Analysis Of The Joy Of Secrecy
I
The Joy of Secrecy
Dear reader, I ask you to accompany me on a journey through the mind of a great creator. Not the
Great Creator, mind you, but only one, and that one is myself. Many would consider me to be a
rash man, one of immense skill but little actual talent, one who believes more intensely than
rational thought may permit. And in that sense, they consider me to be a dreamer. But what a
perfect profession I have found! It is the most acceptable profession for a dreamer to have, in my
honest opinion, for what other type of work allows one to make his dreams a reality? Truly,
animation is the one true profession for dreamers, the most accepting line of work for such strong
and skilled personalities. I, myself, find that life is merely a composition of brush strokes and
feathered lines sketched by a hand careless in its execution. A hand that may erect and raze as it
wishes, or, in such cases as my own, as it is commanded by an even higher power than that which
wills life from vacuous space.
Among my company my associates, if you will, or if you will not, my coworkers I alone dare to
dream of the unreality of life, dare to reject the hand that abides by no mortal law or rule of
happiness. My lines do more than animate ink and paper in a sort of strange necromancy. From
my own hand I bestow life upon flat bodies, make them twist and turn and sing the body electric . I
am a special sort of man, a unique form of animator, one who dreams more than most, often more

A League Of Their Own Narrative Analysis
This section employs narrative analysis to the story A League of Their Own in order to
highlight the moral of the film that women have a choice over their future and do not have to be
stay at home mothers. Once again, a story needs a plot with a beginning, middle, and end
(Sellnow, 2014, p. 60). Dottie and Kit s story begins in the small farm town where they work at
the dairy and play ball for fun. During a game, a recruiter takes notice of Dottie, then from there,
Dottie and Kit s baseballcareer takes off. Their upward progression proves that anything is possible.
Tensions run high between sisters Dottie and Kit. Kit hates how good Dottie is at baseball and does
not believe that Dottie wants to even be on the team. All the while, Dottie does not understand Kit s
frustration. Dottie tells Mr. Lowenstein she is leaving if she is not put on another team. Instead, Kit
gets put on another team.
The climax of the story is reached, Dottie and Kit have a critical conversation where they share
their true feelings with one another. It is at this moment that Dottie realizes she really does not
know why she is still in the league. In relevance to the moral, Kit is expressive about her love for
baseball, while Dottie seems to detach herself. She knows that when her husband comes back from
the Army, she must go back to him because, sticking to the bandwagon, Dottie believes she should
remain a housewife. Meanwhile, Kit does trust this outlook on life and she accepts the view that
she can choose a different course for her life. During this confrontation, the audience is able to see
the split of ideals of what one s life should reflect. They can see that Dottie is stuck in the mindset
of staying home and raising children, while Kit is up to date with modern society by understanding
that there is so much more to her life than what society says she should be.
In examination of the text, one of the first steps is to describe the setting (Sellnow, 2014, p. 55).
The story takes place in a small farm town in Oregon where no one really makes anything of
themselves. Dottie and Kit leave this setting to demonstrate that taking chances and following one s
dreams can make their life great. Dottie and Kit go against the norm of

Attending A Mandatory 3 Day Seminar
There is a plethora of issues that I have identified within the situation presented. Serving as the
seminar leader, it would be of the utmost importance that I ensure adherence to the promises made
to these individuals. The displaced employees are unexpectedly dealing with the stress, uncertainty,
and betrayal of losing their jobs, security and health care. Therefore, these individuals feel
completely out of control and angry. In order to receive their final paycheck, the affected
individuals are required to attend a mandatory 3 day job search seminar, additionally they are
guaranteed to be able to speak freely without Human Resourcesknowing what they say, whereas, all
information they divulge within the seminar has been guaranteed to be confidential. On day two, of
the three day seminar human resource representatives arrive to observe.
Issues Identified:
1)1,100 displaced workers let go in one week.
2)Displaced workers forced to cope with feelings of distrust, anger, resentment, Etc....
3)Displaced workers forced to attend mandatory three day seminar in order to receive their final
paycheck.
4)Day two, HR representatives stopping by to observe the seminar
5)Breaking the promise of confidence and the freedom to speak without ramifications.
Upon identifying the issues with this stressful and uncomfortable situation that this pharmaceutical

Theories Of Discovering Periodic Trends
Discovering Periodic Trends Introduction For years, many scientists put together several different
lists of the elements based on theories about the properties of these elements but the first official
periodic table was assembled by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869. Later, due to modern communication
abilities, scientists modified Mendeleev s periodic table to make it more organized and easier to
understand. The current version was organized in a way that scientists could easily identify trends
like density, melting/boiling points, ionization energy, electronegativity, and atomic mass.
Experimental Data on the properties of elements 1 through 36 were recorded and formatted on an
Excel sheet. This data was converted into a series of graphs in... Show more content on

They learned that the density of an element increase from top to bottom and inward towards the
transitions metals. They also learned that the boiling and melting point trends are similar in
pattern with the density trend. They learned that the ionization energy decreases top to bottom
and increases left to right. They also learned that the electronegativity trend is similar in pattern
to the ionization energy trend except it does not affect any of the noble gases except for Xeon.
Lastly, they learned that the atomic radius increases top to bottom and decreases left to right.
This research lab is very reliable because the sources where the information was gathered was
credible and they all agreed with each other. The information gained from this lab is of high
significance because it is fundamental to the understanding of all chemistry. Of course there were
a lot of cases in which there were occasional hiccups in the general periodic trends. These are due
to the specific nature of those elements and it might be a good idea next time to highlight those
outlying values in a different color on the graph and provide an explanation underneath as to why
the highlighted element does not follow the rule of that specific

SimГіn BolГvar s Early Life
Early Life:
SimГіn BolГvar, in full SimГіn JosГ© Antonio de la SantГsma Trinidad BolГvar y Palacios, was a
Venezuelan military leader who was instrumental in the revolutions against the Spanish empire. He
was born on the 24th of July 1783 in Caracas, New Granada. He died on the 17th of December
1830 in Santa Marta, Colombia.
SimГіn BolГvar comes from a wealthy family that belonged to the aristocratic upper class. His
family s fortune consists of rich gold and copper mines in Venezuela. His father was the Colonel
Juan Vicente BolГvar y Ponte and his mother was ConcepciГіn Palacios Blanco. He was the
youngest, he had two older sisters: MarГa Antonia y Juana and a brother: Juan Vicente. His father
died in 1786 when he was only three years old. His mother ConcepciГіn raised them, supervised
their education, and administrated the family s properties. After six years of his father s death, his
mother passed away and he was orphaned at the age of 9. He was left with his paternal heritage,
and his cousin s Juan Jerez inheritance that was given to him in 1784.
After the loss of his mother, both of his sisters married while SimГіn and his brother Juan Vicente

Pete Turner Essay
Pete Turner is a famous photographer who was best known for his colored photography.
All of his images combine bold color and graphic design. Turner uses techniques such as using an
intense color palette, geometry, hue and saturation, creating vanishing points, and surrealism.
Turner started taking photos at a young age. He started around 14 years old and used color print
and transparency material. At the start of his career he took pictures when he was drafted into the
United States military service. After discharged from the military, Turner moves to New York and
takes pictures that are featured in National Geographic, Sports Illustrated,
Timex, Esquire, and the International Museum of Photography. He took pictures to advertise

Hue and saturation are major editing techniques Turner utilizes. In the Nikon USA article
Pete Turner: Master of Color Photography, Turner states, I ll work with color levels and curves,
hue and saturation, but not with filters or composite effects. I don t do any photo composition
partly because I don t like the look of it, and also because it s too easy and too many people are
doing it. I don t like to follow the path of what s trendy. Saturated color helps to emphasize the
boldness of his pictures. He also uses saturation to make parts of his picture more or less bold.
Turner does this to make parts of the picture more apparent than others and this creates vanishing
points. Vanishing points are apparent in all of Pete Turners photos. After saturating parts of the
image and editing it with a digital palette, Turner is able to create vanishing points. Some of the
vanishing points he creates a lot are not straight lines. For example, after he makes a blue and
green that are next to each other bold, he then saturates the area where they meet and this makes the
line blurred and appear not straight anymore. He has done this with people too. Turner makes

Modeling Of Fractal Antenna Using Artificial Neural Network
1. Title: Modeling of fractal antenna using Artificial Neural Network.
2.Introduction: In high performance spacecraft, aircraft, missile and satellite applications, where
size, weight, cost, performance, ease of installation, and aerodynamic profile are constraints, low
profile antennas may be required. Presently, there are many other government and commercial
applications, such as mobile radio and wireless communications that have similar specifications. To
meet these requirements, micro strip antennas can be used [1,2].
The expensive growth of wireless system and booming demand for variety of new wireless
application,it is important to design an antenna whose size, shape, weight and cost will be less. If it
is possible that a single antenna can work on more than one frequency then it is good for us. So
generally fractal antenna is used as multiband antenna.
The fractal geometry concept can be used to reduce antenna size. So fractal shaped antennas are
good choice to reduce antenna size and get multiband behavior.
The fractal antenna can be classified on the basis of iteration as 0 iteration,1st iteration,2nd iteration
etc.
For fulfilling all the requirement introduced above fractal microstrip patch antennas are
designed. As the number of iteration increases the time consume for solving matrix generated in
simulator based on method of moment(IE3D) increases. Due to this reason we are designing an
artificial neural network for microstrip fractal antenna.

We have mentioned the increased importance of B2B branding and the differences compared to
B2C. B2B branding has been shown to factor in emotions as well as rationality and relationships at
a greater extent than B2C (Leek Christodoulides 2011). How should Canon act to successfully
brand itself in this arena? According to Fournier Avery (2011) branding is shifting from
differentiation to resonance. Companies can achieve greater success by embedding themselves
naturally in web conversations with integrated brand messages . Then the question becomes, how
can one apply this to B2B branding? While it is important to emphasize the unique value
proposition of Canon s products on mediums such as the company s website, the emotional aspect

The Power Of Adolf Hitler
There are many powerful leaders around the world that are one with the words, but one really
stands out: Adolf Hitler. He was very persuasive and he used the power of words to his
competence to make people stand beside him. Hitler was not a pleasant man, but he was a very
astute one; he could convince so many people that Jewish people were ominous in a couple of
short sentences. Additionally, he was so strong in various ways and that is why one may think of
Adolf Hitleras the most effective in using the power of words and language to influence others
than any other man. Hitler was always very persuasive, and three reasons why include: the way
he uses words to make the message persuasive, how he uses propaganda to convince people, and
the way he uses words to create emotion. To begin, the way Hitler uses words to make the
message persuasive is very imperative. Adolf Hitler always convinced people that Jews were
abhorrent people, and the way he did that was scare tactics. People frequently make decisions off
of fear, so he chose to tell people about the scary things that Jews would do if they took over. To
add, this frightened Germans, making them rancor all Jews, which put Hitler in the right direction
to becoming a powerful leader. Even though everything Hitler said about Jews was apocryphal,
he made a lot of people believe that it was accurate, because of the way he convinced people and
got them on his side. In the political field he refuses the state the means for its

For my learning segment, I included plenty of opportunities for students to pair share because Lee
Vygotsky believed students need to reflect on their learning in their own words. The whole class

English language learners, struggling, IEP and 504 students to help them develop a better
understanding of the content and academic language of the lesson by having the opportunity to
share and communicate with their peers. Students will also be putting to practice the language
demands of the lesson by having to speak and listen during pair sharing. Along with pair sharing I

name the two numbers we multiply, I will point to those two numbers as I tell the class correct
we multiply these two numbers and place our answer above in the quotient as I point where I am

my IEP and struggling students on track as to where we are. Also, for my 504 student, since he
gets distracted easily he needs frequent prompting to keep him on task. I plan on doing so by
asking him the same questions I will be asking the entire class. For example, if I am thinking of
asking the class, After multiplication what is my following step? , instead of asking the class I
would direct that question to him to call on his attention and get him to focus. He might not be
able to answer since he was distracted but it will get him to focused since he was called

Language Planning and Language Development
LANGUAGE PLANNING AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
Language is a typically human phenomenon. In moving from the natural being of animal existence
to the cultural being of human existence, language plays the decisive role. Language gives a sense
of identity to an individual as well as a social group and, in the process, creates multiple identities.
The maintenance, merger, clash and change in identities based on and reflected in the language
change has prompted linguists, philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists and
political scientists to study language in its multifarious dimensions. Since economic and societal
planning have to, of necessity, take into account the context of planning, there is no wonder that

5. Illiteracy is a major problem of the country (Pattanayak 1974). Out of 800 million illiterates in
the world, India is credited to have 400 million . if in eradicating illiteracy the intention is to move
from a culture of silence to a culture of thinking participation and the emphasis is on the creation
of an intelligent task force for economic and industrial development, then, urgent and bold steps
need to be taken in this area. Literacy in a multilingual must be based on the expressed needs of a
people3. Secondly, the language of literacy has to be determined keeping in view the various
contexts of language use and strategies linking the languages of literacy with that of education and
administration.
It would thus be quite clear that whether it is in the field of language use in education, language
use in administration or in mass media, there is a constant need to weigh alternatives and plan
action. The examples cited above are as true of any multilingual country as they are of India. Such
examples not only establish the necessity for language planning, but also the need to analyse its
process and product.
Before talking about language planning, one must understand the motivation and mechanisms of
planning. Planning is not merely a catalogue of resources and the organisation and mobilization of
these resources to reach a certain defined goal. Since the technocrat is seldom the decision maker, it
is important that the planner provides alternatives and

Family Experience In My Family
My family hasn t had the best luck with dogs. I am 14 years old and I have had 5 dogs in my life.
There was Foxy who had a deathly seizure, Jazzy who died of old age and Jitters who passed after
4 months of having her. Things were hard. Now I have two 8 pound pals; a bouncy, bubbly bullet
of a dog named Mimsy Moo and a dogcat hybrid named Kevin Bacon. Kevin is always basking in
the sun and taking naps while Mimsy is on the move whenever she can. Mimsy has been in our
lives for about a year but we didn t get her until we went through barrels of trouble. This is the
story of how Mimsy Moo became a permanent member of the Kostal family.
Kevin and I have never been the best of friends until about June of this year. This is because I
loved him so much that I annoyed him. A particular moment where I realized how much Kevin
disliked me was when he was sitting on the couch. I ran up to him cooing Kevviiin!! and he
growled and bit me right on the schnoz. My nose and cheek were red for quite a while. One day,
I saw my mom looking at Second City Canines website which is the organization where we got
Kevin. I asked her what she was doing and she said we were probably going to get another dog.
Why? Cause Kevin hates you. That reason was good enough for me.
It was a few days later and my mom called me upstairs. I knew that for the past hour and a half
she was scanning the internet so I hopped the stairs two at a time as I excitedly asked what was

Illegal Immigration And The United States

Introduction to American Government and Politics

Illegal Immigrants Coming to the United States
Illegal immigration and border patrol are becoming two of America s top problems. The border
separates Mexico from the United States, in particular Arizona and Texas. The fence is becoming a
bigger issue for illegal immigrants to cross which, in turn, is making it an issue for border security.
Different comparisons between Arizona and Texas and their state laws on illegal immigrationwill
be made, the federal government s policies on illegal immigration, and President Barack Obama
views illegal immigration are all important issues for this topic. As illegal immigration continues to
increase it is not going to end anytime soon.
Demographics are prominent in illegal immigration because it shows where people come from. As
of 2014, the United States has approximately 11 million illegal immigrants of all nationalities.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, many of the unauthorized immigrants are born
in North America which includes Mexico and Central America. Approximately 1.3 million are
from Asia, 800,000 from South America, 300,000 from Europe, and 200,000 from other parts of
the world. Mexico had the highest birth rate of unauthorized immigrants (Nwosu, Batalova, and

Response Paper: Defining Racism
In this article by Beverly Daniel Tatum, she uses her various life experiences to show the issues that
come along with attempting to define racism in America. There are several external issues that come
not only from defining racism, but with separating racism from prejudice. In dispelling
preconceived notions that these two words are interchangeable, Tatum makes several distinctions in
the meaning and application of the two words in everyday life. Before going further into the
separating factors of the two words, Tatum discusses how unintentional our prejudices can be.
Throughout her article, Tatum... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to her, prejudice is an inescapable product of the racist soceity in America. She goes on
to further explain the evolution of internalized oppression, which is when members of stereotyped
groups internalizes and perpetuates the stereotyped categories of his or her group. In addressing
the issue of intenalized oppression, Tatum gives some responsibility for the state of racism to the
very people who suffer from it.
In the article, Tatum uses the definition of racism that is given by David Wellman in his book
Portraits of White Racism, which says that racism is a system of advantage based on race
(Tatum, 1997). This definition is something that I found to be very interesting. In many cases,
racism is not defined to include the advatages that come from its existance. Instead racism is seen
as a singular act, and never as a wholistic system that subtly disadvantages a specific group of
people. When discussing how to end racism, no one ever gives solutions to erradicate the
subleminal and covert racism that permeates every system from education to healthcare, because
that would shoot down the ideal that in America is an equal and fair place for achieving one s
dreams.
In the last section of her article, Tatum address whether or not racism is exclusive to Whites or
whether it is applicable to all people regardless of race. In this section, she is very specific is
stating that the

The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien
In modern war... you will die like a dog for no good reason. Ernest Hemingway. War is many
things. It may be many different things depending on each individual. Many soldiers get trained so
their mentality is to characterize their opponents as less than human, so their lives lose all worth.
Some soldiers however, are not prepared for this, even though they have been trained. One thing is
training for it, another thing is actually killing a humanbeing. As they killmore people, it becomes
normalized for them. All they have seen changes their mind, while all of their dreams get swept
aside by bloody hands of the hypnotized while they carry the cross of homicide. But why kill
other strangers? What s in it for the soldiers? War feeds the rich while it buries the poor. Rich
people are power hungry, selling soldiers in human grocery store, using them as their little puppets
who obey their master, making them go around killing each other in order to determine who is
right, but in the end, war determines who is left. The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien shows how
soldiers who commit violence become traumatized and how that changes over time.
At the beginning of the story the narrator, Tim, gets affected by committing an act of violence
when he was in the Vietnam War, killing an enemy Vietnamese soldier. Many thoughts began
flowing in his head, all the time thinking about the man he killed. He had been born, maybe, in

Financial Instruments Other Than Temporary Impairment 1. For the following investments,
determine if OTT should record an other than temporary impairment as of December 31, 20X1, and
if so, for what amount:
Happy New Year amp; Co.
* Since the fair value of investment is less than its cost, the Company should proceed to step 2 for
identifying and accounting for impairment. However, there is no indication that OTT does not
expect the fair value of the security to fully recover before the expected time of sale. The Company
actually does not believe the decline in price to be permanent. In addition, it does not intend to sell

* It should be the entire difference between the investment s cost and its fair value at the balance
sheet date of the reporting period for which the assessment is made. So, the recorded amount is
(100 72) * 50 = $1,400.
(FASB 320 10 35 34)
3. Assume the same facts as in 2 above, but that OTT has not yet determined whether an impairment
exists or the amount of any possible impairment. For March Madness Incorporated, would OTT still
conclude that the investment is other than temporarily impaired, and would the impairment charge
as of December 31, 20X1, be different if the stock price at issuance of the financial statements (i.e.,
as of January 31, 20X2) was $95 and not $75?
* Unless it is clear that the impairment is deemed other than temporary, we cannot conclude that the
investment is other than temporarily impaired. For the second part of the question, the charge will
not be different because it depends on the fair value at the balance sheet date, not the issuance date.
(FASB 320 10 35 33 and 34)
4. For Tohoku Toys, determine if OTT should record an other than temporary impairment as of
December 31, 20X1.
* OTT does not believe that the restructuring will ultimately be successful. So, an other than
temporary impairment should be considered to have occurred if the Company intends to sell them
or not.

Death Comes For The Archbishop Analysis
Death Comes for the Archbishop Reflection Paper
During the reading of unit three s Death comes for the Archbishop, God is easily shown through
the reading in book 5, primarily shown through Bishop Latour and Padre Martinez during their

conversation on celibacy became somewhat heated, but a learning experience for Bishop Latour.
Bishop Latour was able to understand much more about Padre Martinez by putting himself him
Padre Martinez s shoes during the conversation. He lowered his believes and standards, showing
humility, in a graceful way to see what was trying to be communicated to him. Through this, he

The Effect of pH and Temperature on the Efficiency of Catalase
Abstract: In order to determine how pH and temperature affect the liver enzyme catalase, an
experiment was conducted. Catalase breaks apart hydrogen peroxide producing water and oxygen.
Using an O2 sensor to measure how much additional oxygen is added into a sealed Nalgene bottle,
we could determine the enzymes effectiveness. Three variations of temperature were tested: cold,
hot and room temperature. This was done by taking test tubes with the three different samples and
placing them in a Nalgene Bottle. It was determined that the enzyme is most effective when at
room temperature although still functions when it is chilled. The heated sample was drastically
less effective. The pH was tested by adding acid (HCl), base () and neutral (water) to the enzyme.
When the enzyme samples were tested using the hydrogen peroxide and O2 sensor test it was
determined that any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its function is the speed up the decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide within cells. This is an
important function within living animals because it becomes a poisonous substance. Catalase
breaks apart hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen through enzyme substrate complexes. (Tully)
The shape of catalase is complex with various alpha helices and beta sheets. (Corsini) This shape is
very important to its function and variation in temperature and pH can denature the enzyme.
Hypothesis:
Part I: Testing the Effect of Heat If the enzyme temperature is decreased then it will not decompose
hydrogen peroxide because it normally functions at a higher body temperature.
Part II: Testing the Effect of pH If the enzyme pH is increased than it will not decompose because it
will be much more acidic than the more neutral environment it functions in.

Miller Frederick-Personal Narrative
It was a fine, summer, Saturday when everything changed for a young teenager named Miller
Frederick. School had already started for Miller and he was at a new school. That summer, his
family had moved from Pensacola, Florida to Dewitt, Michigan so Miller didn t have many
friends. He lived in a very rural area so he didn t have many neighbors he could hang out with.
Miller had just gotten back from his first day at his new school and he became friends with
another new kid from Germany. His name was Reginald Kleinhans. Surprisingly enough, they had
a lot in common. They both loved basketball, horror movies, and writing. A week went by and
Miller invited Reginald over to his house for the night. It was a stormy night and their power had

FROM MY SOLITUDE. NOW I WILL MAKE YOU ONE OF US! As the monster was saying
this, Miller s mom was transforming into a creature that looked vaguely like the first one and
said WE ARE THE TALONS AND WE ARE HERE FOR TALON SUPREMACY! JOIN US
NOW FOR YOU HAVE AWAKENED THE OVERLORD! The talons started releasing this black
and purple swirling smoke from their bodies that swallowed Miller. There was nothing that Miller
could do except struggle. Little did he know at this point, but he was the last human on the face of
the earth. The Talons then ruled the world by taking out all of humanity. The

The Costs And Benefits Of The Industrial Revolution
The Costs and Benefits of The Industrial Revolution
Numerous advancements in today s technologies are in lieu of the Industrial Revolution and its
major industrialization period in the 1800 s. However, with these advancements came several
negative and long term costs that include poverty, extreme human labor and pollution. Each cost
came with substantial, positive attributes such as a freedom of expression and a change in
mindsets, laborer s rights and technological advancements. Every benefit and cost of the Industrial
Revolution has affected modern day life significantly. The Industrial Revolution was a series of
beneficial progressions that were worth the costs created by mankind in the time of the Revolution.

This is evident since people who were considered part of the poverty status were trying find
ways to rise from that position by changing their mindsets and expressing their new ideas. When
people allowed themselves to do so, they were able to think with a creative and free passion that
allowed them to invent or form new ideologies, philosophies, and inventions. This would allow
either the inventor or their invention to gain popularity. With popularity, it is easy for people to
rise from their lower status to either middle, or even higher, class with their newly found fame.
The invention of a new, adored idea was seen as the easiest way to escape the tortures of poverty,
since working hard would barely ever help anybody of the lower class status. According to the
website, Biography.com, the story of Andrew Carnegie can prove the importance of freedom of
expression and change in mindsets. Andrew Carnegie was one of the most successful self made,
business men in the 1900 s that had owned Carnegie Steel Corporation. However, Carnegie was
not always a rich and successful man. As a young boy, Carnegie grew up in a poor family and
was deprived a proper education. At the age of 13, Carnegie and his family had moved to the
United States. Once there, he had gone through several different types of jobs until he become a
worker on the Pennsylvania Rail road. As a worker on the Railroad, he noticed the importance of
the steel being used. He thought of making a business centered around making steel. Once he put
his idea into action, he had become extremely wealthy and popular (Biography.com Editors, http:/

The Reasons For The European Age Of Exploration
The European Age of Exploration, a period from the early 15th century continuing into the 17th
century, brought about expansion, technology, and nation building with explorer ships traveling
the seas in a search for a new trading routes and new land. There was a multitude of motivations
for the European nations want to fund explorers who desired to take on the challenges of
exploration. Though the motives for exploration were different, in many ways they were the same.
The rulers and leaders of the European nations had much the same main motivations driving the
push for exploration. The driving motivations of European exploration were the acquiring of
wealth, the want for glory, the search for new and ease of trade routes, the need of natural
resources, and the spreading of religion.
Competition between the Portuguese and the Spanish motivated both nations to seek colonization
of the New World quickly and aggressively. Prince Henry the Navigator spearheaded Portugals
exploration of Africa and the Atlantic in the 1400s [Saylor]. Portuguese sailors successfully
navigated an eastward route to West Africa, where they established a trading foothold. Portugal
then spread its empire down the western coast of Africa to the Congo, along the western coast of
India, and eventually to Brazil and the Atlantic islands. While the Portuguese did not rule over a
large mass of multiple colonies, their strategic holdings of islands and coastal ports gave them
almost unrivaled control of

Building Positive Student Teacher Relationships
Teachers are expected to create meaningful and engaging instruction aligned with the Common
Core State Standards, while also creating a classroom management plan that enhances student
achievement. Jones and Jones (2013) quote Woolfolk and Weinstein (2006) in their book,
Comprehensive Classroom Management, stating that What students want are teachers who
establish caring relationships, set limits and create a safe environment ... and make learningfun
(2013, p. 59). I strive to achieve this in my classroom each day as I greet students at the door,
shaking their hand and making small talk with them, establish fair and consistent rules and
procedures, and by building positive student teacher relationships while making learning fun
through the use of hands on activities, role playing, and creative constructions. The first step in
classroom management is to create an environment where students feel cared for and valued. To do
accomplish this, teachers need to build positive student teacher relationships. Marazano (2003)
reports in his book, Classroom Management That Works, which is cited in the Jones and Jones
(2013) book, that Positive teacher student relationships were the foundation of effective classroom
management (p.56). I am committed to creating a safe learning environment that is organized,
structured and conducive to student learning. While influencing a classroom of community
learners, I strive to also build positive teacher student relationship with all of my

The Major Development Of The Persian Empire
The Persian Empire originated as a result of the great king known as Cyrus who united the
Mediterranean and Asia Minor into one United Kingdom. Many of Cyrus qualities as a leader led
to the Persians unspoken success in expanding their civilization into the largest and most powerful
empire the world had ever seen. His campaign inspired the Persians to develop their nation by
making expeditions through Media, Babylonia, Lydia, and Egypt. These four provinces had a
major affect on Cyrus vision of creating an unstoppable empire. Therefore this opened a lot of
possibilities for Cyrus and his army as they planned to conquer these regions of Asia Minor.
There were many reasons as to why Cyrus was so successful and the main reason was his ability
to be so humble and welcoming to his enemies. Through his strength in military command,
imperial administration, and respect for his people he forged an Empire that became one of the
strongest powers in Asia Minor. Media was one of the four provinces that were crucial for the
major development of the Persian Empire. Cyrus believed that with the unification of the four
major provinces into a satrapy that he could create a strong standing civilization. Cyrus was
known for his behavior and ability to inspire and lead as a strong military commander as
described by Cook when he says, at the age of ten his fearless behavior brought him to the notice of
Astyages, who recognized him as his own grandson (Cook, 25). This demonstrated that

Themes In Children Of Men
Through Their Eyes AS91480 Children of Men
The film The Children of Men, directed by Alfonso CuarГіn, depicts a dystopian future in which no
births have occurred for eighteen years. One of the key themes within the film is that of hope,
which has been implemented throughout the film via visual and verbal techniques. These
techniques, which involve narration, costume, acting, music and dialogue, are used to emphasis
the change of hopelessness into hope. Both of these ideas are seen in the extreme within two
scenes within the film, the scene of hopelessness being the opening scene which is set within a
coffee shop. And the scene which is set around the idea of hope is one in which a ceasefire breaks
out due to the presence of a child.
The opening scene of the film utilises multiple aspects in order to display the hopeless that looms
over the dystopian world that the audience is presented with. The film uses a mix of both visual
imagery to show this along with verbal features in order to convey this to the audience.
The first aspect used in the film pre any visual imagery was the use of narration in the form of a
news presenter. This news broadcast is used to show the audience the setting of the film, this is
done through the use of quotes such as Day one thousand of the siege of Seattle. and British borders
will remain closed. The deportation of illegal immigrants will continue. these illuminate that the

Essay about Henry James The Turn of the Screw
Henry James The Turn of the Screw
Peter G. Beidler informs us that there have been hundreds of analyses of Henry James spine
tingling novella, The Turn of the Screw (189). Norman Macleod suggests that James himself seems
to be an author intent on establishing a text that cannot be interpreted in a definite way (Qtd in
Beidler 198). Yet, the vast majority of analyses of The Turn of the Screwseem to revolve around
two sub themes: the reality of the ghosts and the death of Miles both of which are used to answer
the question of the governess s mental stability: is she a hero or a deranged lunatic? As Beidler
points out, It is an amazingly fine creepy, scary, soul shuddering ghoststory or, alternatively, it is an

In other words, knowing that the events of The Turn of the Screw are given us from the perspective
of human memory, which is fallible, is as important as the events unfolding within the story itself.
This paper will argue that what we are told is from the perspective of the governess s memory;
subsequently, the events and information we are given become fallible, and suspect; therefore, the
sanity and subsequent culpability of the governess cannot be proven from the text.
Note how Douglas introduces the manuscript from the governess: It is in old faded ink and in
the most beautiful hand (James 24, italics added). No doubt, the penmanship of the governess
was once vivid and clear; but, age has a natural tendency to cause that which is vivid to fade and
become illegible. Referring first to his knowing the governess and second to the experience itself,
Douglas tells us, It was long ago, and this episode was long before (James 24). The narrator in the
prologue declares, Let me say here distinctly, to have done with it, that this narrative, from an exact
transcript of my own made much later, is what I shall presently give (James 26). From these two
statements, We see at least two people involved with the manuscript itself: the governess and the
narrator of the prologue. We also see that a significant, though undisclosed and undetermined, period
of time has passed since the original occurance of the events portrayed in the narrative. It is a

The Safest Sprint Starting Position For American Football...
In What is the Safest Sprint Starting Position for American Football Players? a research article
from Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, authors Bruno Bonnechere, Benoit Beyer, Marcel
Rooze, and Jan Serge Van Sint, argue that out of the three sprint start positions in football (2 , 3 ,
and 4 point), the 2 point stance is the least dangerous. To prove this, a study was conducted on
these positions and compared each to the safety levels in relation to American football. The results
justify that the 2 point stance is safer than the 3 point or 4 point positions. Bonnechere et al.
supports their claims by conducting a biomechanical analysis on twenty five males, all young
and fit, and recording measurements in different areas (Bonnechere et al., 2014). However, the
study exemplified field of view (FOV) and kinetic energy, and their relation to sprint starting
positions and safety. Field of view is [a] ratio between the height of the head and Verticality [,]
(Bonnechere et al., 2014). An increase in FOV will lower the injury risk, because players are more
alert of their environment. Ergo, they can avoid injury. According to the averages of each stance
and the categories, initial position and motion, [t]he FOV is increased when adopting a 2 point
starting position because the trunk is more vertical, (Bonnechere et al., 2014). Simply, when the
angle between the body s trunk and head is approximately straight, the FOV is high.
Besides field of view, the study analyzed

Is Homework Good Or Bad
Some experts think that the homework problem is deeply woven into the very fabric of our system
of educating children (Ponte), a system that does not foster a love of learning, but turns learning
into a competition between students. In modern education, this is a result of a massive push
towards better test grades and higher standardized testscores. In an effort to relieve some of the
pressures this creates at school, educators extend the school day by assigning homework. It is a
common belief among educators that homework helps create a student with a disciplined mind that
can learn easier (Marzano and Pickering). However, according to Alfie Kohn, In an attempt to create
more learning by doing homework, students may actually be learning less than they are capable of
(qtd. in Ponte). The assignment of homework in education is not beneficial since it does not
increase scores, not all kids have adequate support, and students need time to learn outside of
academics.
Experts have conducted substantial research on homework, trying to determine its benefits on
scores and long term achievement. On one hand, advocates for homework, such as Robert Marzano
and Debra Pickering, say that assigning appropriate homework raises test scores of average
students by up to 23 percent compared to average students that were not assigned homework.
Although this may be true, even they admit that inappropriate homework is of little to no benefit
(Marzano and Pickering). But what is appropriate

Building Blocks
In my classroom, I plan to have pencils and paper in every center so that the children will have the
opportunity to write at all times. With the writing and art centers, the children will be able to create
works of art such as stories, pictures, writing their names, and other works of art that they would
like. In the writingand art centers, the possibilities are endless as to what the children can create
and they are able to use their imagination, fine motor skills, all while working on communicating
their thoughts and ideas onto paper. The reason I chose building blocks/construction center for my
classroom is because the children get to have a hands on experience to learn through. Building
blocks help with the cognitive development in preschoolers, and they can also use their own
imaginations to create a masterpiece. With blocks, children are also able to learn about the

Life Is Made Up Of Choices
Every day people all over the world share a several universal experiences, and the most common
one of these is choices. Life is made up of choices. I believe life is just a series of decisions we
make, and depending on our choice, must live with the result of that decision. The choices usually
consist of a multitude of possibilities and, whether real or imagined, we must recognize that in
some way the decision will change our life forever. Therein lies the rub. Because there are so many
factors involved with our decision making and with its unknown result, many of us hesitate to even
make a choice, thinking it would be safer and that we d be better off where we are instead of
delving into the unknown. Just think of how many events in... Show more content on

But with these destiny points firmly implanted in our soul makeup, we also have free will and can
choose how we will live through the situation at hand. For instance, before making a knee jerk

person is behaving a certain way, and you then may choose to react to the situation in a healthier,
constructive way and demonstrate some compassionate.
Market Economy Analysis:

3.1Shareholder Activism.
Shareholder activism is a concept of an investors ability to influence management of a company that
he or she may hold an investment in, with the benefit of this activity been to deter poor governance
that may have a long term effect to the profitability of a companies shareholders.
3.1.1 Overview
Since the mid 1990s institutional investors make up approximately 60% of ordinary shares in the
UK stock market. This is a prime indicator of how the number of shares in company is now split
over a much smaller number of shareholders, which hold a much greater number of shares.
This is an important observation, as the ratio of ownership in terms of shareholders in a company
effects how shareholder activism can alter the management and development of a corporation.
The result of a smaller number of share holders, with greater amount of shares strengthens the
effects of shareholder activism, as with a smaller number of shareholders it is easier to get a
coherent approach to developing/influencing mechanisms in which to improve the value of shares
held by a shareholder in the company.

Essay about Arthurian Legends Effects on English Society
What role did the great King Arthur play in the way English Literature is perceived? Did King
Arthur honestly exist? Whether King Arthur existed or not is doubtful. However if King Arthur
did exist, then he would have lived sometime between 400 AD and 600 AD, a time of turmoil in
Britain following the Roman withdrawl. And a time when written literature did not exist, therefore
events during this period are only known about from folklore passed down several generations
before being written down, or from modern archeology giving insights from excavations of sites. If
there was ever a true King Arthurin history, he would probably be Romano British warleader,
probably named Artorius, which is a Roman name for Arthur. Though the Roman... Show more

The Arthurian Legends were an effect of the Romantic Era and resulted in abstract thinking, as well
as the arts including music, painting, poetry, and writing. The birth of the Arthurian Legends came
from Celtic mythology and medieval romance, while the existence of magic confirms the
conception of artistic intellect. Whether or not King Arthur truly existed, his influence dramatically
changed the English society and English Literature to its current form (Arthurian Legends Vol. 1).
The Arthurian Legend is seen to be extremely influential in benefitting the English people during
the Romantic Era. Even if King Arthur is a fictional character of myth and legend in England, his
childhood, countless glories and achievements as the king of Camelot, and the final down fall of
his strong empire validated his importance to English literature. Proof of King Arthur s existence
would possibly solidify the impact he had on the English culture (Arthurian Legends Vol. 1). The
early childhood of King Arthur seems to be the foundation of the epic journey of his life. Even
though his achievements as a child were brief, they were extremely important to King Arthur s
outlook on life, as well as character. As an optimistic squire, King Arthur had hopes of one day
overcoming his social standing. He received his wish when he unknowingly pulled the magical
sword out of the stone.

Phillip II of Macedon Essay
Phillip II of Macedon
The year was 359 BC. Greece, though weary from constant internal struggling still had supreme
power over the Hellenistic world. Persia, though it had suffered large setback in the Persian
Wars more then a century before was still a menacing force. The Barbarian State of Macedon
was led by warrior kings who aspired to be Greek, yet ruled over a feudal society that was as
multicultural as any of its time. Good morning Miss Boeston and class. Today s seminar will

greatness of the Macedonian Empire in the Fourth Century BC by examining several issues

He became well integrated into the politics and military of Greece, learning Greek political tactics
and military strategy. Philip, in effect, had learned to be a Greek general. He had also seen how
weak Greece was becoming with its painstakingly slow democratic system and the general
disunity that was becoming predominant after many years of internal quarreling. Also, his time
in Thebes gave him a greater understanding of the geography of Greece. He learned the
strongholds, and the weak cities of Greek society, and this would prove priceless in later
expeditions. When his brother died, he left his infant son, Amyntas as the heir to the throne. Philip
was, therefore, made regent, and had control of Macedon. He succeeded to the throne in 359 BC
in the traditional Macedonian custom a round of family assassinations. Macedon, at the time of
Philip s ascension to the throne, was not a very highly regarded northern state whose power
depended upon a warrior aristocracy. The kingship rested more on personal ascendancy then
institutions. Philip disposed of the young heir and immediately began implementing his plans to
unite Macedon, and control the Greek world. One of Philip s first and most notable achievements
was the creation of the National Army. He had learned the military tactics used in the Greek army
and structured his army on the model of the Theban phalanx. However, Philip only based his army
on the Greek model. He made sure that the Macedonian

It did not take long for the dead bodies to be discovered. Shortly after the clock struck midnight on

go on to claim that Simpson had broken the glass, thus cutting himself when he heard about Nicole

Commercials And Target Buyers Based On Gender
For some people its the catchy jingle that catches their attention. For others it may be the famous
celebrity that appears on their screen. Some people are even drawn in by the corny catch phrases
and over dramatic acting. No matter the case, companies tend to spend billions of dollars in
advertising, pursuing customers to buy their must have products, and spending whatever money
necessary to get their messages across to those watching. Throughout the years, marketing
executives have realized that they must refine their commercials and target buyers based on gender.
Advertisements on television have exposed images which are stereotypical representations and

The viewer does not know where these women are running towards but soon more and more women
appear on the screen; some running in the jungle, some swimming through the ocean, and others
climbing a mountain. One might address that through all this activity, these perfectly thin women
are still wearing basically nothing on their body and seem to be competing to get somewhere for
they are pushing and shoving one another. Then out of no where, there is one average looking,
twenty something, man just standing in the middle of the beach, with a look of pure joy, while
millions of women are clawing their way to him. This man is simply putting on Axe deodorant
and the words Spray More, Get More. The Axe Effect comes up on the screen right before the
commercial ends. The ad portrays how the use of this deodorant will make any man irresistible to
every woman and to many boys watching the commercial, they probably wouldn t complain if this
situation happened to them. Dove however took a different approach in selling their Dove

Atheism, Nihilism, And Nihilism
I believe atheism, and nihilism do have certain things in common, but Atheism does not necessarily
entail nihilism. There is more than one type of nihilism found in society, and even though Nihilism
may entail Atheism. but they are both different. Looking closer at the definition of Nihilism and
Atheism I found the main difference in definition between the two which will later be explained in
detail. There are many types of beliefs that could could be consider Nihilism, but only two that
express the true meaning to the word; Moral Nihilism and Metaphysical Nihilism, these believes
could get confused to being Atheism, that s why knowing the true meaning of Moral Nihilism,
Metaphysical Nihilism and Atheism will give us a better representation of what they are and how
they where they differ from each other. To begin to understand the difference between Atheism and
Nihilism I had first to understand what each meant and the views each of them have.
At first Nihilism and Atheism may seem like they mean the same thing. Looking deeper into the
definition of each of the words we will find that they are not. Atheism is the denial ( Smart, J. J.
C. ) in God(s). Furthermore, it could be said that Atheism is not a belief system, it doesn t
disbelieve the existence of Gods, it denies that there is a God. Older dictionaries have defined
Atheism as a belief (OED) that there is no God. Disbelieving in something and denying something
are two different things. Disbelieving in

Ancient Egyptian Religion
Background of religion
Bordered by deserts, Egypt s Nile River valley was very isolated from other civilizations due to the
deserts surrounding them. This isolation continued for thousands of years. As a result, Egyptian
religion and culture remained almost untouched by the beliefs the other early civilizations at the
time. This religion consisted of thousands of gods and goddesses. Around these deities arose a rich
mythology formed that helped to explain the world to the early Egyptians.
Religion was organized into groups known as religious cults. These groups worshiped specific
gods who played a central role in their society.
Roll of Pharaohs in Religion
The king, or pharaoh, was a very important model in the ancient Egyptian religion. The ancient
Egyptians believed that the king was a divine link between humans and the gods. Since pharaohs
were considered to have a special relationship with the deities they had many responsibilities.
These responsibilities included asking the gods and goddesses to protect their land and to also
keep it prosperous. They were also responsible for supporting and organizing religious cults and for
building and maintaining temples dedicated to the gods.
Pharoh s believed that through this link the gods and goddesses kept order. The Pharaoh in some
ways was more important than any individual god. The ruler s official names and titles reflected
his special relationship to the deities, particularly to the sun god Ra and the sky god Horus. Some

The Course Of True Love Never Did Run Smooth Essay
One would argue for the quote when Lysander says, The course of true love never did run
smooth. This can be argued for with the large abundance of examples that were revealed
throughout the play, like when Lysander and Hermia s flame of love was trying to be extinguished
by Egeus, Hermias father. Egeus desires for Hermia to wed Demetrius, but another aimlessly chases
Demetrius with the results ending in scorn, that is Helena. This overly complicated lovestory led
them to the magical forest where there already be two lovers whom love each other, though, they
constantly feud, the lovers are Oberon and Titania. In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Lysander
says, The course of true love never did run smooth, and this is true because Lysander and Hermia
are not allowed to love, Helena aimlessly chases Demetrius with no results, and though Titania and
Oberon are in love, they constantly feud.
Some may say that true love is rare and if it is, how out of the ordinary that Hermia and Lysander
share true love, though, not without a little distress. Hermia and Lysander ... Show more content on

Comparing America And France s Economic And Political...
PREFACE
Anyu Wang
In this paper I am going to concentrate on comparing and contrasting how America and France s
economic and political policies choices combined with their cultural and historic backgrounds
helped their current place on the word stage. It is undoubted that the United States and France are
two of the strongest and most competitive countries in the world. Although they have almost the
same economic system and same concept, they still have very different current situations which are
closely bound up with their historic backgrounds and political choices. Through this paper I am
going to discuss this topic through several sections.

To discuss its historic background I will concentrate on the Bretton Woods System. Bretton Woods
System is an international currency system started form 1944 July at the end of the Second World
War. This system require each country to obey the rule that they tied its currency to gold in order to
keep the exchange rate stable and prevent the currencies from devaluation. The establishment of this
system ensure the resume and development of capitalist world economy especially America.
Although this system ultimately disintegrated in 1973, it still make significant contributions to
America s irreplaceable role today.
France
The French Republic is a sovereign state comprising territory in western Europe and several
overseas regions and territories. As a member of G7 France ranked as the world s seventh largest
economy. It also has the mixed economy which combines private enterprise and government
intervention. France s economics are unstable, but it is still very competitive in the world. The
reason why its economics is denounced is because its high unemployment rate and its extremely
unstable CPI.
To discuss the development of France s economy I will focus on the Marshall Plan. Marshall Plan,
as an approach of the United States to control the Europe and oppose the Soviet Union, also helped
the Europe with their bad economics. After the second world war, France tried to use government
intervention by Jean Monnet to recover its economics. In fact,

The History Of Surrogacy As A Form Of Labor
In her book Wombs in Labor Pande states bodies, particularly marginalized bodies are not new to
the role in this surrogacy as a form of labor. As the marginalized and poor people have always

woman who perform body work, largely without pay. Work colonists have always labeled
reproductive. Pande says, according to sociologist Milliann Kang, over the past few decades, we
have witnessed what Kang, calls bringing the body back. (pg105). The lens of bodily labor,
however, cannot fully capture the corporality of surrogacy, as paid labor. Surrogacy like salon

From her interviews, Martin distils the central image is held by the women in the bodies: Yourself
is separate from your body. Menstruation, menopause, labor, and birthing are states you go through
or things that happen to you (not actions you do). They are the contractions, the hot flashes ; they
come on ; women get them. (pg)
Martin finds this fragmentation in childbirth procedures such as Cesareans and epidurals which
leave women feeling alienated and sectioned off from their bodies and their babies. (reference
Wombs in Labor this ideology may be a reason some women are be able to fracture themselves
off as surrogates and easily give into the process of gestational surrogacy and quickly give the baby
to the egg and sperm donating parents).
Martin stresses the compelling need for new key metaphors, new core symbols of birth. Images,
whether one sees woman as a passive channel for life energy or an active participant riding that
energy, seeking to reintegrate the whole person from the jigsaw of parts created by modern
scientific medicine (p. 159).
While viewing the powerful images of women giving birth at Dr. Michael Odents former clinic in
Pithiviers, Martin expresses that what she saw (at the cost of medical text book images which Dr.
Odent, and Scientists describe as animal like) is actually woman giving birth and

can increase the risk of heart failure, heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. For that reasons I
would like that you understand what the reason of your problem is. When the heart beats too hard
and fast, the levels of blood pressure increase. In normal conditions our body has a complex
system of regulation that allows the levels of pressure back to the normal ranks. This system which
is known as negative feedback is responsible for achieving balance in our bodies even if external
or internal changes occur. When any internal or external factor makes the blood pressure rise, we
have specialized cells located in the walls of some blood vessels that are able to detect the
problem and send nerve impulses to the brain which sends nerves impulses to the heart and blood
vessel that receive the information. As a result, the heart rate decrease, the blood vessels dilate,
and the blood pressure goes down. Finally, the body goes back to the balance condition that is

  • 2. Analysis Of The Joy Of Secrecy I The Joy of Secrecy Dear reader, I ask you to accompany me on a journey through the mind of a great creator. Not the Great Creator, mind you, but only one, and that one is myself. Many would consider me to be a rash man, one of immense skill but little actual talent, one who believes more intensely than rational thought may permit. And in that sense, they consider me to be a dreamer. But what a perfect profession I have found! It is the most acceptable profession for a dreamer to have, in my honest opinion, for what other type of work allows one to make his dreams a reality? Truly, animation is the one true profession for dreamers, the most accepting line of work for such strong and skilled personalities. I, myself, find that life is merely a composition of brush strokes and feathered lines sketched by a hand careless in its execution. A hand that may erect and raze as it wishes, or, in such cases as my own, as it is commanded by an even higher power than that which wills life from vacuous space. Among my company my associates, if you will, or if you will not, my coworkers I alone dare to dream of the unreality of life, dare to reject the hand that abides by no mortal law or rule of happiness. My lines do more than animate ink and paper in a sort of strange necromancy. From my own hand I bestow life upon flat bodies, make them twist and turn and sing the body electric . I am a special sort of man, a unique form of animator, one who dreams more than most, often more than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A League Of Their Own Narrative Analysis This section employs narrative analysis to the story A League of Their Own in order to highlight the moral of the film that women have a choice over their future and do not have to be stay at home mothers. Once again, a story needs a plot with a beginning, middle, and end (Sellnow, 2014, p. 60). Dottie and Kit s story begins in the small farm town where they work at the dairy and play ball for fun. During a game, a recruiter takes notice of Dottie, then from there, Dottie and Kit s baseballcareer takes off. Their upward progression proves that anything is possible. Tensions run high between sisters Dottie and Kit. Kit hates how good Dottie is at baseball and does not believe that Dottie wants to even be on the team. All the while, Dottie does not understand Kit s frustration. Dottie tells Mr. Lowenstein she is leaving if she is not put on another team. Instead, Kit gets put on another team. The climax of the story is reached, Dottie and Kit have a critical conversation where they share their true feelings with one another. It is at this moment that Dottie realizes she really does not know why she is still in the league. In relevance to the moral, Kit is expressive about her love for baseball, while Dottie seems to detach herself. She knows that when her husband comes back from the Army, she must go back to him because, sticking to the bandwagon, Dottie believes she should remain a housewife. Meanwhile, Kit does trust this outlook on life and she accepts the view that she can choose a different course for her life. During this confrontation, the audience is able to see the split of ideals of what one s life should reflect. They can see that Dottie is stuck in the mindset of staying home and raising children, while Kit is up to date with modern society by understanding that there is so much more to her life than what society says she should be. In examination of the text, one of the first steps is to describe the setting (Sellnow, 2014, p. 55). The story takes place in a small farm town in Oregon where no one really makes anything of themselves. Dottie and Kit leave this setting to demonstrate that taking chances and following one s dreams can make their life great. Dottie and Kit go against the norm of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Theories Of Discovering Periodic Trends Discovering Periodic Trends Introduction For years, many scientists put together several different lists of the elements based on theories about the properties of these elements but the first official periodic table was assembled by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869. Later, due to modern communication abilities, scientists modified Mendeleev s periodic table to make it more organized and easier to understand. The current version was organized in a way that scientists could easily identify trends like density, melting/boiling points, ionization energy, electronegativity, and atomic mass. Experimental Data on the properties of elements 1 through 36 were recorded and formatted on an Excel sheet. This data was converted into a series of graphs in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They learned that the density of an element increase from top to bottom and inward towards the transitions metals. They also learned that the boiling and melting point trends are similar in pattern with the density trend. They learned that the ionization energy decreases top to bottom and increases left to right. They also learned that the electronegativity trend is similar in pattern to the ionization energy trend except it does not affect any of the noble gases except for Xeon. Lastly, they learned that the atomic radius increases top to bottom and decreases left to right. This research lab is very reliable because the sources where the information was gathered was credible and they all agreed with each other. The information gained from this lab is of high significance because it is fundamental to the understanding of all chemistry. Of course there were a lot of cases in which there were occasional hiccups in the general periodic trends. These are due to the specific nature of those elements and it might be a good idea next time to highlight those outlying values in a different color on the graph and provide an explanation underneath as to why the highlighted element does not follow the rule of that specific ... • 7. Pete Turner Essay Pete Turner is a famous photographer who was best known for his colored photography. All of his images combine bold color and graphic design. Turner uses techniques such as using an intense color palette, geometry, hue and saturation, creating vanishing points, and surrealism. Turner started taking photos at a young age. He started around 14 years old and used color print and transparency material. At the start of his career he took pictures when he was drafted into the United States military service. After discharged from the military, Turner moves to New York and takes pictures that are featured in National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Timex, Esquire, and the International Museum of Photography. He took pictures to advertise AT T, Revlon,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hue and saturation are major editing techniques Turner utilizes. In the Nikon USA article Pete Turner: Master of Color Photography, Turner states, I ll work with color levels and curves, hue and saturation, but not with filters or composite effects. I don t do any photo composition partly because I don t like the look of it, and also because it s too easy and too many people are doing it. I don t like to follow the path of what s trendy. Saturated color helps to emphasize the boldness of his pictures. He also uses saturation to make parts of his picture more or less bold. Turner does this to make parts of the picture more apparent than others and this creates vanishing points. Vanishing points are apparent in all of Pete Turners photos. After saturating parts of the image and editing it with a digital palette, Turner is able to create vanishing points. Some of the vanishing points he creates a lot are not straight lines. For example, after he makes a blue and green that are next to each other bold, he then saturates the area where they meet and this makes the line blurred and appear not straight anymore. He has done this with people too. Turner makes Middleton ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He didn t care what other people thought about his art and he painted what he saw, not what others wanted him to see. • 9. Modeling Of Fractal Antenna Using Artificial Neural Network 1. Title: Modeling of fractal antenna using Artificial Neural Network. 2.Introduction: In high performance spacecraft, aircraft, missile and satellite applications, where size, weight, cost, performance, ease of installation, and aerodynamic profile are constraints, low profile antennas may be required. Presently, there are many other government and commercial applications, such as mobile radio and wireless communications that have similar specifications. To meet these requirements, micro strip antennas can be used [1,2]. The expensive growth of wireless system and booming demand for variety of new wireless application,it is important to design an antenna whose size, shape, weight and cost will be less. If it is possible that a single antenna can work on more than one frequency then it is good for us. So generally fractal antenna is used as multiband antenna. The fractal geometry concept can be used to reduce antenna size. So fractal shaped antennas are good choice to reduce antenna size and get multiband behavior. The fractal antenna can be classified on the basis of iteration as 0 iteration,1st iteration,2nd iteration etc. For fulfilling all the requirement introduced above fractal microstrip patch antennas are designed. As the number of iteration increases the time consume for solving matrix generated in simulator based on method of moment(IE3D) increases. Due to this reason we are designing an artificial neural network for microstrip fractal antenna. 2.1 Fractal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How should Canon act to successfully brand itself in this arena? According to Fournier Avery (2011) branding is shifting from differentiation to resonance. Companies can achieve greater success by embedding themselves naturally in web conversations with integrated brand messages . Then the question becomes, how can one apply this to B2B branding? He was very persuasive and he used the power of words to his competence to make people stand beside him. Hitler was not a pleasant man, but he was a very astute one; he could convince so many people that Jewish people were ominous in a couple of short sentences. Additionally, he was so strong in various ways and that is why one may think of Adolf Hitleras the most effective in using the power of words and language to influence others than any other man. Hitler was always very persuasive, and three reasons why include: the way he uses words to make the message persuasive, how he uses propaganda to convince people, and the way he uses words to create emotion. To begin, the way Hitler uses words to make the message persuasive is very imperative. Adolf Hitler always convinced people that Jews were abhorrent people, and the way he did that was scare tactics. People frequently make decisions off of fear, so he chose to tell people about the scary things that Jews would do if they took over. To add, this frightened Germans, making them rancor all Jews, which put Hitler in the right direction to becoming a powerful leader. Even though everything Hitler said about Jews was apocryphal, he made a lot of people believe that it was accurate, because of the way he convinced people and got them on his side. In moving from the natural being of animal existence to the cultural being of human existence, language plays the decisive role. There are several external issues that come not only from defining racism, but with separating racism from prejudice. According to her, prejudice is an inescapable product of the racist soceity in America. She goes on to further explain the evolution of internalized oppression, which is when members of stereotyped groups internalizes and perpetuates the stereotyped categories of his or her group. In addressing the issue of intenalized oppression, Tatum gives some responsibility for the state of racism to the very people who suffer from it. In the article, Tatum uses the definition of racism that is given by David Wellman in his book Portraits of White Racism, which says that racism is a system of advantage based on race (Tatum, 1997). This definition is something that I found to be very interesting. In many cases, racism is not defined to include the advatages that come from its existance. Instead racism is seen as a singular act, and never as a wholistic system that subtly disadvantages a specific group of people. When discussing how to end racism, no one ever gives solutions to erradicate the subleminal and covert racism that permeates every system from education to healthcare, because that would shoot down the ideal that in America is an equal and fair place for achieving one s dreams. In the last section of her article, Tatum address whether or not racism is exclusive to Whites or whether it is applicable to all people regardless of race. • 19. The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien In modern war... you will die like a dog for no good reason. Ernest Hemingway. War is many things. It may be many different things depending on each individual. Many soldiers get trained so their mentality is to characterize their opponents as less than human, so their lives lose all worth. Some soldiers however, are not prepared for this, even though they have been trained. One thing is training for it, another thing is actually killing a humanbeing. As they killmore people, it becomes normalized for them. All they have seen changes their mind, while all of their dreams get swept aside by bloody hands of the hypnotized while they carry the cross of homicide. But why kill other strangers? What s in it for the soldiers? War feeds the rich while it buries the poor. Rich people are power hungry, selling soldiers in human grocery store, using them as their little puppets who obey their master, making them go around killing each other in order to determine who is right, but in the end, war determines who is left. The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien shows how soldiers who commit violence become traumatized and how that changes over time. At the beginning of the story the narrator, Tim, gets affected by committing an act of violence when he was in the Vietnam War, killing an enemy Vietnamese soldier. Liver Enzyme Lab Andra Larade Bio 30 B7 11/20/15 Liver Enzyme Lab The Effect of pH and Temperature on the Efficiency of Catalase Abstract: In order to determine how pH and temperature affect the liver enzyme catalase, an experiment was conducted. Catalase breaks apart hydrogen peroxide producing water and oxygen. Using an O2 sensor to measure how much additional oxygen is added into a sealed Nalgene bottle, we could determine the enzymes effectiveness. Three variations of temperature were tested: cold, hot and room temperature. This was done by taking test tubes with the three different samples and placing them in a Nalgene Bottle. It was determined that the enzyme is most effective when at room temperature although still functions when it is chilled. The heated sample was drastically less effective. The pH was tested by adding acid (HCl), base () and neutral (water) to the enzyme. When the enzyme samples were tested using the hydrogen peroxide and O2 sensor test it was determined that any ... The Reasons For The European Age Of Exploration The European Age of Exploration, a period from the early 15th century continuing into the 17th century, brought about expansion, technology, and nation building with explorer ships traveling the seas in a search for a new trading routes and new land. There was a multitude of motivations for the European nations want to fund explorers who desired to take on the challenges of exploration. Though the motives for exploration were different, in many ways they were the same. The rulers and leaders of the European nations had much the same main motivations driving the push for exploration. The driving motivations of European exploration were the acquiring of wealth, the want for glory, the search for new and ease of trade routes, the need of natural resources, and the spreading of religion. Competition between the Portuguese and the Spanish motivated both nations to seek colonization of the New World quickly and aggressively. Prince Henry the Navigator spearheaded Portugals exploration of Africa and the Atlantic in the 1400s [Saylor]. Building Positive Student Teacher Relationships Teachers are expected to create meaningful and engaging instruction aligned with the Common Core State Standards, while also creating a classroom management plan that enhances student achievement. Jones and Jones (2013) quote Woolfolk and Weinstein (2006) in their book, Comprehensive Classroom Management, stating that What students want are teachers who establish caring relationships, set limits and create a safe environment ... and make learningfun (2013, p. 59). I strive to achieve this in my classroom each day as I greet students at the door, shaking their hand and making small talk with them, establish fair and consistent rules and procedures, and by building positive student teacher relationships while making learning fun through the use of hands on activities, role playing, and creative constructions. The first step in classroom management is to create an environment where students feel cared for and valued. To do accomplish this, teachers need to build positive student teacher relationships. Marazano (2003) reports in his book, Classroom Management That Works, which is cited in the Jones and Jones (2013) book, that Positive teacher student relationships were the foundation of effective classroom management (p.56). • 33. The Major Development Of The Persian Empire The Persian Empire originated as a result of the great king known as Cyrus who united the Mediterranean and Asia Minor into one United Kingdom. Many of Cyrus qualities as a leader led to the Persians unspoken success in expanding their civilization into the largest and most powerful empire the world had ever seen. His campaign inspired the Persians to develop their nation by making expeditions through Media, Babylonia, Lydia, and Egypt. These four provinces had a major affect on Cyrus vision of creating an unstoppable empire. Therefore this opened a lot of possibilities for Cyrus and his army as they planned to conquer these regions of Asia Minor. There were many reasons as to why Cyrus was so successful and the main reason was his ability to be so humble and welcoming to his enemies. Through his strength in military command, imperial administration, and respect for his people he forged an Empire that became one of the strongest powers in Asia Minor. Media was one of the four provinces that were crucial for the major development of the Persian Empire. Cyrus believed that with the unification of the four major provinces into a satrapy that he could create a strong standing civilization. Cyrus was known for his behavior and ability to inspire and lead as a strong military commander as described by Cook when he says, at the age of ten his fearless behavior brought him to the notice of Astyages, who recognized him as his own grandson (Cook, 25). Themes In Children Of Men Through Their Eyes AS91480 Children of Men The film The Children of Men, directed by Alfonso CuarГіn, depicts a dystopian future in which no births have occurred for eighteen years. One of the key themes within the film is that of hope, which has been implemented throughout the film via visual and verbal techniques. These techniques, which involve narration, costume, acting, music and dialogue, are used to emphasis the change of hopelessness into hope. Both of these ideas are seen in the extreme within two scenes within the film, the scene of hopelessness being the opening scene which is set within a coffee shop. And the scene which is set around the idea of hope is one in which a ceasefire breaks out due to the presence of a child. The opening scene of the film utilises multiple aspects in order to display the hopeless that looms over the dystopian world that the audience is presented with. The film uses a mix of both visual imagery to show this along with verbal features in order to convey this to the audience. The first aspect used in the film pre any visual imagery was the use of narration in the form of a news presenter. This news broadcast is used to show the audience the setting of the film, this is done through the use of quotes such as Day one thousand of the siege of Seattle. and British borders will remain closed. • 35. Essay about Henry James The Turn of the Screw Henry James The Turn of the Screw Peter G. Beidler informs us that there have been hundreds of analyses of Henry James spine tingling novella, The Turn of the Screw (189). Norman Macleod suggests that James himself seems to be an author intent on establishing a text that cannot be interpreted in a definite way (Qtd in Beidler 198). Yet, the vast majority of analyses of The Turn of the Screwseem to revolve around two sub themes: the reality of the ghosts and the death of Miles both of which are used to answer the question of the governess s mental stability: is she a hero or a deranged lunatic? As Beidler points out, It is an amazingly fine creepy, scary, soul shuddering ghoststory or, alternatively, it is an amazingly fine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, knowing that the events of The Turn of the Screw are given us from the perspective of human memory, which is fallible, is as important as the events unfolding within the story itself. This paper will argue that what we are told is from the perspective of the governess s memory; subsequently, the events and information we are given become fallible, and suspect; therefore, the sanity and subsequent culpability of the governess cannot be proven from the text. Note how Douglas introduces the manuscript from the governess: It is in old faded ink and in the most beautiful hand (James 24, italics added). No doubt, the penmanship of the governess was once vivid and clear; but, age has a natural tendency to cause that which is vivid to fade and become illegible. Referring first to his knowing the governess and second to the experience itself, Douglas tells us, It was long ago, and this episode was long before (James 24). The narrator in the prologue declares, Let me say here distinctly, to have done with it, that this narrative, from an exact transcript of my own made much later, is what I shall presently give (James 26). From these two statements, We see at least two people involved with the manuscript itself: the governess and the narrator of the prologue. We also see that a significant, though undisclosed and undetermined, period of time has passed since the original occurance of the events portrayed in the narrative. It is a common ... • 36. The Safest Sprint Starting Position For American Football... In What is the Safest Sprint Starting Position for American Football Players? a research article from Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, authors Bruno Bonnechere, Benoit Beyer, Marcel Rooze, and Jan Serge Van Sint, argue that out of the three sprint start positions in football (2 , 3 , and 4 point), the 2 point stance is the least dangerous. To prove this, a study was conducted on these positions and compared each to the safety levels in relation to American football. The results justify that the 2 point stance is safer than the 3 point or 4 point positions. Bonnechere et al. supports their claims by conducting a biomechanical analysis on twenty five males, all young and fit, and recording measurements in different areas (Bonnechere et al., 2014). However, the study exemplified field of view (FOV) and kinetic energy, and their relation to sprint starting positions and safety. Field of view is [a] ratio between the height of the head and Verticality [,] (Bonnechere et al., 2014). An increase in FOV will lower the injury risk, because players are more alert of their environment. Ergo, they can avoid injury. According to the averages of each stance and the categories, initial position and motion, [t]he FOV is increased when adopting a 2 point starting position because the trunk is more vertical, (Bonnechere et al., 2014). Simply, when the angle between the body s trunk and head is approximately straight, the FOV is high. Besides field of view, the study analyzed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Is Homework Good Or Bad Some experts think that the homework problem is deeply woven into the very fabric of our system of educating children (Ponte), a system that does not foster a love of learning, but turns learning into a competition between students. In modern education, this is a result of a massive push towards better test grades and higher standardized testscores. In an effort to relieve some of the pressures this creates at school, educators extend the school day by assigning homework. It is a common belief among educators that homework helps create a student with a disciplined mind that can learn easier (Marzano and Pickering). However, according to Alfie Kohn, In an attempt to create more learning by doing homework, students may actually be learning less than they are capable of (qtd. in Ponte). The assignment of homework in education is not beneficial since it does not increase scores, not all kids have adequate support, and students need time to learn outside of academics. Experts have conducted substantial research on homework, trying to determine its benefits on scores and long term achievement. On one hand, advocates for homework, such as Robert Marzano and Debra Pickering, say that assigning appropriate homework raises test scores of average students by up to 23 percent compared to average students that were not assigned homework. Although this may be true, even they admit that inappropriate homework is of little to no benefit (Marzano and Pickering). But what is appropriate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a prime indicator of how the number of shares in company is now split over a much smaller number of shareholders, which hold a much greater number of shares. This is an important observation, as the ratio of ownership in terms of shareholders in a company effects how shareholder activism can alter the management and development of a corporation. The result of a smaller number of share holders, with greater amount of shares strengthens the effects of shareholder activism, as with a smaller number of shareholders it is easier to get a coherent approach to developing/influencing mechanisms in which to improve the value of shares held by a shareholder in the company. 3.1.2Associated

Whether or not King Arthur truly existed, his influence dramatically changed the English society and English Literature to its current form (Arthurian Legends Vol. 1). The Arthurian Legend is seen to be extremely influential in benefitting the English people during the Romantic Era. Even if King Arthur is a fictional character of myth and legend in England, his childhood, countless glories and achievements as the king of Camelot, and the final down fall of his strong empire validated his importance to English literature. Proof of King Arthur s existence would possibly solidify the impact he had on the English culture (Arthurian Legends Vol. 1). The early childhood of King Arthur seems to be the foundation of the epic journey of his life. Also, his time in Thebes gave him a greater understanding of the geography of Greece. He learned the strongholds, and the weak cities of Greek society, and this would prove priceless in later expeditions. Macedon, at the time of Philip s ascension to the throne, was not a very highly regarded northern state whose power depended upon a warrior aristocracy. This system which is known as negative feedback is responsible for achieving balance in our bodies even if external or internal changes occur. When any internal or external factor makes the blood pressure rise, we have specialized cells located in the walls of some blood vessels that are able to detect the problem and send nerve impulses to the brain which sends nerves impulses to the heart and blood vessel that receive the information.
