The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in
literature provided in depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave
Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes
(middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman
and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth century
France.
The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite.
It states Madame Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont l Г‰vГ«que for
half a century (2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the
reader wonder why was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another
woman. What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put

have on the body. McArdle s disease is a metabolic disease that affects skeletal muscle because of

For many, a life changing moment comes in the form of a tragedy or a hard earned revelation.
Mine came in the form of a five year old girl named Sofia. Sofia spent most of her time in the
oncology ward of the hospital where I volunteered. Her days consisted of sterile hospital rooms,
scans, and chemotherapy. She was losing her hair because of chemo when most girls her age
were learning how to braid theirs. She played with a doll (Mr. Buttons) in her hospital room
instead of playing with other children. Sofia wasn t lonely in the traditional sense. Family,
friends, and even strangers visited the little girl, but could barely interact with her. Most of the
time, she was too tired to play and, when she finally mustered the energy, she found herself
behind a glass panel. The doctors thought it best to keep Sofia isolated, to minimize her chances
of falling ill in her already feeble condition. And, indeed, this is how I interacted with Sofia for a
month. Week after week, hour after hour, I d go to the glass wall to see if she had awoken and

The Penalties and Sentencing Act (Qld) 1992, has also been applied in regards to the final
sentencing punishment of the defendants of the following cases.
The Supreme Court case, R v Murray[4], states that the appellant pleaded not guilty to one charge
of murder where the appellant was found guilty of manslaughter where, although the appellant
intended to kill the deceased, he was only criminally responsible for manslaughter because of
provocation under section 304[5] where the appellant was sentenced to nine years imprisonment
under section 161B[6] where there was a declaration that the applicant had been convicted of a
serious violence offence. Where the case R v McDougall and Collas[7] was applied as a precedent
to the final decision of the case.
The Supreme Court case, R v Vollmer[8], states that the appellant was convicted of murdering
his de facto partner where evidence as to the deceased s past violent history in a previous
relationship was available at the time of trial but not relied on by defence counsel where there was
no evidence led at trial or on appeal of a history of violence between the appellant and the deceased
where the appellant sought to rely on the defences of self defence and provocation at trial under
sections 271(2), 304 and 668E(1)[9]. Where the cases R v Hajistassi[10], R v Mogg[11] and Re
Knowles[12] were applied as precedent to the final decision of the case.

The Berlin Wall And The Cold War Essay
Perhaps the most visual reference to the Cold War was the Berlin Wall. Although this wall only
existed to divide Berlin into two sides, it became a physical representation of the Cold war for
many and its fall in 1989 has been regarded to many as the end of the Cold War.
I have always been interested in the background history behind the Berlin Wall. Since I started
school in the 80s and was in High School while the Cold Warwas winding down, I don t have a
great personal understanding of many of the events leading up to the Cold War, other than from
history classes and watching movies in school about it. I remember watching the movie Night
Crossing in middle school when we were studying about the Berlin Wall.
When I started looking for topics a few weeks ago I wanted to learn more about the Berlin Wall. I
have since realized that to study the history of the Berlin Wall in one semester is something that
would only allow me to skim through various sources and information, there is simply too much
information to learn and so much of it available that I have chosen to focus my research so far on
the Fall of the Berlin wall. The events of the mid to late 80s that changed the political atmosphere
enough to bring the wall down.
There are numerous Primary Sources available for this study, some I have looked at already are
the 1987 Reagan speech at the Brandenburg gate in Berlin, from which the famous Mr. Gorbachev,
