African oil palm(Elaeis guineensis)
• Also called as Macaw-fat
• Source of palm oil
• Present in Srilanka,
Malaysia,Indonesia,Central
America, cambodia, West
Indies, several island in the
indian and pacific ocean
Important facts
• Through Archeologist research founded that
Arab traders brought the oil palm to Egypt
• It is much more oil producing about 9X more
than soy ,4.5X more than Rapeseed.
Coconut (cocos nocifera)
• Member of palm tree family
• Also called as tree of life
• Mainly used as food,fuel, cosmetics,folk medicine
and building materials
• Mature ripe coconut can be used as edible seeds or
processed for oil and plant milk from flesh
• Charcoal from hard shell
• Coir from fibrous husk
• Oil is used for frying as well as in soaps and cosmetics
Coconut producing countries
Sunflower(Helianthus)
• Genus comprising about 70 species in flowering plants
• Cultivated in temperate and subtropical region
• Grown as food crops for humans ,cattle and poultry as well
• Peak grown season is mid-summer.
Maize(Zea mays)
• Firstly domesticated by indigenous
people in S-Mexico
• Some products and bye products are:
• Corn syrup
• Corn starch. 🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽
• Corn oil
• Distillation to form alcoholic beverages
• .
Also used to
form ethanol
and biofuel
Corn producing countries
Cotton seed oil
• Cooking oil from seeds
of cotton plants
• Main species are
Gossypium hirsutum
and Gossypium
herbaceum
• These are grown for
cotton fibre,,Animal
feed,and oil
•
Palm kernel oil
• An edible plant oil derived
from kernel of oil palm
• Highly saturated with fats
so give rise to palmitic
acid
• Palm kernel oil is semi-
solid at room temperature
Camelina Sativa
• Flowering plant of family Brassicaceae
• Mostly adapted to cold semi arid climate zone
• Cultivated in Europe,Asia and North
America
• Oil is used as edible oil and as
biodiesel
Ricinus Communis
• Castor bean or castor oil plant
• Castor bean contain 40-60% oil
that is rich in
tryglyceroides,mainly ricinoleic
• Leading producing county is India
Safflower (carthamus tinctorius)
• Cultivated for
vegetable oil
extracted from seeds
• Native to arid
environment having
seasonal rain
Rapeseed(Brassica napus)
Cultivated for rich oil seeds
Contain appreciable amount of
Erucic acid
Third largest source of vegetable
oil
White Mustard(sinapis alba)
• Grown for it's seed
• Originated in
Mediterranean
region
• Common in
Europe,North
Africa,the middle
east and central
asia.
Major oil seed crops grown in Pakistan
• Rapeseed and Mustard
• Sunflower
• Sesame
• Soybean
• Linseed
• Castor seed
• Safflower
Rapeseed &
Mustard
• Oil
• Canola and Rapeseed cake
• Rapeseed hulls
• Cold pressed meal
Sunflower • Cooking oil
• Confectionery sunflower seed
Seasame • Oil
• Seasame cake
• Bean dishes and confections
Products and By products
Soybean • Oil
• soymilk
• soyflour
• Animal feed
Castorseed • Castoroil cake
• Castor meal
Safflower • Food colouring
• cosmetics
• Cattle feed after oil extraction
Seeds and oil content
• Soybean (20-22%)
• Flax (33-47%)
• Peanut (45%)
• Sesame (46-52%)
• Coconut (60-70%)
• Sunflower (35-45%)
• Cotton oil seed (15-20%)
• Safflower (28-38%)
• Sunflower seed (45-55%)
Ways to extract oil
1.Rendering(implications of heat)
2.Through grinding
3.Cold pressed oil(allow better oil
flavour)
4.Using volatile solvent(petroleum
benzin)
Problems regarding oil seed
crops in Pakistan
• Pakistan has been constantly and chronically
defecient in its production
• About 70%of the domestic needs are met
through import
• Sunflower and canola emerged as high yield
oil crops.
Some other problems
• Farmers are not well aware of the technology use
• They don't have any idea for the usage of different
fertilizers
• Due to this they use the low quality and sometime
expired insecticides or pesticides
• These illetracy problem enhance problems regarding
crop production
• This may ruin the whole crop
Some solutions to agricultural problems
• Farmers should be well aware of the use of:
• Technology
• Pesticides
• Insecticides
• Investment in the agriculture sector is a revolutionary
step
• Investment helps alot toward technology use in
agriculture
• Loans to farmer on less interest must be available.
• Information and awareness about the sowing method is
really much important such as
• Lands with salanity must be treated in a natural way
• For example growing saline trees so that the soil can be
neutralize
• There must be a use of hybrid seed , so high yield of a crop
production can be obtained
• Agricultural researching organization play important role in
the awareness of farmers and research on better seed
• Hybrid seed usage could enhance the production of crop
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
Being an agricultural county Pakistan
spends three to four Billion dollars every
year on the import of crude edible oil.we
must try to deal with these emerging
problems so that we can enhance our
production level of agricultural products
and bye-products.

  • 38.
  • 39.
  • 40. Some other problems • Farmers are not well aware of the technology use • They don't have any idea for the usage of different fertilizers • Due to this they use the low quality and sometime expired insecticides or pesticides • These illetracy problem enhance problems regarding crop production • This may ruin the whole crop
  • 41. Some solutions to agricultural problems • Farmers should be well aware of the use of: • Technology • Pesticides • Insecticides • Investment in the agriculture sector is a revolutionary step • Investment helps alot toward technology use in agriculture • Loans to farmer on less interest must be available.
  • 42. • Information and awareness about the sowing method is really much important such as • Lands with salanity must be treated in a natural way • For example growing saline trees so that the soil can be neutralize • There must be a use of hybrid seed , so high yield of a crop production can be obtained • Agricultural researching organization play important role in the awareness of farmers and research on better seed • Hybrid seed usage could enhance the production of crop
  • 43. CONCLUSION CONCLUSION Being an agricultural county Pakistan spends three to four Billion dollars every year on the import of crude edible oil.we must try to deal with these emerging problems so that we can enhance our production level of agricultural products and bye-products.
