The structure may lose its aesthetic and functionality due to minor tremors and needs repairs; it will be a very unfavourable design. In addition to earthquake forces there may be wind or any vibrations which induce lateral loads in a structure. In our work we have taken only the earthquake load to find a system which balances the lateral loads and minimizes the displacements of the floors. With the literature review, it was founded that bracing in a structural system reduces the story drift and reduces the lateral force effect. To examine the performance of the bracings, bracing types like X and V bracings are considered and an analysis is performed in ETABS software. Base isolation or seismic base isolation is an effective means for protection of structures, its contents and its occupants during the event of an earthquake. The principle of base isolation is vibration isolation. It decouples the building from damaging action of the earthquake. The isolator partially reflects and partially absorbs input seismic energy before it gets transmitted to the superstructure. Laminated Rubber Bearing Isolators are placed between the superstructure and foundation, which reduces the horizontal stiffness of the system. It thereby increases the time period of the structure and decreases the spectral acceleration of the structure. The superstructure acts like a rigid body, thus inter storey drift is reduced. Such type of isolators are used in practice in India, yet a proper design procedure based on IS code is unavailable. The paper presents design procedure for LRB adopting the procedure of IS 1893:2002 (Part-1) for earthquake resistant design of buildings. Design charts have been developed and presented in this paper which gives isolator diameter and rubber thickness as design outputs. The design procedure requires different input parameters like fundamental period and damping of the fixed base structure, axial load on the column, seismic zone, type of soil and shore hardness of rubber. These design charts enable the designer to easily arrive at the isolator parameters to achieve seismic isolation. Using the charts, case study has been done using SAP2000. Building displacement and acceleration are compared for model with and without base isolator. Comparative study of linear and non-linear base isolators has also been carried out. Linear and non-linear time history analysis has been done using El Centro earthquake.

Effect of steel bracing on vertically irregular r.c.c building frames under s...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Earthquakes are one of the most life threatening, environmental hazardous and destructive natural phenomenons that causes
shaking of ground. This result in damage to the structures, hence we need to design the buildings to withstand these earthquakes
which may occur at least once in the life time of the structure. Structures possess less stiffness and strength in case of irregular
configured frames; to enhance this, lateral load resisting systems are introduced into the frames. In this study, G+5 storey
building model has been analyzed considering different types of vertical geometric irregularities and steel bracings using
pushover analysis with the help of ETABS 9.7 software. Addition of X type brace, V type Brace and Inverted V/K type brace shows
that use of X-type of bracing is found more suitable to enhance the performance of the irregular buildings.

Experimental studies on confined steel concrete composite beams under pure be...eSAT Journals
Abstract
An experimental investigation of the ultimate strength and behaviour of a new type of composite beam called CSCC beam (Confined Steel Concrete Composite Beam) is a concrete beam shuttered with cold formed steel sheet which acts as a composite beam by means of shear connectors and bracings. Stud shear connectors are used to take up the bond between sheet and concrete. The passive confinement by the cold formed sheet in the sides and bottom influences the strength and ductility of the system. These beams are provides very good confinement of concrete. Totally eight CSCC beams are tested and the entire behaviour of the beams are monitored to predict the physical response of the beams under three different types loading such as pure bending, pure torsion and combined bending and torsion. Two point loading was obtained for pure bending. The deformation criteria (deflection, moment and flexural rigidity) are also included in the investigation throughout the entire load history experimentally. The results obtained by the experimental values which are found to be in good agreement.

structure causes stiffness irregularity in a structure, due to this the structure undergoes unequal storey drifts, formation of the
plastic hinges and then finally resulting into the collapse of the structure.This research work purely interacts with the effect of the
soft storeys in the analysis of RC framed structures as entitled above, and in this work the soft storeys positions has been provided
at different levels as shown in the analytical modelling. All the models are analyzed by using the ETABS software. The seismic
analysis performed consists of the Equivalent static analysis (ESA), response spectrum analysis (RSA), and the push over analysis
(PA). The seismic base shear forces, storey drifts, and the displacements has been compared with the three analysis methods as
listed above. With the aid of the push over analysis the values of the ductility and the response reduction factor have been
obtained. Apart from these, the performance point parameters such as spectral acceleration(Sa) , spectral displacement (Sd),
Base shear(V) and the roof displacement(D) has been also illustrated in this work and a detailed information of several stages of

Seismic analysis of vertical irregular multistoried buildingeSAT Journals
Abstract It is understood that buildings which are regular in elevation (regular building) perform much better than those which have irregularity in elevation (irregular building) under seismic loading. Irregularities are not avoidable in construction of buildings. However a detailed study to understand structural behaviour of the buildings with irregularities under seismic loading is essential for appropriate design and their better performance. The main objective of this study is to understand the effect of elevation irregularity and behaviour of 3-D R.C. Building which is subjected to earthquake load. In the present study, a 5 bays X 5 bays, 16 storied structure with provision of lift core walls and each storey height 3.2 m, having irregularity in elevation, is considered as the soft storey 3-D structure. An Irregular building is assumed to be located in all zones. Linear dynamic analysis using Response Spectrum method of the irregular building is carried out using the standard and convenient FE software package. To quantify the effect of different degrees of irregularities all the structures are analysed. In addition, the analysis carried out also enables to understand the behaviour that takes place in irregular buildings in comparison to that in regular buildings. Abstract
From past earthquakes it is proved that many of structure are totally or partially damaged due to earthquake. So, it is necessary to determine seismic responses of such buildings. There are different techniques of seismic analysis of structure. Time history analysis is one of the important techniques for structural seismic analysis generally the evaluated structural response is non-linear in nature. For such type of analysis, a representative earthquake time history is required. In this project work seismic analysis of RCC buildings with mass irregularity at different floor level are carried out. Here for analysis different time histories have been used. This paper highlights the effect of mass irregularity on different floor in RCC buildings with time history and analysis is done by using ETABS software.

Performance of single layer steel barrel vault under bucklingeSAT Journals
Abstract Buckling is a critical state of stress and deformation, at which a slight disturbance causes a gross additional deformation, or perhaps a total structural failure of the part. Structural behavior of the part beyond 'buckling' is not evident from the normal arguments of static. Buckling failures do not depend on the strength of the material, but are a function of the component dimensions & modulus of elasticity. Therefore, materials with a high strength will buckle just as quickly as low strength ones. If a structure is subject to compressive loads, then a buckling analysis may be necessary. The study presented in this paper is intended to help designers of steel braced barrel vaults by identifying the significant differences in determining which configuration(s) would be best in different conditions of use. The study presented is of parametric type and covers several other important parameters like rise to span ratio, different boundary conditions, such that barrel vault acts as an arch, as a beam or as a shell, The buckling strength of a three different configuration of a double layer braced barrel vaults are presented in this paper for rise/span ratio varying from 0.2-0.7 and having four different types of boundary conditions. Through consideration of these parameters, the paper presents an assessment of the effect of the vault configuration on the overall buckling strength. Analysis of rc framed structures with central and partial openings in masonry...eSAT Journals
Abstract In Reinforced concrete frames the masonry infill walls are a common practice in countries like India, where the region is prone to seismic activity. In general, the masonry infill walls are treated as nonstructural element in structural analysis and only the contribution of its mass for is considered and it’s structural parameters like strength and stiffness is generally ignored in practice, such an approach may lead to an unsafe design. Infill walls resist lateral loads but because of the openings in the infill wall the resistance may slightly reduce. The IS code provisions do not provide guidelines for the analysis and design of RC frames with infill wall and for different percentage of openings. In this study, an office or residential building outer side central opening or outer side partial openings are used and analysis is carried for Bare Frame model, infill walls without opening, infill walls with outer periphery central opening and infill wall with outer periphery partial opening models. In ETABS software G+14 RC framed building models has been prepared, Equivalent Static Lateral force method, Response spectrum method has been performed for analysis as per IS 1893 : 2002 including p-delta effects. Storey displacement, Storey shear, Storey drift, with soft storey considering the effects of infill wall with central and partial openings are the parameters considered in this study. For modeling, the Equivalent diagonal strut method has been used to find out the width of Strut using FEMA 273 .The results for bare frame, infill wall, and infill wall with central and partial openings are discussed and conclusions are made. Seismic evaluation of rc frame with brick masonry infill wallseSAT Journals
Abstract
Infill panels are widely used as partition walls as well as external walls of the building to fill the gap between RC frames. Non-structural member may provide considerable stiffness to the building and hence may improve the performance of the RC building during ground motions. But In most of the cases, the ignorance of this property of masonry in designing of the RC frame may get an unsafe design. There are two methods are used to determine the effect of ground motion. The effect of ground motion on RC frame building has been carried out by considering with and without the stiffness of infill wall. A comparative study is carried out with RC building using Equivalent Lateral Force method and Response Spectrum method. The masonry infill has been modeled as an equivalent diagonal strut element using Hendry formula. Pushover analysis is carried out on bare frame and frame with infill wall. The model has been generated using STAAD Pro and results obtained from the analysis are compared in terms of strength and stiffness with bare frame.

Seismic performance assessment of the torsional effect in asymmetric structur...eSAT Journals
Abstract In the recent time we come across many structures which are irregular in shape, this type of cannot be avoided due to the functional and architectural requirements. These type of structures have irregular distribution of centre of mass and centre of rigidity which causes the torsional effect on the structures which is one of the most important factor influencing the seismic damage of the structure. Structures with asymmetric distribution of mass and rigidity undergoes torsional motions during earthquake. To assess the torsional effect on the structures in the present study four types of structures are considered with varying eccentricity subjected to Pushover Analysis and Non-Linear Time History Analysis. The performance of the structures are assessed as per the procedure prescribe in ATC-40 and FEMA-356. The analysis of the structural models is done in ETABS. The results have shown that the structures with less eccentricity and in the direction of the columns orientation are performing well, also ductility, drift, and lateral displacement depends on the eccentricity of the structures. Seismic pounding between adjacent rc buildings with and without base isolatio...eSAT Journals
Abstract Among the possible structural damages during an earthquake, the seismic induced pounding also has been one of the commonly observed phenomena. This is because the separation gap between many adjacent buildings is inadequate to accommodate the relative motions, so buildings vibrate out of phase and collides. Despite the fact that the seismic pounding between nearby structures is considered in the codal procurements, the act of development is still an issue in numerous metropolitan zones where the structures are built with no adequate partition separation which brings about their pounding. In this study E-Tabs nonlinear software is used for simulation of adjacent multi-storeyed RC frame buildings of G+14 and G+9 storey, the provisions that may reduce the effects of pounding like the separation distance, addition of shear walls, lateral bracings and variation in storey height of the buildings have been considered for analysis. And the responses like storey-displacement and pounding force by considering both fixed base and base-isolated conditions are arrived. Effect of fines on liquefaction using shake table testeSAT Journals

effects caused due to earthquake is liquefaction. This paper deals with experimental investigation of effects of fines content on
liquefaction behavior using shake table test. A test program consisted of total 19 tests conducted on saturated cohesionless sand
with varying amount of non-plastic silt. The behavior of such silty sand in the relative density range 30 to 60% has been studied
by subjecting the specimens to a specific acceleration of 0.54g. Effect of silt content and the relative density on generation of pore
pressure and thereby initiation of liquefaction has been studied. The results obtained from the present study showed that cyclic
stress ratio (CSR) values decrease with the increase in fines content for lower relative densities. Delay in development of pore
pressure is observed with the increasing fines content. This indicates that higher silt contents at higher densities offer better
resistance to liquefaction. Further, for lower densities and lesser silt contents liquefaction occurred at pore pressure ratio even
less than one. The trend observed for CSR and relative density is similar when compared with triaxial test reported in literature.
The points where liquefaction has occurred in the field, when checked in the present study, they lie in ‘YES’ zone of liquefaction.

A study on behaviour of outrigger system on high rise steel structure by vary...eSAT Journals
Abstract The outrigger system is one of the most efficient system used for high rise structures to resist lateral forces. In the present study an attempt has been made to study the static and dynamic behavior of the outrigger structural system on steel structure by reducing the depth of outrigger.5X5 bay 40 story 3D steel structures is modeled in ETABS v2013 software. Steel structure with central core and steel structure with outrigger structural system of varied depth of outrigger are compared. The depth of the outrigger is reduced to 2/3rd and 1/3rd of the story height along with the full story height. The depth of the belt-truss is equal to the height of the typical story and maintained same in all the structures. The key parameters discussed in this paper include lateral deflection and storey drift. From the analysis results it has been found that the comparative performance of outrigger with depth of full storey height and decreased depth shows minor difference in resistance towards lateral loads. Abstract
An experimental investigation of the ultimate strength and behaviour of a new type of composite beam called CSCC beam (Confined Steel Concrete Composite Beam) is a concrete beam shuttered with cold formed steel sheet which acts as a composite beam by means of shear connectors and bracings. Stud shear connectors are used to take up the bond between sheet and concrete. The passive confinement by the cold formed sheet in the sides and bottom influences the strength and ductility of the system. These beams are provides very good confinement of concrete. Totally eight CSCC beams are tested and the entire behaviour of the beams are monitored to predict the physical response of the beams under three different types loading such as pure bending, pure torsion and combined bending and torsion. Two point loading was obtained for pure bending. The deformation criteria (deflection, moment and flexural rigidity) are also included in the investigation throughout the entire load history experimentally. The results obtained by the experimental values which are found to be in good agreement.

plastic hinges and then finally resulting into the collapse of the structure.This research work purely interacts with the effect of the
soft storeys in the analysis of RC framed structures as entitled above, and in this work the soft storeys positions has been provided
at different levels as shown in the analytical modelling. All the models are analyzed by using the ETABS software. The seismic
analysis performed consists of the Equivalent static analysis (ESA), response spectrum analysis (RSA), and the push over analysis
(PA). The seismic base shear forces, storey drifts, and the displacements has been compared with the three analysis methods as
listed above. With the aid of the push over analysis the values of the ductility and the response reduction factor have been
obtained. Apart from these, the performance point parameters such as spectral acceleration(Sa) , spectral displacement (Sd),
Base shear(V) and the roof displacement(D) has been also illustrated in this work and a detailed information of several stages of

Seismic analysis of vertical irregular multistoried buildingeSAT Journals
Abstract It is understood that buildings which are regular in elevation (regular building) perform much better than those which have irregularity in elevation (irregular building) under seismic loading. Irregularities are not avoidable in construction of buildings. However a detailed study to understand structural behaviour of the buildings with irregularities under seismic loading is essential for appropriate design and their better performance. The main objective of this study is to understand the effect of elevation irregularity and behaviour of 3-D R.C. Building which is subjected to earthquake load. In the present study, a 5 bays X 5 bays, 16 storied structure with provision of lift core walls and each storey height 3.2 m, having irregularity in elevation, is considered as the soft storey 3-D structure. An Irregular building is assumed to be located in all zones. Linear dynamic analysis using Response Spectrum method of the irregular building is carried out using the standard and convenient FE software package. To quantify the effect of different degrees of irregularities all the structures are analysed. In addition, the analysis carried out also enables to understand the behaviour that takes place in irregular buildings in comparison to that in regular buildings. For this the behaviour parameters considered are 1) Maximum displacement 2) Base shear, 3) Time period. Key Words: asymmetric building, soft story, base shear, displacement, soft storey, time period.

Abstract
From past earthquakes it is proved that many of structure are totally or partially damaged due to earthquake. So, it is necessary to determine seismic responses of such buildings. There are different techniques of seismic analysis of structure. Time history analysis is one of the important techniques for structural seismic analysis generally the evaluated structural response is non-linear in nature. For such type of analysis, a representative earthquake time history is required. In this project work seismic analysis of RCC buildings with mass irregularity at different floor level are carried out. Here for analysis different time histories have been used. This paper highlights the effect of mass irregularity on different floor in RCC buildings with time history and analysis is done by using ETABS software.

Performance of single layer steel barrel vault under bucklingeSAT Journals
Abstract Buckling is a critical state of stress and deformation, at which a slight disturbance causes a gross additional deformation, or perhaps a total structural failure of the part. Structural behavior of the part beyond 'buckling' is not evident from the normal arguments of static. Buckling failures do not depend on the strength of the material, but are a function of the component dimensions & modulus of elasticity. Therefore, materials with a high strength will buckle just as quickly as low strength ones. If a structure is subject to compressive loads, then a buckling analysis may be necessary. The study presented in this paper is intended to help designers of steel braced barrel vaults by identifying the significant differences in determining which configuration(s) would be best in different conditions of use. The study presented is of parametric type and covers several other important parameters like rise to span ratio, different boundary conditions, such that barrel vault acts as an arch, as a beam or as a shell, The buckling strength of a three different configuration of a double layer braced barrel vaults are presented in this paper for rise/span ratio varying from 0.2-0.7 and having four different types of boundary conditions. Through consideration of these parameters, the paper presents an assessment of the effect of the vault configuration on the overall buckling strength. Analysis of rc framed structures with central and partial openings in masonry...eSAT Journals
Abstract In Reinforced concrete frames the masonry infill walls are a common practice in countries like India, where the region is prone to seismic activity. In general, the masonry infill walls are treated as nonstructural element in structural analysis and only the contribution of its mass for is considered and it’s structural parameters like strength and stiffness is generally ignored in practice, such an approach may lead to an unsafe design. Infill walls resist lateral loads but because of the openings in the infill wall the resistance may slightly reduce. The IS code provisions do not provide guidelines for the analysis and design of RC frames with infill wall and for different percentage of openings. In this study, an office or residential building outer side central opening or outer side partial openings are used and analysis is carried for Bare Frame model, infill walls without opening, infill walls with outer periphery central opening and infill wall with outer periphery partial opening models. In ETABS software G+14 RC framed building models has been prepared, Equivalent Static Lateral force method, Response spectrum method has been performed for analysis as per IS 1893 : 2002 including p-delta effects. Storey displacement, Storey shear, Storey drift, with soft storey considering the effects of infill wall with central and partial openings are the parameters considered in this study. For modeling, the Equivalent diagonal strut method has been used to find out the width of Strut using FEMA 273 .The results for bare frame, infill wall, and infill wall with central and partial openings are discussed and conclusions are made. Seismic evaluation of rc frame with brick masonry infill wallseSAT Journals
Abstract
Infill panels are widely used as partition walls as well as external walls of the building to fill the gap between RC frames. Non-structural member may provide considerable stiffness to the building and hence may improve the performance of the RC building during ground motions. But In most of the cases, the ignorance of this property of masonry in designing of the RC frame may get an unsafe design. There are two methods are used to determine the effect of ground motion. The effect of ground motion on RC frame building has been carried out by considering with and without the stiffness of infill wall. A comparative study is carried out with RC building using Equivalent Lateral Force method and Response Spectrum method. The masonry infill has been modeled as an equivalent diagonal strut element using Hendry formula. Pushover analysis is carried out on bare frame and frame with infill wall. The model has been generated using STAAD Pro and results obtained from the analysis are compared in terms of strength and stiffness with bare frame.

Seismic performance assessment of the torsional effect in asymmetric structur...eSAT Journals
Abstract In the recent time we come across many structures which are irregular in shape, this type of cannot be avoided due to the functional and architectural requirements. These type of structures have irregular distribution of centre of mass and centre of rigidity which causes the torsional effect on the structures which is one of the most important factor influencing the seismic damage of the structure. Structures with asymmetric distribution of mass and rigidity undergoes torsional motions during earthquake. To assess the torsional effect on the structures in the present study four types of structures are considered with varying eccentricity subjected to Pushover Analysis and Non-Linear Time History Analysis. The performance of the structures are assessed as per the procedure prescribe in ATC-40 and FEMA-356. The analysis of the structural models is done in ETABS. The results have shown that the structures with less eccentricity and in the direction of the columns orientation are performing well, also ductility, drift, and lateral displacement depends on the eccentricity of the structures. Seismic pounding between adjacent rc buildings with and without base isolatio...eSAT Journals
Abstract Among the possible structural damages during an earthquake, the seismic induced pounding also has been one of the commonly observed phenomena. This is because the separation gap between many adjacent buildings is inadequate to accommodate the relative motions, so buildings vibrate out of phase and collides. Despite the fact that the seismic pounding between nearby structures is considered in the codal procurements, the act of development is still an issue in numerous metropolitan zones where the structures are built with no adequate partition separation which brings about their pounding. In this study E-Tabs nonlinear software is used for simulation of adjacent multi-storeyed RC frame buildings of G+14 and G+9 storey, the provisions that may reduce the effects of pounding like the separation distance, addition of shear walls, lateral bracings and variation in storey height of the buildings have been considered for analysis. And the responses like storey-displacement and pounding force by considering both fixed base and base-isolated conditions are arrived. Effect of fines on liquefaction using shake table testeSAT Journals

effects caused due to earthquake is liquefaction. This paper deals with experimental investigation of effects of fines content on
liquefaction behavior using shake table test. A test program consisted of total 19 tests conducted on saturated cohesionless sand
with varying amount of non-plastic silt. The behavior of such silty sand in the relative density range 30 to 60% has been studied
by subjecting the specimens to a specific acceleration of 0.54g. Effect of silt content and the relative density on generation of pore
pressure and thereby initiation of liquefaction has been studied. The results obtained from the present study showed that cyclic
stress ratio (CSR) values decrease with the increase in fines content for lower relative densities. Delay in development of pore
pressure is observed with the increasing fines content. This indicates that higher silt contents at higher densities offer better
resistance to liquefaction. Further, for lower densities and lesser silt contents liquefaction occurred at pore pressure ratio even
less than one. The trend observed for CSR and relative density is similar when compared with triaxial test reported in literature.
The points where liquefaction has occurred in the field, when checked in the present study, they lie in ‘YES’ zone of liquefaction.

A study on behaviour of outrigger system on high rise steel structure by vary...eSAT Journals
Abstract The outrigger system is one of the most efficient system used for high rise structures to resist lateral forces. In the present study an attempt has been made to study the static and dynamic behavior of the outrigger structural system on steel structure by reducing the depth of outrigger.5X5 bay 40 story 3D steel structures is modeled in ETABS v2013 software. Steel structure with central core and steel structure with outrigger structural system of varied depth of outrigger are compared. The depth of the outrigger is reduced to 2/3rd and 1/3rd of the story height along with the full story height. The depth of the belt-truss is equal to the height of the typical story and maintained same in all the structures. The key parameters discussed in this paper include lateral deflection and storey drift. From the analysis results it has been found that the comparative performance of outrigger with depth of full storey height and decreased depth shows minor difference in resistance towards lateral loads. Abstract A seismic base isolation is an earthquake resistant design method that is based on reducing the seismic demand and also the ductility demand. The basic concept of base isolation system is to increase the natural time period of the fixed base building and to protect the structure from the seismic effect. The main purpose of this work is to study the dynamic response of structure when subjected to different isolators. For this purpose, a three dimensional response spectrum analysis and time history analysis is performed using a commercial structural analysis software package called as SAP 2000 to study the influence of isolation damping on building. The main objective is to make a comparison between the fixed base building and various isolation systems such as friction pendulum isolator, lead rubber bearing (LRB) isolator and high damping rubber isolator, subjected to strong earthquakes to achieve an optimal design of the base isolation system. SAP 2000, a popular large scale explicit finite element analysis software used to stimulate the behavior of base isolated structure. In the present work, it was found that base isolation substantially increases the time period of structure and hence correspondingly reduces the base shear. The top displacement for fixed and isolated cases conspicuously shows the reduction in the case of isolated frame. The study shows that the bending moment and shear force values are reduced for base isolated frame when compared to fixed base building. From design consideration the steel requirement is reduced in base isolated structures when compared to fixed base building. Key Words: Isolators, SAP2000

Abstract In India reinforced concrete structures are mostly used since this is the most convenient & economic system for low-rise buildings. However, for medium to high-rise buildings this type of structure is no longer economic because of increased dead load, less stiffness, span restriction and hazardous formwork. So the Structural engineers are facing the challenge of striving for the most efficient and economical design solution. Also Earthquake engineering should be extended to the design of earthquake sensitive tall buildings. Use of composite material is of particular interest, due to its significant potential in improving the overall performance through rather modest changes in manufacturing and constructional technologies. In India, many consulting engineers are reluctant to accept the use of composite steel-concrete structure because of its unfamiliarity and complexity in its analysis and design. But literature says that if properly configured, then composite steel-concrete system can provide extremely economical structural systems with high durability, rapid erection and superior seismic performance characteristics. This paper discusses Optimization of Earth quack response of tall building by using different types of framing system over the height of the building . So to optimize the earth quack response, a Ten story Combined model ( R.C.C, Composite and Steel frames) is developed and analyzed by using ETABS ; it proves that the combined model is better option. Abstract
Several studies proofs that the weaker columns has low seismic resistance, for this it is need to make the column stronger. The stronger columns can be obtained by many ways, here in this paper steel-concrete composite columns are considered. Use of composite columns in construction reduces the cross-section of the columns throughout the building and also increases the lateral-load resisting capacity to columns. The models consists of G+10, G+15, G+20 stories of Rectangular, L, T and plus shaped structures in which column spacing are varied as 3m, 4m, 5m and 6m along both directions in all structures. For all models the composite-column of size 450x450mm (ISMB 250) is kept constant, only the beam size has been varied accordingly while modeling a structure. The Response Spectrum analysis is done for all the buildings using ETABS version 15. Study is based on the performance of a multi-story building with plan irregularity under major earthquake forces by considering parameters like displacement, storey shear and drifts. Even though the cross section of the column considered is very small for tall buildings, the structure behaves stiff for severe seismic zone-V and also for different conditions; this is done by introducing steel-concrete composite column in a given building. Hence it is concluded that the use of composite columns in construction resists the lateral forces for many vulnerable conditions.

Abstract
Soft first storey is a typical feature in the modern multi-storey constructions in urban India. Social and functional need to provide parking space at ground level leads seismic vulnerability of such a building. The computer software usage in civil engineering has greatly reduced the complexities of different aspects in the analysis and design of projects. In the present study an attempt has been made to investigate the seismic behaviour of a multi-storey building with soft first storey. When subjected to seismic loads, it was observed that soft storey frames are less resistant when compared to infill frames.

Evaluation of the use of concentric steel bracing to improve seismic performa...eSAT Journals
Abstract Most of the existing RC frame structures were not designed to withstand seismic effect. To meet those criteria structures should be retrofitted and out of all available retrofitting techniques adding steel braces are considered to be most efficient technique to enhance the seismic performance of the RC frame structure. In the present study three types of buildings are considered i.e., (G+2), (G+5), (G+8) as low rise, medium rise, high rise respectively, and these buildings are assigned by four different types of braces namely X, V, Inverted V, Eccen Forward at the periphery bays of the building in three different pattern i.e., model A, model B and model C. And these buildings are analyzed by nonlinear pushover analysis by using SAP2000.It is observed that the hinges were first formed in beams and followed by columns in bare frame whereas hinges were first formed in braces and followed by columns and followed by beams in case of X, Eccen forward brace and in case of V and inverted V hinges are formed first in brace followed by beams and followed by columns. It is pointed out that RC frames which are assigned with inverted V brace has least shear force and bending moment in the beams when compared to the other brace frames and there is less amount of variations in axial force shear force and bending moment in case of column. Abstract To estimate the natural period of vibration, codes consign the empirical formula that solely relies on height of the structure. Present dissertation is carried out considering aspects such as building material, type of structure and structural dimensions. The foremost objective of the present systematic study has led to a simplified period-height equation for use in the seismic evaluation of reinforced concrete structures, taking due significance of the existence of stilt floors and shear walls. Current study also highlights the criteria that affects the period of vibration. The period of vibration which has been procured in this study represents the time period of first mode of vibration. This article comprises the seismic response of structures on different types of soil. The parameters considered for the given study are three different types of soil i.e., soft soil, medium soil and hard rock for high seismic zone and different building irregularities as per IS: 1893-2002 for 10, 15, 20 storey buildings. The analytical models for the modulus study are modeled through ETABS.V.9.2. Various parametric studies are carried out to determine the fundamental time period of the structures. These ameliorate formulas to determine the fundamental time period are developed using nonlinear regression analysis through ORIGIN pro software. The generalized equation finally obtained can be used in general form to calculate the time period of structures with open stilt floor and shear walls irrespective of soil types, seismic zone or building height. Abstract
Earthquake is a major concern in high seismic prone areas. The structure which lies in seismic zones are to be specially designed. The
goal of earthquake-resistant design is to construct structures that fare better during seismic activity than their conventional
counterparts. In this paper a study is conducted on the performance of a asymmetric structure, with plan irregularity, strength and
stiffness irregularities. The factors which influence the earthquake resistance in a structure are Shear wall, Strong column, Base
isolation, Brick infill and use of dampers. Out of above parameters, some of the above parameters are considered for the current
study, like Shear wall, Strong column, Brick infill. A time history analysis is performed using SAP 2000 software, a comparative
discussion is made on the response of structure between normal building and building which is designed for earthquake resistant. The
results showed that it was important to select a suitable parameter, for the type of resistance that the building must offer. This
parametric study clears the importance of each earthquake resistance factors.

1. INTRODUCTON
There are many earth quake resistant factors which can be
considered while designing a structure. Some of the factors are
Strong column, weak beam, Shear wall, Base isolation. The
behaviors of each of these factors are unique. The
performance of a structure for these factors can be studied
analytically and experimentally. Behavior of a simple
structure for these factors will give a good vision about the
importance of these factors. This paper will give a brief idea
about Strong column, Shear wall and Brick infill placed in a
simple structure (Fig: 1.1)
2. ANALYSIS
The building configuration is simple G+3 floors and staircase
is assumed to be placed separate. All the columns are assumed
as fixed in its base. It is a residential building, live load is
taken from IS 875 (Part 2). Analysis is made in SAP 2000
software. The analytical model of the structure is shown in fig
2.2. Time history of Buij(26th Jan 2001) is used for dynamic
analysis. Fig 2.1 shows the structure model of all types
compared. The first model Fig 2.2a shows Normal structure
and referred to as N. This normal structure has a beam size of
230mm X 450mm and column 230mm X 300mm. Fig 2.2b
shows the structure with strong column, and referred as ST.
The sizes of ST are for beam 230mm X 450mm and column
300mm X 500mm. The third is presented in Fig. 2.2c is
denoted by SW, which represents shear wall structure. Size of
shear wall is 100mm thick and 1000mm width, beams of
230mm X 450mm & column 230mm X 300mm. The last
model is a Brick infill model, for this the structure is covered
with the masonry 230mm brick infill and represented by BI.

In the first 3 models, input is given in SAP 2000. But for the
4th model, brick infills are modeled as equivalent diagonal
strut model. In fig 2.3, the thickness of strut is given. By

3. RESULTS AND COMPARISION
Outputs are tabulated and compared for maximum magnitude
of response for time history in „x‟ and „y‟ axis . Comparative
graphs are also shown, from which the behavior of each
structure is clearly seen.
3.1 Comparison of Base Shear
Base shear, is an estimate of the maximum expected lateral
force that will occur due to seismic ground motion at the base
of a structure. Table 3.1, shows the comparison of base shear
of the three models in maximum time history in „x‟ axis. From
the table 3.1 and graph (fig 3.1), the base shear of ST is
greater than N. In first mode ST takes 6.77% more shear than
N. SW resists 5.27 % less than ST and 1.14% more than N. BI
takes 6.17% less than SW, 12.11% less than SW and 7.23%
less than N.

3.2 Comparison of Joint Displacement
Displacement is studied in joint 57 (Joint at roof level). Roof
level joint will give maximum displacement due to its
cantilever action. Table 3.2, shows the displacement
comparison between time history modes. When the structure is
flexible, then it undergoes many displacements. Comparison
shows N must be flexible then ST, SW & BI.

3.3 Comparison of Floor Displacement
While seeing the floor displacement, N undergoes more
displacement, when compared to ST, SW &BI. Due to the
brick infill, the floor displacement is less in roof level.

3.4 Comparison of Time Period
Time period is decreasing, when the mass of the structure gets
increased. That can be seen by the table 3.4. But while
comparing BI, the time period for 1st mode is more than other
models & less in the other 3 modes.

4. CONCLUSIONS
In this paper comparison of Normal structure with Strong
column, Shear wall and Brick infill structures for same
configuration is carried out. From this study it is clear that as
the stiffness of building increases due to inclusion of Strong
column, Shear wall and Brick infill, the maximum base shear
force increases while story displacement decreases. Also the
fundamental time period of the structure decreases in Strong
column, Shear wall and Brick infill as compare to Normal
structure. Though Strong column, Shear wall are good while
compared to normal structure, Brick infill structure undergoes
less displacement and more time period than those ST & SW
models. Therefore it is recommended to go for brick infill in a
simple structure.
