Abstract: In order to determine how pH and temperature affect the liver enzyme catalase, an
experiment was conducted. Catalase breaks apart hydrogen peroxide producing water and oxygen.
Using an O2 sensor to measure how much additional oxygen is added into a sealed Nalgene bottle,
we could determine the enzymes effectiveness. Three variations of temperature were tested: cold,
hot and room temperature. This was done by taking test tubes with the three different samples and
placing them in a Nalgene Bottle. It was determined that the enzyme is most effective when at
room temperature although still functions when it is chilled. The heated sample was drastically
less effective. The pH was tested by adding acid (HCl), base () and neutral (water) to the enzyme.

pressures this creates at school, educators extend the school day by assigning homework. It is a
common belief among educators that homework helps create a student with a disciplined mind that
can learn easier (Marzano and Pickering). However, according to Alfie Kohn, In an attempt to create
more learning by doing homework, students may actually be learning less than they are capable of
(qtd. in Ponte). The assignment of homework in education is not beneficial since it does not
increase scores, not all kids have adequate support, and students need time to learn outside of

For some people its the catchy jingle that catches their attention. For others it may be the famous
celebrity that appears on their screen. Some people are even drawn in by the corny catch phrases
and over dramatic acting. No matter the case, companies tend to spend billions of dollars in
advertising, pursuing customers to buy their must have products, and spending whatever money
necessary to get their messages across to those watching. Throughout the years, marketing
