1. Students created edible models of cell organelles using items like fruit, candy, and frosting. 2. The ribosomes were represented by Nerds because they are small and spherical, matching the function of ribosomes in protein manufacture. 3. The nucleus was a cut apple to show the nucleolus and nuclear membrane, with the skin representing the outer nuclear membrane.

2. Nucleus
The Nucleus of our cell is represented by an apple. We chose this because it could be cut
in a way to show the nucleolus and the outside of the nuclear membrane, the skin of the

The cell membrane is represented by the licorice. We chose this because it could bend to
fit the plate. The cell membrane lets material in and out of the cell.

4. The Golgi apparatus is an organelle found in eukaryotic cells. The Golgi apparatus
packages proteins and before sending them to their destination. For the Golgi
apparatus we used a fruit roll up because it can fold up like a Golgi apparatus.

For the mitochondria we used licorice and starburst. The mitochondria produces energy for the

The rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum are represented by fruit by the

Lysosomes are the cells waste and digestive system. For the lysosomes we used
licorice as the outer edge and m&ms in the middle. We used m&ms for the middle
because it was the best fit for the lysosome.

For the cytoskeleton we put marks in the cytoplasm. The cytoskeleton gives the cell is
structure and supports the cell.
