Virtualization In Software Testing

Testing complex SOA architectures presents several challenges. Traditional UI testing is not sufficient as most of the application functionality resides in the underlying SOA infrastructure. Healthcare industry is rapidly embracing EHRs, enabling providers to improve patient engagement and deliver better patient outcomes. Economic realities dictate that "new" distributed systems are almost never entirely new creations. Existing capabilities which cannot be readily duplicated at minimal cost are often necessary and even critical components of otherwise new systems. How we address achieving interoperability with these legacy systems – whose data and interfaces are often less than completely defined – can be a critical cost and schedule risk item.
Open standards such as the DoD's UAS Control Segment (UCS) Architecure and the Open Group's Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) provide architecture and data design standards which support new development and provide a means of rigorously capturing the data semantics of information in existing interfaces. At the protocol and implementation level, the OMG's Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard provides proven, cost effective design patterns which support the bridging and/or the migration of existing systems with new, open architectures.

Currently there is increasing interest in scientific research on network traffic management for advanced scenarios (e.g. Internet of Everything (IoE), Everything as a Service (XaaS), Smart Cities, and the like) and their respective demands for novel network services. Such networked applications bring massive amounts of traffic data to be processed in real-time, thus driving researchers to develop affordable yet efficient network management systems. In fact, new paradigms, services, and architectures, such as Network Virtualization (NV), Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Distributed Cloud Computing, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Service Function Chaining (SFC), etc, will require robust and dynamic capabilities to support a myriad of possibilities for applications from the IoE and XaaS concepts. For example, there is a need for an in-depth understanding of the composition and the dynamics of Internet traffic to perform accurate capacity planning, deploy efficient management policies and pricing strategies, assess protocol performance, and detect abnormalities in such scenarios. Research on measurement, modeling, and analysis of network traffic and infrastructure always face new challenges as new applications are continuously deployed.
In this talk, I will discuss the rise of IoE and XaaS as well as the demand for advanced networking services, paradigms, and architectures (e.g., SDN, NFV). I will give an overview of some challenges, opportunities, and directions in these research topics.
NFV - Telco Transformation Unfolded
Telco networks are undergoing a transformation driven by factors like increased capacity demands, network and data center convergence, and the need for programmable networks. This is leading telcos to adopt network functions virtualization (NFV), which uses virtualization techniques to virtualize entire classes of network functions into software that can run on commercial off-the-shelf servers rather than proprietary hardware. NFV aims to provide benefits like elastic scaling, faster deployment cycles, network slicing, and lower total cost of ownership. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute established an industry specification group in 2012 with over 50 members to develop NFV standards. NFV allows operators to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and provide opportunities for energy savings, openness and innovation.

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.What is an RPA CoE?
