HOW WATER CREDIT IS MAKING AN
IMPACT
CHARITY:WATER –WATER AS A CATALYST
 Charity: Water focuses on life’s most
basic need – Water.
 But to significantly cut down disease
rates in the developing world, water is
just the first step.
 Wherever charity: water builds a
freshwater well, sanitation training is
also required.
 Simple hand washing stations made
with readily available materials is
promoted in some communities.
 A non-profit research organization with headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka
 IWMI enjoys greater national and international visibility, as water is high on the world
development agenda.

INTERNATIONAL WASTE MANAGEMENT
INSTITUTE (IWMI)
INITIATIVES
 IWMI launched the CGIAR Research Program onWater, Land and Ecosystems in
early 2012

an influence on peoples' livelihoods
 ResearchThemes -
 Revitalized Irrigation Systems
 Sustainable Agricultural Water Management
 Ecosystem Services

HOW CAN WE DO BETTER
IDENTIFYING GAP AREAS
 Lack of technological innovation and R&D in
water conservation
 Inefficient Government policies
 Lack of sustainable models- Lake Nicaragua
