My Accurate Sci Fi Story
John (Jack) Brugato
ESS 102 AH
Research Paper Rough Draft
4/10/17
Space Debris My scientifically accurate sci fi story will focus on astronauts tasked with aiding in
the clean up of space debris. The story will take place not too far in the future, in a time where
space debris is creating problems for NASA and other space programs. Space debris is proving to be
too dangerous and has resulted in numerous failed missions and destroyed unmanned spacecraft.
The purpose of clearing out the space debris is because NASA discovered a planet that had
promising signs of life and is sending other probes and unmanned spacecraft to investigate further.
What is Space Debris? One issue with space travel has to do with the debris that is ... Show more

The Kessler Syndrome was brought to light in 2009 when the Iridium 33, a United States satellite,
was struck by the Cosmos 2251, an unused Russian satellite. Due to Kepler s laws of orbital
motion and the objects being as close they were to Earth s gravitational pull, the two satellites
collided at about five miles per second (Parker, greeniacs.com). The result of the collision proves
Kessler s concerns, as a cloud of thousands of pieces of broken equipment and satellite parts was
created, which is now in Earth s orbit. The true danger of space debris relies in the speed of each
piece. Since each piece travels at around four to five miles per second, smaller pieces could be
catastrophic towards future missions (Dunbar, nasa.gov). One such case of debris causing damage
comes through the missions STS 50 to STS 114. Over the span of these 54 missions, debris and
meteoroids hit the windows of the shuttles about 1600 times, resulting in 92 replacements
(Madrigal, wired.com). The shuttles radiators have also been hit a number of times, leaving holes
in the facesheet. One instance in particular occurred when a 100 micron sized particle hit the
window of the STS 50, causing a one millimeter crater (Whitlock, nasa.gov). These instances show
how dangerous even the smallest particles can be for spacecraft.
How is it tracked? Space debris is not going unnoticed however. NASA and the Department of
Defense are tracking

The Effects Of Cognitive Distance On Our Lives
Everyone loves taking a vacation to a dream destination. What used to be a far away drive, is
now within hours away. Today people go over a hundred miles to see family members for a
couple of days; where as back in time people would think that is an outrageous travel just for a
couple days. Our grandparents lifestyle of growing up is completely different than the lifestyle we
are living in present day. Cognitive distance is the distance people perceive to exist. Cognitive
distance is shrinking, the world may seem smaller due to technologyadvances within communication
, faster accessibility, and the different lifestyle of civilization.Throughout the years as a world we
have experienced technology advancements within communication, from replacing telegrams with
telephones to the spread of the internet. When we wanted to talk to someone we would have to
write them a letter, pay for postage and send it in the mail. This would take a couple of days to
get to them, an you would not know if it was successfully delivered. Now we can communicate
with another person within seconds, we do not have to write a letter or pay for postage. All we
have to do is send a real quick text message to them or email them. They will get it within a
couple seconds. You could possibly send a message to someone in another county, state and
country and you do not have to wait for days, months or years for them to reply. Mindi Orth wrote

Technology Addiction Essay
Technology addiction is perceived as a major problem by the majority of American parents. In
Bergman s Don t Limit Your Teen s Screen Time , Bergman uses his personal experience as both a
parent and as an avid technology user to justify his argument that screen time limits have negative
effects on children. On the other hand, in Boyd s Blame Society, Not the Screen Time , Boyd
blames the American Education system, and parents for technologyaddiction in children, and
proposes that children should have less pressure and more free time to spend with their friends.
While Bergman utilizes his past and current experiences with technology to craft a clear argument
against technology, Boyd creates a stronger argument by drawing on her years of... Show more

While games like minecraft, and applications like photoshop may allow children to flourish, it is
not the mindless, violent entertainment most parents worry about. By conveniently ignoring the
concerns of his audience, Bergman creates a divide, tremendously hurting his argument. Bergman
states that limiting screen time only fuels covert binging, (Bergman). To test his theory, Bergman
stopped restricting [his] children s screen time in [his] house, and immediately saw results
(Bergman). This one time experiment doesn t come close to the years of experience that Boyd
reflects upon.
Unlike Bergman, Boyd uses strong claims, and a variety of evidence to support her argument. Boyd
reasons that since children have limited freedom and are given busy schedules, they are unable to
socialize with their peers. Boyd cites much higher levels of concern about technology addiction in
countries where there s even greater pressure to succeed and fewer social opportunities (Boyd).
Countries that pressure their children to succeed by loading their schedule with work typically
have high levels of technology addiction, and the inverse is true for countries that focus on student
happiness. Boyd notes that Finland and the Netherlands consistently outperform the U.S. in school,
and they emphasize student happiness, assigning no homework (Boyd). Not only does this
approach increase test grades, it also correlates to parents being less anxious about technology

The White Slave Trade By Emma Goldman
One of Comstock s targets was Emma Goldman, whom he unsuccessfully tried to have imprisoned
for her unconventional writings about the white slave trade. Indeed, Goldman was one of the few
public figures who challenged the assertions in the newspapers at that time surrounding the white
slave panic. She was truly prophetic when she described that movement as a toy that serves to
amuse the people for a little while, and it will help to create a few more fat political jobs parasites
who stalk about the world as inspectors, investigators, detectives, and so forth.
Goldman rejected the ideals of Progressive Era abolitionists. She insisted, To the moralist
prostitution does not consist so much in the fact that the woman sells her body, but rather that she
sells it out of wedlock. Contrarily, Maude Miner Hadden, wished for prostitutes to be sent to reform
schools or institutions for the feebleminded during the Progressive Era. Hadden said, These girls
have not been, except in rare instances, physically enslaved; but through the loss of freedom and of
action, they have been bound to prostitution. Their demoralization of character has constituted
moral enslavement.
Goldman was, instead, more concerned about society s indifference to the main cause of
prostitution economic and social conditions. As a side note, Goldman tried to once work as a
prostitute to help raise money for her fellow anarchist and partner, Alexander Berkman. He was
well known for shooting one of

Essay about Benefits of Medical Abbreviations
Benefits of Medical Abbreviations There are many benefits of medical abbreviations. One
benefit of medical abbreviations is how much easier it makes it to read a chart. This speeds up
the process by knowing the abbreviations and the use of them. It is nice to simplify things by
using medical abbreviations when it is a busy day. The other reason to use medical
abbreviations is so that only the medical personnel will know what is being described. It is a
very efficient way of maintaining a patient s privacy. Everybody does not need to know a patient s
medical history or what is going on with a patient or resident and allows their privacy to be
protected.

Growing up it was rare to see women put on shoulder pads and a helmet, and run around acting
like maniacs tackling one another. That act in America would not be very lady like. In a world
we live in, Women playing Football is not respected enough. Unless it s women aggressively
hitting each other while wearing tight booty shorts and a bra with shoulder pads on and a helmet.
This happens in a women s football league called Legends Football League, referred to as Lingerie
Football League. The Lingerie Football League is a women s 7 on 7 tackle American football
league that Started in Australia then came to America. The league was founded in 2009 as the
Lingerie Football League and was renamed as the Legends Football League in 2013. The league
s founder and chairman is Mitchell S. Mortaza. I feel that Women who play Lingerie Football
should be recognized by their talent to play the sport rather than their half nakedness. A lot of men
do not think women are tough enough to play Football. These women that do play football in
Professional leagues should be taken more serious not only by their peers, but by the Lingerie
Football League s founder and Chairman Mitchell S. Mortaza. Women that play Lingerie Football

The Development Of The Roman Republic
The development of the Roman Republic is an overshadowed, yet important, piece of Roman
civilization. When asked about Rome many only relish in the grand military expansions or
grand virtues of the organized empire that was established. However, full of turmoil Rome was
left to battle its own structural demons. Romans based their identities off of unwritten morals
and beliefs established through tradition. The struggle within Rome is evident throughout the
writings of Appian and Rigsby. The development of the Twelve Tables brings forth the beginning
of Rome s attempt to establish order throughout the republic and balance both the cultural and
economic beliefs. I will prove that the Roman Republic used law in an effort to keep cultural
traditions and establish economic prosperity. Rome originally based the law systems on codes
of unwritten law. This law based itself upon basic morals and the idea to have an upstanding
virtue as an individual. However, this legal system soon came to an end due to the abuse and
twisting of the law codes, so that those in power could oppress the common people. A furor for
an establishment of written law over took the plebians, law that would establish a fair and
opportunistic life. The Twelve Tables sought to shorten the gap between plebians and patricians by
setting a written law code, which embraced the moral beliefs all romans shared. The moral values
and unwritten law code are established evidently in the Twelve Tables , When a person

Pros And Cons Of Remedies For Thorogood Products
After carefully reviewing the pros and cons of this product, I find that remedies are available for
certain problems addressed in the reviews. For instance, if you are aware the boot size runs large;
consider ordering a size smaller. However, feet do tend to swell after standing for long periods of
time, this added room can offer some additional comfort, whereas, if you purchased a bootthat fit
snug in the beginning you might result in cramped, sore feet. In addition, wearing thicker socks
will alleviate the extra room and prevent slippage, plus increase the comfort and shock absorption
levels.

Religion Vs Ramayana
The Ramayana is one of the world s oldest religious epics, dating back to roughly 7,000 B.C. and
only first being written down around 500 B.C. Compare this to the Bible, in which scholars believe
that writing began for the Old Testament around 5,000 B.C. Both of these texts have been
continually updated since their respective creations. Since the Ramayanawas first only an oral story,
it continually went through progressive changes, with its first written incarnation taking place
around 500 B.C. Since then, the Ramayana has been continually updated, retold, and reinvigorated.
The Ramayana holds great significance in Indian/Southeast Asian cultures, as it s influenced the
sphere since its creation. It has been told as a play, a movie, and... Show more content on

The dharma applies the law, religion, and the ultimate reality in which we leave. In Hinduism,
the concept of dharma or duty applies to everyone, no matter what social status, age, or caste. By
following one s specific dharma, one could break samsara, the cycle of endless rebirth, and
achieve moksha, the liberation from samsara. You cannot count on the physical proximity of
someone you love, all the time. A seed that sprouts at the foot of its parent tree remains stunted
until it is transplanted...Every human being, when the time comes, has to depart and seek his
fulfillment in his own way (Page 9). In Hinduism, the emphasis is placed on an individual s duty
to find their own way, their own purpose. By doing so, own can find purpose in their life, or find
fulfillment . While both the Bible and the Ramayana focus on duty, their versions of duty are
different. In the Bible, duty is a much more unifying concept than an individualistic concept. In the
Old Testament, the concept of the Ten Commandmentsapplies to the duty of Christians.
Specifically found in Exodus 20, Moses goes to the top of Mount Sinai to have a conversation
with God. Here, God lies out the Ten Commandments as a guideline for the lost people who have
turned to worshipping false ideals. The concept of the Ten Commandments applies to all Christians,
as it is their duty to obey the Lord out of the love that the Lord has given them.

The International Court Of Justice
International Court of Justice (ICJ, or the Hague International Court of Justice) established in 1945
is one of the main organs and judicial branch in the United Nation. It legally based on the Statute of
International Court of Justice signed in 1945 and Statute of the Permanent Court of International
Justice signed in 1920, which are unitary parts of United Nation Chapter.
The International Court of Justice is composed of 15 judges elected to nine year terms of office by
receiving an absolute majority of the votes in both United Nations General Assembly and the
Security Council. One third of the Court is elected every three years. For balancing the regional and
legal distribution, 3 judges are from Asia, 2 from Latin America and Caribbean, 3 from Africa, 2
from Eastern Europe, and 5 from Western Europe, Northern America and Oceania in general. The
committees that convince the administration, the Registry, which is the permanent administrative
organ of ICJ, and technical departments, mainly operate the ICJ.
ICJ is the sole common international court that has general jurisdiction. The court pursues the

Basically the higher the speed of a vehicle, the more difficult collision avoidance becomes and
the greater the damage if a collision does occur. Speeding is defined as the act or an instance of
driving, especially a motor vehicle, faster than is allowed by law. Speeding is often one
component of aggressive driving which is defined as committing a combination of moving
traffic offenses so as to endanger other persons or property. There are strong direct relationships
between the speed at which we drive and the risk of crash involvement and the injuries sustained
if a crash results. The probability of injury and the severity of those injuries increases
exponentially with vehicle speed. Even small increases in speeds result in a large increase in
the forces experienced by the vehicle occupants or other road users. Put simply, the faster you
drive, the harder you hit and the more severe the injuries you or someone else are likely to suffer.
Traveling over the speed limit can be especially dangerous in bad weather conditions. Speeding

Women Are More Romanticly Attracted To Men
The belief that women are more romantically attracted to men caring for and acting in a nurturing
and comforting way to babies has become a rather popular opinion in today s society. The reason
for this, to many, is unknown, but the theme has made it into movies, books and even magazines.
For example, in the movie Marley and Me, Sebastian (the best friend) uses John s (the main
character) child to impress and grab the attention of a woman. Sebastian believes the child is an
easy conversation starter and the woman will think highly of him if she sees that he is

The Invisible Man Essay
The Invisible Man, by H.G. Wells, is composed of many small themes that combined to form two
major themes in the novel. Some of the minor themes are acting before thinking and denial of
unexplainable events. It is based on the two major themes of science experiments gone wrong and
the ignorance of society.
The most important theme in the novel was the experiment that Griffin, the invisible man, was
working and it was not going exactly as planned. The way that the experiment went bad was not
by accident; instead it was Griffin who had made the mistake of turning himself invisible. The
reason that the invisible man had for becoming invisible was that he was suspected as to be a
vivesectionalist and he did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people could see his footprints and see him if he became dirty. Another thing that Griffin did
not realize before his experiment back fired was that he could not eat if he wanted to stay
invisible. The people around him could see the food inside his stomach, until his body absorbed it.
The experiment that Griffin went through was his own fault and also sealed his own fate. The
major problem with his invisibility was that Griffin was not able to keep or have any friends. His
only contact was after he was all bandaged up and looked as though he had been in a bad accident.
Without any human contact or support Griffin was destined to become crazy. In the ending
chapters of the novel it is obvious that Griffin has lost his mind and is completely insane.
Not wanton killing, but a judicious slaying. The point is, they know there is an Invisible Man as
well as we know there is an Invisible Man. And that Invisible Man, Kemp, must now establish a
Reign of Terror. (Pg. 114)
The previous quote was taken as the invisible man was talking to Kemp about his plans of
judicial killing. This proves that Griffin has gone completely insane and it is his way of getting
back at society for excluding him. He does not realize that if he had never made himself invisible
nothing like this would be happening.

Lennie s Isolation
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is novella that follows the relationship between George and
Lennie. George and Lennie are a traveling pair of workers which is unusual in the setting of the
novella for most men work alone. In the beginning of the book, the two are turning a new leaf
by getting a new job on a farm where they meet other workers like Slim, Curly, Carlson and etc.
At the end of the book, the workers are on a manhunt for Lennie when they find his dead body
and George near a clearing. Slim leads George away while Carlson looks at the two wondering
what is wrong with them. What really bothers the two men is the loss of George s companion
which leaves him isolated like everyone else in the novella. One example of an isolated character...

Companies across the United States do business in other countries regularly and for various
reasons. Some organizations move in to international markets to take advantage of other countries
strengths and resources which allows companies to expand and grow their business, revenue, and
international presence. The other reason that U.S. organizations move into international markets is
to take advantage of the human resource talent, innovation, and technologies. For instance, some
U.S. companies have expanded into Asian markets to leverage the technological expertise of local
populations, which not only boosts business and capabilities, but also helps to expand their client
base (Kokemuller, 2016).

The WTO is the only global international organization that deals with trade rules between nations
and their goal is to help companies that produce goods and services and export and import, to
conduct business successfully (World Trade Organization, 2016). Because Indians are strict when
adhering to a policy or procedure and to deal with the vast amounts of bureaucracy the WTO
would be the best organizations to help both companies come to a business agreement. Indians
will often take longer than usual to get the U.S. company a contract, certificate, or document
which can create a bottleneck (Hume, 2012). The bureaucrats holding up the progress expect a
payoff for moving things along faster so having a local player or someone who knows how to
weave in and out of bureaucracy in India may make business dealings easier. Hume (2012),
suggests doing research beforehand to figure out who the right players are and be diligent.
Other cultural nuisances when conducting business in India is their perspective on time.
Indians don t like to be ruled by a calendar or a clock so getting business done in a timely fashion
is hard to accomplish. One of the frustrations with doing business in India is that the politicians
have a great deal of power. If a person in office is in the process of being replaced and a company
had business dealing with the previous person, business dealing will start over at square one with

What Is Equality In Susan B Anthony s Speech
From a young age, American students are able to comprehend the idea that our nation s success
tends to center around the equality of the people. History classes have taught us that the less
discrimination in this world, the easier a country can succeed. Although the nation continues to
fight the war of inequality between its citizens through endless protests and movements, the nation
itself has promised equality to all minorities no matter their color or gender. With new laws added
to the Bill of Rights, the United Stateshave been able to resolve government issues regarding civil
liberties such as freedom of speech, voting regulations and female restrictions that have haunted us
from our American past.
Voting, in this day and age, is easily taken for granted by most. When Susan B. Anthony gave her
speech in 1873 in the hope of the country bettering their laws to comply with the female population,
she knew the nation s laws complied most with the white male citizens (Source E) of the country.
Knowing that mistreatment in society was something shared between minorities, Anthony called
out the group of people that were treated better than anyone. When speaking to her audience,
Anthony uses ethos in her speech in order to make her point clear that withholding women s civil
liberties is wrong. Being a woman in 1873, Anthony faced discrimination in her everyday life; for
this reason, she chose to focus on changing not only the country s social discrimination, but also it s

The Relationship Between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth Essay
The Relationship Between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth face an extraordinary situation involving a strong supernatural theme
and murder and treason of the highest kind. However Shakespeare still cleverly manages to make
Lady Macbeth and Macbeth relate to audiences of all eras and to convey a strong moral message
within his play.
The relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is fascinating to study. Shakespeare
constantly changes their attitude to each other throughout the play, making it hard to form a clear
cut opinion of their relationship. My personal opinion is that, although events in the play certainly
draw Macbeth and Lady Macbeth apart, their love for one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By letting his wife announce that they must kill Duncan, Macbeth is able to offload some of the
guilt of the deed onto her he uses Lady Macbeth as a scapegoat for his already guilty conscience.
Upon sending the letter Macbeth immediately goes to see his wife. In my opinion he does this
so that Lady Macbeth is ready to begin to override Macbeth s good characteristics immediately.
When Macbeth loses Lady Macbeth s support later on in the play he is forced to act
independently of her, and so loses the ability to murder. I feel that his actions throughout the play
are an indication of Macbeth s dependency on his wife, as well as his misuse of their love in order
to claim the title of King. He refers to Lady Macbeth as: [his] dearest partner of greatness showing
that Macbeth envisages them sharing the power of the throne.
In his soliloquy Macbeth admits that he has no spur To prick the sides of [his] intent which
indicates that Macbeth knows that he will require Lady Macbeth to be his spur , and coax him
into murdering Duncan. He also knows that by allowing Lady Macbeth to take up such a
domineering role she will take the murder out of his hands, thus freeing him from a great deal of
guilt.
Upon receiving the letter, Lady Macbeth immediately responds to Macbeth s wishes, realising that

They will use words and images that bring your mind to a certain political party. Some people
can see that the media is slanted left on the political scale but others do not see it. What people
need to do is to identify the words and terminology that the media is using to see if there is any
bias involved. People also have a problem when they read an article and read it like it is the only

prompted changes in the community that the townspeople of Clarkston were not ready to

The townspeople needed to change the way they ran their businesses in order to attract customer.

Medieval Art Essay
Medieval Art
In the art world, the medieval periods were traditionally though to be the unproductive phase of
Europe between the decline of Rome and the Renaissance. Our modern feelings toward medieval
art are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which
was also a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the
art found from medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the
Middle Ages can be divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which
ranged from 400 to 800 A.D. and was important in metal work. Carolingian art ranged from 750 to
987 A.D. overlapping 50 years of the Celto Germanic period. The ... Show more content on

The Carolingian style is of small dimensions. Most of this style pulls its influence from Byzantine
artwork. An explanation for the sudden change from Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the
new minuscule form of writing, remarkable for its clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this
time period is rare although writings tell us that goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active.
Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and
fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural
advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis
on emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more
religious and revolutionary imagery. Examples of Romanesque sculpture are dated back to the last
decade of the eleventh century and then first decades of the twelfth. The primary source of artistic
patronage was provided by the monastic institutions, for whom sculptors executed large relief
carvings for the decoration of church portals and richly ornate capitals for cloisters (Cleaver 156)
Another aspect of the Romanesque revival was the production of metalwork objects, of which many
outstanding examples, such as crucifixes, reliquary shrines, and candlesticks, are still preserved in
church treasuries. It was

The Serial Peripheral Interphase
The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is a synchronous bi directional (full duplex) serial data
protocol used by microcontrollers to enable communication between one or more peripheral
devices that are all of short distances to one another. Furthermore, it can also be used for
communication between two microcontrollers; with particular interest between Arduino boards
and Multiwii flight controllers. In general, an SPI data link consists of one master; typically a
microcontroller which controls one or more peripheral devices known as slaves. Both the
master and the slaves share three common lines which include; MISO (Master In Slave Out)
which is responsible for transferring data from the slave to the master; MOSI (Master Out Slave
In) which is responsible for transferring data from the master to the slaves; and SCK (Serial
Clock) which is created by the master and is responsible for synchronising the transmission of
data between master and slave in respect clock pulses. There is also SS (Slave Select) line that
is specific to a pin on each slave device and in which the master can use to enable and disable
specific slave devices. In the case a slave device s SS pin is low, communication is enabled with
the master. However in the case it is high, communication is disabled with the master. This allows
multiple devices using SPI to share common MISO, MOSI, and CLK lines. Full duplex data
transmission occurs during each clock cycle generated by the master in which the master

Why Should Books Be Banned In Schools
What would you do if a school let your kindergartener read a provocative book? What if a book

child be exposed to that at such a young age? I know that I m not, so I stand with censoring and
banning books. If books are inappropriate, children simply should not have access to them in a
public or school library. I think that if a bookis banned, it is banned for a good reason.
Furthermore, I think that the process of censorship of books is perfect, for it needs to be strict
enough in order to keep children and adults safe from unsuitable books. Of course, everyone has the

Eugenics is defined as the science of improving a population by controlled breeding to increase the

Kelves argues that in the future, genetic engineering could allow eugenics to become
commercialized (cite). As an example, parents who could afford the procedures would be in a

effective CBT really can be for PTSD. (Resick et al, 2002) carried out an investigation comparing

Social Hierarchy Of The Aztec Social Structures
Social Structures The Aztec people had a rigid social hierarchy that was made up of nobles
(pipiltin), commoners (macehualtin), serfs, and slaves. The noble members of society were
made up of lords (tecihtli), government and military leaders and high level priests. Only these
nobles were allowed to show evidence of their wealth by wearing jewellery and decorated capes.
Nobles were entitled to receive tribute from commoners in the form of goods, services and
labour. The commoner class was made up of farmer, merchants, artisans and low level priests.
Commoners would usually live in calpulli or neighbourhood ward lead by a single noble or group
of commoner elders. The merchants and artisans had it the best of all of those in this class with
more freedom and wealth than those around them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The serfs would work the land of the noble s but would not reside with the commoners. Slavery
could be a punishment for an individual s crimes or failure to pay tribute to the nobles above
them. Someone could elect to send themselves or their children into slavery to pay off a debt
with permission of the court and any prisoners of war that were not sacrificed to the gods would
most likely end up as a slave. Unlike many other cases of slavery throughout history, slaves had the
right to marry, have children, to buy their freedom or even substitute another in their place. Slaves
were rarely resold and so were usually released upon the death of the noble they served. No Aztecs
were born slaves and therefore children couldn t inherit that status from their

Why Was World War 1 A Turning Point In History
World war one occurred during 1914 to 1918 and was a major turning point in history. Thirty two
countries were involved in world war one. After the war ended many soldiers were given the title
of being a war hero for their courageous actions during the war. However all the mothers, wives and
children that were left in Australiawere left with the major responsibility of taking on paid
employment and household work and they deserve equal recognition. Whilst young Australian men
were fighting in the war, the Australian economy, workforce and female roles were changing but
the Australian spirit and reputation was only growing through the support given to sliders from
their home front.

The Australian society worked in way that prevented women from working as they were
expected to stay home look after their children and do all the domestic work. Women that where
not married before the war where unlikely to find a partner as sixty thousand men were killed and
one hundred and fifty thousand men where injured (Skwirk online education, 2016). During this
time women were expected to marry young and have children. Consequently this meant that when
the war started thousands of men were forced to abandon their jobs and fight for Australia so
there were many vacancies that need to be filled and there were also many women that were
looking after their children and had no income. The government started to employing women
through campaigns and recruiting drives (Australian Government, 2015). Women worked in areas
that where originally considered jobs for men, some of these occupations include: railway guards,
ticket collectors and some led horses or other animals on farms. Women were working the same
jobs as men but earn less than fifty percent of a man s wage (University of Lincoln, n.d). Slowly

Essay on Ethics of Earnings Management
I enjoyed the conversation on GAAP and earnings management relating to the case Be Careful
What You Wish For: From the Middle . The conversation was brief, but got me thinking on the
ethics of earnings management. GAAP accounting is to reflect in good faith the company s actual
financial status and present reality as is. It is not to present a manipulated set of numbers that paint
a pretty picture. GAAPrequires recording of revenue when there is persuasive evidence of an
arrangement, assurance of collectability, a fixed or determinable price, and delivery. If Sarah
recognizes revenue before delivery, she would violate GAAP and partake in channel stuffing. It
would not be earnings management. In my opinion, there is a fine line... Show more content on

Although her actions would not violate GAAP, it would allow revenue to be manipulated to
paint a pretty picture for third party users. I feel earnings management is saying, I know what
the ending needs to be. What can I do to achieve this end? What loophole exists? Ultimately, if
there is intent to deceive, I believe earnings management is unethical. The case Is This My
Place?...Speaking UP has been the hardest for me. I have found it difficult to decide what I
would do if I were in Ben s situation. I know it is wrong for donors to inflate the value of their
donations, but I would be afraid to say anything out of fear they might stop donating to the
organization. Knowing my manager was aware of the overstated donations and did not care
would make matters worse. Unless I had a clear plan to present to him, I would remain quiet. If
donations stopped, individuals in need of medical supplies would suffer. In weighing the options, I
see the pros and cons of each side. By letting donors continue to overstate donation amounts, donors
remain happy, the organization continues to receive donations, and those in need benefit. On the
other hand, if someone does not put a stop to the overstatements, they could continue indefinitely
and grow bigger over time. Additionally, if the IRS were to find out, the not for profit s reputation
would be tainted and donors

Activism In If A Tree Falls
The films If a Tree Falls, Bidder 70, and Trinkets and Beads all exhibit some form of environmental
activism that goes against the generalized position on how the environment ought to be controlled
and dominated. For Daniel McGowan, his method was monkeywrenching; Tim De Christopher s
monkeywrenching and civil disobedience; Moi and the Huaorani holding to tradition. Activism
comes in all forms and these are just three examples. However, their activism points to a greater
issue.
In If a Tree Falls, we are introduced to the story of Daniel McGowan a member of the Earth
Liberation Front. Daniel started out as a regular guy growing up, but became radicalized through
the Wetlands Environmental Center. During this time, he became involved in the Earth Liberation
Front and had gained the alias the Disgruntled One because of his attitude. As he continued to
change and advance in the environmental movement, he became more accepting of the concept of
monkeywrenching. Dave Foreman says that monkeywrenching can be safe, it can be easy, it can
be fun... but it must be strategic, it must be thoughtful, it must be deliberate in order to succeed
(Foreman 192). For Edward Abbey, monkeywrenching references any act that seeks to preserve
the wilderness, and this included sabotage, activism, and law making. In Daniel s case, he and a
group of others conducted several arsons on various properties across the Pacific Northwest. As a
result, he and others whom were involved in the arsons were

Airport Body Scanners and Personal Privacy Essay
Airport Body Scanners and Personal Privacy Believe it or not, there was a time when passengers
showed up an hour before their flights and walked directly to their assigned gates without taking
off their shoes at a security screening station or throwing away their bottles of water. There was
even a time when friends and family met passengers at the gate and watch their flights take off or
land without having a ticket or identification...and that was only ten years ago. Air travel safety
precautions changed dramatically after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that targeted
passenger planes in the United States and killed well over 1,000 people. Precautions continue to

In 2009, a man on a flight from the Netherlands to Detroit attempted to blow up a plane with
explosives in his underwear. Although the body scanners were in the United States at the time, they
were not in the Netherlands. Passengers argue that no matter how many security measures are put in
place, terrorists will find a new and innovative way to cause destruction. They claim that the only
guarantee the body scanners can make is violation of privacy for innocent people. Privacy issues
often become a heated debate in a country like the United States of America, which was founded
on the basic principle of freedom. Passengers are outraged that officials are viewing nude images
of their bodies. They are rebelling against intrusive pat downs and demanding better solutions. The
TSA takes all of these concerns under consideration and has made admirable efforts to ensure
privacy, as well as to clarify points used in arguments against the new screenings.
For example, the TSA has established strict guidelines regarding the images received by the
body scanners. Images of women are only viewed by female agents and images of men are only
viewed by male agents. The agents viewing the images are in a separate, secure room and never
see the passengers they are viewing on screen. According to TSA s privacy policy, The two officers

African American Stereotypes In Fences
People are natural evaluators of everything they come across, and they attempt to acquire insights as
they evaluate other people. Stereotypes are the beliefs that people hold concerning other human
groups after gaining insights about them. Racial stereotypes have been common among African
Americans and the whites. In the 20th century, African Americans were stereotyped as
contaminated and dirty by the whites; maybe because of the insufficient income they are said to
earn. The whites also associate African Americans with substance use. Additionally, the Sambo
stereotypeassociates the black community with slavery and simple mindedness. Up to the current
times, movies and other forms of art and literature portray stereotype themes. These stereotypes
have shaped the attitudes of the two groups towards each other since the beginning of the American
history. In his play Fences, August Wilson unveils stereotype of black people.... Show more content

Colonialism In Australia
Introduction Colonialism is defined as the practice of domination, which involves control of one
person to another (Plato.stanford.edu, 2018). This usually involves the settlement of citizens from
colonial power in the colony. Indigenous Australians have been marginalised by settler colonial
Australians, results of this has impacted the way Indigenous Australians are viewed and treated in
contemporary society. Indigenous people have struggled to regain their rights such as reclaiming
their identities that were misappropriate by the presence of colonials (Maddison, 2013).

Terra Nullius is an example of how settler colonialism tried to take ownership of Australian land.
Terra Nullius is a Latin word that means land belonging to no one (Craven and Parbury, 1999).
Captain James Cook claimed Australia and declared that Australia seems to have no fixed habitation
but instead habitants of the land, move around from place to place like wild beasts in search of
food (Craven and Parbury, 1999). The British settlement and takeover of Australia affected, attitudes
and treatment of Indigenous. Terra Nullius denied the humanity and existence of Indigenous
Australians and can be considered the cause of most racism towards Indigenous Australia. This has
led to the White Australia Act, which depended on the non existence of Indigenous and also the
racialisation of Indigenous Australians. The Indigenous population in Australia became subject to
racialised identity categories based on their degrees of blood, labelling and classifying people as
full blood, half cast (Maddison, 2013). This policy led to removing Indigenous children from their
families and communities. This policy was enforced with the intention to erase the Indigenous
population, by blending them into invisibility within the colonial population (Maddison, 2013).
However, in 2008, the federal parliament gave an apology to the stolen generation (The
Conversation, 2018). This comes after many years of

The Parable Of The Good Samaritan In Honduras
Back in 2003, while a missionary in Honduras, I came across a gentleman in a small village in
central Honduras who, from my point of view, was poor, out of work and had a need the size of
Texas with a family that almost matched the population of Texas. At the time, and being new in
the mission field, all I could do was to compare him to my standard of living. I had nothing else to
go on. My immediate reaction was to help him. I thoughtto myself, I am going to offer this man a
job and help him come out of his plight. I knew that I could not just give him what he needed
because of what I had learned in the past. As the old proverb goes, Give a man a fish and you feed

This is very good! But He goes beyond it and provides permanency through His resurrection,
without which, we could not have eternal life. This is even better! However, the another
application of His love for us is in the restoring quality we receive through Sonship. This is His
utmost and supremely His best! Sonship is the standard and end goal for our Lord in his pursuit
of us and so it should be the standard for the Christian as we pursue the work of missions to aid
not only the poor, but to befriend our neighbor, reclaim our enemy and being a true friend. Without
it, we can aid the poor, we can develop communities and provide permanency through financial
security, but if they do not gain Sonship (a relationship with the Father), all of our work will have

The Dark Ages Of The Middle Ages
The Renaissance was the period in European history that referred how people were finally learning
about the Classical antiquity. It also marked the translation from the Middle Ages to the Modern
world. The length of the period lasted from 14th century to the 17th century, but it forever changed
the Western World.
People during the Renaissance viewed the other periods throughout history differently.
Everyone was worshipping the Classical antiquity since the people were free to think and question
while the Middle Ages caused people to go into silence for fears of punishment. They were most
disgusted with the Middle Ages because of how much it wasn t the Classical antiquity. The Dark
Ages, a nickname for the Middle Ages made by the Renaissance, were often described the
backwards civilization that had formed after the Western Roman Empire collapsed. However,
Classical antiquity appealed every Renaissance man and woman because their artworks and ruins
were found all over Europe and it caused people to be curious about it. Once they learn of the
Romans and the Greeks, it led to people coming up with their own ideas while challenging the
Catholic Church s ideas. Once the Renaissance began and spread across Europe, major discoveries
would forever change world history. There were several discoveries going on during the
Renaissance that forever changed the world. One of those most important discoveries was the
exploration of the New World. Christopher Columbus, the famous explorer,

The Field Of Veterinary Medicine
What are different careers in the field of Veterinary medicine? How do these jobs use chemistry?
Why is chemistry so important to veterinarians? What arguments are there about veterinary
medicine?
Different careers in the field of Veterinary medicine There are several different career paths that
you can take with a veterinary degree, but there are six main areas of veterinary medicine that
include: Private practice, Teaching and research, Industry, etc.
First off is Private practice, which is the most common and what most people will think of when
talking about veterinary medicine. These are the veterinarians that would regularly perform check
ups on small and large animals, test them for infectious diseases, diagnose them and perform any
medical or surgical treatments needed. This also includes veterinary technicians (vet techs) who
work alongside the veterinarians, perform certain procedures and tests, and sometimes specialize in
surgery or anesthesia.
Secondly there s Teaching and research. This field allows for continuous advancement in medicine
allowing both humans and animals to live longer and (hopefully) healthier lives. It has also come
up with some important findings like isolating viruses and other pathogens such as Salmonella, and
learning to control different diseases such as Malaria and Yellow fever.
Lastly is Industry. This includes veterinarians that work in pharmaceutical and biomedical research
to test, develop and supervise the

Home Upgrade Should Be Your Mattress ( removed HTML ) It s common sense to pay the most
attention to home upgrades that most affect your lifestyle, health and comfort. That s why
upgrading your mattress ranks as one of the most important improvements that you can make
around the house. Lack of restful sleep can damage your health, generate stress and lower your
overall quality of life. According the WebMD, sleep loss can increase your risk of a heart attack,
high blood pressure, stroke and diabetes. [1] The issue of comfort is more important than you
think when you consider that you ll probably spend 7 9 hours each day on the mattress for many
years. Old, worn out mattresses cause injuries from exposed springs, affect your spinal health and
harbor insects and allergens. About 20 millions Americans are allergic to dust mites, and the
reactions of allergic asthmatics are even more intense. [2] ( removed HTML ) Why You Should

Religion And Its Impact On The Church Of The 1400-1500s
Chapter 14 Unit Questions Pluralism attracted the most negative attention to the Church of the
1400 1500s because when Church appointed officials did not show up to their benefices, leading
to the lack of responsibilty of the Church officials. Immorality was mostly neglect of the rule of
celibacy, however immorality was not entirely sexual transgressions, there was also clerical
drunkenness, gambling, and indulgence in fancy dress. Ignorance was the lack of education, as
many priests were barely able to read or write. Finally, in regard to pluralism or absenteeism, many
clerics had benefices, but rarely ever visited them, let alone performed the religious duties the
offices entailed, this led to the attracton of the most negative attention. Catholics believed they
would gain salvation by both faith and good works. Luther disagreed with the percepts of Catholic
salvation by saying that salvation comes by faith alone. Luther argued that women and men are
saved by the arbitrary decision of God, heedless of good works or the sacraments. Luther preached
that God, not people, established salvation. The major ways in which Luther challenged the
Catholic Church included different ideas of salvation, where religious authority resides, what the
church was, and what the highest form of Christian life was. Where Catholics believed salvation
was achieved by both faith and good works, Luther believed it was gained through only faith.
Christian doctrine had long maintained that

America s Civil Justice Reform
Introduction On February 27, 1992, Stella Liebeck, aged 79 at the time, bought a coffee from
the drive thru of a McDonald s in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She spilled the coffee on herself
and received third degree (full thickness) burns. She sued McDonald s and was originally awarded
almost $3 million in damages. This case is a perfect example of frivolous litigationand is one of the
reasons some Americans think there needs to be civil justice reform.
Facts
Liebeck was riding as a passenger in her grandson s car. After receiving her order, he pulled up
and stopped so Liebeck could put cream and sugar in her coffee. She placed the Styrofoam
coffee between her knees because there was no cup holder and tried to remove the lid. However,
the coffee spilled onto her and she received third degree burns on her buttocks, genital, groin, and
inner thighs. She was hospitalized for eight days and had skin grafts and debridement
treatments. Liebeck was also disabled for two years after the accident and permanently scarred.
Her daughter took off of work to help take Stella to and from the hospital. She also lost around
twenty percent of her bodyweight following the incident. Before going to trial, Liebeck offered to
settle for $20, 000, which would cover just her hospital stay and other medical expenses.
McDonald s counteroffered with an amount of $800. Ms. Liebeck then hired an attorney, Reed
Morgan, who had requested $90,000. McDonald s also refused this offer.

  • 3. My Accurate Sci Fi Story John (Jack) Brugato ESS 102 AH Research Paper Rough Draft 4/10/17 Space Debris My scientifically accurate sci fi story will focus on astronauts tasked with aiding in the clean up of space debris. The story will take place not too far in the future, in a time where space debris is creating problems for NASA and other space programs. Space debris is proving to be too dangerous and has resulted in numerous failed missions and destroyed unmanned spacecraft. The purpose of clearing out the space debris is because NASA discovered a planet that had promising signs of life and is sending other probes and unmanned spacecraft to investigate further. What is Space Debris? One issue with space travel has to do with the debris that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Kessler Syndrome was brought to light in 2009 when the Iridium 33, a United States satellite, was struck by the Cosmos 2251, an unused Russian satellite. Due to Kepler s laws of orbital motion and the objects being as close they were to Earth s gravitational pull, the two satellites collided at about five miles per second (Parker, greeniacs.com). The result of the collision proves Kessler s concerns, as a cloud of thousands of pieces of broken equipment and satellite parts was created, which is now in Earth s orbit. The true danger of space debris relies in the speed of each piece. Since each piece travels at around four to five miles per second, smaller pieces could be catastrophic towards future missions (Dunbar, nasa.gov). One such case of debris causing damage comes through the missions STS 50 to STS 114. Over the span of these 54 missions, debris and meteoroids hit the windows of the shuttles about 1600 times, resulting in 92 replacements (Madrigal, wired.com). The shuttles radiators have also been hit a number of times, leaving holes in the facesheet. One instance in particular occurred when a 100 micron sized particle hit the window of the STS 50, causing a one millimeter crater (Whitlock, nasa.gov). These instances show how dangerous even the smallest particles can be for spacecraft. How is it tracked? Space debris is not going unnoticed however. NASA and the Department of Defense are tracking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects Of Cognitive Distance On Our Lives Everyone loves taking a vacation to a dream destination. What used to be a far away drive, is now within hours away. Today people go over a hundred miles to see family members for a couple of days; where as back in time people would think that is an outrageous travel just for a couple days. Our grandparents lifestyle of growing up is completely different than the lifestyle we are living in present day. Cognitive distance is the distance people perceive to exist. Cognitive distance is shrinking, the world may seem smaller due to technologyadvances within communication , faster accessibility, and the different lifestyle of civilization.Throughout the years as a world we have experienced technology advancements within communication, from replacing telegrams with telephones to the spread of the internet. When we wanted to talk to someone we would have to write them a letter, pay for postage and send it in the mail. This would take a couple of days to get to them, an you would not know if it was successfully delivered. Now we can communicate with another person within seconds, we do not have to write a letter or pay for postage. All we have to do is send a real quick text message to them or email them. They will get it within a couple seconds. You could possibly send a message to someone in another county, state and country and you do not have to wait for days, months or years for them to reply. • 5. Technology Addiction Essay Technology addiction is perceived as a major problem by the majority of American parents. In Bergman s Don t Limit Your Teen s Screen Time , Bergman uses his personal experience as both a parent and as an avid technology user to justify his argument that screen time limits have negative effects on children. On the other hand, in Boyd s Blame Society, Not the Screen Time , Boyd blames the American Education system, and parents for technologyaddiction in children, and proposes that children should have less pressure and more free time to spend with their friends. While Bergman utilizes his past and current experiences with technology to craft a clear argument against technology, Boyd creates a stronger argument by drawing on her years of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While games like minecraft, and applications like photoshop may allow children to flourish, it is not the mindless, violent entertainment most parents worry about. By conveniently ignoring the concerns of his audience, Bergman creates a divide, tremendously hurting his argument. Bergman states that limiting screen time only fuels covert binging, (Bergman). To test his theory, Bergman stopped restricting [his] children s screen time in [his] house, and immediately saw results (Bergman). This one time experiment doesn t come close to the years of experience that Boyd reflects upon. Unlike Bergman, Boyd uses strong claims, and a variety of evidence to support her argument. Boyd reasons that since children have limited freedom and are given busy schedules, they are unable to socialize with their peers. Boyd cites much higher levels of concern about technology addiction in countries where there s even greater pressure to succeed and fewer social opportunities (Boyd). Countries that pressure their children to succeed by loading their schedule with work typically have high levels of technology addiction, and the inverse is true for countries that focus on student happiness. Boyd notes that Finland and the Netherlands consistently outperform the U.S. in school, and they emphasize student happiness, assigning no homework (Boyd). Not only does this approach increase test grades, it also correlates to parents being less anxious about technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The White Slave Trade By Emma Goldman One of Comstock s targets was Emma Goldman, whom he unsuccessfully tried to have imprisoned for her unconventional writings about the white slave trade. Indeed, Goldman was one of the few public figures who challenged the assertions in the newspapers at that time surrounding the white slave panic. She was truly prophetic when she described that movement as a toy that serves to amuse the people for a little while, and it will help to create a few more fat political jobs parasites who stalk about the world as inspectors, investigators, detectives, and so forth. Goldman rejected the ideals of Progressive Era abolitionists. She insisted, To the moralist prostitution does not consist so much in the fact that the woman sells her body, but rather that she sells it out of wedlock. Contrarily, Maude Miner Hadden, wished for prostitutes to be sent to reform schools or institutions for the feebleminded during the Progressive Era. Hadden said, These girls have not been, except in rare instances, physically enslaved; but through the loss of freedom and of action, they have been bound to prostitution. Their demoralization of character has constituted moral enslavement. Goldman was, instead, more concerned about society s indifference to the main cause of prostitution economic and social conditions. As a side note, Goldman tried to once work as a prostitute to help raise money for her fellow anarchist and partner, Alexander Berkman. He was well known for shooting one of ... One benefit of medical abbreviations is how much easier it makes it to read a chart. This speeds up the process by knowing the abbreviations and the use of them. It is nice to simplify things by using medical abbreviations when it is a busy day. The other reason to use medical abbreviations is so that only the medical personnel will know what is being described. It is a very efficient way of maintaining a patient s privacy. • 10. The Development Of The Roman Republic The development of the Roman Republic is an overshadowed, yet important, piece of Roman civilization. When asked about Rome many only relish in the grand military expansions or grand virtues of the organized empire that was established. However, full of turmoil Rome was left to battle its own structural demons. Romans based their identities off of unwritten morals and beliefs established through tradition. The struggle within Rome is evident throughout the writings of Appian and Rigsby. The development of the Twelve Tables brings forth the beginning of Rome s attempt to establish order throughout the republic and balance both the cultural and economic beliefs. I will prove that the Roman Republic used law in an effort to keep cultural traditions and establish economic prosperity. Rome originally based the law systems on codes of unwritten law. This law based itself upon basic morals and the idea to have an upstanding virtue as an individual. However, this legal system soon came to an end due to the abuse and twisting of the law codes, so that those in power could oppress the common people. A furor for an establishment of written law over took the plebians, law that would establish a fair and opportunistic life. The Twelve Tables sought to shorten the gap between plebians and patricians by setting a written law code, which embraced the moral beliefs all romans shared. The moral values and unwritten law code are established evidently in the Twelve Tables , When a person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the minor themes are acting before thinking and denial of unexplainable events. It is based on the two major themes of science experiments gone wrong and the ignorance of society. The most important theme in the novel was the experiment that Griffin, the invisible man, was working and it was not going exactly as planned. The major problem with his invisibility was that Griffin was not able to keep or have any friends. His only contact was after he was all bandaged up and looked as though he had been in a bad accident. Without any human contact or support Griffin was destined to become crazy. History classes have taught us that the less discrimination in this world, the easier a country can succeed. Although the nation continues to fight the war of inequality between its citizens through endless protests and movements, the nation itself has promised equality to all minorities no matter their color or gender. With new laws added to the Bill of Rights, the United Stateshave been able to resolve government issues regarding civil liberties such as freedom of speech, voting regulations and female restrictions that have haunted us from our American past. Voting, in this day and age, is easily taken for granted by most. When Susan B. It was common for every gentlemen to carry a dagger and some carried a rapier at that time (Wilson). According to the material, rapier is held in dominant hand for attacking while dagger is used in the other hand for defending. Our modern feelings toward medieval art are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which was also a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the art found from medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the Middle Ages can be divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which ranged from 400 to 800 A.D. and was important in metal work. Metal work from this time period is rare although writings tell us that goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active. Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis on emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more religious and revolutionary imagery. Examples of Romanesque sculpture are dated back to the last decade of the eleventh century and then first decades of the twelfth. The primary source of artistic patronage was provided by the monastic institutions, for whom sculptors executed large relief carvings for the decoration of church portals and richly ornate capitals for cloisters (Cleaver 156) Another aspect of the Romanesque revival was the production of metalwork objects, of which many outstanding examples, such as crucifixes, reliquary shrines, and candlesticks, are still preserved in church treasuries. The Serial Peripheral Interphase The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is a synchronous bi directional (full duplex) serial data protocol used by microcontrollers to enable communication between one or more peripheral devices that are all of short distances to one another. Furthermore, it can also be used for communication between two microcontrollers; with particular interest between Arduino boards and Multiwii flight controllers. In general, an SPI data link consists of one master; typically a microcontroller which controls one or more peripheral devices known as slaves. Both the master and the slaves share three common lines which include; MISO (Master In Slave Out) which is responsible for transferring data from the slave to the master; MOSI (Master Out Slave In) which is responsible for transferring data from the master to the slaves; and SCK (Serial Clock) which is created by the master and is responsible for synchronising the transmission of data between master and slave in respect clock pulses. There is also SS (Slave Select) line that is specific to a pin on each slave device and in which the master can use to enable and disable specific slave devices. In the case a slave device s SS pin is low, communication is enabled with the master. However in the case it is high, communication is disabled with the master. This allows multiple devices using SPI to share common MISO, MOSI, and CLK lines. Full duplex data transmission occurs during each clock cycle generated by the master in which the master ... • 57. Religion And Its Impact On The Church Of The 1400-1500s Chapter 14 Unit Questions Pluralism attracted the most negative attention to the Church of the 1400 1500s because when Church appointed officials did not show up to their benefices, leading to the lack of responsibilty of the Church officials. Immorality was mostly neglect of the rule of celibacy, however immorality was not entirely sexual transgressions, there was also clerical drunkenness, gambling, and indulgence in fancy dress. • 58. America s Civil Justice Reform Introduction On February 27, 1992, Stella Liebeck, aged 79 at the time, bought a coffee from the drive thru of a McDonald s in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She spilled the coffee on herself and received third degree (full thickness) burns. She sued McDonald s and was originally awarded almost $3 million in damages. This case is a perfect example of frivolous litigationand is one of the reasons some Americans think there needs to be civil justice reform. Facts Liebeck was riding as a passenger in her grandson s car. After receiving her order, he pulled up and stopped so Liebeck could put cream and sugar in her coffee. She placed the Styrofoam coffee between her knees because there was no cup holder and tried to remove the lid. However, the coffee spilled onto her and she received third degree burns on her buttocks, genital, groin, and inner thighs. She was hospitalized for eight days and had skin grafts and debridement treatments. Liebeck was also disabled for two years after the accident and permanently scarred. Her daughter took off of work to help take Stella to and from the hospital. She also lost around twenty percent of her bodyweight following the incident. Before going to trial, Liebeck offered to settle for $20, 000, which would cover just her hospital stay and other medical expenses. McDonald s counteroffered with an amount of $800. Ms. Liebeck then hired an attorney, Reed Morgan, who had requested $90,000. McDonald s also refused this offer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
