This document describes online connected learning communities (CLCs) that allow educators to reflect, share, co-create, and learn from each other globally. It discusses three main types of CLCs: 1) Local professional learning communities (PLCs) that are purposeful face-to-face groups; 2) Global personal learning networks (PLNs) comprising individually chosen online connections; and 3) Bounded communities of practice or inquiry (CoPs) that are committed global groups with overlapping interests. Each CLC type has a different method, purpose, and structure to support educators' professional development needs in this new era of connected learning.
