History Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "History Essays" presents a unique set of challenges that can test
the mettle of any writer. First and foremost, delving into historical subjects requires extensive
research to ensure accuracy and depth of content. Navigating through a myriad of historical
events, figures, and contexts demands a meticulous approach to gather relevant information and
present a comprehensive narrative.
Crafting a compelling history essay involves more than just listing facts and dates. It requires the
ability to synthesize information, draw connections between events, and analyze the significance
of historical occurrences. This process demands a keen analytical mind and the capacity to
critically evaluate multiple perspectives on a given topic.
Moreover, a successful history essay should be more than a mere recollection of facts; it should
tell a story. The challenge lies in weaving a cohesive and engaging narrative that captures the
reader's attention while maintaining academic rigor. Striking the right balance between narrative
flair and scholarly precision is an intricate dance that requires a deep understanding of the subject
matter.
Additionally, historical essays often require the writer to adopt a specific writing style or adhere
to a particular citation format, such as MLA, APA, or Chicago style. Ensuring proper citation
and referencing adds another layer of complexity to the writing process.
Furthermore, addressing potential counterarguments and incorporating opposing viewpoints
enhances the credibility of the essay. This entails anticipating and responding to potential
criticisms, which demands a nuanced understanding of historical debates and controversies.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the broad topic of "History Essays" is no small feat. It
involves rigorous research, analytical thinking, narrative skill, adherence to specific writing
styles, and the ability to navigate through the complexities of historical discourse. It is a task that
challenges not only one's writing ability but also the depth of one's historical knowledge.
For those who may find this task overwhelming, there are alternative solutions. Similar essays

What Is The Diction In The Call Of The Wild
Call Of The Wild
In the classic, Call Of The Wild, by Jack London, Buck, a southland dog from
California, is sold off to gold seekers during the Alaskan Gold Rush. He is thrust
into the brutal and unforgiving life of a sled dog and is vilely treated. Buck then
must adapt to the harsh life he has been placed into by learning to fight and survive
in order to prosper. Years after he was drafted into the gold rush, he is rescued from
his suffering by a man named John Thornton. While bonding with John, Buck is also
growing closer to nature. When Buck was out exploring, John s camp was attacked
by indians, and he is killed. Buck then decides to return to the wild and live like his
ancestors. The author is highly intentional of the diction used in ... Show more content

This first theft marked Buck as fit to survive in the hostile Northland environment.
It marked his adaptability, and his capacity to adjust himself to changing
conditions, the lack of which would have meant swift and terrible death. It marked,
further, the decay or going to pieces of his moral nature, a vain thing and a
handicap in the ruthless struggle for existence. It was all well enough in the
Southland, under the law of love and fellowship, to respect private property and
personal feelings; but in the Northland, under the law of club and fang, whoso took
such things into account was a fool, and in so far he observed them he would fail to
prosper (London 13). The tone transitions from a happy to serious and cruel tone
through diction by changing the author s view of the
Antibiotic Resistance Is A Growing Problem Throughout
The...
Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem throughout the globe. Besides using
antibiotics for medical use, they are being used in the agriculture industry. In animals,
antibiotics are being used to treat diseases, but also to prevent diseases from
occurring and to increase the growth of animals (Mehndiratta, 2014, p.340). In recent
years, the evidence of farmers using antibiotics for non traditional ways has sparked
major controversy. In agriculture 90% of antibiotics are used for growth promoting
and prophylactic agents with the other 10% being used to treat diseases
(Khachatourians, 1998, p.2). To understand why this occurs, we first must understand
the genetic basis for antibiotic resistanceand the occurrence of antibiotic resistance in
selected organisms. By farmers doing this an increase in the number and types of
microorganisms resistant to drugs, has increased public health problems. Finally,
management options for reducing antibiotics in the environment have to occur. If
farmers continue to use antibiotics for non traditional uses, as humans we can be
affected greatly not just by food supply, but by water runoff, the air, and even the
soil. Also, more public health problems will occur.
However, to completely understand the effects of antibiotic resistance, we need to
understand the genetic component of how bacteria becomes resistant. An antibiotic
can operate at different sites within the bacterial cell, some infect the cell wall or the
membranes, making it
Analysis Of The Movie The Manchurian Candidate
On the surface, the movie The Manchurian Candidate presents a parallel universe
inspired by the paranoid right wing illusions of people who believed in the Red
Scare. The film itself crosses over into several different dramas: war film, political
satire, paranoid science fiction, black comedy, suspenseful intrigue, and horror. The
notion that the Russian and Chinese Communists were working together to take over
the U.S. by infiltrating them was a common idea. Because of the communist
brainwashing when captured, Raymond Shaw s lack of agency allows him to be
controlled by outside influences in order to infiltrate the United States. The paranoia
and fear of losing control to the communists during the Red Scare is paralleled in the
film to a fear of the power that women had over men. The relationship that Raymond
Shaw has with the women in his life is in complete opposition of the normal
relationships men had with women during the Cold War. This opposition is analogous
throughout the entire movie, especially in the dream sequence and in relation to
Eleanor Shaw. Distorted representations of both men and women, which are not of
the customary gender roles during this time, contribute to the formation of a pubic
spectacle.
The relationship between Eleanor and Raymond Shaw is not detailed in the movie,
however her explicit control over him is evident. The Jocasta complex presented in
the novel creates a conflict for the remainder of Raymond s life. His mother controls

Letter From Birmingham Jail By Dr. King
The use of just laws was first abided by Dr. King in his Letter From Birmingham
Jail. In this letter, he mentions the necessity of just laws in society and how
individuals are morally obliged to follow them. He also makes a clear distinction
between just and unjust laws, further advocating his beliefs. Dr. King defines the
two different laws in his interpretation of what they actually mean in society. A just
law is a human made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. In
other words, a law that can uplift the personality of an individual is a law that is just.
Also, citizens also have their moral responsibility in a constitutional democratic
society to obey and abide by the laws of the country. In comparison to just... Show

It negatively affects individuals beliefs and stands on their religious point of view,
further making this unjust law. According to the Huffington posts, five things the
Anti Sharia movement gets dangerously wrong, Spreading false information about
Sharia has negative consequences for American Muslims. This quote further
proves this law to be unlawful and unjust to the thousands of Muslims, who
practice their religion in fear, who continue to live in America today. In an article
by Global Citizens called 10 Ridiculously Sexist Laws in the 21st Century it
explains the unethical law from Yemen in 1992 that states a wife must permit [her
husband] to have legitimate intercourse with her when she is fit to do so . Women
are often forced into marriage by their pre teenage years, 14% are married before
15 Young women don t have a choice against the actions of their husbands when it
comes to intercourse simply because it is determined if the women is fit enough .
This often leads to non consensual sex which by law doesn t count as rape in
Yemen. I feel that this is an unjust and preposterous law that makes women feel as
though they re obligated to please a man as an he sees fit to them. They aren t
allowed to have a say to when they are ready for intercourse and they don t have the
government to protect them either while marital rape isn t pressed on enough. The
The film †There Will Be Blood’ by Thomas
Anderson
The film There Will Be Blood by Thomas Anderson is very complex and a movie
that makes you think. In the beginning it was very confusing because you have to
follow along with the characters without words being said. Also, because of all the
possible disorders that can be developing in the characters of the movie. It is most
recognized by the main character Daniel Plainview and all the possible
perspectives of interpretations (Analysis 0:20) this movie has. As I was watching
this movie, this would be more of a family study as its most important theme.
(Analysis 0:36) This is because it seems that Daniel is the father to all the
characters and then they are in the end related to him in some way. I believe that all
the characters in the movie that were introduced were there to affect Daniel in some
way, be a contrast to him, or be a reflection of him.
Daniel Plainview is a man who has severe trust issues and is very troubled, but he
wants to have a family. His characteristics are so heavily shown though the movie
that they end up being his major flaws in the movie. These flaws are the things that
end up destroying his connections to his family in every aspect. Anything that was
thrown at him in the movie, did not impact him enough to change who he really was.
For example, his son going deaf from the oil well explosion, which was an explosion
that sent H.W flying and ultimately hitting his head on the hard roof of the shack. All
of this happened because Daniel did not
The Facts About Methamphetamine Essay
Meth, not even once is a popular phrase that is associated with this drug. This drug
has many known horrible effects associated with it, plus many effects more I am sure
are going to be discovered over time. I am intending to cover the history, effects, the
different categories of meth abuse, and the withdrawal effects of Methamphetaminein
this paper, and what to do if you suspect someone you know is using meth.
Methamphetamine is an extremely dangerous drug that is included in the same drug
class as other drugs like Cocaine. It s most common street names include; ice, glass,
crank, and meth. Meth starts off as a stimulant, but turns into a drug that will destroy
your body. Meth addiction is one of the hardest addictions to treat, ... Show more

Short term effects of meth include; loss of appetite, increased heart rate, blood
pressure, and body temperature. Other short term effects include; dilation of pupils,
disturbed sleep patterns, nausea, panic and psychosis, hallucinations,
hyperexcitability, irritability, and bizarre, sometimes erratic behavior. Long term
effects of meth are; Permanent damage to blood vessels of heart and brain, high
blood pressure leading to heart attacks, strokes, and death, liver, kidney, and lung
damage. If this drug is sniffed it will lead to the destruction of the tissues in the
nose. If this drug in smoked it will result in respiratory problems. If this drug is
injected it will lead to infectious diseases, and abscesses. Other long term effects are;
malnutrition, weight loss, severe tooth decay, disentoritation, apathy, confused
exhaustion, strong psychological dependence, psychosis, depression, and damage to
the brain will be done that is similar to alzheimer s diseases, stroke, and epilepsy.
(Short Term Long Term Deadly Effects)
Meth abuse has been characterized into three different stages, low intensity meth
abuse, binge meth abuse, and high intensity meth abuse. Low intensity meth abuse
consists of meth users who snort or swallow Methamphetamine. These types of meth
users are usually using meth as an appetite suppressant to lose weight, or are using
meth because they want or need to stay awake long enough to finish a task at hand.
Binge meth abuse are users who
Critical Review Of Ovid s Aeneid And Aeneid
Critical Review of Ovid s and Virgil s Aeneid
The tale of the Aeneid tells the story of Aeneas and how he founds the Roman people.
The most well known version of this story is Virgil s Aeneid. The traditional
interpretation of Virgil s depiction of the hero and the myth is that it was used as
propaganda for the new imperial system that the emperor Augustus had introduced. In
contrast with this is the Harvard School interpretation, which states that Virgils
Aeneid is actually undermining the Imperial system. Despite there being some
evidence for this, Virgil s illustration best fits under the traditional interpretation. In
contrast with this is Ovid s Little Aeneid found in his Metamorphoses. This essay will
analyse these illustrations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Virgil s portrayal of Aeneascan arguably be based off of Augustus. His
characterisation and values he is shown to possess demonstrate that of an ideal
Roman citizen; the value most referenced and recognisable in the text is his piety.
This refers to his religiousness and his ability to put duty before his own wants and
needs. An example of this is him leaving Dido (Virgil Aen, 4.393 394). This
abandoning of Dido, although tragic, shows his pietas to the will of the gods, his
followers and to his son Iulus. Although a modern view of this part of the story
suggests Virgil is pitying Dido and the Carthaginians and presenting Aeneas as cold
and unsympathetic, to the Romans of the time Aeneas is performing his duty to the
future state. Also, the Roman s prized moderation and self control therefore Dido s
reaction to Aeneas leaving would be seen as excessive and over dramatic which
would reinforce the idea of non Romans being barbarians and also demonstrates
Virgil s propagandistic intentions. Virgil successfully uses the Dido affair to
strengthen and develop this idea of piety.
Ovid s treatment of Dido and Aeneas is in stark contrast with Virgil s. Where as
Virgil has used it as a device to showcase Aeneas leadership and pietas to his people
and gods, Ovid mentions it in passing while rushing through to other individual s
stories (Ovid, Met. 14.75). The two narratives of the story are very distinctive; Virgil
Every citizen can get involved in politics.
Every citizen can get involved in politics. People are needed to serve at the local,
regional, and national level. Many people think that people can only get involved at a
regional and national level since when one thinks of politics they think of the
president, the House of Representatives, U.S. Governors etc. Politicsare not only
regional and nationally, politics are locally as well. It is not only adults who can
become involved in politics; young citizens like teenagers can become involved in
politics too! Good dedicated leaders are needed at all levels, local, regional and
national.

If a debate team is offered at school they should take advantage of it. This simple
action will give the young citizen the opportunity to become involved in politics
locally. Other ways a young citizen can become involved in politics is to attend
school board meetings, as well as town or city hall meetings. At these meetings you
will be able to find out about the needs and issues of the town, as well as the
political happenings. The local newspaper gives one the opportunity to learn where
and when all these meetings are held.
An organization that is politically active is 4 H. This organization holds state wide
meetings where members of their team get together to discuss the needs and issues
of the organization. 4 H dedicates itself to many different things. The focus that I
acknowledge in 4 H is the branch Youth Advocates for Health. This branch of 4 H
dedicates itself to promote healthy life styles to children.
To reach their goals this organization holds weekly meetings where the officers of
the organization and the members attend. The team of officers is made up of the
president, the vice president, the secretary and the treasurer. In these meetings the
team discusses ways that they could use to promote healthy life styles to children.
They also discuss ways that they can engage children in physical activities such as
playing games, dancing etc. They meet every week in
Kotter s Eight Steps Essay
The Kotter s eight steps are essential elements because it provides a clear vision and
communicates about organization change. The eights steps are establish the need for
urgency, make sure there is a robust change, develop a vision, demonstrates the
vision, empower staff, ensure there is short term wins, consolidates gains and embed
the changein the culture (Palmer, et. al, 2009, 225). The critical steps for sustaining
change are establish the need for urgency because it is crucial to find the problem;
by performing an investigation to find new opportunities. (Palmer et. al, 2009). Also,
creating a vision helps direct the progress by motivating and inspire employees to
see where the organization is heading. Also, using every channel of communication
is necessary for sustaining change because it s leading by example and teaching new
behavior and organization culture. Finally, rewarding employees will benefit
everyone in the group because it makes them feel appreciate and valuable employees

Also, they don t prioritize the necessary modifications causing confusion and negative
reactions of employees. Some leaders don t realize how it will affect their employees
and begin to lose them. According to Jacobsen, merging companies can influence the
companies due to different cultures and not adapting to the changes, In summary,
Implementing changes take time to make all the following steps and providing the
necessary training.

Hitler s Second World War II
September 1, 1939: Silence in Europe is brought to an abrupt end! German forces
storm the Polish borders, and break the Non Aggression Pact laid forth over five
years before (EyeWitness). The Fuhrer spoke of the Poles breaking down the peace
talks, and of the atrocities committed upon the Germanic people by them (Hitler,
Adolf), but these highly exaggerated claims veiled Hitler s true intentions: Though
Hitler s primary goal was the conquering of Europe, hindsight shows that the
removal of groups of people he disliked or thought of as lesser were included in his
plans from the start. Two days later, on September 3rd, Great Britain and France
declared war on Germany: This was it, the Second World War had begun

It has been my observation that the Germanic peoples have always had an affinity
for battle and glory. Hitler plays into this with his constant use of propaganda,
inspiring the German people to fight for honor, bravery, glory and all such related
terms. Finally he concludes his short speech with a bout of Nationalism: Long live
our people and our Reich! (Hitler, Adolf)
My next source is the Diary from the Years of Occupation 1939 1944, by Dr.
Zygmunt Klukowski a Polish chief physician of a small hospital south of Lublin,
Poland. His first entry is on October 11, after the Germans have settled in: he starts
by stating the Germans are trying to clean up the city, but then details that they re
using the Jews as laborers for it. Jews must sweep the streets, clean all the public
latrines, and fill all the street trenches. (Klukowski) He continues on to say that
they must de arm and finally adds that there is a police curfew in effect. Finally he
surmises that it seems most of the orders are aimed at the Jews. (Klukowski)
Another entry states that the Germans have been executing mentally ill patients
from the nearby hospitals. It is so hard to believe anything as terrible as this.
(Klukowski) October 21, 1942, he witnesses the beginning of the so called German
displacement of the Jews (Klukowski) Here Klukowski speaks of the indescribable
atrocities he witnesses and hears. The Jews were all either rounded up and brought to

In Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants, one of the main characters asks
the other That s all we do isn t it look at things and try new drinks? (Hemingway

that this was their lives. At any point in the story they are essentially doing nothing
but looking at things and trying new drinks. Critics are right to say that the novel
presents motion that goes nowhere and that it is a novel of stasis and despair. The
characters in The Sun Also Risesoften go to new places, such as new bars with
friends, or even to foreign countries, but they never seem to do anything new. The
only thing that changes about their lives is the setting. Even when Jake was with...

Brett is the most obvious example of this, when she is in the cab at the beginning
of the novel and says to Jake, Oh, darling, I ve been so miserable (32). No matter
what she does she never seems truly happy. She can get distracted from her
sadness, but she does not escape it. This is shown when she is at the club with
Jake and the Count, and she says It s all gone... I don t know, I just feel terribly
(70). Brett goes out and parties and drinks with the thought that it could make her
happy, but she still feels awful. And she makes the people around her feel bad as
well. For example, Cohn, despite being a boxer, was never one to fight people, but
after he had an affair with Brett, he got into a fight with Jake, Mike, and Pedro.
When he realizes what he has done he is ashamed of himself, saying, Please don t
remember it. I was crazy (197). He even asks all the people he hurt to shake hands
afterward, as sort of a repentance. Cohn is obviously in despair, partly because he
was in love with Brett and losing her to all these other men, but also because he
knows that his jealousy is turning him into something he is

the highest possible clarity and color accuracy (New Pioneer Blu ray). In 2012,
Panasonic released a new line of Blu ray players. These devices use Adaptive

Panasonic s Blu ray players contain a DVD Super Resolution Processer. The

These religious traditions, which have become normalcies, regardless of legislation to
raise the minimum age for marriage to eighteen, CEFM is still widely practiced. This
presents an uphill battle that requires a multi sector approach to address not only
religious aspects, but also financial and economic factors that may limit the poorest of
women from attaining the healthcare required to treat the harmful consequences of
adolescent pregnancy. This puts women at even greater risk for maternal mortality,
and post natal mortality.
Many successful interventions and sustainable strategies have been proven useful
in shifting perspectives both in respects to gender inequality and access to
essential resources, which all have an affect on reducing rates of CEFM across the
globe. In Morocco, the King has already taken initiative toward passing laws
raising the minimum marriage age from fifteen to eighteen, for women, in Article

2004 (Zvan Elliot, 2009). This is one example of how the government s role has
supported the multi sector approach.
Since the multi sector system brings together outside global NGO s, inter agencies,
government, and ministries of health and justice, adolescent married girls and women

Super Power Involvement in the Middle East
The superpowers, namely the USSR and US were in engaged in a war by proxy,
which is very easy to identify if you analyze the conflicts in the Middle East from
1948 until, and including, the Yom Kippur War of 1978. The superpowers would
employ tactics such as supplying their various allies in the Middle East with
weapons and finances which would afford them the ability to engage in the many
conflicts that took place in that period such as the Suez Crisis, Six Day War and the
Yom Kippur War. All of this was done without either superpower s putting their own
men on the ground to fight, for fear of an all out war between each other. However
much the superpowers might have fuelled the conflicts with supplying the Arabs and
Israelis with weapons and finances, they were not the cause for the conflicts as they
are much deeper rooted. Israeland the Arab states have always seen tension as per
their culture and religious differences, and the growing nationalism of the Arab states
and Zionism in Israel, which amounted to extreme actions such as the three major
conflicts during the time period 1956 1978.
Superpower involvement in the Middle East saw its first significant impact in 1956
when the Suez Crisis took place thus giving us the first hints of the war by proxy that
the superpowers were fighting between each other. When President Nasser took over
leadership of Egypt in 1956 he began signing arms deals with Czechoslovakia which
at the time was a puppet state if the USSR.

his neighbor is not at fault for obeying state laws and paying taxes, and their choice
to believe in it.
Essay About My New Years
That New Years was the most rough, fun, exciting and painful New Years I have
experienced in my 14 years of life. The people who were present were Lorrissa, her
older sister Leena, Megan E. , Jadynn and of course me. We were spending that
New Year s at Lorrissas hoping for a fun night. That night was mostly fun but at
times it was... dramatic to say the least. I arrived after Jadynn but before Megan, we
decided we would wait until Megan got here to start doing the interesting things.
When Megan did get there we got on our snow gear and tied a light green long sledto
the black four wheeler. Lorrissa drove us around first, it was also my first time doing
that so as anyone would expect I would have fell off multifarious times but still

except for Lorrissas laugh that would come up after maybe 2 minutes of silence.
When we woke up Megan left around eight in the morning and Jadynn came back
and we went out for more sledding. The worst part was when it was just Leena and I,
we were on the side of the road and there was a mailbox coming up. I did not hear
Lorrissa holler back at Leena and I to duck down, but Leena did. I ended up smashing
the back of my head into the mailbox, I was in too much of a shock to cry. I had

percent increase since the homeless count in 2013 (Halstead). These numbers are
only expected to go up in the coming years, as long the problem of not enough room
in shelters exist.
In addition to the individual homeless population growing, the streets of Marin will
see another consequence that the county faces due to this problem. The community
will see a significant increase in the number of homeless families. Marin now more
than before is seeing more families living on the streets. According to Marin county,
as of January 29, 2015 there was a total of 1,309 homeless people. That is a 38%
increase since January 2013. However, that count does not account for those
homeless who find alternative shelters, such as, cars, and under passes. Another study
revealed that 15% of the overall homeless population are families with children. 35%
of those surveyed for the 2015 count said that this was their first time experiencing
homelessness. 51% said that they had been homeless for a year or more (Marin
County Census). With these alarming statistics, it has become quite clear what the
impact of lack of shelter spaces in Marin County has done a significant amount of
damage to the community.
Home values will decrease as the homeless population increases. People believe that
if there are shelters near their homes that the value will decrease significantly.
Having homeless people lingering around one s house can be disturbing to residents,
especially in Marin for those who pride
The Pros And Cons Of Foreign Aid
To Aid or Not to Aid
Foreign aid has played an enormous role in the United States government policy,
especially since the mid twentieth century, following World War II. At that time, the
U.S. began providing financial aid, through the Marshall Plan, to help rebuild Europe
(Williams, 2015). Today, foreign aid has evolved to mean a variety of things. Foreign
aid is not strictly financial assistance. According to Williams in the Encyclopedia
Britannica (2015), foreign assistance can include military assistance or equipment,
medical assistance or equipment, or technical assistance and training. However, the
most common foreign aid is official development assistance, which is organized
through international organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary
Fund or UNICEF and used to address poverty and promote development (Williams
2015). Many people feel in the United States feel that it is necessary to provide
foreign assistance to the world. It is thought that helping less developed economies
improves the market for everyone. Others feel that many people are in need here in
the United States and that it does not make sense to send aid to other countries
when people need right in their own city, state, or country. Most people think that a
large portion of the U.S. budget is devoted to foreign aid. In contrast, according to
Rutsch (2015), the U.S. spends less than 1 percent of the federal budget on foreign
aid . With the state of the world today,
Arguments Against School Vouchers
A school voucher for grades kindergarten through twelve, allows for the parents to
use public fund to pay for some or all of their children s private school tuition.
These vouchers essentially, reimburse parents the amount of money that would have
been spent on their child in public school. The amount of money the parent will
receive for these vouchers depends upon the state one is living in. There are several
arguments for and against the voucher system. One of the biggest arguments for
vouchers is that they allow parents to choose what school is right for their child.
Parents, in taxes, pay for their children s education, and they should be able to send
their children where they want with their education dollars. These vouchers also
allow for the parent to decide what school is best fitting for their child based on their
racial, cultural, and religious background. A second argument in favor of the school
voucheris that, Advocates believe that vouchers promote fairness, participatory
democracy, and engagement with public debate as well as improved quality of
education (Hochschild Scovronick, 125). Parents who are unable to afford homes in
more prominent neighborhoods are forced to send their children to failing districts
because they are unable to afford the tuition costs of private schools. If the voucher
program was being used, then lower class parents would have the opportunity to use
their own tax dollars to send their children to a more prominent school.
New Guitar Into Its Home
Together, Mark and Ileana brought the new guitar into its home. Exhausted by the
interesting day, she told Mark that she was going to her room. Once she got there,
she flopped down onto her bed and stared up at her wooden ceiling where her
grappling hook left jagged holes. It felt like she could never be alone for more
than a few minutes because she heard someone knock on the door. Annoyed, she
said, What?! The door opened and revealed Drusilla, and immediately, Ileana
regretted her actions. I m just coming to tell you that dinner is ready, Dru said
timidly. Ileana sprang up from her bed and said, Thank you! I didn t mean to snap at

You don t have to worry about all that other stuff. Thank you, Ileana. It means a lot.
You re welcome. Any time you need to chat, just come to me. Ileana winked at the
short girl as she opened the door to the kitchen. What was it like in Italy? Dru
asked curiously as they sat down together. Italy is a very pretty country, but I left it
thinking it was ugly, all because of what happened there, Ileana said quietly so that
Emilio wouldn t hear. Julian handed her a plate of food and smiled down at her,
and she returned it with a grin. I want to go there sometime, Dru said as she dug
into her food. Perhaps we can all take a trip there. One day, I would like to see
France and England as well, Ileana said dreamily as she imagined the countries.
Why England? Isn t it really cold there? Dru said with her mouth full. Yes, but it is
an extremely beautiful country. It s different from Italy because England is not a
Mediterranean country, so to speak. Italy has a different style and different
landscape than England, Ileana said as she struggled to find the right words. That
would make sense. Are you and Julian dating? Dru asked abruptly. What would
make you say that? Ileana said as she took a small bite of the warm lasagna. Well, he
never makes lasagna, which happens to be an Italian dish, and he is constantly
looking at you,
Comparision of Genesis with Other Creation Mythologies
Essay
Comparison of Genesis with Other Creation Mythologies
We all know that our mothers and fathers gave us birth, and grandmothers and
grandfathers gave our parents birth. However, what about the beginning? What
does the beginning look like? Who created the sky, the earth, the mountains and
rivers, the plants, the animals, and the human beings? How was the world created?
What happened to the creator? These questions have puzzled and are asked by
every people. However, no one has yet found the answers, and I have heard people
saying that the creation of life is as impossible as the natural creation of an airplane
from a stack of waste. With the willingness of knowing the self, ancient people tried
to create mythological stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only difference is that in this Indian story, not even God(or an equivalent form)
was there. Egyptians and Chinese imagined the same scene, the Nun and the chaotic
egg with a giant (Egyptian, Lin 1). In contrast with the creation out of nothing, the
indigenous Australian mythology tells us that the stars, the sky, the sun, the moon,
and the ancestors of all lives were already present in the beginning, but they are
sleeping under the crust of the earth in the water holes (Aborigine). Seneca people
believed that humans were living in the heaven originally, and there were only ocean
and ocean living lives on the earth (Creation). It is very interesting to recognize how
important water is to lives. Every account of creation that I have read included water
before anything else was present.
Whatever was present in the beginning had managed to create all the rest, and the
description of creators are of three categories, a single creator, multi creators, and no
creator. In Genesis, God is the single creator, and so is Brahman of India. The
difference is that the God is immortal, but Brahman is mortal (Genesis, Genesis
Project). In Chinese mythology, Pan Gu was the creator of everything but men, who
were created by Nu Wa, a goddess (Lin 1 5). Other examples of multi creators are in
the mythology of Egypt and Seneca in which the children of the creator became
Ivy League Schools
Ivy League schools are prestigious institutions that accept only the top students in
America, and they challenge their students in all classes. These institutes represent
the best education and produce some of the most successful people in America. It
is an honor to be accepted to any Ivy League, but attending does not come cheap.
With huge tuition costs, coursework, stress, and pressure, some wonder if it is
worth the work. As someone who has worked in admission at Yale, Deresiewicz
knows what is required to go to an Ivy Leagueschool. He states, So extreme are the
admission standards now that kids who manage to get into elite colleges have, by
definition, never experienced anything but success. The prospect of not being
successful terrifies them, not merely practical, but existential (Deresiewicz203).
What Deresiewicz means is the minority of kids who get selected are all similar in
the fact that they are normally successful in everything they do. The thought of
failing in their Ivy League school terrifies them so much that it almost breaks them.
The decision to go to an Ivy League school instead of a four year universitymay not
be worth the cost, provide students with superior education, or help improve the life
of a student. In the text of the liberal magazine The New Republic, Deresiewicz
talks about his experience of working in the admissions office at Yale and reveals
some of the requirements in order for a candidate to be considered. Deresiewicz

Secrets Of The Tobacco Industry
Secrets of the Tobacco Industry
In Vanguard s documentary, Sex, Lies, and Cigarettes: Secrets of the Tobacco
Industry by director, Alex Simmons, Vanguard sends correspondent, Christof Putzel
to Jakarta, Indonesia to investigate the tobacco industry there. The documentary talks
about how America no longer allows cigarette and tobacco ads and commercials,
instead the country focuses scare tactic ads that stop people from smoking or keeps
them from starting. The tobacco industry is losing millions of dollars in America so
they re moving overseas to poorer countries like Indonesia to make their money
there. Putzel goes to see what all the tobacco industry is doing and how they re
corrupting the young people like the smoking baby , Aldi, as well as students of the
country.
The documentary is very clearly biased against big name tobacco companies like
Philip Morris International. During Putzel s travels he even goes to confront the
company, Philip Morris, and asks if all of the events that Philip Morris sponsors in
Indonesia follow the guidelines that say they do not market to minors (Plunkett and
Simmons 2011) and tries to get Anne Edwards, the spokesperson for Philip Morris
International, to even admit that they openly market to minors with their musical
guests like Flo Rida during their events as well as a new television show, A Mild
Live Rising Star, which is a lot like American Idol, but sponsored by Philip Morris

Persuasive Essay On Vaping
I get it; vaping is fun. I personally don t vape, but I get the appeal. It is a cleaner,
better smelling replacement for standard cigarettes, but sometimes they still make
smoke detectors go off. If you are in your own house, that is fine, but it gets to be a
problem when everyone in the entire dorm has to evacuate because your vapor set
off a fire alarm. You will have a long, stressful talk with the people that run
Langdale and maybe a cop or two. The worst case scenario is that you get kicked
out of your room and have to find another place to live, and if you can not find a
place, maybe your mom and dad will take you back. If you get lucky, they might let
you off with just a massive fine, but it is gonna be money out of your pocket either
way. Plus, you still did not get to vape. No matter what, you lose money, and
everyone is ticked off. I think everyone relates to being constricted by too many
rules. Some people would not mind that they can not vape whenever they want, but
if you refuse to follow all of their rules, you can still vape. There are many ways to
be smart about this.
It seems to me that the easiest solution would be to just go off campus or even just
outside if you just really need to vape. It sounds like it wouldn t be worth it but,
you honestly would not have to go far. There are two parking lots just across the
street, and nobody who cares even looks at them for most of the day. Just take a few
seconds to go down the elevator and a then it is a short walk
What Does A Symbolize In The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter s Symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
(The Symbolism of the Letter A in The Scarlet Letter)
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, the letter A symbolizes many things
through out the story. In the beginning of the book, Hester is standing on the
scaffold holding Pearl as a small baby and wearing the scarlet letter, which at this
early point in the plot represented her sin of committing adultery. Through out the
book the letter A also symbolizes Pearl because she is the product of her mother s
sin. Later in the story we as readers learn the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale is the
father of Pearl, we also learn of his guilt he has for not admitting his sin and
claiming Hester and Pearl in the beginning, therefore the scarlet letter symbolizes his
guilt. The plot of this story takes years, and in these years Hester Prynne has become
more confident in public even though she wears the scarlet letter because it helped
her find her place in her community; so the letter A symbolizes who she became. The
scarlet letter that Hester Prynne wears on her chest through out the book symbolizes
her sin, Pearl, Dimmesdale s guilt, and who she becomes. ... Show more content on

Climate Changes And Climate Change Essay
Climate change could be described as any process that causes adjustment to climate
system be it a volcanic eruption to a change in the solar activity. Today, however, the
phrase is most often used as climate change caused by humans. Climate change is
also used commonly with another phrase global warming reflecting scientific
observations of strong warming trends over the past century or so. Indicators like
rising sea levels, retreating snow cover and glaciers, longer growing seasons and
shifting wildlife has alarmed scientific community unanimously agreeing that the
earthhas warmed in the last century. Experts however are of the opinion that climate
changeis a more accurate phrase than global warming as the latter is just one
component affecting the larger climatesystems of the earth.
Based on these facts we can consider: that Climate change is a result of natural
occurrences of the adjustments done by the climate systems or a result of
anthropogenic (man made) factors leading to an acceleration of global temperatures
witnessed in the past century . Natural adjustments to climate systems:
Scientists have discovered climate forcing s influence variations in climate systems
and based on the depth and period of such forcing s the adjustments to climate may
be in a shorter or longer earth cycle. Natural forcing s like variations in earth s orbit,
solar variation, volcanic eruptions and motion of tectonic plates have influence on the

Ele Wiesel Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech
January 30, 1933 forever marks the beginning of the Holocaust, one of the most
horrifying and cruel events in the history of the world. It was the mass genocide of
millions of innocent jews, gays, Jehovah Witnesses, gypsies, and countless others.
After the Holocaust, it is clear to society that we, as people, cannot stand by and
watch as other human beings suffer from cruel acts in which they have no ability to
defend themselves. In modern day, it seems as though ethnic cleansing is becoming
less common, however, there are still many instances of it occurring around the
world. In fact, the country of Myanmar is currently attempting to deprive its
Rohingya citizens of their basic rights and exterminate them from the population.
There were many things to be learned from the Holocaust, one of the most important
including apathy toward discrimination and ethnic cleansing. In Elie Wiesel s Nobel
Peace Prize Acceptance Speech about his experienced imprisonment in concentration
camps, he explained that people must always take sides. Neutrality helps the
oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented .
According to Wiesel, someone who stands by and does nothing while another person
suffers is just as guilty as the offender. Additionally, he states in his speech The Perils
of Indifference that, Indifference reduces the other to an abstraction . A lack of
compassion toward the victims of cruel treatment shows that they are of no concern.

Review of Current Trend in Sustainable Manufacturing
A Review of Current Trend in Sustainable Manufacturing
1.ABSTRACT
Sustainable manufacturing revolves around the cooperation and efforts of
manufacturers, and the customers support towards this process. The manufacturing
industry is in support for sustainable manufacturing, but there are some factors that
still need to be ironed out so that manufacturing can go full swing into sustainable
manufacturing. Sustainable manufacturing goal can be achieved through sourcing
for materials locally, using natural resources for production instead of too much
chemical, energy and resource conservation, recycling where whatever waste that the
industry produces should and can be recycled and education about environment
conservation through sustainable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The manufacturers are more worried about their survival and the capability to
maintain sustainable design in their manufacturing process [7]. Manufacturers can try
to manufacture products using designs that use less energy and fewer natural
resources for better sustainability. As the first step, the manufacturers will have to
invest in research and development of the most effective way in order to attain these
criteria, and this involves cost. Lack of technical support among employees in
achieving sustainable manufacturing is another issue that manufacturers need to look
into and resolve [3].
4.2Knowledge on sustainability
The manufacturers fail to understand what sustainable manufacturing is all about.
The manufacturers do not realize that lack of knowledge on sustainable
manufacturing is a loss to them. At present, there are still not much accessible
resources for the manufacturers to refer to broaden their mind on issues concerning
sustainable manufacturing. Currently, since not many are practicing sustainable
practices, until it becomes something in common the manufacturer will still find it as
a difficult process to be followed. Furthermore, some manufacturers are still lacking
in awareness regarding the current market trend which demands the manufacturing
industry to focus on sustainable manufacturing instead of the traditional
Araby Historical Context

theories of Feminist Criticism and Psychoanalytical Criticism an interesting aspect
can be found, that at times they often dispute or ignore one another, though they often
coincide. Another aspect that follows along with this is that the often intertwine with
each other. Having both these topics to analyze the work Araby by James Joyce

whether women s tradition is being established in the text (Wolosky 1). These

James Joyce wrote each story as a perspective view into an Irish culture. One of the
main settings of the story is the Bazaar that is taking place, and though most writers
and analyses of this work would assume that this is not a real event this happens to
be based off true event, The Araby Bazaar. This cultural aspect was known moment
in the time of the works setting, which as part of the analysis and expands on the
confirmed time period of the story. Expanding on the analytical research behind its
religious outlook would bring information from a perspective view, as the story is
inherently Christian based (Lovejoy 584). Interpreting and analyzing these topics

Compare and Contrast: Final Kite Scene The book and the movie have several
similarities as well as many differences, this is apparent in the final moments of the
book and the movie, there are not overwhelming amount of differences as the
adaptations are very similar, but some of those differences are the loss of
significance of the ending of the scene from the book to the movie, the lack of
explanation of character relations in the movie and the lack of significant
flashbacks that are present in the book unlike in the movie. The most important
aspect of this scene in both the book and the movie is the ending of this scene. This
is due to the fact that at the end of the scene, in the book and the movie there is the
aspect of Amir feeling finally liberated from the burden of his past. The difference

Yes, it seems to get yourself worked up over xylitol, is all for nothing.
There are of course so many good and bad arguments about this stuff. It is difficult to
find a clear opinion or argument on the benefits of xylitol.

Benefits Of Xylitol
What makes the benefits of xylitol so popular is the belief the general population has
about it being a healthier choice.
You know, it actually occurs naturally in many stone fruits, oats, mushrooms, birch
tree bark and corn cob.
Sadly, however, most of the Xylitol you find on the local supermarket shelf sourced
from the corn cob.
It is cheaper and usually from genetically modified corn, produced in China.
One product I found Nirvana has a great marketing angle for using corn cob, it does
so, because it is helping protect the birch tree.
Well, yes, protecting the birch tree is good, but, if it s coming from the corn cob left
over from ethanol production which is GMO, then it has to just be all about the
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Essay
Mary Shelley wrote the book Frankenstein sometime in the 1810s. She was born in
London in 1797 (Biography). Her mother was an author of prime literary stock who
was trying to encourage women to pursue their ideas and strive to earn the status as
equals. The Scientific and Industrial Revolutions that were taking place around Mary
Shelley certainly influenced her while she was writing the book. The creation of
machines and experiments at the time made people wonder what the limit of human
technology was. During the Industrial Revolutionmachines and technology were
being introduced to people that made them worry about the lessening of the impact
that humans are making (Industrial). There were protestors at the time that thought

She was trying to instill the message that humanity cannot be replaced. In 1811
there was a revolt by the workers who did not like the way machinery was being
implemented into their work (Industrial). They felt that due to the machines they
could not use their skills and that the jobs became degrading. These people thought
that they had proven their worth already and did not need these machines to assist
them in their jobs, especially since they were now being paid less. A group of these
revolts, the Luddite revolts of 1811 1813, took place only a few short years before
Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein. Her husband Percy, was an anti establishment
activist. Neither of them liked the way all jobs were being turned into factory jobs.
In the book Victor makes a female companion for the monster but destroys it before
it becomes alive. He does this so the monster does not become too human (Burkett).
Marriage was created as a human sacrament. One that should not be offered to
something that God did not make. This would give the monster too much free will.
He chose to have a mate and if it was given to him there would be no difference
between him and humans. He had already achieved the intellect by reading books but
he could not be given the opportunity to fully experience human emotions. The
thought of the horrible things the monster could achieve together scared Victor
enough for him to destroy
A Case Of The Causeway Bay Bookstore Essay
Five associates, including a co owner, of publisher Mighty Current and its Causeway
Bay Bookstore went missing in January 2016. Known for gossipy titles about
political scandals and other sensitive issues about the Communist Party of China, the
Causeway Bay Bookstore attracts lots of mainland Chinese tourists in Hong Kong.
Therefore, when the news of the bookshop s workers has gone missing came out,
the general HK public felt shocked and appalled. Pro democracy lawmakers in HK
believe that these booksellers were kidnapped and smuggled to mainland Chinafor
political investigation. Book sold at the Causeway Bay Bookstore are banned in the
mainland, but are available in HK, where freedom of the press and other civil
liberties are enjoyed by its citizens, privileges that are unseen in mainland China(
Hong Kong Unsettled, 2016). Moreover, China s own police force, called public
security, does not have rights to act in HK territory, because HK self governs with
a different set of laws, and its own police force, and special ops, but no army, nor
are foreign embassies allowed to be set up in HK (consulates are set up instead),
which causes the HK people who enjoys their degree of independence from the
mainland more worried, concerned, and terrified by such event of potential
suppression of freedom in HK, and they see it as an attempt of hegemony, both
political and cultural, by the mainland China to HK.

Examples Of Willful Blindness
Quite often, it is very difficult to understand the need for justice unless we ourselves
are inconvenienced. Therefore, knowingly or unknowingly we ignore injustice
committed on others believing such injustice bears no harm on us. However, this line
of thinking can be morally and practically problematic. In what follows, I will
consider three examples in which I illustrate why ignorance of injustice can be
immoral while at same time bringing unfavorable outcomes. The moral and
consequential considerations render willfully ignoring injustice a mistake that harms
everyone involved in the system.
Willful blindness is ignorance of injustice which is happening in our society. Willful
blindness can be seen in our community and school very often. People ignore many
harmful actions even though they know those actions hurt many people. Today
willful blindness is very aspirating in U.S schools and administrators ignore: cheating
in exams, bulling, and giving preferential treatment for athletes are manly seen as
willful blindness.
The first example I will consider is willful ignorance of cheating in school. It is very
common that students who witness other students cheating choose not to report the
incident, on the account that their action doesn t harm them personally. In addition,
students might not want to be a snitch by exposing other students. While one might
not necessarily be directly affected by the cheating of another student, indirectly this
might lead the honor system
A Short Story About My Self Vaishali Jalandhara
Abstract This paper is a short story about my self Vaishali Jalandhara. This paper
describes my personal life starting from personal and family background,
importance of art to deal with stress for my physical and mental health, educational
and professional jouney, benefits of MBA from Sullivan university in personal and
professional growth, and my future goals, health care business opportunities in
India. Personal Introduction I am Vaishali Jalandhara. I born and brought up in a
small, beautiful family in Junagadh, India. India is a very diverse country. Each
state has its own distinctive culture in terms of food, attire, customs, rituals,
festivals, lifestyle, language, and many more avenues. I consider myself very
fortunate as I have got the opportunity to get exposed towards different cultures as
being a geologist my father had transferrable government job. I spent majority of my
formative years in Junagadh. I finishesd my high school in Junagadh. Then I moved
to Ahmedabad to pursue post graduation and create my independent identity. Having
been the youngest one in a middle class family, I came across a lot of challenges
and opportunities as well. The challenges were to excel beyond the standards set by
my elder siblings and get acknowledgment based on my own achievements without
being compared to others. Along with them, there was a great amount of resistance
for creative thoughts and approaches because of many abortive attempts by my
elders. And of course, there
All The President s Men By Bob Woodward And Carl
Bernstein
All The President s Men by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein tells the story
behind the Watergate scandal. It all started with a burglary at the Democratic
headquarters, but proved to be something much more complex. This story tells how
two reporters worked with sources to uncover deceit in the highest levels of
government. On June 17, 1972, Woodward was asked to cover a story for his job at
the Washington Post. There had been a burglary at the Watergate hotel. When he
arrived at the newsroom, he discovered that this wasn t an ordinary burglary, and he
wasn t the only one reporting on it. The burglars had broken into the headquarters of
the Democratic national committee in the Watergate office apartment hotel complex.
Bernstein had the same assignment. The two men had no appreciation for each other.
At the trial, Woodward realized that there might be more to the story. Bernstein did
some research of his own while he was taking a few days off of work. He
interviewed others and observed that the White House wasn t the well oiled machine
it came across as being. Some viewed the President s men with scorn. On June 22,
President Nixon publicly stated that the White House had no involvement with the
particular incident, Watergate. The reporters, now working together, noticed that he
used the words this particular incident. Powerful men resigned from their jobs, and
Bernstein and Woodward learned about a secret fund used to undermine Democratic
political campaigns using

  • 2. What Is The Diction In The Call Of The Wild Call Of The Wild In the classic, Call Of The Wild, by Jack London, Buck, a southland dog from California, is sold off to gold seekers during the Alaskan Gold Rush. He is thrust into the brutal and unforgiving life of a sled dog and is vilely treated. Buck then must adapt to the harsh life he has been placed into by learning to fight and survive in order to prosper. Years after he was drafted into the gold rush, he is rescued from his suffering by a man named John Thornton. While bonding with John, Buck is also growing closer to nature. When Buck was out exploring, John s camp was attacked by indians, and he is killed. Buck then decides to return to the wild and live like his ancestors. The author is highly intentional of the diction used in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This first theft marked Buck as fit to survive in the hostile Northland environment. It marked his adaptability, and his capacity to adjust himself to changing conditions, the lack of which would have meant swift and terrible death. It marked, further, the decay or going to pieces of his moral nature, a vain thing and a handicap in the ruthless struggle for existence. It was all well enough in the Southland, under the law of love and fellowship, to respect private property and personal feelings; but in the Northland, under the law of club and fang, whoso took such things into account was a fool, and in so far he observed them he would fail to prosper (London 13). The tone transitions from a happy to serious and cruel tone through diction by changing the author s view of the
  • 3. Antibiotic Resistance Is A Growing Problem Throughout The... Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem throughout the globe. Besides using antibiotics for medical use, they are being used in the agriculture industry. In animals, antibiotics are being used to treat diseases, but also to prevent diseases from occurring and to increase the growth of animals (Mehndiratta, 2014, p.340). In recent years, the evidence of farmers using antibiotics for non traditional ways has sparked major controversy. In agriculture 90% of antibiotics are used for growth promoting and prophylactic agents with the other 10% being used to treat diseases (Khachatourians, 1998, p.2). To understand why this occurs, we first must understand the genetic basis for antibiotic resistanceand the occurrence of antibiotic resistance in selected organisms. By farmers doing this an increase in the number and types of microorganisms resistant to drugs, has increased public health problems. Finally, management options for reducing antibiotics in the environment have to occur. If farmers continue to use antibiotics for non traditional uses, as humans we can be affected greatly not just by food supply, but by water runoff, the air, and even the soil. Also, more public health problems will occur. However, to completely understand the effects of antibiotic resistance, we need to understand the genetic component of how bacteria becomes resistant. An antibiotic can operate at different sites within the bacterial cell, some infect the cell wall or the membranes, making it
  • 4. Analysis Of The Movie The Manchurian Candidate On the surface, the movie The Manchurian Candidate presents a parallel universe inspired by the paranoid right wing illusions of people who believed in the Red Scare. The film itself crosses over into several different dramas: war film, political satire, paranoid science fiction, black comedy, suspenseful intrigue, and horror. The notion that the Russian and Chinese Communists were working together to take over the U.S. by infiltrating them was a common idea. Because of the communist brainwashing when captured, Raymond Shaw s lack of agency allows him to be controlled by outside influences in order to infiltrate the United States. The paranoia and fear of losing control to the communists during the Red Scare is paralleled in the film to a fear of the power that women had over men. The relationship that Raymond Shaw has with the women in his life is in complete opposition of the normal relationships men had with women during the Cold War. This opposition is analogous throughout the entire movie, especially in the dream sequence and in relation to Eleanor Shaw. Distorted representations of both men and women, which are not of the customary gender roles during this time, contribute to the formation of a pubic spectacle. The relationship between Eleanor and Raymond Shaw is not detailed in the movie, however her explicit control over him is evident. The Jocasta complex presented in the novel creates a conflict for the remainder of Raymond s life. His mother controls Raymond
  • 5. Letter From Birmingham Jail By Dr. King The use of just laws was first abided by Dr. King in his Letter From Birmingham Jail. In this letter, he mentions the necessity of just laws in society and how individuals are morally obliged to follow them. He also makes a clear distinction between just and unjust laws, further advocating his beliefs. Dr. King defines the two different laws in his interpretation of what they actually mean in society. A just law is a human made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. In other words, a law that can uplift the personality of an individual is a law that is just. Also, citizens also have their moral responsibility in a constitutional democratic society to obey and abide by the laws of the country. In comparison to just... In an article by Global Citizens called 10 Ridiculously Sexist Laws in the 21st Century it explains the unethical law from Yemen in 1992 that states a wife must permit [her husband] to have legitimate intercourse with her when she is fit to do so . In the beginning it was very confusing because you have to follow along with the characters without words being said. Also, because of all the possible disorders that can be developing in the characters of the movie. It is most recognized by the main character Daniel Plainview and all the possible perspectives of interpretations (Analysis 0:20) this movie has. As I was watching this movie, this would be more of a family study as its most important theme. (Analysis 0:36) This is because it seems that Daniel is the father to all the characters and then they are in the end related to him in some way. I believe that all the characters in the movie that were introduced were there to affect Daniel in some way, be a contrast to him, or be a reflection of him. Daniel Plainview is a man who has severe trust issues and is very troubled, but he wants to have a family. His characteristics are so heavily shown though the movie that they end up being his major flaws in the movie. These flaws are the things that end up destroying his connections to his family in every aspect. Anything that was thrown at him in the movie, did not impact him enough to change who he really was. For example, his son going deaf from the oil well explosion, which was an explosion that sent H.W flying and ultimately hitting his head on the hard roof of the shack. • 8. Critical Review Of Ovid s Aeneid And Aeneid Critical Review of Ovid s and Virgil s Aeneid The tale of the Aeneid tells the story of Aeneas and how he founds the Roman people. The most well known version of this story is Virgil s Aeneid. The traditional interpretation of Virgil s depiction of the hero and the myth is that it was used as propaganda for the new imperial system that the emperor Augustus had introduced. In contrast with this is the Harvard School interpretation, which states that Virgils Aeneid is actually undermining the Imperial system. Despite there being some evidence for this, Virgil s illustration best fits under the traditional interpretation. In contrast with this is Ovid s Little Aeneid found in his Metamorphoses. This essay will analyse these illustrations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Virgil s portrayal of Aeneascan arguably be based off of Augustus. His characterisation and values he is shown to possess demonstrate that of an ideal Roman citizen; the value most referenced and recognisable in the text is his piety. This refers to his religiousness and his ability to put duty before his own wants and needs. An example of this is him leaving Dido (Virgil Aen, 4.393 394). This abandoning of Dido, although tragic, shows his pietas to the will of the gods, his followers and to his son Iulus. Although a modern view of this part of the story suggests Virgil is pitying Dido and the Carthaginians and presenting Aeneas as cold and unsympathetic, to the Romans of the time Aeneas is performing his duty to the future state. Also, the Roman s prized moderation and self control therefore Dido s reaction to Aeneas leaving would be seen as excessive and over dramatic which would reinforce the idea of non Romans being barbarians and also demonstrates Virgil s propagandistic intentions. Virgil successfully uses the Dido affair to strengthen and develop this idea of piety. Ovid s treatment of Dido and Aeneas is in stark contrast with Virgil s. Where as Virgil has used it as a device to showcase Aeneas leadership and pietas to his people and gods, Ovid mentions it in passing while rushing through to other individual s stories (Ovid, Met. 14.75). The two narratives of the story are very distinctive; Virgil

Super Power Involvement in the Middle East The superpowers, namely the USSR and US were in engaged in a war by proxy, which is very easy to identify if you analyze the conflicts in the Middle East from 1948 until, and including, the Yom Kippur War of 1978. The superpowers would employ tactics such as supplying their various allies in the Middle East with weapons and finances which would afford them the ability to engage in the many conflicts that took place in that period such as the Suez Crisis, Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War. All of this was done without either superpower s putting their own men on the ground to fight, for fear of an all out war between each other. However much the superpowers might have fuelled the conflicts with supplying the Arabs and Israelis with weapons and finances, they were not the cause for the conflicts as they are much deeper rooted. Israeland the Arab states have always seen tension as per their culture and religious differences, and the growing nationalism of the Arab states and Zionism in Israel, which amounted to extreme actions such as the three major conflicts during the time period 1956 1978. Arguments Against School Vouchers A school voucher for grades kindergarten through twelve, allows for the parents to use public fund to pay for some or all of their children s private school tuition. These vouchers essentially, reimburse parents the amount of money that would have been spent on their child in public school. The amount of money the parent will receive for these vouchers depends upon the state one is living in. There are several arguments for and against the voucher system. One of the biggest arguments for vouchers is that they allow parents to choose what school is right for their child. Parents, in taxes, pay for their children s education, and they should be able to send their children where they want with their education dollars. These vouchers also allow for the parent to decide what school is best fitting for their child based on their racial, cultural, and religious background. A second argument in favor of the school voucheris that, Advocates believe that vouchers promote fairness, participatory democracy, and engagement with public debate as well as improved quality of education (Hochschild Scovronick, 125). Parents who are unable to afford homes in more prominent neighborhoods are forced to send their children to failing districts because they are unable to afford the tuition costs of private schools. If the voucher program was being used, then lower class parents would have the opportunity to use their own tax dollars to send their children to a more prominent school.

He states, So extreme are the admission standards now that kids who manage to get into elite colleges have, by definition, never experienced anything but success. The prospect of not being successful terrifies them, not merely practical, but existential (Deresiewicz203). What Deresiewicz means is the minority of kids who get selected are all similar in the fact that they are normally successful in everything they do. The thought of failing in their Ivy League school terrifies them so much that it almost breaks them. The decision to go to an Ivy League school instead of a four year universitymay not be worth the cost, provide students with superior education, or help improve the life of a student. In the text of the liberal magazine The New Republic, Deresiewicz talks about his experience of working in the admissions office at Yale and reveals some of the requirements in order for a candidate to be considered. It is a cleaner, better smelling replacement for standard cigarettes, but sometimes they still make smoke detectors go off. If you are in your own house, that is fine, but it gets to be a problem when everyone in the entire dorm has to evacuate because your vapor set off a fire alarm. You will have a long, stressful talk with the people that run Langdale and maybe a cop or two. The worst case scenario is that you get kicked out of your room and have to find another place to live, and if you can not find a place, maybe your mom and dad will take you back. If you get lucky, they might let you off with just a massive fine, but it is gonna be money out of your pocket either way. Plus, you still did not get to vape. No matter what, you lose money, and everyone is ticked off. I think everyone relates to being constricted by too many rules. Some people would not mind that they can not vape whenever they want, but if you refuse to follow all of their rules, you can still vape. There are many ways to be smart about this. It seems to me that the easiest solution would be to just go off campus or even just outside if you just really need to vape. It sounds like it wouldn t be worth it but, you honestly would not have to go far. There are two parking lots just across the street, and nobody who cares even looks at them for most of the day. Just take a few seconds to go down the elevator and a then it is a short walk

In the beginning of the book, Hester is standing on the scaffold holding Pearl as a small baby and wearing the scarlet letter, which at this early point in the plot represented her sin of committing adultery. Through out the book the letter A also symbolizes Pearl because she is the product of her mother s sin. Later in the story we as readers learn the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale is the father of Pearl, we also learn of his guilt he has for not admitting his sin and claiming Hester and Pearl in the beginning, therefore the scarlet letter symbolizes his guilt. The plot of this story takes years, and in these years Hester Prynne has become more confident in public even though she wears the scarlet letter because it helped her find her place in her community; so the letter A symbolizes who she became. Today, however, the phrase is most often used as climate change caused by humans. Climate change is also used commonly with another phrase global warming reflecting scientific observations of strong warming trends over the past century or so. Indicators like rising sea levels, retreating snow cover and glaciers, longer growing seasons and shifting wildlife has alarmed scientific community unanimously agreeing that the earthhas warmed in the last century. Experts however are of the opinion that climate changeis a more accurate phrase than global warming as the latter is just one component affecting the larger climatesystems of the earth. Based on these facts we can consider: that Climate change is a result of natural occurrences of the adjustments done by the climate systems or a result of anthropogenic (man made) factors leading to an acceleration of global temperatures witnessed in the past century . Therefore, knowingly or unknowingly we ignore injustice committed on others believing such injustice bears no harm on us. However, this line of thinking can be morally and practically problematic. In what follows, I will consider three examples in which I illustrate why ignorance of injustice can be immoral while at same time bringing unfavorable outcomes. The moral and consequential considerations render willfully ignoring injustice a mistake that harms everyone involved in the system. Willful blindness is ignorance of injustice which is happening in our society. Willful blindness can be seen in our community and school very often. People ignore many harmful actions even though they know those actions hurt many people. Today willful blindness is very aspirating in U.S schools and administrators ignore: cheating in exams, bulling, and giving preferential treatment for athletes are manly seen as willful blindness. The first example I will consider is willful ignorance of cheating in school. It is very common that students who witness other students cheating choose not to report the incident, on the account that their action doesn t harm them personally. In addition, students might not want to be a snitch by exposing other students. While one might not necessarily be directly affected by the cheating of another student, indirectly this might lead the honor system
