President Richard Nixon s Political Scandal
The Richard Nixon Assignment
United States President Richard Nixon was involved in a major political scandal during the 1970s that
resulted from a break in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. The scandal was known
as the Watergate scandal. The scandal was called Watergate because it occurred at the Watergate office
complex in Washington, D.C. Nixon and his administration attempted to cover up the scandal, but the
scandal was discovered and investigated by Congress. The scandal comprised of illegal activities such
as bugging of offices, ordering investigations of activist groups and political figures with the use of
the FBI, CIA, and IRS. There were several abuses of power during the scandal and the results of the
scandal and investigation were indictment of sixty nine individuals and Richard Nixon resigning his
office as President of the United States.

The assignment also asked us to determine a baseline or steady tone that was contrasted by pitch or
different vocal pitch. After listening to nearly all of the tapes and reading the transcripts, if I were an
investigator, I would have to say yes there was a clear difference in Nixon s vocal patterns in nearly all
of the tapes that I listened to. During normal conversations that didn t deal with business, his tone
seemed very relaxed, but when questions of the scandal or blackmail came up his voice got louder and
his tone was in my opinion that of an angry, defensive, or frustrated individual. His tone jumped from
relaxed and calm to higher pitches and defensive throughout all of the

Development Of Modernism After World War II
After the Second World War, attention immediately turned towards reconstructing a better world. Like
the earlier world war, it destroyed a previous social and economic order (Curtis, 1996). Many of tall
buildings were built to meet the large number of human requirements. Modernism was rapidly
developed at that time. This essay aims to explore the development of modernism after World War II
by compare and contrast the two apartments which are Hansaviertel Apartment in German and Society
Hill Towers in the USA. It first discusses the similarity of the two chosen buildings. Then explains the
difference of design, which includes surroundings, building form and the apartment layout.
Furthermore, explore the factors lead to those difference which are policy, the influence of the other
architects and architects own belief.
As cities were destroyed during the war, there were increasing needs of buildings especially the
apartments and houses. These two chosen projects have the same functions as apartments. They were
both high rise buildings, which were built as a part of the redevelopment of the city after the war. The
Hansaviertel Apartment was built in 1957, Berlin, Germany and designed by Alar Aalto. The other one
is named Society Hill Towers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I.M Pei is the designer for this apartment.
The two apartments were built at the same time but contrast greatly in term of design, which can
represent the several kinds of development of modernism after the

The Relevance Of Justice In Plato s Republic
In Plato s Republic, Socrates engages in a dialogue to defend justice as a worthy virtue. His
conversation partners challenge him to legitimize a concept that is seemingly burdensome on those
who abide by it and is, at best, an inconsistent attempt at fairness for those it is meant to serve. In
Book I, Cephalus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus put forth flawed definitions of justice that range
from limited to cynical and self serving. Socrates is able to refute their ill conceived perceptions of
righteousness and, in doing so, present a doctrine that leads to the benefit of those who adhere to it and
society at large. The central aim of said doctrine, education for the sake of knowing goodness, is
neglected by Socrates companions, yet is vital for ensuring a justice that is desirable for both its
consequences and its very essence. Cephalus, the first to offer a definition, posits that justice is giving
what is owed and conducting oneself with honesty. This appears to be a commonplace yet strong
image of justice, ingratiated within man s consciousness as the ancient system of reward and
retribution. Socrates, however, is quick in finding its limitations. He puts forth the scenario of one who
is in possession of a crazed man s weapon. Giving the man his property would be a just action
according to this definition; however, he may go on to harm others with it (331c). Justice, they agree,
could not result in this outcome. The only situation in which this definition would be viable is one
where every person has both full knowledge of the good and is aware of all consequences that could
arise from any action; circumstances such as these are clearly impossible given human limitations. A
parallel can be drawn between Socrates refutation and elements of modern societies: for example,
those who are deemed a threat to themselves or others due to their mental state can be involuntarily
committed to a controlled environment for a set amount of time. This lends credence to Socrates idea
of justice in that his words, recorded over two thousand years ago, bear great relevance in societies far
larger and more complex than his own. Cephalus, seeing that his definition is lacking, excuses himself
from the dialogue.

Raising Capital in the Financial Markets
CHAPTER 14
Raising Capital in the Financial Markets
CHAPTER ORIENTATION
This chapter considers the market environment in which long term capital is raised. The underlying
rationale for the existence of security markets is presented, investment banking services and
procedures are detailed, private placements are discussed, and security market regulation is reviewed.
CHAPTER OUTLINE
I. The mix of corporate securities sold in the capital market.
A. When corporations raise cash in the capital market, what type of financing vehicle is most favored?
The answer to this question is corporate bonds. The corporate debt markets clearly dominate the
corporate equity markets when new (external) funds are being raised.
B. From our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. The capital market consists of the institutions and procedures that provide for transactions in long
term financial instruments. This market encompasses those securities that have maturity periods
extending beyond 1 year.
D. Organized security exchanges can be distinguished from over the counter markets.
1. Organized security exchanges are tangible entities whose activities are governed by a set of bylaws.
Security exchanges physically occupy space and financial instruments are traded on such premises.
a. Major stock exchanges must comply with a strict set of reporting requirements established by the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). These exchanges are said to be registered.
b. Organized security exchanges provide several benefits to both corporations and investors. They (l)
provide a continuous market, (2) establish and publicize fair security prices, and (3) help businesses
raise new financial capital.
c. A corporation must take steps to have its securities listed on an exchange in order to directly receive
the benefits noted above. Listing criteria differ from exchange to exchange.
2. Over the counter markets include all security markets except the organized exchanges. The money
market is a prominent example. Most corporate bonds are traded over the counter.

Bitter And Sweet Relationships
Relationships are a critical part in the everyday lives of humans. People create relationships with
others, whether they realize it or not. Some bonds are different than others. Hateful, happy, or grateful
may be a type of bond you have with another peer. There also could be a lack of relationships between
two or more people. Having a lacking relationship with a parent may impact a kids life and how they
parent their own kids. There are many different types of relationships for a variety of reasons in the
novel later introduced. What caused some of these relationships to differ were race, war, and racial
discrimination. In the novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford, the bonds that

Narrative Therapy Essay
Introduction Often times, people live through painful events in their life that can alter their perception
of themselves, their family, and the world. Narrative therapy offers the client the opportunity to re
write their story and gain a different perspective of specific events. It is important to understand that
within the history of narrative therapy, therapists view client s stories through a political lens. Often
times, focusing on the oppression and cultural dominance that exists within the constructs of our
society. Thus, empowering clients to change their story allows them to break free from the constraints
that have shaped their outlook and allow for alternative ways of thinking.
Background of Narrative Therapy According to Atkinson Leslie (2011), narrative therapy is a
postmodern approach, which holds the client as the center of their own perceptions and results in their
personal actions and beliefs. The therapist is there to assist the author (client) in re writing or
developing new stories so that change can occur. This allows the family to create new roles and
understanding of themselves and their family, by creating a new story. Michael White was the pioneer
of narrative therapy and along with David Epston s approach to storytelling and therapeutic letters
they were able to develop this approach. Michael White s wife, Cheryl White, was also instrumental in
assisting these men in the development and publication of their works. Their work was made

15th Century Chapter Summaries
I have been aware of the Chinese voyages in the 15th Century for several years, I read a book written
by a British Naval Officer on the Chinese cross ocean voyages of the 15th Century. Although I now
find that some people find the above mentioned book to be fiction, I find that description fits in with
my current thinking on history in general. This story and history as a whole can be more about the
story teller than the story. Historians not only find themselves recording, discovering, and interpreting
history, but they must guard against judging what they decide to pass on to society.
History is written in the context of a given time, it can be helpful to compare history to other times and
cultures in order to find some balance of thinking. However coercion is also at play whenever history
is told. Those that win wars, whether on the battlefield, oceans, or the minds of people, are the ones
that write history. The Confucian scholars of Zheng He s time chose ... Show more content on

decided that the Chinese missed an opportunity to control the world, had a culture of complacency and

The Case Of The Exclusive Pink Color Essay
Risks and Impact Risks can vary depending on the specific item that is launched. In the case of the
exclusive pink color introduction of the toy medical kit, the risks associated with this launch will be
somewhat minimized, given the success of the existing green medical kit available to all retailers.
While the risk is minimized with the existing history of the item, the color itself has the potential to
limit the demographics. The medical kit is rated for an age range of three to six years old. (Fisher
Price, n.d.) While this item can be used by all children, pink is generally viewed as a female specific
color choice. Parents may still choose to purchase the green kit to make it appealing to all children in
the family. It may unintentionally limit the amount of people this specific color would appeal to, thus
creating a slower inventory turn. Fisher Price would run this color in a batch production but any
unsold inventory creates a liability. Additional risks can be in the production itself. Toys are in a very
regulated industry and any defects in production that are not within the regulatory standards can be
either recalled if they are already being sold to consumers or cause the entire production run to be
discarded or destroyed. Both instances are very costly but taking the initiative to create a safe work
environment that is compliant with all regulations can mitigate that risk.

Futility In The Zookeeper s Wife
The sheer brutality of the Nazi regime prior to and during World War II not only created an aura of
futility for the millions of women caught directly in the line of sight, but also transformed the absolute
essence of coping with this futility through gendered experiences becoming radically altered. In The
Zookeeper s Wife, Antonina, as the wife of Jan Zabinski, the director of the Warsaw Zoo, shaped both
her domestic and professional undertakings around the mammals that intricately intertwined with her
life. Thus, following the German invasion of Poland and with all semblances of life flipped on its

An Overview On The Investment Services Industry
Industry Information and Overview:
The investment services industry is one of the fastest paced and rapidly evolving sectors of the
economy. The industry is highly dependent on the state of the economy and is highly cyclical. In 2000
when established firms in the industry began to tap the potential of the Internet, trading volumes
crashed in what is now termed the Dot Com bubble. In 2002 when it seemed that innovative
technology and telecommunications companies would continuously improve business productivity,
the technology and telecom sectors crashed. More recently, just when the industry thought it figured
out how to rig the mortgage market to secure record profits with little to no risk, the entire mortgage
market crashed and created a liquidity crisis and a recession that would be later described as the Great
Recession. Investment services firms have learned time and time again that they still must contend
with an inevitable cycle of boom and bust.
The primary functions of an Investment Bank:

Comparing The Book Of Proverbs And Ecclesiastes
Looking at the books of wisdom of the Old Testament, the ideas of diligence and laziness have been
greatly captured. Diligence has been displayed in a much positive way, unlike laziness which has been
greatly condemned and looked down upon in most of the books of wisdom in the Old Testament
(Hindson and Yates 2012). Though the two ideas looked to have been intertwined making them
closely related, they are totally different from each other. It must be understood that the books of
proverbs and Ecclesiastes are the books of wisdom that have handled the two ideas in more expansive
manner and thus become our center of focus as we discuss the two in greater details.
As stated above, the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes provide a wide description ... Show more

In this, we are able to infer that listening to a diligent person is more important than listening to a lazy
person. This is because a diligent person is a person who is full of wisdom, unlike a lazy person who
is full of foolishness (Ecclesiastes 10:10 12 RSV). It has been stated in the book of Ecclesiastes that
those words that come out of the mouth of a wise person are more gracious and blessing than those
that comes out of a foolish person whose words are full of foolishness and their end is mere madness.
It is, therefore, clear that those words that come out of a diligent person have a lot of wisdom are
greatly valued as compared to those words that come out of a lazy person which are full of
foolishness. Such words can only lead to madness and nothing good can ever come out of them as
compared to those from a diligent person which are more gracious and valuable. Laziness is therefore
regarded as evil and has nothing good to offer to anyone and no one should pay attention to people
with such qualities and tendencies. Ecclesiastes encourages us to pay more attention to the diligent
people as they have a lot of wisdom which if put into practice; the results are good and much

Johns Reflection And Gibbs Reflection in Nursing Practice
Introduction: In this essay, I will discuss several issues that seem to bind nursing practice with
questions of ethics, sociology and management. Reflective practice is an important aspect of nursing
management and in this essay we discuss implications of discrimination in nursing care and examine
the importance of anti discriminatory perspectives in nursing. In this paper, the case study I will
elaborate is of an elderly woman who was of a non British ethnic origin and spoke little English. A
junior nurse visited her home to provide care but her attitude towards the patient has been
discriminatory and abrupt, a situation that calls for serious reflection on the issues of racial
discrimination at the clinical setting. The patient was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gustaffson and Fagerberg point out that reflective practice has relevance for clinical practice as by
understanding the contents of nurses reflections, it is also possible to understand the advantages of
reflective practice and how and when such measures should be used by the nurses for further
professional development. Fairley (2005) gives a consultant nurse perspective of a clinical role in
critical care unit that has evolved as a central feature of all surgical high dependency units (SDHU) in
large teaching hospital trusts. Advanced nursing practice is perceived not as the acquisition and
application of technical procedures which are usually undertaken by doctors, but also an integration of
medicine and nursing where holistic nursing assessment and symptom focused physical examination
go hand in hand. Fairley presents a reflective account of practical problems encountered relating to
role integration, professional autonomy, legal and consent issues, non medical prescribing, and role
evaluation (Fairley, 2005). The paper successfully describes a model of nursing applied to high
dependency units integrating the role of the advanced nurse practitioner within the medical and
clinical team an reflective practice plays an important role by being the main method of evaluation of
a consultant nurse perspective. In a

In comparison to text based performances, those of a non text based nature can illustrate the unity
between cultures with less difficulty due to universally understood practices and semiotics in an

the example of performing the dark arts . The will ensue performances of ritualised purposes,

As the performance of illusion and secular magic does so already. Secular magic, being of a non text
based nature does not, as previously mentioned, follow such rigid performance boundaries as text
based performances that stem from plays or scripts, for instance. A dramatic text can often represent
eras, time periods or a social or political message that can be taken in reference to that era or time. Not
to say that non text based performances do not, but somehow non text based performances can seem a
little more lenient when it comes to the recreation of an event. Often with classic work, such as that of
Shakespeare or Ibsen, it is a sensitive area when modernising such texts or even conveying them in a
non westernised setting as contextual elements of the original work can be lost. Similarly there are
linguistic barriers with such texts as different translations can blur the effect of the original dialogue.
Yet, if there is no translation at all then there is an obvious language barrier for those reading or
viewing a performance. Simon During

pictures where the 1800 s looked more realistic than in Amistad. There were special settings that
captured my attention. When Cinque was telling the translator about how he was captured, the setting
in Africa was unanticipated. I was looking forward to the scene being more along the lines of jungles
and wild animals, but instead it looked like a scene from Jamaica. Another scene that caught my
attention were the courtroom settings. Having knowledge about the size of older buildings and rooms
within those buildings, I knew things were not as spacious as they are now. The movie did a fabulous
job of showing that. In the movie, everyone looked compacted into one space and it looked over
capacitated. The judge s stand did not look so superior like it does now. The plaintiff and defendant
stands looked like regular tables and desks. The movie did a great job replicating a slave ship. When
the slaves were on the ship, their clothing, hair, and props like shackles, weapons, and chains looked
realistic. It had an excellent impact to the storyline of the slaves. The clothing worn by the English
men, soldiers, and Queen Isabella, were accurate regarding how they dressed in the 1800 s. The way
they spoke also gave it a more realistic feel. Having English, Mende, and Spanish spoken throughout
the movie made it have a special

Divorce Mediation And A Divorce Mediator
Keywords: Divorce mediator Broadrun VA, Divorce Mediation lawyer in Virginia, Business Disputes
in Virginia, Business Litigation in Broadrun VA
The Role of a Divorce Mediator in Broadrun, VA
Although a judge and a divorce mediator in Broadrun, Virginia both have the ability to finalize a
divorce case, the way they do so is quite different. The role of a divorce mediator in Broadrun,
Virginia is more of a helping one. In contrast, the role of a judge is that of a decision maker. In most
instances, the parties are more satisfied with the results of their cases when they use a divorce
mediator, primarily because they are able to have a direct role in the negotiation of a settlement
agreement.
A divorce mediator assists the parties in a divorce case with creating a settlement agreement. To do so,
the divorce mediator will first meet with the parties to discuss their positions in the dispute. The
divorce mediator will next attempt to help the parties find common ground in their positions. Once the
parties have reached agreement on an issue, the mediator will make note of the agreement and move
on to the next contested issue. Issue by issue, the divorce mediator will discuss the case with the
parties and help them settle as many issues as possible.
Whereas a judge will make a decision for the parties, the mediator helps them make their own
decisions. In fact, a mediator has no decision making power during mediation. The fate of the case is
entirely in the hands of the parties.

Broken Glass Jewish Essay
Broken Glass Jewish
In 1938, the onset of violent anti Semitic riots in Germany created one of the most horrific struggles of
our time. Not only did this outrageous holocaust bring sadness and death to the Jews in Germany but
also to the ones living here in America. In, The Broken Glass, by Arthur Miller, we see the lives of
three completely different characters portrayed. First, we see Sylvia Gullberg, who has been a
housewife ever since her husband Philip made her quit. She is the first one to be affected by the news
in Germany. Her husband, Phillip, has been hiding from his race ever since he was a teen, and because
of this ruins his marriage and ultimately his life. Lastly, Dr. Harry Hyman, who views everything with
his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He even has gender issues. For example, Philip say s, If my wife were a man, she could be director of
the Federal Reserve, and you can talk to my wife like she s a man. These are certainly statements that
he would not be saying about his wife if he thought gender wasn t a problem. As far as their marriage
goes, Philip and Sylvia have a very business like relationship. He feels he is the man of the house,
which is why he won t let her work. Unfortunately, this way of living for so many years has torn
Sylvia apart from him. I believe Sylvia Gullberg is the strongest character throughout this movie.
Unfortunately, she too has been living a lie for the past twenty years as a housewife and now even as
she lay paralyzed in bed, fights to make a difference. Once a businesswoman, she gave up all of that
for everyone s sake but her own. And now after all those years of hiding, she will not do so anymore.
One of the most difficult things she must face is the realization of her husband, Philip, being afraid of
his own race. Sylvia is a very well informed and respected lady. Even Dr. Hyman cannot escape the
beauty and inner drive that she possesses. For example, Dr Hyman tells her he has not been so moved
by a woman in a long time and is unsure if he can continue treating her. Time and time again she is
constantly giving while not ever receiving. Even as she lay paralyzed on the steps of her house, she
keeps saying sorry to her

Jem Bravery In Lord Of The Flies
Throughout the novel, Jem s definition of courage shifts over time, indicative of his maturing
personality. As the story begins, Jem s superficial idea of courage reveals his immature nature, as his
ignorance defines his judgement. At the start of the novel, Jem s idea of bravery is simply touching the
side of the Radley house, and then only because In all his life, Jem had never declined a dare. In this
instance Jem has an urge to boast about his masculinity, in the form of a perceived bravery. However,
contrary to what Jem thinks, this act of courage merely supports his innocence as he is yet to
experience the real plight of society and the true courage which comes with that. With Jem s lack of
understanding, Harper Lee criticises the traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While facing a long lasting fight with her addiction to morphine, Ms Dubose s effort to kick this habit
reveals her true fortitude during a dark time for her. Atticus is one of the only characters who
acknowledges this bravery as he tries to show Jem what real courage is. Once again Atticus attempts
to teach the Children the importance of perseverance, not the traditional, masculine and southern idea
of bravery. Lee s inclusion of Ms Dubose s courage is also critical of the stereotypes during the civil
rights movement. After being introduced as a horrible witch like figure, Ms Dubose is eventually seen
as the bravest person [Atticus] ever knew. Through her tremendous courage, Ms Dubose defies her
original stereotype as Lee attempts to picture her dying in goodness. In doing this, Lee criticises the
stereotypes of the 1950 s. Despite not directly linking to the situation of Ms Dubose, the prejudice
toward the African American society, merely based on an uneducated, common belief, is denounced as
Lee introduces her society to a women who defies her preconceived image through a tremendous
amount courage. Lee uses Ms Dubose to demonstrate not only a new idea of bravery but to
characterise the faults in society s

Voltaire s View Of Oppression From The Authority
It is dangerous to be right in matters about which the established authorities are wrong.
Voltaire
The struggles against authority, repeatedly and continuously, take place in the history. As for those
fighters, Voltaire, a famous French writer and thinker, once put forward an idea, It is dangerous to be
right in matters about which the established authorities are wrong. () The word right contrasting to
wrong means the truth. An established authorities could be regarded to the dominant powers
controlling and guiding people, such as long existing conventions held and propagated by the power
holders or the influential experts in specific fields. The article will support the idea of Voltaire by
providing sufficient and concrete evidences. It is reasonable that people might suffer the possibility of
oppression from the authority, when the ideas of the former contrasts to the latter who tend to retain its
status. The challenger is dangerous in the way that the power of authorities, at most time, overwhelm
them; the characteristic of opposing ideas invites the oppression by authority. It is possible to receive
potential danger from the authority, while some did succeed in the struggle.
It is obvious that the comparison between two power is usually dismatched. The opponents are often
overshadowed by the authorities, in turn, the opponents are weaker, two aspects in particular.
Convention gets in the way of innovation and rebellion. It also restricted by the contemporary

Waterbed Research Paper
The waterbed, a mattress full of water, but it s not just that it s much more. Well, it s not a lot a lot
more it just is a little more than just a water bed. Right now you might think the water bed is a boring
invention and how could I get enough information for this report but you might actually be surprised
and impressed of what this invention is for and does for other people and how it could affect people if
this invention ( the water bed ) was never invented.
It has a kind of a long story, starting 3,000 years ago. According to legend, the first water bed was
made of goat skin and was made 3,000 years ago, but no one actually knows for sure. This is why it
isn t long because if it was 3,000 years ago then it would have a long story, ... Show more content on

You might think that the waterbed might not affect the world much if it wasn t invented, but it would
actually affect many people s lives. Well to start it would affect many people s lives because most
people in hospitals that need back pain treatment or have pressure ulcers might not have a place to
actually get treatment for their problems. Then, they would probably have body pain for a really long
time. Well, it was helpful in a way for lots of people and in a way effected everyone s lives because
even the people that sold waterbed would be affected if the waterbed wasn t invented because they
might not even have a job for a living and probably be poor this very instant.
It is actually better than regular beds in my opinion. I mean it lasts longer, you could control the
temperature, you could fall asleep faster and with less ease I mean what else you want to know so you
can buy one. It probably is in fact better than a regular mattress bed. Both of these are good and have
similarities that can make them both convenient to buy but in the end the waterbed ends up winning
depending in how you see it. Sometimes they can actually kill babies because they drown the

Decoding is very important because then it becomes easier to understand medical terminology. You
should first break down the word by evaluating the meaning of the suffix, then prefix, and then the
word root. This will in able a worker to identify what it is that is going on and be able to describe it to
their patient and to the doctor or physician when asked. But first the worker needs to have a good
sense of the origin of words which is called etymology. (Theirer Breitbard, 2007, p. 1 4)Once you
have the basic rules down you should be able to put words together and take them apart by decoding
them. You also need to make sure that the spelling and pronunciation are correct because if a medical
term is used incorrectly, it can become very dangerous and sometimes life threatening because you
diagnose wrong procedures and medication. It creates a communication for health care professionals
to make sure that a patient is treated with the highest amount of service and to ensure that they are
being treated with the right medication. Decoding is essential but the father of medicine also wrote the
Hippocratic Oath. In this Oath physicians are meant to promise to practice medicine the right way. To
make sure their pronunciation and spelling was always accurate and correct. The Oath has been in use
for over two thousand years and physicians and doctors are to follow the Oath to the best

During normal conversations that didn t deal with business, his tone seemed very relaxed, but when questions of the scandal or blackmail came up his voice got louder and his tone was in my opinion that of an angry, defensive, or frustrated individual. • 3. Development Of Modernism After World War II After the Second World War, attention immediately turned towards reconstructing a better world. Like the earlier world war, it destroyed a previous social and economic order (Curtis, 1996). Many of tall buildings were built to meet the large number of human requirements. Modernism was rapidly developed at that time. This essay aims to explore the development of modernism after World War II by compare and contrast the two apartments which are Hansaviertel Apartment in German and Society Hill Towers in the USA. It first discusses the similarity of the two chosen buildings. Then explains the difference of design, which includes surroundings, building form and the apartment layout. Furthermore, explore the factors lead to those difference which are policy, the influence of the other architects and architects own belief. As cities were destroyed during the war, there were increasing needs of buildings especially the apartments and houses. These two chosen projects have the same functions as apartments. They were both high rise buildings, which were built as a part of the redevelopment of the city after the war. The Hansaviertel Apartment was built in 1957, Berlin, Germany and designed by Alar Aalto. The other one is named Society Hill Towers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I.M Pei is the designer for this apartment. The two apartments were built at the same time but contrast greatly in term of design, which can represent the several kinds of development of modernism after the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Relevance Of Justice In Plato s Republic In Plato s Republic, Socrates engages in a dialogue to defend justice as a worthy virtue. His conversation partners challenge him to legitimize a concept that is seemingly burdensome on those who abide by it and is, at best, an inconsistent attempt at fairness for those it is meant to serve. In Book I, Cephalus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus put forth flawed definitions of justice that range from limited to cynical and self serving. Socrates is able to refute their ill conceived perceptions of righteousness and, in doing so, present a doctrine that leads to the benefit of those who adhere to it and society at large. The central aim of said doctrine, education for the sake of knowing goodness, is neglected by Socrates companions, yet is vital for ensuring a justice that is desirable for both its consequences and its very essence. Cephalus, the first to offer a definition, posits that justice is giving what is owed and conducting oneself with honesty. This appears to be a commonplace yet strong image of justice, ingratiated within man s consciousness as the ancient system of reward and retribution. Socrates, however, is quick in finding its limitations. He puts forth the scenario of one who is in possession of a crazed man s weapon. Giving the man his property would be a just action according to this definition; however, he may go on to harm others with it (331c). Justice, they agree, could not result in this outcome. The only situation in which this definition would be viable is one where every person has both full knowledge of the good and is aware of all consequences that could arise from any action; circumstances such as these are clearly impossible given human limitations. A parallel can be drawn between Socrates refutation and elements of modern societies: for example, those who are deemed a threat to themselves or others due to their mental state can be involuntarily committed to a controlled environment for a set amount of time. This lends credence to Socrates idea of justice in that his words, recorded over two thousand years ago, bear great relevance in societies far larger and more complex than his own. Cephalus, seeing that his definition is lacking, excuses himself from the dialogue. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Narrative Therapy Essay Introduction Often times, people live through painful events in their life that can alter their perception of themselves, their family, and the world. Narrative therapy offers the client the opportunity to re write their story and gain a different perspective of specific events. It is important to understand that within the history of narrative therapy, therapists view client s stories through a political lens. Often times, focusing on the oppression and cultural dominance that exists within the constructs of our society. Thus, empowering clients to change their story allows them to break free from the constraints that have shaped their outlook and allow for alternative ways of thinking. Background of Narrative Therapy According to Atkinson Leslie (2011), narrative therapy is a postmodern approach, which holds the client as the center of their own perceptions and results in their personal actions and beliefs. The therapist is there to assist the author (client) in re writing or developing new stories so that change can occur. This allows the family to create new roles and understanding of themselves and their family, by creating a new story. Michael White was the pioneer of narrative therapy and along with David Epston s approach to storytelling and therapeutic letters they were able to develop this approach. Michael White s wife, Cheryl White, was also instrumental in assisting these men in the development and publication of their works. Their work was made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although I now find that some people find the above mentioned book to be fiction, I find that description fits in with my current thinking on history in general. This story and history as a whole can be more about the story teller than the story. Historians not only find themselves recording, discovering, and interpreting history, but they must guard against judging what they decide to pass on to society. History is written in the context of a given time, it can be helpful to compare history to other times and cultures in order to find some balance of thinking. However coercion is also at play whenever history is told. Those that win wars, whether on the battlefield, oceans, or the minds of people, are the ones that write history. • 11. The Case Of The Exclusive Pink Color Essay Risks and Impact Risks can vary depending on the specific item that is launched. In the case of the exclusive pink color introduction of the toy medical kit, the risks associated with this launch will be somewhat minimized, given the success of the existing green medical kit available to all retailers. While the risk is minimized with the existing history of the item, the color itself has the potential to limit the demographics. The medical kit is rated for an age range of three to six years old. (Fisher Price, n.d.) While this item can be used by all children, pink is generally viewed as a female specific color choice. Parents may still choose to purchase the green kit to make it appealing to all children in the family. It may unintentionally limit the amount of people this specific color would appeal to, thus creating a slower inventory turn. Fisher Price would run this color in a batch production but any unsold inventory creates a liability. Additional risks can be in the production itself. Toys are in a very regulated industry and any defects in production that are not within the regulatory standards can be either recalled if they are already being sold to consumers or cause the entire production run to be discarded or destroyed. Both instances are very costly but taking the initiative to create a safe work environment that is compliant with all regulations can mitigate that risk. In The Zookeeper s Wife, Antonina, as the wife of Jan Zabinski, the director of the Warsaw Zoo, shaped both her domestic and professional undertakings around the mammals that intricately intertwined with her life. Thus, following the German invasion of Poland and with all semblances of life flipped on its head, she embraced the role of not only a mother for her children and the animals, but also as a defender of those unable to escape the ruthless liquidation process of her fellow human beings. • 15. An Overview On The Investment Services Industry Industry Information and Overview: The investment services industry is one of the fastest paced and rapidly evolving sectors of the economy. The industry is highly dependent on the state of the economy and is highly cyclical. In 2000 when established firms in the industry began to tap the potential of the Internet, trading volumes crashed in what is now termed the Dot Com bubble. In 2002 when it seemed that innovative technology and telecommunications companies would continuously improve business productivity, the technology and telecom sectors crashed. More recently, just when the industry thought it figured out how to rig the mortgage market to secure record profits with little to no risk, the entire mortgage market crashed and created a liquidity crisis and a recession that would be later described as the Great Recession. Investment services firms have learned time and time again that they still must contend with an inevitable cycle of boom and bust. Diligence has been displayed in a much positive way, unlike laziness which has been greatly condemned and looked down upon in most of the books of wisdom in the Old Testament (Hindson and Yates 2012). Though the two ideas looked to have been intertwined making them closely related, they are totally different from each other. It must be understood that the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes are the books of wisdom that have handled the two ideas in more expansive manner and thus become our center of focus as we discuss the two in greater details. As stated above, the books of proverbs and Ecclesiastes provide a wide description ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this, we are able to infer that listening to a diligent person is more important than listening to a lazy person. This is because a diligent person is a person who is full of wisdom, unlike a lazy person who is full of foolishness (Ecclesiastes 10:10 12 RSV). It has been stated in the book of Ecclesiastes that those words that come out of the mouth of a wise person are more gracious and blessing than those that comes out of a foolish person whose words are full of foolishness and their end is mere madness. It is, therefore, clear that those words that come out of a diligent person have a lot of wisdom are greatly valued as compared to those words that come out of a lazy person which are full of foolishness. Such words can only lead to madness and nothing good can ever come out of them as compared to those from a diligent person which are more gracious and valuable. Laziness is therefore regarded as evil and has nothing good to offer to anyone and no one should pay attention to people with such qualities and tendencies. Ecclesiastes encourages us to pay more attention to the diligent people as they have a lot of wisdom which if put into practice; the results are good and much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Johns Reflection And Gibbs Reflection in Nursing Practice Introduction: In this essay, I will discuss several issues that seem to bind nursing practice with questions of ethics, sociology and management. Reflective practice is an important aspect of nursing management and in this essay we discuss implications of discrimination in nursing care and examine the importance of anti discriminatory perspectives in nursing. In this paper, the case study I will elaborate is of an elderly woman who was of a non British ethnic origin and spoke little English. A junior nurse visited her home to provide care but her attitude towards the patient has been discriminatory and abrupt, a situation that calls for serious reflection on the issues of racial discrimination at the clinical setting. Gustaffson and Fagerberg point out that reflective practice has relevance for clinical practice as by understanding the contents of nurses reflections, it is also possible to understand the advantages of reflective practice and how and when such measures should be used by the nurses for further professional development. Fairley (2005) gives a consultant nurse perspective of a clinical role in critical care unit that has evolved as a central feature of all surgical high dependency units (SDHU) in large teaching hospital trusts. Advanced nursing practice is perceived not as the acquisition and application of technical procedures which are usually undertaken by doctors, but also an integration of medicine and nursing where holistic nursing assessment and symptom focused physical examination go hand in hand. Fairley presents a reflective account of practical problems encountered relating to role integration, professional autonomy, legal and consent issues, non medical prescribing, and role evaluation (Fairley, 2005). The paper successfully describes a model of nursing applied to high dependency units integrating the role of the advanced nurse practitioner within the medical and clinical team an reflective practice plays an important role by being the main method of evaluation of a consultant nurse perspective. Battle Of Hamburger Hill Essay The Battle of hamburger Hill The Battle at Dong Ap Bia occurred during Operation Apache Snow during The Vietnam War, which had the aim of clearing the People s Army of Vietnam (PAVN) and Viet Cong (VC) from the A shau Valley in South Vietnam. This valley was situated near the border with Laos, and it had become a haven for communist forces and major infiltration route into the south. This operation was initiated on 10 May 10 1969 with the specific purpose of destroying the PAVN and VC forces believed to be grouped in the A shau Valley, blocking enemy routes of egress in Laos, interdicting enemy lines of communication and locating and destroying known enemy caches. In its 27 June issue, Life Magazine published the photographs of 241 Americans killed in one week in Vietnam; this is now considered a watershed event of the negative public opinion toward the Vietnam War. While only five of the 241 featured photos were of those in the battle, many Americans had the perception that all of the photos featured in the magazine were casualties of the battle. The controversy of the conduct of the battle of Hamburger Hill led to a reappraisal of the U.S. strategy in South Vietnam. Essay on Performing Dark Arts In comparison to text based performances, those of a non text based nature can illustrate the unity between cultures with less difficulty due to universally understood practices and semiotics in an increasingly globalised world. Non text based performances provide both beneficial and critical elements when compared to text based performances and this will be analysed and demonstrated with the example of performing the dark arts . The will ensue performances of ritualised purposes, conjuring shows, illusionary performances, stage trickery and what is identified as magic (more so than supernatural phenomenon or witchcraft) in order to theorise how non text based performance has shaped modern cultures, partially through globalisation, ... Secular magic, being of a non text based nature does not, as previously mentioned, follow such rigid performance boundaries as text based performances that stem from plays or scripts, for instance. A dramatic text can often represent eras, time periods or a social or political message that can be taken in reference to that era or time. Not to say that non text based performances do not, but somehow non text based performances can seem a little more lenient when it comes to the recreation of an event. Often with classic work, such as that of Shakespeare or Ibsen, it is a sensitive area when modernising such texts or even conveying them in a non westernised setting as contextual elements of the original work can be lost. Similarly there are linguistic barriers with such texts as different translations can blur the effect of the original dialogue. Yet, if there is no translation at all then there is an obvious language barrier for those reading or viewing a performance. Simon During ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Cinque was telling the translator about how he was captured, the setting in Africa was unanticipated. I was looking forward to the scene being more along the lines of jungles and wild animals, but instead it looked like a scene from Jamaica. Another scene that caught my attention were the courtroom settings. Having knowledge about the size of older buildings and rooms within those buildings, I knew things were not as spacious as they are now. The movie did a fabulous job of showing that. In the movie, everyone looked compacted into one space and it looked over capacitated. The judge s stand did not look so superior like it does now. The plaintiff and defendant stands looked like regular tables and desks. The movie did a great job replicating a slave ship. The role of a divorce mediator in Broadrun, Virginia is more of a helping one. In contrast, the role of a judge is that of a decision maker. In most instances, the parties are more satisfied with the results of their cases when they use a divorce mediator, primarily because they are able to have a direct role in the negotiation of a settlement agreement. A divorce mediator assists the parties in a divorce case with creating a settlement agreement. To do so, the divorce mediator will first meet with the parties to discuss their positions in the dispute. The divorce mediator will next attempt to help the parties find common ground in their positions. Once the parties have reached agreement on an issue, the mediator will make note of the agreement and move on to the next contested issue. Issue by issue, the divorce mediator will discuss the case with the parties and help them settle as many issues as possible.
