Natural Science 4th level
UNIT 5 MATTER, MATERIALS AND ENERGY
WHAT IS MATTER?
All the objects we can see are made of matter. Matter forms everything
around you.
WHAT ARE MATTERIALS?
Materials are the matter that objects are made of. Materials can be
natural or man-made.
WHAT IS ENERGY?
Energy is what produces changes in matter and allows us to do work.
RENEWABLE AND NON-RENEWABLE
• Renewable energy-sources are natural sources that can be used
again and again. The Sun, the wind and the water are renewable
energy sources.
• Non-Renewable energy-sources are natural sources that cannot
be replaced after we use them. Coal, Oil, natural gas and are non-
renewable energy sources.
WHAT IS LIGHT?
Light is a form of energy that we perceive with our sense of sight. It
allows us to see the objects around us.
WHAT IS HEAT?
Heat is a form of energy that is transferred from a warm object to
another object that is cooler.
WHAT IS TEMPERATURE?
Temperature indicates how hot or cold an object is. It is measured with
a thermometer.
