Victory In The Civil War
There are various factors that lead to victory. That s a fact for all competitions: battles and wars.
Motivation, environment, population, and resources seem to be the biggest factors. The War for
Independence, for example, was a war where most people could predict the outcome an overwhelming
British victory. However, the opposite happened. The people without a powerful government,
inexperienced soldiers, and a weak economy won. The British had a decent population and plenty of
resources, colonists, however, radiated motivation and fought the war on their own land. The situation
was different for the Civil War, though. Determination was shown by the South and the fight was on
their land, but the North excelled in population and resources.

Common Ethical Dilemmas Faced in Nursing
Nursing can have its ups and its downs; however, most of its problems occur when nurses are faced
with ethical decisions. Pro Life vs. Pro Choice, Freedom vs. Control, Truth vs. Deception, and
Knowledge vs. personal beliefs are all part of the problem. We live in a world where there seems to be
contriversy about everything. Nursing is a very important field where there has to be good
communication and great care, any hiccups in this could affect the whole work place. So what happens
when you re a nurse and you are placed in a big ethical dielemma.
FINDINGS
Pro Life Vs. Pro Choice
According to Merriam Webster s dictionary, Pro Choice means Believing that pregnant women should
have to right to choose abortion (Pro Choice). The definition of Pro Life is opposed of abortion (Pro
Life). Both words begin quite the argument in today s society.
What is Pro Life and Pro Choice
Over the years many nurses, men and women, have come face to face with situations regarding ethical
dilemmas one of which being the ever so popular argument of Pro choice vs. Pro life. Going into a job
in health care you are going to see things that may not sit well with you and many students going into
the nursing field have gone in with the mind set of being pro choice. In Jeff Lane Hensley s book, The
Zero People He quotes a unnamed student who stated I was for abortion but it wasn t until I saw a
actual abortion that it changed my mind, several other nurses changed their stand on pro

Politics And Politics Of Mexico
Politics has had significant impacts on states. Depending on the state, they can be positive or negative.
The politics of Mexico can be represented by three authors: Seeing Like a State by James Scott,
Transitions to Democracy by Dankwart Rustow, and End of the Transition Paradigm by Thomas
Carothers all exemplify the politics of the country of Mexico.
Mexico can be described as a country de democratizing; it is still officially a democratic unity, but
citizens are skeptical about completely trusting their government. The political system has an effective
organizational basis, meaning the checks and balances concept also applies to their government and
citizens are able to vote for favorable political candidates, however, often ... Show more content on

The arrangement of cities is important to facilitate political control.
In regards to the influence of politics towards a state, Rustow discusses the process to which
democracy is developed. National unity is key, and is the foundation of the process (Rustow 1970:
350); Lacking national unity would mean that democracy would not be able to flourish, or even begin
developing. By national unity, Rustow means that as a whole, a majority of citizens in a country not
yet in a democracy, must agree on identification of their political status (Rustow 351). This would
allow the transition to democracy to be more smoothly, and have minimal conflict since the majority
of citizens would agree on their political identification for their country.
Secondly, however, conflict is necessary, according to Rustow (Rustow 352). Conflict would
eventually lead the opponents to end up with democracy, but Rustow still recognizes the possible
failure of reaching democracy through conflict (Rustow 355). Conflict will force the parties involved
to think of ways to secede from such turmoil, thus democracy could be a possible outcome. But, the
possibility still exists that both parties will not reach a solution or that one party may win and lead the
way towards a non democratic political system (Rustow 354).

Mrs Sen s By Lahiri
In the story Mrs. Sen s , Lahiri presents the struggles of assimilating into a new country and portrays
how lonely and restricted immigrants can feel. She is able to do this through her use of the character,
Mrs. Sen, a woman who is originally from India. Throughout the story we see how difficult it is for
Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in America. Her days, usually consist of staying in an apartment
while her husband teaches at a nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian lifestyle still seems very
prominent, all her furniture is still wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all lined in a bookcase by the front
door, she refuses to purchase fish from the supermarket and she uses an abnormal blade to do her
cooking. All of this illustrating how perhaps she is not ready to let go of her Indian lifestyle and
assimilate. Mrs. Sen is representative of the struggles of assimilation, which often include feeling
lonely and restriceted. She always relies on Mr. Sen, she barely knows anybody, she often misses her
family and she cannot seem to make America feel like home.
Throughout the story we begin to notice how Mrs. Sen is a somewhat lonely person. This however, is
not by choice. She does not know too many people other than her husband, a man who calls her when
there is fresh fish from the seaside, Elliot, an eleven year old she babysits, and Elliot s mother. Most of
her time is spent with Elliot, in a way he s her only friend. For someone who is used to knowing
everyone in her

Examples Of Conflict In Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan
Within the text Rules of the Game written by Amy Tan, the clash of Chinese beliefs and values with
those of American beliefs and values can be seen. This clash of values and beliefs between two culture
causes many mother daughter conflicts throughout the story. Waverly grew up in San Francisco in a
Chinese American neighborhood while her mother was a first generation immigrant. This difference in
their surroundings has caused their beliefs and values to differ from each other. Due to the clashing of
Chinese and American cultures, there are multiple incidents of conflict between MeiMei and her
mother. A key example of such an incident is when MeiMei is forced to accompany her mother to the
Saturday market. According to the text, MeiMei s mother would proudly walk with MeiMei and tell
everyone who looked towards them that MeiMei was her daughter. MeiMei then told her mom if she
could stop telling everyone who looked their way that MeiMei was her daughter. Her mother
misunderstood what MeiMei said, thinking that MeiMei was ashamed of walking with her. This then
caused MeiMei to tell her mother, If you want to show me off, then why don t you learn to play chess.
When MeiMei had realized that what she said was wrong, she ran away from her mother. To MeiMei,
her mother going around and telling everyone that MeiMei was her daughter was embarrassing
because she didn t want her mom to use her as a source to gain popularity. In MeiMei s beliefs, her
chess victories were her own accomplishments, one she should be the only one to use since she feels
as though she gained them on her own. Her mother on the other hand, sees MeiMei s achievements as
a victory for the whole family and is proud of her daughter. MeiMei misunderstands this, thinking her
mother was just crediting herself for MeiMei s work and so runs off. This clash in values caused this
incident. MeiMei s escape from her mother leads to a new conflict of MeiMei running away from her
mom. It is stated in the text that MeiMei ran through the alleyways until she realized that she was
running from nothing. After two hours, MeiMei returned home and her mother said, We not
concerning this girl. This girl not have concerning for us. From this it can be

Cochlear Implant Experience
I am an eighteen year old senior at Mountain Lakes High School. I was a few months old when my
parents realized I could not hear. A doctor confirmed that I was deaf. My parents knew I needed the
best education. I received a hearing aid, but it never worked. Finally, my father had me evaluated for a
cochlear implant. When I had the surgery, it was a success because I was finally able to hear. I attend a
program mainly for deaf and hard of hearing students, mainstreamed with hearing students. I had to
work tremendously hard to understand spoken language and to learn how to speak. When I am in a
mainstreamed class I have to pay extra attention more than any of the students that can hear. I use a
notetaker and an interpreter to be able to understand

3d Printing And Its Effects
Introduction
3D printing has been quoted by the Financial Times and from other sources as, Possibly being bigger
than the internet (Jun 21, 2012). The earliest 3D printing technologies first became visible in the late
1980 s. There are multiple different types of 3D printing technologies, which process different
materials in unique ways to create the desired object. Since the emergence of 3D printing,
developments and improvements to the process and the materials has greatly expanded the various
applications. 3D printing was invented as a means of speeding up the early stages of product
development, using simple material, and multiple applications.

Because of these advancements, like most technology, it soon made its way into the hands of the
consumers. In 2007 the first system under $10,000 was made by 3D Systems. However, it wasn t until
January 2009 that the first commercially available 3D printer was offered for sale.
3D Printing Technologies There are multiple different types of 3D printing technologies, which
process different materials in unique ways to create the desired object. Before you read on let us first
learn some basics about 3D printing, which will be explained later in greater detail. The starting point
for any 3D printing process is a 3D digital model, which can be created using a variety of 3D software
programs. The only limitations to 3D printing is the amount of material you have. The most common
and recognized material would be plastics, Ex. PLA and ABS. When using plastics, the process is as
follows: extruding the material in filament form through a heated extruder to form layers and create
the predetermined shape. Because parts can be printed directly, it is possible to produce very detailed
and intricate objects. As well as technology, there are multiple processes for 3D printing. The very
first being Stereolithography (SL). SL is a very accurate laser based process that works with
photopolymer resins (see picture one). Next is Digital Light Processing (DLP), which is similar to SL
in the aspect of photopolymers. The only major difference/advantage between the two is that DLP

Comparing Two Planetss
So, there are two groups of planets; the inner planets and the outer planets. They have a lot of
differents like atmosphere, weight, size and more. although the inner and outer planets have a lot in
common like what they revolve, the solar system they are in and more. With eight planets (Mercury,
Venus, Earth Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) there is a lot of information.
With these many planets there are a lot of similarities, that all the planets have. One thing all they
plant have is an axis, ever though all the axises are different all plants have one. Of course one thing
they have in common is are they planets are in our solar system. A third similarity is that all the
pictures we have of the plants are from the same telescope, the Hubble Telescope. Fourth to be
included in this they must orbit the Sun. Another fact is that they all have a mass and with that gravity.
Even if the planets are so different, for size, to where they are they all share these similarities and
others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two groups are the terrestrial and the jovian planets, or the inner and outer planets. These two
groups are used to show the differences in planets. Terrestrial planets (inner planets) are called this
because of the rock that makes up the planet. Jovian planets (outer planets) are mostly made of gas
causing this name, as well as the name gas giants. The atmospheres are also because with Terrestrial
being mostly made of hydrogen and helium, Jovian being mostly carbon

Lust Leads to Death in Mann s Death in Venice Essay
Can lust lead to your death bed? Aschenbach is known as the main character in the novel Death in
Venice. He grew up in a rich background where he had the fame, wealth and money. Aschenbach was
born the son of a career civil servant in the justice ministry, while his mother was the daughter of a
music director. Aschenbach had his life planned out; he was very accurate and organized. Even in his
youth, he set out a goal for himself. He envision to live an old age and to continue to produce great
literature. He was practically still in high school when he made a name for himself. Ten years later he

As a reader, I can assume that his death awaits him in Venice, that the lust and desire that he possesses
of traveling to Venice might be the cause of his death because somehow I feel as if the title of the
novel seemingly gives it away.
Arriving at Venice, he promptly checks into a hotel. Making himself comfortable in the drawing room,
he takes his time to examine his surroundings and the people with whom he will be vacationing with.
The hotel guests are an international mix. He notices 3 adolescent girls and a boy, yet his attention is
quickly drawn to the boy who is about 14 years of age. Achenbach noted with astonishment that the
boy was perfectly beautiful (Mann, 2004, p.1855), as he went on observing and describing the boy s
entire feature. It was a face reminiscent of Greek statues from the noblest period of antiquity; it
combined perfection of form with a unique personal charm that caused the onlooker to doubt ever
having met with anything in nature or in art that could match his perfection. ( Mann, 2004, p.1855).
From this point on, I began to question his sexuality because to me, it seems that he has homosexual
tendencies. Furthermore, any reader can conclude that he envies the boy. In Achenbach s mind; the
young boy reflects the perfect image of happiness. Something he never felt deep within. Achenbach
never got a chance to enjoy his childhood. Most of his childhood days were gloom since it was spent

The Virgin Atlantic Essay examples
The Virgin Atlantic is providing jobs to wishful applicants that were interested in joining them. But
before proceeding further, let we explain what the definition of employed and unemployed is. In this
sense, the employed are the one who currently have job meanwhile, the unemployed are those who
currently do not have jobs, and together with the unemployed, they create the labor force (O Sullivan,
Sheffrin, Perez, 2010). From the micro economical perspective, the company is contributing to the
country production in terms of providing employment through their airline business. In fact, the more
that they employ, the more they contribute to the marginalization of the employed and the
unemployed. For example, a successful applicant that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

tourism aspects. Foreign tourist from the Europe and all perhaps from all over the world will come to
Asian countries. This will boom the tourism industry in the particular country. This will develop the
infrastructure of the country itself (Tucker, 2010). In terms of employment, especially that rely on
tourism industry, more and more labour will be needed. Hence, the requirement for workers will
increase. Job seekers around the world will come to that country to seek for job. In fact, the local
people themselves will need to compete with foreign workers to get the job. Hotels for example, will
be built and increased from time to time.
Other than that, there s another effort that has been doing by Virgin Group on aviation industry

their low cost airlines strategies. The implementation of the works management strategies was

Food Is Cheap, At Least Compared With 4 Years Ago By Dan...
Summary The article that I did was Food is Cheap, At Least compared with 4 years ago by Dan
Charles. This article is about how the global food price index is going down, and has fallen to its
lowest level in the last four years. It is saying that a lot of different foods are getting cheaper like
grains, vegetable oils, sugar, and dairy products. So that means that CPI should decrease now since a
family will be spending less money on those products. The only place where the prices are not falling
is in the meat industry especially in the beef industry. That is because the supply for beef was
decreased after a drought made the suppliers want to decrease the size of the herd. That in turn caused
the producers of the beef to have expectations that the future was going to be bleak for them. So they
decided to not spend as much in their planned investments. Now because of these past decisions; when
the market rebounded it the supply was down. Another plus in the market that is currently happening
in the U.S. right now is that the food industry is having harvests of corn and soybean that will break
the records in the overall production and yield per acre. This has caused the grain prices to fall by
almost half. This makes the producers of pork, poultry, and beef very happy. Their PPI has gone down,
so they are getting their things that they need to feed their animals cheaply. Then they are selling their
animals at a very high rate, higher than normal

Genetic Disorders ( Genetic Disease Foundation ) Essay
There are around 6,000 known genetic disorders (Genetic Disease Foundation). The symptoms of
these disorders range from memory loss to blindness, physical abnormalities and more. A process
known as gene editing was created in an attempt to do away with genetic disorders. Gene editing was
named Science Magazine s Breakthrough of the Year 2015 due to its ease and high accessibility
(ScienceDirect). It works by using CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic
Repeats) and Cas9 to make changes in the genes of cells. Francisco Mojica discovered CRISPR in
1993 at the University of Alicante in Spain (Broad Institute). It works by adding, changing or even
removing DNA bases (Your Genome). Alexander Bolotin discovered Cas9 in 2005 at the French
National Institute for Agricultural Research (Broad Institute). Cas9 is an enzyme that acts as a pair of
molecular scissors that can cut two strands of DNA at a specific location in the genome so that bits of
DNA can then be added or removed (YourGenome). The CRISPR Cas9 system has been used to
correct genetic mutations and for replacing entire genes, opening up a world of possibilities for the
treatment of genetic diseases (ScienceDirect). This makes CRISPR Cas9 a new and revolutionary
technology with a wide range of potential applications, and almost everybody will be affected by gene
editing in one way or another. The scientists currently working on making human gene editing a
reality, is only one group of

The Walt Disney Company is currently known as being one of the biggest and most famous
entertainment and animation companies in the world with international amusement parks and an
outstanding animation studio as well as a business franchise. It was founded in 1923 as a cartoon
studio in Kansas City and its mission is to Make people happy .
The Walt Disney Company history started when Ub Iwerks and Walter Elias Disney, after being fired

Another reason given by Walt to change the name of the company was the fact that if the name was

Secondly, Walt Disney decided to move into a bigger studio that was built on Hyperion Avenue in
1926. It was in that studio that Walt Disney along with his staff in order to overcome the crisis that the
company was feeling after the Alice Comedies circumstance, that he designed a new character and
gave him a personality that endeared him to all, Mickey Mouse .
After the development and success of the new character, Walt Disney Studios became a global
reference. ( Mickey Mouse was actually going to be called Mortimer Mouse . However, Lillian
Disney, Walt s wife, did not like the name Mortimer because it was too depressing so they changed it
into Mickey because it was a happy and friendly name .) That is the reason why Walt Disney always
stated that It all started with a mouse . Initially, Walt was unable to sell the first two Mickey Mouse
cartoons because they were silent films. Therefore, they made a third Mickey Mouse cartoon, this time
with fully synchronized sound, the Steamboat Willie, which premiered at the Colony Theater in New

An Essay On Aids Conspiracy Theory
AIDS is a creation of the CIA. The Berenstein/Berenstain Bears multiverse theory. Unexplained
events being a glitch in the matrix . These are just a few of the many conspiracy theories I have
investigated throughout the years. I don t necessarily believe in most of the conspiracy theories that I
peruse, but that doesn t deter me from reading about them. For as long as I can remember, I ve always
loved to examine things beyond face value, and to instead think of what it could be. Growing up,
whenever I would read the Harry Potter series, my mind raced with the elements of foreshadowing
and the nuanced references scattered throughout the book, such as all of Professor Trelawney s

I would stay up late at night, completely invested in whatever theory enraptured me at the time. I was
insatiable every theory I read was inimitable in its own way, and every piece of evidence supporting or
debunking it only escalated my curiosity and quest for knowledge. In fact, many conspiracies led me
to gain a greater understanding of history in order to truly comprehend and gain a context for what I
was reading. For example, when I learned about the MKUltra Project where the CIA performed mind
control experiments on US citizens in the late 1940s and early 1950s I discovered that the experiments
took place near the beginning of the Cold War as a way to discover new methods of interrogation and
torture. Another theory that seems unlikely but also realistic claims that the CIA created HIV/AIDS in
order to wipe out African American, homosexual men in the 1980s a time when discrimination against
African Americans and homosexual men was still prominent. My interests led me to distant history, as
well such as claims of aliens helping the Egyptians built the Great Pyramids, the possibility that
Shakespeare was a woman, or the theory that a flying saucer crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in

Gender Inequality In Sheryl Sandberg s Lean In
Sheryl Sandberg s book Lean In tries to argue and persuade women that the best way to change gender
inequality starts with changing themselves. Her argument requires women to take the initiative and
change their own lives before bothering to transform the system and other outside forces. Sandberg is
not successful in her argument because her privilege and power in the workforce make it so her
argument is only relevant to a small percent of the population, and thus, while not invalid, not as
relevant as it could be.
She is very privileged, and it shows in her writing. She is a white, wealthy, and among the most
privileged members of our society. This is where she is coming from, and it is not a place most
Americans can understand. Most of the time she seems unaware of this privilege as it hardly ever ...

On one hand, the way it is written makes the book very accessible for people to read and understand.
But it is really geared for white, corporate women. This leaves out the large chunk of the population
who are not white and/ or are not working in the corporate world, especially those who work
minimum wage jobs or jobs that are lower on the totem pole. This, in turn, undermines Sandberg s
argument and her assumption that her book will work for everyone.
Sandberg structures her book so she has a lot of personal anecdotes that she uses to try to get her point
across and to invoke pathos. However, her stories are not relatable: most of the population cannot
begin to imagine walking up to the founders of Google, addressing them by their first name, and
making demands that are acknowledged addressed, crying on Mark Zuckerberg s shoulder, or even
going to a school like Harvard (Sandberg 4, 88, 29). This in a way distances Sandberg from most of
her readers, it is difficult to identify and empathize with a woman who has a net worth of 1.44 billion

What is Cryptography?
Cryptography is a method of storing and transmitting data in a particular form so that only those for
whom it is intended can read and process it. (Rouse, Definition: Cryptography, 2016)
It s meant for keeping secrets secret.
The objectives of Cryptography are as follows:
Confidentiality Ensuring that the information cannot be understood by anyone other than whom it was
intended.
Integrity Ensuring that the information cannot be altered in storage or in transit.
Non repudiation Where the creator or sender of information cannot later deny creation of the message
to be sent.
Authentication In which the sender and receiver can confirm each other s identity as well as the origin

Video Content And Online Streaming
When it comes to video content, students have the choice between a cable subscription and various
online streaming companies. As the demand for video content grows, alternatives to cable
subscriptions have become more popular, like online streaming. Online streaming can be accessed
three different ways: via cable providers (i.e. Verizon Fios), through online video streaming
subscriptions (i.e. Netflix), or for free (i.e. piracy). In this report, the focus of online video streaming
will be on subscription services. This means that the video content is only available through a paid
subscription. The choice to subscribe to a paid online streaming service can be influenced by many
factors. Adoption of Online Streaming With the constant development of video content, it s important
for users to have easy access to view it anywhere and at anytime. People are now able to do this with
the creation of online streaming services. Instead of the typical way of watching video content on a
television set, people can now use any electronic device to view their favorite shows (Henkel, 2016, p.
46). New media options to view video content have fewer constraints than traditional media with
regard to content offering and the broadcasting program delivery method (Kang, 2014, p. 1043).
Media richness in the digital environment is defined as a wide range of selection (Kang, 2014). Online

The Pros And Cons Of Direct Democracy In The United States
Direct democracy is a government in which the people decide. Direct democracy overall is a positive
thing, but as with everything, there can be some dangers. Direct democracy is a form of democracy in
which the people are able to vote and form consensus on policies directly. The people have the power
of recall, which gives the public the power to remove elected officials from office before the end of
their term if they do not feel they are doing a great job. California voters are also able to help make
laws by creating ballot propositions. Propositions are ideas voters have for new laws or changes to the
constitution. Direct democracy in California started in the early 1900 s, when many citizens in
California were unhappy with the state government. The citizens then created a system of initiatives
and referendums. Initiative is a proposal for a new law and a referendum allows the citizens to vote for
or against a law that the state assembly has passed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Direct democracy is supposed to promote a cooperative community, people have the power to speak
for their opinions. It promotes civic involvement and a meaningful society where informed decisions
are not just made by the government but by the public as well. The citizens are able to learn the
important information they need in order to understand issues of the government and laws that are
implemented. In a direct democracy the people are able to feel that their voice matters and that if the
majority of the public is against a law or feels that a person in office is not living up to what they said,
they have the right to either fix the law or remove the person from office. This feeling of a voice
makes the public more willing to get involved and care about the

Essay On Martha Graham
Martha Graham: dancer, teacher, choreographer, mother of 20th century dance. Martha is recognized
as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century. Her dance technique and style
was constantly growing and expanding through experimentation of what the body could do based on
its own structure. I wanted to begin, she said, not with characters or ideas, but with movement (World
Biography). She believed that the purpose of dance was to create an increased awareness of life and a
greater understanding of the nature of humans. By rejecting the traditional steps of classical ballet and
experiencing the art of dance from a unique perspective, Martha Graham could inspire others and

Not many years later, George Graham dies suddenly, leaving
Martha an open opportunity to enroll into a school of art.
From the years 1913 1916, Martha attended the Cumnock School of Expression, a junior college in
Santa Barbara where she would study academic and practical theater arts. This is where her dancing
experience would technically begin, as the students had interpretive dancing three times per week. In
1916, Graham enrolled into the Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn
School of Dance in Los Angeles. The school taught ballet, ethnic dance, music, codified dramatic
gestures, makeup, lighting, costumes, dance history, Greek philosophy, and yoga and meditation. At
age 22, Martha had a late start for training, yet was still serious and intent on becoming a prestigious
dancer. Martha s body was very supple and strong and had the ability to project most every dramatic
movement. She had an extremely flexible body and was very small yet often appeared to be taller. She
was also very disciplined and precise. Ruth ultimately was unimpressed by Graham s abilities, yet
Shawn was drawn to her diligence and memory of the steps and movements. Martha began
performing in 1919 and was given her first leading role in the piece Xochitl in 1920. Soon after
Martha s success in this production, Louis Horst, a pianist for the Denishawn Company, becomes her
strong critic, influence, and mentor of hers. Graham leaves Denishawn Studio in 1923 after
producer/director John Murray

Analysis Of Superman, Batman, And Wonder Woman
Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, where they are seen as gods with monstrous powers. In this
noir reality, we have Hernan Guerra, Kirk Langstromg, and Bekka as Superman, Batman, and Wonder
Woman. However, apart for the several darker turns of this world, this Justice League kills. And it
brings in the age old question of superheroes, what happens when powerful beings work against the
law?
Superheroes are strong promotions for American propaganda. The Justice League, even Avengers
from Marvel are fighting alongside the American president and with American law. But that doesn t
always mean that they re doing the right thing. Superman and other heroes have been aware. Even in
issue #900 of Action Comics, Superman renounced his American citizenship, and this wasn t his first
time. The best heroes are aware of being tainted by bad politics. This version of Superman, Batman,
and Wonder Woman challenge that in this sensational animated film.
It s a darker world, with darker endings for many surrounding characters. Cyborg s hero story is cut
short by tragedy, and each member of the Trinity carries devastating origin stories.
The entrance is wicked. It s bloody, fast paced, and it pulls you into their world quickly. The military
and president is afraid of the League, but at the same time, the Trinity has only been beneficial to
society as their victims are mainly terrorists and murderers. You will enjoy.

Positive And Negative Effects Of Gender Stereotyping
Throughout society there are many different cultural and social perceptions that allow people to form
judgmental beliefs about society. Encompassed within these perceptions are stereotypes and prejudice.
Stereotypes and prejudice are examples of categorizations of people which allow our brains to fill in
the types or interactions that may happen with people. There are different positive and negative forms
of stereo types and prejudice that effect our interaction with individuals resulting in judgmental
affliction upon individuals or groups. This essay will analyze and provide examples of the positive and
negative effects of gender stereotyping and prejudice. Stereotyping can come in many different forms
and have many different subjects. One form of stereotyping is of gender. Just about everyone holds
stereotypes of women and men some positive and some negative. Women are more empathic and
talkative; men are more competent and aggressive. For example, are women really more empathic
than men? Which women? Empathic toward whom? When women s and men s actual behavior is
observed systematically under a variety of conditions, the sexes do not differ in having feelings of
empathy or in its expression (book, p. 365). Social pressures influence how we conform to these
stereotypes, however it does create a problem when people are victimized by the negative stereotypes
of their gender or group. There are different connotations that can be identified when stereotyping:
positive, women are better caregivers and men are better breadwinners or money makers. These
positive connotations can be taken negative towards the other gender or even their own gender men
can be caretakers too and women can make money. In the early 1900 s there was a high discrimination
towards women, women entering the work force worked in factory lines, while men worked
management which resulted in lower pay for women kept the men in charge. Over the years gender
roles have taken a turn and there is now a significant increase with women working and taking on
management roles. Roles in society are different between genders and those differences either positive
or negative will hopefully diminish after time.

Defending Hard Determinism Against the Strongest...
Defending Hard Determinism Against the Strongest Objections Raised Against It
In this academic essay there will be a clear and defined description of both hard determinism and its
eventual nemesis indeterminism. Based on these definitions there will be a personal attempt at
denying hard determinism. This will be accomplished through the introduction of David Hume and his
radical philosophy on causality and the relation this may have on hard determinism, as well as the
various possibilities it may distinguish. Furthermore the Causal Principle will also be introduced and
slandered in its incapability to provide a concrete defense for hard determinism and its potential in
proposing a solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Necessary connection suggests that the common concept of causality is that the cause and the effect
are necessarily connected that is that if the cause occurs, the effect must occur as well; the effect
cannot but occur. (David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section 7)
Hume suggests that this perception of Necessary connection is wrong and states the following:
In considering the operation of causes, we are never able, in a single instance, to discover any power
or necessary connection; any quality which binds the effect to the cause, and renders the one an
infallible consequence of the other. We only find, that the one does actually, in fact follow the other.
Consequently, there is not, in any single, particular instance of cause and effect, anything which can
suggest the idea of power or necessary connection. (David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human
Understanding, Section 7)
Hume further strengthens his claim by exerting that there are no objects which by the mere survey,
without consulting experience, we can determine to be the cause of any other, and no objects, which
we can certainly determine in the same manner not to be the causes. (David Hume, An

Government Conspiracies and Life Threatening Experiments
Powered byLoading... Look, if you think any American official is going to tell you the truth, then you
re stupid. Did you hear that? stupid, proclaims Arthur Sylvester, Assistant Secretary of Defense for
Public Affairs (The Governments, 1). Those that reflect a low trust for the government and businesses
have conjured various theories to explain where the government has failed to inform their nation with
all of the information. With the government exempting themselves from telling their citizens thetruth,
America has every right not to trust them. As people of a country founded on truth and justice, the
citizens should open their eyes and not be blinded by the pretentious feeling of safety that the officials
are trying to portray. Conspiracy Theorists have made many different theories to prove events where
reality has been distorted. While some are false, some can be educated theories and proven right.
Although, few Government conspiracies have held legitimacy throughout history, some are founded
on truth. Without us realizing the government s superior motive, it is easy to find times in the past
when the people that hold great power would manipulate the general public. During the

On April 12, 2016 I attended Susan Davis and Dr. Robert Wells Bach, Rach and Blues piano selections

first time attending a concert that was being played on the piano throughout the entire concert. It was
also a great experience because I gotten the chance to see my music professor (Mrs. Davis) perform

(Mrs. Davis) play an entire piece. This concert gave inspiration to go after my once and now
childhood dreams of playing the piano. I just love to hear the melody of the piano because its gives the
music a new sound with a deeper meaning. Mrs. Davis s class really gave insight on the baroque
which help me understand the era being tribute to in the performances. Each baroque and blues section

How Lincoln Remained Neutral in His 2nd Inaugural Address...
We will be concerned with whether Abraham Lincoln succeeded in remaining indifferent and
nonpartisan towards the South in his 2nd Inaugural Address. In what is considered one of the most
distinguished Presidential commencement speeches on record, as well as the shortest in length at
approximately 700 words, the Great Emancipator understood the Herculean task ahead of him in
unifying the bisected country. By illustrating how slavery was the predominant cause of hostility that
halved a nation, Lincoln expresses his eagerness for tranquility while heavily referencing the role of
God in the Union s endeavor to create a more perfect republic. In seeking to ensure that the
Confederate States would be welcomed back to the Union amiably, I will ... Show more content on

Roughly six weeks before he is to be assassinated at Ford s Theater by John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln
understood that in order to reunite America he could not glorify the North while simultaneously
denigrating the South, as that would bring about harm and alienation to a recovery in which his aim
was to bind up the nation s wounds (Dolbeare, pg. 277). With determination to reconstruct the
devastated South and usher in a new chapter in America s history, the President succeeded when it
came to not discerning between his beliefs, and those of the secessionists. A towering figure who
stood 6 4 , our tallest President s use of Biblical quotes embodies a large portion of his 2nd
Inauguration. It is evident that Lincoln is a man of tremendous spiritual faith, and one who postulates
that the will of God purged the nation of the evil of slavery, albeit through a grim, prolonged,
tumultuous battle. By not fixating on which side is at greater fault, Lincoln urged sympathy for
citizens of the South, claiming that soldiers (and citizens alike) read the same Bible, and pray to the
same God ( Dolbeare, pg. 277). By uttering the phrase care for him who shall have borne the battle,
the President not only borrows from the Bible s James 1:27, but assures every American that they are
now, officially, allied. He is proclaiming that there shall be no more inclinations of North against
South, or Union opposed to Confederate, rather,

He suggested that investors should choose portfolios and not individual shares.
(http://www.riskglossary.com/link/portfolio_theory.htm). Portfolio Theory: Markowitz contribution
showed that the benefits of diversification depend not just on risking individual assets but also on how
the asset returns interact with each other, or the correlation between returns. E.g. A combination of
investments in Umbrellas and Ice Creams will eliminate the risk of one another, i.e., the low returns
from ice creams in rainy season will be compensated by the umbrella sales. High returns in one
industry, in this case, always offset low returns in the other to give a positive return with certainty
because returns on the two assets are inversely correlated. Risk of a portfolio (combination of shares)
depends on the correlation between the expected return of every pair of shares in a portfolio.
Correlation varies between +1 and 1. Thus a perfectly positively correlated portfolio would mean a +1
and a negatively correlated portfolio would mean 1. In a positively correlated portfolio the expected
return would move in the same direction in the same proportion at all times, however in a negatively
correlated portfolio the returns would move in the opposite direction (J Ogilvie B Koch 2002). A

Composition of Interest Rates
Composition of interest rates
In economics, interest is considered the price of money, therefore, it is also subject to distortions due
to inflation. The nominal interest rate, which refers to the price before adjustment to inflation, is the
one visible to the consumer (i.e., the interest tagged in a loan contract, credit card statement, etc).
Nominal interest is composed by the real interest rate plus inflation, among other factors. A simple
formula for the nominal interest is: i = r + π
Where i is the nominal interest, r is the real interest and π is inflation.
This formula attempts to measure the value of the interest in units of stable purchasing power.

The risks of an individual debt may have a large standard deviation of possibilities. The lender may
want to cover his maximum risk. But lenders with portfolios of debt can lower the risk premium to
cover just the most probable outcome.
Deferred consumption: Charging interest equal only to inflation will leave the lender with the same
purchasing power, but he would prefer his own consumption NOW rather than later. There will be an
interest premium of the delay. See the discussion at time value of money. He may not want to
consume, but instead would invest in another product. The possible return he could realize in
competing investments will determine what interest he charges.
Length of time: Time has two effects. Shorter terms have less risk of default and inflation because the
near future is easier to predict. Broadly speaking, if interest rates increase, then investment decreases
due to the higher cost of borrowing (all else being equal).
Interest rates are generally determined by the market, but government intervention usually by a central
bank may strongly influence short term interest rates, and is used as the main tool of monetary policy.
The central bank offers to buy or sell money at the desired rate and, due to their control of certain
tools (such as, in many countries, the ability to print money) they are able to influence overall market
interest rates.
Investment can change rapidly to

group of company is not in breach of his fiduciary duty if the decision was based on what a reasonable
person could consider to be an act that was in the best interest of all companies in the group. Case law
has also shown that in situations where the interest of the company and the creditor coincides, it is
legitimate for the director to consider the interests of the creditors first . However, with evidence from
the fact that the director involved in the Equiticorp case was able to invoke best interest of the group
claim 17 years after the case law obliging directors to consider creditors interest first shows that the
entity model is still applicable in Australian law . Apparently this leads to very harsh rulings for
creditors in these insolvency situations. This means that Equiticorp s ruling diminishes the only hope

A case in point is the Westpac v The Bell Group . In the Westpac case, directors facing liquidation in

were due to be confiscated. A restructuring was attempted but it failed and the providers of the bailout
sought to sue for the assets used as collateral for the bailout. This was dragged through several years
of legal proceedings and it became apparent in 2013 (12 years afterwards) that the claim was not
recoverable. This shows that the enterprise model comes with grey areas that could be exploited by
reckless directors to cause further complications for potential creditors at the verge of a fold

and are essentially brainwashed into thinking what the Party wants them to think and do at all times.
Things like propaganda, two minutes hate (rallies where Party members must watch a video of the
Party s enemies and express hatred towards them), telescreens which watch the people s every move,
and most importantly fear of being vaporized from their very world are what drives the citizens
towards obedience and towards support for the Party. Orwell even says, Winston kept his back turned
to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing (Orwell 3).
These examples show the many ways that the Party exercises its control. With all these things
surrounding these people s lives, it is no wonder they live in fear and are brainwashed. All they know
and will ever know is of the Party. As Marx predicted, the Party controls the means of production in
Oceania, so therefore they control Oceania itself ( Marxist Theory

Macbeth Is a Play About Loss Essay
Macbeth is a play about loss. Discuss
In the tragedy Macbeth, William Shakespeare explores the theme of loss through protagonist Macbeth.
At the beginning of the play, Macbeth is a hero of noble stature whose fortunes are reversed as a result
of weakness. He becomes overwhelmed by his tragic flaw of vaulting ambition and his own actions
lead to his very nemesis. Macbeth loses his conscience after murdering King Duncan, sold his soul to
the devil and loses his life to his acts of evil that doomed him. By the end of the play, Macbeth loses
all his humanity and transforms into a ruthless , bloody butcher who has changed drastically from the
noble and valiant warrior he once was because he loses his human characteristics of ... Show more

Through his thoughts, actions, and decisions Macbeth demonstrates his overwhelming guilt. Macbeth
s desire to become king drives him to introduce plans for Duncan s murder. Macbeth puts power into
the hands of Lady Macbeth by sending her the letter that informs her of the prophecies. Lastly,
Macbeth acknowledges his guilt in several places in the story. Macbeth is aware that his thoughts are
corrupt and he knows that justice will somehow punish him. However, even with all his power,
Macbeth makes no attempt to reverse the situation and is thereby responsible for the loss of his life.
In the end, Macbeth loses all his conscience and guilt, and loses the war with his own soul. Noble
Macbeth falls from a well respected, honour d War hero to a butcherous killer, which has led to his
own death. Being tormented by the conscience and aftermath of guilt for murdering Duncan, Macbeth
loses his humanity and gives in to evil, and it is his tragic flaw of vaulting ambition that doomed

Methanol To China
Should there be more plastics? No? Because a chinese backed company plans to build a huge
methanol plant in federal way backyard so China can make more plastic gadgets. Currently, the plant
will have 1000 builders and then after it is built it will have 200 permanent job offers, we will be
shipping the methanol to china. In my opinion I disagree because methanol is very dangerous and
hazardous to our health and oceans. One reason is that methanol can cause bad things to happen to
people. When methanol is consumed by humans it can lead to blindness and damage to the central
nervous system. Methanol when consumed can cause death and within the liver, methanol is broken
down to form formaldehyde, a potential cancer agent. The primary danger

Communal Forgetfulness: How Memories Crowd Themselves Out of the Public Sphere Introduction
Human history is full of major events. Great tragedies, heroic victories, and unlikely achievements all
remain long after they have occurred, alive in the memory of the public and immortalized in histories
and songs. Over time, though, the importance of different memories changes, and some memories are
effectively crowded out of the public sphere of remembrance. In particular, tragic events that were
perpetrated by a culture tend to fade out of that culture s consciousness to make way for more recent
events. These events are not forgotten, but they are viewed through the lens of more recent events. The
memories of different events build on each other when they share common themes, even when the
events themselves are very different, which leads to a collective memory that is based on shared
national or international history. Public Memory People tend to think of memories as a set of
individual recollections of specific, chronological events. In reality, though, human memory is much
more nuanced and complex than just the storage of data like might be stored on a computer hard drive.
Memory is far more colored and far less accurate than simple data storage. One individual s memory
of an event may be entirely different than another individual s memory of that same event because of
differences

  • 2. Victory In The Civil War There are various factors that lead to victory. That s a fact for all competitions: battles and wars. Motivation, environment, population, and resources seem to be the biggest factors. The War for Independence, for example, was a war where most people could predict the outcome an overwhelming British victory. However, the opposite happened. The people without a powerful government, inexperienced soldiers, and a weak economy won. The British had a decent population and plenty of resources, colonists, however, radiated motivation and fought the war on their own land. The situation was different for the Civil War, though. Determination was shown by the South and the fight was on their land, but the North excelled in population and resources. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Common Ethical Dilemmas Faced in Nursing Nursing can have its ups and its downs; however, most of its problems occur when nurses are faced with ethical decisions. Pro Life vs. Pro Choice, Freedom vs. Control, Truth vs. Deception, and Knowledge vs. personal beliefs are all part of the problem. We live in a world where there seems to be contriversy about everything. Nursing is a very important field where there has to be good communication and great care, any hiccups in this could affect the whole work place. So what happens when you re a nurse and you are placed in a big ethical dielemma. FINDINGS Pro Life Vs. Pro Choice According to Merriam Webster s dictionary, Pro Choice means Believing that pregnant women should have to right to choose abortion (Pro Choice). The definition of Pro Life is opposed of abortion (Pro Life). Both words begin quite the argument in today s society. What is Pro Life and Pro Choice Over the years many nurses, men and women, have come face to face with situations regarding ethical dilemmas one of which being the ever so popular argument of Pro choice vs. Pro life. Going into a job in health care you are going to see things that may not sit well with you and many students going into the nursing field have gone in with the mind set of being pro choice. • 4. Politics And Politics Of Mexico Politics has had significant impacts on states. Depending on the state, they can be positive or negative. The politics of Mexico can be represented by three authors: Seeing Like a State by James Scott, Transitions to Democracy by Dankwart Rustow, and End of the Transition Paradigm by Thomas Carothers all exemplify the politics of the country of Mexico. Mexico can be described as a country de democratizing; it is still officially a democratic unity, but citizens are skeptical about completely trusting their government. The political system has an effective organizational basis, meaning the checks and balances concept also applies to their government and citizens are able to vote for favorable political candidates, however, often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The arrangement of cities is important to facilitate political control. In regards to the influence of politics towards a state, Rustow discusses the process to which democracy is developed. National unity is key, and is the foundation of the process (Rustow 1970: 350); Lacking national unity would mean that democracy would not be able to flourish, or even begin developing. By national unity, Rustow means that as a whole, a majority of citizens in a country not yet in a democracy, must agree on identification of their political status (Rustow 351). This would allow the transition to democracy to be more smoothly, and have minimal conflict since the majority of citizens would agree on their political identification for their country. Secondly, however, conflict is necessary, according to Rustow (Rustow 352). Conflict would eventually lead the opponents to end up with democracy, but Rustow still recognizes the possible failure of reaching democracy through conflict (Rustow 355). Conflict will force the parties involved to think of ways to secede from such turmoil, thus democracy could be a possible outcome. But, the possibility still exists that both parties will not reach a solution or that one party may win and lead the way towards a non democratic political system (Rustow 354). If the ... • 5. Mrs Sen s By Lahiri In the story Mrs. Sen s , Lahiri presents the struggles of assimilating into a new country and portrays how lonely and restricted immigrants can feel. She is able to do this through her use of the character, Mrs. Sen, a woman who is originally from India. Throughout the story we see how difficult it is for Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in America. Her days, usually consist of staying in an apartment while her husband teaches at a nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian lifestyle still seems very prominent, all her furniture is still wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all lined in a bookcase by the front door, she refuses to purchase fish from the supermarket and she uses an abnormal blade to do her cooking. All of this illustrating how perhaps she is not ready to let go of her Indian lifestyle and assimilate. Mrs. Sen is representative of the struggles of assimilation, which often include feeling lonely and restriceted. She always relies on Mr. Sen, she barely knows anybody, she often misses her family and she cannot seem to make America feel like home. Throughout the story we begin to notice how Mrs. Sen is a somewhat lonely person. This however, is not by choice. She does not know too many people other than her husband, a man who calls her when there is fresh fish from the seaside, Elliot, an eleven year old she babysits, and Elliot s mother. Most of her time is spent with Elliot, in a way he s her only friend. For someone who is used to knowing everyone in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This clash of values and beliefs between two culture causes many mother daughter conflicts throughout the story. Waverly grew up in San Francisco in a Chinese American neighborhood while her mother was a first generation immigrant. This difference in their surroundings has caused their beliefs and values to differ from each other. Due to the clashing of Chinese and American cultures, there are multiple incidents of conflict between MeiMei and her mother. A key example of such an incident is when MeiMei is forced to accompany her mother to the Saturday market. According to the text, MeiMei s mother would proudly walk with MeiMei and tell everyone who looked towards them that MeiMei was her daughter. MeiMei then told her mom if she could stop telling everyone who looked their way that MeiMei was her daughter. Her mother misunderstood what MeiMei said, thinking that MeiMei was ashamed of walking with her. This then caused MeiMei to tell her mother, If you want to show me off, then why don t you learn to play chess. When MeiMei had realized that what she said was wrong, she ran away from her mother. To MeiMei, her mother going around and telling everyone that MeiMei was her daughter was embarrassing because she didn t want her mom to use her as a source to gain popularity. In MeiMei s beliefs, her chess victories were her own accomplishments, one she should be the only one to use since she feels as though she gained them on her own. Her mother on the other hand, sees MeiMei s achievements as a victory for the whole family and is proud of her daughter. MeiMei misunderstands this, thinking her mother was just crediting herself for MeiMei s work and so runs off. This clash in values caused this incident. MeiMei s escape from her mother leads to a new conflict of MeiMei running away from her mom. It is stated in the text that MeiMei ran through the alleyways until she realized that she was running from nothing. After two hours, MeiMei returned home and her mother said, We not concerning this girl. This girl not have concerning for us. From this it can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The earliest 3D printing technologies first became visible in the late 1980 s. There are multiple different types of 3D printing technologies, which process different materials in unique ways to create the desired object. Since the emergence of 3D printing, developments and improvements to the process and the materials has greatly expanded the various applications. 3D printing was invented as a means of speeding up the early stages of product development, using simple material, and multiple applications. Before you read on let us first learn some basics about 3D printing, which will be explained later in greater detail. The starting point for any 3D printing process is a 3D digital model, which can be created using a variety of 3D software programs. The only limitations to 3D printing is the amount of material you have. The most common and recognized material would be plastics, Ex. PLA and ABS. When using plastics, the process is as follows: extruding the material in filament form through a heated extruder to form layers and create the predetermined shape. Because parts can be printed directly, it is possible to produce very detailed and intricate objects. As well as technology, there are multiple processes for 3D printing. The very first being Stereolithography (SL). SL is a very accurate laser based process that works with photopolymer resins (see picture one). Next is Digital Light Processing (DLP), which is similar to SL in the aspect of photopolymers. The only major difference/advantage between the two is that DLP only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This article is about how the global food price index is going down, and has fallen to its lowest level in the last four years. It is saying that a lot of different foods are getting cheaper like grains, vegetable oils, sugar, and dairy products. So that means that CPI should decrease now since a family will be spending less money on those products. The only place where the prices are not falling is in the meat industry especially in the beef industry. That is because the supply for beef was decreased after a drought made the suppliers want to decrease the size of the herd. That in turn caused the producers of the beef to have expectations that the future was going to be bleak for them. So they decided to not spend as much in their planned investments. Now because of these past decisions; when the market rebounded it the supply was down. Another plus in the market that is currently happening in the U.S. right now is that the food industry is having harvests of corn and soybean that will break the records in the overall production and yield per acre. This has caused the grain prices to fall by almost half. This makes the producers of pork, poultry, and beef very happy. Their PPI has gone down, so they are getting their things that they need to feed their animals cheaply. Then they are selling their animals at a very high rate, higher than normal ... Gene editing was named Science Magazine s Breakthrough of the Year 2015 due to its ease and high accessibility (ScienceDirect). It works by using CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) and Cas9 to make changes in the genes of cells. Francisco Mojica discovered CRISPR in 1993 at the University of Alicante in Spain (Broad Institute). It works by adding, changing or even removing DNA bases (Your Genome). Alexander Bolotin discovered Cas9 in 2005 at the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (Broad Institute). Cas9 is an enzyme that acts as a pair of molecular scissors that can cut two strands of DNA at a specific location in the genome so that bits of DNA can then be added or removed (YourGenome). The CRISPR Cas9 system has been used to correct genetic mutations and for replacing entire genes, opening up a world of possibilities for the treatment of genetic diseases (ScienceDirect). Direct democracy overall is a positive thing, but as with everything, there can be some dangers. Direct democracy is a form of democracy in which the people are able to vote and form consensus on policies directly. The people have the power of recall, which gives the public the power to remove elected officials from office before the end of their term if they do not feel they are doing a great job. California voters are also able to help make laws by creating ballot propositions. Propositions are ideas voters have for new laws or changes to the constitution. Direct democracy in California started in the early 1900 s, when many citizens in California were unhappy with the state government. The citizens then created a system of initiatives and referendums. • 26. Positive And Negative Effects Of Gender Stereotyping Throughout society there are many different cultural and social perceptions that allow people to form judgmental beliefs about society. Encompassed within these perceptions are stereotypes and prejudice. Stereotypes and prejudice are examples of categorizations of people which allow our brains to fill in the types or interactions that may happen with people. There are different positive and negative forms of stereo types and prejudice that effect our interaction with individuals resulting in judgmental affliction upon individuals or groups. This essay will analyze and provide examples of the positive and negative effects of gender stereotyping and prejudice. Stereotyping can come in many different forms and have many different subjects. One form of stereotyping is of gender. Just about everyone holds stereotypes of women and men some positive and some negative. Women are more empathic and talkative; men are more competent and aggressive. For example, are women really more empathic than men? Which women? Empathic toward whom? When women s and men s actual behavior is observed systematically under a variety of conditions, the sexes do not differ in having feelings of empathy or in its expression (book, p. 365). Social pressures influence how we conform to these stereotypes, however it does create a problem when people are victimized by the negative stereotypes of their gender or group. There are different connotations that can be identified when stereotyping: positive, women are better caregivers and men are better breadwinners or money makers. These positive connotations can be taken negative towards the other gender or even their own gender men can be caretakers too and women can make money. In the early 1900 s there was a high discrimination towards women, women entering the work force worked in factory lines, while men worked management which resulted in lower pay for women kept the men in charge. Over the years gender roles have taken a turn and there is now a significant increase with women working and taking on management roles. Roles in society are different between genders and those differences either positive or negative will hopefully diminish after time. Prejudice often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Defending Hard Determinism Against the Strongest Objections Raised Against It In this academic essay there will be a clear and defined description of both hard determinism and its eventual nemesis indeterminism. Based on these definitions there will be a personal attempt at denying hard determinism. This will be accomplished through the introduction of David Hume and his radical philosophy on causality and the relation this may have on hard determinism, as well as the various possibilities it may distinguish. Furthermore the Causal Principle will also be introduced and slandered in its incapability to provide a concrete defense for hard determinism and its potential in proposing a solution ... Necessary connection suggests that the common concept of causality is that the cause and the effect are necessarily connected that is that if the cause occurs, the effect must occur as well; the effect cannot but occur. (David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section 7) Hume suggests that this perception of Necessary connection is wrong and states the following: In considering the operation of causes, we are never able, in a single instance, to discover any power or necessary connection; any quality which binds the effect to the cause, and renders the one an infallible consequence of the other. We only find, that the one does actually, in fact follow the other. Consequently, there is not, in any single, particular instance of cause and effect, anything which can suggest the idea of power or necessary connection. (David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section 7) Hume further strengthens his claim by exerting that there are no objects which by the mere survey, without consulting experience, we can determine to be the cause of any other, and no objects, which we can certainly determine in the same manner not to be the causes. Did you hear that? stupid, proclaims Arthur Sylvester, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs (The Governments, 1). Those that reflect a low trust for the government and businesses have conjured various theories to explain where the government has failed to inform their nation with all of the information. With the government exempting themselves from telling their citizens thetruth, America has every right not to trust them. As people of a country founded on truth and justice, the citizens should open their eyes and not be blinded by the pretentious feeling of safety that the officials are trying to portray. Conspiracy Theorists have made many different theories to prove events where reality has been distorted. While some are false, some can be educated theories and proven right. We will be concerned with whether Abraham Lincoln succeeded in remaining indifferent and nonpartisan towards the South in his 2nd Inaugural Address. In what is considered one of the most distinguished Presidential commencement speeches on record, as well as the shortest in length at approximately 700 words, the Great Emancipator understood the Herculean task ahead of him in unifying the bisected country. Roughly six weeks before he is to be assassinated at Ford s Theater by John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln understood that in order to reunite America he could not glorify the North while simultaneously denigrating the South, as that would bring about harm and alienation to a recovery in which his aim was to bind up the nation s wounds (Dolbeare, pg. 277). With determination to reconstruct the devastated South and usher in a new chapter in America s history, the President succeeded when it came to not discerning between his beliefs, and those of the secessionists. A towering figure who stood 6 4 , our tallest President s use of Biblical quotes embodies a large portion of his 2nd Inauguration. It is evident that Lincoln is a man of tremendous spiritual faith, and one who postulates that the will of God purged the nation of the evil of slavery, albeit through a grim, prolonged, tumultuous battle. By not fixating on which side is at greater fault, Lincoln urged sympathy for citizens of the South, claiming that soldiers (and citizens alike) read the same Bible, and pray to the same God ( Dolbeare, pg. 277). By uttering the phrase care for him who shall have borne the battle, the President not only borrows from the Bible s James 1:27, but assures every American that they are now, officially, allied. He suggested that investors should choose portfolios and not individual shares. (http://www.riskglossary.com/link/portfolio_theory.htm). Portfolio Theory: Markowitz contribution showed that the benefits of diversification depend not just on risking individual assets but also on how the asset returns interact with each other, or the correlation between returns. E.g. A combination of investments in Umbrellas and Ice Creams will eliminate the risk of one another, i.e., the low returns from ice creams in rainy season will be compensated by the umbrella sales. High returns in one industry, in this case, always offset low returns in the other to give a positive return with certainty because returns on the two assets are inversely correlated. Risk of a portfolio (combination of shares) depends on the correlation between the expected return of every pair of shares in a portfolio. Correlation varies between +1 and 1. Thus a perfectly positively correlated portfolio would mean a +1 and a negatively correlated portfolio would mean 1. In a positively correlated portfolio the expected return would move in the same direction in the same proportion at all times, however in a negatively correlated portfolio the returns would move in the opposite direction (J Ogilvie B Koch 2002). The nominal interest rate, which refers to the price before adjustment to inflation, is the one visible to the consumer (i.e., the interest tagged in a loan contract, credit card statement, etc). Nominal interest is composed by the real interest rate plus inflation, among other factors. A simple formula for the nominal interest is: i = r + π Where i is the nominal interest, r is the real interest and π is inflation. Yujia Jiang May 1, 2016 GSAH220 Global Interactions and Identities Safoi Babana Hampton Communal Forgetfulness: How Memories Crowd Themselves Out of the Public Sphere Introduction Human history is full of major events. Great tragedies, heroic victories, and unlikely achievements all remain long after they have occurred, alive in the memory of the public and immortalized in histories and songs. Over time, though, the importance of different memories changes, and some memories are effectively crowded out of the public sphere of remembrance. In particular, tragic events that were perpetrated by a culture tend to fade out of that culture s consciousness to make way for more recent events. These events are not forgotten, but they are viewed through the lens of more recent events. The memories of different events build on each other when they share common themes, even when the events themselves are very different, which leads to a collective memory that is based on shared national or international history. Public Memory People tend to think of memories as a set of individual recollections of specific, chronological events. In reality, though, human memory is much more nuanced and complex than just the storage of data like might be stored on a computer hard drive. Memory is far more colored and far less accurate than simple data storage.
