of guns and suggests that knives and dogs should replace guns. According to the article, ownership
of guns by civilians is not justifiable and that the Second Amendment does not imply that ordinary
citizens should own guns. As seen in the article, there have been several discussions regarding gun
control with some supporting gun ownership while others supporting gun control. In this essay it
will be argued that civilians should own guns for their protection and security and because the
Second Amendment supports gun ownership.
According to Ivins, the Second Amendment allows well regulated militias to own and use guns.
However, the author acknowledges that while this is true, the well regulated militia does not include
unregulated citizens as it is this lack of gun control that is destroying the security of the nation.
While the Second Amendment and what it entails should be supported, it will be wrong to agree
with the article that gun ownership by unregulated citizens is jeopardizing the security of the
