Psychology At Jefferson Center For Mental Health
Throughout this semester I completed an internship in psychology at Jefferson
Center for Mental Health. Specifically I spent my time in a short term Hospital
Alternative Facility (HAF). HAF is a residential facility that aids in transitioning
home from the hospital, another Jefferson Center for Mental Health facility or a
crisis situation. All of our clients have current mental health diagnoses, the most
common of which are depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders,
and schizophrenia. Clients stay for only a short time and the main objectives for
their stay normally revolve around stabilizing meds and finalizing housing and living
plans for the future. HAF provides services that are vital in that clients can have a
stable residence so they can focus on managing symptoms and figuring out the best
strategy to integrate themselves, with new goals back into their life. However, with
all of HAF s outstanding and vital qualities, there are also areas that I would suggest
for improvement given what I have learned through my undergraduate education in
psychology. My first critique stems from my exposure to both Psychopharmacology

military strength and their nuclear weapons. A number of stabilizing elements
assist the regime s efforts to maintain internal order. The society seems united in

The regime is not what determines liberty, but rather the laws that that regime
enacts. For Hobbes, every regime has one sovereign that is able to rule with
unlimited power. Even in a democracy, Hobbes argues that the electorate combines
to create one single sovereign and that power is not split equally among each voter.
As aforementioned, Hobbes does not argue that a regime can never infringe upon
the liberty of its citizens. He concedes that if a sovereign begins to enact an excess
of laws then there are some scenarios within which the overloading of laws could

Golding
The Nature of Man On the tail end of WWII, the world was in ruins, the allies had
won, but so much and so many had still been lost. It was a glimpse into the true
horror that men were capable of. Amidst bloodshed and suffering it is
understandable that William Golding would have great difficulty viewing men as
naturally good. He argues in his novel, The Lord of the Flies that men need rules
and society to keep peace and that if they were to leave that they would fall into
chaos, but his arguments are only proven through characters he has constructed. In
this debate as old as time itself, there have been others who would disagree with
Golding; others who have more faith in man s nature and less partiality to the
system created to keep man in check. It may be overly optimistic to view humans
as creatures that are wholly good, but if we are purely evil inside and all that holds
us back are the flimsy rules of a society we created, then it would be a near
impossibility for us to have survived this long. In the novel, the collapse of order on
the island is not immediate. The boys retain their English civility in the face of the
truly horrific catastrophe that is the plane crash that strands them there, but slowly
over the course of the narrative their moral conditioning wears away and they
become what Golding believes to be the true darkness present in all men. But what

The downfall of Enron also illustrates both the importance of corporate governance to
corporate performance, and the inherent susceptibility to corruption present in any
system of corporate governance. Further, from an international perspective, one is
tempted to ask whether the Enron debacle could happen in Europe or Japan or
whether it demonstrates a vulnerability unique to the U.S. system of corporate
governance. I have three observations to make on this issue. First and foremost, the
Enron fiasco demonstrates the acute pressure felt by U.S. corporate management to
produce superior performance results. As discussed later in this Article, Enron s
financial maneuvering, which led to the company s massive 2001 restatement of
earnings, was prompted only in 1997 when Enron came under significant pressure
from investors. Essentially, Enron s corporate performance was consistent for a
considerable period of time prior to 1997. 4 However, between 1996 and 1997, the
firm s profits and return on equity each declined by ninety percent. 5 The sudden
deterioration in performance pressured management to engage in transactions that
increased revenue and moved debt off of the firm s

criticizes religion, the military, and the philosophy of optimism.
Religious leaders are the targets of satire throughout Candide. Voltaire portrays the
religious clergy as men who use their positions to further their own causes. In
addition, the priests keep the less fortunate oppressed, so the clergy members can

Voltaire describes these men serving in the military as lost souls who have been
impressed into the service. Soldiers have no real alliance and usually fight on
whatever side they find themselves. Voltaire uses words to describe the war that
create the image of a melodious marching band at a New Year s parade. The story
calls war itself heroic butchery. Voltaire uses this oxymoron to express his belief that
war was nothing more than organized killing of human beings with no real purpose.
Of course, the idea that anything would happen with no real purpose is directly
opposing the theory of Optimism expressed by the character Pangloss. According to

The Metaphysical Realm of Garbage My volunteer experience at Howling Timbers
included cleaning and preparing meals for the animals using expired produce
donated from local grocery stores. My work started with sorting the new shipments of
goods into categories and rotating them with the old, molding fruits and vegetables
that would get used in the evening. During meal preparation, I cut off the fuzzy,
moldy, slimy, and decomposing parts of the fruit and vegetables and put the
salvageable portions into foodbins for the horses, pigs, donkeys and sugar gliders,
the scraps into a compost pile. I asked Brenda if larger corporations gave Howling
Timbers their expired produce and learned that the food donations at Howling
Timbers come from local grocery stores. Brenda explains to the managers at these
larger grocers that the food they receive is only for animal consumption. Still, they
deny her the food and dispose of their expired goods in the dumpster out of sight, out

The opening scene of the movie was Daniel Plainview in a almost completely dark
mine shaft. Him always being in shadows shows that he is a dark character. One of
the few times he is fully lit in the movie is when he is in Eli s church confessing
that he abandoned his child. The film mostly uses music in serious situations. The
beginning of the film there is no dialogue and no music at all. The character of
H.W Plainview was an indirect character because he didn t do much for himself.
He was a dynamic character because at the beginning he loved his father very
much, but at the end of the film he is trying to get away from him. A main trait of
his was staying quiet. He knew his father was ripping people off, but stayed and
acted a face for Daniel to buy land with. I did not like the film because the plot was
uninteresting to me and it was a dark film. The opening was very unclear, there
was no dialogue, and the viewer was made to guess what was happening. People who
like drama would probably enjoy the movie for the ending and the acting of Daniel

Leonardo Da Vinci is most famous for the Mona Lisa and his countless inventions.
He was many things, an inventor, an artist and a scientist. Here, we are going to
mostly talk about his artist side(Although, personally i would rather write about his
inventor side) His two most commonly known paintings were Mona Lisa and The
Last Supper . Two wonderful pieces of art by an amazing artist. he was born on
April 15 1452 in Vinci, Italy, died May 2 1519. He heavily influenced the
renaissance era and is still influencing us today.
At an early age, Leonardo da Vinci moved to Florence, where he apprenticed with the
painter and sculptor Verrochio. Da Vinci s brilliance was obvious even at this
early stage in his life. He often experimented with different artistic forms and
techniques. Being surrounded by Italian art, he often used oils in his paintings .
His work sparked a new style of art in Italy. In 1481, at the age of 30, da Vinci
moved to Milan to work for the Duke of Milan. Although relatively few of da Vinci
s paintings and sculptures survive, two of his extant works are among the world s
most well known and admired paintings. The first is da Vinci s The Last Supper,
painted during his time in Milan, from about 1495 to 1498. A oil mural on plaster,
