Exploring Physical Science Chapter 1, Section 1
Science A process of gathering knowledge about the natural world.
What is Physical Science? The study of matter and energy. Matter is the “stuff” that everything is made of. Shoes, pencil, air Energy is the ability to do work. NRG is partly responsible for rainbows, but is not the rainbow itself. All moving objects and non-moving objects have energy. Food has NRG that is xferred to you.
Physical Science Branches
Chemistry Looks at the structure and properties of matter. Different substances behave differently under the same conditions. Chemistry is also the study of how substances change. Chemical reaction takes place when one substance reacts w/ another substance to make a new substance.
Physics Studying different forms of NRG is what Physics is all about. Motion, force, gravity, electricity, light, and heat are parts of physics. Riding a bike and using your brakes Force causes motion
Which of the following statements is true? NRG is the ability to do work. Air is made of matter. All matter has NRG. All of the above.
What is the difference between Chemistry & Physics?
Answer: Chemistry is mainly the study of the properties and interactions of matter. Physics is mainly the study of forces and motion.
