A disaster is a natural or manmade event that results in widespread human loss, loss of livelihood, property, and life. Disasters can be natural, such as floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, or other geologic processes, and cause loss of life or property damage, leaving economic damage. There are four phases to disaster management: preparedness, response, recovery, and prevention. Preparedness involves planning and preparation measures to minimize the effects of a disaster.
