WHAT IS MATTER?
Everything is made of matter. Matter has mass and volume and we use
our senses to detect it. Each type of matter is called a substance.
• MASS is the quantity that forms an object.
• VOLUME is the quantity that an object occupies.
Matter can be a solid, a liquid or a gas.
• Solids have a definite volume and a definite shape.
• Liquids have a definite volume but can change shape.
• Gases can change volume and shape.
There are physical changes and chemical changes of matter.
WHAT IS ENERGY?
We use energy to transform matter. We can divide the sources of
energy into two main groups: non-renewable energy and renewable
energy sources.
There are different types of energy: electrical energy, thermal energy,
mechanical energy, chemical energy, light energy, nuclear energy..
HEAT
Heat is the energy that passes from a hot object to a colder one. We
measure temperature with a device called a thermometer.
