Rawls Theory of Justice
The conventional accounts of Justice normally begin by stating a fundamental rule of Aristotle Justice
is to treat equals equally and unequals unequally, and that unequal treatment should be in proportion to
the inequality. In everyday life though, justice is seen as an attribute of law, while all laws are not
necessarily just. Many great socio political movements of the world have focused from time to time on
unjust laws eg Apartheid laws in South Africa and
Caste laws in India. Impartiality and fairness are understood to be the two aspects of justice. But it
would be misleading to suggest that Justice refers solely to the fair application of a rule. Some rules,
though fairly applied, may produce results repugnant to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rawls assumes that these hypothetical people would be conservative risk takers and in a situation of
uncertainty would opt for the least disadvantageous outcome in any choice presented to them and they
would choose those principles that would maximize the position of the worst off, for just in case they
should be the worst off.
The two principles of justice that such people choose are:
1. Each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a similar liberty
to others. 2. Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both
a) to the greatest benefit of the least advantages
b) attached to offices and positions open to all under conditions of fair equality and opportunity.
These principles are arranged by Rawls in a specific order and are subject to the priority rule, ie the
first principle has to always precede the second and 2a should always come before 2b. Rawls
commitment to equality, his passionate defense of liberty and his acceptance of inequality only when
it brings advantages to the least advantaged are the basic principles of his theory. Thus Rawls
advocates a constitutional democracy as the arrangement for upholding these principles. Although this
theory seems like a foolproof and universal arrangement in favour of justice and

Guinea Pigs Research Paper
Do you know facts about guinea pigs? I know they are rodents, and they need Vitamin C, they are
mammals, and they have black or brown eyes. I want to know what food they eat, what are the kinds
of guinea pigs, what do their sounds mean, and most of all, facts about albino guinea pigs.
Guinea pigs eat a lot of different kinds of food. Guinea pigs need to eat hay to digest their food. They
also need to eat little pellets. The only thing guinea pigs drink is water. Although guinea pigs don t
drink very much water. Guinea pigs love fresh fruits and vegetables, such as, carrots, kale, tomatoes,
celery, apples, cucumber, red or green peppers, broccoli, romaine lettuce, parsley, and pears. They also
eat things outside like dandelion leaves

The Concepts Of Nature, Humanity, Power And Love Lay As A...

Professor John Wang
English 170W
October 13, 2014
The concepts of nature, humanity, power and love lay as a foundation for Shakespeare s, King Lear.
These notions are examined through the actions and realizations of King Lear, himself. Throughout
the discourse of this play we view the portrayal of humans as animals and witness King Lear s
mistreatment after he gives away his power. When doing so he makes clear his view on love and its
value, solely based on the flattery of words.Through nature, King Lear becomes grounded and
recognizes the animalistic behaviors of the rich and the struggles of the poor. This recognition brings
him to an utmost discovery that presents the reality of vicious humanity and changes the way he views
the world. Nature plays the utmost largest role in this play. We can begin with the orating of nature
through Lear relinquishing his crown and dividing his power among his daughters. It is here that Lear
states his intentions to shake all cares and business from our age, (l.l.40) in order to unburthened crawl
towards death. (l.l.42) Although, it was not in the intentions of King Lear to wreak havoc on his
kingdom, he did so by relinquishing his crown. Therefore, subsequently leading his kingdom to an
ironic flow of catastrophic events. It was impossible for Lear to stop being king due to the fact that it
was his rightful position and he acknowledges this by stating:
Hear me, recreant! On thine allegiance, hear me!

The Evolution Of Early Human Migration
The vast early human migration could have been the starting point for what would eventually blossom
into the agricultural revolution, and the mutation that could have happened in the human brain has a
good chance of being the starting point of written language. At the time of early human migration,
humans still maintained their hunter gatherer mentality. This influenced early humans to constantly
move from one location to another in an effort to find more food. Possible mutations in the early
human brain could have been the beginning of organized groups of people as well as spoken language.
This brain mutation could have also influenced the development of technology allowing for early
humans to obtain more food more efficiently. Early humans

Amanda Wingfield Essay
Amanda Wingfield, in The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, is extremely self assured, devout
to the past, controlling, and delusional. She is faced with raising two children during the Great
Depression after being deserted by her husband and is keen on keeping her children close. This is
mainly due to the fact that she is still haunted by her husband leaving her. Unfortunately, she uses guilt
and criticism to manipulate her children to keep them close and control their lives. Amanda s browbeat
attitude and behavior is the reason she is forsaken by Mr. Wingfield, and is now swaying her son,
Tom, a similar way.
Amanda is extremely assertive, and not fearful when it comes to taking charge of a situation,
especially if the outcome benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amanda is crippling her children emotionally by continually critiquing every aspect of their lives,
such as their eating habits, career paths, social behaviors, how they should dress, talk, and entertain.
She insists Tom is far too much like his father, and believes his actions are prohibiting him from being
a man of success; believing that harassing him to behave to her expectations will matter and generate a
real change. Tom is smothered by her constant critique of his character, saying she is reminded of Mr.
Wingfield more and more each day due to Tom s unsuitable behavior. Amanda sees Tom as the main
conflict in finding Laura an acceptable suitor. After her persistent badgering, Tom eventually brings
home Jim, a co worker, for dinner as a potential suitor for Laura in scene seven. Jim accidently breaks
off the horn of Laura s glass unicorn, making it appear like one of the other horses in her collection.
This is symbolic for the fact that Amanda sees Laura as the same as the rest of the women, and doesn t
see her as a unicorn unique. Laura, unfortunately, is psychologically damaged by her mother s
assumptions and constant critiques about how women should behave. Among her other beliefs are
whom women should marry, what types of chores they should perform, and how they should spend
their lives. Amanda refuses to see Laura as her own

Evolution Of The Modern Day Human Essay
The modern day human has not existed for very long, in fact its one of the recent species to populate
the Earth. Before modern day humans or Homo sapiens sapiens as we are scientifically known as,
existed a similar yet less developed Homo genus named Homo erectus/ Homo ergaster. Evidence of
these species dates back to over 1.9 million years ago and up to as recently as 70,000 years ago in
which the evidence can be found in Africa, Europe and Asia. In this essay I will firstly provide a
general timeline, providing key dates and phases of evolution. I will then discuss my findings from the
research I have collected as well as information provided by expert insights and discoveries. I will
explain the cause for the expansion from Africa to Europe and Asia and lastly I will elaborate on the
established branches of Homo erectus and how the different Homo genus came to exist.
Timeline
The Homo genus dates back almost three million years. The Homo habilis species was the first in the
Homo genus and is believed to have initially developed 2.8 mya (million years ago) in East Africa
before becoming extinct 1.5 mya. This occurred during the Lower Paleolithic period (2.7 mya 200
kya) in which the very first stone tools were created and mastered named the Oldowan stone industry.
H. habilis were the first fully bipedial species which allowed them to travel further than their
quadrupedial ancestors. Having covered most of Africa, the H. habilis was then able to manufacture

The Issues Of Urban Poverty
American life was transformed in the 1960s from the start of the decade. The 1960s consisted of new
rights and new understandings of freedom. The sixties consisted of rights for racial minorities to be
involved in the mainstream of the American lifestyle. However, unsolved issues of urban poverty still
existed. Women in the 1960s established a conversion in women s status, for instance, women entered
the paid workforce. America experienced a growth of conservative movements, consequently, the
1960s would confront judgment for social ill, crime and drug abuse and drug abuse as well as decline
respect towards authority. In despite of crisis, America became a tolerant nation. The sixties are known
as a decade of drastic change, rebellion, and backlash. Also, for the American individuals that came of
age during the sixties, the generation known as the Baby Boomers, wanted to change the culture of
their parents. Terry Anderson and Peter Clecak both present different judgment of the social activism
of the 1960s. Terry H. Anderson, from the The Sea Change, implied that the sixties achieved a positive
transformation within politics, society culture, and foreign power. Anderson believed that America
became more democratic as well as comprehensive. (361) On the contrary, Peter Clecak, from The
New Left, argued that radicals failed to revolutionize in the sixties and additionally became powerless
against the dominant social order. (361) Although certain Americans opposed and judged

Morality And Ethics Of The Auschwitz And Art Spiegelman s...
Morality is adaptable in extreme situations. The Holocaust is an example of what happens to one s
morality when forced to adapt to animalistic behavior in order to survive. Life in Auschwitz required a
purging of one s human dignity for survival. Prisoners were constantly exposed to perpetual
dehumanization, which inevitably led to the dehumanization, and restoration of one s mental, physical,
and social adaptation. Because of this, one s morality begins to erase. It is in the adaptation of living in
a merciless world that the line separating right and wrong begins to blur. Primo Levi s Survival in
Auschwitz and Art Spiegelman s Maus, both represent how morality and ethics are challenged in the
means of survival.
Man is bound to pursue his own ends by all possible means, while he who errs but once pays dearly.
(Levi 1.3). In one short sentence, Levi sums up the situation: its human nature to use any means
necessary to survive. And that s exactly what happens in the camp. There are many in the camps who
are not able to cope with its horrible circumstances. Unfortunately, those who are unable to cope result
in animalistic behavior. When being exposed to inhumane conditions, one begins to act inhumane.
Null is an example of one who regresses into an unconscious state of being. Levi presents Null as an
example of one who has resulted in doing anything and everything to survive. Levi recounts, when he
speaks, when he looks around, he gives the impression of being empty

Democracy Vs Democracy
Many different ideologies have been practiced throughout history and many have failed to work. The
ideology that I think has created the most success for the government and its people is democracy. The
definition of democracy is a political system of mass participation, competitive elections, and human
and civil rights (Roskin 88). This is the clear definition of democracy, but there are many different
forms for example there is a representative democracy and illiberal democracy. These follow the same
guideline of democracy, but have there own individual definition. Unfortunately, there is no perfect
form of because for the to happen you would have to have perfect human beings. The democracy we
have in the United States is far from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The winner would be determined by popular vote because it make things less complicated. After the
people vote the candidate in they would then be able to vote on certain issues they would like the
government to fix or get rid of. The voting would be direct because then the people would be voting
on exactly what they want. The indirect way of voting allows for the people in power to manipulate
the issue to the benefit of the government and that s not they it should be. The government would
control all of the international business that doesn t directly affect the people in my country. The
government would also be allowed to declare war if the people s safety is put in immediate danger.
They would have this power because if the country is being threatened there wouldn t be time to vote
on the issue. This ideology wouldn t be necessarily all right wing, but probably in between middle and
right on the spectrum. The people don t have total control over the government, but majority of the
power is with the people because the idea that government needs total control has created societies not
so favorable for the people.
In nation building the first obstacle in nation building is identity crisis. This is when people do not
consider themselves to be apart of a nation. Many countries in Africa today have tribes that do not
consider themselves to be apart of a nation. The tribes have their own language

want what we may call simple pleasure such as spending time with their family eating candies...
However, raw material such as cooking oil, eggs, etc increased since 2011 and this may affect the

PROCEDURE: You must first determine to which of the three groups the various anions belong. Since
no two people observe the same event in exactly the same way it is important to also conduct specific
confirmation tests on the known samples of each anion. This information will help identify the anion

The American Constitution Essay

Political Science 300: The American Constitution
12/01/2016
Marijuana
Throughout the history of the republic, there has been controversy between state and federal power.
The state and federal power has been an ongoing dilemma regarding the separation of powers since
the beginning of the constitution. An issue was brought to the Supreme Court of the United States
(SCOTOS) that could change the future of upcoming court cases. There has been question whether the
Constitution grants certain laws as void or not. Others question whether the Constitution should
evolve, concurrent as the United States has evolved since the establishment of the constitution.
Colorado passed the legalization of marijuana in 2012 (The Controlled Substance Act (CSA):
Overview). Nebraska and Oklahoma challenged Colorado s legalization of recreational marijuana for
over stepping their state power (Nebraska and Oklahoma v. Colorado). Because of the impact that this
case could have on upcoming cases, the Supreme Court refused to hear the case under Art. III sec. two
of the Constitutions, which elaborates on their original jurisdiction (Nebraska and Oklahoma v.
Colorado). Upon the refusal of SCOTOS to hear Nebraska s and Oklahoma s challenge on Colorado s
legalization of marijuana, the federal court will support the states challenge due to Colorado s
violation of the controlled substance act, Colorado over stepping its 10th amendment rights, and
Colorado s attempt to regulate a

Muscle Soreness Essay
Muscle Soreness Nearly anyone who works out regularly has experienced sore muscles after exercise.
Sometimes you will feel it later that night, or the next morning and in some cases, you may actually
think you are out of the woods, only to wake up two days later with stiff, tender muscles that feel as
tight as rubber bands. For some people, sore muscles are a reward after a hard workout. In fact, some
people are not happy unless they are sore after their workout, while others could live without it. Either
way, all of us have probably experienced muscle soreness at one time or another. There are two types
of exercise related muscle soreness. Immediate muscle soreness or acute muscle soreness quickly

According to Richard Weil, Med, CDE, the answer is swelling in the muscle compartment that result
from an influx of white blood cells, which are anti inflammatory, and other nutrients and fluids that
flow to the muscle to repair the damage after a tough workout. The type of muscle referred to is
microscopic and is part of the normal process of growth in the body called anabolism. It is not the type
of damage or injury that you see your doctor about. The swelling and inflammation can build up for
days after a workout, and that is why muscle soreness may be worse two , three, or three or even four
days after a workout for muscles to heal completely depending on the intensity of the workout. Muscle
soreness can be prevented with some measure taken. Start exercise program slowly and exercise for a
short time only. Increase your activity a little each day until personal goal is reach. Once an individual
has experienced delayed muscle soreness at specific exercise intensity, he or she shouldn t encounter
that sensation again until the intensity level is increased. This is because muscle soreness has been
shown to produce a rapid adaptation response, which means that the muscles adapt to a given exercise
intensity level. Unless the exercise intensity level is changed, soreness will not occur. Base on how
much intensity level as individual increase the recommended approach to preventing delayed muscle
soreness are as follows; gradual progression and conservative increases in

The Analects Books I V I ve Had An Open Mind
While reading The Analects books I V I ve had an open mind while reading the books. When I say an
open mind I mean I was reading the books hoping and considering to learn. I did not know a lot about
Analects before reading the books. I ve found the topic of these books to be quite interesting. In my
opinion, The Analects is an assortment of sayings and ideas credited to the great philosopher
Confucius. The Analects were more than likely written between 30 50 year time span. The
organization of chapters seems disorganized because they are dealing with subjects that are in no way
connected.
While reading book one I ve came to the conclusion that the text excerpts in this chapter introduces
two of the basic themes of work. The first theme that I prefer the most is what qualities are desirable
in a human being. This one is important to me because in today s world I question this every day. I
wonder what are all the qualities a human being can have and why don t everyone have the same
qualities. The second theme is how morality can be reflected in one s behavior. The story soon shifts
to matters involving family and the government. During this course, with every new religion it seems
like they are big on family. Since we are on the topic of family, the text seems to take on the issue of
filial piety. Filial piety means refers to the virtue of respect for one s parents or ancestors. Book two
focuses more on the matter of government. I say that because at the beginning of book

What Are Some Important Lessons From Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most destructive weather disasters in United States history. It
destroyed homes and property, and killed and injured thousands of people. It also highlighted the poor
emergency response to a natural disaster by the state and federal governments. Many American
citizens believed that the government response was ineffective and inefficient. The government
response provided many opportunities to learn lessons and become better at responding to natural
disasters in the future. Citizens hope that their government have learned lessons and implemented
changes so that future disasters do not result in significant loss of life and property. According to
Waugh (2007), the biggest lesson learned was the nation s emergency management system is broken,
and that officials need to rebuild local, state, and regional capacities to reduce hazards and respond to
disasters (4). After September 11, 2001, American emergency managers were ... Show more content

for the well being of their citizens. According to Waugh (2007), at a minimum, officials must (1)

communities; (3) identify steps that can be taken to mitigate the hazards; and (4) on the basis of risk

The lack of preparation by the city, state, and federal governments was apparent at the New Orleans

Born in Italy in 1364 but relocating to Paris, France a few years after, Christine de Pizan wrote her
literary work in the French vernacular. She was on her way to becoming a skillful scholar as a child
with a high intellectual interest and as a part of the royal court of Charles V, she had many learning
opportunities, Christine was exposed to a wide range of experiences that she apparently used to her
full advantage (Birk 17). Her most significant work was her involvement in the querelle des femmes
(the women s quarrel), in which she participated in a years long debate known as the Debate on the

believing those male scholars, but also in helping Christine built the city that will be inhabited by the
ladies. Christine uses this tidbit of believing the men as her driving force to showcase how important it
is for people to recognize that the misogynistic writings are an issue that many fall in line with
because of the trust in noble scholars. Her intentions in creating this city is to protect those virtuous
and favorable women from the negative reputation that has beseeched them. The city is a safe haven

The Similarities Between Bollywood And Silent Movies
Bollywood and Silent movies are distinct by their names and styles within each movie. They are
known to be the most popular back in the old days. Bollywood was, and is famous in India, whereas
Silent movies were once a huge boom in Hollywood. Each movie s music play a significant role, or
portray an important theme for the viewers. These two genres of movie have similarities, as well as
differences that make them somehow dissimilar but somehow close to each other. Bollywood, an

two is the dynamics. For the Bollywood, the music is on Forte everytime, loud and strong with the

overall awe of the bridge. During one of our passing on the bridge, we were able to make a quick stop

Furthermore, the government is willing to make the country more liberal. In this intent, Brazil is a part
of the Common Market of the South, Mercosur which has founded Common External Tariffs (CET)
for Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, concerning a growing number of products. In the
geographic area of Mercosur, the tariffs are also eliminated, and factors of production (labour or
capital for example) can move freely. These CET apply for equipment goods at rates included between
0% and 14%[ http://www.septimanie export.com/fr/fiches pays/bresil/acces au marche] (numbers
given for the tariffs applied on the CIF[ Cost Insurance Freight] price of goods). This is a big
opportunity for Ikea, because reduced tariffs would reduce prices on their imports to Brazil if they set
up one or more outlets there.
There doesn t seem to have a special law limiting the size for big stores, which quite goes in the right
way for Ikea.

Essay about Shakespeare s Manipulation of History Through...
In some of William Shakespeare s most famous works, he deviates from the historical truth to create
the final product of his works. He does this to please loyalty, as well as appeal to his audience at the
time. At the same time, Shakespeare also does this to help create a stronger bond between the reader
and the characters. To satisfy this, he implements many fictional pieces to his famous works. Macbeth
was one of these works as he wrote this in 1606 to honor James I becoming the king of England. To
please him, he altered many features of characters, as well as add in fictional characters. This changed
the plot of the story greatly, making it very different from the story Shakespeare bases it off of. In
addition, The Tragedy of Julius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to a scene where a long line of Banquo s descendants would rule forever. He wrote this scene
to please James I, giving him the fantasy that all of his descendants would rule until the end of the
world. Another piece that he adds into the story are the Weird Sisters. These figures are meant to
throw Macbeth around, as they try to make him overconfident, so this will alter the way he handles
himself. Shakespeare very well could ve added in these characters to make the story more cohesive, as
the witches warn him Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane
Hill (Macbeth 127). Following this, towards the end of the play, Macbeth sees an illusion of many
moving trees (men holding branches) moving toward Dunsinane. This makes the play seem more
cohesive, as well as provide humor for the audience. In addition to this, James was also a believer and
a respected authority on witches. In 1599, he even wrote of witchcraft in his book Daemonologie.
Even to this day, this book still rivals in popularity with Shakespeare s other works. Shakespeare also
made changes to Macbeth s character and persona in the story. In the story he bases it off of, Macbeth
is more of a one dimensional character who served for the king of Scotland for ten years. In the real
story, he shows a lot more emotion, as shown through his constant change of feelings from guilt, to
remorse, etc. Shakespeare most likely added this in to

The Third Man
CARITA MARSILI
The Third Man (Reed, 1949) encompasses the notion that art is a derivative of pain, and is most
successful when the audience is overwhelmed with a state of lamenting sadness. Through variance in
narrative, form and tone, The Third Man reaches audiences critical understanding of art, and
challenges it in devious ways.
The style of the film takes on a classic film noir, depicting the rubbles of Vienna post war. This world
is reflexive of the theme that art is derived from pain. An American author, Holly Martins, arrives to
Vienna with hopes of meeting with his friend and finding literary inspiration, but inevitably finds a
world of despair. His friend has been mysteriously killed in a car crash and he must find out the truth.
With high key lighting, gorgeous depictions of Vienna post war, and an excessive use of Dutch angles,
a beautiful apprehension is strongly depicted throughout the film. The film consequently uses its
location as a representation for uneasiness. The final scene of the film takes place on a hunt for Harry
Lime in the sewers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through his unanimous connection with all the characters involved, Martins becomes our passive
narrator throughout the entirety of the film. Although he is a traditional archetype; a drunken writer,
who falls in love with a girl who is too hung up on another man that s all he is. His development is
flat, and he seems to have a connection to every single character in the story without withholding too
much of a bias. He just makes the right decisions nearly every time, and keeps trying to do the right
thing although it doesn t always work out for him. He glides us throughout the story, and trips over the
traps to set the right plot points but he isn t interesting. What is interesting is the surrounding pain and
anguish around him. Which in turn allows audiences to question why pain is more enticing than

Government Greed Oil, stockholders, drama, racism, government and death are all words that come to
mind when the Case Study of Caltrex are exposed. This controversy that occurred was one of the most
horrific yet historic events in our pastime. This showed many examples of how management of
companies has the responsibilities beyond normal duties to ensure a high return for stockholders.
Investments should always carry high criteria before making the investment because people s

This is racism in its finest and management should not be held responsible for the practices of the
corporate people involved. This was a completely different situation then we have in most businesses
today. They were angered because the black workers had special responsibilities and due to the white
nation laws that were in effect they did not like it. Management has a job to do regardless if others
disagree and even though the people that invested their money in this company were outraged it was
not managements fault. The ethics practiced in this case are an ethic of care and ethic of virtue but in
all reality this is completely based on race which is why we have laws against that today. In theory the
stockholders believed that management was to blame but in reality they were simply doing their job to
provide for their own families. At my job today there are many controversial issues that arise however
I have no opinion to act on them. There are laws and regulations that are set in place that I am
expected to follow and if I do not then I could lose my job. The moral reasoning behind it may not be
positive but it is what it is and management has specific goals and money involved that are outside the
moral actions of a person. Caltex s multinational workforce faced a major challenge in providing the

Rapa Nui And The Statue Of Easter Island
Easter Island was one of the last places on the Earth colonized by humans, representing the
culmination of the journey that people started when they left Africa. The history of this isolated
Pacific Ocean island offers many lessons about humanity, and a better understanding of this
mysterious place could help us build a better future. Jared Diamond, in an article from Discover
Magazine, expresses the theory of individuals going to take after what occurred with Easter Island. In
a short period of time, the people of Easter Island cut their forest, got their plants and animals to
extinction, and created chaos and cannibalism. The most important factor, according to Diamond, is
the reaction of society to ecological change. There is something more significant about this island with
two names, excepting the fact that the archipelago is in the middle of the ocean and has volcanoes,
found all over the small island are statues of enormous heads. Researchers have identified 887 of these
giant head statues. The statues are named Moai. The ancient Rapa Nui people carved these statues out
of volcanic rocks. Over time, the researchers have launched various assumptions about the mysterious
purpose of the Rapa Nui statue. Some have argued that these are the artistic representations of some
gods, others have launched fantastic theories that they were inspired by aliens. The clues that allowed
this mystery to come loose came from the language spoken on Rapa Nui. Scientists have long believed
that the inhabitants of the Easter Island have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role Of Physicians And Osteopathic Physicians
There are two kinds of physicians that practice in the United States; they are allopathic physicians and
osteopathic physicians. They are very similar in the ways that they both can diagnosis and treat
illnesses and provide preventive care to patients. Both physicians may even practice medicine in
similar ways today, since their training is almost identical to one another. Allopathic and osteopathic
doctors can both prescribe medicine, perform surgery and can practice in specialty areas such as
critical care or emergency medicine (Indiana College, 2007). There are many things that cause people
to want to be a physician, such as helping others, job security and the interest of researching.

Unlike osteopathic they view a person as a diseased or injured body or organ and try to fix that. They
believe that whatever illness the person has can be cured or help relieve symptoms by either surgery or
medication. For example when someone has a headache or is constipated, the physician will order a
medication to be administered to relieve their pain. There have been many helpful procedures that are
used now thanks to allopathic physicians and medicine, such as hip replacement, chemotherapy and
insulin for diabetics. These physicians work best in emergency or acute situations which is referred to
as interventional medicine. Allopathic physicians try to stay away from alternative medicine such as
homeopathy and naturopathy. When tested on their attitudes allopathic doctors tested as more
technical oriented which means that they prefer to use scientific thinking for purposes. Osteopathic
medicine, abbreviated D.O., as defined by Webster as a therapeutic system originally based upon the
premise that manipulation of the muscles and bones to promote structural integrity could restore or
preserve health. Osteopathic medicine was founded by A.T. Still, a medical doctor who believed that
the current medical practices seemed to be doing more harm than good to the patients. He developed a
system of care that would promote the body s ability to heal itself. Osteopathic physicians are trained

Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey Essay
hough women play a central role in The Odyssey written by famous author Homer the portrayal and
characterization of said women highlights the negative portrayal of women at the time as well as
shows double standards that still plague our society today. All of the women are characterized with
few traits, most of which only describe their looks, while the reader is constantly reminded of all of
Odysseus good traits, most of which have nothing to do with his looks. Even Penelope, who is
portrayed as the ideal woman, is only ever described as beautiful and faithful . Sadly, this sexism is
reflected in the Ancient Greek s patriarchal society in which women were considered the property of
men and they were married off with or without consent at very young ages. Women play a central role
in the Odyssey, yet due to the Ancient Greek s society prejudices the women are written in a way that
clearly highlights the double standards of society and the way men used to portray women. In the
society of Ancient Greece women were never in charge of their own decisions and often had little to
no say in them and were often married at young ages and were judged, not by her own achievements,
but by their looks, and the wealth and status of their fathers or husbands. Even Penelope seems to
acknowledge this when she says My looks, my face, my carriage, were soon faded or lost. knowing
that is what the people of the Ancient Greek society judged people on. After Odysseus is presumed

Analysis Of The Legendary Legend
Really it depends on belief and religion. For example, if you re a Christian, then the belief is that the
prickly leaves represent the crown of thorns Jesus wore when he was crucified. The berries represent
the blood that he shed, because of the crown of thorns. I know that s the right one but since I like to
make up my own stuff that s not how it goes in this story. Once there was a girl and a boy. The boy s
name so Chucky. The girl s name I d Carrie. They were extremely good friends. More than friends,
best friends. One day Chucky and Carrie were out in the woods. The woods of The Legendary
Legend. There was an old legend about these woods. A boy and girl, Chucky and Carrie were best
friends, they went to the woods every day after school. It s supposed to be haunted by some weird evil
ghost. Chucky and Carrie didn t believe it though. They wanted some proof. That s why they went
there everyday after school, for some proof. There was something that Chucky was always hiding
from Carrie, even in the beginning. He had strong feelings for Carrie, that Carrie never knew about.
Carrie didn t quite feel the same way. She had a secret boyfriend that Chucky didn t know about. After
a while, they sat alone on a rock to rest after about a five mile hike or so. Hey, Carrie, Chucky says in

Humor And Its Relationship With Positive Life Outcomes
Humor has been said to play a large role in our everyday lives, including having an impact on ones
well being; mainly influencing their level of self esteem. Humor is often seen as a coping mechanism
for dealing with stressful events throughout a person s lifetime (Stieger, Formann, Burger, 2011). For
some time there has been the circulating idea that humor is directly related to positive life outcomes,
but has been supported with very limited empirical evidence (Vaughan, Zeigler Hill, Arnau, 2014).
This view is often encrypted in the minds of general society because of the constant use of jokes and
sayings that acknowledge the use of humor as a way to deal with life s current circumstances; using
humor as a means to cope (Leist Müller, 2013). The problem with this view is that it does not consider
that there are multiple styles of humor that can affect its relationship with positive life outcomes
(Vaughan et al., 2014). Contemporary research suggests that sense of humor is a multidimensional
personality construct consisting of both [two] adaptive and [two] maladaptive styles (Kirsh, 2005).
Based on this prior research there are four distinct styles of humor which are defined as being a person
s habitual conduct or use of humor in daily life, that is his or her typical stable pattern of humor
behaviours and attitudes (Beermann, 2014). The two adaptive styles are: (1) self enhancing humor,
which is the use of personal humor to make oneself laugh and uplift your

The Mission Of Carbon Offsets
Our Mission The mission of Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty (COTAP) is to empower individuals
and organizations in developed countries to address both climate change and global poverty. COTAP
counteracts your carbon emissions through certified forestry projects in least developed regions which
create transparent, accountable, and life changing earnings for rural farming communities where
income levels are less than $2 per day. The Problem In developing regions around the world, hundreds
of millions of people live in rural areas on less than $2 per day. This level of poverty forces
communities to make hard choices between food, health care, and education. It is the poverty level
where an estimated 11 million children die every year. Many of these communities are not fits for
traditional microfinance, which tends to be primarily urban, and significant portions of their land are
not suitable for agriculture. While there are many promising technical innovations and development
programs which can increase crop yields, there remains a geographic limitation on markets where
such increased yields can be sold. The result is that there are farming communities all over the world
who could be made much less economically vulnerable if there were a way to generate significant
supplemental income from non crop land usage which did not rely on physical distribution. The

The Window In Peter Quint s The Turn Of The Screw
Windows in The Turn of the Screw are in two instances the invisible boundary separating the
governess from ghosts. The governess sees Peter Quint twice through a window, once when she is
inside and once outside of the house. Miles looks through windows several times, intently focused on
what the governess thinks appears to be a ghost. A sighting of Peter Quint through a window is also a
catalyst for Miles s death.
It is no coincidence that these events happen at windows. The story is, at least in part, about
boundaries that like windows at once divide and connect people to each other. Windows also allow a
person to see the outside world but in a vacuum, meaning that the person looking out is losing some

Hot Tubs Research Paper
Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury, Coco Chanel (n.d.) once said. Nothing
describes this quote quite like the soothing hot tub. The steaming water, the bubbling frame, or
perhaps just the sheer cost in installation give the hot tub such a luxurious connotation. In the movies,
bliss is often pictured as some bare chested man, wearing gold chains galore, arms around two
bikinied blondes, that is lounging in a massive hot tub. Even on a less grand scale, it is always quite a
mark of rank for a middle class household to have possession of such a comfort as a Jacuzzi. When
mentioned, one can just feel a warm massage from little jets spurting out water all around your body.

In fact, I have only experienced the luxury of hot tubs only a few times in my life. Living in Phoenix,
where heat is already the de facto temperature, owning a hot tub is often less than desirable.
Phoenicians do not need a Jacuzzi because we can get wet and toasty just by perspiring when we walk
outside. However, when my family and I travel to another state, there is sometimes a Jacuzzi at the
place we stay. So, while in a more favorable climate than in Arizona, my family always takes
advantage of getting into the spa. Entering a hot tub is always memorable: one foot in hot to the touch;
slide into the pool uncomfortable, at first; but, wait a moment the coziest sensation there could be.
Relaxing in the tub is always a communal opportunity. My father discusses something with my
mother. My older sister adds her two cents to the conversation, and my brother and I comment when
appropriate. It becomes as pleasant a discourse as if we were having supper around the dinner table. It
is always a lovely time. If there is a swimming pool nearby, my dad likes to jump in it after leaving the
Jacuzzi. My mom and my sister do not understand why, but it is a strangely incredible feeling. The
warmth on your body from the hot tub ecstatically contrasts upon impact with the coolness of the
swimming pool as you jump into it. I feel like it is what happens when molten lava, flowing down a
volcano, hits a cold ocean tide. It is quite a strange sensation, but it is rather exhilarating, as well.
Overall, bathing in hot tubs has been a very rare occurrence in my life. However, I can say, upon
recollection, that there is one word that consistently describes all those experiences: family.
Conversing with one another across the bath is easy due a hot tub s round nature. Chilling, per say,
together during a common relaxing bath brings such an interpersonal sense of fellowship. Concluding,

carat weight. It is ideal if you like the look of a round, but desire a more unique look. Ovals can vary
in degree of how narrow or fat they are and the elongated shape can make the finger appear longer or
slimmer. Evaluating color and clarity of the oval is subjective, so when choosing this cut you may find
it to be less optimal than all of the others.
The Pear
A combination of the round and marquis cuts; the pear is unique in that it is worn with the point
toward the hand so that when shown to an admirer it has the appearance of, well, a pear. It s ideal
appearance should be that of excellent symmetry where the point lines up with the apex of the rounded
end. Color and clarity, here are also subjective and the point of larger pears may seam darker than the

Character Analysis Of Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin
Character Analysis: A Raisin in the Sun The play A Raisin In the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry is a
classic, revolutionary play written in the times of segregation and discrimination of skin tones.
Throughout the story, the Youngers display how they are just like an ordinary family; everybody has
their own special personality. This caused many conflicts when it was time to decide what to do with
the check coming in the mail for ten thousand dollars. Walter Lee Younger, the son and oldest child of
mama, was very passionate about the idea of using the money to open his own liquor store. His
different personality traits take over and create him into a bossy man of the house. A little background
information about Walter is he is around his mid thirties. He is sister to Beneatha, married to Ruth, and
has a son by the name of Travis. Water Lee has the personality of a hustler. In this case, hustler is
defined by someone who will do anything whether illegal, the best for the community, or gamble, just
to get a dollar; in addition will stop at nothing to get what they want. Even though this play was
written in the 60s, Walter still has the demeanor of many African American males today in their
twenties who are trying to create a hustle. The only problem is Walter has the mental of a hustler but
fails to execute the product of a hustler which is money. He is ambitious about getting out his family
out of poverty but doesn t know how to quite do it. When this opportunity with

George Herring S Article The Legacy Of Vietnam Talks
George Herring s article The legacy of Vietnam talks about the military clash between the communist
North Vietnam, backed by its allies and the government of South Vietnam, backed by the United
States and other countries that are anti communist that happened in Vietnam during Richard Nixon s
presidency. The Vietnam War was a terrible war, especially for Vietnamese because a millions of them
died during the war. The author not just describes the war itself; he also analyzes the killing and the
attack that occurred during the war. In general the Vietnam War was the most costly war contrast to
other wars and it was the most shocking eras in American history. The Vietnam War had an impact in
American history. It brought fear from the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He tried his best not to lose the war because he does not want American war to be the loser. The
United States troops were completely pulled back from Vietnam before the finish of March of 1973,
yet America continued battling in Cambodia. North Vietnam did not respond to US notices and before
the year s over Nixon stayed weak after Watergate. In his article, the author said that Nixon tried to
protect the Thieu administration in South Vietnam and let South Vietnam on the safe side because he
needed the Thieu government to be secure. North Vietnam needed to have a unity but South Vietnam
strived to be a free country. Nixon s mission was to help and support the nations that are US partners
such as South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, but other nations would need to shield themselves from
the communism. When Nixon attempted to stay faithful to his obligation to the Thieu government in
South Vietnam, Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger needed to proceed onward to different United
State interests gradually. The purpose for these spending is to secure the Thieu government in South
Vietnam. In his article, the author said that Nixon s administration shows how much Kissinger feel
afraid from the Negotiations that are full of twists. Despite the hostility between United State and
North Vietnam, Nixon still threatening them that he doesn t want to pay the amount if they do not
want to adhere to the guarantee of the understanding, but when Richard Nixon resigned, the

One Of The Most Significant Characteristics Of Tantra
One of the most significant characteristics of TANTRA (origin 5th century CE) is the fact that it does
not require the ordinary householder to renounce the world by giving up our body, our family, our
material possessions, our job, even our pleasures. Instead it accentuates personal experimentation and
experience as a way to improve/advance on the path of Self realization without having to become a
monk or swami. TANTRA breaks new yoga because it was/is available for everyone without any type
of discrimination. TANTRA rejected the classical patriarchal cast system and exclusive Brahmanic
orthodoxy in which only men and higher cast where suitable for the practice. TANTRA is all
inclusive. TANTRA does not exclude social classes, gender, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is through this precious human life and birth that we can free ourselves from ignorance and see how
things really exist. From Sanskrit: TAN = To expand, TRA= tool, instrument. TANTRA can be seen as
a technology or tool for expansion of consciousness and alertness. TANTRA does not reject our
objects of attachment or life conditions, but transforms how we relate to them. This is what makes this
practice so compelling today. For example, our inner attitude towards money doesn t have anything to
do with the money we have. Under TANTRA s view, there is nothing wrong about having money or
enjoying life, or being tall/short, or fat/thin, or being married/single, or being employed/unemployed..,
but whatever the circumstances, the attitude should be of detachment and equanimity, then a sense of
freedom arises. So the world and our conditions become an ally instead of a hindrance in our spiritual
development. In TANTRA there are two realities; SHIVA and SHAKTI, SHIVA representing the total
matter or the absolute and SHAKTI representing the total energy or creative power. In TANTRA all
reality can be divided on what we can see (visvamaya) and what is beyond (visvottirna). To
experience the ultimate reality we need to dissolve the notion of duality in our consciousness. We need
to become one from two.

Gabriel Conroy Paralysis
The story starts off enlightening the reader where the paralysis had begun, by explaining the Morkan s
grandfather and the circling around the King William statue allows the reader to understand the
importance to why the repetitiveness began, the symbol paralysis probably caused the defeated battle
of the Irish to remain. The story shows paralysis at the party that is given by the Morkan s every year
their repetitiveness that is demonstrated by the same people and their duties. How the people are going
to act and Gabriel s speech that is expected, the paralysis could also represent the dead, too paralyze to
change. Since the snow is representing the living and the dead Gabriel Conroy worries about what
people think of him and it affects him, causing him to have trouble living. Like Gabriel there are other
s who are also afraid of living. I add Michael Furey because he is an important mention in the story
because of the type of life he lived a man who looked back at his life and was filled with it, not a
waste when he died. I think the snow made it difficult to see through the people who are really living
and who are walking in a vegetative mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the snow representation was important because it seem to be universal; it brings the dead and
living parallel with each other. The snow covered Ireland entirely; the snow was covering the people
of Ireland the ones who were living and who were dead in spirit, with life. I believe the snow falling
over all Ireland and the universe as a metaphor. Since snow represent death I think the snow falling
over all Ireland means death has fallen on the people of Ireland because they are not living they are
repetitive in everything they do afraid to shine they have been placde in a paralysis

Informative Essay On Sun Exposure
Sun exposure is an inevitable thing, however, it is something our body needs. In today s society being
tan is seen as a fad. Tanning is the process of darkening the skin by sun exposure. Most people want to
be tan and go tanning frequently whether actually sitting out in the sun, going to the tanning bed, or
even getting a spray tan. Sun exposure is a good thing, however, too much exposure can have not so
great effects on your body. Sun exposure is very important for the body because it is how the body
gets vitamin D. Vitamin D actually classifies loosely as a hormone. When you are getting exposure to
the sun, the ultraviolet rays shine on your skin triggering vitamin D synthesis. Then the precursor
compound in skin cells is transported by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Rawls Theory of Justice The conventional accounts of Justice normally begin by stating a fundamental rule of Aristotle Justice is to treat equals equally and unequals unequally, and that unequal treatment should be in proportion to the inequality. In everyday life though, justice is seen as an attribute of law, while all laws are not necessarily just. Many great socio political movements of the world have focused from time to time on unjust laws eg Apartheid laws in South Africa and Caste laws in India. Impartiality and fairness are understood to be the two aspects of justice. But it would be misleading to suggest that Justice refers solely to the fair application of a rule. Some rules, though fairly applied, may produce results repugnant to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rawls assumes that these hypothetical people would be conservative risk takers and in a situation of uncertainty would opt for the least disadvantageous outcome in any choice presented to them and they would choose those principles that would maximize the position of the worst off, for just in case they should be the worst off. The two principles of justice that such people choose are: 1. Each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a similar liberty to others. 2. Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both a) to the greatest benefit of the least advantages b) attached to offices and positions open to all under conditions of fair equality and opportunity. These principles are arranged by Rawls in a specific order and are subject to the priority rule, ie the first principle has to always precede the second and 2a should always come before 2b. Rawls commitment to equality, his passionate defense of liberty and his acceptance of inequality only when it brings advantages to the least advantaged are the basic principles of his theory. Thus Rawls advocates a constitutional democracy as the arrangement for upholding these principles. Although this theory seems like a foolproof and universal arrangement in favour of justice and ... • 4. The Concepts Of Nature, Humanity, Power And Love Lay As A... Suzan Muzafar Professor John Wang English 170W October 13, 2014 The concepts of nature, humanity, power and love lay as a foundation for Shakespeare s, King Lear. These notions are examined through the actions and realizations of King Lear, himself. Throughout the discourse of this play we view the portrayal of humans as animals and witness King Lear s mistreatment after he gives away his power. When doing so he makes clear his view on love and its value, solely based on the flattery of words.Through nature, King Lear becomes grounded and recognizes the animalistic behaviors of the rich and the struggles of the poor. This recognition brings him to an utmost discovery that presents the reality of vicious humanity and changes the way he views the world. Nature plays the utmost largest role in this play. We can begin with the orating of nature through Lear relinquishing his crown and dividing his power among his daughters. It is here that Lear states his intentions to shake all cares and business from our age, (l.l.40) in order to unburthened crawl towards death. (l.l.42) Although, it was not in the intentions of King Lear to wreak havoc on his kingdom, he did so by relinquishing his crown. Therefore, subsequently leading his kingdom to an ironic flow of catastrophic events. It was impossible for Lear to stop being king due to the fact that it was his rightful position and he acknowledges this by stating: Hear me, recreant! On thine allegiance, hear me! ... The Evolution Of Early Human Migration The vast early human migration could have been the starting point for what would eventually blossom into the agricultural revolution, and the mutation that could have happened in the human brain has a good chance of being the starting point of written language. At the time of early human migration, humans still maintained their hunter gatherer mentality. This influenced early humans to constantly move from one location to another in an effort to find more food. Possible mutations in the early human brain could have been the beginning of organized groups of people as well as spoken language. She is faced with raising two children during the Great Depression after being deserted by her husband and is keen on keeping her children close. This is mainly due to the fact that she is still haunted by her husband leaving her. Unfortunately, she uses guilt and criticism to manipulate her children to keep them close and control their lives. Amanda s browbeat attitude and behavior is the reason she is forsaken by Mr. Wingfield, and is now swaying her son, Tom, a similar way. Amanda is crippling her children emotionally by continually critiquing every aspect of their lives, such as their eating habits, career paths, social behaviors, how they should dress, talk, and entertain. She insists Tom is far too much like his father, and believes his actions are prohibiting him from being a man of success; believing that harassing him to behave to her expectations will matter and generate a real change. Tom is smothered by her constant critique of his character, saying she is reminded of Mr. Wingfield more and more each day due to Tom s unsuitable behavior. Amanda sees Tom as the main conflict in finding Laura an acceptable suitor. After her persistent badgering, Tom eventually brings home Jim, a co worker, for dinner as a potential suitor for Laura in scene seven. Jim accidently breaks off the horn of Laura s glass unicorn, making it appear like one of the other horses in her collection. This is symbolic for the fact that Amanda sees Laura as the same as the rest of the women, and doesn t see her as a unicorn unique. Laura, unfortunately, is psychologically damaged by her mother s assumptions and constant critiques about how women should behave. Before modern day humans or Homo sapiens sapiens as we are scientifically known as, existed a similar yet less developed Homo genus named Homo erectus/ Homo ergaster. Evidence of these species dates back to over 1.9 million years ago and up to as recently as 70,000 years ago in which the evidence can be found in Africa, Europe and Asia. In this essay I will firstly provide a general timeline, providing key dates and phases of evolution. I will then discuss my findings from the research I have collected as well as information provided by expert insights and discoveries. I will explain the cause for the expansion from Africa to Europe and Asia and lastly I will elaborate on the established branches of Homo erectus and how the different Homo genus came to exist. Timeline The Homo genus dates back almost three million years. The Homo habilis species was the first in the Homo genus and is believed to have initially developed 2.8 mya (million years ago) in East Africa before becoming extinct 1.5 mya. This occurred during the Lower Paleolithic period (2.7 mya 200 kya) in which the very first stone tools were created and mastered named the Oldowan stone industry. H. habilis were the first fully bipedial species which allowed them to travel further than their quadrupedial ancestors. The sixties consisted of rights for racial minorities to be involved in the mainstream of the American lifestyle. However, unsolved issues of urban poverty still existed. Women in the 1960s established a conversion in women s status, for instance, women entered the paid workforce. America experienced a growth of conservative movements, consequently, the 1960s would confront judgment for social ill, crime and drug abuse and drug abuse as well as decline respect towards authority. • 9. Morality And Ethics Of The Auschwitz And Art Spiegelman s... Morality is adaptable in extreme situations. The Holocaust is an example of what happens to one s morality when forced to adapt to animalistic behavior in order to survive. Life in Auschwitz required a purging of one s human dignity for survival. Prisoners were constantly exposed to perpetual dehumanization, which inevitably led to the dehumanization, and restoration of one s mental, physical, and social adaptation. Because of this, one s morality begins to erase. It is in the adaptation of living in a merciless world that the line separating right and wrong begins to blur. Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz and Art Spiegelman s Maus, both represent how morality and ethics are challenged in the means of survival. Man is bound to pursue his own ends by all possible means, while he who errs but once pays dearly. (Levi 1.3). In one short sentence, Levi sums up the situation: its human nature to use any means necessary to survive. And that s exactly what happens in the camp. There are many in the camps who are not able to cope with its horrible circumstances. Unfortunately, those who are unable to cope result in animalistic behavior. When being exposed to inhumane conditions, one begins to act inhumane. Null is an example of one who regresses into an unconscious state of being. Levi presents Null as an example of one who has resulted in doing anything and everything to survive. Levi recounts, when he speaks, when he looks around, he gives the impression of being empty ... The indirect way of voting allows for the people in power to manipulate the issue to the benefit of the government and that s not they it should be. The type of muscle referred to is microscopic and is part of the normal process of growth in the body called anabolism. It is not the type of damage or injury that you see your doctor about. In some of William Shakespeare s most famous works, he deviates from the historical truth to create the final product of his works. He does this to please loyalty, as well as appeal to his audience at the time. At the same time, Shakespeare also does this to help create a stronger bond between the reader and the characters. To satisfy this, he implements many fictional pieces to his famous works. Macbeth was one of these works as he wrote this in 1606 to honor James I becoming the king of England. Rapa Nui And The Statue Of Easter Island Easter Island was one of the last places on the Earth colonized by humans, representing the culmination of the journey that people started when they left Africa. The history of this isolated Pacific Ocean island offers many lessons about humanity, and a better understanding of this mysterious place could help us build a better future. Jared Diamond, in an article from Discover Magazine, expresses the theory of individuals going to take after what occurred with Easter Island. In a short period of time, the people of Easter Island cut their forest, got their plants and animals to extinction, and created chaos and cannibalism. The most important factor, according to Diamond, is the reaction of society to ecological change. There is something more significant about this island with two names, excepting the fact that the archipelago is in the middle of the ocean and has volcanoes, found all over the small island are statues of enormous heads. Researchers have identified 887 of these giant head statues. The statues are named Moai. The ancient Rapa Nui people carved these statues out of volcanic rocks. Over time, the researchers have launched various assumptions about the mysterious purpose of the Rapa Nui statue. Some have argued that these are the artistic representations of some gods, others have launched fantastic theories that they were inspired by aliens. The clues that allowed this mystery to come loose came from the language spoken on Rapa Nui. Scientists have long believed that the inhabitants of the Easter Island have ... Osteopathic medicine, abbreviated D.O., as defined by Webster as a therapeutic system originally based upon the premise that manipulation of the muscles and bones to promote structural integrity could restore or preserve health. • 30. Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey Essay hough women play a central role in The Odyssey written by famous author Homer the portrayal and characterization of said women highlights the negative portrayal of women at the time as well as shows double standards that still plague our society today. All of the women are characterized with few traits, most of which only describe their looks, while the reader is constantly reminded of all of Odysseus good traits, most of which have nothing to do with his looks. Even Penelope, who is portrayed as the ideal woman, is only ever described as beautiful and faithful . Sadly, this sexism is reflected in the Ancient Greek s patriarchal society in which women were considered the property of men and they were married off with or without consent at very young ages. Women play a central role in the Odyssey, yet due to the Ancient Greek s society prejudices the women are written in a way that clearly highlights the double standards of society and the way men used to portray women. In the society of Ancient Greece women were never in charge of their own decisions and often had little to no say in them and were often married at young ages and were judged, not by her own achievements, but by their looks, and the wealth and status of their fathers or husbands. Even Penelope seems to acknowledge this when she says My looks, my face, my carriage, were soon faded or lost. knowing that is what the people of the Ancient Greek society judged people on. • 33. Humor And Its Relationship With Positive Life Outcomes Humor has been said to play a large role in our everyday lives, including having an impact on ones well being; mainly influencing their level of self esteem. Humor is often seen as a coping mechanism for dealing with stressful events throughout a person s lifetime (Stieger, Formann, Burger, 2011). For some time there has been the circulating idea that humor is directly related to positive life outcomes, but has been supported with very limited empirical evidence (Vaughan, Zeigler Hill, Arnau, 2014). This view is often encrypted in the minds of general society because of the constant use of jokes and sayings that acknowledge the use of humor as a way to deal with life s current circumstances; using humor as a means to cope (Leist Müller, 2013). The problem with this view is that it does not consider that there are multiple styles of humor that can affect its relationship with positive life outcomes (Vaughan et al., 2014). Contemporary research suggests that sense of humor is a multidimensional personality construct consisting of both [two] adaptive and [two] maladaptive styles (Kirsh, 2005). Based on this prior research there are four distinct styles of humor which are defined as being a person s habitual conduct or use of humor in daily life, that is his or her typical stable pattern of humor behaviours and attitudes (Beermann, 2014). The two adaptive styles are: (1) self enhancing humor, which is the use of personal humor to make oneself laugh and uplift your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Problem In developing regions around the world, hundreds of millions of people live in rural areas on less than $2 per day. This level of poverty forces communities to make hard choices between food, health care, and education. It is the poverty level where an estimated 11 million children die every year. Many of these communities are not fits for traditional microfinance, which tends to be primarily urban, and significant portions of their land are not suitable for agriculture. While there are many promising technical innovations and development programs which can increase crop yields, there remains a geographic limitation on markets where such increased yields can be sold. The result is that there are farming communities all over the world who could be made much less economically vulnerable if there were a way to generate significant supplemental income from non crop land usage which did not rely on physical distribution. The governess sees Peter Quint twice through a window, once when she is inside and once outside of the house. Living in Phoenix, where heat is already the de facto temperature, owning a hot tub is often less than desirable. However, when my family and I travel to another state, there is sometimes a Jacuzzi at the place we stay. So, while in a more favorable climate than in Arizona, my family always takes advantage of getting into the spa. Entering a hot tub is always memorable: one foot in hot to the touch; slide into the pool uncomfortable, at first; but, wait a moment the coziest sensation there could be. Relaxing in the tub is always a communal opportunity. My father discusses something with my mother. My older sister adds her two cents to the conversation, and my brother and I comment when appropriate. It becomes as pleasant a discourse as if we were having supper around the dinner table. It is always a lovely time. If there is a swimming pool nearby, my dad likes to jump in it after leaving the Jacuzzi. My mom and my sister do not understand why, but it is a strangely incredible feeling. The warmth on your body from the hot tub ecstatically contrasts upon impact with the coolness of the swimming pool as you jump into it. I feel like it is what happens when molten lava, flowing down a volcano, hits a cold ocean tide. It is quite a strange sensation, but it is rather exhilarating, as well. Overall, bathing in hot tubs has been a very rare occurrence in my life. However, I can say, upon recollection, that there is one word that consistently describes all those experiences: family. This is what makes this practice so compelling today. For example, our inner attitude towards money doesn t have anything to do with the money we have. Under TANTRA s view, there is nothing wrong about having money or enjoying life, or being tall/short, or fat/thin, or being married/single, or being employed/unemployed.., but whatever the circumstances, the attitude should be of detachment and equanimity, then a sense of freedom arises. So the world and our conditions become an ally instead of a hindrance in our spiritual development. In TANTRA there are two realities; SHIVA and SHAKTI, SHIVA representing the total matter or the absolute and SHAKTI representing the total energy or creative power.
