Personal Identity In The Overcoat And The Nose
In Gogol s The Overcoat , an every man apparently becomes something more by replacing his
overcoat. In Gogol s The Nose , a man is temporarily reduced to nothing upon literally losing his nose.
In both texts, the interplay of dreams and reality serve to highlight Gogol s issues with the fabric of
Russian society and personal identity by creating unconventional narration, a dynamic perspective,
and characterization.
In the beginning stages of both the The Overcoat and The Nose , the reader is introduced to the
respective protagonists through an unconventional first person narration. In both stories, the narrator
acknowledges the fourth wall and addresses the audience as if he were an external storyteller
verbalizing the respective stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, the transition in perspective makes the state of reality unclear, and serves to highlight the
supreme importance rank holds in Gogol s society. If The Nose was only told from Kovalyov s point
of view, for example, it may have been possible he hallucinated or dreamed the entire thing. By
initially making the perspective that of the barber, Gogol makes his story much more surreal; either
Kovalyov s nose is literally walking about St. Petersburg, or St. Petersberg is experiencing some kind
of surreal, shared phantasm. This surrealism allows Gogol to highlight the absurdity of the situation:
At first, the barber is afraid that he has found Kovalyov s nose, but after the nose is masquerading
about the streets with certain clothes and minor embellishments, it is treated with such reverence that
even Kovalyov treats his own nose as an official of higher rank. It is only when Kovalyov files a
report with the police that his nose is finally returned to him, and even then the police officer had
trouble recognizing the nose as not being a high ranking official. Through the surrealism brought
about by dynamic perspective, Gogol highlights the absurdity of how much his society focuses on
rank. While the interplay of dream and reality generate the dynamic, surrealist perspective in The
Nose and The Overcoat , the nature of dreams and reality also directly affects

John Robby Personality
High school is its own society. There is a social standard that everyone must follow. It is not like when
people are children. When someone is a child, they are friends with everyone. The moment that they
walk up to someone they are instant friends. They could talk for hours, and just start playing games
with each other. High school is not like that. Everyone is in groups, and what group a student is in will
influence their personality. Once someone is in a group, it is almost impossible to change. In Our Time
, John Wideman shows how many things influence Robby s personality, which in the end, caused him
to commit crimes. Society and his friend group are just two of those things. Robby s life may have
turned out much differently if he would have grown up in a different neighborhood that had more
people of the same race as himself. His life would ve also been very different if he started hanging
around a different type of people. You know, partying and stuff in Garfield because that s where the
niggers were (Wideman 643). Robby hung out with people who liked to party, which caused him to do
the same.Robby s life was influenced by his surroundings, and so did mine when I first entered high
school. High school also causes people to grow up faster. There is a mountain of responsibility that
affects people s lives . In Our Secret , Susan Griffin tells the reader about the pressure that Heinrich
Himmler s father put on Heinrich. The weight of that hand could not be comforting.

Benefits Of Carbohydrate Restriction For Diabetes And The...
Since two thirds of American adults are currently overweight or obese, doctors find it hard to find the
best diet for their patients. The list of choices and categories is lengthy, with vocal advocates for the
Atkins diet, the Zone diet, South Beach diet, Jenny Craig, Vegan/vegetarian diet, and the cousin to the
Atkins diet the Paleo diet, etc. If any of these diets was sufficiently effective and easily adopted by
Americans we wouldn t be faced with such an obesity epidemic. The truth is there is no simple answer
because everybody is different; doctors should recommend whatever diet the patient can best adhere to
(Louis Kuristzky, MD, 2014). Because being overweight or obese can lead to diabetes and the
inability of current recommendations to control this epidemic has failed. They now see the benefits of
carbohydrate restriction to treat diabetes and the studies are well documented. A low carbohydrate diet
is the first approach to reduce high blood glucose, and lead to the reduction or elimination of
medication without side effects (Richard D. Feinman, 2015). There are concerns about the efficacy
and safety of a low carbohydrate diet that has always surrounded this method of weight loss, but it s
more conjecture then data driven (Feinman, 2015). Critics believe that diets such as Atkins has
potential negative effects on bone health, renal functions and cardiovascular health. In the matter of
bone health the concern was that there will be an increased level of

Trends Of Optical Communication
Industry Trends
Large, monolithic satellites are slowly being overtaken by Distributed Space Systems (DSS)
comprised of a network or networks of multiple inexpensive, small, smart satellites. Thus,
necessitating the need for intersatellite communications. This trend is primarily prompted by cost and
the commercialization of space. An ancillary by product of this trend is the push towards the use of
Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) Plus (aka.: upscreened) parts. Foregoing space rated parts has been
made possible as a result of the standardization and accreditation of the terrestrial fiber optics industry.

that would be appropriate for multiple uses.
BridgeSat, Inc., an Allied Minds Federal Innovations subsidiary company (AMFI), has co invented an

The Importance Of The Washington Monument
The Washington Monument is one of the most important monuments because it s a monument for our
first president, George Washington! I remember learning about George Washington in history class
and something that stuck with me was that he said not to split into two political parties. Unfortunately,
we did not listen and here we are voting every 4 or 8 years for a new president! I remember visiting
the Washington Monument with my family when I was younger and I was amazing to see that the
monument was in 2 different colors! This is because the National Washington Monument Society did
not have enough money to complete the monument (National Park Service, 5.) In 1884 the U.S.
Government took hold of the project and used a marble from a different

The Man From A Peddler s Family
Disagreements Turn Into Agreements
People disagree often when it comes to politics. We are all entitled to our own opinions. Some of us
choose to voice our opinions, while others keep their opinions to themselves. The relationship
between Zhu Yanda (Zhu) and Gao in The Man from a Peddler s family, shows a very typical
disagreement on politics.
Not only is this story about politics, there are also hidden themes throughout that are not easily
discernable by some. One of those hidden themes is friendship and effects the relationship has on the
process of changing one party s original opinion. Both Gao and Zhu see the world differently, yet
despite their differences they still remain friends. One follows all the rules of the government, and the
other walks to the beat of his own drum when it comes to politics. It is the difference of opinions we
have that keeps the world running smoothly. Our difference of opinions is what makes us grow, and
sometimes we change our opinions for the better. When we disagree and argue we make one another
better people making one another see outside their box. These two characters grow and change by the
end of the story by showing each other a different view on government. They both end up
understanding the other person s point of view. This story displays political themes and themes about
friendship, disagreements, and changing of friend s opinions.

The Impact Of The Treaty Of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty signed between Germany and the Allies. It was to stop the war to
end all wars (Woodrow Wilson). Every country or colony entered in this war had suffered immense
loss and unbelievable damage to the landscape where the battle had taken place. The Treaty was meant
to finally bring peace to the world, but instead, it only let more problems arise. Worse ones that
certainly had not been intended for. The Treaty of Versailles only brought peace for so long, and after
twenty one years, another devastating war had been released on the world. However, the repercussions
are solely because of the Treaty of Versailles, as it put all of the costs of the war on Germany,
including taking responsibility for starting it in the first place.
As to speak, Germany took the very rough brunt of the war. Including the costs that Britain didn t
want to deal with, and instead passed the blame. Germany was forced to take responsibility for
starting the war and all the losses and casualties to the Allied Forces. There were also countless other
financial weights that they had to deal with after the treaty was signed. Of course, and with good
reason as well, the German people were outraged by this. The treaty had been written only by the
Allies, and Germany was forced to play under their will if the country didn t want to be invaded or
annexed by the other side. It was a threat they knew would be carried out. Even to this, Germany
suffered great injustice, whether

My Passion For Beauty
Since a young age, my life has been centered on artistic expression and a fascination for beauty. At the
age of 9, I told my scientist mother and mathematician father that I wanted to be a ballerina. My
parents were always big supporters of the arts, and encouraged me to try many creative outlets. They
had no notion that my weekly ballet and tap classes would turn into a career to prosper. From that
moment on, my life revolved around ballet. I loved every minute of the self expression and precession
that ballet gave me that all of the sacrifices felt worthwhile. From 12 years old and on, I spent my days
training for 8 to 10 hours, filling any free time with schoolwork through my online school, The
Keystone School. I was constantly surrounded by musicians, costume designers, set designers, and
other performing artists that were also forgoing a normal life to honor their craft. I spent almost every
summer of my high school years in New York City attending classed during the day at Lincoln Center
with The School of American Ballet and The Bolshoi Ballet Summer Intensive, while spending my
evenings in awe of the professional dancers performing at The Met. For four years, I competed as a
finalist at Youth America Grand Prix, having opportunity to compete with the other top ballet dancers
from all over the world. Although I m forever grateful for the opportunities ballet brought me, like
many dancers, I eventually became burned out by being overworked in a career I had little

The History of Disneyland
In 1955, Disneyland was created by Walt Disney because of his love for cartoons and continued to be
built by Roy in 1966 after Walt Disney s death. Walt Disney was born December 5, 1901in Chicago,
Illinois. He did not have the idea childhood due to his family being financially unstable and his father
was not the nicest to him. As a child Walt s father Elias believed in corporate punishment and beat him
regularly. Since the family was poor, they had to move around a lot so they could find jobs. Walt and
his brothers were forced to get jobs at young ages to help pay the bills for the family. In 1910, Walt
moved out to a farm in Kansas City, Missouri. On the farm, Walt would sketch the animals with
charcoal and that was when he developed his love for drawing cartoons. In 1919 Walt completed his
service in the Red Cross. He then moved back to Kansas City where he got a job in a Commercial Art
Studio. While working in the Studio Walt became friends with Ub Iwerks. He would later become the
key animator for the Walt Disney studios. Disney and Iwerks formed a short lived business that
Disney took the remaining assets and 15,000 from local investors to create laugh o gram films and to
move out to LA. Once in LA, Disney called Margaret Winkler, a film distributor, to announce his
production of the laugh o grams. The laugh o grams featured a live girl, Alice who interacted with
animated characters. In 1923 Winkler agreed to buy half a dozen Alive in Cartoonland films. Later

Visions Of Light Analysis
The documentary Visions of Light was made for the purpose of showing the art of cinematography.
Cinematography was defined throughout the film as the making of a motion picture. I found out that I
was unconsciously responding to light. said by Ernest Dickerson an American film director and
cinematographer. Light is thought of to be something so little but means so much in a film. It is used
to change the emotion and to tell people where to look. What s important are the lights you don t turn
on said by Allen Daviau. As explained in the documentary, the dark was not used as negative space
but as the most important part of the scene. This means they took advantage of the darkness, they used
it as a tool to add in emotion such as sadness or fear. Visions of Light uses John Alton s film T men

the 1930 s the lighting creates a glossy, glamorous, harder edge look. During the 1940 s the lighting

many scenes with a hand help camera allowing it to be brought in new settings for scenes which led to
the lighting to be used differently. In the clips from Touch of Evil the lighting changes from light to
dark drastically but never leads on an unclear story behind what is going on. Throughout the 1960 s

light flared into the camera lens, this created an effect considered a mistake by many but a new effect

colors were bright and bold. As the many years passed cinematographers were able to learn new ways

Troilus And Cressida Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet
In Chaucer s Troilus and Cressida and Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet both emphasize two love
stories between two people and highlights the tragic events that occured. In Repetition and Revision in
Shakespeare s Tragic Love Plays by McInnis states, the facts are the same but the interpretations are at
variance (34). Both of these stories focused on the issues, decisions, and overall outcomes in their
relationship that lead to their downfall. Troilus and Cressida compared to Romeo and Juliet are tragic
love stories that are problematized by circumstances beyond the control of the lovers. The love

Both characters kept coming up with possible paths or plans and not doing anything about it. It shows
that they both had an active role of their relationships withering away and resulting in a negative
outcome. They passively resign themselves to their own suffering. Even though they were both in love
when it came to trying to fight for the relationship or keep is alive, it was non existent. It was a
reptitive patter througout the play and sugesst that even though they were in love, they were never
strong or brave enough to fight for what they want. Which is ironic as Troilous was the son of King
Priam. As McInnis states, The events conform to the generic pattern, ....unprecedented betrayal scene

fated that there is not even any tragic irony to cling to for sustenance (46). Most of his outrageous
plans came from Troilus, all because of Cressida. One example is when Troilus believed that Cressida
has died, he was prepared to commit suicide. Troilus viewed himself as incompetent because he was
not capable to handle Cressida. However, she was not dead. Cressida was held in the greek camp, and
was wooed by her new lover, the Greek guard Diomedes. Cressida went as far as trick Troilous so she

(Barge Schlueter, 2004, p. 237) describes memorable messages as embedded with assumptions about
who can speak, about what and when, through that medium, and with what intent and these discourses
structure a set of obligations and opportunities for relationships and identities. Knapp states that
memorable messages have three different qualities that make a good memorable message. To start,
(Knapp et al., 1981) states that First, memorable messages often come from someone who is older and
of higher status, Most campaigns will use a spokesperson who is well known to the public; an
example of this is a celebrity putting their name towards a cause. These spokespeople are often the
campaign s biggest supporters both financially and motivational. (Miles A, et. al., 2001) describes that
research into adult interventions shows that those who take part in mass media health campaigns are
women from higher socioeconomic groups who are already engaging in better health practices.
Second, memorable messages are often brief oral injunctions that prescribe rules of conduct for
solving a personal problem, (Knapp et al., 1981). These would be more explicit directives, such as

The Sociological Theories Of Gender Development In Society
Socialization happens over our interactions; however, it is not as simple as it may seem. A gender
system occurs in every society. It is all about of all the ideas of female and male that are in a certain
place at a certain time and all the values as regards who decides what, who does what, and how we
feel ourselves and one another, mutually and independently. For this reason, there are too many gender
researchers that study how we construct our life (for example, how we think, feel, interpret, etc.).
Researches who came up with some theories about gender development, and we will be explaining
them in this essay. According to the book Gendered lives by Julia T. Wood, a theory is a way to
describe, explain, and predict relationships among phenomena. She also explains that each of us uses
theories to make sense of our live, to guide our attitudes and actions, and to predict other s behavior
(Julia T Wood, 37). With this intention, researches came up with four classifications of gender
development and behaviors theories: biological, interpersonal, cultural and critical. Biological theories
of gender maintain that biological characteristics such as chromosomes, hormonal activities and brain
specialization account for gender differences (Julia T. Wood, 38). In other words, gender is determined
by chromosomes and hormones. In fact, hormonal activity plays a big roll in gender development. For
example, there is a study made by Quadango et al. (1977) that found that female

Swot Analysis Of Jcpenney
Company Profile
JC Penney is an American department store chain with 1,095 locations throughout the United States.
In the latter half of the 20th century, shopping malls became very popular and most of the company s
stores were situated in the downtown areas, they followed the trend of developing more stores in the
shopping malls to attract customers and increase the financial profitability of the company.
Conversely, JC Penney had freestanding stores, and was able to get consumer traffic which helped the
company earn a profit and increase its market share.
From its inception in 1902, the company grew enormously, it added different businesses, made them
successful, and sold them to focus more on the retail aspect of the business. As an example, in 2001,
its direct marketing insurance unit was sold to Dutch Insurance for 1.3 Billion dollars.
In June of 2011, JC Penney announced that Ron Johnson was selected to be the next CEO of the
company. In his 17 months of leadership at JC Penney, the company performed very poorly. Its market
share declined, profits decreased, and the company laid off hundreds of employees and closed

Descriptive Essay On Olive Garden
Olive Garden is a family friendly restaurant that specializes in Italian American dishes, and is well
known for their soup, salad, and breadsticks. My family and I ate dinner at Olive Garden in Lafayette,
Indiana. The criteria used to rate our experience was the flavor, appearance, and healthfulness of the
food, the prompt and efficiency of the service, the price of the meal, and the lighting and decor of the
atmosphere. When it comes to the best service, food, price, and atmosphere Olive Garden excels and
continues to please their customers. The atmosphere of any restaurant is a very important in making a
first impression on their customers. When a customer decides to try a new restaurant, if there is a bad
atmosphere they may not want to return to the restaurant. The Italian theme of Olive Garden is
expressed throughout the outside decor of the building. The outside is decorated with vines which are
very reminiscent of Italian style buildings with a beautiful entryway. The entrance of the restaurant
was nicely decorated. Since it is around Christmas they had a beautiful Christmas tree up, as well as
garland and red bows. The lighting of the restaurant was neither to dark or to bright. There was plenty
of light to be able to see the menu, and the light created a relaxed atmosphere throughout the
restaurant.

Wasserstein, and Theodore Roethke all explore this new relationship through various mediums. Boys
and Girls (Munro) is a short story about a young girl strongly influenced by her father trying to find
her place in the world. Tender Offer (Wasserstein) is a play detailing the difficulties of communication
between a father and daughter in modern times. Lastly, My Papa s Waltz (Roethke) is a light hearted
poem illustrating a joyful night shared by a father and his child. Among all three works, the children
can be seen looking up to their fathers hoping in turn to be recognized by them. This common theme
can be traced among the different works of art thanks to plot, conflict and imagery.
In Alice Munro s Boys and Girls , the author employs both plot and conflict to bring forth the strong
yet one sided relationship. Throughout the short story, the main character, Margaret, avoids at all costs
the indoor chores her mother is tasked with, preferring to work on the farm with her father, work done
out of doors, and in my father s service, was ritualistically important. (Munro p.4) The conflict
between her and her mother only helped to push her closer to the other parent,

Piñatas Analysis
A. Attention Getter: I will walk in with two small piñatas. I will then proceed to ask the class if they
know what it is that I am holding. Once somebody answers, I will ask them if they know what they
represent and what they were/are used for. B. Revealed Object and Speakers Credibility: I will pass
around the piñatas to the class. I am Mexican and I can clearly remember that at every birthday party I
went to that there was a piñata for the children to hit. I always thought it was a bit peculiar but never
gave it another thought. It was not until I was with my family in Juarez during lent, we broke a piñata

Main Point 2 (The Way It Is Used In The Religious Aspect): The majority of people that know of and
use a piñata are of Latin culture and of Catholic religion. Traditional piñatas that have a religious
meaning are traditionally shaped like a seven or ten pointed star piñata. The seven points represent the
seven deadly sins while the ten points represents the ten commandments. The stick that is used to
break the piñata represents love. The people around you blindfold you so that you will not be enticed
by evil and so that the good people that surround you, can guide you to what is good. You must hit
hard to break the piñata. Breaking the seven or ten pointed piñata represents you defeating the evil.
Breaking the seven pointed piñata represents you defeating and over coming the seven deadly sins.

What Makes George W Bush A Good President
Bush s Presidency American citizens only vote every four years on who their new President will be.
The citizens usually pick between a Republican, and a Democratic candidate. Even though the
elections are held in November, the winner is not sworn into office until January. Some Presidents do
a better job of governing our country than others. President George W. Bush was elected 43rd

transformed into a wartime president on the airborne attacks the day of September 11, 2001.

Irony In The Most Dangerous Game
Irony and imagery are both important writing tools, used to guide the reader through the story while
keeping them engaged and thinking about the story complexly. When used together successfully, the
reader can walk away with something to think about, a new perspective on something they might have
thought different about before. When considering this, I would argue that The Most Dangerous Game,
is overall a better story than The Necklace .
In both stories, irony is used to to teach a lesson. In Richard Cowell s The Most Dangerous Game, he
tells a story of a hunter who is put into the place of the hunted. At the beginning of the story the
protagonist, Reinsford, boasts about the extravagant nature of hunting for sport. The best sport in the

By the end Reinsford feels sympathy for the hunted, being able to relate to the animals directly. The
irony used in this story is easily relatable to the reader, everyone at one point in time has had some
sort of drastic change in opinion. Whether it is about something as relative as the quality of a story, or
something considerably more important, like what makes something s life important, we have all had
that feeling. On the other hand, we have The Necklace, by Guy De Maupassant. Maupassant s use of
irony is less relatable and more comedic. He does this very well, oh my poor Mathilde, but mine was
only paste! (Maupassant, 1884, p. 208) A punch line of sorts, a funny ending to a unfunny story. It is
unexpected, and gets the reader to remember what has happened earlier in the story, but when looking
for an overarching theme, the humor could

Existentialism In Hamlet
Hamlet is widely regarded as one of William Shakespeare s most famous and best written tragedies.
Its importance to history, due in part to the fact that the introspection of the main character upon his
dilemmas was rarely addressed in other popular plays, is felt to this day. Similar to the likes of Romeo
and Juliet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, King Lear, and other Shakespearean tragedies, it has been
the subject of much critical analysis and literary review from many approaches. In this essay, the
historic, existentialist, traditional revenge tragedy, psychoanalytic, and archetypal approaches will be
used to understand the tragedy of Hamlet. The time period in which the play was written is known as
either the English Renaissance or the Early Modern Era. The existence of both names seems to prove
that Hamlet was penned in a period of transition for England, and the characters within the tragedy all
but confirm this conjecture. Hamlet, the titular character, represents the modern half of the transition,
acquiring an education from a city where the transition was most prominent, while Claudius represents
the medieval half, claiming and subsequently abusing the traditional position of king through means of
betrayal and secrecy (Bernath 220). The time period also suggests that the introspection of the main
character upon his dilemma s in such a way as to question his own existence initially had an incredible
resonance with audiences, as such commentary on the human

Women s Rights And Gender Equality Essay
At first glance, the words feminism, veganism, and locavorism may induce many different thoughts
and images. One might think of a celebrity, a stereotype, a character trait, or a group of specifically
similar people associated with each word. For some, these three words may not even bring anything or
anyone significant to mind. But no matter what thoughts arise through them, all three of these words
represent an ideology, and two of them commonly have to do with diet. Feminism, or the advocacy of
women s rights and gender equality, and veganism, or the lifestyle and diet of avoiding animal
products, are widely known and decently popular. However, locavorism, which is the lifestyle and diet
of purchasing and eating locally and sustainably grown food in order to help the environment and be
healthy, is more of a modern concept that was not always relevant or present in American society. In
fact, it only became popular in the past decade (Rudy, 2012, p. 27).
Nonetheless, the point still stands that feminism, veganism, and locavorism may not seem to have any
connections aside from the fact that they are indeed all ideologies and they share a suffix. However,
when observed on a deeper level, it is discovered that the widely held feminist views of gender and
socioeconomic equality coincide with the views of vegans that also focus on equality for beings
thought to be inferior. Even further, feminist views pertaining to the equitable distribution of food and
positive treatment of

Sometimes one prince quarreleth with one another; for fear the other should quarrel with him.
Sometimes a war is entered upon, because the enemy is too strong, and sometimes because he is too
weak. Sometimes our neighbors want the things which we have, or have the things which we want;
and we will both fight, til they take ours or give us theirs. It is a very justifiable cause of war to invade
a country after the people have been wasted by famine, destroyed by pestilence, or embroiled by
factions amongst themselves. It is justifiable to enter into a war against our nearest ally, when one of
his towns lie convenient to us, or a territory or land, that would render our dominions round and

Clockwork Orange Analysis
A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 crime film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on
Anthony Burgess s 1962 novel of the same name. It is a violent and disturbing film but somehow
fascinating and enjoyable at the same time. The film presents scenes of rape, physical violence and
murder because Kubrick wants to show the audience that these crimes are sickening but it s combined
with wonderful music and dance, which makes the film surreal and even funny.
Essentially it s a story focused on a British teenage, Alex DeLarge who is the leader of a 3 member
gang called droogs . Alex and his droogs spend their nights getting high on milk and then go out to
commit crimes. They carry out all sorts of crimes from rape to murder and robbery. The droogs want
to have a say in the crimes they commit but Alex asserts his authority by attacking them.
One night, things go wrong and the droogs betray Alex because they are sick of him bossing them
around. Alex gets caught by the police and is sentenced to 14 years in prison.
After two years in prison, Alex asks to be a part of an experiment; a therapy rehabilitating criminals
within two weeks but little does he know about the treatment. The treatment is essentially torture. He
is strapped to a chair, injected with drugs and forced to watch violent films with his eyes propped
open, which makes him feel sick and diseased. The government truly believed that this treatment
technique would cut down crimes.
At the end of two weeks, the treatment is over and the Minister wants to prove people that Alex is now
cured. He gathers people to put Alex through a test and Alex is unable to fight against the attacks and
feels sick when he sees a naked woman. For that reason, Alex is out as a free man and things get
worse outside.
The film is a protest against mind manipulations and political problems as well as social problems.
University of the Arts London Archive opened in 2007 and contains materials collected and owned by
the film director Stanley Kubrick. His family transferred it from his home in 2007 through a gift. It
contains much of Kubrick s working material that was accumulated during his lifetime.

Shinto s Role In Creatio Creation Mythology
Shinto is the indigenous religion of Japan. It can best be described as a structured system of animism.
The word Shinto comes from Chinese characters (shen and tao), meaning divine being and the way
respectively. Therefore the total meaning of Shinto is The Way of the Divine Beings/Spirits. (British
Broadcasting Corporation, 2011) It is unclear when the Shinto belief came about, but it most likely has
its earliest roots in animism. These animistic beliefs were expressed in the form of spirits called kami.
The kami are beings that are present in all aspects of nature and consist of major deities, ancestor
spirits, and minor spirits who have significance in a specific community. (Wilkinson, 2012, p. 263)
Several of these kami have had extreme importance in Japanese creation mythology and Shinto belief.

The Use Of Strange Places In slade House And Jordan...
Title: The Use of Strange Places in David Mitchell s Slade House and Jordan Peele s Get Out
Published in 2015, Slade House is a horror mystery written by David Mitchell. While their storylines
are quite different, the book has many similar fear inducing tactics used in Jordan Peele s Get Out. The
methods used in these two stories are what University of York professor, John Bowen would classify
as gothic motifs. These motifs break down into groups he has labeled as clashing time periods , power
and constraint , terror versus horror , a world of doubt , and strange places (Bowen). In particular,
professor Bowen describes strange places in gothic fiction as somewhere other, different, and,
mysterious (Bowen). He also claims that they are, often threatening or violent, sometimes sexually
enticing, and, often a prison (Bowen). The novel, Slade House and the film, Get Out are both
considered Gothic text because they contain the crucial aspects of the strange places motif.
The places in Slade House are strange because they lack consistency. The author, David Mitchell, first
introduces the motif immediately when Nathan Bishop and his mother Rita, arrive in Slade Alley.
Nathan himself describes the alley as somewhere a tramp might live in a cardboard box (Mitchell 6).
Slade House itself is a strange place because it is an expansive plot of land located in a small alley
way. It is not possible that such a place could fit where it is and each of the four protagonists

Home mechanical ventilation (HMV) has been used as long term ventilation for over 70 years to
manage chronic ventilatory failure. In the United States, the first introduce of mechanical ventilation
was by the use of the iron lung which used with polio victims (Tobin, 2006). Iron lung was the only
way available that time to ventilate Poliomyelitis patients and injured army soldiers (Goldberg,
2002).In 1950s, the use of intermittent positive pressure ventilation with mouth piece have began ,and
in 1952, the use of intermittent positive pressure ventilation (SIMV) via tracheostomy was introduced

Long Term Mechanical Ventilation
The concept of long term mechanical ventilation has two clinical aspects: Mandatory; which is use
during true life support and elective; which is use to manage patients with chronic ventilator failure
and sleep apnea. In mandatory base, invasive approach is the most common (Tobin, 2006). However,
home mechanical ventilation (HMV) can be delivered by either invasive or noninvasive route of
ventilation. In some centers, if the need for HMV use exceeds 16 20 hours per day, the change to
invasive mechanical ventilation will be considered. In general, the use of non invasive ventilation
(NIV) is more preferred than the use of invasive route of ventilation (M. Laub, Berg, Midgren, 2006).
Noninvasive technology is easy to be learned and to be used by the patients and the family and it
needs less professional presence on the care site, these problems could be solved now a day with the
implementation of telehealth care system which supports and monitors patients and families at home
(Goldberg, 2002).

Domestic Surveillance
I. Background
Just weeks after 9/11, the executive branch of the government began a massive expansion of domestic
surveillance with very little debate or transparency (Lichtblau, 2008). This apparatus was left to grown
in secret, almost completely unchecked by the other 2 branches of government for the last 15 years. In
that time, the National Security Administration (NSA) grew from tapping a few phones, to effectively
spying on an entire planet by infiltrating the infrastructure of worldwide communications networks.
The facts that have come to light about the extensive domestic surveillance and storage capabilities of
our Information and Data Systems (IDS) raise very important fundamental questions of the ability of
the governed and the constitution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome of Jewel vs the NSA will be a pivotal moment for IDS policy, marking the first time
SCOTUS will hear a case involving the NSA since the massive expansion of IDS surveillance systems
post 9/11. The ruling has the potential to drastically change the policy terrain because the plaintiffs are
suing the government and specific individuals complicit in the creation of the system. Because of the
constitutional implications, the stakes are inherently high. The case argues that the government
violated the 1st and 4th amendments in addition to: the 78 FISAAct, 3 violations of the Electronic
Communications Privacy Act and Stored Communications Act, and the 1949 Administrative
Procedures Act. The defense also claims a violation of the constitutional principle of separation of
powers (EFF, 2008a). A ruling in favor of Jewel could open the program to a wide range of public
investigation and opportunities for more civilian oversight within

Greek Mythology And Religion In Ancient Greek Culture
Religion was the central foundation in all that was Greek society and culture, as illustrated by the
temples and statues they built to honor them (Matthews, Noble, Platt, 2014). The Greek culture was a
polytheistic, cult like religion and those that recognized twelve Olympian deities and the chthonian.
Their religion was a communal, the polis and religion could not be separated, for in the eyes of the
Greeks the fate of each community depended on the civic deity (Matthews, et al, 2014, p. 42). Greek
mythology and religion, while not the same are closely related with one another, as the myths
disclosed much information about the gods and goddesses of the Greek religion (Matthews, et al,
2014).
Moreover, the Ancient Greeks believed

Minimum Wage Thesis Statement
The issue of poverty in America is a growing controversial topic that affects millions of Americans.
American citizens are poor and work as much as they can but continuously go in and out of poverty.
Very few impoverished Americans have little or no work on a continuous basis, but they tend to stay
poor from one generation to the next. Due to the current system of economy and the United States
increases in poverty, the American people are in need of a change. The New York Times Editorial
Board informs readers and argues that raising the minimum wage would restore the lives of millions
of Americans. In the Editorial Board s article The Case for a Higher Minimum Wage they discuss how
Republicans perceive the minimum wage in a negative light, the minimum wage is viewed as the
lowest legal hourly rate (Editorial Board 2). However, the Editorial Board explains the minimum wage
is an economic security blanket for millions of Americans. The editorial Board supports their claim
that the perception of minimum wage is skewed due to politics by implementing relevant expert
opinions and fairly referencing and rebutting counterarguments, which forms a reasonable, credible,
and believable argument.
Throughout The Case for a Higher Minimum Wage , the Editorial Board references numerous experts
to validate their claim that the minimum wage is unfairly set. Therefore, the Editorial Board references
the chart If the Minimum Wage Had Kept Pace With ... from the Economic Policy

The Importance Of The Green Light In The Great Gatsby
The first moment the green light is displayed within the novel is at Nick s first acknowledgment of
Gatsby. At this point in the novel, no interaction has occurred between Nick and Gatsby but only the
understanding that Gatsby throws parties where no one is selectively invited until Nick had been
invited. When Nick had first noticed Jay Gatsby he states
He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and far as I was from him I could
have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a
single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock. (Fitzgerald 24)
Nick has been able to notice how the green light had left Gatsby trembling and staring toward nothing
except the green light. The author had been able to use this moment to show how everyone s green
light often leaves them trembling due to the fear of what it takes to reach the goal and how we are
often left staring solely at our goal. Through the first few chapters of the novel Nick continues to have
interactions with Gatsby but no knowledge is shared until Jordan reveals peculiar facts about Gatsby
himself. They were so engrossed in each other that she didn t see me until I was five feet away
(Fitzgerald 81). Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay (Fitzgerald 85).
He had previously been in love with Daisy, but due to the disapproval of her relationship, Daisy felt
she would have been better off

Pros And Cons Of South Carolina
South Carolina, a state with plenty of history and marshland was actually not discovered until a while
after North America had been founded. In fact, Virginia was colonized almost sixty years before South
Carolina was. However, European countries had beforehand attempted to colonize this area. In 1521
Francisco Gordillo, of Spain, sailed to the Carolina coast, he did not try to settle the area, but he did
attempt to enslave the natives and send them to the Caribbeans. To have settled the area, would mean
to have built a lasting community that can live on it s own. Soon after, Lucas Vasquez de Ayllón
brought 600 settlers to try and colonize the area. However they ran into many problems such as:
weather, sickness, low food supplies, and hostility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Notice how in Document B it mentions; The land of South Carolina for a hundred or a hundred and
fifty miles back is flat and woody; intersected with many large rivers, . Although, from this portion of
the document, South Carolina seems to be a nice place to settle, but this also had quite a few
disadvantages. The flat land in the Carolinas, offered no protection to the settlers., Ssure, the land
would be great for farming, but there is no protection for them from the natives or any animals. Just
like in the saying: In war, it s better to have the higher ground , tells that the land wouldn t offer
offensive assist either. Also, from the same quote, it states that there are many large rivers , these
rivers could easily have brought forth animals that posed a great threat to the settlers. Speaking about
animals, in Document C it is mentioned that there are endless Numbers of Panthers, Tygers, Wolves,
and other Beasts of Prey, . This shows that the animal life is always active, and that there are many
animals hunting Beasts of Prey such as deer. This was an advantage, because it allowed food, and a
disadvantage, because the vicious animal hunted in the night, keeping the settlers always on their

Treasury Securities
The Treasury issues three types of marketable securities bills, notes, and bonds. These securities are
direct obligations of the United States Government. When originally issued, they are sold through an
auction process. They are commonly known as marketable securities because after their original issue
that may be bought or sold in the secondary (commercial) market at the prevailing market prices
through financial institutions, brokers, and dealers in investment securities.

Treasury notes and bonds bear a stated interest rate and the owner receives semi annual interest
payments.
Marketable Treasury securities are not redeemable before maturity unless, by the terms of their issue,
they are callable. If called, they stop earning interest on the date called. Investors are informed at the
time of purchase if their securities are subject to call.
Marketable Treasury securities are issued only in book entry form at original issue. Book entry
securities are represented by accounting entries maintained electronically on the records of the
Treasury, a Federal Reserve Bank or Branch, or financial institution. Definitive securities in the form
of engraved certificates are no longer offered at original issue.
Features of Book entry Accounts
Book entry securities may be held on the records of a Federal Reserve Bank or Branch, or by the
Department of the Treasury.
The system operated by the Federal Reserve Banks who serve as fiscal agents of the Treasury, is the
Treasury/Reserver Automated Debt Entry System (TRADES), commonly referred to as the
commercial book entry system. Investors whose securities are maintained in this system generally
have purchased them through either a financial institution, or a government securities dealer. These
securities are reflected in the records of a Federal Reserve Bank or Branch as book entry issues held
for the account of a depository institution. The depository institution

A Culture That Violate Human Ethics For The Sake Of Profit
Jed, she said, alcohol and drugs are a symptom of a culture that violate human ethics for the sake of
profit. What has that to do with Vietnam, I asked? When you kill humans for profit, you are asking the
soldier to kill at the expense of his own soul. What has my soul to do with it, I asked? Let s not dodge
the point, she said, If you continue on the way you re going, you will become an alcoholic or an
addict. What chance do their souls have to be pain free. I don t think that how the world works. You re
already questioning whether you re becoming an alcoholic or an addict. You even think you might be
crazy. How do you know all this, I asked? I have dreams. You must know that to beat your condition
you must mature, and that depends upon your spiritual growth. If you don t beat it, you will live a
miserable life like your father and uncle. As I was thinking about her words, I heard the lead singer of
Savoy Brown sing, I ride with the moon, but I just can t live without my needle and spoon. My aunt s
words combined with the lyrics to the song by Savoy Brown blew my mind. I grabbed my pipe and
my weed and went over to the window. Opening it, I smoked a bowl. I don t know why I became
angry at this point, but I wanted to hit someone. The first person I thought about hitting was my aunt.
How dare she question me like she did?
I would have slugged her if she had been in my room. I began pacing the floor. My anger had no

Reflection Of APA Style Writing
First of all I would like to thank you for the time and hard work you put in this semester to teach my
classmates and me. This semester I learned a lot in your class such as APA style writing, how to write
different format essays and Bloom s Taxonomy. In your course I not only learned how to become a
better learner but also a better person. I still remember how nervous I was feeling the first day of class.
This was my first semester attending college, which made me feel worse. Since the first day I came
into your class I was expecting this course to help me improve my writing skills in English one
specific assignment that I consider to be helpful in my writing skills was the thesis tweeter assignment
. I consider spelling to be my greatest weakness in writing because my first language is Spanish and I
have a lot of trouble learning English. In this letter I will let you know what I learned and how I have
met the program s standards of focus, development and clarity because I have practice APA style,
writing assays and using Bloom s Taxonomy
When I was in my senior year of high school, I learned a little about writing in APA style. In your
course I learned that I was making some mistakes when I thought I was using APA style the correct
way. Something that I considered to be very helpful for me was getting the help from the librarian on
how to use APA style using different kind of sources such as books, newspapers and videos. The
yellow sheet he gave us in his presentation was allot of help throughout the semester because I would
always use it when It was time to do writing assignments. Learning how to properly use Apa style was
very helpful for me because now I apply those skills on my assignments and I do a better job than
before. Now I feel way more comfortable and confident while writing. Before learning the proper way
of using APA style I was always unsure If I was giving credit to the sources I was using. I m planning
on applying this writing skill in and out of class to have a clear and smooth writing when It gets to
give credit to sources.
Throughout the semester we practice literature by writing several essays such as diagnostic, narrative,
current event and common exit essay. In all these four essays

The Conflicts Between Seeing Nature As A Medium Of Art
Imagine hiking and standing upon a mountain top and just basking in the beauty of the scenery
around. Some people consider nature as the purest form of natural expression. Some artists consider
nature as a medium of art. But what is a medium of art? Art is expressed to be man made, a form of
human expression, a tale of beauty or tragedy. The world is a beautiful place filled with unique
creatures, beautiful scenery and an overwhelming sense of power and importance. But a medium is
considered as materials used to help express the viewpoint of the artist. In this evaluation argument
one will see the conflicts between seeing nature as a contributor to art. where if it can be used as a
material that inspires the artist, can be used to express emotion, and help support the point of view of
the art work. One would think that nature would have nothing to do with art. But it seems that art can
be found centered upon this idea. Nature is used in many different forms either to build a giant
building or to just exists and to be admired. In many cases trees and other natural elements are used as
art supplies. One can view the use of nature being used as a medium of art. Using the materials as a
source of expressing the viewpoint of the artists.
Some disapprove of this viewpoint, some people suggest that art is to conceptual to be related or
influenced by nature. Some people also state that nature is based of evolution and science not on the
concepts of feelings

  • 2. Personal Identity In The Overcoat And The Nose In Gogol s The Overcoat , an every man apparently becomes something more by replacing his overcoat. In Gogol s The Nose , a man is temporarily reduced to nothing upon literally losing his nose. In both texts, the interplay of dreams and reality serve to highlight Gogol s issues with the fabric of Russian society and personal identity by creating unconventional narration, a dynamic perspective, and characterization. In the beginning stages of both the The Overcoat and The Nose , the reader is introduced to the respective protagonists through an unconventional first person narration. In both stories, the narrator acknowledges the fourth wall and addresses the audience as if he were an external storyteller verbalizing the respective stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, the transition in perspective makes the state of reality unclear, and serves to highlight the supreme importance rank holds in Gogol s society. If The Nose was only told from Kovalyov s point of view, for example, it may have been possible he hallucinated or dreamed the entire thing. By initially making the perspective that of the barber, Gogol makes his story much more surreal; either Kovalyov s nose is literally walking about St. Petersburg, or St. Petersberg is experiencing some kind of surreal, shared phantasm. This surrealism allows Gogol to highlight the absurdity of the situation: At first, the barber is afraid that he has found Kovalyov s nose, but after the nose is masquerading about the streets with certain clothes and minor embellishments, it is treated with such reverence that even Kovalyov treats his own nose as an official of higher rank. It is only when Kovalyov files a report with the police that his nose is finally returned to him, and even then the police officer had trouble recognizing the nose as not being a high ranking official. Through the surrealism brought about by dynamic perspective, Gogol highlights the absurdity of how much his society focuses on rank. While the interplay of dream and reality generate the dynamic, surrealist perspective in The Nose and The Overcoat , the nature of dreams and reality also directly affects ... • 3. John Robby Personality High school is its own society. There is a social standard that everyone must follow. It is not like when people are children. When someone is a child, they are friends with everyone. The moment that they walk up to someone they are instant friends. They could talk for hours, and just start playing games with each other. High school is not like that. Everyone is in groups, and what group a student is in will influence their personality. Once someone is in a group, it is almost impossible to change. In Our Time , John Wideman shows how many things influence Robby s personality, which in the end, caused him to commit crimes. Society and his friend group are just two of those things. Robby s life may have turned out much differently if he would have grown up in a different neighborhood that had more people of the same race as himself. His life would ve also been very different if he started hanging around a different type of people. You know, partying and stuff in Garfield because that s where the niggers were (Wideman 643). Robby hung out with people who liked to party, which caused him to do the same.Robby s life was influenced by his surroundings, and so did mine when I first entered high school. High school also causes people to grow up faster. There is a mountain of responsibility that affects people s lives . In Our Secret , Susan Griffin tells the reader about the pressure that Heinrich Himmler s father put on Heinrich. The weight of that hand could not be comforting. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Benefits Of Carbohydrate Restriction For Diabetes And The... Since two thirds of American adults are currently overweight or obese, doctors find it hard to find the best diet for their patients. The list of choices and categories is lengthy, with vocal advocates for the Atkins diet, the Zone diet, South Beach diet, Jenny Craig, Vegan/vegetarian diet, and the cousin to the Atkins diet the Paleo diet, etc. If any of these diets was sufficiently effective and easily adopted by Americans we wouldn t be faced with such an obesity epidemic. The truth is there is no simple answer because everybody is different; doctors should recommend whatever diet the patient can best adhere to (Louis Kuristzky, MD, 2014). Because being overweight or obese can lead to diabetes and the inability of current recommendations to control this epidemic has failed. They now see the benefits of carbohydrate restriction to treat diabetes and the studies are well documented. A low carbohydrate diet is the first approach to reduce high blood glucose, and lead to the reduction or elimination of medication without side effects (Richard D. Feinman, 2015). There are concerns about the efficacy and safety of a low carbohydrate diet that has always surrounded this method of weight loss, but it s more conjecture then data driven (Feinman, 2015). Critics believe that diets such as Atkins has potential negative effects on bone health, renal functions and cardiovascular health. In the matter of bone health the concern was that there will be an increased level of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trends Of Optical Communication Industry Trends Large, monolithic satellites are slowly being overtaken by Distributed Space Systems (DSS) comprised of a network or networks of multiple inexpensive, small, smart satellites. Thus, necessitating the need for intersatellite communications. This trend is primarily prompted by cost and the commercialization of space. An ancillary by product of this trend is the push towards the use of Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) Plus (aka.: upscreened) parts. • 6. The Importance Of The Washington Monument The Washington Monument is one of the most important monuments because it s a monument for our first president, George Washington! I remember learning about George Washington in history class and something that stuck with me was that he said not to split into two political parties. Unfortunately, we did not listen and here we are voting every 4 or 8 years for a new president! I remember visiting the Washington Monument with my family when I was younger and I was amazing to see that the monument was in 2 different colors! This is because the National Washington Monument Society did not have enough money to complete the monument (National Park Service, 5.) • 7. The Man From A Peddler s Family Disagreements Turn Into Agreements People disagree often when it comes to politics. We are all entitled to our own opinions. Some of us choose to voice our opinions, while others keep their opinions to themselves. The relationship between Zhu Yanda (Zhu) and Gao in The Man from a Peddler s family, shows a very typical disagreement on politics. Not only is this story about politics, there are also hidden themes throughout that are not easily discernable by some. One of those hidden themes is friendship and effects the relationship has on the process of changing one party s original opinion. Both Gao and Zhu see the world differently, yet despite their differences they still remain friends. One follows all the rules of the government, and the other walks to the beat of his own drum when it comes to politics. It is the difference of opinions we have that keeps the world running smoothly. Our difference of opinions is what makes us grow, and sometimes we change our opinions for the better. When we disagree and argue we make one another better people making one another see outside their box. These two characters grow and change by the end of the story by showing each other a different view on government. They both end up understanding the other person s point of view. This story displays political themes and themes about friendship, disagreements, and changing of friend s opinions. The Man from a Peddler s Family, is about capitalism versus socialism/Communism. • 8. The Impact Of The Treaty Of Versailles The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty signed between Germany and the Allies. It was to stop the war to end all wars (Woodrow Wilson). Every country or colony entered in this war had suffered immense loss and unbelievable damage to the landscape where the battle had taken place. The Treaty was meant to finally bring peace to the world, but instead, it only let more problems arise. Worse ones that certainly had not been intended for. The Treaty of Versailles only brought peace for so long, and after twenty one years, another devastating war had been released on the world. However, the repercussions are solely because of the Treaty of Versailles, as it put all of the costs of the war on Germany, including taking responsibility for starting it in the first place. As to speak, Germany took the very rough brunt of the war. Including the costs that Britain didn t want to deal with, and instead passed the blame. Germany was forced to take responsibility for starting the war and all the losses and casualties to the Allied Forces. There were also countless other financial weights that they had to deal with after the treaty was signed. Of course, and with good reason as well, the German people were outraged by this. The treaty had been written only by the Allies, and Germany was forced to play under their will if the country didn t want to be invaded or annexed by the other side. It was a threat they knew would be carried out. Even to this, Germany suffered great injustice, whether ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. My Passion For Beauty Since a young age, my life has been centered on artistic expression and a fascination for beauty. At the age of 9, I told my scientist mother and mathematician father that I wanted to be a ballerina. My parents were always big supporters of the arts, and encouraged me to try many creative outlets. They had no notion that my weekly ballet and tap classes would turn into a career to prosper. From that moment on, my life revolved around ballet. I loved every minute of the self expression and precession that ballet gave me that all of the sacrifices felt worthwhile. From 12 years old and on, I spent my days training for 8 to 10 hours, filling any free time with schoolwork through my online school, The Keystone School. I was constantly surrounded by musicians, costume designers, set designers, and other performing artists that were also forgoing a normal life to honor their craft. I spent almost every summer of my high school years in New York City attending classed during the day at Lincoln Center with The School of American Ballet and The Bolshoi Ballet Summer Intensive, while spending my evenings in awe of the professional dancers performing at The Met. For four years, I competed as a finalist at Youth America Grand Prix, having opportunity to compete with the other top ballet dancers from all over the world. Cinematography was defined throughout the film as the making of a motion picture. I found out that I was unconsciously responding to light. said by Ernest Dickerson an American film director and cinematographer. Light is thought of to be something so little but means so much in a film. It is used to change the emotion and to tell people where to look. What s important are the lights you don t turn on said by Allen Daviau. As explained in the documentary, the dark was not used as negative space but as the most important part of the scene. This means they took advantage of the darkness, they used it as a tool to add in emotion such as sadness or fear. Visions of Light uses John Alton s film T men (1947) to exemplify how ... Troilus viewed himself as incompetent because he was not capable to handle Cressida. However, she was not dead. The Center For Disease Control And Prevention Literature Review (The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015) points to many sectors of society including families, communities, schools, medical care providers, and the media as sources of influence on dietary and physical activity behaviors. In today s society, we are seeing a trend of major influence coming from many different types of media. An example of this is social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. (Barge Schlueter, 2004, p. 237) describes memorable messages as embedded with assumptions about who can speak, about what and when, through that medium, and with what intent and these discourses structure a set of obligations and opportunities for relationships and identities. Knapp states that memorable messages have three different qualities that make a good memorable message. To start, (Knapp et al., 1981) states that First, memorable messages often come from someone who is older and of higher status, Most campaigns will use a spokesperson who is well known to the public; an example of this is a celebrity putting their name towards a cause. These spokespeople are often the campaign s biggest supporters both financially and motivational. (Miles A, et. al., 2001) describes that research into adult interventions shows that those who take part in mass media health campaigns are women from higher socioeconomic groups who are already engaging in better health practices. Second, memorable messages are often brief oral injunctions that prescribe rules of conduct for solving a personal problem, (Knapp et al., 1981). These would be more explicit directives, such as Exercise more and You should eat smaller portions, such as. • 15. The Sociological Theories Of Gender Development In Society Socialization happens over our interactions; however, it is not as simple as it may seem. A gender system occurs in every society. It is all about of all the ideas of female and male that are in a certain place at a certain time and all the values as regards who decides what, who does what, and how we feel ourselves and one another, mutually and independently. For this reason, there are too many gender researchers that study how we construct our life (for example, how we think, feel, interpret, etc.). Researches who came up with some theories about gender development, and we will be explaining them in this essay. According to the book Gendered lives by Julia T. Wood, a theory is a way to describe, explain, and predict relationships among phenomena. She also explains that each of us uses theories to make sense of our live, to guide our attitudes and actions, and to predict other s behavior (Julia T Wood, 37). With this intention, researches came up with four classifications of gender development and behaviors theories: biological, interpersonal, cultural and critical. Biological theories of gender maintain that biological characteristics such as chromosomes, hormonal activities and brain specialization account for gender differences (Julia T. Wood, 38). In other words, gender is determined by chromosomes and hormones. In fact, hormonal activity plays a big roll in gender development. For example, there is a study made by Quadango et al. (1977) that found that female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since language first came into being, it has been one of the most important tools employed by humans to communicate with each other. Imagine what life would be like if we did not have language as an instrument to interact with each other. Further, language is often considered to be an integral part of culture; and most humans are well aware of the importance of language in society; however, can language be consumed to deliver the transparency of thoughts and implication of intentions? Furthermore, every individual has had their moments where they had been deceptive or ambiguous. Lying is a miserable action that we as human beings tend to make. The truth is the one that leads us in the right road; however, we have to admit that nowadays we tell white lies to each other almost every day. No matter if we want to leave the impression of being more sensitive about someone s feelings, or to show more respect to one another. Further, highlighting positive elements and concealing negative ones is another form of doublespeak, as can be seen in the use of jargon. As William Lutz explains: Jargon as doublespeak often makes the simple appear complex, the ordinary profound, and the obvious insightful. In this sense it is not used to express but to impress (3). That is, instead of delivering a simple answer, instead, a rather complex or probably not comprehended one is offered. For example, car dealers use a tricky language of doublespeak such as, base price, add on interest, blue book, dealer incentives, rule of 78s, and so forth. Indeed, the car dealer understands what he/she meant, but not necessarily the customer who may have a limited expense with vehicles. To continue with, jargon also involves the language of ... My family and I ate dinner at Olive Garden in Lafayette, Indiana. The criteria used to rate our experience was the flavor, appearance, and healthfulness of the food, the prompt and efficiency of the service, the price of the meal, and the lighting and decor of the atmosphere. When it comes to the best service, food, price, and atmosphere Olive Garden excels and continues to please their customers. • 21. Father And Father In Alice Munro s Boys And Girls Father For a child, a father means the world to them. And with changing social norms, fathers are much closer to their children than ever before. The old stereotype of a cold emotionless labourer has been replaced by the soft caring figure who takes an interest in his kids lives. Alice Munro, Wendy Wasserstein, and Theodore Roethke all explore this new relationship through various mediums. Boys and Girls (Munro) is a short story about a young girl strongly influenced by her father trying to find her place in the world. Tender Offer (Wasserstein) is a play detailing the difficulties of communication between a father and daughter in modern times. Lastly, My Papa s Waltz (Roethke) is a light hearted poem illustrating a joyful night shared by a father and his child. Among all three works, the children can be seen looking up to their fathers hoping in turn to be recognized by them. This common theme can be traced among the different works of art thanks to plot, conflict and imagery. In Alice Munro s Boys and Girls , the author employs both plot and conflict to bring forth the strong yet one sided relationship. Throughout the short story, the main character, Margaret, avoids at all costs the indoor chores her mother is tasked with, preferring to work on the farm with her father, work done out of doors, and in my father s service, was ritualistically important. When used together successfully, the reader can walk away with something to think about, a new perspective on something they might have thought different about before. When considering this, I would argue that The Most Dangerous Game, is overall a better story than The Necklace . In both stories, irony is used to to teach a lesson. In Richard Cowell s The Most Dangerous Game, he tells a story of a hunter who is put into the place of the hunted. Its importance to history, due in part to the fact that the introspection of the main character upon his dilemmas was rarely addressed in other popular plays, is felt to this day. Similar to the likes of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, King Lear, and other Shakespearean tragedies, it has been the subject of much critical analysis and literary review from many approaches. In this essay, the historic, existentialist, traditional revenge tragedy, psychoanalytic, and archetypal approaches will be used to understand the tragedy of Hamlet. The time period in which the play was written is known as either the English Renaissance or the Early Modern Era. The existence of both names seems to prove that Hamlet was penned in a period of transition for England, and the characters within the tragedy all but confirm this conjecture. Hamlet, the titular character, represents the modern half of the transition, acquiring an education from a city where the transition was most prominent, while Claudius represents the medieval half, claiming and subsequently abusing the traditional position of king through means of betrayal and secrecy (Bernath 220). The time period also suggests that the introspection of the main character upon his dilemma s in such a way as to question his own existence initially had an incredible resonance with audiences, as such commentary on the human ... One might think of a celebrity, a stereotype, a character trait, or a group of specifically similar people associated with each word. For some, these three words may not even bring anything or anyone significant to mind. But no matter what thoughts arise through them, all three of these words represent an ideology, and two of them commonly have to do with diet. Feminism, or the advocacy of women s rights and gender equality, and veganism, or the lifestyle and diet of avoiding animal products, are widely known and decently popular. However, locavorism, which is the lifestyle and diet of purchasing and eating locally and sustainably grown food in order to help the environment and be healthy, is more of a modern concept that was not always relevant or present in American society. In fact, it only became popular in the past decade (Rudy, 2012, p. 27). Nonetheless, the point still stands that feminism, veganism, and locavorism may not seem to have any connections aside from the fact that they are indeed all ideologies and they share a suffix. However, when observed on a deeper level, it is discovered that the widely held feminist views of gender and socioeconomic equality coincide with the views of vegans that also focus on equality for beings thought to be inferior. It is a violent and disturbing film but somehow fascinating and enjoyable at the same time. The film presents scenes of rape, physical violence and murder because Kubrick wants to show the audience that these crimes are sickening but it s combined with wonderful music and dance, which makes the film surreal and even funny. Essentially it s a story focused on a British teenage, Alex DeLarge who is the leader of a 3 member gang called droogs . Alex and his droogs spend their nights getting high on milk and then go out to commit crimes. They carry out all sorts of crimes from rape to murder and robbery. The droogs want to have a say in the crimes they commit but Alex asserts his authority by attacking them. One night, things go wrong and the droogs betray Alex because they are sick of him bossing them around. Alex gets caught by the police and is sentenced to 14 years in prison. After two years in prison, Alex asks to be a part of an experiment; a therapy rehabilitating criminals within two weeks but little does he know about the treatment. The treatment is essentially torture. He is strapped to a chair, injected with drugs and forced to watch violent films with his eyes propped open, which makes him feel sick and diseased. The government truly believed that this treatment technique would cut down crimes. At the end of two weeks, the treatment is over and the Minister wants to prove people that Alex is now cured. He gathers people to put Alex through a test and Alex is unable to fight against the attacks and feels sick when he sees a naked woman. For that reason, Alex is out as a free man and things get worse outside. The film is a protest against mind manipulations and political problems as well as social problems. The word Shinto comes from Chinese characters (shen and tao), meaning divine being and the way respectively. Therefore the total meaning of Shinto is The Way of the Divine Beings/Spirits. (British Broadcasting Corporation, 2011) It is unclear when the Shinto belief came about, but it most likely has its earliest roots in animism. These animistic beliefs were expressed in the form of spirits called kami. The kami are beings that are present in all aspects of nature and consist of major deities, ancestor spirits, and minor spirits who have significance in a specific community. • 39. The Use Of Strange Places In slade House And Jordan... Title: The Use of Strange Places in David Mitchell s Slade House and Jordan Peele s Get Out Published in 2015, Slade House is a horror mystery written by David Mitchell. While their storylines are quite different, the book has many similar fear inducing tactics used in Jordan Peele s Get Out. The methods used in these two stories are what University of York professor, John Bowen would classify as gothic motifs. These motifs break down into groups he has labeled as clashing time periods , power and constraint , terror versus horror , a world of doubt , and strange places (Bowen). In particular, professor Bowen describes strange places in gothic fiction as somewhere other, different, and, mysterious (Bowen). He also claims that they are, often threatening or violent, sometimes sexually enticing, and, often a prison (Bowen). The novel, Slade House and the film, Get Out are both considered Gothic text because they contain the crucial aspects of the strange places motif. The places in Slade House are strange because they lack consistency. The author, David Mitchell, first introduces the motif immediately when Nathan Bishop and his mother Rita, arrive in Slade Alley. Nathan himself describes the alley as somewhere a tramp might live in a cardboard box (Mitchell 6). Slade House itself is a strange place because it is an expansive plot of land located in a small alley way. It is not possible that such a place could fit where it is and each of the four protagonists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the United States, the first introduce of mechanical ventilation was by the use of the iron lung which used with polio victims (Tobin, 2006). Iron lung was the only way available that time to ventilate Poliomyelitis patients and injured army soldiers (Goldberg, 2002).In 1950s, the use of intermittent positive pressure ventilation with mouth piece have began ,and in 1952, the use of intermittent positive pressure ventilation (SIMV) via tracheostomy was introduced (Tobin, 2006). As a result, the interest had increased for the use of all types of mechanical ventilation supports (Tobin, 2006). Long Term Mechanical Ventilation The concept of long term mechanical ventilation has two clinical aspects: Mandatory; which is use during true life support and elective; which is use to manage patients with chronic ventilator failure and sleep apnea. In mandatory base, invasive approach is the most common (Tobin, 2006). However, home mechanical ventilation (HMV) can be delivered by either invasive or noninvasive route of ventilation. In some centers, if the need for HMV use exceeds 16 20 hours per day, the change to invasive mechanical ventilation will be considered. In general, the use of non invasive ventilation (NIV) is more preferred than the use of invasive route of ventilation (M. Laub, Berg, Midgren, 2006). Noninvasive technology is easy to be learned and to be used by the patients and the family and it needs less professional presence on the care site, these problems could be solved now a day with the implementation of telehealth care system which supports and monitors patients and families at home (Goldberg, 2002). Background Just weeks after 9/11, the executive branch of the government began a massive expansion of domestic surveillance with very little debate or transparency (Lichtblau, 2008). This apparatus was left to grown in secret, almost completely unchecked by the other 2 branches of government for the last 15 years. In that time, the National Security Administration (NSA) grew from tapping a few phones, to effectively spying on an entire planet by infiltrating the infrastructure of worldwide communications networks. The outcome of Jewel vs the NSA will be a pivotal moment for IDS policy, marking the first time SCOTUS will hear a case involving the NSA since the massive expansion of IDS surveillance systems post 9/11. The ruling has the potential to drastically change the policy terrain because the plaintiffs are suing the government and specific individuals complicit in the creation of the system. Because of the constitutional implications, the stakes are inherently high. The case argues that the government violated the 1st and 4th amendments in addition to: the 78 FISAAct, 3 violations of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and Stored Communications Act, and the 1949 Administrative Procedures Act. The defense also claims a violation of the constitutional principle of separation of powers (EFF, 2008a). At this point in the novel, no interaction has occurred between Nick and Gatsby but only the understanding that Gatsby throws parties where no one is selectively invited until Nick had been invited. When Nick had first noticed Jay Gatsby he states He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and far as I was from him I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock. (Fitzgerald 24) Nick has been able to notice how the green light had left Gatsby trembling and staring toward nothing except the green light. The author had been able to use this moment to show how everyone s green light often leaves them trembling due to the fear of what it takes to reach the goal and how we are often left staring solely at our goal. Through the first few chapters of the novel Nick continues to have interactions with Gatsby but no knowledge is shared until Jordan reveals peculiar facts about Gatsby himself. They were so engrossed in each other that she didn t see me until I was five feet away (Fitzgerald 81). Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay (Fitzgerald 85). My aunt s words combined with the lyrics to the song by Savoy Brown blew my mind. I grabbed my pipe and my weed and went over to the window. Opening it, I smoked a bowl. This semester I learned a lot in your class such as APA style writing, how to write different format essays and Bloom s Taxonomy. In your course I not only learned how to become a better learner but also a better person. I still remember how nervous I was feeling the first day of class. This was my first semester attending college, which made me feel worse. Since the first day I came into your class I was expecting this course to help me improve my writing skills in English one specific assignment that I consider to be helpful in my writing skills was the thesis tweeter assignment . I consider spelling to be my greatest weakness in writing because my first language is Spanish and I have a lot of trouble learning English. In this letter I will let you know what I learned and how I have met the program s standards of focus, development and clarity because I have practice APA style, writing assays and using Bloom s Taxonomy When I was in my senior year of high school, I learned a little about writing in APA style. In your course I learned that I was making some mistakes when I thought I was using APA style the correct way. Something that I considered to be very helpful for me was getting the help from the librarian on how to use APA style using different kind of sources such as books, newspapers and videos. The yellow sheet he gave us in his presentation was allot of help throughout the semester because I would always use it when It was time to do writing assignments. Learning how to properly use Apa style was very helpful for me because now I apply those skills on my assignments and I do a better job than before. Now I feel way more comfortable and confident while writing. Before learning the proper way of using APA style I was always unsure If I was giving credit to the sources I was using. I m planning on applying this writing skill in and out of class to have a clear and smooth writing when It gets to give credit to sources. Some people consider nature as the purest form of natural expression. Some artists consider nature as a medium of art. But what is a medium of art? Art is expressed to be man made, a form of human expression, a tale of beauty or tragedy. The world is a beautiful place filled with unique creatures, beautiful scenery and an overwhelming sense of power and importance. But a medium is considered as materials used to help express the viewpoint of the artist. In this evaluation argument one will see the conflicts between seeing nature as a contributor to art. where if it can be used as a material that inspires the artist, can be used to express emotion, and help support the point of view of the art work. One would think that nature would have nothing to do with art. But it seems that art can be found centered upon this idea. Nature is used in many different forms either to build a giant building or to just exists and to be admired. In many cases trees and other natural elements are used as art supplies. One can view the use of nature being used as a medium of art. Using the materials as a source of expressing the viewpoint of the artists.
