Big Brother Is Watching, And The Ministry Of Truth
While society today may be far from the controlling, deceitful, and corrupt atmosphere
described in 1984, many different inventions and innovations show that it could be
headed in that direction, or that it already contains concepts of it. The book describes
different familiar components such as a predominant Big Brother who is always
watching, newspeak , and the Ministry of Truth. These can be closely related to what
is seen in society today, with a controlling government, shortened words, and the
deceptive nature of the media through different radio and TV stations. A phrase very
often seen throughout the book is BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING . Through the
repetition of the statement, the audience is shown its importance and relevance in the
civilization that Winston lives in. Posters are found just about everywhere in Oceania
bearing this slogan. Big Brother s reach extends through the thought police, the
control over the disappearance of certain citizens, Telescreens, and the different
ministries present in their society. Big Brother is the most prominent influence in this
novel, controlling just about everything. This overseeing force of government
sounds strikingly familiar to the government of today s world. Everyday there are
new inventions surfacing that sacrifice privacy in exchange for a safer environment.
Similar to the Telescreens used by the thought police to watch citizens, facial

This book described the horrifying conditions in the stockyards and meatpacking
industry. The story depicts a young man and woman who have recently
immigrated to Chicago from Lithuania. They have a wedding feast at a bar in
Packingown. The couple and some of their relatives go to Chicago for a better life
but Packingtown, the center of the city s meatpacking industry, is dangerous,
filthy, and hard. It was also difficult to find a job. The couple become a hundred
dollars in debt to the saloonkeeper and Jurgis has faith in the American dream that
he could just work harder to make more money. They go through struggles with
hard laboring jobs such as digging freight tunnels (which resulting in him going to
the hospital), getting arrested because of attacking a man for not giving him
correct change, he starts to commit crimes such as burglaries and soon gets
recruited to work for a corrupt political boss. His spirit soon gets crushed by misery
and wanders into a socialist political rally which fills Jurgis with inspiration
through a speech. He finds a job as a porter at a socialist run hotel and later reunites
with wife. This story is filled with signs of corruption and immorality. A big symbol
in this story was the animals and slaughterhouses of Packingtown which represent the
working class. Just like the animals were killed with impunity, made to suffer and
had no choice about their fate, so were thousands of immigrant workers who lived in

Viruses are parasites using its host s cells to replicate its own genome (Freeman,
2011). Viruses have either a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA)
genome that affects its specific named genome. Types of RNA viruses include
positive strand, negative strand, double strand and RNA transcriptase. RNAviruses
have evolved into effective pathogens that mutate at high rates. This allows them an
advantage over their host to effectively evade the immune systemthrough several
mechanisms, such as mimicry, avoiding cell lysis, and phagocytosis. Their ability
to bypass a cell s normal process of proof reading and error correction is what
makes RNA viruses such effective pathogens. Almost all RNA viruses are termed

This visual analysis will discuss the 1975 photograph Untitled , shot by William
Eggleston, and its relation to his broader canon of work and the larger context of
American photography.
Brought up in a wealthy family, William Eggleston bought his first camera, in 1957
and switched from monochrome to colour in 1965. His use of colour was
innovative which led his work to welcome controversial remarks. Henri Cartier
Bresson once remarked to him at a dinner party in Paris: William, colour is bullshit ,
to which the American photographer replied, Excuse me, and left the table. I thought
it was the most polite thing to do.
Untitled is freighted with untold stories. You feel the gentle breeze along with the
heat of the day; the stale grass; the mute mutterings of the wind; and that moment
smothered under the weight of its sheer lassitude. This portrait is somewhat less of a
person or place but more of a single moment in time. He never has diminished what he
sees but somehow enlarges both the trivial and the momentous. By supposing that
photography is at its most vibrant when it seeks to understand not just a setting, but a

Pregnancyin adolescence have been associated with a variety of poor maternal and
infant outcomes. Health risks to teens and their infants include low birth weight, risk
of prematurity, developmental delays, and poor prenatal weight gain. The antenatal
and postpartum social risks include depression, substance abuse, homelessness, child
maltreatment, reliance on public assistance, lack of education, and domestic abuse
(Bensussen Walls Saewyc, 2001).
Adolescence is a time of major cognitive, social, and physical changes. Parenthood
