How Is Literature Useful In The 21st Century
How is Literature Useful in the 21st Century?
The utility of literature in any century, let alone the 21st Century, is difficult to define. One can
certainly make a compelling argument that there are hordes of young people that escape high school
and college without actually reading literature. Sure, students are frequently exposed to literature, but
do they actually engage critically with it? Do they even know how to read it? Do they understand it?
Answers to these questions, as well as others, ultimately impact how one answers the initial question:
how is literature useful in the 21st Century? The brief point to be made here is that literature is only
useful so far as it s understood and appreciated. Assuming one satisfies both criteria then there is no
telling how important literature can be in one s life. The plain fact is, and as Italo Calvino noted, Every
reading of a classic is in fact a rereading and A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it
has to say. In other words, literature has resonance throughout one s life. Themes in literature are
timeless and universal, relevant to any generation in any decade. As a result, literature can inform,
instruct, inspire, console, etc. To explicate this idea, to make it less abstract, one should consider how
relevant the following literary works are in today s times, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, A P
by John Updike and a Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The

Research Paper On Nuclear Fission
What is nuclear fission? How does it work? What does it have to do with
nuclear power plants? These are a few of the many questions asked if one hasn t ever studied nuclear
power or doesn t know how a power plant works. Nuclear fission is the splitting of atoms, which in
nuclear fission is uranium atoms. A neutron is released at a targeted nucleus of uranium 235. Two or
three neutrons are released from the target nucleus along with fission products, or other nuclei, as seen
in the picture below. This process starts a chain reaction. If too many neutrons are present, the reaction
may get out of control. If too few are present, the reaction may stop.
Nuclear Fission
Nuclear fission is almost the same thing as fission, but nuclear fission has one minor difference; its
purpose is to produce energy. Fission is the main chemistry behind nuclear reactors and the power
plant as a whole. Radiation is another addition to the chemistry involved in the production of nuclear
power. The unstable atoms in the fission process give off radiation. This produces a risk in ... Show

It turns out, they re really just the opposite! The water that is used to condense the steam back into
water inside the condenser has consequently been heated in the process of cooling. Environmental
laws regulate the temperature that a Power Plant can place back into the river. The primary reason is
due to plant life. The cooling water from the condenser is sprayed into the air inside the cooling tower
and falls about 60 feet, which cools it before it is continuously recycled to condense more steam.
Water in the vapor rising from the cooling tower is replenished to the condenser cooling system using
water from the Tennessee River. The three water systems at Sequoyah are separate from each other,
and the radioactive water is not permitted to mix with other nonradioactive water

Man With A Plan Essay
The movie Man with a Plan is a satirical film about the campaign of one Vermont man in his quest to
become a member of Congress. The movie takes aim at the political process and Congress; the man,
Fred Tuttle, does not have any experience with government work, nor does he have a proper education
or a plan for what he will do if elected. He makes it clear that he is not motivated by his desire to
impact change on Vermont or create policy, but is actually motivated by the money and the fact that he
does not need qualifications. Man with a Plan illustrates the absurdity of modern politics and paints a
picture of current Congressmen, making it relevant to the political process of today.
The movie Man with a Plan follows the campaign Fred Tuttle, who is running for Congress in the state
of Vermont. His father needs a hip operation, and his farm is failing, so he decides that a seat in
Congress is the best job he could have. Tuttle reasons that he does not need skills or education in order
to hold the position, as other jobs would. This is clearly a dig at the current political system, as the
movie states that a Congress person does not need education or wisdom in order to be a part of
Congress. Furthermore, Tuttle runs off the Regressive Party , a reference to the Progressive ... Show

Fred Tuttle ran for a position in Congress due to the fact that he needed money and a job that did not
require any skills. He wins over a more experienced and qualified candidate due to his charm rather
than his knowledge or policies. This is relevant to the United States today, as unqualified candidates
are often elected due to charm, money, or power, and they are unequipped to hold positions in
government. The movie illustrates the absurdity that modern politics often display and the lack of
seriousness in modern day

Analysis Of Thomas Gainsborough s Portrait Of Grace...
Thomas Gainsborough presents a fabulous portrait of Grace Dalrymple Elliott. This is a full length
painting believed to be commissioned by her lover, Earl of Cholomondeley in 1777 (Major, 2016).
This portrait goes beyond a simple painting of a mistress. Rather, Gainsborough s portrait of Grace is
a study of striking and noble beauty versus a celebration of female sexuality as a commodity.
Gainsborough accomplished this art piece by using several uncommon practices in his portrait making
techniques. The first is using a six foot handle brush working directly on the canvas to give himself a
better viewpoint of his work. Second, Gainsborough often painted by candlelight, attempting to
simulate the soft lighting in which the painting would be viewed (Information for Parents, n.d.).
Gainsborough was very successful in creating an atmospheric mood and unity between the
backgrounds and figures in his paintings. He displayed great skill in the use of color repetitions and
contrasts, fluid brushstrokes, and highlighting. Grace, in her full length portrait, appears both self
confident and majestic as she leans forward on her left foot. She is wearing a simple, snug ribbon
choker around her throat that graciously drapes down the front of her chest where she clasps the train
of her gown in a gesture of vulnerability. Her other jewelry is a pair of small stud gold earrings and a
layered bracelet of strung pearls on both wrists adds a unique touch to not over power or

Comparing Marionettes Inc. And Ex Machina
When it comes to using Artificial Intelligence, one should be able to recognize their limits in doing so.
In the story Marionettes Inc, and the movie, Ex Machina, both mediums displayed a clear and concise
message about Artificial Intelligence, that is, when you create or utilize an AI robot with human like
qualities, there is always a possibility that it may turn against their rightful owner or creator, and will
ultimately lead to their downfall. The extent to which an intelligent, well constructed robot can think,
behave, and act, has no limit. Once you give something a mind of its own, you are incapable of
controlling its actions and behaviours, leading to serious drawbacks of creating a robot. In the movie,
Nathan s persistent goal of

Fast Track Network Protocol Is Unique
As already discussed, this Fast Track network protocol is unique. This has become the point of
curiosity for individuals and firms to try and halt the Fast Track protocol.
Thus the majority would be the giFT project. With reference to Bergner, the preliminary indication of
giFT was the regularly used interface to FastTrack. This giFT almost reached the point to break the
FastTrack protocol. Therefore, FastTrack responded by customizing their encryption technique
making it more complex.
Since the FastTrack protocol became more complex, the giFT changed to enhance a system that can
accumulate many assorted heterogeneous networks and even then, acted as an entity which can share
files.
From then on, it was transformed to giFT Internet File Transport. This transformation triggered the
development of a brand new and improvised network protocol very similar to FastTrack. That is
known as OpenFT.
6.1 The OpenFT Architecture
OpenFT protocol divides the peers in its domain into different roles but instead of 2 tier architecture, it
has added an extra tier building 3 tier control architecture as demonstrated in the figure.
Peers are divided into different categories based on few factors. They are network access performance,
processing speed, usage of its memory as well as accessibility.
The first tier is made up of numerous traditional machines which are also called as User peers. Every
peer in this tier has connections to big group of search peers. The user peers later on might

Design
Looking at the hardware components, the notable part is redesign of the box from the standard box
that is well known to the newly introduced curvy look, which initially takes some to get used to. Also
is the disappearance of the hardware buttons in favour of integrated lights which introduces a sense of
modern device to the user.
Like the bolt+, the bolt has a somewhat boomerang shaped body, 1.8 by 11.4 by 7.3 inches and weigh
less than 2 pounds. It is certainly attractive, but unlike previous models, nothing accumulates over its
Loma contours. It is glossy black to white of the original bolt, with a remote control to match. The
front has a silver TiVo logo at the top of the curve, with a green LED power to the right. Status red and
amber, the lights are usually hidden, but are manifested when it comes to recording, remote control, or
updating activity. The back has an HDMI port, a coaxial cable connector, an Ethernet port, two USB
ports, an eSATA connector to add storage, 3, 5mm and optical audio outputs, the power connector and
a remote button that makes the distance a brief melody. There is a small hatch under the unit that

Queen Nanny Of The Windward Maroons
Queen Nanny of the Windward Maroons, has been overlooked by historians, who limited their focus
to only the male figures in Maroons History. Due to her being overlooked factual information is
unclear and her history was handed down thorough folklore. However, amongst the Maroons
themselves, Queen Nanny also known as Obeah Woman Nanny and Granny Nanny, is held in the
highest honor. Back in the 17th to 18th century, Nanny was a leader of the Rebellious group of black
people called Maroons (people living on mountaintops) due to their style of living in the hilly
mountain tops from the Ashanti Tribe of West Africa, now called Ghana. She led the war between the
Winward Maroon s and The British in the First Maroon War. Though, not originally from Jamaican,
but brought to Jamaica during the time of slavery, she never received her freedom legally until a treaty
was reached between the Maroons and the British. Nanny became, known for her organized plans to
keep and free the Maroons along with other tribal African from slavery. This led to the freedom of also
most 1000 slaves remaining free during the time of slavery in history. During the Era, women are seen
as second class citizens and slaves having no say but Granny Nanny s leadership skills empowered her
to break many barriers and create a name for herself as studied in Organization Leadership.

H. J Mccloskey Argument
Eighteenth century Enlightenment philosophers believed that reason and science were the foundation
of truth; thereby, tradition, faith, and superstition were becoming obsolete. They felt they were coming
out of the darkness of medieval religion and into the light of reason. However, rather than discovering
true liberation after killing God, they had only succeeded in orphaning themselves (Craig, 2008. P.
71). This dissertation will focus on the article On Being an Atheist written by Australian philosopher
H.J. McCloskey in 1968. The purpose of his article was to establish, what he referred to as proofs
against the existence of God.
It is interesting that McCloskey refers to his grounds for evidence as proofs for according to Mark
Foreman, who is Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Liberty University, proof carries with it
connotations of certainty that actually originate from the field of mathematics and is not meant to be
used regarding philosophical arguments pertaining to the existence of God. Theists cannot prove the
existence of God 100%; ergo, the naturalists and atheists cannot provide 100% proof that God does
not exist.
Arguments are defeasible, they are not incorrigible, thus defeaters can be presented; therefore, the
cumulative case approach of combining a number of arguments to make the case is the best ... Show

For example, inanimate objects such as pencil sharpeners, toaster ovens, and iPhone are intelligently
designed; however, the object is not intelligent itself. The fine tuning argument is the strongest
teleological argument; ergo, matter is so finely tuned for life possessing the innate capacity to appear
on this planet. According to Dr. James Hannam, atheists have yet to refute the Fine Tuning argument
to Design, and therefore we have reason to believe there was a divine creator

Content Validity
Content validity is often seen as a prerequisite to criterion validity, because it is a good indicator of
whether the desired trait is measured. If elements of the test are irrelevant to the main construct, then
they are measuring something else completely, creating potential bias. In addition, criterion validity
derives quantitative correlations from test course. Content validity is qualitative in nature, and asks
whether a specific element enhances or detracts from a test or research program. How is content
validity is measured by using surveys and tests, each questions is given to a panel of experts analysts,
and they rate it. The analysts give their opinion about whether the question is essential, useful or
irrelevant to measuring the construct under study. For example, a depression scale in which there is
low content validity if it only shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition content validity addresses in the field of vocational testing and academic, where test items
need to reflect the knowledge actually required for a given topic area (e.g., history) or job skills (e.g.

Lawshe subject matter expert raters (SMEs) is when a panel use the following questions such as Is the
skill or knowledge measured by this item essential , useful, but not essential , or not necessary to the
performance of the construct? (Lawshe, 1975). According to the author Lawshe if the results are more
than half this indicates that the item is essential and show specific content validity. However,

The Wife of His Youth
Question: Discuss the theme of race in Chesnutt The Wife of His Youth ?
After the civil war, racial issues affect society and Charles Chesnutt a regional realist writer tackles the
subject. The difference between black and white, which should logically disappear, increases, and the
African American community is experiencing exclusion in some societies. Chesnutt through his text
The Wife of his youth refers to the problem by showing the contrast between black and white. He does
not hesitate to create a character belonging to the two worlds so that embodies the image of a possible
unification.
The essay begins by the exclusion accentuated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the guests become witnesses and take part in the story. Mr Ryder tells the story as an exterior
character, we can note the use of the pronoun he throughout its history.
He raises many questions to guests to make sure they understand the situation and that they approve of
his decision; Suppose That he was young, and she much older than he, that she was light, and she was
black (Chesnutt 35), Suppose, too, that he made his way to the North ... (Chesnutt 35). He does not
seek to prolong the suspense, but to test and measure the reaction of the members. This attitude shows
that despite his loyalty to his wife, he is none the less attached to his current status. He unveils the
truth when he feels that the members approve the eventual choice; And now, ladies and gentlemen,
friends and companions, I ask you, what he should have done? (Chesnutt 36).
Presumably Chesnutt put his character in a dilemma in order to show that unification is possible
because at the end members share the opinion of Ryder knowing that Liza is black. This is more than
an approval; it is a step forward.
Charles Chesnutt uses some specific techniques of regional realist. First, he plays with the tone of his
characters by using the regional dialect, but he describes some real facts, as in many others of his
writings. For example in The Goophered Grape Vine (26), the narrator is an old black and the

The second captive killer whale was in 1964. This eventually ended up as the first whale to be kept in

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Pneumonia
Introduction: Pneumonia is the leading infectious cause of death in children and the fourth leading
cause of death in the elderly worldwide.1,2 Although pneumonia is a common disease, it rarely affects
healthy individuals. This condition affects people of all ages, however it is most dangerous in
immunocompromised individuals such as children, infants, and older adults.1 Other populations that
are vulnerable are those who are bedridden, inactive, or immobile; those with altered consciousness;
those who have difficulty swallowing; and those who have impaired cough reflexes.1 Risk factors for
pneumonia include cigarette smoking, acute respiratory infections, chronic bronchitis, uncontrolled
diabetes mellitus, uremia, dehydration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pathophysiology: In a normal, healthy lung, air travels through a highway of airways, called
bronchioles, to eventually reach tiny air sacs, called alveoli, the site of gas exchange with the blood
capillaries.1 The right and left lungs are separated by fissures into lobes and are further divided into
segments and then into lobules, which contain the alveoli.1 In pneumonia, a common inflammatory
and infectious disease of the lung, fluid accumulates within the alveoli and/or the lobe, which reduces
the surface area exposed to air making it difficult to breath.3 Typically, the body is able to filter out
germs that invade the respiratory system by using defense mechanisms such as the immune system,
the structure of the nose and throat, coughing, and cilia; however, some germs are able to reach the
lungs to cause infection, especially in those who are immunocompromised.3 For example, someone
who is in a medically induced coma due to a stroke, is unable to cough, and as a result, the germs
remain in the airway. Once the germs enter the lungs, the immune system responds by attacking.3 This
causes the alveoli to inflame, turn red, and fill up with fluid and pus, which are the symptoms of
pneumonia.3 There are three common bacteria that cause pneumonia Streptococcus pneumonia,
Legionella pneumophilia, and Mycoplasma pneumonia.3 Streptococcus pneumoniae or pneumococcus
are the most common

What Is The Theme Of Honesty In Chaucer s Relatable Works
Regardless of the theme or style of a writer s work, a main goal when writing is to make a memorable
impact in the readers life. This is done by making the themes as relatable as possible, as people
respond well with what they can relate to. The relatability of a work arises from the amount of honesty
and sincerity present in the work. An example of an author who creates relatable works is Geoffrey
Chaucer, his writing, exemplified in The Canterbury Tales, is unbiased and honest, creating an
approachable text for any reader. Chaucer is also excellent at making The Canterbury Tales relatable
to everyone by giving his themes faces. Chaucer personifies tales themes through their respective
tellers by describing the tellers in an unbiased way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wife of Bath s tale poses one question, what is the thing that women most desire? (282). This
question is later answered; A woman wants the self same sovereignty over her husband as over her
lover, and master him; he must not be above her, 286). This corresponds with the wife s history and
beliefs as shown her previously mentioned incident with her fifth husband. The wife was only pleased
when she won the power struggle. Applying this theme of a control seeking woman to an actual
character in the story as opposed to only a tale within a tale gives it more truth, making the idea more
personable and realistic. This allows the reader to fully comprehend the concept. The wife s tale also
states, cut short the lives of those who won t be governed by their wives, (292). This quotation further
supports the connection between the wife and her tale, as this is a statement the wife would strongly
believe in. When the reader is faced with a person with a belief instead of being exposed only to the
belief itself, the reader is more likely to accept the idea as valid and genuine. It is easier to accept an
idea when it is supported than an idea by

way we viewed the world. I insisted, pompously, on views that I claimed were the truth; which I now I
have changed. Towards the end of the three weeks, I came to the realization that I was standing on a
foundation made of water. Fortunately, I came to this realization before I drowned. In week two, we
talked about our ethics. Our ethics create our visions, our paths, and our inertia. Our ethics also plays a
heavy part into how outsiders will view us (UN Ethics Office, 2012). Since DPMI, I have reviewed

Jewish Perspective On The Ten Commandments In The Bible
The Jewish perspective on the Ten Commandments originated from Moses making an agreement with
God. It is believed that God himself transmitted the Ten Commandments to Moses on two stone
tablets. Moses later spread the word of God. The Ten Commandments are a part of the Hebrew Bible,
The Torah. The Ten Commandments is also known as The Decalogue. The Ten Commandments are
only a small portion of the Torah but according to Lesley, They are the most important part (pg nbr).
The Ten Commandments are listed twice in the Torah. They can be found in both The Book of Exodus
and The Book of Deuteronomy. In the Torah, the Ten Commandments are organized by the first five

Furious Five Of Econometrics Essay
The Furious Five of Econometrics Introduction A good inquiry into any economic problem today will
likely entail some form of statistical analysis. It is therefore, not surprising to note that the typical
undergraduate curriculum in economics includes a course in econometrics or statistics. There are two
main reasons for this occurrence. First, the improvement in technology and sheer computing power
over the last two decades has enabled us to handle more and more data in less and less time. Back in
the 1960s and 1970s, econometricians used electromechanical desk calculators to churn out
regressions outputs, which may take up to a day for a single regression. Today, the opportunity cost of
not capitalizing on this toolbox is immense and simply cannot be overlooked. Second, economists,
unlike their natural scientists counterparts, do not have the luxury of conducting experiments in
laboratories under suitably calibrated environments to discern causal relationships between different
variables. Cause of effect relationships of policies and human behaviour in different societies and
economies are often vastly complex and intertwined. Large scale social experiments involving people
are, in general, infeasible to conduct due to budgetary, logistical and ethical reasons. Therefore,
economists look to applied statistics and adopt different approaches to rigorously analyse otherwise
incomprehensible problems. Joshua Angrist of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Jörn Steffen

Essay on Karl Marx s Estranged Labor
Karl Marx s Estranged Labor In Karl Marx s early writing on estranged labor there is a clear and
prevailing focus on the plight of the laborer. Marx s writing on estranged labor is an attempt to draw a
stark distinction between property owners and workers. In the writing Marx argues that the worker
becomes estranged from his labor because he is not the recipient of the product he creates. As a result
labor is objectified, that is labor becomes the object of mans existence. As labor is objectified man
becomes disillusioned and enslaved. Marx argues that man becomes to be viewed as a commodity
worth only the labor he creates and man is further reduced to a subsisting animal void of any capacity
of freedom except the will to labor. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that this situation is analogous to a man and his religion. Marx writes, The more man puts
into God the less he retains in himself....The worker puts his life into the object, but now his life no
longer belongs to him but to the object. The result of the worker belonging to the object is that he is
enslaved. The worker belongs to something else and his actions are dictated by that thing. For Marx,
labor turns man into a means. Workers become nothing more than the capital necessary to produce a
product. Labor for Marx reduces man to a means of production. As a means of production man is
diminished to a subsisting enslaved creature void of his true nature. In this condition he is reduced to
the most detrimental state of man: one in which he is estranged from himself. To help expand on this
theme it is useful to look at Marx s allegory of man s life activity. Of the variety of reasons Marx
argues man is estranged from his labor, probably the most significant is his belief that labor estranges
man from himself. Marx argues that the labor the worker produces does not belong to the worker so in
essence the worker does not belong to the worker. By virtue of this condition Marx argues the worker
is enslaved. Enslavement for Marx is a condition alien to man and he becomes estranged from
himself. For Marx, man estranged from himself is stripped of his very nature. Not only because

How do you connect downsizing, which is one of a number of actions being taken, with corporate
culture, which is only one of a number of crises being solved in a manner and to a level that
establishes a positive relationship? Another reason that it is difficult to draw a specific link between
downsizing and organizational culture is that there are many different variations and approaches to
downsizing. A distinction has been made between proactive downsizing, which is planned in advance
and usually integrated with a larger set of objectives, and reactive downsizing, which would be
typified by cost cutting as a last resort after a prolonged period of inattention to looming problems by

Descriptive Essay About Camp Wakeshma
Camp Wakeshma has something special about it and always has me wanting to stay longer. Since I
was 12 years old, I ve been going to Wakeshma every summer for a week. This camp is so simple yet
so fun and exciting. I m driving to camp with William Fulton and our moms when we turn onto Camp
Wakeshma Rd. and go under the huge sign reading the name. We arrive late to camp due to a baseball
tournament, but we check in and put our belongings in the cabin. William and I say our goodbyes and
go find the rest of our cabin. Afterwards we line up for dinner by the flagpole. Nobody could help but
realize one of our cabin mates lost an arm due to cancer. At night when we get ready for bed I see him
change his shirt revealing his scars. As I go to bed, I don t think much of it.
Today is a drag. Every year I can never sleep good the first night and this year it s no different. We do
our regular routine leading up to lunch and discuss more rules while standing at the flagpole. Tony, the
camp unit leader called our cabin to go in first and we made our way into the cafeteria. I stood atop of
the stage where our table sat and you could hear the doors whine as the hungry kids pass through.
Everyone is restless and excited for the first full day of camp. I m just as excited as everyone even
though I m one of the oldest campers. The cafeteria was like a giant school bus with rows of loud kids.

The Great Depression and Hebert Hoover
Following an era of economical prosperity, the Great Depression, otherwise known as the ugliest sister
of the 1900 s family, which lasted an entire decade from 1929 to 1939, began on a fateful day with the
New York Stock Exchange abruptly crashed and was unable to recover quickly. This occurrence, of
course, had an unforgivable effect on the economy, leading to one of the most memorable and
significant eras in American history. Not only affecting the economy domestically, internationally
trading was burdened by the limp leg that was the United States. Socially, people were struggling to
regain their balance after a main income source agriculture was swept away by the Dust Bowl, only
worsening the drawn out effects of the initial Wall Street crash. Politically, the US faced severe
turmoil with presidency of Herbert Hoover due to a lack of action to prevent economic decay and
promote domestic and foreign recovery. Needless to say, after one presidential term, Franklin D.
Roosevelt was elected into office and soon passed the New Deal, a highlight in his presidential career.
However, due to the previous president, there were several critics about the nature and efficacy of
such a policy. The Great Depression was a time of discussion and criticism of political policy and the
nature and efficacy of said policy in dominating the backfire of grand economical proportions within
the United States alone. The presidency of Herbert Hoover only lasted for one term from 1929 to 1933

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Communication
Communication is an ongoing complex process that brings all different types of people together.
Communication creates and rebuilds relationships which can last a lifetime. Even though,
communication could create strong bonds it could also destroy those bonds. When it comes to
communicating, everyone has their flaws as well as me. One of my flaws, when it comes to
communicating, is having the courage to speak my mind within important and necessary
conversations. When it comes to communicating, I tend to hold my tongue instead of expressing how I
truly feel. Even though I know that not all conversations need your opinion or advice, there s still
those conversations that do. There are certain reasons that I have decided to keep my thoughts and
feelings to myself while having conversations with others: fear that the way others perception of me
would change negatively, fear of not knowing how they will respond or accept and the fear of leaving
my stuff vulnerable in front of someone that could possibly hurt me mentally and emotionally. I have
yet to figure out what should be said at the appropriate time, so I rather just keep my thoughts and
comments to myself because I cannot do any harm if I m quiet. My interaction with people has labeled
me as someone that continues to Sugar Coat because of the reasons I listed above. Nevertheless, I had

Essay on Evolution of the Geeks
Evolution of the Geeks
In the past 20th century, the word geek has evolved into many different meanings. The term branched
off to create a person with low social skills, often with high intelligence, a person highly interested in
computer technology, and a person with a devotion to something that places him or her outside of the

to be an insult. The term can also be a badge of honor among subcultures, such as the know it all of

The need to become accepted into what is considered cool implies that being a geek is undesirable to

Sex plays a major role when it comes to the gender of geeks. Males are usually favored to portray

Current Ratio 0.90 1.05 1.03 0.86
Interpretation and Explanation
In case of BBC, we can observe a positive trend. There has been a significant increase in the ratio.
However in 2007, the company s current liabilities were higher than the current assets. But over the
next two consecutive years 2008 and 2009, the company s assets were enough to pay off the short
term debts, and this is a positive sign. Talking about the current year 2010, the current ratio is below
the benchmark, but the cash reserves are more. we can see a constant change in the values of current
assets in a positive trend for last three years, however, not for the year 2010. Again there has been
increase in current liabilities substantially. This can be one of the reasons for a funding cut of £340m
this year by BBC as George Osborne confirms the news on Oct 20th 2010.

Assimilation And Culture In Rita Hook s Eating Vinegar
Assimilation vs Cultural Pacification
It is no secret that people in a foreign land often struggle to assimilate into other cultures. This feat is
particularly difficult in China where cultural and familial ties are deep seated. In Eating Vinegar, Rita
Hooks describes the great lengths one must be willing to go to become accepted in a new culture. She
uses foot binding among other Chinese practices and customs to explain how ridiculous it is to force
others to give up their culture and adopt the prevalent one rather than blend them. One of the most
obvious things which distinguished Sadie from her new peers was her language. Hooks consistently
points out the language barrier by always mentioning when people didn t understand her or spoke in
different languages. She also points out when different terms are used between the two cultures such
as kitchen cleaver. Another way language separates Sadie from society is her job. Her career was
limited to tutoring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though most modern Chinese women do not have bound feet, it was still used to evoke racism toward
Sadie. She was frequently teased by her students and peers for having such big feet which leads to her
interest in foot binding. Toward the end of the story she starts posing like the foot bound women in
Heng s book and eventually convinces herself that Heng was upset that she had big feet which actually
turns out to be true. Heng s feelings toward the size of sadie s feet become evident as the story
progresses. He begins with the attitude that he likes big feet saying that she was his all American girl.
Later his true feelings begin to show when he talks about the poem about the dancing girl with the
bound feet. He talks about her feet saying something can be done about this. When she expresses her
pain, Heng plays it off like he was joking and kisses her feet. This happens again later in the

The Role Of Fate In The Tragedy Of Titus Andronicus, Romeo...
Fate is inevitable, if one chooses to believe in it; however, karma may have a role in what people see
as only fate. Karma, being that you receive energy that you put out, whether it be good or bad, affects
your fate, or what people are destined to face in their lifetime. In the scenarios mentioned later, it is
undoubtedly true that an individual s personality will coincide with karma related turn of events. With
that being said, Shakespeare s tragic plays involve death and deceit, and it is easy to question if the
deaths are deserved because of the existence of karma and fate. In his plays, Shakespeare
conceptualizes fate as something negative, particularly fate equating to ultimate death. In his work,
Shakespeare uses variations of reasons for the death among his characters, which is usually dependent
upon their personalities and actions they ve taken. Between Titus Andronicus and Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare utilizes personality traits to illustrate fate through tragedies. The tragedy of Titus
Andronicus goes beyond his suffering and incapability to remain hold of the throne and his death. In
the play, one of the main characters, Tamora, enters as someone who seems to be a kind and noble
woman, but is soon known to be ruthless and quite malicious. One of her most ruthless moments is
shown in Act Two Scene Three when she is found in the woods with a Moor, Aaron. Surprisingly
enough, the affair is not what makes her ruthless, but that she told her sons, who found her

Frankenstein Novel Analysis Essay
Myrjun Angeles Ms. Ammendolia EWC4UI 10/13/17 Frankenstein Novel Analysis Frankenstein is
partly an epistolary novel. In what way do the letters at the beginning of the text help frame the story
that follows? The series of letters at the beginning of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley are from Robert
Walton, and were sent to his sister, Margaret Saville. In each letter, Walton tells his sister of updates
while he s on one of many sea trips and to coincide with that, readers of the novel get a glimpse of the
personal turmoil he is facing. On his trip, Walton meets a stranger who he thinks can be the one to

So that s why when he encountered the stranger, he immediately found a sense of comfort in confiding
in him because he finally satisfied his need for companionship. In Frankenstein s situation, he too was
seeking a friend because he shared Walton s desire for companionship. The parallel storylines between
a human and a monster make it evident that the two beings, though physically different, may not be as
contrasting as initially thought. Frankenstein is a story within a story. What effect does this technique
have upon the narrative? The story within a story technique can also be called frame story/narrative. In
Frankenstein, this technique helps introduce different characters as well as their perspectives. Through
the letters written by Robert Walton to Margaret Saville, readers learn about Victor Frankenstein and
his creation s story. If one thinks about it, this novel actually has many layers, and can be referred to as
a story within a story that s within another story. The reason being is in Walton s letters, we learn of
Victor Frankenstein and his adversity when he created the monster, which is the last narrative the
readers experience. To restate, this technique brings together the individual stories of Walton, Victor
and Frankenstein in many ways that overall become clearer in the initial letters Mary Shelley uses in
the beginning of the novel. Explain the purposes of each of the following characters in the story. Why
does Shelley need them? How are they

The Similarities Of Frank Wright And Frank OGehry
More and more people create our hotels, schools, homes, theme parks, and several other structures.
Those people are called architects, they are people who design buildings and construct them in some
cases. People may also define them as scientists and artists. Frank Wright and Frank O Gehry are
similar, however, they have their own unique style and design when it comes to buildings. Frank
Wright (1867 1959), is an American architect born on June 8th in Richland Center, Wisconsin

from local business and clean and not painted wood (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica 2017).
The Robie House (Figure 1) located in Chicago and Unity Temple placed in Oak Park (Biography.com
n.d.). Wright was known mainly in Europe but not in the United States. In 1913, Wright designed his
home on his maternal ancestors land in Spring Green, Wisconsin (Architectural Digest n.d.). This
home was named Taliesin, sadly it got burnt down twice and he still remodeled it again (The Editors

nature, history and religion that I will be writing about. One of the ways India and Pakistan are in a
conflict is because of religion and the geography of the region has impacted religion.
Religion is in various places, in different atmospheres. Most people believe that symbolism, beliefs
are all shaped by the world we live in claims Elizabeth Bornman (1), this tells us most commonly
people are born into their religion. Different locations where people may have been born could have
impacted the religious beliefs of those people. Making them believe their religion is the best.

In 1974 it was predicted that it fall under Pakistan since most of the population was Muslim,
according to Borneman (2), this causes a fight over which religion is better. It was decided that India

changing it to part of Pakistan according to Suzane Martin (1),later on it was made official that India
got Kashmir. Which later on caused war between India and Pakistan. This decision has had an impact
on religion. Pakistan is wanting still Kashmir and it is clear that geography is impacting the religion
and the conflict between India and Pakistan. Geography can also not impact religion but nature as

The Field Of Business Management

Business Management
In the field of business there are several fields of emphasis one can choose to focus their major on. I
chose to major in business management for several very distinct reasons that will appear in this paper.
The first reason I choose to focus on a management major was for the opportunity to work with other
people. Management requires collaboration as opposed to simply being an individual effort. The
second reason I am interested in the field of business management is that I am competitive. Because of
this I prefer to step up in a leadership position. The most significant reason for choosing my major is
that I believe in the saying, the greater the risk, the greater the rewards. I know that as a manager I
have to risk the most as the man in charge. I also recognize that I gain the most out of my successes
for putting the most on the line. These reasons that I will discuss in greater detail are the core of why I
chose to major in business management. As mentioned, my interest in business management comes
largely from a desire to collaborate with my peers, but this also means bringing together new
technologies that are modernizing business today. In his article, The Future of Management, Irving
Wladawsky Berger writes, Management talent is critical. As digitization permeates every nook and
cranny of every company, managers at all levels must be fluent in how to best

Baraka And Kaufman
Question: What can be seen by examining the nexus of marginalized experiences expressed in both
Bob Kaufman and Amiri Baraka s poetry (using critical race theory and queer theory), which centers
on homophobia and racism, and produces cultural isolation, alienation/imprisonment, and a
devastating psychic loneliness.
Question: How does the subject presented in Bob Kaufman and Amiri Barak s poetry polarize a shift
in American Culture and thus redefine what it means to be an American.
Bob Kaufman and Amiri Baraka as poet activists drew influence from William Blake and Arthur
Rimbaud by adopting and building on their poetic techniques of self mythologization and self
othering. It is important to analyze these foundations because as Maria Damon ... Show more content

Correspondingly, [Allen] Ginsberg s and [William] Burroughs s homosexuality is consumed as
decontextualized, as if there were no gay culture in which these men participated (or didn t), and as if

(Damon 141). This completely ignores that fact that in San Francisco where Kaufman lived, and in
New York where Baraka lived, the Beat culture lived in close and overlapping proximity with a
burgeoning gay male community which had cultural but as yet no political visibility (141). During the
Beat Generation, the black man was a source of fear and desire for white men both gay and straight. In
this space the Black hipster carried a presumed straightness (144). In her essay Triangulated Desire
and Tactical Silences in the Beat Hipscape: Bob Kaufman and Others Maria Damon juxtaposes the
poem Bagel Shop Jazz, which is a kind of exposé into the Beat poetic scene and Russell Fitzgerald s
unpublished diary, which she deems to be the counter text to the aforementioned poem one
illuminating the other. Nonetheless, The queer side of Bob Kaufman, such as it was, and of the Beat
scene, is dramatically excised from the bagel shop poem which is framed precisely to exclude the
formal presence of queers as a group that makes up the counterculture. There is no queer content in
the poem, except insofar as the homo social economy of desire that flows between white men and
Black men, mediated by women as

Taking a Look at Memory Consolidation
Since Nader, Schafe LaDoux (2000), challenged the previously heralded definition of memory
consolidation, an influx of research addressing various theories of; consolidation, reconsolidation and
potential clinical implications have surfaced. This essay aims to conglomerate the current
understanding of memory reconsolidation, furthermore addressing the resonance upon clinical
psychology.
Neuroscience widely recognised that memories undertake the process of consolidation (Nader
Einarsson, 2010). When memories are nascent, they are prone to interference and are considered labile
. However, through the ensuing process of protein synthesis, they later become stabilised.
Subsequently, the respective disruptions would initiate no detriment (Dudai, 2012). Historically,
consolidation was thought to be the process by which unstable short term memories are transferred
into fixed state long term memories (Nader Einarsson, 2010). Nader Schafe LaDoux (2000)
challenged this concept suggesting it is possible memories become once again unstable. This notion
facilitated a shift in research toward the inherent malleability of memories (Dudai, 2012). It is now
widely embraced in neuroscience that two consolidation processes exist; synaptic consolidation and
system consolidation (Nader Einarsson, 2010). Synaptic consolidation refers to the process of
transforming a memory into long term form at local nodes in the neural circuit that encodes the
memory (Dudai, 2012). This process

Pandora s Box Research Paper
Pandora s Box and its Relation to Greek Culture Pandora s Box is a Greek myth that has been told for
centuries. The Greek created this origin myth in order to explain how evil and hope arose on the Earth.
Pandora, in Greek mythology was the first woman, who was created by the Greek gods. She was
created out of clay by order of Zeus in order to punish Prometheus for stealing fire from the heavens
as a gift to humans. On Earth, Pandora married Prometheus s brother, Epimetheus. After their
marriage, Zeus took his plan into action and gave Pandora a wedding gift in the form of an elegant
box, and warned her that under no circumstances should she open the box ( Pandora s Box Ancient
Greece ). This box, otherwise known as Pandora s Box, contained every human ... Show more content

Greek Mythology played a large role in Greek culture, religion and even everyday life. Greeks used
these myths to describe historical events and to explain features of the universe. Greek mythology
formed the staple of most Greek poetry and epic, and it also influenced philosophers and historians to
a marked degree ( Greek Mythology ). In early times and even today, Greek mythology contains much
of what ancient Greeks accepted about the world and early human life. A small amount of Greeks did
believe some parts of mythology were fantasy, but the majority found the myths and legends true
(Hansen). Pandora s Box introduces several Greek gods and their impact, including Zeus, Athena,
Aphrodite, and Hermes. The Greeks believed at the time in Hellenism, a religion based off of the
Greek gods, or the thirteen Olympians (Hansen). In the folktale, Hellenism is shown through the
control of the Greek gods, particularly Zeus, who is shown to be the presiding control of the

and the cover up) and other issues, resigned in August of 1974. Vice President Gerald R. Ford became
President.
Ford Years (8/1974 1977) ...
President Gerald R. Ford was not exactly an expert in the area of economic issues. Unfortunately, his
advisors did not seem to be much better. Urging people to wear WIN buttons (win inflation now) was
not exactly a serious attempt to improve the economy. Stagflation (the result of a nasty mixture of
inflation, unemployment, and slow economic growth) was the economic environment during much of
Ford s term.
Upon taking office, Ford faced a worsening economy. A steep recession coupled with an inflation rate

When Ford left office in 1977, as mentioned above, the inflation was slightly less than 6% and
unemployment was approximately 7%. The economy was growing at approximately 5% and would
continue to do so through most of 1978. However, the 1973 75 recession was followed up by an
OPEC repeat in 1979. The economic residue left over from the 1973 75 recession, plus the 1979
OPEC repeat, reduced investments and caused the majority of Carter s years to be tarnished by high
inflation, high interest rates, oil shortages, and modest economic growth.
With inflation in 1978 rising to approximately 7%, Carter responded with several actions. One of
Carter s first moves involved the phasing out of federal regulations regarding the airline industry. This
was designed to increase competition and gradually lower prices for consumers. Carter also
deregulated the beer industry. As a result, by early 1979, unemployment had declined to less than 6%
and real median household income had grown by approximately 5%. With investments and industrial
production growing, these factors made people feel that the worse was over.
However, the oil crisis of 1979 changed that picture. Higher inflation and higher interest rates resulted.
Jobs started disappearing. Economic growth first slowed then declined. Gasoline shortages developed.
By the end of 1979, inflation

Analysis Of I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died
Emily Dickinson s I heard a Fly buzz when I died describes a death speaker looks back the moment of
his or her death. Using the objects like the storm, the fly and the melancholy of the people around to
express the mood of the speaker, Dickinson reveals that faces the death, the speaker is afraid at first,
but finally, the speaker finds the calmness and peace inside herself or himself. Like I heard a Fly buzz
when I died , After Death also addresses a moment before death. Rossetti uses the death as a
compensation of the tragic love He did not love me living; but once dead . Two poems both use brief
imagery and setting to describe the atmosphere before death, however, Dickinson focus on the change
of mood and environment, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But they gather together to witness the final performance of the speaker.
Then, Dickinson keeps providing the detailed imagery in the room, and shows the people s reaction to
the speaker s death:
The Eyes around had wrung them dry
And Breaths were gathering firm
For that last Onset when the King
Be witnessed in the Room (Dickinson, lines 5 8)
People are sad and sorrow, and maybe they are the speaker s family members and friends. Their eyes
are like sponges, and crying is stretching the tears out of the sponges and had [has] wrung them dry .
Breaths have touchable weight and shape that can be gathered together and get firmed. Dickinson
endows new property to the breath and cry. This provides a vivid picture in the room like people are
sobbing and weeping weakly, and the same feeling as if our audience is part of the people around the
speaker. Then Dickinson describes the mental world of the people. They are waiting and to witness the
King Death in their own eyes.
What does the last moment look like? Is it horrified? Dickinson gives her answer in the last stanza:
With Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz
Between the light and me
And then the Windows failed and then
I could not see to see (Dickinson, lines 13 16)
There are many symbols in this stanza: a light, blue color, a buzz, and windows. I consider the light is
a symbol of heaven and the fly is the speaker s soul because flies have wings just as angles.

Policymakers have a range of tools to use in conflict...
Policymakers have a range of tools to use in conflict resolution and post conflict reconstruction. While
varied in breath and effect, the political, economic, and military tools policy makers use ties to
traditional methods of conflict resolution. However, as conflicts have evolved to occupy the larger and
more public stages following globalization, so have the tools. Globalization not only increased state to
state awareness of inequalities in wealth and resources, but also within states; increasing tension along
ethnic and tribal lines. (Bercovitch and Jackson, 5) The political, economic, and military tools used in
conflict resolution and post conflict reconstruction present a deeply interconnected method of

Economic measures seek to establish long term macroeconomic policies and sustainable community
development by providing humanitarian relief, essential social services, and communication. Military
measures seek to demilitarize politics and transform cultures of violence through disarmament,
demobilization, establishing law and order, and rebuilding military and police forces. Ramsbotham
also identifies a fourth tenant not mentioned in the paper s question but equally important, social
measures. Social measures seek to heal psychological wounds and facilitate reconciliation by building
trust and inter communal dialog. Together these lines of effort replace lost essential infrastructure,
rebuild manufacturing capability to support the population, and construct the framework for a state to
thrive. (Week 3 Lecture, 3) Yet despite the different goals in each of the categories, they are far from
disconnected in practice. Political, economic, and military tools are as intertwined as their
counterparts in a Realists Balance of Power system. In The Balance of Power in International
Relations, Richard Little describes power as a function of the size of the population and territory,
resource endowment, economic capability, military strength, political stability and competence.
(Little, 174) Stronger nations tend to show stronger

The Characteristics Of Hamlet From Hamlet And Walter White...
A Byronic hero is an anti hero of the highest order. In the seventeenth century, William Shakespeare
wrote the play Hamlet. Four centuries later, the television show Breaking Bad aired. Even with though
these two pieces of media were written hundreds of years apart they still shared something in
common, their main character was a Byronic hero. Hamlet from Hamlet and Walter White from
Breaking Bad display the characteristics of an ultimate antihero. They are Byronic heroes because
each have a troubled backstory, each are anti heroes, both are criminals, have high intelligence and
useful skills, and have deep rooted psychological and emotional issues. Each character had to
experience their own trauma to which led them to become the Byronic heroes that they are. Hamlet s
father, King Hamlet, was murdered by his uncle, Claudius, in cold blood. While still in grief, his
mother married Claudius no less than two months after the King s passing. Walter White fifty year old
man who is an overqualified chemistry teacher who has to watch the world pass him up everyday. He
must also humiliatingly work at a car wash to make extra money to provide for his pregnant wife and
his sixteen year old son who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Decades ago he started a multi
billion company but sold his share early in the business for a mere five thousands dollars. Then to
make it all worse, Walter White was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer on his fiftieth birthday.
Byronic heroes typically have a troubled or empathetic backstory like Hamlet and Walter do. Their
experiences affected them both deeply enough that their personas would change throughout the course
of their stories and lead them to become more of a dark hero and then more villain like. Hamlet started
to go down a spiral of madness whilst debating on whether or not to commit suicide while Walter went
down his own spiral of slowly losing himself, his family, and his morals. Since a Byronic hero is a the
ultimate antihero, one of the qualifications to be a Byronic hero is to be an antihero. They are typically
realists rather than idealists. Realist access situations and examining the facts without using their
emotions while idealists see situations with a

  • 2. How Is Literature Useful In The 21st Century How is Literature Useful in the 21st Century? The utility of literature in any century, let alone the 21st Century, is difficult to define. One can certainly make a compelling argument that there are hordes of young people that escape high school and college without actually reading literature. Sure, students are frequently exposed to literature, but do they actually engage critically with it? Do they even know how to read it? Do they understand it? Answers to these questions, as well as others, ultimately impact how one answers the initial question: how is literature useful in the 21st Century? The brief point to be made here is that literature is only useful so far as it s understood and appreciated. Assuming one satisfies both criteria then there is no telling how important literature can be in one s life. The plain fact is, and as Italo Calvino noted, Every reading of a classic is in fact a rereading and A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say. In other words, literature has resonance throughout one s life. Themes in literature are timeless and universal, relevant to any generation in any decade. As a result, literature can inform, instruct, inspire, console, etc. To explicate this idea, to make it less abstract, one should consider how relevant the following literary works are in today s times, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, A P by John Updike and a Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. • 3. Research Paper On Nuclear Fission What is nuclear fission? How does it work? What does it have to do with nuclear power plants? These are a few of the many questions asked if one hasn t ever studied nuclear power or doesn t know how a power plant works. Nuclear fission is the splitting of atoms, which in nuclear fission is uranium atoms. A neutron is released at a targeted nucleus of uranium 235. Two or three neutrons are released from the target nucleus along with fission products, or other nuclei, as seen in the picture below. This process starts a chain reaction. If too many neutrons are present, the reaction may get out of control. If too few are present, the reaction may stop. Nuclear Fission Nuclear fission is almost the same thing as fission, but nuclear fission has one minor difference; its purpose is to produce energy. Fission is the main chemistry behind nuclear reactors and the power plant as a whole. Radiation is another addition to the chemistry involved in the production of nuclear power. The unstable atoms in the fission process give off radiation. This produces a risk in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It turns out, they re really just the opposite! The water that is used to condense the steam back into water inside the condenser has consequently been heated in the process of cooling. Environmental laws regulate the temperature that a Power Plant can place back into the river. The primary reason is due to plant life. The cooling water from the condenser is sprayed into the air inside the cooling tower and falls about 60 feet, which cools it before it is continuously recycled to condense more steam. Water in the vapor rising from the cooling tower is replenished to the condenser cooling system using water from the Tennessee River. The three water systems at Sequoyah are separate from each other, and the radioactive water is not permitted to mix with other nonradioactive water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Man With A Plan Essay The movie Man with a Plan is a satirical film about the campaign of one Vermont man in his quest to become a member of Congress. The movie takes aim at the political process and Congress; the man, Fred Tuttle, does not have any experience with government work, nor does he have a proper education or a plan for what he will do if elected. He makes it clear that he is not motivated by his desire to impact change on Vermont or create policy, but is actually motivated by the money and the fact that he does not need qualifications. Man with a Plan illustrates the absurdity of modern politics and paints a picture of current Congressmen, making it relevant to the political process of today. The movie Man with a Plan follows the campaign Fred Tuttle, who is running for Congress in the state of Vermont. His father needs a hip operation, and his farm is failing, so he decides that a seat in Congress is the best job he could have. Tuttle reasons that he does not need skills or education in order to hold the position, as other jobs would. This is clearly a dig at the current political system, as the movie states that a Congress person does not need education or wisdom in order to be a part of Congress. Furthermore, Tuttle runs off the Regressive Party , a reference to the Progressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fred Tuttle ran for a position in Congress due to the fact that he needed money and a job that did not require any skills. He wins over a more experienced and qualified candidate due to his charm rather than his knowledge or policies. This is relevant to the United States today, as unqualified candidates are often elected due to charm, money, or power, and they are unequipped to hold positions in government. The movie illustrates the absurdity that modern politics often display and the lack of seriousness in modern day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Thomas Gainsborough s Portrait Of Grace... Thomas Gainsborough presents a fabulous portrait of Grace Dalrymple Elliott. This is a full length painting believed to be commissioned by her lover, Earl of Cholomondeley in 1777 (Major, 2016). This portrait goes beyond a simple painting of a mistress. Rather, Gainsborough s portrait of Grace is a study of striking and noble beauty versus a celebration of female sexuality as a commodity. Gainsborough accomplished this art piece by using several uncommon practices in his portrait making techniques. The first is using a six foot handle brush working directly on the canvas to give himself a better viewpoint of his work. Second, Gainsborough often painted by candlelight, attempting to simulate the soft lighting in which the painting would be viewed (Information for Parents, n.d.). Gainsborough was very successful in creating an atmospheric mood and unity between the backgrounds and figures in his paintings. He displayed great skill in the use of color repetitions and contrasts, fluid brushstrokes, and highlighting. Grace, in her full length portrait, appears both self confident and majestic as she leans forward on her left foot. She is wearing a simple, snug ribbon choker around her throat that graciously drapes down the front of her chest where she clasps the train of her gown in a gesture of vulnerability. Her other jewelry is a pair of small stud gold earrings and a layered bracelet of strung pearls on both wrists adds a unique touch to not over power or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparing Marionettes Inc. And Ex Machina When it comes to using Artificial Intelligence, one should be able to recognize their limits in doing so. In the story Marionettes Inc, and the movie, Ex Machina, both mediums displayed a clear and concise message about Artificial Intelligence, that is, when you create or utilize an AI robot with human like qualities, there is always a possibility that it may turn against their rightful owner or creator, and will ultimately lead to their downfall. The extent to which an intelligent, well constructed robot can think, behave, and act, has no limit. Once you give something a mind of its own, you are incapable of controlling its actions and behaviours, leading to serious drawbacks of creating a robot. In the movie, Nathan s persistent goal of ... • 7. Fast Track Network Protocol Is Unique As already discussed, this Fast Track network protocol is unique. This has become the point of curiosity for individuals and firms to try and halt the Fast Track protocol. Thus the majority would be the giFT project. With reference to Bergner, the preliminary indication of giFT was the regularly used interface to FastTrack. This giFT almost reached the point to break the FastTrack protocol. Therefore, FastTrack responded by customizing their encryption technique making it more complex. Since the FastTrack protocol became more complex, the giFT changed to enhance a system that can accumulate many assorted heterogeneous networks and even then, acted as an entity which can share files. From then on, it was transformed to giFT Internet File Transport. This transformation triggered the development of a brand new and improvised network protocol very similar to FastTrack. That is known as OpenFT. 6.1 The OpenFT Architecture OpenFT protocol divides the peers in its domain into different roles but instead of 2 tier architecture, it has added an extra tier building 3 tier control architecture as demonstrated in the figure. Peers are divided into different categories based on few factors. They are network access performance, processing speed, usage of its memory as well as accessibility. The first tier is made up of numerous traditional machines which are also called as User peers. Every peer in this tier has connections to big group of search peers. The user peers later on might ... • 10. H. J Mccloskey Argument Eighteenth century Enlightenment philosophers believed that reason and science were the foundation of truth; thereby, tradition, faith, and superstition were becoming obsolete. They felt they were coming out of the darkness of medieval religion and into the light of reason. However, rather than discovering true liberation after killing God, they had only succeeded in orphaning themselves (Craig, 2008. P. 71). This dissertation will focus on the article On Being an Atheist written by Australian philosopher H.J. McCloskey in 1968. The purpose of his article was to establish, what he referred to as proofs against the existence of God. It is interesting that McCloskey refers to his grounds for evidence as proofs for according to Mark Foreman, who is Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Liberty University, proof carries with it connotations of certainty that actually originate from the field of mathematics and is not meant to be used regarding philosophical arguments pertaining to the existence of God. Theists cannot prove the existence of God 100%; ergo, the naturalists and atheists cannot provide 100% proof that God does not exist. Arguments are defeasible, they are not incorrigible, thus defeaters can be presented; therefore, the cumulative case approach of combining a number of arguments to make the case is the best ... • 11. Content Validity Content validity is often seen as a prerequisite to criterion validity, because it is a good indicator of whether the desired trait is measured. If elements of the test are irrelevant to the main construct, then they are measuring something else completely, creating potential bias. In addition, criterion validity derives quantitative correlations from test course. Content validity is qualitative in nature, and asks whether a specific element enhances or detracts from a test or research program. How is content validity is measured by using surveys and tests, each questions is given to a panel of experts analysts, and they rate it. After the civil war, racial issues affect society and Charles Chesnutt a regional realist writer tackles the subject. The difference between black and white, which should logically disappear, increases, and the African American community is experiencing exclusion in some societies. Chesnutt through his text The Wife of his youth refers to the problem by showing the contrast between black and white. He raises many questions to guests to make sure they understand the situation and that they approve of his decision; Suppose That he was young, and she much older than he, that she was light, and she was black (Chesnutt 35), Suppose, too, that he made his way to the North ... (Chesnutt 35). He does not seek to prolong the suspense, but to test and measure the reaction of the members. This attitude shows that despite his loyalty to his wife, he is none the less attached to his current status. He unveils the truth when he feels that the members approve the eventual choice; And now, ladies and gentlemen, friends and companions, I ask you, what he should have done? (Chesnutt 36). Presumably Chesnutt put his character in a dilemma in order to show that unification is possible because at the end members share the opinion of Ryder knowing that Liza is black. This is more than an approval; it is a step forward. Charles Chesnutt uses some specific techniques of regional realist. Pathophysiology: In a normal, healthy lung, air travels through a highway of airways, called bronchioles, to eventually reach tiny air sacs, called alveoli, the site of gas exchange with the blood capillaries.1 The right and left lungs are separated by fissures into lobes and are further divided into segments and then into lobules, which contain the alveoli.1 In pneumonia, a common inflammatory and infectious disease of the lung, fluid accumulates within the alveoli and/or the lobe, which reduces the surface area exposed to air making it difficult to breath.3 Typically, the body is able to filter out germs that invade the respiratory system by using defense mechanisms such as the immune system, the structure of the nose and throat, coughing, and cilia; however, some germs are able to reach the lungs to cause infection, especially in those who are immunocompromised.3 For example, someone who is in a medically induced coma due to a stroke, is unable to cough, and as a result, the germs remain in the airway. Once the germs enter the lungs, the immune system responds by attacking.3 This causes the alveoli to inflame, turn red, and fill up with fluid and pus, which are the symptoms of pneumonia.3 There are three common bacteria that cause pneumonia Streptococcus pneumonia, Legionella pneumophilia, and Mycoplasma pneumonia.3 Streptococcus pneumoniae or pneumococcus are the most common ... • 20. What Is The Theme Of Honesty In Chaucer s Relatable Works Regardless of the theme or style of a writer s work, a main goal when writing is to make a memorable impact in the readers life. This is done by making the themes as relatable as possible, as people respond well with what they can relate to. The relatability of a work arises from the amount of honesty and sincerity present in the work. An example of an author who creates relatable works is Geoffrey Chaucer, his writing, exemplified in The Canterbury Tales, is unbiased and honest, creating an approachable text for any reader. Chaucer is also excellent at making The Canterbury Tales relatable to everyone by giving his themes faces. The wife of Bath s tale poses one question, what is the thing that women most desire? (282). This question is later answered; A woman wants the self same sovereignty over her husband as over her lover, and master him; he must not be above her, 286). This corresponds with the wife s history and beliefs as shown her previously mentioned incident with her fifth husband. The wife was only pleased when she won the power struggle. Applying this theme of a control seeking woman to an actual character in the story as opposed to only a tale within a tale gives it more truth, making the idea more personable and realistic. This allows the reader to fully comprehend the concept. The wife s tale also states, cut short the lives of those who won t be governed by their wives, (292). This quotation further supports the connection between the wife and her tale, as this is a statement the wife would strongly believe in. • 23. Furious Five Of Econometrics Essay The Furious Five of Econometrics Introduction A good inquiry into any economic problem today will likely entail some form of statistical analysis. It is therefore, not surprising to note that the typical undergraduate curriculum in economics includes a course in econometrics or statistics. There are two main reasons for this occurrence. First, the improvement in technology and sheer computing power over the last two decades has enabled us to handle more and more data in less and less time. Back in the 1960s and 1970s, econometricians used electromechanical desk calculators to churn out regressions outputs, which may take up to a day for a single regression. Today, the opportunity cost of not capitalizing on this toolbox is immense and simply cannot be overlooked. Second, economists, unlike their natural scientists counterparts, do not have the luxury of conducting experiments in laboratories under suitably calibrated environments to discern causal relationships between different variables. Cause of effect relationships of policies and human behaviour in different societies and economies are often vastly complex and intertwined. Large scale social experiments involving people are, in general, infeasible to conduct due to budgetary, logistical and ethical reasons. Therefore, economists look to applied statistics and adopt different approaches to rigorously analyse otherwise incomprehensible problems. • 24. Essay on Karl Marx s Estranged Labor Karl Marx s Estranged Labor In Karl Marx s early writing on estranged labor there is a clear and prevailing focus on the plight of the laborer. Marx s writing on estranged labor is an attempt to draw a stark distinction between property owners and workers. In the writing Marx argues that the worker becomes estranged from his labor because he is not the recipient of the product he creates. As a result labor is objectified, that is labor becomes the object of mans existence. As labor is objectified man becomes disillusioned and enslaved. Marx argues that man becomes to be viewed as a commodity worth only the labor he creates and man is further reduced to a subsisting animal void of any capacity of freedom except the will to labor. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argues that this situation is analogous to a man and his religion. Marx writes, The more man puts into God the less he retains in himself....The worker puts his life into the object, but now his life no longer belongs to him but to the object. The result of the worker belonging to the object is that he is enslaved. The worker belongs to something else and his actions are dictated by that thing. For Marx, labor turns man into a means. Workers become nothing more than the capital necessary to produce a product. Labor for Marx reduces man to a means of production. As a means of production man is diminished to a subsisting enslaved creature void of his true nature. In this condition he is reduced to the most detrimental state of man: one in which he is estranged from himself. To help expand on this theme it is useful to look at Marx s allegory of man s life activity. Of the variety of reasons Marx argues man is estranged from his labor, probably the most significant is his belief that labor estranges man from himself. Marx argues that the labor the worker produces does not belong to the worker so in essence the worker does not belong to the worker. By virtue of this condition Marx argues the worker is enslaved. Enslavement for Marx is a condition alien to man and he becomes estranged from himself. For Marx, man estranged from himself is stripped of his very nature. Not only because ... There has been a significant increase in the ratio. However in 2007, the company s current liabilities were higher than the current assets. But over the next two consecutive years 2008 and 2009, the company s assets were enough to pay off the short term debts, and this is a positive sign. Talking about the current year 2010, the current ratio is below the benchmark, but the cash reserves are more. we can see a constant change in the values of current assets in a positive trend for last three years, however, not for the year 2010. • 37. Assimilation And Culture In Rita Hook s Eating Vinegar Assimilation vs Cultural Pacification It is no secret that people in a foreign land often struggle to assimilate into other cultures. This feat is particularly difficult in China where cultural and familial ties are deep seated. In Eating Vinegar, Rita Hooks describes the great lengths one must be willing to go to become accepted in a new culture. She uses foot binding among other Chinese practices and customs to explain how ridiculous it is to force others to give up their culture and adopt the prevalent one rather than blend them. One of the most obvious things which distinguished Sadie from her new peers was her language. Hooks consistently points out the language barrier by always mentioning when people didn t understand her or spoke in different languages. She also points out when different terms are used between the two cultures such as kitchen cleaver. Another way language separates Sadie from society is her job. Her career was limited to tutoring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though most modern Chinese women do not have bound feet, it was still used to evoke racism toward Sadie. She was frequently teased by her students and peers for having such big feet which leads to her interest in foot binding. Toward the end of the story she starts posing like the foot bound women in Heng s book and eventually convinces herself that Heng was upset that she had big feet which actually turns out to be true. Heng s feelings toward the size of sadie s feet become evident as the story progresses. He begins with the attitude that he likes big feet saying that she was his all American girl. Later his true feelings begin to show when he talks about the poem about the dancing girl with the bound feet. He talks about her feet saying something can be done about this. • 38. The Role Of Fate In The Tragedy Of Titus Andronicus, Romeo... Fate is inevitable, if one chooses to believe in it; however, karma may have a role in what people see as only fate. Karma, being that you receive energy that you put out, whether it be good or bad, affects your fate, or what people are destined to face in their lifetime. In the scenarios mentioned later, it is undoubtedly true that an individual s personality will coincide with karma related turn of events. With that being said, Shakespeare s tragic plays involve death and deceit, and it is easy to question if the deaths are deserved because of the existence of karma and fate. In his plays, Shakespeare conceptualizes fate as something negative, particularly fate equating to ultimate death. In his work, Shakespeare uses variations of reasons for the death among his characters, which is usually dependent upon their personalities and actions they ve taken. Between Titus Andronicus and Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare utilizes personality traits to illustrate fate through tragedies. The tragedy of Titus Andronicus goes beyond his suffering and incapability to remain hold of the throne and his death. In the play, one of the main characters, Tamora, enters as someone who seems to be a kind and noble woman, but is soon known to be ruthless and quite malicious. One of her most ruthless moments is shown in Act Two Scene Three when she is found in the woods with a Moor, Aaron. Surprisingly enough, the affair is not what makes her ruthless, but that she told her sons, who found her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Frankenstein Novel Analysis Essay Myrjun Angeles Ms. Ammendolia EWC4UI 10/13/17 Frankenstein Novel Analysis Frankenstein is partly an epistolary novel. In what way do the letters at the beginning of the text help frame the story that follows? The series of letters at the beginning of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley are from Robert Walton, and were sent to his sister, Margaret Saville. In each letter, Walton tells his sister of updates while he s on one of many sea trips and to coincide with that, readers of the novel get a glimpse of the personal turmoil he is facing. So that s why when he encountered the stranger, he immediately found a sense of comfort in confiding in him because he finally satisfied his need for companionship. In Frankenstein s situation, he too was seeking a friend because he shared Walton s desire for companionship. The parallel storylines between a human and a monster make it evident that the two beings, though physically different, may not be as contrasting as initially thought. Frankenstein is a story within a story. What effect does this technique have upon the narrative? The story within a story technique can also be called frame story/narrative. In Frankenstein, this technique helps introduce different characters as well as their perspectives. Through the letters written by Robert Walton to Margaret Saville, readers learn about Victor Frankenstein and his creation s story. If one thinks about it, this novel actually has many layers, and can be referred to as a story within a story that s within another story. The reason being is in Walton s letters, we learn of Victor Frankenstein and his adversity when he created the monster, which is the last narrative the readers experience. To restate, this technique brings together the individual stories of Walton, Victor and Frankenstein in many ways that overall become clearer in the initial letters Mary Shelley uses in the beginning of the novel. Those people are called architects, they are people who design buildings and construct them in some cases. People may also define them as scientists and artists. Frank Wright and Frank O Gehry are similar, however, they have their own unique style and design when it comes to buildings. Frank Wright (1867 1959), is an American architect born on June 8th in Richland Center, Wisconsin (Biography.com n.d.). A modern design, he produced an organic and clear American style (Architectural Digest n.d.). The conflict between India and Pakistan is so big they are warning each other with Nuclear war impacted by physical geography. How has the physical geography of Southern Asia impacted the conflict between India and Pakistan since the 20th century? There are three major factors that are affecting the relationship between India and Pakistan relating to geography. These three factors are nature, history and religion that I will be writing about. One of the ways India and Pakistan are in a conflict is because of religion and the geography of the region has impacted religion. Religion is in various places, in different atmospheres. Most people believe that symbolism, beliefs are all shaped by the world we live in claims Elizabeth Bornman (1), this tells us most commonly people are born into their religion. The Field Of Business Management Gerardo Gutierrez Courtney Graeff ENG 122 049 22 October 2014 Business Management In the field of business there are several fields of emphasis one can choose to focus their major on. I chose to major in business management for several very distinct reasons that will appear in this paper. The first reason I choose to focus on a management major was for the opportunity to work with other people. Management requires collaboration as opposed to simply being an individual effort. The second reason I am interested in the field of business management is that I am competitive. Because of this I prefer to step up in a leadership position. The most significant reason for choosing my major is that I believe in the saying, the greater the risk, the greater the rewards. I know that as a manager I have to risk the most as the man in charge. I also recognize that I gain the most out of my successes for putting the most on the line. These reasons that I will discuss in greater detail are the core of why I chose to major in business management. As mentioned, my interest in business management comes largely from a desire to collaborate with my peers, but this also means bringing together new technologies that are modernizing business today. In his article, The Future of Management, Irving Wladawsky Berger writes, Management talent is critical. As digitization permeates every nook and cranny of every company, managers at all levels must be fluent in how to best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Question: How does the subject presented in Bob Kaufman and Amiri Barak s poetry polarize a shift in American Culture and thus redefine what it means to be an American. This completely ignores that fact that in San Francisco where Kaufman lived, and in New York where Baraka lived, the Beat culture lived in close and overlapping proximity with a burgeoning gay male community which had cultural but as yet no political visibility (141). • 44. Taking a Look at Memory Consolidation Since Nader, Schafe LaDoux (2000), challenged the previously heralded definition of memory consolidation, an influx of research addressing various theories of; consolidation, reconsolidation and potential clinical implications have surfaced. This essay aims to conglomerate the current understanding of memory reconsolidation, furthermore addressing the resonance upon clinical psychology. Neuroscience widely recognised that memories undertake the process of consolidation (Nader Einarsson, 2010). When memories are nascent, they are prone to interference and are considered labile . However, through the ensuing process of protein synthesis, they later become stabilised. Subsequently, the respective disruptions would initiate no detriment (Dudai, 2012). Historically, consolidation was thought to be the process by which unstable short term memories are transferred into fixed state long term memories (Nader Einarsson, 2010). Nader Schafe LaDoux (2000) challenged this concept suggesting it is possible memories become once again unstable. This notion facilitated a shift in research toward the inherent malleability of memories (Dudai, 2012). It is now widely embraced in neuroscience that two consolidation processes exist; synaptic consolidation and system consolidation (Nader Einarsson, 2010). Synaptic consolidation refers to the process of transforming a memory into long term form at local nodes in the neural circuit that encodes the memory (Dudai, 2012). This process ... Four centuries later, the television show Breaking Bad aired. Even with though these two pieces of media were written hundreds of years apart they still shared something in common, their main character was a Byronic hero. Hamlet from Hamlet and Walter White from Breaking Bad display the characteristics of an ultimate antihero. They are Byronic heroes because each have a troubled backstory, each are anti heroes, both are criminals, have high intelligence and useful skills, and have deep rooted psychological and emotional issues. Each character had to experience their own trauma to which led them to become the Byronic heroes that they are. Hamlet s father, King Hamlet, was murdered by his uncle, Claudius, in cold blood. While still in grief, his mother married Claudius no less than two months after the King s passing. Walter White fifty year old man who is an overqualified chemistry teacher who has to watch the world pass him up everyday. He must also humiliatingly work at a car wash to make extra money to provide for his pregnant wife and his sixteen year old son who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Decades ago he started a multi billion company but sold his share early in the business for a mere five thousands dollars. Then to make it all worse, Walter White was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer on his fiftieth birthday. Byronic heroes typically have a troubled or empathetic backstory like Hamlet and Walter do. Their experiences affected them both deeply enough that their personas would change throughout the course of their stories and lead them to become more of a dark hero and then more villain like. Hamlet started to go down a spiral of madness whilst debating on whether or not to commit suicide while Walter went down his own spiral of slowly losing himself, his family, and his morals.
