powers of Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire after the first World War. The only problem with this was that Germany was the only nation intact after the Armistice Day in 1918. Germany s Imperial government had been overthrown in the German November Revolution of 1918 and had been set up as the new Weimar Republic. This meant that, reluctantly, the German Reichstag had to accept blame for all damages created by the war and the Central Powers. In 1919, after the conclusion of World War I, a formal treaty was signed. This treaty, known as the Treaty of Versaille, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Effects Of Social Media On The Development Of Mobile... Social Media Media Broadcast Marketing The increase of social media and the development of mobile technology in the last decade has been significant, which has transformed the communication strategies and especially with sharing the experiences and how information should be marketed to the target audience. According to Hollensen (2014), the selection of newspapers, web sites, and TV to be used for advertising (series of actions to reach goals) needs to be done (at the same time) with the development of the message theme. The vital question in media selection is whether to use a target or mass approach. When a large percentage of the general public is a potential customer the mass media approach will be most effective. The media approach should be the outcome of a careful fit of local advertising goals, the characteristics of the target market and media attributes. Moreover, media variety can be based on the following criteria: Reach the total number of potential customers in a target market exposed to at least one advertisement in a specific time period. Frequency is the average total of times within a given period, a target market audience is exposed to the same promotion. Impact dependant on compatibility between the message from the media approach and the medium used. During this time in her life, Marjane had but two aspirations: to be a protester, and the next Prophet. Her relationship with God and His messages comes to define itself in the following chapters. On page 46, Marjane looks into the mirror and chants to herself, You have to forgive! You have to forgive! During the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it at any cost. The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side, as well as fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were trapped in the battlefield. Antony Beevor interviewed some of the survivors and discovered new untold stories and facts in a wide range of German and Soviet archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations and reports of desertions and executions. As a story of cruelty, courage, and human suffering, Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable. Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of WW II in Europe. During the course of war, changes in moods, thoughts, and impressions of the Germans, Romanians and Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on the psychological changes of the war but justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we know it. Stalingrad is a story of the well known Battle of Stalingrad that took place on the Eastern Front of Europe during World War II, which is written by world renowned historian Antony Beevor. It covers all the parts of the siege from start to finish, it begins from the Axis invasion of the USSR, right up to the very end of the outcomes of the various prisoners of war that were captured at Stalingrad. On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched his massive army eastward in order to invade the Soviet Union. The invasion covered a front from the North Cape to the Black Sea, a distance of two thousand miles. By this point German military was the best at everything they did, the forces invading Russia represented the best and strongest army to fight during that time. Nevertheless, the opportunity presented itself six months ago in the form of an invitation. That s right! I was finally going to get the mini vacation I was in search of, with all the bells and whistles in one package. The invitation was extended to me, through Dimples and Diamonds empowerment group for women, based out of Savannah, Georgia. Sonesta presented a few packages for comfort and pleasure, that made planning a stay for the weekend like a cake walk. The prices ranged from $250 per night individually or $135 per night for groups. I chose the group package because I was traveling with a group of four. After taxes and security fees were applied, the total cost was $450 for a three day weekend. The customer service representative also informed me of additional discounts and rewards that could be used if we resided at the resort. That wasn t a bad deal after all since the security fees were credited back to your account after you checked out of the resort. The overall customer service experience was one that should go down in the books. If you are one that pride yourself in great customer service; like myself, you could not help but notice the small gestures of courtesy that the staff showed upon arrival and upon departure. This government allowed the colony and her people to govern themselves creating a trial ground for democracy. However, the incredibly strict beliefs of the puritans developed an intolerance of people of other faiths, such as the quakers, anglicans and catholics, and thus caused a lack of diversity of ideas in the colony. Virginia s government, on the other hand, was not governed as a bible commonwealth like in massachusetts, this allowed for more diversity in the colony. Pressure ulcers, also known as pressure sores or bed sores , are a type of hospital acquired condition that may develop during a hospital admission if proper risk assessment is not performed by a registered nurse (RN). Pressure ulcers form over bony prominences, such as the back, heel, ischium, sacrum, and elbow, when circulation of these prominences is impaired (Jarvis, 2012). Pressure ulcers may develop when a person is confined to a bed or immobilized, which impedes proper delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin resulting in cell death (Jarvis, 2012). Pressure ulcers are divided into four stages. In stage I, a nonblanchable redness of intact skin appears that does not disappear for 24 hours after pressure is relieved. In stage II, there is partial thickness erosion of the epidermis or the dermis layer of the skin. Full thickness pressure ulcers are a stage III ulcer, which extend into subcutaneous tissue. Lastly, stage IV pressure ulcers involve all skin layers and may expose muscle, tendon or bone. Pressure ulcers can be prevented if risk assessment is performed and at risk individuals are identified (DeLaune Ladner, 2011). • 40. Culture In African American Culture Music is a creative art form that allows the artist to construct something that expresses a purpose. It evolves over time and changes as the world changes, taking on many different motivations behind the melody and lyrics. In today s society, anger, oppression, racism, and negative opinions rule the media and popular culture. I believe that African Americans need to show their self worth and not let white people hold them back. With the music in white culture often mocking African American culture and portraying negative stereotypes, African Americans have to find ways to gain respect. In acknowledgement of the negative portrayal of their culture, African Americans respond by creating songs and videos that express their pride in their culture and heritage, react to white oppression, and communicate their independence. Kanye West s Blood on the Leaves is a powerful hip hop song that addresses modern day struggles such as drugs, sex, and poverty. Throughout the song, the lyrics of Strange Fruits by Billie Holiday blare from the background, stating strange fruit swinging from the poplar trees... blood on the leaves (Blood on the Leaves) over and over. The mix of the two styles and lyrics creates a dichotomy between the days of lynching and black oppression and the current struggles that face African Americans.
