Obesity Argumentative Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of obesity can be both challenging and thought-provoking. This
issue is multifaceted, encompassing various aspects such as societal norms, personal choices,
genetic predispositions, and the influence of the food industry. Crafting an argumentative essay
requires a thorough understanding of the subject, backed by credible research and data.
One of the difficulties lies in presenting a balanced perspective. Addressing the complexities of
obesity without oversimplifying the causes or stigmatizing individuals requires a nuanced
approach. Additionally, navigating through the vast array of available information and studies to
extract relevant and reliable data can be time-consuming.
The argumentative nature of the essay adds another layer of complexity. It demands the writer to
articulate a clear stance, supported by evidence and logical reasoning, while acknowledging
counterarguments. Striking the right balance between emotion and rationality is crucial, as
obesity is not just a medical condition but often carries social and psychological implications.
Furthermore, the sensitivity of the topic requires careful consideration of language to avoid
perpetuating stereotypes or shaming individuals struggling with obesity. It's important to foster a
constructive dialogue that encourages understanding and empathy rather than promoting
judgment.
In conclusion, composing an argumentative essay on obesity necessitates meticulous research, a
nuanced perspective, and the ability to present a compelling argument without disregarding the
complexity and sensitivity of the issue. Nevertheless, with dedication and a thoughtful approach,
a well-crafted essay can contribute to the ongoing discourse surrounding this prevalent health
concern.

Comparing Dante s Inferno And Virgil s The Aeneid
There are many similarities between Dante s The Inferno and Virgil s The Aeneid,
be it their characterizations or descriptive imagery, but foremost in their ideas of
what the afterlife consisted of. Each each epic hero in the works here have descended
in to the depths of hell, with The Inferno depicting Dante s descent into the depths of
helland with Virgilin Book VI of The Aeneiddepicting Aeneas s decent into hell. It
can be argued that although different, the knowledge acquired by each character s
descent was equally important to accomplishing their greater tasks at the ends of
their journey. Had their descent into hell been skipped their outcomes would have
concluded in a different way because their voyages to Hell each played a crucial role
in the advancing each narrative.
The Aeneid is a grand chronicle that charts Aeneas obstacles versus his
accomplishments. Aeneas s accomplishments entail escaping Juno s wrath; leaving
and finding love; and losing loved ones in war. Against all odds, Aeneas continued
to achieve victory over all his potential downfalls. With some divine assistance,
Aeneas continued to achieve victory over all his potential downfalls. With some
divine assistance, Aeneas recognizes his need to help midway through his journey
and needs to speak with his father, Anchises. In Book VI, he asks the Sibyl to grant
him access into the underworld. Aeneas journey leads him to many discoveries. He
discovers Leucaspis and Orontes are among all in the nearby

Vard The Evolution Of The Film Genre
Films are divided by different genres a French word meaning type or kind (Neale
Stephen, 7), including melodrama, comedy, and tragedy. Genre has occupied an
important place in the study of the cinema for over thirty years. One of the biggest
genres that has been evolved over the years and has many implications is
melodrama. As a theatrical genre, melodrama came into existence in the late
eighteenth century in France and Germany (Neale Stephen, 184). In the following
century melodrama genre has spread and developed quick from France to Britain,
America, and the rest of Europe. The melodrama initial definition was both formal
and specific: melodrama was a dramatic passage, scene or play in which at first

Streak Plate Isolation for Obtaining Pure Culture
1. When an agar plate is inoculated, why is the loop sterilized after the initial
inoculation in put on?
Ans: We use agar plateto inoculate microbes by zipping the loop on the agar several
times. We streak on the agar plate four time, propose is to isolate the unknown
bacteria. Therefore, the first time to streak on the plate, there are million of bacteria
on the loop. For that reason, we need to sterilize the loop before next streaking. Then
we can get small group of colonies out from the large group of colonies to observe
and distinguish the unknown bacteria.

6. Why is necessary to isolate individual colonies from a mixed growth?
Ans: Every individual colony in a mixed growth might present different bacteria. We
isolate them to help us effectively to determine on their differences.
7. Why was blood agar, rather than a nutrient agar plate used for the culture from your
mouth?
Ans: Because in a blood agar contains more nutrient than a nutrient agar. In our
mouth it could have more different species bacteria that blood agar will be a great
place for them to grow.
8. Are a large number of microorganisms found in the mouth a cause for concern?
Explain.
Ans: In my opinion, it might not necessary to worry about microorganisms in our
mouth. There are some of them are harmless bacteria, and keep balance in our mouth.
Therefore, depending on the species we may take more concern.
9. How do microorganisms find their way into the mouth?
Ans: there are a lot of ways microbe can go inside our mouth, such as eating food,
drinking water, putting fingers on mouth. All of them could covered with
microorganisms to pass through to our mouth.

Analysis Of Steven Galloway s The Cellist Of Sarajevo
Knowing no one is coming, but not wanting to believe it : How war affects the self
concept of those living in the battlefield in The Cellist of Sarajevo
Steven Galloway s novel The Cellist of Sarajevo follows Sarajevo citizens who are
struggling to survive in their home during the genocide which occurred there in the
1990 s. These people become psychologically affected through living on a
battleground, and in a life altering way. The very image of war is enough for most to
feel disappointed in mankind, but watching your home crumble around you while
being able to see the faces of those causing the destruction would likely make one lose
any remaining faith in humanity. This is demonstrated in The Cellist by the agency
of the bystanders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just then it starts raining and everything gets washed away: not even a trace of the
young guy is left, nor a trace of the canister. Just water. As if nothing on the street
changed, except everyone got just a bit quieter(11).
This is almost the exact scene from The Cellist(Galloway 159 163) in which
afterward Kenan is quiet, as are the people in the poem, but he also is in such shock
from the tragedy that he pays no attention to the water that spills (165) and is
careless, likely beginning to show this change in personality after the gore he has
witnesses. This later translates into him feeling detached [and] unconcerned about
others (Reactions after trauma), seen when he decides to leave Mrs. Ristovski s
water behind in the war zone. Kenan has full intent of going back over the bridge a
second time to retrieve her water, but spur of the moment He turns away, and picks
up the rope binding his own bottles (Galloway 171). The caring and helpful nature
observed earlier shies away after living the crimes being committed against his
people, which can be viewed as an effect of the bombing, as before that had
happened or set in he had full intentions to bring water back for his neighbour. Kenan
is of the unlucky who must venture out of their houses and face this reality multiple
times a week, while opposite that is Dragan and Emina, who have personal reasons to
subject themselves to the gore. Starting with Emina, who is

Similarities Between The Illiad And Theseus
A hero can be defined as one who risks his or her life for the greater good. The
majority of heroes are looked up upon and inspire others to better themselves. In the
stories, The Illiad and Theseus, both heroes are both born with abilities that allow
them to accomplish many great things in their lifetime, but they still have human like
traits that make them relate to us more and make us admire them even more. Both

On the other hand, Theseus was loyal towards his people and his country. He
defended his country from the Amazonians and the Minotaur. The Amazonians
were a group of women that lived in Asia and were fierce warriors. They invaded
Greece and Athens. By listening to Athena s advice Theseus was able to defeat
them. Achilles shows his sympathy towards Hector s father even though he
despised his son. Priam, Hector s father and the king of Troy, comes to Achilles
wailing and pleading for his beloved son s body back so that he could have a
proper funeral. When Hector pleads to Achilles as his dying wish to return his
body to his father and mother ...so that our men and women may accord me to

claiming that he won t have a deathbed ...nor will you be laid out and mourned by

him to be eaten by animals, but understanding how it feels like to loose a loved one,
he returns Hector s body to Priam and Hector is given a proper
Adelaide s Beaches Analysis
The coast is the buffer between terrestrial land and the marine, it is the boundary of
where land meets water which is known as the coastline. Tides, waves and currents
are what help form coastlines. However, when waves meet or crash on the shore,
they erode the land, leaving behind tiny parts of the sea such as shells, seaweed and
marine life. Although, over the past 30 years central beaches are continually eroding
because sand is pushed along the coastby waves. (BAC Australia, n.d) Coastlines are
badly affected by erosion and The Coast Protection Board is urgently needed to
protect and manage Adelaide s beaches. Without them managing the beaches, several
of Adelaide s southern metropolitan beaches will be left with very little sand on them.

Geological history has ancient records of Australia being connected to Antarctica
land mass, being apart of Gondwanaland. This mass of land was mainly above sea
level, which began to change due to the tertiary period because of extreme climates
and erosion. Australia was separated from Gondwanaland approximately 55 million
years ago. (Department for environmental heritage and Aboriginal Affairs, n.d) The
separation of the continents occurred along the continent that is now known as the
southern boundary. (ibid) The what seems like simple separation of land caused
huge movements and resurfaced a lot of land. For example, the St Vincent basin
which is located north/south of Australia was dramatically changed and formed
step able rocks, and the Adelaide hills were also formed. Sea levels were also
dramatically sunken 120 meters below the average level than what sea levels show
today. In the 21st century the movements still exist and happen daily, however, that
are at a very slow rate.

Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 Comparison to the Matrix

Ray Bradbury s novel Fahrenheit 451 speculates on a future society in which there
is no real knowledge, just a façade of lies because there are no testaments of truth,
books. This book shares a plot much like that of the Warner Brothers blockbuster,
Matrix, in which the human race is kept in the shadow of the truth by being put
into a virtual reality. In both stories a destroyed civilization is being suppressed by
an evil leader. Also, in both of these works have an average man rise from the ashes
of his previous life and become instruments in the changing of the way life is. Of
course, no story would be complete without the tenacious leaders who push the

with equipment to combat the lack of knowledge in the population. ?He picked up
something no larger than a .22 bullet,? says Montag when Faber is giving Montag
an earpiece to let Faber help him in whatever situation he may be in and to coach
him through the process of his mission against the ignorance. Morpheus also
combats their dark forces by uploading cool new programs to enhance his strengths.
For example, Morpheus tells tank to upload fighting programs to Neo and Neo
responds, ?I know kung fu!?
To illustrate another comparison of characters, Beatty, a chief of the fire station and
promoter of the saying ?Ignorance is bliss,? is responsible for getting rid of
knowledge and replicating his own ignorance onto others. Agent Smith does exactly
the same action, replication, yet his action is literal. Beatty, the destroyer of
knowledge and of enlightenment is totally and completely the same as Agent Smith
in Matrix. Beatty knows the truth, what most do not know, about life, and what?s in
books. Beatty talks up a storm to those in the dark and essentially turns others into a
living copy of him. Both men are deliberately trying to put the world out of the loop
by making all others just as they are. Agent Smith jabs his hand into an innocent and
they are turned into him. Beatty has already put his thoughts into his fellow firemen
and can be shown when Beatty explains his ideas at the greasy poker table. None of

London Is The Most Eclectic Megalopolis Of The West
Unusually, I was a late subscriber to the idea of observing deeply into the capital s
wonders; London is possibly the most eclectic megalopolis of the West, it stirs
ambition like no other place, in some professional sectors it s like swimming
against the tide if you re not registered in London. Realistically for me, it probably
was six years ago, when I took note of what London urbanity offers, before then, I
was probably too busy, fatigued and self orientated to allow London a laborious
thought in the early noughties; I recall, it took a nudge from famous authors who
resided in the capital, such as Iain Sinclair, J.G. Ballard and Hanif Kureishi, to name
a few, who systematically embraced the capitalwithin their creative works. Their
savoir faire wordage spurred me on to experience London with fresh eyes; I owe
much to their observations, they introduced me to London s identities just enough, so
you can muster your own observations and prose. The process was like peering
through a keyhole at collective humanism entirely unique to the voyeur. For London
truly is a collaboration of creativity and creed, to state the City has one identity stroke
congruence is veraciously wrong. London is that versatile, it has a plethora of
characteristics, rich in detail, purpose and belonging; why everyone has an opinion
whatever the experience, London demands respect. Author: Craig Taylortakes this
analogy a step further and in the book: Londoners; he strings together
Canadian Civilian Gun Ownership Regulations
It will go down in history as the day Canadians stopped feeling so safe. In the early
hours of the morning on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, Michael Zehaf Bibeau, a 32
year old Canadian born Islam convert, fatally shot a soldier with a hunting rifle at the
National War Memorial in Ottawa before opening fire at nearby Parliament Hill.
Gunfire echoed through the hallowed halls of the Centre Block just inches away
from where the Canadian government was preparing to debate legislation that would
relax gun control regulations. This tragic incident has unsurprisingly ignited debate
about gun control laws in Canada, and sparked questions about the country s
supposed culture of safety and openness. While relatively rare in Canada, historical...

In addition, Bill C 150 made it illegal for criminals and the mentally unstable to
possess guns. In 1977, the House of Commons passed Bill C 51, establishing new
kinds of gun ownership permits called firearms acquisition certificates, which
increased barriers to access by requiring applicants to pass background checks. The
movement for stronger and more effective gun control was reinvigorated a decade
later in the aftermath of the worst shooting incident in Canadian history: the
Montreal Massacre. On December 6, 1989, twenty five year old Marc LГ©pine took
a sixty student engineering classroom hostage at Г‰cole Polytechnique with a
legally obtained Mini 14 hunting rifle. Expressing anti feminist sentiments, he
allowed fifty male students to safely exit the room before turning his gun on the
remaining nine women, killing six and wounding three. LГ©pine then continued his
carnage in the school s corridors, cafeteria, classrooms and offices, killing fourteen
women in total and injuring another fourteen people, including four men. Over the
next few years, public appeals for stricter gun control regulations grew increasingly
forceful, culminating in the 1995 Firearms Act, or Bill C 68. The Firearms Act
codified Canada s gun control laws as they exist today. Specifically, it implemented a
new federal licensing system, mandated the registration of all

The Subjectivity of Women to Modern Mass Media s Construed Views of Beauty
and How Their Effects on Body Image According to Medline Plus s medical
dictionary, a portion of the National Institute of Health s website for patients and their

Despite the differing circumstances of these earlier time periods, the same
unrealistic bodily ideals that society expected of women then still exist today.
Mass media emits mixed signals as to what s hot and what s not with every
advertisement they publicize. On one hand, companies advertise emaciated
supermodels through television, magazine advertisements, and the like, who are
idolized simply because they are skinny, as skinny has developed into one end of
the hot spectrum of modern day America. There is a catch, however. More and
more supermodels, like those who model for Victoria s Secret for example, have
thin bodies, muscle tone, and larger chests. Many women have the tendency to
idolize this figure and believe this is the way they should want to look in order to
be considered sexy. Even the Barbie doll, for example, has unrealistic proportions
that are simply physiologically impossible for any woman to have. These ideals are
far too irrational for any woman to reach. On the other hand, more and more
companies are making claims that larger, plus size women should also be viewed as
beautiful or sexy, in attempts to make those who are larger than normal feel more
comfortable in their own skins. Given these mixed images, women are faced with
unrealistic expectations every time they crack open a
Hope In The Trojan Women
Troy lies in ruins after Greek armies win the Trojan War and ransack the city. The
Trojan Women is not to a great extent a tragic account; however a depiction of a
tragic situation of the horrors of war and its aftermath, whereby Euripides
dramatizes the hardships of war and to some extent is an ironical illustration of
hope. Euripides often uses unconventional views of Greek society, particularly the
life of women and slaves; in the The Trojan Women we establish that the slave
women encompass a nobility state of mind that stands in unusual contrast to the
inhumanity of the victorious Greek warriors. The terrors of war have hardly
changed within thousands of years. We can say the same about war now, Euripides
was trying to say with his play... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Helen s situation is also distinguished by the fact that she is the only woman
targeted by the Trojan women themselves for hatred and condemnation. They
accuse her of being the cause of the war that has brought death to all the Trojan
warrior heroes and has culminated in the downfall of Troy itself. She is also
considered to be the nuisance of her own kinsmen, the Greeks. In the eyes of the
Trojan women, including Hecuba, Helen lacks womanly virtues and is completely
bereaved of refined sentiments. Her renowned beauty is a trap that she deliberately
and opportunistically utilizes to manipulate men like Paris in her greedy quest for
bodily pleasures and luxurious

lungs not to function correctly is referred to as lung disease. The three main types
consist of lung tissue diseases, airway diseases, and pulmonary circulation
diseases. Lung tissue diseases involve the lung tissue structure. When the tissue
becomes inflamed and scarred, the lungs are no longer able to fully expand, which
is known as restrictive lung disease. In addition, it also causes the lungs to have
more difficulty taking in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. An example of lung
tissue disease is pulmonary fibrosis, which is sometimes described as a feeling of
not being able to take a deep breath. Airway diseases involve the tubes, or airways,
that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are times when a lung will collapse when there is lung damage caused by
diseases such as cystic fibrosis, pneumonia, or asthma. A direct lung or chest injury
is not always the cause. Lung collapse is especially common when the lungs fill up
with air sacs that form, due to emphysema, and these air sacs are called blebs. The
lung collapses when air is discharged into the pleural cavity after one of the sacs
splits open. It is also possible that an unprompted pneumothorax can develop in a
person who has no evident lung disease, although it is most frequent in men
between 20 and 40 years of age who are tall and thin. It is also more frequent in
smokers. In addition, an unprompted pneumothorax can occur in some people who
have no obvious lung disease but have blebs that may burst ( Pneumothorax, 2008).
It is common in most pneumothorax cases for some air to move in and out through
the lung or chest wall tear. However, if the air is only able to move into the chest
cavity and not out, a tension pneumothorax condition can happen. This is when a
developing pocket of air produces escalating pressure within the pleural cavity, and
this, in turn, may cause total collapse of the
Life Is Beautiful Movie
Movies play a huge role in our history. Fact based or fictional, realistic or fantastic,
history movies shape the way people think about the past (Metzger). Some
examples of great historical films are Hidden Figures, Forrest Gump, Gandhi, and
Dances with Wolves. Although these films provided a glimpse of the past, no
other movie was as artistic as the film Life is Beautiful . The movie was a fairytale
trapped in a historical period filled with misery and survival, which was why I chose
it. Life is Beautiful is a wonderful masterpiece that provides a glimpse of the
Holocaustand the indomitability of humanity even in the midst of inhumanity.
The film was set in the late 1930s of Arezzo, Italy. The main character, Guido
(Roberto Benigni), is an enthusiastic Jewish Italian man who moved to the city to
open a bookstore and help his uncle, Eliseo (Giustino Durano), in his Grand Hotel.
While Guido is in the city he encounters a non Jewish Italian woman named Dora
(Nicoletta Braschi), who he falls in love with and uses his charm to win her over.
The first half of the movie hosted a series of events that demonstrated what an
extraordinary character Guido was that not only did Dora fall in love with but the
audience did as well. At Dora s engagement ceremony, Guido whisked her away on
a green horse ensuring that they will live together happily. Eventually, they have a
son named Giosue (Giorgio Cantarini) together. However, their blissful life is
interrupted by World War II and the declaration of racial laws. The second half of
the movie hosted a series of sacrificial events by Guido and Dora. On Giosue fifth
birthday, he was taken away with his father and uncle to a concentration camp.
Dora, refusing to be left behind, sacrifice herself by insisting to go to the camp as
well. While in the concentration camp Guido made sacrifices to protect his son
from the vile truth, by turning their situation into a game, and he also made
sacrifices to ensure his wife that he and Giosue were okay. In order to keep his son
interested in the game, Guido told Giosue that the grand prize was a tank. Ironically,
at the end of the film, an American tank coincidently came to save Giosue. The film

Food Security In Columbus City
For numerous amounts of people, fruits and vegetables may take a backseat to other
foods such as junk food, but for many these healthy food choices are just not options.
This is a very widespread issue that has swept the nation and the individual cities that
formulate it. In particular, the lack of foodsecurity in Columbus, Ohio has had
devastating effects for many residents, especially those who live in rural areas and
the many underserved communities. These effects include being more prone to
chronic diseases and unhealthy Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements. For adults
Twenty five percent of Franklin County, Ohio, adults say they don t eat five
servings of foods and vegetables each day (NLC). The residents of Columbus City

Elizabethan England Women
The Elizabeth era is a unique period in Western European history as it is
characterized by a woman being in a charge of a successful reign. During Queen
Elizabeth s monarchy, Renaissance became more widespread and more of the
nobility became educated in a humanist manner. Also, because Protestantism was the
official religion of the reign, more men of lower scales received an education as
well. William Shakespeare was one of those men. Theatre hit a hit point during
Elizabethan England and Shakespeare wrote many plays, including As You Like It.
Although the play is a comedy, many aspects from the story reflect trends of the
England s Elizabethan period. Within the theme of education in the nobility, the girls
Rosalind and Celia are highly educated.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oliver plots to kill Orlando and Duke Frederick steals the throne from Duke Senior,
while in real life England, her cousin Mary queen of Scots plots to kill Elizabeth
and take her place in the throne. Spielvogel says that during her years of house

intended to kill the Queen and restore Catholicism in an England led by Mary
herself (397). On the other hand, Orlando s loyalty and care for Adam in the forest
and the risking of his life to save his brother Oliver from a lioness can be compared
to Elizabeth s loyalty to her people, her throne, and all it represented. Spielvogel

Textual Analysis Of Girl
Girl Shifts Your Perspective in More Ways Than One
Girl provides a brief glimpse into the daily life of a homeless woman.
Almost every film you ll ever watch in your life will be shot with a similar aspect
ratio, with the frame being around twice as long as it is tall. With minor variances
due to wide screen or cinemascope or a particularly bold director, the vast majority
of films will use nearly the same aspect ratio, and after seeing that setup in film after
film year after year, it just feels comfortable now. Our televisions are set designed
for this aspect ratio. Out computer monitors. Our portable gaming devices screens.
Even our phones are designed with this ratio in mind.. Which is what makes the
fact that Megan K. Fox s Girl employs the exact opposite aspect ratio, one where the
frame is twice as tall as it is wide, impossible to miss. ... Show more content on

As the film progresses, it becomes clear that this feeling is intentional, forcing the
viewer feel what the Girl, a homeless woman who feels trapped in her situation, is
feeling. The aspect ratio, coupled with the fact that the Girl is framed in the same
way in nearly every shot throughout the film, creates the feeling that no matter how
far into the film the viewer is, or whatever setting the Girl is placed into, she is
ultimately in the same spot. The choice to use such a unique aspect ratio is incredibly
bold, but ultimately serves perfectly to create the feeling that the film aims to create

Symbolism In The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz
In 1900, L. Frank Baum authored the famed The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book.
This was followed by being produced as a Broadway musical in 1902, and the
motion picture release in 1939 (Zwissler, 2014). The popularity of this story is
nearly unfathomable. According to the Library of Congress (1992), The Wonderful
Wizard of Ozis the most watched film in motion picture history (in Zwissler, 2014).
Scalise Sugiyama and Sugiyama (2011) suggest that stories such as these
originated as oral warnings and eventually became literary warnings, followed by
sharing similar warnings in a film. Although this may be true for some stories, The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz used symbolism to tell a story of the time period, instead of

The munchkins may have represented the average citizen, as they were small and
described as busy workers but having minimal influence in the story. The Tinman may
have represented American industrial workers who were degraded by the Robber
Barons in the late nineteenth century and early years of the twentieth century.
Although the book was written much earlier, the movie debuted at the end of the
Great Depression. The Cowardly Lion may have represented some of the week
politicians during the period. History reveals that many politicians, of the time, were
controlled by big industry, and those who were not corrupt, were often powerless to
enact need changes. The Wicked Witches of the East and West may have represented
eastern business and the western industrialists, while the Good Witches of the North
and South may have represented the northern industrial workers and the southern
farmers. The flying monkeys may have represented Native American Indians. In the
story, Dorothy is told that the monkeys were once free and lived happily on the land
until Oz took control of the land. Oz may have represented the U.S. government,
while the Wizard may have represented the U.S.
Analysis Of Gwen Harwood s Anthology Of Selected Poems
The notion that ordinary, everyday experiences encompass universal emotions of
both sadness and delight is central to Gwen Harwood s anthology of Selected
Poems. This Australian poet often uses her personal journey towards self knowledge
and experience of growing up to comment on universal aspects of raw, uncensored
life experiences. She aims to convey the idea that motherhood is a difficult
experience for many women who resent the way they are forced to abandon their
individuality and careers. Harwood also illustrates the sadness in the lossof innocence
and regrets in childhood. However, she also reminds the audience of the importance of
celebrating the richness and vitality of humanlife such as the importance and power of
women and parenthood. Ultimately the collection also suggests that aspects of both
sadness and delight are evident in every human experience.
Harwood s works challenge the patriarchal, societal view of motherhood as a role of
delight, joy and fulfillment, revealing the hollow façade of meaningless that often
comes with domestic suburban roles. She explores the role of women in her
contemporary Australian society, criticising and challenging the expectations that
women must be restricted to the domestic sphere in this patriarchal society. Harwood
s graphic description and evocative imagery conveys the hopelessness of many
women. Home of Mercy explores how females are dehumanized as the pregnant,
unmarried girls have sinned in the eyes of society and

Why babyhood rather than childhood?
The case that I want to make is that babyhood is much more important to our lives
than many people realise. A lot of the behaviour that worries us in later childhood,
such as aggression, hyperactivity, obesity, depression and poor school performance,
has already been shaped by children s experiences in babyhood. For those of you who

The over riding importance of early conditions
The strange fact is that very often the early conditions of our lives have a profound
impact on the whole of our development. Let me start by describing how this works
with regard to the body and physical health, which might seem more obvious,
because we can see that nutrition affects the body. The body grows or it does not. It

Stock Car Auto Racing
Despite a relatively recent downturn in popularity, NASCAR, standing for the
Nation Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, is still going strong. With a fan
base around 75 million, the sport (ironically) isn t going anywhere in a hurry... but
their fuel is. Sunoco, which has provided NASCAR with top quality racing fuel
since 2004, made 2011 the first year that NASCAR started using green fuel, both
literally and figuratively speaking. Despite concerns raised over performance
Sunoco s Green E15 formula has received rave reviews. Although the fuel itself is
not comprised of 100% renewable or ecofriendly resources, the 15% ethanol content
of the fuel is enough to reduce race car carbon emissions by 20%, not to mention a 9
12 increase in horsepower! While these figures may not sound all that impressive, it
may help to consider that NASCAR has, at 9 months annually, the longest running
season of any sport, and that makes for a lot of driving. Furthermore, it is the
increase in horsepower, more than the carbon emissions reduction, which is really
important here. It is tangible proof that going green doesn t mean... Show more

Following the massive success of Green E15, NASCAR announced that the

nationwide were roughly 50% more likely to support the use of ethanol as a fuel
source, even in their own vehicles! And their fuel isn t the only thing they re willing
to turn green, the study went on to find that the fan base is also 100% more likely to
report their households as being green . Encouraged by this triumph, NASCAR has
now also established a substantial tree planting program and a solar powered

Persuasive Essay On Gifted Education
There are many debates going around about gifted education. Should we fund it?
Should we not? Should we support it, or shouldn t we? Many articles that I ve read
are on both sides. Everyone has their own opinion to whether or not we should
support it. But in my opinion I think we should support both sides of the education
system, the low achieving and the higher achieving students. Gifted educationclasses
can help students challenge themselves and their peers around them. In article one,
America s Future Depends on Gifted Students, they believe that we should support
gifted education programs. I highly agree with the statement, Insisting that gifted
children will be fine if we cut these programs is a disservice to these children and a...

I believe that segregation and gifted education are complete polar opposites and
should not be compared at all. Although, it states that there is an abundance of case
study evidence across geography, grade level and demography demonstrating that
low achieving students perform better and high achieving students perform no
worse when all students are exposed to a high level curriculum. High achieving
students perform no worse because they are still not being challenged by higher
curriculum like the low achieving students. If they were placed in a higher, separate
class than low achieving students, they would be able to be challenged in ways that
they never have been before. In article three, Tracking Students By Ability Produces
Results, they discovered that high ability students benefit the most from high ability
peers. Also, an experiment in Kenya proved that grouping students into classrooms
based on prior achievement benefits all students. I do believe that placing students
in classrooms with peers of similar ability is all around better. It is better because
they can all challenge each other and they are all exposed to a much higher education
than students with lower achieving capabilities. I believe if students know that they
are gifted they will try and not pursue and challenge themselves. On the other hand,
students who are chosen by lottery into gifted education programs will challenge
themselves to be like their other higher
Two Kinds of Interpretations in Amy Tanв
Ђ™s Short Story

Often times mothers can be pushy, annoying, and a bit overbearing but in the long
run they always just want what is best for their child. Everyone wants their child to
be the best, most popular and overall number one. In Amy Tan s short story Two
Kinds we see this type of fame hungry mother. The short story is about a Chinese
familywho lost everything. The motherhad lost her entire family full of children
except for the one in the story. With the belief you could be anything you want in
America (Tan 305) in mind the mother set off to find what her child can do. This
ultimately will resort in disappointment for both the mother and child, as they do not
share the same goals throughout the short story. My initial personal interpretation of
this piece is that the mother wants to live vicariously through her daughter. This was
proven throughout the story time and time again. Through further thought, different
literary techniques, and class discussion I became aware of an alternate interpretation
of the story. This is that their are two kinds of daughters and the way the mother
daughter relationship could be. Both interpretations have many examples to support
them and the story can truly be analyzed in more then one way. The mother in the
story is sensibly upset about what has happened in the past in China. After losing
everything she wanted the best for her daughter, but could this possibly mean she
wanted it for herself as well. It seems the mother might have
Tokugawa Shogunate Research Paper
Introduction
The Tokugawa shogunate was a very important and stable government in Japanese
history. It was the connection of the feudalism and capitalism of Japan. For over
two hundred years, challenges to Tokugawa authority were few, and this era was
known as the time of Great Peace. In general, its appearance for the populace was
grateful, because of a period of freedom from the warfare marked Sengoku, from the
middle of 15th century to the end of 16th century. During that period, the chain of
islands that makes up Japan was ruled by samurai and warlords. During the late
sixteenth century Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and finally Tokugawa Ieyasu
took power in succession and finally united the whole Japan. However, the success of

In the beginning of Tokugawa shogunate, the government announced this policy.
Although, self fettered is not a sensible policy for the developing of a country.
Because of the isolation between Japan and outside world, there was a large gap
was generated on the technical field, and this led the Black Ship s event to a certain
extent, and Japan was forced to sign unequal contracts with European countries.
However, this policy was not so useless at that time, and at least it could help
Tokugawa shogunate rule most populace.
On one hand, in the early Tokugawa Shogunate, Ieyasu cut off the new thoughts
getting into Japan to influence his governing. He had written some letters to the
leaders of other countries to reject their thoughts or religions, such as Mexico and
Philippines, and emphasized that Shinkoku and Buddhism were the only religions in
Japan. From this, we can see that even though he united Japan, people with new
thoughts could still shake his rule. For a ruler, people without any disagreement
would be easier to control than the people with innovation, and it was clear that
Ieyasu tried his best to avoid the latter
Analysis Of The Lady Of Shalott
In the story by Alfred Tennyson, The Lady of Shalott the story is about a fairy who
is isolated from the outside world in a tower. In a mythical and fairytale like setting,
the author uses imagery and the Lady Shalott s character to explain the underlying
message to his readers. The message of this story is the importance of one s identity
seen in the world. The author explains this aspect through the isolation of Lady
Shalott to show that love and affection is needed to enhance this identity. We as
readers are introduced early on to whom Lady Shalott really is and what her
environment is like. The author describes the island of Shalott dividing Lady
Shalott s world of her tower on one side of the river and another area of land on the
other; the river keeping these areas apart. The author emphasizes that the Lady of
Shalott is unknown to society by stating, But who hath seen her wave her hand?
Thus, we can see that the Lady of Shalott is isolated in a tower being basically
nonexistent to others. Through looking outside her window, she can see some
shadows. Lady Shalott states, I am half sick of shadows to emphasize to the reader
that she enjoys seeing someone else, however, haven t been physically interacted
with one before. These aspects of the Lady of Shalott s environment are crucial
and impactful to this aspect of loneliness on identity. Tennyson states that the Lady
of Shalott is a fairy who weaves webs during her time in the tower. The author uses
this mythical character of a fairy due to their stereotypes. Such include a very
dainty and sometimes ditsy fairytale like creature. The ideas of being ditsy can
come from the fairies in Sleeping Beauty. The author uses this dainty and ditsy
character to show the Lady of Shalott being unaware of the outside world because of
her isolation. The author also mentions that the Lady of Shalott has an unknown
curse put upon her. Without going into much detail, the author states how this curse
is unknown to herself. This curse could possibly be an aspect of her own self.
Because of Lady Shalott s isolation, she is unaware of what the outside world is like.
Thus, her mindset up this curse upon herself is due to unknown aspects of life. Going

Leadership Reflection On Leadership And Leadership
Leadership Reflection
Vincent E. M. Panuccio
COM 610 Leadership
Due: Dec 13, 2014
I ve learned that there is no one leader in any team. There are many different things
that someone can do within a team to be a leader and show their leadership skills.
To me leadership is when someone in a team passes along knowledge or skills to
someone else in the team. This knowledge or skill passed along must be beneficial
and must be new knowledge and a new experience for the person being led. Anyone
can be a leader if given the right resources. This belief has really shown me that it is
a lot easier to be a leader than I had once thought. You don t have to be the one in
charge or the one with the most power to be a leader. There is usually more than one
leader in every team. It is easier to have people who are different in a team because it
makes it easier for everyone to showcase their skills and show their leadership. My
thought process about leadership now, is fairly different than what I had thought
at the beginning of this semester. I still do believe in some of my original beliefs,
but I now understand more what it is to show leadership and actually be a leader.
At the beginning of the semester we answered the question, What is leadership? I
wrote, Being able to have others follow you in a respectable way. Guiding other to
help them achieve a goal(s). Some qualities I wrote down about a leadership were:
equality, and being able to follow

such programs. For nearly all employees, these programs send a message about how
much the organization cares about its employees. Having these programs is seen as
a positive even by employees who do not use them (Stewart, 2012). Then you have
performance and recognition companies are now finding ways to reward employees
for their hard work, motivation and time. They are creating different types of plans
and incentives to continue to keep that exceptional behavior. Some things that
companies are doing are giving bonus, and incentives like gift cards, free lunch and
gifts. They want to continue to challenge the employees to do their best so that in
return it will provide better products and services. When you have better product

Martin Luther King Jr. s Letter From Birmingham Jail
During the time Martin Luther King Jr. wrote Letter from Birmingham Jail April
16, 1963, while he was in the Birmingham City Jail in Birmingham, Alabama, the
world King lived was different form today. A world where blacks and whites where
segregated from everything around them. The people of color were treated
unequally. The laws during the time was unjustified. The treatment towards the
people of color were brutal and very different than the world today. When King
wrote the letter, he was in the jail cell because he was arrested for participating in
the nonviolent direct action program march against segregation and he did not
have a permit. In Kings letter, he was defending his nonviolent direct action for
segregation to the white clergymen and declaring that the law was unjustified for
the people of color. In Kings letter, he uses words and analogies that make him
seem like he is talking directly to the white clergy men and that he is talking to
them as an equal, respecting the reader and not talking down to them, therefore
making his letter seem more positive so the person who received and read his letter
seem more interested and opened minded. He starts by explaining that he was not
intruding but he was invited to the non violent march against segregation. King was
arrested for being an outsider of the City of Birmingham. He writes to the clergymen
saying since you have been influenced by the view which argues against outsiders
coming in (King, 1963). However,

The US dominates most of the Cott s sales for 2004. This could be a disadvantage
for Cott since they rely heavily on their sales from only one region. They should be
aware of this vulnerability and take steps to mitigate this disadvantage.

Other than financial factors, Cott would also need to consider factors beyond number

Annie John By Jamaica Kincaid
Annie John by Jamaica Kincaid was written in 1985. The book takes place in the
setting Antigua, an island in the Caribbean around the 1950 s. The main characters
are Annie John, Annie s mother, Ma Chess, and the Red Girl the foil character.
Annie has many flaws however that makes her all the more human and believable
as a character. Annie s mother increasingly becomes an antagonist to Annie, because
of their opposing views as Annie s growing up into adulthood. Annie s grandmother
Ma Chess plays a small but significant role in the novel, her presence is silent,
however when she does appear she is seen as a saviour. She essentially represents the
knowledge and wisdom and guides Annie and Annie s mother to healing. Lastly the

The mother daughter relationship drives the plot in Annie John and is its primary
theme. Kincaid paints Annie s desire to remain united with her mother as an emotion
shared by most girls of her age. Therefore it connects to the coming of age theme in
the sense that when Annie befriends other girls it represent the substitution for the
maternal love that appears to be dissipating in Annie s life. Motifs such as water
through the novel as a powerful natural force that helps to both heal and transform.
The rainstorm that persists during Annie s illness cleanses and transforms the island
while providing a nourishing environment for her to recover. Finally, the ocean
allows for Annie s ultimate rebirth by pushing her on her way toward a new life in
England. Jamaica Kincaid through Annie John uses powerful imagery that is
colorful and descriptive. Kincaid s prose style reveals her heavy use of specific
details that conjure colors and textures of her native island. This brings specificity
that continues throughout the novel and contribute to its visual richness. Jamaica
Kincaid additionally writes in a reflective, nostalgic, and sentimental tone. As
Annie John grows up puts many things from her life in retrospect. Annie, is
remembering moments of childhood as an adult. She says I don t know why
seeing that [barge] struck me so, but suddenly a wave of strong feeling came over
me, and my heart swelled with a great gladness as the words I shall never see this
again spilled out inside me. But then, just as quickly, my heart shriveled up and the
words I shall never see this again stabbed at me. I don t know what stopped me from
falling in a heap at my parents feet (Kincaid 84). The tone here is evidently reflective,
nostalgic and sentimental, especially when she recalls early moments of happy
existence with her mother. How important I felt to be with my mother

But everything, including the headband is made of plastic. Even the gilded ear cups
and screws in the brass turns out to be plastic. And the question is how long the
headphones survive to be used as hard as they look. Already during the test began
leatherette ear cushions that look a little worn out.

With this kind of appearance can expect a club sound heavy bass. And it delivers
SHX50. The bass is powerful and relatively deep, and you feel the rhythm in your
head clear. The other tonregistren, however, may find themselves living on the base
conditions. The midrange and treble are trapped subdued. The song Boat on the
River is normally full of mandolin and guitar tones. But in SHX50 sounds like Styx
playing inside a crowded closet. The sound is unfortunately not very clean.
Conclusion
Philips SHX50 is a pair of headphones to choose their audiences with care. Like the
design and the built in light show so appreciate you certainly also the strong base.
However, if you are just looking for sound quality, it s more of the others that have
more to offer for the money.

could have immediate negative effects on young children s cognitive function
including self regulation and working memory (Lillard and Peterson, 2011).
Therefore, watching cartoons is not a good idea to entertain children. There is
increased concern that increased exposure to television has a negative impact on the
cognitive development of a child. It has been linked to late language development and
the development of attention disorders (Landhuis, Poulton, Welch Hancox, 2007). A
majority of studies conducted on the impact of television have not compared different
types of content.
According to the CDC, the number of children getting ADHD is rising rapidly
(CDC, 2015). Correspondingly, research has indicated that there is an increasing
number of children watching cartoons such as SpongeBob , Bob s burgers and The
Simpsons. Most of the parents are extremely worried about the impact of the content
that their children watch on television because of warning from research findings.
They are also worried about the children live action shows such as Kid Nation,
Sesame Street and Teletubbies ?
In our study, we are going to test if the live action

  • 1. Obesity Argumentative Essay Writing an essay on the topic of obesity can be both challenging and thought-provoking. This issue is multifaceted, encompassing various aspects such as societal norms, personal choices, genetic predispositions, and the influence of the food industry. Crafting an argumentative essay requires a thorough understanding of the subject, backed by credible research and data. One of the difficulties lies in presenting a balanced perspective. Addressing the complexities of obesity without oversimplifying the causes or stigmatizing individuals requires a nuanced approach. Additionally, navigating through the vast array of available information and studies to extract relevant and reliable data can be time-consuming. The argumentative nature of the essay adds another layer of complexity. It demands the writer to articulate a clear stance, supported by evidence and logical reasoning, while acknowledging counterarguments. Striking the right balance between emotion and rationality is crucial, as obesity is not just a medical condition but often carries social and psychological implications. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the topic requires careful consideration of language to avoid perpetuating stereotypes or shaming individuals struggling with obesity. It's important to foster a constructive dialogue that encourages understanding and empathy rather than promoting judgment. In conclusion, composing an argumentative essay on obesity necessitates meticulous research, a nuanced perspective, and the ability to present a compelling argument without disregarding the complexity and sensitivity of the issue. Comparing Dante s Inferno And Virgil s The Aeneid There are many similarities between Dante s The Inferno and Virgil s The Aeneid, be it their characterizations or descriptive imagery, but foremost in their ideas of what the afterlife consisted of. Each each epic hero in the works here have descended in to the depths of hell, with The Inferno depicting Dante s descent into the depths of helland with Virgilin Book VI of The Aeneiddepicting Aeneas s decent into hell. It can be argued that although different, the knowledge acquired by each character s descent was equally important to accomplishing their greater tasks at the ends of their journey. Had their descent into hell been skipped their outcomes would have concluded in a different way because their voyages to Hell each played a crucial role in the advancing each narrative. The Aeneid is a grand chronicle that charts Aeneas obstacles versus his accomplishments. Aeneas s accomplishments entail escaping Juno s wrath; leaving and finding love; and losing loved ones in war. Against all odds, Aeneas continued to achieve victory over all his potential downfalls. With some divine assistance, Aeneas continued to achieve victory over all his potential downfalls. These people become psychologically affected through living on a battleground, and in a life altering way. Just then it starts raining and everything gets washed away: not even a trace of the young guy is left, nor a trace of the canister. Just water. As if nothing on the street changed, except everyone got just a bit quieter(11). This is almost the exact scene from The Cellist(Galloway 159 163) in which afterward Kenan is quiet, as are the people in the poem, but he also is in such shock from the tragedy that he pays no attention to the water that spills (165) and is careless, likely beginning to show this change in personality after the gore he has witnesses. This later translates into him feeling detached [and] unconcerned about others (Reactions after trauma), seen when he decides to leave Mrs. Ristovski s water behind in the war zone. Kenan has full intent of going back over the bridge a second time to retrieve her water, but spur of the moment He turns away, and picks up the rope binding his own bottles (Galloway 171). The caring and helpful nature observed earlier shies away after living the crimes being committed against his people, which can be viewed as an effect of the bombing, as before that had happened or set in he had full intentions to bring water back for his neighbour. Kenan is of the unlucky who must venture out of their houses and face this reality multiple times a week, while opposite that is Dragan and Emina, who have personal reasons to subject themselves to the gore. Tides, waves and currents are what help form coastlines. However, when waves meet or crash on the shore, they erode the land, leaving behind tiny parts of the sea such as shells, seaweed and marine life. Although, over the past 30 years central beaches are continually eroding because sand is pushed along the coastby waves. This mass of land was mainly above sea level, which began to change due to the tertiary period because of extreme climates and erosion. (Department for environmental heritage and Aboriginal Affairs, n.d) The separation of the continents occurred along the continent that is now known as the southern boundary. For example, the St Vincent basin which is located north/south of Australia was dramatically changed and formed step able rocks, and the Adelaide hills were also formed. Sea levels were also dramatically sunken 120 meters below the average level than what sea levels show today. In the 21st century the movements still exist and happen daily, however, that are at a very slow rate.

London Is The Most Eclectic Megalopolis Of The West Unusually, I was a late subscriber to the idea of observing deeply into the capital s wonders; London is possibly the most eclectic megalopolis of the West, it stirs ambition like no other place, in some professional sectors it s like swimming against the tide if you re not registered in London. Realistically for me, it probably was six years ago, when I took note of what London urbanity offers, before then, I was probably too busy, fatigued and self orientated to allow London a laborious thought in the early noughties; I recall, it took a nudge from famous authors who resided in the capital, such as Iain Sinclair, J.G. Ballard and Hanif Kureishi, to name a few, who systematically embraced the capitalwithin their creative works. Their savoir faire wordage spurred me on to experience London with fresh eyes; I owe much to their observations, they introduced me to London s identities just enough, so you can muster your own observations and prose. The process was like peering through a keyhole at collective humanism entirely unique to the voyeur. For London truly is a collaboration of creativity and creed, to state the City has one identity stroke congruence is veraciously wrong. London is that versatile, it has a plethora of characteristics, rich in detail, purpose and belonging; why everyone has an opinion whatever the experience, London demands respect. In 1977, the House of Commons passed Bill C 51, establishing new kinds of gun ownership permits called firearms acquisition certificates, which increased barriers to access by requiring applicants to pass background checks. The movement for stronger and more effective gun control was reinvigorated a decade later in the aftermath of the worst shooting incident in Canadian history: the Montreal Massacre. On December 6, 1989, twenty five year old Marc LГ©pine took a sixty student engineering classroom hostage at Г‰cole Polytechnique with a legally obtained Mini 14 hunting rifle. Expressing anti feminist sentiments, he allowed fifty male students to safely exit the room before turning his gun on the remaining nine women, killing six and wounding three. LГ©pine then continued his carnage in the school s corridors, cafeteria, classrooms and offices, killing fourteen women in total and injuring another fourteen people, including four men. Over the next few years, public appeals for stricter gun control regulations grew increasingly forceful, culminating in the 1995 Firearms Act, or Bill C 68. The Firearms Act codified Canada s gun control laws as they exist today. Specifically, it implemented a new federal licensing system, mandated the registration of all

There is a catch, however. More and more supermodels, like those who model for Victoria s Secret for example, have thin bodies, muscle tone, and larger chests. Many women have the tendency to idolize this figure and believe this is the way they should want to look in order to be considered sexy. Even the Barbie doll, for example, has unrealistic proportions that are simply physiologically impossible for any woman to have. These ideals are far too irrational for any woman to reach. On the other hand, more and more companies are making claims that larger, plus size women should also be viewed as beautiful or sexy, in attempts to make those who are larger than normal feel more comfortable in their own skins. It is also possible that an unprompted pneumothorax can develop in a person who has no evident lung disease, although it is most frequent in men between 20 and 40 years of age who are tall and thin. It is also more frequent in smokers. In addition, an unprompted pneumothorax can occur in some people who have no obvious lung disease but have blebs that may burst ( Pneumothorax, 2008). It is common in most pneumothorax cases for some air to move in and out through the lung or chest wall tear. However, if the air is only able to move into the chest cavity and not out, a tension pneumothorax condition can happen. This is when a developing pocket of air produces escalating pressure within the pleural cavity, and this, in turn, may cause total collapse of the
  • 24. Life Is Beautiful Movie Movies play a huge role in our history. Fact based or fictional, realistic or fantastic, history movies shape the way people think about the past (Metzger). Some examples of great historical films are Hidden Figures, Forrest Gump, Gandhi, and Dances with Wolves. Although these films provided a glimpse of the past, no other movie was as artistic as the film Life is Beautiful . The movie was a fairytale trapped in a historical period filled with misery and survival, which was why I chose it. Life is Beautiful is a wonderful masterpiece that provides a glimpse of the Holocaustand the indomitability of humanity even in the midst of inhumanity. The film was set in the late 1930s of Arezzo, Italy. The main character, Guido (Roberto Benigni), is an enthusiastic Jewish Italian man who moved to the city to open a bookstore and help his uncle, Eliseo (Giustino Durano), in his Grand Hotel. While Guido is in the city he encounters a non Jewish Italian woman named Dora (Nicoletta Braschi), who he falls in love with and uses his charm to win her over. The first half of the movie hosted a series of events that demonstrated what an extraordinary character Guido was that not only did Dora fall in love with but the audience did as well. At Dora s engagement ceremony, Guido whisked her away on a green horse ensuring that they will live together happily. Eventually, they have a son named Giosue (Giorgio Cantarini) together. However, their blissful life is interrupted by World War II and the declaration of racial laws. The second half of the movie hosted a series of sacrificial events by Guido and Dora. On Giosue fifth birthday, he was taken away with his father and uncle to a concentration camp. Dora, refusing to be left behind, sacrifice herself by insisting to go to the camp as well. While in the concentration camp Guido made sacrifices to protect his son from the vile truth, by turning their situation into a game, and he also made sacrifices to ensure his wife that he and Giosue were okay. In order to keep his son interested in the game, Guido told Giosue that the grand prize was a tank. Ironically, at the end of the film, an American tank coincidently came to save Giosue. The film writer/directed, Roberto Benigni,

During Queen Elizabeth s monarchy, Renaissance became more widespread and more of the nobility became educated in a humanist manner. Analysis Of Gwen Harwood s Anthology Of Selected Poems The notion that ordinary, everyday experiences encompass universal emotions of both sadness and delight is central to Gwen Harwood s anthology of Selected Poems. This Australian poet often uses her personal journey towards self knowledge and experience of growing up to comment on universal aspects of raw, uncensored life experiences. She aims to convey the idea that motherhood is a difficult experience for many women who resent the way they are forced to abandon their individuality and careers. Harwood also illustrates the sadness in the lossof innocence and regrets in childhood. However, she also reminds the audience of the importance of celebrating the richness and vitality of humanlife such as the importance and power of women and parenthood. Ultimately the collection also suggests that aspects of both sadness and delight are evident in every human experience. Harwood s works challenge the patriarchal, societal view of motherhood as a role of delight, joy and fulfillment, revealing the hollow façade of meaningless that often comes with domestic suburban roles. She explores the role of women in her contemporary Australian society, criticising and challenging the expectations that women must be restricted to the domestic sphere in this patriarchal society. Harwood s graphic description and evocative imagery conveys the hopelessness of many women. Home of Mercy explores how females are dehumanized as the pregnant, unmarried girls have sinned in the eyes of society and

The short story is about a Chinese familywho lost everything. The motherhad lost her entire family full of children except for the one in the story. With the belief you could be anything you want in America (Tan 305) in mind the mother set off to find what her child can do. This ultimately will resort in disappointment for both the mother and child, as they do not share the same goals throughout the short story. My initial personal interpretation of this piece is that the mother wants to live vicariously through her daughter. This was proven throughout the story time and time again. Through further thought, different literary techniques, and class discussion I became aware of an alternate interpretation of the story. This is that their are two kinds of daughters and the way the mother daughter relationship could be. Both interpretations have many examples to support them and the story can truly be analyzed in more then one way. The mother in the story is sensibly upset about what has happened in the past in China. After losing everything she wanted the best for her daughter, but could this possibly mean she wanted it for herself as well. It seems the mother might have

In general, its appearance for the populace was grateful, because of a period of freedom from the warfare marked Sengoku, from the middle of 15th century to the end of 16th century. During that period, the chain of islands that makes up Japan was ruled by samurai and warlords. • 36. Analysis Of The Lady Of Shalott In the story by Alfred Tennyson, The Lady of Shalott the story is about a fairy who is isolated from the outside world in a tower. In a mythical and fairytale like setting, the author uses imagery and the Lady Shalott s character to explain the underlying message to his readers. The message of this story is the importance of one s identity seen in the world. The author explains this aspect through the isolation of Lady Shalott to show that love and affection is needed to enhance this identity. We as readers are introduced early on to whom Lady Shalott really is and what her environment is like. The author describes the island of Shalott dividing Lady Shalott s world of her tower on one side of the river and another area of land on the other; the river keeping these areas apart. The author emphasizes that the Lady of Shalott is unknown to society by stating, But who hath seen her wave her hand? Thus, we can see that the Lady of Shalott is isolated in a tower being basically nonexistent to others. Through looking outside her window, she can see some shadows. Lady Shalott states, I am half sick of shadows to emphasize to the reader that she enjoys seeing someone else, however, haven t been physically interacted with one before. These aspects of the Lady of Shalott s environment are crucial and impactful to this aspect of loneliness on identity. Tennyson states that the Lady of Shalott is a fairy who weaves webs during her time in the tower. The author uses this mythical character of a fairy due to their stereotypes. Such include a very dainty and sometimes ditsy fairytale like creature. The ideas of being ditsy can come from the fairies in Sleeping Beauty. The author uses this dainty and ditsy character to show the Lady of Shalott being unaware of the outside world because of her isolation. The author also mentions that the Lady of Shalott has an unknown curse put upon her. Without going into much detail, the author states how this curse is unknown to herself. This curse could possibly be an aspect of her own self. Because of Lady Shalott s isolation, she is unaware of what the outside world is like. Thus, her mindset up this curse upon herself is due to unknown aspects of life. Going further into
  • 37. Leadership Reflection On Leadership And Leadership Leadership Reflection Vincent E. M. Panuccio COM 610 Leadership Due: Dec 13, 2014 I ve learned that there is no one leader in any team. There are many different things that someone can do within a team to be a leader and show their leadership skills. To me leadership is when someone in a team passes along knowledge or skills to someone else in the team. This knowledge or skill passed along must be beneficial and must be new knowledge and a new experience for the person being led. Anyone can be a leader if given the right resources. This belief has really shown me that it is a lot easier to be a leader than I had once thought. You don t have to be the one in charge or the one with the most power to be a leader. It is easier to have people who are different in a team because it makes it easier for everyone to showcase their skills and show their leadership. My thought process about leadership now, is fairly different than what I had thought at the beginning of this semester. I still do believe in some of my original beliefs, but I now understand more what it is to show leadership and actually be a leader.
