Orthographic projection is a method used in engineering to produce technical drawings from which components are made. There are two main types: first angle and third angle projection. In first angle projection, commonly used in Europe, the object is placed in the first angle formed by vertical and horizontal planes. In third angle projection, used in the US, the object is placed in the third angle. Orthographic projections use multiple views, such as front, top, and side views, projected onto orthogonal planes to depict a three-dimensional object in two dimensions. Standard symbols are used to indicate first or third angle projection.
