The article Laker rookie Lonzo Ball becomes youngest ever to get triple double is about how Lonzo
Ball was the youngest player to get a triple double as well as how other famous NBA players

Amazon s Mechanical Turk ( M Turk ) Essay
Introduction The present study was an initial test for an online version of the road salting task.
There was a potential concern that the advantage of numeric uncertainty was only restricted to
population that had always been used as participants: young adults with some college education.
Would other populations benefit from numeric uncertainty information as well? Additionally, all
previous data had been collected in a laboratory setting with an experimenter monitoring task
progress and preventing any outside distractions. Indeed, relative to traditional laboratory
environment, many aspects of the online testing environment are not under the experimenter s
control. Participants could be distracted by simultaneously completing other online tasks or
attending to other aspects of their environment. It is unsurprising that unsupervised subjects tend
to be less attentive than subjects in a lab with an experimenter (Oppenheimer, Meyvis,
Davidenko, 2009). Would this affect road salting responses? The online testing environment used
for this project was Amazon s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). The M Turk is a platform for
thousands of response tasks covering a wide range of topics. Respondents complete tasks for small
monetary rewards. Evidence suggests that M Turk samples are reliable and reasonably
representative of the general public and data quality does not seem affected by payment amount

The Recent Life Changes Questionnaire
Stress
Over time, everyone has stressful moments from a change in position at work to a close friend or
family member dying. According to Michelle Albert M.D., Stress is a natural part of life (Is stress
making you sick, 2012). It is when the stress becomes too much that it can become unhealthy. It can
cause many complications on different body systems for the individual. As humans, there are many
ways that we can try and cope with or lower our stress levels. There are several questionnaires that
can help to determine the stress levels of individuals over the last 6 months or over the last year.

According to doctor Michelle Albert an abundance of stress can overpower the body and put you
in a constant fight or flight mode, which can have negative effects on multiple organ systems,
including the heart (Is stress making you sick, 2012). Constant or too much stress is harmful for
the body. It can lead to type 2 diabetes, impaired immunity, worsening depression, and
gastrointestinal problems (Is stress making you sick, 2012, p. 3 4). Other less serious effects such
as colds and fatigue can also occur. While being stressed, it is very important to learn and develop
ways to cope with the stress and prevent these complications that can

Rifleman Dodd Essays
RIFLEMAN DODD: A NOVEL OF THE PENINSULAR CAMPAIGN The story in the book
talks about an infantry warrior named Private Matthew Dodd and his journey to re unite with
his fellow soldiers. The British army was retreating to the lines of Torres Vedras and Dodd was
left behind since he separated from his comrades during the retreat in Portugal behind enemy
lines. He knew that he had to do one thing, and that was to kill all the Frenchmen. Private Dodd
ran through a lot of problems during his journey trying to find his way back to his men. With
some help here and there from the natives, but mostly his own, he raids the French with his rifle
to try and prevent them from building a bridge across the Tagus River. Rifleman Dodd is a story of a

Mind you, this was the little rations he had the night before he was left behind, he saved it just
in case they d run out. With him doing this, he gave himself the hopes to not only sustain the
little amount of food he had but also the strength and energy that he was going to need in case he
would end up in the heat of battle. After traveling many miles on foot, Dodd crept through
several fields during the day and night time so that he wouldn t run into any Frenchmen. He was
seen by Frenchmen, so the French started to fire at Dodd and still missed. Dodd fired back and
took out numerous amounts of men. As the day goes by, Dodd starts to feel like he could no
longer walk, his next challenge was that he had to go through during his separation was the
battle of fatigue. It was really starting to tear him away. Fatigue is a major factor to a person who
is in the heat of battle because a person can do so much to keep their strength and move forward
without stopping or giving up. It was hard for Rifleman Dodd because he had been starving for
days but he still found the durability to look beyond himself and continue to fight to return back to
his men. He had a plan of attack to help him sleep at night and continue on with his mission in the
morning by using tactics. For example, one night he slept with his pack on his back sitting straight

Rock And Roll Music Genre Analysis
Q1: Of all the genres studied this semester, list 3 that you feel have been the most socially
/politically influential over time. Back up your choices with reasons and examples?
While many genres have been substantially influential over time both socially and politically, I feel
that rock and roll genre, country music genre, and African American roots genre.
Rock and Roll Music Genre
This genre s popularity has in time resulted in immense influence thus greatly impacting the
society in facets such as the daily lives of individuals, the language, fashion, and attitudes. In
fact, the genre s influence on social development can only be equaled by a few other music
genres. Rock and roll music enabled the blending of white and black music essentially bringing
down the racial boundaries in the 1950s which resulted and encouraged the racial desegregation
of the 1960s. Additionally, the American racial civil movements that occurred in the 1960s were
greatly influenced by this music genre. More so, people especially young teenagers were greatly
influenced by the genre as well as the celebrities themselves, which led to a new style of fashion
altogether. Apart from this, rock and roll music would result to more people understanding the core
importance of education in dealing with social problems such as racism and poverty.
Country Music Genre
Country music genre has been associated with the American culture for a long time, in fact, the
music has significance socially in that it has

Role of Political Clubs on Frnech Revolution
History, Piotrek Szumowski
Assess the role of the political clubs for the course of the French Revolution
The revolution begun in 1789 with the meeting of the states general. Soon later the Bastille was
stormed (till this day French celebrate it as their national holiday), the king was executed and a
new constitution was written up. By 1799, end of the revolution, a new time had come not just for
the French government, but for all. The revolution was to have an astonishing impact on world
affairs, and its effect can be directly seen today. What french political clubs existed at the time and
what part did they play during the course of that revolution? One by one I will try to answer this
question by looking at how each political party ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However The most prominent figure of this club has to be Maximillien Robespierre the leader and
founder of the club, and the man responsible behind the reign of terror. As soon as the Jacobins
dominated the political scene with the backing of the Paris Mob and commune the so called reign
of terror begun (more bellow). The fall of Robespierre meant the fall of the Jacobins, but their spirit
lived on in revolutionary doctrine.
Girondins
Girondins or otherwise called Gerondists were a slightly less radical political club. Even though
they encouraged the revolution they tried to carry it out at a calmer and slower rate. They were
against the execution of the king, however they did not manage to persuade other clubs to their
ideas. During the revolutionary assembly they engaged into personal rivalry against the Jacobins
and Cordeliers, which eventually led to their downfall. Their main achievement was persuading the
others to declare war on Austria. Unfortunately with Dumouriez s treason, who deflected to the
Austrians, they re position considerably fell. Important figures include

Animal Farm By George Orwell
The ninety five page novella, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell. Aimed at teenagers and
adults, it cleverly shows the flaws within society and how we will never change. This timeless
classic was converted into an hour and ten minute long film (in 1954) which is suitable and
supposedly appealing to young children.
However, the conversion between the novella and the cartoon meant having to cut down and alter
some of the storyline and characters within the novella to suit this age range but at the same time,
trying not to lose the basic structure of the novella and the messages given out by George Orwell
throughout the book.
I felt that on a whole, the cartoon version of Animal Farm did not maintain the textual integrity to
the novella. However, you find that this is the case with most films that have been converted from
books. Although the basic storyline of the novella was suitable for children, the meaning behind it
was beyond the understanding of this age range. I feel that the producers took on a very hard task
to try and convert this high standard novella into a film for all ages.
The purpose of the novella was clear, it is a piece of political satire, mainly concerning the Russian
Revolution. I did not feel however, that this came across in the film in any way. The film was
clearly aimed at children, as the simplicity of the converted storyline was obvious. Although they
kept to the basic structure of the novella, I felt that they did not successfully altar

Soviet Union Research Paper
COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION
To understand why unlike the Soviet Union s political system, China s is not near collapse, one
must first understand why and how the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) collapsed,
resulting in the collapse of the Soviet Union itself. After the October Revolution, the CPSU adopted
Leninism as the main party ideology, and moved swiftly to adopt socialist changes. However, as
Lenin s health declined, his main supporters, Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, began fighting
amongst themselves. Stalin won, forcing Trotsky into exile, and after Lenin s death, began
implementing a series of policies known as Stalinism to solidify his totalitarian rule. Partly
influenced by fascism, Stalin promoted the cult of personality ... Show more content on

Leonid Brezhnev, who took power after Khrushchev, attempted to reinstate Stalinism back into the
Soviet Union. His reign created the neo Stalinist period in Russia, albeit with a series of economic
reforms that favored light industries and the production of consumer goods than heavy industry.
Brezhnev also supported weakening animosities with the West in order to improve relations,
attempting to improve the social and economic condition within the Soviet Union. However, due to
health problems, much of the actual implementation was carried out by others within the CPSU
leadership. Being on average older than the general population, the CPSU leadership was mostly
conservative, which hindered the progress. Overall, through trying to combine the conservative and
relatively outdated ideologies of Stalinism with failing economic reforms, Brezhnev was credited
with the Era of Stagnation in the Soviet Union, being unable to deal with both internal and
international affairs. Following Brezhnev was Yuri Andropov, a reformist who, during his short
time as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, pushed for more freedom in
media and appointed several other reformers into key positions in the CPSU. Konstantin
Chernenko, who took power against Andropov s wishes following his demise, attempted to shift
back into the Brezhnev era policies, while also promoting reforms in education and the role of labor
unions. However, poor health prevented him from properly implementing policies, and de facto
power remained with reformer Mikhail Gorbachev. By this point, the constant fighting between
reformists and Stalinists, together with conflicting and ineffective policies, had severely damaged
the Soviet economy, as well as deteriorated international relations, escalating the Cold War, and
slowly worsened socioeconomic and political tensions within

Research Paper On The Explosion Of The Sultana
The explosion of the Sultana How is it possible that over 1,700 people could die and it not make
it to the front cover of the newspapers? This seems impossible, but that s exactly what happened
back in 1865. April 27, 1865 the Sultana exploded and over 1,700 people were killed. Sad to say
but this event barely made it to the newspapers because of Abraham s Lincoln s death. At the time of
this event a war had just ended and Abraham lincolnhad just died and everyone was worried about
the funeral at the time of this disaster. Many lives were taken when the Sultana exploded and sank

Speech On Selfies
Whether you re posting a duck face or sticking your tongue out, selfies have taken over social
media. Selfies aren t always a bad influence and don t always make people judge themselves so
critically. So we will discuss why selfies are a good idea and why you should take a few more
pictures and post them to Instagram. Pro number one, selfies are scientifically proven to boost
confidence, now who couldn t recognize this. When we post a selfie looking our best and we
get likes for it, it produces a boost of dopamine in our brain, giving us that feel good vibe. Now
you can understand why some get addicted to taking multiple selfies a day. Selfies captures

Selfies help people express themselves in ways they would have never before. You are usually
very comfortable with your own self taking pictures and not others, therefore you can be funny,
nerdy, or sexy without feeling judged. Timemagazine reports that selfies can just be an outlet of
self expression and we shouldn t be so consumed with all the selfies floating in cyber space. Self
captured images allow young adults and teens to express their mood states and share important
experiences, says Dr. Andrea Letamendi, a clinical psychologist and research fellow at UCLA.
As teens and adolescents try to form their identity, selfies serve as a way to test how they look,
and therefore feel, in certain outfits, make up, poses and places. And because we live in a digital
world, selfies provide a way of participating and interacting with that world. Selfies has also
allowed women to publicly celebrate their flaws. For example, Demi Lovato has posted selfies to
Instagram without any makeup on and has encouraged her fans to do likewise. Other sites have
been supporting women to take selfies everyday for a year, regardless of how they

Essay about Wal-Mart
The founder of the Wal Mart chain, Sam Walton was born in March 1918 in the town of
Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Graduating from the University of Missouri, Sam enlisted in the Army
for the World War II effort. Upon his return, Sam worked for a while at the J.C. Penney group of
stores. He began to realize that opportunities existed in the large scale discount retailing business
(nickel and dime stores). The idea and business philosophy of Wal Mart borrowed from the nickel
and dime stores of earlier times, and consisted of getting National Brands in bulk at a discount
based on volume purchases; the company would then stamp its mark and resell the goods at a
slight markup, this rate being however less than the other competing Mom and Pop stores... Show

Yet in the sphere of business, he was a radical trend setter. Choosing to be innovative and
aggressive, the founder of Wal Mart took the large scale discount retailing business to new heights
and down new avenues. Sam borrowed a lot of ideas for his early stores from Kmart and others. But
it was what he chose to do differently В– the ways he put his own stamp on the basic business
model В– that made Wal Mart so fabulously successful. His model was the same as Kmart s, but
his strategy was unique. From the very beginning, Walton chose to serve a different group of
customers. At that time, the 10 largest discounters (in 1962) focused on large metropolitan areas
and cities like New York. Wal Mart s key strategy was to put good size stores into little one horse
towns which everybody else was ignoring. He sought out isolated rural towns with populations
between 5,000 25,000, and correctly bet that if his stores could match or beat the city prices,
people would shop at home. Since Wal Mart s markets tended to be too small to support more
than one large retailer, eventually the small local competitors went out of business, making the
whole area Wal Mart territory. Wal Mart also took a different approach to merchandising and
pricing than its competitors. While competitors relied heavily on private label goods, second tier
brands and price promotions, Wal Mart promised National Brands at everyday low prices. The
company pursued efficiency and

Argentin Economic And Monetary Policies
Argentina is considered to be one of the wealthiest countries in Latin America with a Gross
Domestic Product of about 540 billion in 2014, according to the World Bank. However, it hasn t
always been that way. Argentina has seen many periods of economic and political volatility ever
since its independence from the Spanish Empire in 1816. From commodity based export booms in
the 19th century to high inflationand debt defaults in the 20th century, Argentinais a country with a

From this territory of the viceroyalty, the main exports of silver, livestock and crops, such as
wheat, would be harvested and sent back to Spain in exchange for manufactured goods.
Although, at this time Argentina was flourishing due to its exportation of valuable goods, this
small sectored economy ultimately was the first factor that set the tone of economic depression
in Argentina, as the economy revolved around the cultivation and exportation of commodity
goods. This trend was consistent until the 1800 s, the latter of the colonial period, where trade
saw a decline due to the Napoleonic Wars. The decline was driven by tariff barriers and high
transpiration costs, resulting in the Consumer Price Index rising by 64 points. (Paolera and
Taylor 35) With this decline and trade, Argentina saw a major weakening of its major economic
sector and there saw an increase in social inequality along with a decline in the well being of the
lower classes. Then between 180 and 1816 Argentina broke away from the Spanish Empire and
declared independence. Upon its newly found independence, Argentina s economic struggles arose
once again and would last for the next couple of decades as a result from tension between the creole
and remaining Spanish elites. The Spanish elites that remained in Argentina set up an oligarchic
republic that attempted to suppress the Unitarians by disengaging them from the political

Argumentatives Of The Treaty Of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was signed on 28 June 1919 exactly five years after the assassination of
the Duke Franz Ferdinand ,the trigger cause of the war. The Treaty consisted of 440 Articles
setting out the terms for Germany s punishment. It was one of the numerous treaties at the end
of World War One. The reason of this treaty was to reward the allied powers which fought against
Germany or suffered any of Germany s eager to win. Another reason why the treaty was created
was to undermine and incapacitate Germany so they could not cause another war. The people in
charge of deciding this 440 articles were the allied powers. But the most important men of this
group were ; Lloyd George, Clemenceau and Woodrow Wilson called as the big three. But each of
this men did not think in the same way. There are 2 sides of what people think about the Treaty of
Versailles. One side of the argument is that the Treaty was extremely unfair to Germany, as it took
away some of her most valuable characteristics like its colonies and army. However, the other side
of the argument is that Germany caused a lot of damage, so she deserved to be punished and
prevented from causing more trouble.

The Powerful Women In The Ovid s Metamorphoses

Women During Ancient Greece Argue if there are powerful females in the Ovid s Metamorphoses?

17 C.E, women were supposed to have kids and stay home to take care of the family and the
household. Women didn t really have any rights. The men had all the power over them. This
system is called a patriarchy. Metamorphoses was one of Ovid most famous work, It is a single

Car Vs Driving A Car
What do you think was easier to learn, to ride a bike or to drive a car? I feel both are pretty easy
to drive once you overcome the fears you have and fix the things that you struggle with. There s
a lot that goes into both a bike and a car, but some things more than others. A bike and a car are
both great ways to get around, but balance, road sense, safety and responsibility differ between
the two. To start off, a bike requires more balance. Bikes have two wheels so it s much harder to
stay up. When you first learn to ride a bike without training wheels, you have to learn how to stay
up on it first. Once you start to gain balance and are able to stay up, then you able to ride your
bike. Another thing is that it s easier to get hurt. A bike doesn t have outside protection so if you
fall or have an encounter with a car, you would get majorly hurt. Unlike a bike, a car had four
tires rather than two. So it s easier for a car to stay up since there s tires evenly supporting it. It s
one less thing to worry about when riding a bike than it is to drive a car because there s not the
first step in trying to learn how to balance when driving a car. Another thing that is different is
road sense. When riding a bike, people usually stay off to the side of the road while also being
cautious of the cars around you. Some places have a small section labeled for bikes to be ritten
and others do not, so some cyclists ride more into the street with cars. Bikes don t have blinkers
and signals

three quarters of office based employees said they feel they work best in an office at their desk,
48 percent indicated that they are frequently interrupted by colleagues. The study also showed
that the office doesn t seem to aid in increasing interpersonal communications either, with 51

physically near them, rather than talking with them directly. Besides those who work from
home during the day, the majority of employees are also spending some time after hours

Prose Commentary
Lanark: Prose Commentary 1 Lanark Prose Commentary Retno Widyanti This extract from
Lanark ,written by Alasdair Gray, is a highly evocative piece of narrative prose. Set within a
church in Lenzies, Glasgow, the excerpt illustrates the loss of love and theloss of self belief which
are inextricably intertwined for the character Duncan Thaw. Writtenin a post modern style, it is also
representative of the subjectivity of perception and its abilityto change with the passage of time.
Duncan is forced to reflect upon his experiences as he isvisited by haunting representations of his
past, in the form of two characters: Marjory and theunnamed man.The extract begins by

A simile compares his experience of loss to Вµa tongue tip returning to ahole from which a tooth

painful, a reflection of Thaw¶s absolute agony. Yet, thefeeling of returning to the hole left by the
pulled tooth is almost instinctive В± he cannot helphis thoughts returning to Marjory. Thaw is
puzzled, though: Вµhe was sure he had just seen agirl without special beauty or intelligence. He
wondered why she had been all he wanted in awoman.¶ The juxtaposition of the µgirl¶

in perception that has happened within Duncan В± the present Marjory is likened to his

unforgettable in their polite disapproval ± ³This isn¶t your usual style of work, Duncan´,
Duncan wishes he had said something µironic and memorable¶in order to leave an impression

Particle Fever Essay
Particle fever is movie about a single experiment, which lasted 19 long years and consisted of
10,000 hardworking and dedicated scientist. The whole experiment was to find a particle called
the Higgs Boson. The Higgs Boson was a particle that most scientist thought held all things of the
world together, to prove this theory that they had made the scientist had to conduct a thorough
experiment. For scientist to begin the experiment they had to collect and test different parts of
data using the LHC which was a machine that produced different elements to see if the Higgs
were even real or not. The LHC was the World s largest and most expensive machine. The LHC
was made up of seven ton electromagnets, and the purpose was to compare protons to the speed of
lighting. There are four points in the LHC which are LHCB, ATLAS, CHS, and Alice. At each
point in the LHC... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was stated that the Higgs mass was 125 GEV. The crowd at
the conference and Peter Higgs were the happiest people alive. Since the Higgs mass was
between 115 GEV and 140 GEV the scientist thought that they could prove that the Higgs was the
last piece of data they needed to say that the Higgs was a God particle and it was the particle that
made the world what it is today. After everything the LHC will be closed and shut off and after
two years goes by will be running at full power instead of half power. Scientists hoped to get
even better results than they did the first time with running the LHC. The experiment was a
huge success. There was a 20,000 prize and a Nobel Prize awarded to David Kaplan, Peter
Higgs, and Mark Levinson at the conclusion of the filming of the movie, which lasted from 2008
to 2012. The movie was not actually released until the year 2014. Many scientist today still try to

Ethnic Stereotypes In The Pawnbroker
After the Holocaust and World War II, many filmmakers and directors neglected to create
politically charged media in order to avoid criticism. Only decades after the events of the
Holocaust did Hollywood start to engage itself with the topic, but these works struggled to succeed
as they faced harsh comments from Jewish and secular critics alike. These films, produced with
truly the most sensitive and educational intentions, ended up perpetuating ethnic stereotypes for the
same reasons. There was a gap between Hollywood s preconceived notions about their productions
in regard to themes and the aspects that critics actually picked up on. Through my narrative
discovery, background on the time period, summary and analysis of the film, and contemporary
responses to the film I will explain how these stereotypes came about in film at the time and how
people responded to them while also touching on the impact of the Holocauston survivors. The
Pawnbroker is a perfect example of a film that deals with both the lasting effect of Holocaust and
the stereotyping of a multitude of characters (Dir Lumet 1964). Different audiences and critics
focus on these two pieces, characterizing the film in accordance with its timestamp.
Once assigned this paper, I started looking into the specific traits and themes that characterized
Jewish film from each decade. Jewish Experience on Film An American Overview, by Joel

Ethical Statement In Free Willy
Introduction
Willy was never really free. The killer whale star of the Hollywood movie Free Willy had to be
cared for by humans even after he was released and he never successfully integrated with his wild
kin. Researchers now say attempts to return him to the wild were misguided.
We believe the best option for [Willy] was the open pen he had in Norway, with care from his
trainers, says Malene Simon of the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, who participated in
efforts to reintegrate the cetacean in the wild and is lead author of the study. He could swim as
much as he wanted to, had plenty of frozen herring which he was very fond of and the people that
he was attached to kept him active.

Psychological Theories Of Crime
There is great debate over the reasons why people are driven to commit a crime. Numerous
theories have been developed to attempt to explain the motives that cause people to act out against
family or even strangers. There is particular attention given to the motivating factors to those who
chose to commit mass murders in the country because of the great media attention given to them.
For example, school shootings are covered extensively in the media and tend to be more well
known compared to a simple bank robbery, assault, etc. Thus, experts and everyday citizens tend to
have an interest in the psychological state of the shooter at the time of the crimeand what caused
him/her to act out in such a way. One example of this is found in the Sandy... Show more content on

nurture. For a Criminal Justice 1010 class at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Professor
Elizabeth Keller Charbonneau put together a lesson on the different theories of crime. One of
the individual level crimes in the lesson was considered Psychology: A mental illness or
personality disorder causes people to commit a crime (Keller Charbonneau, 2015). This applies
to Adam Lanza, as pointed to in the Frontline video. Without explicitly stating that Lanza was
driven by his illness, it was greatly implied. In the video special, the reporters focus on Adam s
childhood and his interactions with his mother and peers. The video states that Adam was
diagnosed with a sensory integration disorder in which he had problems with change and people
touching him. This is explained in an interview with Marvin Lafontaine in the Frontline video.
Lafontaine was a friend of Nancy Lanza, and also has a son the same age as Adam. The two were
in Boy Scouts together and during one interaction, he remembers Nancy telling him not to touch
Adam (Koughan, 2013). This seemed out of the ordinary, but it was because Adam had sensory
issues, which was later diagnosed. Along with this, Adam had issues with change, and this
escalated when his family moved to Newtown, Connecticut. Adam began school at Sandy Hook
Elementary School and was described as shy and uncomfortable in big settings (Koughan, 2013).

Hunter Gatherers Research Paper
Inquiry 2 The Hunter Gatherer
Until around the year of 10 000 BCE all of our ancestors were only hunter gatherers. Hunter
gatherers, were people who hunted for all things, in order to survive, ranging from animal meat,
their skin, nuts, fruits and much, much more. When the food on their living area became smaller
in quantity and out of season, they would move onto different territory. Our ancestors of hunter
gatherers were reported to of lived a very successful lifestyle for more than 100 000 years.
Some historians have a theory of their own, this is that the change in a hunter gatherers lifestyle to
having a settled life of farming was one of the worst mistakes humans had ever made in history.

out a way to use plants as medicine. Wild fruit that humans found was one of the simplest
sources of sugar for early people. Just as we all enjoy a bit of sugar, the early children may of

would purposely scatter fruit seeds so that it would of encouraged fruits to grow nearby.
Early humans almost hunted anything in sight that climbed, crawled, walked, flew or swam.
Animals were a main source of food, which was needed to survive in climates, especially cold

Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks
Game Theoretic Approach to Detect Selfish Attacker in Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks
Abstract In wireless communication, spectrum resources are utilized by authorities in particular
fields. Most of the elements in spectrum are idle. Cognitive radio is a promising technique for
allocating the idle spectrum into unlicensed users. Security shortage is a major challenging issue in
cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs) that makes performance degradation on spectrum
sensing and sharing. A selfish user pre occupies the accessible bandwidth for their prospect usage
and prohibits the progress secondary users whose makes the requirement for spectrum utility. Game
theoretic model is proposed to detect the selfish attacker in CRAHNs. Channel state information
(CSI) is considered to inform each user s channel handing information. The two strategy of Nash
Equilibrium game model such as pure and mixed strategy for secondary users (SUs) and selfish
secondary users (SSUs) are investigated and the selfish attacker is detected. Moreover a novel
belief updating system is also proposed to the secondary users for knowing the CSI of the primary
user. A simulation result shows that, game theoretic model is achieved to increase the detection rate
of selfish attackers.

Insomni Behavioral Interventions For Insomnia
Insomnia
Many people experience insomnia and are not even aware of how common this disorder have
become. This paper is to present an overview of behavioral interventions for insomnia. Behavioral
interventions for insomnia include relaxation training, stimulus control therapy, sleep restriction
therapy, sleep hygiene, paradoxical intention therapy, cognitive restructuring, and other approaches.
These are briefly explained in detail. Scientifically, insomnia is a general clinical term that refers to
a difficulty in initiating or maintaining sleep. Scientists contend today that insomnia is widely
prevalent in the general population, especially in the elderly and in those with medical and
psychiatric disorders. It is noted that several people complain about having a struggle when it
comes to sleeping.
This phenomenon is known as an ailment. Basically, insomnia affects the individual who has
acquired symptoms that disturbs their sleeping. and those who suffer with this often have low
disposition and are irritable. On the other hand, most patients are not functional during the day due
to not getting the sleep required at night. There are a few common sleeping disorders such as sleep
apnea, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy but insomnia is the focus. Due to the large number of
sleep disorders and complaints, the health care professionals are increasing the awareness on sleep
disturbances to better assist patients.
For the proper diagnoses overnight sleep studies are

Innocents and Hope of Children Corrupted
It is common knowledge that children represent innocence and hope for the future. Many
individuals, unfortunately, take advantage of such innocence and corrupt it. This corruption has
taken place around the world with no end in sight. The corruption of children can take place in
many forms, such as emotionally and psychologically but the most gruesome method is for
sexual exploitation and pornography. Child pornography is historically extremely difficult to
define. The first brush occurrence of child pornography with American law was the memorable
case of Jacobeelis v. Ohio 378 US 184 in 1964 (Gillespie, 2010, p. 19). In this case, the well
known phrase of I know it when I see it is used to describe how child pornographic material differs
from adult pornography by Supreme Court Justice Stewart. This phrase is still used by law
professionals today but it has caused difficulties because there is no apparent definition for law
enforcement to know what to investigate and prevent. Very late in the century, the United States,
along with England and Wales, established the first laws to handle child pornography, but there was
little guidelines set to distinguish between adult and children pornography (Gillespie, 2010, p. 20).
Distinguishing between the two categories of pornography is carried out with three main
components: the meaning of child, which is determined with biological measures such as puberty
to identify the age, the form of the material, the form that the obscene

Obergefell V. Hodges Case Study
Introduction:
The United States is considered a great nation by some. It is a nation filled with monumental
success, wealth, prosperity, opportunity, and in general, one of the most impressive nations in the
world. But, the United States is also filled with hate, discrimination, disparity, and a history riddled
with grotesque treatment of those of a varying nature known today as minorities. A minority, is a
culturally, ethnically, or racially distinct group that coexists with but is subordinate to a more
dominant group. In the United States, there are a wide array of minorities like African American,
LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender), and Women of any race or ethnicity. Although,
this a small few of the minority members in the United States, these groups have faced very large
troubles from the majority, which is classified as upper class, white males. African Americans were
made slaves, women couldn t vote, LGBT couldn t marry one another in the early years of this
nation. With the changing times more and more advances in the equal treatment of minorities come
to pass. Of all the groups mentioned, the one that has made a more recent stride is the LGTB
community, which recently has recently obtained the right to marry in every state thanks to the
Obergefell v. Hodges case.

This type of system is usually initiated by government, or as a result of pressure groups and
lobbyists campaigning for a particular disadvantaged group. It is usually found where disparities
and imbalances in employment exist as a result of discriminatory practices on the basis of race and
color, gender, disability, or any other unfair grounds not related to the job. The Civil Rights Act of
1964, as stated by Desario and Slack, outlawed discrimination in public accommodations, voting,
education, employment, and the utilization of public funds (Farazmand 2007, 355). The Equal
Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 which extended the Civil Rights Act of 1964 requirements
and it s commission was established to enforce Title VII, the employment section of the Act, and the
Office of Federal Contract Compliance to enforce the nondiscrimination requirements applied to
government contractors (Farazmand 2007, 355) on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, or
national origin. Desario and Slack argue that following the intent of the Fourteenth Amendment,
affirmative action meant public policies that afforded individuals opportunity without
discrimination. (Farazmand, 2007, 356). Later on President Kennedy used the term affirmative
action in context with racial discrimination and therefore, the goal of affirmative action would shift
from equality of opportunity to equality of outcome (Farazmand, 2007, 357). Affirmative Action is
a highly controversial policy. Its guidelines and policies have resulted in many important changes in
the selection process. They have forced public jurisdictions and public personnel professionals to

Influence of the Ancient Port of Massilia on the contemporary Port of Brisbane
Introduction
The influence of historical aspects of the built environment on contemporary infrastructure can be
recognised throughout the world today. The range of these built environment aspects that were
created and have continued to exist to the present, indicate the importance of development
throughout these times to create modern technologies. This influence can be seen through design
elements such as bridges, buildings, roads, highways and even recreational spaces in the modern
world. A specific example of this influential development is the Portof Massalia, which existed in
the northwestern part of the Mediterranean Sea (Ancient Worlds LLC, 2013). This essay will
discuss and analyse the use of history in contemporary urban forms with a strong emphasis on the
Port of Massilia in comparison with the Port of Brisbane, whilst providing evidence on the
similarities and differences of these historical and contemporary designs.
Influence of history
The book Concepts of Urban Design by David Gosling and Barry Maitland has stated that,
History provides a large number of traditional urban forms which have survived the passage of
time and which work to a greater or lesser degree. (Gosling Maitland, 1984). This statement
provides some evidence to show that even professionals in the planning world recognise and base
some urban designs on traditional urban forms . Examples of this range from

The 2011 Customer Experience Impact Report projected that 86% of consumers will pay up to
25% more for a better customer experience (2). In the paragraphs below, good customer service is
broken down into the definition, what the customer and employer view is, and how good customer
service affects the reputation of the business.
Definition
According to Customer Service for Dummies, customer service is how well an employee is
communicating and creating a relationship with a customer (1). Each business has either a mission
statement or purpose that incorporates customer service into it. Customer service policies within
businesses define how their employees should behavior when a situation arises with a customer.
An example of a customer service policy is the policy stated on the Fairfield Inn Suites in Grand
Island on its website. The policy states, At the Grand Island Fairfield Inn Suites, you are our #1
priority. We promise you will be satisfied, or we will make it right. That is our commitment to you.
Policies like this one show how some businesses take customer service very seriously because their

The health industry has become the most attractive targets for cyber criminals, because of the large
volumes of protected health, personals, and financial data that are retained. Therefore, it is no
surprise that they have become such a popular target among cyber criminal organizations.
Cybercriminals utilizes various methods to obtain the information they are seeking from both
medical insurance and health industry corporations.
These methods include:
Insider threats stealing patient records and other sensitive information while working for a
company that maintains these types of records.
Using old criminal tactics such as bribing or threatening physical harm to employee with access to
records.
Hackers breaking into record data bases, utilizing malware to steal email, dumpster diving, and
skimming data from various storage devices.
Social engineering techniques, such as posing as a legitimate employee, or business to request
certain data.
The greatest threat to the health industry when it comes to loss of patient data is the insider threat,
a current or former employee who has access to sensitive information, and a reason to utilize this

quiet operations, safety and security. Make sure that the one you select has enough power to handle
the weight of this garage door. Additionally it is important to select an opener that features a quiet
operation. Who d want a boisterous opener anyway? It becomes extremely inconvenient, especially
if you have a bedroom put beside or previously mentioned the garage.

The Environmental Disasters Of The World And Living Things...
What is Missing?
Pollution has plagued the world and living things within it since the industrial revolution and the
development of new technology. While some people might know the effects of the environmental
disasters that have occurred through the years, other do not. Maya Lin created a collaborative
memorial to try to gear people s attention to the problems being faced in the environment. The
collaborative memorial can easily be accessed by anyone who has a computer and internet access.
For example, the BP oil spill affected a great number of living things and marine animals, due to a
human error and the failure to clear up the problem efficiently. Another example is the Flint
Water Crisis that caused innocent children to become deathly sick due to the lack of necessary
chemicals. Another example about pollution is the Great Smog of 1952, which occurred in
London, the smog lasted for five days and killed about 4,000 people. Most of the people that
were affected by the smog were children, the elderly, and people with respiratory problems. The
memorial is meant to shine light on the living things that are going extinct around us and how we
as humans have contributed to their extinction. Its purpose is to evoke empathy, better
understanding, guilt, sorrow, and even rage. By creating the memorial, everyone s eyes can be
open to the negative effects that our pollution has caused the world. The memorial also provides
ways people can make a difference in the world where living

Cultural Consideration Paper
Cultural Consideration Western generational models can not be applied broadly to a global
workforce. (Erickson, 2011, p. 1) The events that shaped the generations in the United States did
not necessarily happen around the world. Other countries and cultures have had their own
monolithic events to shape their beliefs and character. While events such as World War II did
happen globally, not every country was involve in that war and did not have the same experience
as say people in the United Kingdom and United States might have had. The potential exception to
this rule is the proposed Generation Y and Millennials who have globally had access to the same
information due to increasing availability of technology. In a recent email report... Show more

As new employees come in to an organization there should be a uniform way to impart
information to help the individual assimilate to the corporate culture as quickly as possible. In
an effort to gain consistency this usually means that people come in and get a crash course on
systems and logistics. Traditionalist may prefer a mentor with similar ideals. Baby Boomers
may want a structured training session. Generation Xers may prefer an online training class and
Millennials might prefer something in a group setting so they can start building relationships.
So how does a corporation efficiently and effectively offer all of these options? They usually can
not separately, but components of each can be integrated into an onboarding and development
plan so that all people are receiving the key information in a way that they best assimilate such
information. Situational Leadership Situational Leadership was a model originally developed
by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard to effectively assess what each person needs from leadership
on each task. (Hersey, 2004) Dr. Hersey and Blanchard parted ways and put their own spin on
the same model but it still stands that it works and can be applied to any person of any age with
any task. The key is that the leader has to be perceptive and fluid in leadership styles. One of the

The Life Of Malcolm X
The life of Malcolm X, who was murdered forty years ago this month, spanned a trajectory from
oppression and victimization to inchoate rebellion and revolutionary autonomy. His was a voyage
from resistance to an informed radicalism. It was a journey from which he ultimately gathered
political and historical insight which, combined with his tools of persuasion and skills at
leadership, made him at the time of his death arguably the most dangerous figure in this country s
history to confront its ruling class. For us, forty years later, Malcolm s life is also informative: both

Effects Of Xenia In The Iliad
Xenia is an obligatory, socially regulated hospitality shown to suppliants and strangers by god
fearing hosts. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When
welcomed in to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably this then
transitions to the food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment,
but rather is symbolic of a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find
asylum from the woes of travel. It is the recipient s responsibility to treat the host with respect, as
they are visitors. I assert that xenia has a direct effect on a relationship and its ensuing trajectory
because respect is the foundation of xenia; these effects can be seen throughout The Iliadand The
Odyssey, particularly in the interactions of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Agamemnon refused (Homer The Iliad 1.24 32). Agamemnon s refusal itself did not violate

Margaret Sanger And The Comstock Act Of 1873
Margaret Sanger and the Comstock Act of 1873 Rough Draft
The U.S. women s movement had its beginnings in 1848 when Elizabeth Cady Stanton and
Lucretia Mott called the Seneca Falls Convention in New York to discuss the social, civil, and
religious condition and rights of woman (Women s History in the U.S....). Over time, this inspired
many women to stand up for their own beliefs and for the better for women in future generations.
During World War I, the high birth rates led to food and supply shortages, and disease which
mainly affected those in poverty (Putting Margaret Sanger s Ideas in Context). At the time, a
woman s life revolved around bringing food home and onto the table which became an issue with
the lack of supplies and the best foods would be given to men (Comstockery in America). As a
nurse visiting, Margaret Sanger witnessed and met immigrant working mothers who were deeply
impacted by unexpected pregnancies and botched miscarriages (Amory). Margaret Sanger violated
the Comstock Act of 1873 of 1873 because she wanted to advocate women s rights which resulted
in a conflict between Sanger and the those against her ideas, and the laws that suppressed her from
advocating. As a result, as a compromise of the amendment of the Comstock Act after she gained
support from her article and supporters which resulted in Planned Parenthood, the ability to
distribute contraceptives, and a new found support for women to have more control over their lives.

Tax Saving Strategies
Tax Saving Strategies over the Holidays
As the year winds down, it can be easy to get caught up in Christmas parties and bonuses without
thinking through the tax ramifications. While it s easy to spend over the holidays, business
owners can also save, with a bit of planning. Here are tax saving strategies for your business over
the holidays:
Deduct Christmas Gifts
It s great to acknowledge your employees hard work and what better way to do so than with
Christmas presents? From a tax perspective, your best money saving strategy is to take advantage
of gift deductions, within the set IRS limits.

To save yourself the burden of having to give the bonus every year just in case you don t make a
profit one year announce the bonus as a one time event.
An S Corp can deduct bonuses to owners and shareholders, provided that they own their shares at
the time when the bonuses are paid. As for C Corporations, the rules are a bit narrower. These
organizations can only claim the bonuses that are paid to owners and shareholders who have 50
percent or higher ownership at the time when the bonuses are paid.
For LLCs, sole proprietorships, and partnerships, the rules differ slightly again. Unfortunately,
bonuses cannot be deducted as business expenses as the IRS considers the owners, members, and
partners to be self employed.
Deduct Employee Awards
If you like to give awards to your employees at Christmas, be sure to keep your receipts for these
items if they are tangible personal property according to your state s tax department. An example of
such tangible property is a

The Importance Of Technology In Feed
In the futuristic world M.T Anderson creates in Feed, the misuse of technology is a problem the
world faces. The novel Feed describes how the world could be in the future if humans let
technology rule their lives. Anderson wants the reader to realize the effect technology has on our

Therefore, Anderson, fearing that one day technology will surpass humanity by creating a society
of idiots like in the novel Feed, warns the reader from the futureour society might face if we don t

The novel describes scenarios of the world where we live. For example: people are becoming less

I Am A Math Lesson Essay
For my second lesson, I decided to conduct a math lesson as I had never conducted a math lesson
in an elementary classroom let alone a 3rd grade classroom. I discussed with my CT what math
concept I could teach that pertained to one of the 3rd grade standards. My CT told me that I
could introduce the new concept of area to the class on the Friday that I was supposed to teach
my lesson. I knew that that introducing a new topic on a Friday in an elementary classroom was
not ideal as the majority of teachers that I have observed in the past usually wrap up their week s
lessons on Friday. The Friday I was conducting my lesson was also a shorten day due to Fall
Break, so I thought the students would show some off task behavior for the early release day.
These circumstances made me think hard about how I was going to introduce the concept of area
to the students in an effective way. I knew that I needed to have a lesson that included an
exploratory hands on activity to keep the students engaged and wanting to learn. Therefore, I
decided to use cheese crackers as manipulatives to represent square units. The students were to first
guess what the area of the different shapes in a worksheet packet were and then they were to use
the crackers to figure out the actually area of the different shapes. I had been grading the students
weekly math quizzes that pertained to arrays and multiplicationa couple of weeks prior to my lesson
which helped me presses the students knowledge on

What Is The Theme Of Iago In Othello
Honest, meaning free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere. All of which Iago is not. This can be
surprising considering the numerous times the word honest is used in Othello to reference Iago.
Throughout the play the audience gets a first hand look of how Iago contributes to the theme of

  • 3. Amazon s Mechanical Turk ( M Turk ) Essay Introduction The present study was an initial test for an online version of the road salting task. There was a potential concern that the advantage of numeric uncertainty was only restricted to population that had always been used as participants: young adults with some college education. Would other populations benefit from numeric uncertainty information as well? Additionally, all previous data had been collected in a laboratory setting with an experimenter monitoring task progress and preventing any outside distractions. Indeed, relative to traditional laboratory environment, many aspects of the online testing environment are not under the experimenter s control. Participants could be distracted by simultaneously completing other online tasks or attending to other aspects of their environment. It is unsurprising that unsupervised subjects tend to be less attentive than subjects in a lab with an experimenter (Oppenheimer, Meyvis, Davidenko, 2009). Would this affect road salting responses? The online testing environment used for this project was Amazon s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). The M Turk is a platform for thousands of response tasks covering a wide range of topics. Respondents complete tasks for small monetary rewards. Evidence suggests that M Turk samples are reliable and reasonably representative of the general public and data quality does not seem affected by payment amount (Buhrmester, Kwang, Gosling, 2011; Mason Watts, 2009; Paolacci, Chandler, Ipeirotis, ... According to Michelle Albert M.D., Stress is a natural part of life (Is stress making you sick, 2012). It is when the stress becomes too much that it can become unhealthy. • 5. Rifleman Dodd Essays RIFLEMAN DODD: A NOVEL OF THE PENINSULAR CAMPAIGN The story in the book talks about an infantry warrior named Private Matthew Dodd and his journey to re unite with his fellow soldiers. The British army was retreating to the lines of Torres Vedras and Dodd was left behind since he separated from his comrades during the retreat in Portugal behind enemy lines. He knew that he had to do one thing, and that was to kill all the Frenchmen. Private Dodd ran through a lot of problems during his journey trying to find his way back to his men. With some help here and there from the natives, but mostly his own, he raids the French with his rifle to try and prevent them from building a bridge across the Tagus River. With him doing this, he gave himself the hopes to not only sustain the little amount of food he had but also the strength and energy that he was going to need in case he would end up in the heat of battle. After traveling many miles on foot, Dodd crept through several fields during the day and night time so that he wouldn t run into any Frenchmen. He was seen by Frenchmen, so the French started to fire at Dodd and still missed. Dodd fired back and took out numerous amounts of men. As the day goes by, Dodd starts to feel like he could no longer walk, his next challenge was that he had to go through during his separation was the battle of fatigue. It was really starting to tear him away. Fatigue is a major factor to a person who is in the heat of battle because a person can do so much to keep their strength and move forward without stopping or giving up. It was hard for Rifleman Dodd because he had been starving for days but he still found the durability to look beyond himself and continue to fight to return back to his men. He had a plan of attack to help him sleep at night and continue on with his mission in the morning by using tactics. For example, one night he slept with his pack on his back sitting straight up with his rifle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Rock And Roll Music Genre Analysis Q1: Of all the genres studied this semester, list 3 that you feel have been the most socially /politically influential over time. Back up your choices with reasons and examples? While many genres have been substantially influential over time both socially and politically, I feel that rock and roll genre, country music genre, and African American roots genre. Rock and Roll Music Genre This genre s popularity has in time resulted in immense influence thus greatly impacting the society in facets such as the daily lives of individuals, the language, fashion, and attitudes. In fact, the genre s influence on social development can only be equaled by a few other music genres. Rock and roll music enabled the blending of white and black music essentially bringing down the racial boundaries in the 1950s which resulted and encouraged the racial desegregation of the 1960s. Additionally, the American racial civil movements that occurred in the 1960s were greatly influenced by this music genre. More so, people especially young teenagers were greatly influenced by the genre as well as the celebrities themselves, which led to a new style of fashion altogether. Apart from this, rock and roll music would result to more people understanding the core importance of education in dealing with social problems such as racism and poverty. Country Music Genre Country music genre has been associated with the American culture for a long time, in fact, the music has significance socially in that it has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Role of Political Clubs on Frnech Revolution History, Piotrek Szumowski Assess the role of the political clubs for the course of the French Revolution The revolution begun in 1789 with the meeting of the states general. Soon later the Bastille was stormed (till this day French celebrate it as their national holiday), the king was executed and a new constitution was written up. By 1799, end of the revolution, a new time had come not just for the French government, but for all. The revolution was to have an astonishing impact on world affairs, and its effect can be directly seen today. What french political clubs existed at the time and what part did they play during the course of that revolution? One by one I will try to answer this question by looking at how each political party ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However The most prominent figure of this club has to be Maximillien Robespierre the leader and founder of the club, and the man responsible behind the reign of terror. As soon as the Jacobins dominated the political scene with the backing of the Paris Mob and commune the so called reign of terror begun (more bellow). The fall of Robespierre meant the fall of the Jacobins, but their spirit lived on in revolutionary doctrine. Girondins Girondins or otherwise called Gerondists were a slightly less radical political club. Even though they encouraged the revolution they tried to carry it out at a calmer and slower rate. They were against the execution of the king, however they did not manage to persuade other clubs to their ideas. During the revolutionary assembly they engaged into personal rivalry against the Jacobins and Cordeliers, which eventually led to their downfall. Their main achievement was persuading the others to declare war on Austria. Unfortunately with Dumouriez s treason, who deflected to the Austrians, they re position considerably fell. • 9. Animal Farm By George Orwell The ninety five page novella, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell. Aimed at teenagers and adults, it cleverly shows the flaws within society and how we will never change. This timeless classic was converted into an hour and ten minute long film (in 1954) which is suitable and supposedly appealing to young children. However, the conversion between the novella and the cartoon meant having to cut down and alter some of the storyline and characters within the novella to suit this age range but at the same time, trying not to lose the basic structure of the novella and the messages given out by George Orwell throughout the book. I felt that on a whole, the cartoon version of Animal Farm did not maintain the textual integrity to the novella. However, you find that this is the case with most films that have been converted from books. Although the basic storyline of the novella was suitable for children, the meaning behind it was beyond the understanding of this age range. I feel that the producers took on a very hard task to try and convert this high standard novella into a film for all ages. The purpose of the novella was clear, it is a piece of political satire, mainly concerning the Russian Revolution. I did not feel however, that this came across in the film in any way. The film was clearly aimed at children, as the simplicity of the converted storyline was obvious. Although they kept to the basic structure of the novella, I felt that they did not successfully altar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Soviet Union Research Paper COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION To understand why unlike the Soviet Union s political system, China s is not near collapse, one must first understand why and how the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) collapsed, resulting in the collapse of the Soviet Union itself. After the October Revolution, the CPSU adopted Leninism as the main party ideology, and moved swiftly to adopt socialist changes. However, as Lenin s health declined, his main supporters, Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, began fighting amongst themselves. Stalin won, forcing Trotsky into exile, and after Lenin s death, began implementing a series of policies known as Stalinism to solidify his totalitarian rule. Partly influenced by fascism, Stalin promoted the cult of personality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leonid Brezhnev, who took power after Khrushchev, attempted to reinstate Stalinism back into the Soviet Union. His reign created the neo Stalinist period in Russia, albeit with a series of economic reforms that favored light industries and the production of consumer goods than heavy industry. Brezhnev also supported weakening animosities with the West in order to improve relations, attempting to improve the social and economic condition within the Soviet Union. However, due to health problems, much of the actual implementation was carried out by others within the CPSU leadership. Being on average older than the general population, the CPSU leadership was mostly conservative, which hindered the progress. Overall, through trying to combine the conservative and relatively outdated ideologies of Stalinism with failing economic reforms, Brezhnev was credited with the Era of Stagnation in the Soviet Union, being unable to deal with both internal and international affairs. Following Brezhnev was Yuri Andropov, a reformist who, during his short time as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, pushed for more freedom in media and appointed several other reformers into key positions in the CPSU. Konstantin Chernenko, who took power against Andropov s wishes following his demise, attempted to shift back into the Brezhnev era policies, while also promoting reforms in education and the role of labor unions. However, poor health prevented him from properly implementing policies, and de facto power remained with reformer Mikhail Gorbachev. By this point, the constant fighting between reformists and Stalinists, together with conflicting and ineffective policies, had severely damaged the Soviet economy, as well as deteriorated international relations, escalating the Cold War, and slowly worsened socioeconomic and political tensions within ... • 12. Research Paper On The Explosion Of The Sultana The explosion of the Sultana How is it possible that over 1,700 people could die and it not make it to the front cover of the newspapers? This seems impossible, but that s exactly what happened back in 1865. April 27, 1865 the Sultana exploded and over 1,700 people were killed. Sad to say but this event barely made it to the newspapers because of Abraham s Lincoln s death. At the time of this event a war had just ended and Abraham lincolnhad just died and everyone was worried about the funeral at the time of this disaster. You are usually very comfortable with your own self taking pictures and not others, therefore you can be funny, nerdy, or sexy without feeling judged. Timemagazine reports that selfies can just be an outlet of self expression and we shouldn t be so consumed with all the selfies floating in cyber space. Self captured images allow young adults and teens to express their mood states and share important experiences, says Dr. Andrea Letamendi, a clinical psychologist and research fellow at UCLA. As teens and adolescents try to form their identity, selfies serve as a way to test how they look, and therefore feel, in certain outfits, make up, poses and places. And because we live in a digital world, selfies provide a way of participating and interacting with that world. Selfies has also allowed women to publicly celebrate their flaws. For example, Demi Lovato has posted selfies to Instagram without any makeup on and has encouraged her fans to do likewise. • 14. Essay about Wal-Mart The founder of the Wal Mart chain, Sam Walton was born in March 1918 in the town of Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Graduating from the University of Missouri, Sam enlisted in the Army for the World War II effort. Upon his return, Sam worked for a while at the J.C. Penney group of stores. He began to realize that opportunities existed in the large scale discount retailing business (nickel and dime stores). The idea and business philosophy of Wal Mart borrowed from the nickel and dime stores of earlier times, and consisted of getting National Brands in bulk at a discount based on volume purchases; the company would then stamp its mark and resell the goods at a slight markup, this rate being however less than the other competing Mom and Pop stores... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet in the sphere of business, he was a radical trend setter. Choosing to be innovative and aggressive, the founder of Wal Mart took the large scale discount retailing business to new heights and down new avenues. Sam borrowed a lot of ideas for his early stores from Kmart and others. But it was what he chose to do differently В– the ways he put his own stamp on the basic business model В– that made Wal Mart so fabulously successful. His model was the same as Kmart s, but his strategy was unique. From the very beginning, Walton chose to serve a different group of customers. At that time, the 10 largest discounters (in 1962) focused on large metropolitan areas and cities like New York. Wal Mart s key strategy was to put good size stores into little one horse towns which everybody else was ignoring. He sought out isolated rural towns with populations between 5,000 25,000, and correctly bet that if his stores could match or beat the city prices, people would shop at home. Since Wal Mart s markets tended to be too small to support more than one large retailer, eventually the small local competitors went out of business, making the whole area Wal Mart territory. Wal Mart also took a different approach to merchandising and pricing than its competitors. While competitors relied heavily on private label goods, second tier brands and price promotions, Wal Mart promised National Brands at everyday low prices. The company pursued efficiency and ... Although, at this time Argentina was flourishing due to its exportation of valuable goods, this small sectored economy ultimately was the first factor that set the tone of economic depression in Argentina, as the economy revolved around the cultivation and exportation of commodity goods. This trend was consistent until the 1800 s, the latter of the colonial period, where trade saw a decline due to the Napoleonic Wars. The decline was driven by tariff barriers and high transpiration costs, resulting in the Consumer Price Index rising by 64 points. Upon its newly found independence, Argentina s economic struggles arose once again and would last for the next couple of decades as a result from tension between the creole and remaining Spanish elites. Argumentatives Of The Treaty Of Versailles The Treaty of Versailles was signed on 28 June 1919 exactly five years after the assassination of the Duke Franz Ferdinand ,the trigger cause of the war. The Treaty consisted of 440 Articles setting out the terms for Germany s punishment. It was one of the numerous treaties at the end of World War One. The reason of this treaty was to reward the allied powers which fought against Germany or suffered any of Germany s eager to win. Another reason why the treaty was created was to undermine and incapacitate Germany so they could not cause another war. The people in charge of deciding this 440 articles were the allied powers. But the most important men of this group were ; Lloyd George, Clemenceau and Woodrow Wilson called as the big three. But each of this men did not think in the same way. There are 2 sides of what people think about the Treaty of Versailles. One side of the argument is that the Treaty was extremely unfair to Germany, as it took away some of her most valuable characteristics like its colonies and army. • 19. Car Vs Driving A Car What do you think was easier to learn, to ride a bike or to drive a car? I feel both are pretty easy to drive once you overcome the fears you have and fix the things that you struggle with. There s a lot that goes into both a bike and a car, but some things more than others. A bike and a car are both great ways to get around, but balance, road sense, safety and responsibility differ between the two. To start off, a bike requires more balance. Bikes have two wheels so it s much harder to stay up. When you first learn to ride a bike without training wheels, you have to learn how to stay up on it first. Once you start to gain balance and are able to stay up, then you able to ride your bike. Another thing is that it s easier to get hurt. A bike doesn t have outside protection so if you fall or have an encounter with a car, you would get majorly hurt. Unlike a bike, a car had four tires rather than two. So it s easier for a car to stay up since there s tires evenly supporting it. It s one less thing to worry about when riding a bike than it is to drive a car because there s not the first step in trying to learn how to balance when driving a car. Another thing that is different is road sense. When riding a bike, people usually stay off to the side of the road while also being cautious of the cars around you. Some places have a small section labeled for bikes to be ritten and others do not, so some cyclists ride more into the street with cars. Bikes don t have blinkers and signals ... Only decades after the events of the Holocaust did Hollywood start to engage itself with the topic, but these works struggled to succeed as they faced harsh comments from Jewish and secular critics alike. These films, produced with truly the most sensitive and educational intentions, ended up perpetuating ethnic stereotypes for the same reasons. There was a gap between Hollywood s preconceived notions about their productions in regard to themes and the aspects that critics actually picked up on. This applies to Adam Lanza, as pointed to in the Frontline video. Without explicitly stating that Lanza was driven by his illness, it was greatly implied. In the video special, the reporters focus on Adam s childhood and his interactions with his mother and peers. The two were in Boy Scouts together and during one interaction, he remembers Nancy telling him not to touch Adam (Koughan, 2013). This seemed out of the ordinary, but it was because Adam had sensory issues, which was later diagnosed. Along with this, Adam had issues with change, and this escalated when his family moved to Newtown, Connecticut. • 31. Innocents and Hope of Children Corrupted It is common knowledge that children represent innocence and hope for the future. Many individuals, unfortunately, take advantage of such innocence and corrupt it. This corruption has taken place around the world with no end in sight. The corruption of children can take place in many forms, such as emotionally and psychologically but the most gruesome method is for sexual exploitation and pornography. Child pornography is historically extremely difficult to define. The first brush occurrence of child pornography with American law was the memorable case of Jacobeelis v. Ohio 378 US 184 in 1964 (Gillespie, 2010, p. 19). In this case, the well known phrase of I know it when I see it is used to describe how child pornographic material differs from adult pornography by Supreme Court Justice Stewart. This phrase is still used by law professionals today but it has caused difficulties because there is no apparent definition for law enforcement to know what to investigate and prevent. Very late in the century, the United States, along with England and Wales, established the first laws to handle child pornography, but there was little guidelines set to distinguish between adult and children pornography (Gillespie, 2010, p. 20). Distinguishing between the two categories of pornography is carried out with three main components: the meaning of child, which is determined with biological measures such as puberty to identify the age, the form of the material, the form that the obscene ... • 34. Obergefell V. Hodges Case Study Introduction: The United States is considered a great nation by some. It is a nation filled with monumental success, wealth, prosperity, opportunity, and in general, one of the most impressive nations in the world. But, the United States is also filled with hate, discrimination, disparity, and a history riddled with grotesque treatment of those of a varying nature known today as minorities. A minority, is a culturally, ethnically, or racially distinct group that coexists with but is subordinate to a more dominant group. In the United States, there are a wide array of minorities like African American, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender), and Women of any race or ethnicity. Although, this a small few of the minority members in the United States, these groups have faced very large troubles from the majority, which is classified as upper class, white males. African Americans were made slaves, women couldn t vote, LGBT couldn t marry one another in the early years of this nation. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, as stated by Desario and Slack, outlawed discrimination in public accommodations, voting, education, employment, and the utilization of public funds (Farazmand 2007, 355). The Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 which extended the Civil Rights Act of 1964 requirements and it s commission was established to enforce Title VII, the employment section of the Act, and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance to enforce the nondiscrimination requirements applied to government contractors (Farazmand 2007, 355) on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, or national origin. This influence can be seen through design elements such as bridges, buildings, roads, highways and even recreational spaces in the modern world. A specific example of this influential development is the Portof Massalia, which existed in the northwestern part of the Mediterranean Sea (Ancient Worlds LLC, 2013). This essay will discuss and analyse the use of history in contemporary urban forms with a strong emphasis on the Port of Massilia in comparison with the Port of Brisbane, whilst providing evidence on the similarities and differences of these historical and contemporary designs. Influence of history The book Concepts of Urban Design by David Gosling and Barry Maitland has stated that, History provides a large number of traditional urban forms which have survived the passage of time and which work to a greater or lesser degree. I had been grading the students weekly math quizzes that pertained to arrays and multiplicationa couple of weeks prior to my lesson which helped me presses the students knowledge on ...
