American Invovment in Vietnam Essay
In American History, the nineteen sixties and the nineteen seventies were extremely turbulent and
controversial times. Protest rights were being tested and occasionally suppressed, new moral and
political values began to develop, and the Vietnam War dominated the twenty year period. Vietnam
invited many young activist people to begin a huge movement of anti war protesting denouncing the
war, the government, and even the soldiers who were picked against their will to fight. Reasons for
American entry into the Vietnam War are controversial, and everyone has a different opinion on why
we got into the conflict. Multiple reasons contributed to the entry in Vietnam from support of allies
who were fighting their battles, to the fact that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason for American entry into the Vietnam War was the commitment that had formerly been
made by the French and the American s into the fight or the support of the fight in Vietnam for the
French colony. The French had been fighting for an Indochina colony after World War Two to benefit
them, but at the same time had been struggling with domestic costs and issues. American support to
the French in the form of millions of dollars to support the war failed, but officially committed to
Americans to a cause in Vietnam in the American government s eyes. In 1954, at Dienbienphu the
French military forces came into conflict with the North Vietnamese forces, called the Vietminh after
their leader Ho Chi Minh, being defeated and leaving the Communist Vietnamese the victors. The
French negotiations left a border at the 17th parallel making North Vietnam the communist half of the
country while the Southern half was the democratic portion. An election was set up to decide whether
the government was to become communist or democratic. American officials would not stand for this
agreement realizing that it would fall to the communist, so they replaced the French in South
Vietnam and began to train the South Vietnamese Army. This would soon lead us into the actual cause

Blood Drive Essay
Blood Drive
At first I didn t even care about the assembly I was sitting through. Everyone else I had talked to had
decided against participating, so I decided that I wasn t going to either. However, as I sat and listened
to the woman talk, and saw how sincere she was, I began to listen with a new interest. Then she put a
video on featuring stories of the people and families this affected. There was one in particular about a
little girl who had gotten in a car accident and would have died had she not received a blood
transfusion. Due to a blood drive held earlier that day, the little girl s life was saved. It was then that I
made my decision. I was going to donate blood.
I was still only 17, but that s the age requirement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I walked downstairs I could smell the aroma of eggs, bacon, and toast drifting up the hall. The
sound of the bacon sizzling and the dishes being moved around gave me a warm, toasty feeling that
calmed my nerves and made me relax. As I sat down at the island in the center of the kitchen, my
mom served my breakfast to me.
I sat, ate breakfast and drank orange juice. My mom reassured me that everything would be fine, but at
the same time she asked how I could do it. She was so afraid of needles it seemed like everyone had to
be. But needles never bothered me. In fact, I wasn t afraid to give blood at all.
When I got to school that morning everyone was buzzing around nervously asking each other what
time they were scheduled to donate. I had scheduled myself for 9:30am so I could miss my British
Literature class (we were watching a movie and I wasn t up to it). Everyone else I had spoken with
wasn t scheduled until later that afternoon. I would be one of the first donors.
A little impatiently I sat through both of my morning classes. Before I knew it, though, it was time to
make my way down to the gym and begin a process that would change my view on life. As I walked
through the halls down to the gym, I saw some other students who had already donated and I asked
how they felt. Okay, my friend Dirk had said. I just saw someone faint when they sat up! It

Nurse Manager Skills Inventory Summary
There is much to be said as to the differences between a great Nurse Leader and mediocre one; in
review of the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory this writer was able to assess her proficiency and lack
thereof in leadership skill set. It is this writer s sincerest wishes that by giving her most effort,
obtaining more diverse experiences, and completing assessments such as this that she becomes a more

Essay on Equality and Civil Rights
Democracy stresses the equality of all individuals and insists that all men are created equal.
Democracy does not persist on an equality of condition for all people or argue that all persons have a
right to an equal share of worldly goods. Rather, its concept of equality insists that all are entitled to
equality of opportunity and equality before the law. The democratic concept of equality holds that no
person should be held back for any such arbitrary reasons as those based on race, color, religion, or
gender. This concept of equality holds that each person must be free to develop himself or herself as
fully as he or she can or cares to and that each person should be treated as the equal of all other
persons by the law. We have come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Equality and Civil Rights is complex in nature that the 14th Amendment (Equal Protection Clause) is
the closest approach to a literal statement of equality, it declares: No State shall deny to any person
within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. The clause was originally intended to benefit
newly freed slaves. Over time, it has acquired a broader meaning. Today, it forbids states and their
local governments to draw unreasonable distinctions between classes of persons. The equal rights
amendment (ERA) was introduced in 1923. Their policy was for protection of women and based
largely on sexual stereotypes, which has been woven into the legal fabric of American life. This
protectionism has limited the freedom of women to compete with men socially and economically on
an equal footing. The movement to provide equal rights to women advanced a step with the passage of
the Equal Pay Act of 1963. That act required equal pay for men and women doing similar work. On
the other hand, to remove the restrictions of protectionism, women needed equal opportunity for
employment. They got it in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and later the legislation. The commitment
that led to affirmative action programs expanded opportunities for women, minorities, and those who
are disabled.

This existing Social Construct needs to change. Society s shared notion of their reality in believing ex
cons are no good is widely accepted and is a function of our current society and culture. Most people
only hear about the ex con that committed another crime and is back in jail. Because we are human,
there is the capability of change in all of us. (If you want it)
We could raise awareness by giving these individuals an opportunity to be reintegrated into society
through volunteering in their neighborhoods. Also, focus attention on the thousands of success stories
that are out there that illustrate just how some ex cons can acquire adaptive resources and learned to
cope with life s challenges and not return to prison.
I am taking on a personal role to raise awareness of the issue that face these individuals. Craig and I
are putting together a proposal and presentation to present to the new owner outlining a program that
will include varies ways we can help this population through teaching new adaptive behaviors,
education, substance abuse awareness, and help with attaining a job. Our hope is that these men will
acquire some personal development that involves ways to enhance their enduring characteristics that
differentiate their old selves with a new change over the rest of their life

Collaborative Resolution Styles Paper
It is almost guaranteed that conflicts will arise in a healthcare setting at one point or another. Yoder
Wise defines conflict as a disagreement in values or beliefs which causes harm or the potential for
harm within one s self or with others (Yoder Wise, 2015, p. 432)‌
. The most difficult types of conflict
to resolve are those due to differing values, opinions, and beliefs among individuals. When conflict is
identified and appropriate resolution skills applied, a positive resolution is more likely to occur.
Nursing professionals are more apt to encounter conflict due to the physical and emotional stresses
endured within daily practice. As a result, how nursing professionals respond to conflict can impact
the organizational culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Intrapersonal conflict is conflict that occurs within an individual (Yoder Wise, 2015, p. 433)‌
. When
nursing professionals are continually engaging team building into practice, this type of conflict can be
resolved more quickly and strengthen the culture within. Another type of conflict is organizational
conflict. This type of conflict occurs in healthcare when nursing professionals disagree with
institutional policies and procedures (p. 433). When collaborative resolution skills are applied to
organizational conflict a significant amount of time is needed for resolution. The most common and
most difficult type of conflict is interpersonal conflict. Yoder Wise defines interpersonal conflict as
conflict that occurs between or among individuals (p. 433). This type of conflict requires nursing
leaders to have strong conflict management skills. Strong leadership skills require the individual to
quickly identify conflict so unit dynamics and patient care do not suffer. When managing conflict, the
leader should create an environment that fosters the input from each team member. The input must be
constructively vetted by the whole group. To be successful, each member of the collaborative group
should be able to take ownership of the decision

Maurice Hunt s Analysis
Maurice Hunt s Analysis of Richard the Third in Shakespeare s King Richard III and the Problematics

Shakespeare and these histories to provide context and narrative in which Shakespeare uses this

Hunt goes into to great detail of the politics of succession and how Richard uses it to his advantage

Epic Hero Dbq
There are many different definitions of a hero. The Iliad presents two of those many definitions. In
750 B.C. Homer wrote this epic poem. This poem involves two characters known as hector and
Achilles. Even though both hector and Achilles have there own notable strengths, one is more heroic
than the other according to the traits of an epic hero, and the other is more heroic in the terms of the
modern standards of a hero. Of course both Hector and Achilles have there own notable strengths.
Achilles is best known for his combat skills in war. He is the best and strongest warrior to the Greeks,
and his skills were important in fighting against the Trojans. On the other hand, Hector is best known
for his bravery. Instead of running away and hiding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document A states that a heroic action is involving a risk to physical comfort, social stature, or quality
of life; Hector possesses this characteristic. Hector is the greatest fighter for the Troy. He risk his life
to fight for the Trojans; he doesn t care about possibly being harmed. Hector knows that he could get
hurt, but he still goes into combat. He knows he could just stay home, but he wants to risk his life
instead. One modern standard of a hero that he demonstrates is that his actions were engaged in
voluntarily (Document A). Hector volunteers to go to war against the Greeks. No one has to make him
fight; he actually wants to go. Hector knows he could just be safe and sound at home with his family,
but he chooses otherwise. To sum things up, Hector is more of a modern day hero, as oppose to
Achilles, since he possesses these modern hero

Main Theme Of Unbroken
INTRO: The story Unbroken by Laura hillenbrand is an excellent book about Louis Zamperini a
world class track star who gets drafted into the military during World War Two. During a routine flight
Louis along with his crewmates they engines fall and their plane suddenly comes crashing down into
the Pacific Sea. Only two other crewmates survive the crash and they are then stranded on a raft. They
all knew that only through sheer willpower would they survive. Just as things started to look down a
ship approaches flying a white flag with a red circle. This literary analysis will show how how Laura s
skills in writing a beautiful theme, developing characters throughout the book, describing the
importance of setting and use of author s craft. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when Louie is captured by the Japanese and taken to a POW (Prisoner of War) camp
where he among others if both physically and emotionally abused he keeps trying to survive. He
knows from firsthand experience that if he perseveres it will get better. This is proven when Louie
after experience in three different camps is ordered to hold a fifty pound beam of wood over his head
for ten minutes (Hillenbrand 295). Even though Louis was sickly, weak and skinny he managed to do
it without giving up. This once again portrays the theme to always persevere because without it Louie
would be dead.
Setting:
The setting in the book Unbroken is constantly changing all over the place. The changes that take
place in this book are both in time and in location. Many transfer the main character, Louie all over
different places in the world. Because of Louies status as a bombardier on a flight crew during World
War Two, Louis is constantly on the move from one military base to the next.

Does Equality Still Exist Today
Today we live in a world where achieving equality seems to be a highly debated topic regardless of
where you go. Since our country was founded we have progressed in the sense that we have
established laws that prohibit us from viewing women as inferior to men in the workplace and thus
forcing us to give the same opportunities to both men and women alike. So then we are left with the
question; why does this inequality still exist today? It can be best explained as there are still
individuals within our society than believe certain gender roles foster a better society. Utah
Republican and former vice chair of the Wasatch Republican Party, James Green, made it very clear
that he believes that the inequality within the workplace should remain. ... Show more content on

Our textbook also discusses the theory of Male Hegemony which describes the way in which men take
power over women in society. It goes on to describe the way in which many males will feel insecure if
placed subordinate to a women and thus constantly strive to regain power. With this is also explained
that often times women who fall victim to this mentality often begin to believe it. When women do so
they may even avoid success in their life as to not surpass the male dominance that has been
established. (Kornblum, W. Julian, J., Smith, C. D.

One of the greatest quantities of substantiation against the young fellow on trial is the one of a kind
switchblade that was utilized to murder his dad. The store owner described selling this same sort of

2. Additional, there was a concern with the old man testimony. Another issue was the declaration of
the old man. Jury No. 8 proceeds with his attack on the proof by demonstrating that it was difficult for
the old man to have been in the place he was the point at which he supposedly observed the defendant

Alternate Outcome At Fort Ticonderoga
Alternate outcome at Fort Ticonderoga
In order to come to an alternative outcome, one must first address the instructional letter sent from
General Gage to General Carleton after the battles at Lexington and Concord. The letter took far too
long to get to General Carleton. General Gage had credible human intelligence suggesting that the
colonists wanted to take Fort Ticonderoga. While one understands that one must use the chain of
command, one would think the immediacy of the letter was far more important and should have gone
directly to Fort Ticonderoga, instead of the 10 day long ride to Montreal. And even if that was not
proper protocol, General Gage could have at least sent an advisor with knowledge of surveillance
techniques to Fort Ticonderoga to aid in their post and give better forewarning of a potential attack.
Secondly, had the British force at Fort Ticonderoga had cavalry scouts assigned to it, there would not
have been much of an American Revolution. The cavalry scouts would have picked up the trail of
Colonels Allen, Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys. The Scouts could have performed
reconnaissance and then reported back to the garrison commander, putting the whole fort on guard.
Then the garrison commander could have contacted both the British sloop in Lake Champlain and the
garrison at Fort Crown Point for further aid and reinforcements, beating back the patriot attacking
force.
Thirdly, with more troops at the fort, the British could have afforded a couple

The Telegraph The idea behind the telegraph was to send electric signals across wires. This originated
in the early 1700s and France was the first country to have a rough system by 1798. Eventually
following was a system which used Morse code. Professor Samuel Morse had successfully secured
funding and in 1843 a telegraph system was produced from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. The
success of the system was seen and by 1861 the first transcontinental telegraph line was built. The
telegraph was a very simple 3 part machine. It had a battery, electromagnet, and a key to connect and

The Shocking Closing Of Blockbuster Video Stores
The Shocking Closing of Blockbuster Video Stores Katrina Evans August 25, 2015 OL500 Final
Research Paper Rough draft Dr. Shana Patrick Southern New Hampshire University Abstract
Blockbuster Video Inc. was an exciting idea introduced to America to provide affordable home
entertainment to families across the country. Unfortunately, the company has had to make some
decisions to close stores and take different routes on making profit. With the introduction of
newinnovative ways to view movies at home, Blockbuster could not keep up with the competition.
Several organizational behavior issues are prevalent in the time leading up to these decisions made by
Blockbuster leaders. This paper will address the following research questions: Was there a
correlational relationship between the leadership s decision making abilities and the events that led up
to the closing? If so, what was the impact? How did the operating business practices of Blockbuster
impact employee perception? What was the impact to the organizational culture during the period of
the closing? This paper will also provide some solutions that could have potentially helped eliminate
the need for Blockbuster to close their stores. The Shocking Closing of Blockbuster Video Stores
Blockbuster Video was a dominant entity of home rental entertainment from the mid 1980s through
the end of the 20th century. With thousands of video choices ranging from family to action,

The Bill of Rights of 1689 By Christos Stamelos The Bill of Rights of 1689 The Bills of Rights of
1689 is a legal document encompassing the basic rights and liberties of the English people. It was
compiled as the title states in December 1689 with the title An Act Declaring the Rights and Liberties
of the Subject and Settling the Succession of the Crown and constitutes a statutory statement that is
formal written enactment of a legislative authority that governs a state, city, or county. It was result of
mounting pressures to remind the King Charles I of the Rights laid out in the Magna Carta(1215)
which he clearly challenged by dissolving the parliament and governing by decree. The concept of the

referring to the resignation of the throne from James II and the assignment of it to William the Prince
of Orange and the call to all regional authorities to send their representatives to be present in the
proceedings. After that, the document defines the changing relationship between the crown and
Parliament by declaring that no monarch will ever again undermine the rights and liberties of the
people and in the next paragraph, it states that William of Orange will honor the rights of the British,
establishing a safety clause for any future claims of James II. The Bill of Rights is mainly a
fortification of old principles contained in Magna Carta and ratified parliamentary supremacy. This

and makes the world a better place in someway or form. They have all the qualities a society would

Thesis Of Chief Joseph s Speech
The thoughts and circumstances of Chief Joseph addressed in his speech involved many examples that
helped support his one main topic. This subject that Chief Joseph was attempting to entail was that
white settlers should not have done what they did to Joseph s people for their wrongdoings affected
them. The words that he proclaimed and spoke was about all the actions done against his people, as
well as, how the modest of treaties do not mean anything at all anymore and unwanted apologizes for
the people and land that he and his people lost tragically. As I was listening to every word being
spoken, I strongly agreed with his reasoning as it was true and upstanding. What the white man did to
his people and their possessions, such as land, game, or rights, was not right and acceptable to
publicity. So yes, but, nevertheless, the white man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of us individually, should support Chief Joseph s speech so people can hear their side of the story
and Chief Joseph s people could receive back from all the loss that they did not deserve. Today, nearly
all confrontations between white and Indian people today are not usually ended softly, due to the
troubled past of both cultures. The side that is most agreeable is the Indian side because they have yet
to get justice or rights for losing what they had back then. This will change all the fighting that is
going on to equality and peace for both races to enjoy. Rising up and giving back what was once their
cultural treasures will show the Indians that not all people are alike and, moreover, that personally do
want peace. All the corruption between both cultures could correct itself if all of us individually could
just recognize the importance of the Indians as together instead of treated oppositely based on what
their culture consists of and how they

Crisis In Flint
In a contemporary light, the crisis in Flint is viewed as one of the most abhorrent violations of the
right to clean water. But in our initial reactions of shock and awe, we must ask one fundamental
question: Is this crisis the beginning of a national catastrophe? To answer this question, we don t have
to look far. Last week, the Ithaca City School District shut off their water supply after the detection of
high levels of lead. In Newark, New Jersey, 17,000 children are now being tested for lead poisoning.
In Long Island, New York, dilapidated cesspools leaking nitrogen have led to a mass die off of flora
and fauna within the Long Island Sound. These incidents represent a fraction of the growing disaster
that is our nation s water infrastructure. Experts on urban water infrastructure have characterized water
mains as ticking time bombs. Their characterizations are justified for the most part many aging water
mains have pipes made from wooden planks wrapped in metal coil. From 2004 to 2009, 316
contaminants were detected in water supplied to the public. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Classifying Rocks Essay
Classifying Rocks
Rocks are classified to make it easier on people to identify them in the future. This can be done by a
numerous amount of ways. Each rock type has their own specific ways, but there are two distinct
characteristics that apply to all. These are texture and composition. These two, along with many others
helps to classify igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
Igneous rocks are classified first by texture. This is broken down mainly into grain size. First there are
intrusive, or plutonic igneous rocks. These types of rocks cool within the crust and forms large, visible
crystals. The opposite would be extrusive, or volcanic rocks. These cool at the surface rapidly, forming
small grains. A combination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depending on what the sedimentary rock is formed by, determines whether is known as clastic or
chemical. Clastic rocks are composed of particles from weathering. They are then sorted by grain size,
gravel being the largest and clay being the smallest. A few examples would be sandstones and shales.
Chemical sedimentary rocks are biochemical, and contain ions in the solution from weathering. These
are also further classified. First you have limestone, which can be either organic or inorganic. An
example would be fossiliferous or chalk. Next is dolostone, and it is formed from dolomite. Chert is
next; and can be organic or inorganic also. Flint and jasper are some examples of chert. Rock salt and
gypsum are what are known as evaporites. These form from the evaporation of saline waters in an arid
environment. Finally there is coal, which is organic and forms from buried plant remains and carbon.
There is one more type of rock that is classified the same way as the previous two.
Metamorphic rocks are pre existing rocks that are changed by heat and pressure. The pre existing rock
is called the parent rock, or protolith. Metamorphism occurs in these rocks when the minerals become
instable. There are two types of metamorphism, contact and regional. Contact is high temperature, low
pressure. It is basically a massive rock that is baked. Regional is high pressure and low temperature.

Justice In Fury
Fury is the latest movie from director David Ayer, who also directed the films: End of Watch,
Sabotage, and Street Kings. Fury is defined as a wild or violent anger, or a spirit of punishment from
Greek Mythology. After seeing this movie, I now have a slightly different interpretation. I now define
fury as the uncontrollable rage of anger from a righteous man attempting to achieve justice for the lost
and the departed. In Fury a 5 man Sherman tank unit from the United States embarks on a mission into
Germany during World War II to protect a supply line from an advancing Nazi SS unit on a collision
course with them. The M4 Sherman Tank was rushed into production in October 1941 as a response to
the fall of France in only a matter of weeks to Germany s Nazi soldiers. At this time the U.S. had
fallen behind in tank technology, as no immediate threat seemed imminent to the U.S. after World War
I. The design of the Sherman tank emphasized speed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

movie is not in the vast and beautiful landscapes of Europe; it is not in the highly visual battle scenes
and the raw presentation of war; but it is in the fact that people when faced with insurmountable odds
must band together as brothers and do the impossible. This process is typically painful, just like the

Francesco Guicciardini s The Black Death
In the later Middle Ages, European countries faced a major crisis. European prosperity and growth
was brought to a halt by a series of famines and plagues, especially the Black Death in 1346 1353. The
Black Death was one of the most disastrous disease outbreaks in human history; it reduced the
population of Europe by half (McKay 342). While the Europeans experienced the climate change
called the Little Ice Age, a series of conflicts called The Hundred Years War (waged from 1337 to
1453) further upset the European civilization. The war was costly, local government in England fell
into disarray, French peasants revolted against high taxes used to finance the war: society was in

used his ideas in their political works. The recent studies on Guicciardini further verify that, even
though Francesco Guicciardini lived during the period of Renaissance, his notions and judgements are
applicable even today in our daily lives. As noted by Phillips, For it is evident that on another level,
the maxims remained active in his mind, still useful for the Italians (Phillips 113). Guicciardini s ideas

Theme Of Blank Sonnet
A distinguished sense of hollowness, and darkness is discernable in George Elliot Clarke s poem
Blank Sonnet . This poem expresses, the author s difficult and awkward communication with a lover
through a broken relationship. word choice and imagery is imperative to the overall effect and tone of
the poem. The usage of an atypical sonnet stylization, broken sentences, forms of metaphors,
symbolism, sensory language, and alliteration form strong imagery, and a sense of disconnect. The
overall effect leaves the reader with a resonating feeling of emptiness.
The main theme within Clarke s Sonnet is his distance and inability to communicate with a lover. This
poem is written for his lover as an attempt to connect with her, although within the poem, he is
continuing to communicate poorly. The way in which he copes with this broken relationship drives the
tone of the poem.
A common theme throughout the poem is the coping mechanism used for his troubled relationship. He
does not view his alcoholism as a fault, but as a comfort and an escape. He yearns to sleep beneath a
patchwork quilt of rum . (Clarke 6) Furthermore, he wishes to drink until he is unaware that his
relationship is troubled. He wishes for the slow collapse of language / [w]ashed out by alcohol.
(Clarke 7 8) He desires to detach, and isolate himself from the situation mentally, rather than remove
himself physically. This suggests that he has no wish to recover from his alcoholism, and no desire to
leave his

Racial Barriers
United States of America is a country that has a foundation of diverse social, economic and political
factors that have been constantly changing over the last few centuries and have shaped the way in
which races and various ethnic groups relate, align, and participate in political processes (Holloway,
2013). The 19th and 20th centuries are seen as the most definitive years which the fate of people of
color and other ethnic minorities was determined. The magnitude of social issues and legislations that
were enacted during these years ranging from civil right movements, women suffrage, to voting rights
were of great significance and most of them are still binding in the current American society (Tyson,
2016). These socio economic and political manifestations in the country have also shaped the race
perceptions and some people believe it is the period in history that defined race relations to date.
The most volatile issue over the years has been the right to vote irrespective of diversities such as
color, income, race, ethnic groups, immigration status, among other factors. People of color have
always been on the receiving end of laws that prevent them from voting and exercising their
constitutional right of freely electing leaders (Schuit Rogowski, 2016). Despite such laws being
abolished over the years through federal and state legislations that aim at bringing equality, the turnout
of people of color still remains low to date. This paper aims at examining the possible

apparent characteristic about him. Tillman s selflessness become apparent when he threw away a multi

for the country is hard to find in other people. Another example that shows Tillman s selflessness was
after a football game when he was asked what his thoughts were on the game. He replied saying, I
didn t play particularly well. The team played great. This shows how Tillman really wasn t playing for
the fame, or publicity, and credited his team before himself. One last example of how selfless Tillman
was selfless was when he never took interviews with news reporters after he made the decision to join

Importance Of Mateship
Who likes having a barbecue dinner with your friends and family, having a good time? Who likes to
just chill and relax with your friends after school or on the weekends after an exhausting footy game?
Both examples are something that all Australians do frequently, as it is part of an aspect of the culture
of Australia. This aspect is mateship, something of which involves the creation of strong bonds with
people that you can rely on and form during school life. Being a mate is more than just a friend, it is a
relationship between people that have shared experiences, mutual respect and unconditional
assistance. Usually, mateships are formed by the similar hobbies that you like to do, for example
playing for your local sport team or going to social gatherings like the movies to watch that movie you
have been looking forward to. However, most mateships are formed during your time at school, as the

Organizational Theories Of Change Within Human Organizations
Introduction An Organizations ability to survive and manage change has become increasingly
important in an environment where globalization and competition are more intensifying. In the mid
20th century there has been increased attempts that apply to an organizational s theories of change
within human organizations. The first theory is concerned only with stability and equilibrium and the
control of negativity or feedback. Cao and Mchugh s (2005) system views many organizations as
interacting within the environment. The orgazational environment is set up of relationships that relate
to stakeholders or agents that factor beyond an organizations control. In dealing with a phenomena
comples, the syaste no longer sees the concept adequate.
This has led to the new theory which focuses on non equilibrium, instability and the emergence of
new structures and patterns. Systems are considered self organizing or evolving in the complexity
paradigm. Contemporary organizations are pervasive with change and interdepencies can be either
drawn between the public or private sectors where similar environmental challenges. Many of these
changes have taken place in the economic and political environment. In order to help understand the
changes the better the management process more effectively, a more comprehensive and dynamic
change of management is suggested. By intergrating systems theories, complexity, the fluid process of
organizational change and the disruptive, organizational change

As we have discussed in class, star persona is when an actor or actress have been categorized into

copying of digital goods, documents, video and audio without the legal approval of the owners
(Lixuan Zhang Wayne William 2009). Software privacy is reported to cost the film industry an
estimated $58 billion per year in the United States alone (Ma et al, 2011.). Sony is a Japanese

the management team has made various attempts at prosecuting the individuals who pirate. The
management team attempted to deter the individuals pirating, through sending legal letters threatening
action, however this only led to a short term impact. In order to work towards a long term solution, the

Therefore, Martin and Hitchcock both use the technique of irony to portray the ethics and significance
of those who abandon their moral values and beliefs. The novel A Game of Thrones, is set in a harsh
unforgiving world and many characters find themselves struggling as they are faced with hard truths.
Martin portrays the protagonist Eddard Stark to be a man of honour and respect with high ethical
values, this is shown through many other characters opinions such as Jon, Jon tells Eddard You wear
your honour like a suit of armour... when explaining the oath is a social bond that needs to be
respected and upheld. Eddard is seen to be well respected, loved and envied throughout the village by
his fellow neighbours. But Martin ironically makes Eddard s turn of events to be a moment of corrupt
actions, this occurs when Eddard hires soldiers to overtake the crown and kingdom. The novel states

The Importance Of College Education
So our education really isn t priceless?
As college costs continue to rise, more and more students are discouraged from furthering their
education and reaching their capabilities to the fullest. In today s society, a college education is
essential for a good career. Based off a Edward Jones survey, 83% of Americans say they cannot
afford the expense of a college education. Growing up in public schools, college has always been
slipped into conversations. Especially in high school, our teachers are preparing us for college.
However, they are not preparing us for our future careers or how to obtain a household income, just
simply for us to attend college. We are taught about the importance of college, but never warned about
the cost of tuition and how to pay for it. In my own personal experience I was not taught how to pay
for college but to just go, just figure it out and go. On average, an in state college is $10,000 a year.
The average american family has an income of around $55,000, however, the average family also
spends around $60,000 a year on bills and necessary items. With this being said, are our tuition rates
reasonable?
With costs being so high, some students can t afford it and just don t go, while others burry themselves
with debt and student loans which can lead to stress and the pressure of dropping out. The term
student loans has been tossed around a lot in high school but no one explains the downsides. In 2016
30% of Americans went to college. Of that 30%,

Numerical Modeling And Tropical Meteorology
My general areas of interest are numerical modeling and tropical meteorology. For example,
numerical simulation models of tropical cyclones is the problem that interest me most in atmospheric
science. Based on one or two problems in tropical meteorology or related fields, I hope to work based
on the existing models, and make unique contributions. My ultimate goal is to develop skills to
become a sophisticated researcher and teacher in the field, while pursuing a doctorate degree in
atmospheric sciences.
My interest on PDEs dates back to high school. Since typhoons frequently struck my hometown, I
developed interest in the forecast of tropical cyclones. Guided by a net pal with a master s degree in
meteorology, I started to systematically study the basics of weather prediction. However, when
reading Principles of Meteorological Analysis, I encountered PDEs describing dynamics of
atmosphere, which was incomprehensible for me then. Realizing that a solid math foundation would
be critical to further study in meteorology, I chose to study mathematics in University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA).
After finishing basic math courses, I challenged myself with a year long series of honors algebra
course, in which group theory, ring theory and Galois theory were covered. The homework sets and
take home exams in this course horned my skills of solving hard math problems. With limited clues
for each problem, I had to review related definitions and theorems carefully, and

The Educational Value Of Virtual Reality
I Have a Question! : The Educational Value of Virtual Reality Since the 1950 s, virtual reality (VR)
has been hovering on the periphery of technology without achieving accepted mainstream application
or commercial adoption. However, that is beginning to change and virtual reality has become a
popular topic within the latest technological headlines. According to TechCrunch, VR startups have
raised more than $1.46 billion in venture capital, and people believe that this is the year that VR will
finally take off. Virtual reality provides an escape from reality through a portal to an alternate reality
with a landscape that feels realistic. As VR becomes more popular, some educators and employers are
looking to incorporate VR as a primary teaching tool due to its widespread and numerous uses.
However, while virtual reality may seem like a beneficial educational tool, problems will inevitably
arise from the development and implementation of VR in education, and a middle ground will need to
be discovered.
While statistics on VR use in K 12 schools and colleges have yet to be gathered, the steady growth of
the market is reflected in the surge of companies solely dedicated to providing K 12 schools with
packaged educational curriculum, content, teacher training and technological tools to support VR
based instruction in classrooms around the world. However, this is not the first time that this concept
had existed. On one hand, it is important to keep in mind that there are

How Being Confident Helps You Overcome Poverty Essay
What it takes to be the best People are losing the will to push past the obstacles in their lives. When
things get hard, they decide to throw in the towel and call it quits. Finding that power within to survive
during what could be some of the hardest times in someone s life can be difficult. People need to see
other people continuing to push when they have nothing left to give. Who is going to be the person to
choose to survive instead of giving in? Resilience and an inner drive are key to surviving. With
resilience a survivor can push past hardships. Choosing to continue when things get hard is choosing
to not give in to the struggles one has come to. When someone is struggling from something big like
poverty, it can take motivation to get them to try ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article How Being Confident Helps you Overcome Poverty states that, If you ve failed again and
again in school, relationships, in jobs you carry a great burden as you try to pick yourself up and
perform well in education or at work (Shipler). The situation does not need to be a life changing
challenge for someone to want to get past it. Failing many times can have a negative impact on
someone and can cause someone to give up easier. Being resilient is key in facing the hardships in one
s life. In the novel Miracle in the Andes by Nando Parrado, the survivors of the plane crash have to
find resilience to survive day by day. When a group of three people from the crash leave the fuselage
Nando finds it difficult to keep going. He says, The world was showing me how tiny I was, how weak
and insignificant. And temporary. I listened to my own breathing, reminding myself that as long as I
drew breath I was alive (Parrado 195). It can be hard to keep going when it feels the world is twisting
over itself but those are the times when pushing to one s limit is even more important. A survivor feels
like they accomplished so much more when it was

Salt Marsh Ecosystems On Earth
Introduction
Salt marsh ecosystems are among the most productive ecosystems on earth and provide numerous
ecosystem services (Ghorai Sen, 2015; Charles Dukes, 2009; Drociak, 2005). These services include
biofiltration, gas regulation, carbon and nutrient retention, and physical protection of coastlines from
storm surges and coastal flooding (Drociak, 2005; Sweat, 2009; FWC, 2016). Salt marshes act as
nurseries and ensure habitat and resources for unique flora, fauna, and microbial communities (Ghorai
Sen, 2015), including commercially and recreationally important species such as horseshoe crabs, fish,
and shellfish (FWC, 2016). Salt marsh plants also help trap nutrients, pollutants, and sediments, which
improves water quality offshore (FWC, 2016).
Many of the world s salt marsh habitats have also been lost over the last several centuries to filling,
draining, and diking (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008). New England has lost an estimated
one third of its salt marshes since 1777 (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008; Bromberg and
Bertness, 2005) as a result of diking, railroads and road construction, levee building and other
purposes (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008). While the diking and impoundment of the salt
marshes created more area for development, the ecological structure, as well as the benefits and
ecological services the salt marshes provided, were eliminated in the process (Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institute, 2008; Thelen, 2009). This

Body Image By Jamie Santa Cruz
Society follows a norm that requires a general agreement between groups in order to function as a
whole. Human beings are social group animals (Lessing 1) and need each other to survive with the
intention to get along or fit in. These desires to conform influence our idea about ourselves (Lessing 1)
and people lose a sense of their inner self based on these insecurities. The false concept of ideal beauty
of body image is displayed in the media and it pressures young women and men to accept this
particular notion of beauty. The role of the media comes into play because it pressures individuals to
give in, since they appeal to our need, which is to be accepted. Although, people oppose to media
pressuring individuals to conform, it is clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Body Image Pressure Increasingly Affect Boys, Jamie Santa Cruz shows that the media harms boys
and girls in similar ways. Cruz discusses that boys who were highly concerned with their weight,
about half were worried about gaining more muscles...major difference between boys and girls when it
comes to weight concern: whereas girls typically want to be thinner, boys are as likely to feel pressure
to gain weight as to lose it (1). This displays that boys feel obligated to look a certain way like having
a 6 pack or looking physically fit due to the influence of media. Similarly, women want to lose weight
because being skinny is considered to be attractive. Cruz shows that most action figures have a
significant proportion of muscles which displays the improbable body image they set up for young
boys (3 4) because of this, boys are falling prey to a distorted image of themselves and their physical
inadequacies (3 4). It is presenting men in a way that is unnatural, like how girls and their bodies are
advertised. We assume that this is how men should appear and we judge them based on the illusions
that the media has created. Cruz displays that steroids is associated with depression, range attacks,
suicidal tendencies, and cardiomyopathies (4). He asserts that boys are pressured to look what is
considered as healthy in society. This shows how the media is harmful to boys because they can use
other alternatives, such as

Deer Season Should Be Longer
Do you think Deer season should be longer? Where the deer are overpopulated there should be a
longer season. Anyone should be able to shoot deer if they are destroying your property. The deer
population has outgrown any other animal population.
One problem about having a longer season is that if we have too many long season hunters then the
deer might go extinct. Another problem would be that the deer would bed down and not move as much
as they do now. Longer deer season will cause less people to spotlight.
If you ve been hunting for long enough, chances are pretty good that you ve found yourself in an
argument or two about the viability of a year round hunting season. For some hunters, year round
hunting is almost a possibility, whether through the hunting of a wide range of both big and small
game animals or thanks to nationwide and international hunting trips.
However, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, a yearlong hunting season would also give states an opportunity to create more appropriate
and consistent hunting regulation methods that, when employed for 12 months at a time rather than
one or two, could actually stand to help create more balanced deer populations rather than destroy the
animals and their chances of survival. This one probably goes along with the more regulation point
above, but it bears repeating due to the level of hunting related accidents and injuries that still result in
so many tragedies every year. A yearlong hunting season, as well as the extra regulation it would
bring, would force hunters to be more vigilant with following safety measures.
When you have 10 or 11 months off from hunting, it s easy to let safe practices slip to the back of your
mind. If we were all hunting all of the time, safety rules would have a better chance to take firm root
and could also be more easily

My Desire to Work in Game Development
As a child all I wanted to do was rule the world, I noticed early on in my childhood that all aspects of
computer games development especially programming and games design could help me accomplish
this. I have been playing computer games since before even the PlayStation 2 was released when my
brother got a PlayStation from a another family member. For as much as I have enjoyed, experienced a
wide range of platforms, games and retain my love for this form of entertainment. One of my favourite
games of all time is Kingdom Hearts, on the PlayStation 2 and developed by Square (later Square
Enix); it played brilliantly, was graphically superb and had a perfect soundtrack.
My resolve of wanting to develop games in the future using the variety of platforms that would be
available, in empowering new technology, I can see that computer games programme gives solid
groundwork within computer science to determine ideal. It would give the necessary skills, knowledge
to learn and evolve with and within growing industry.
Most of time spent reading books similarly comic books/manga etc. such as e.g. Charlie Higson s The
Fear, Darren Shan s The Saga of Darren Shan, Online game magazines, such as PCGamer, Gamasutra,
where I keep up to date with the latest news in the games industry, reading game reviews, learn about
different aspects of a career in game development and much more. During June 2013, I attended The
Rezzed Expo, a fair for current Game Developers and prospective students who

Ancient Mariner Consequences
Actions Have Consequences
Every character has caught themselves, or been caught, taking things or people for granted. They
become used to this great being or thing and expect things out of it. They ask and ask and take and
take and sometimes even cut off that great thing thinking they can survive without it. In The Rime of
the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, an old mariner and his crew have been blessed by an
Albatross when they begin to have a tough time out at sea, but the ancient mariner decides to take the
Albatross for granted and things begin to go downhill.
The ancient mariner and his crew were travelling northward toward the land of mist and snow (line

Characters who have brought bad karma upon themselves feel misery and expect others to take pity on
them and take care of them. Those characters do not deserve pity and care, they should have been
smart enough to realize that their actions have consequences. However, these types of characters find
themselves lucky enough to live in a world that believes in second chances. Thankfully, this world
does not give her second chances out easily, the ancient mariner had to endure seven days, seven
nights, [of seeing] that curse...in a dead man s eye...and yet [he] could not die (lines 263, 262, 264).
He went through seven days of being mentally haunted before seeing a flash of golden fire... (line
282) on a distant ship and upon seeing it felt a spring of love gush d from [his] heart, and [he] bless d
them unaware (lines 285 286). This automatic pure love he felt caused his kind saint to [take] pity on
[him] and the Albatross fell off...from [his] neck so free...and sank like lead into the sea (lines 291,
290, 291, 292). The Albatross sinking like lead gives a visual as to just how heavy guilt seems on
characters souls. From this point on, the Polar Spirit (margins around line 395) helped the weakened
marnier travel southward in good weather. The spell may have been snapped and the Polar Spirit may
have washed away the Albatross s blood

Study Group Conformity
Conformity is the way that most people do in accordance to their behavior in their society
(Conformity 1). Group Conformity is the way that human beings are affected by the behavior of others
around them. The first experiment that studied group conformity was performed by Jenness in 1932
(Conformity 4). Following this experiment many more were performed such as The Stanford County
Prison Experiment, Solomon Asch Experiment, Candid Camera Elevator Experiment, The Milgram
Experiment, and the Bystander effect (Reyes). Just like there are many different types of experiments,
there are also many different types of conformity compliance, internalisation, identification and
ingratiational (Conformity). This paper will go over some of the many experiments ... Show more

This experiment was first designed to investigate how people would conform to the roles of guard and
prisoner in a role playing exercise that simulated prison life (Mcleod 1). Zimbardo was interested in
learning about whether the brutality in the prisons was because of the behavior of the guards towards
the prisoners or if it was because of the prison environment. He beginned his experiment by placing an
ad in the newspaper calling out for males that were willing to be part of the experiment, 70 individuals
answered the ad. Every individual had to go through a background check to check for mental issues or
past drug or alcohol use. In the end only 24 students were chosen (McLeod). The prisoners were
treated just like they would be treated at a your average prison. Half of the 24 students that were
selected were prisoners and the other half were the guards. The guards had no specific direction as to
how to treat the prisoners, Guards were instructed to do whatever they thought was necessary to
maintain law and order in the prison and to command the respect of the prisoners. No physical
violence was permitted Mcleod 11). As the days went on the prison began to seem and become more
like a real life one was. The guards began to become more aggressive in order to maintain control over
the inmates. Some of the prisoners began to show early signs of depression by the third day. Although
the experiment was supposed to go on for a longer period of time, it had to be cancelled on the sixth
day. This concluded that People will readily conform to the social roles they are expected to play,
especially if the roles are as strongly stereotyped as those of the prison guards (Mcleod

  • 3. American Invovment in Vietnam Essay In American History, the nineteen sixties and the nineteen seventies were extremely turbulent and controversial times. Protest rights were being tested and occasionally suppressed, new moral and political values began to develop, and the Vietnam War dominated the twenty year period. Vietnam invited many young activist people to begin a huge movement of anti war protesting denouncing the war, the government, and even the soldiers who were picked against their will to fight. Reasons for American entry into the Vietnam War are controversial, and everyone has a different opinion on why we got into the conflict. Multiple reasons contributed to the entry in Vietnam from support of allies who were fighting their battles, to the fact that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason for American entry into the Vietnam War was the commitment that had formerly been made by the French and the American s into the fight or the support of the fight in Vietnam for the French colony. The French had been fighting for an Indochina colony after World War Two to benefit them, but at the same time had been struggling with domestic costs and issues. American support to the French in the form of millions of dollars to support the war failed, but officially committed to Americans to a cause in Vietnam in the American government s eyes. In 1954, at Dienbienphu the French military forces came into conflict with the North Vietnamese forces, called the Vietminh after their leader Ho Chi Minh, being defeated and leaving the Communist Vietnamese the victors. The French negotiations left a border at the 17th parallel making North Vietnam the communist half of the country while the Southern half was the democratic portion. An election was set up to decide whether the government was to become communist or democratic. American officials would not stand for this agreement realizing that it would fall to the communist, so they replaced the French in South Vietnam and began to train the South Vietnamese Army. This would soon lead us into the actual cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone else I had talked to had decided against participating, so I decided that I wasn t going to either. However, as I sat and listened to the woman talk, and saw how sincere she was, I began to listen with a new interest. Then she put a video on featuring stories of the people and families this affected. There was one in particular about a little girl who had gotten in a car accident and would have died had she not received a blood transfusion. Due to a blood drive held earlier that day, the little girl s life was saved. It was then that I made my decision. I was going to donate blood. I was still only 17, but that s the age requirement ... The sound of the bacon sizzling and the dishes being moved around gave me a warm, toasty feeling that calmed my nerves and made me relax. My mom reassured me that everything would be fine, but at the same time she asked how I could do it. She was so afraid of needles it seemed like everyone had to be. But needles never bothered me. In fact, I wasn t afraid to give blood at all. When I got to school that morning everyone was buzzing around nervously asking each other what time they were scheduled to donate. I had scheduled myself for 9:30am so I could miss my British Literature class (we were watching a movie and I wasn t up to it). Everyone else I had spoken with wasn t scheduled until later that afternoon. I would be one of the first donors. A little impatiently I sat through both of my morning classes. Before I knew it, though, it was time to make my way down to the gym and begin a process that would change my view on life. • 6. Essay on Equality and Civil Rights Democracy stresses the equality of all individuals and insists that all men are created equal. Democracy does not persist on an equality of condition for all people or argue that all persons have a right to an equal share of worldly goods. Rather, its concept of equality insists that all are entitled to equality of opportunity and equality before the law. The democratic concept of equality holds that no person should be held back for any such arbitrary reasons as those based on race, color, religion, or gender. This concept of equality holds that each person must be free to develop himself or herself as fully as he or she can or cares to and that each person should be treated as the equal of all other persons by the law. Equality and Civil Rights is complex in nature that the 14th Amendment (Equal Protection Clause) is the closest approach to a literal statement of equality, it declares: No State shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. The clause was originally intended to benefit newly freed slaves. Over time, it has acquired a broader meaning. Today, it forbids states and their local governments to draw unreasonable distinctions between classes of persons. The equal rights amendment (ERA) was introduced in 1923. Their policy was for protection of women and based largely on sexual stereotypes, which has been woven into the legal fabric of American life. This protectionism has limited the freedom of women to compete with men socially and economically on an equal footing. The movement to provide equal rights to women advanced a step with the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963. That act required equal pay for men and women doing similar work. On the other hand, to remove the restrictions of protectionism, women needed equal opportunity for employment. They got it in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and later the legislation. The commitment that led to affirmative action programs expanded opportunities for women, minorities, and those who are disabled. The (Equal Opportunity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This poem involves two characters known as hector and Achilles. Even though both hector and Achilles have there own notable strengths, one is more heroic than the other according to the traits of an epic hero, and the other is more heroic in the terms of the modern standards of a hero. Of course both Hector and Achilles have there own notable strengths. Achilles is best known for his combat skills in war. Since our country was founded we have progressed in the sense that we have established laws that prohibit us from viewing women as inferior to men in the workplace and thus forcing us to give the same opportunities to both men and women alike. So then we are left with the question; why does this inequality still exist today? It can be best explained as there are still individuals within our society than believe certain gender roles foster a better society. • 16. Alternate Outcome At Fort Ticonderoga Alternate outcome at Fort Ticonderoga In order to come to an alternative outcome, one must first address the instructional letter sent from General Gage to General Carleton after the battles at Lexington and Concord. The letter took far too long to get to General Carleton. General Gage had credible human intelligence suggesting that the colonists wanted to take Fort Ticonderoga. While one understands that one must use the chain of command, one would think the immediacy of the letter was far more important and should have gone directly to Fort Ticonderoga, instead of the 10 day long ride to Montreal. And even if that was not proper protocol, General Gage could have at least sent an advisor with knowledge of surveillance techniques to Fort Ticonderoga to aid in their post and give better forewarning of a potential attack. Secondly, had the British force at Fort Ticonderoga had cavalry scouts assigned to it, there would not have been much of an American Revolution. The cavalry scouts would have picked up the trail of Colonels Allen, Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys. The Scouts could have performed reconnaissance and then reported back to the garrison commander, putting the whole fort on guard. Then the garrison commander could have contacted both the British sloop in Lake Champlain and the garrison at Fort Crown Point for further aid and reinforcements, beating back the patriot attacking force. Thirdly, with more troops at the fort, the British could have afforded a couple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But in our initial reactions of shock and awe, we must ask one fundamental question: Is this crisis the beginning of a national catastrophe? To answer this question, we don t have to look far. Last week, the Ithaca City School District shut off their water supply after the detection of high levels of lead. In Newark, New Jersey, 17,000 children are now being tested for lead poisoning. In Long Island, New York, dilapidated cesspools leaking nitrogen have led to a mass die off of flora and fauna within the Long Island Sound. Each rock type has their own specific ways, but there are two distinct characteristics that apply to all. These are texture and composition. These two, along with many others helps to classify igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. Igneous rocks are classified first by texture. This is broken down mainly into grain size. Chemical sedimentary rocks are biochemical, and contain ions in the solution from weathering. These are also further classified. First you have limestone, which can be either organic or inorganic. An example would be fossiliferous or chalk. Next is dolostone, and it is formed from dolomite. Chert is next; and can be organic or inorganic also. Flint and jasper are some examples of chert. Rock salt and gypsum are what are known as evaporites. These form from the evaporation of saline waters in an arid environment. Finally there is coal, which is organic and forms from buried plant remains and carbon. There is one more type of rock that is classified the same way as the previous two. Metamorphic rocks are pre existing rocks that are changed by heat and pressure. The pre existing rock is called the parent rock, or protolith. Metamorphism occurs in these rocks when the minerals become instable. There are two types of metamorphism, contact and regional. Contact is high temperature, low pressure. This poem expresses, the author s difficult and awkward communication with a lover through a broken relationship. word choice and imagery is imperative to the overall effect and tone of the poem. The usage of an atypical sonnet stylization, broken sentences, forms of metaphors, symbolism, sensory language, and alliteration form strong imagery, and a sense of disconnect. The overall effect leaves the reader with a resonating feeling of emptiness. The main theme within Clarke s Sonnet is his distance and inability to communicate with a lover. This poem is written for his lover as an attempt to connect with her, although within the poem, he is continuing to communicate poorly. The way in which he copes with this broken relationship drives the tone of the poem. A common theme throughout the poem is the coping mechanism used for his troubled relationship. The 19th and 20th centuries are seen as the most definitive years which the fate of people of color and other ethnic minorities was determined. In today s society, a college education is essential for a good career. Based off a Edward Jones survey, 83% of Americans say they cannot afford the expense of a college education. Growing up in public schools, college has always been slipped into conversations. Especially in high school, our teachers are preparing us for college. However, they are not preparing us for our future careers or how to obtain a household income, just simply for us to attend college. We are taught about the importance of college, but never warned about the cost of tuition and how to pay for it. The Educational Value Of Virtual Reality I Have a Question! : The Educational Value of Virtual Reality Since the 1950 s, virtual reality (VR) has been hovering on the periphery of technology without achieving accepted mainstream application or commercial adoption. However, that is beginning to change and virtual reality has become a popular topic within the latest technological headlines. According to TechCrunch, VR startups have raised more than $1.46 billion in venture capital, and people believe that this is the year that VR will finally take off. Virtual reality provides an escape from reality through a portal to an alternate reality with a landscape that feels realistic. As VR becomes more popular, some educators and employers are looking to incorporate VR as a primary teaching tool due to its widespread and numerous uses. However, while virtual reality may seem like a beneficial educational tool, problems will inevitably arise from the development and implementation of VR in education, and a middle ground will need to be discovered. While statistics on VR use in K 12 schools and colleges have yet to be gathered, the steady growth of the market is reflected in the surge of companies solely dedicated to providing K 12 schools with packaged educational curriculum, content, teacher training and technological tools to support VR based instruction in classrooms around the world. • 45. Salt Marsh Ecosystems On Earth Introduction Salt marsh ecosystems are among the most productive ecosystems on earth and provide numerous ecosystem services (Ghorai Sen, 2015; Charles Dukes, 2009; Drociak, 2005). These services include biofiltration, gas regulation, carbon and nutrient retention, and physical protection of coastlines from storm surges and coastal flooding (Drociak, 2005; Sweat, 2009; FWC, 2016). Salt marshes act as nurseries and ensure habitat and resources for unique flora, fauna, and microbial communities (Ghorai Sen, 2015), including commercially and recreationally important species such as horseshoe crabs, fish, and shellfish (FWC, 2016). Salt marsh plants also help trap nutrients, pollutants, and sediments, which improves water quality offshore (FWC, 2016). Many of the world s salt marsh habitats have also been lost over the last several centuries to filling, draining, and diking (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008). While the diking and impoundment of the salt marshes created more area for development, the ecological structure, as well as the benefits and ecological services the salt marshes provided, were eliminated in the process (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, 2008; Thelen, 2009).
