Most major enterprises have invested millions of dollars on soIware performance lab infrastructure, that develop recurring maintenance effort and costs, unstable environments, and conflicts over constrained resources. To combat this drain and deliver value, companies need to find ways to optimize. Virtualizing the behavior and performance characteristics of test lab dependencies, CA LISA Service Virtualization has helped many enterprises achieving highly available labs that allow earlier performance testing with greater flexibility, at a much lower cost. Techniques discussed in this session include:
Removing capacity constraints from performance testing lab
Optimizing performance management by decomposing SLAs
Shift-Left: conducting incremental, iterative performance testing
Continuous Testing through Service VirtualizationTechWell
The demand to accelerate software delivery and for teams to continuously test and release high quality software sooner has never been greater. However, whether your release strategy is based on schedule or quality, the entire delivery process hits the wall when agility stops at testing. When software or services that are part of the delivered system, or required environments are unavailable for testing, the entire team suffers. Al Wagner explains how to remove these testing interruptions, decrease project risk, and release higher quality software sooner. Using a real-life example, learn how service virtualization can be applied across the lifecycle to shift integration, functional, and performance testing to the left. Gain an understanding of how service virtualization can be incorporated into your automated build and deployment process, making continuous testing a reality for your organization. Learn what service virtualization can do for you and your stakeholders. The ROI is worth it!

How National Australia Bank (NAB) used CA APM during performance testing to i...CA Technologies
Users are becoming increasingly impatient with new apps that don’t work. Often, you get one shot to get it right. But, new applications are being rolled out all the time, and being accessed from all sorts of devices. Operations need to provide developers with real-world production data to help them identify performance issues before applications go into production. This Application Lifecycle Optimization (or DevOps) is key for businesses to reduce the risk of faulty application rollouts.
Recently at DevOps Summit in New York, Peter Tsatsaronis of National Australia Bank (NAB) discussed how they used Application Performance Management (APM) from CA Technologies to create an exact replica of load and performance data from production to help developers improve new and enhanced application quality. As a result of that, NAB has lowered their transaction response time by 85%, improved developer code efficiency, and even found issues they didn’t know they had , which were all discovered in performance testing, by implementing CA APM.
Aruna Ravichandran, VP, Product Marketing, Application Performance Management and DevOps, CA Technology joined Peter from NAB at this session and shared how CA Technologies is uniquely positioned to help customers in their journey to DevOps transformation .

Presentation from DDD Sydney, May 28th, 2016
Buzz word! More buzz words! And another buzz word!! Now that that's out of the way, if you're thinking of heading down the microservices path, then how do you do it? How do you build the services? What do you need to think about if you're starting from scratch? What if you're converting a legacy app? How do we deal with versioning? Do we have to use a NoSQL solution, just because Netflix does? Do we need to use docker/containers? What about the code? Show me the code! Well, that's what this session is all about. Designing and building microservices in .NET and then handling a bunch of other concerns that a microservices approach will force you to think about. Sounds interesting, doesn't it? You betcha.
SVA discusses the opportunities and challenges they have encountered during their journey with customers, using mainframe offloading projects as an example.

This slides introduces how Weidian's architecture is migrating from monolithic application to Dubbo's based micro-service architecture.
Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery to Facilitate Web Service TestingCognizant

Whitepaper: Volume Testing Thick Clients and DatabasesRTTS
Even in the current age of cloud computing there are still endless benefits of developing thick client software: non-dependency on browser version, offline support, low hosting fees, and utilizing existing end user hardware, to name a few.
It's more than likely that your organization is utilizing at least a few thick client applications. Now consider this: as your user base grows, does your think client's back-end server need to grow as well? How quickly? How do you ensure that you provide the correct amount of additional capacity without overstepping and unnecessarily eating into your profits? The answer is volume testing.
Read how RTTS does this with IBM Rational Performance Tester.

AWS Public Sector Symposium 2014 Canberra | Putting the "Crowd" to work in th...Amazon Web Services
"Cloud" computing provides significant advantages and enormous cost savings by allowing IT infrastructure to be provisioned as a ubiquitous, metered, unit priced and on demand service. However, the other major resourcing issue faced by CIO’s is the provision of skilled labour to develop, support and maintain a increasing wide range of IT applications.
This session will show attendees how the worldwide pool of freelance developers, the "Crowd", can be utilised as a ubiquitous, metered, unit priced and on demand resource pool to work in the "Cloud" to improve responsiveness to customer demands, reduce development timeframes and achieve significant cost savings.
Although the crowd can bring enormous benefits in terms of cost and agility, there are some technical and business barriers to adoption in large organisations. This presentation will discuss the barriers and, using some real examples, will explain how GoSource overcomes them.
In this presentation, we show how Data Reply helped an Austrian fintech customer to overcome previous performance limitations in their data analytics landscape, leverage real-time pipelines, break down monoliths, and foster a self-service data culture to enable new event-driven and business-critical use cases.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
