The students created an "edible cell" to learn about cell structures. They used various foods like cake, icing, candies, and snacks to represent different organelles and parts of the cell. Each student explained which food they used to represent a cell component and why. They chose items based on similarities in shape, function or appearance to teach about the cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, ribosomes, centrioles, cell membrane, mitochondria, vesicles, vacuole, Golgi apparatus, nucleus, nucleolus, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, and nuclear membrane.
