Symbolism In Friday Night Lights
H.G. Bissinger s Friday Night Lights occurs in Odessa, Texas where Permian football remains
the diversion through which the locals are able to live vicariously through, leading to the local s
attitudes and personal lives relying largely on the success of the team. This is evident when
looking at Jim Lewallen, L.V. Miles, and Charlie Billingsley. Odessa s small size makes it
complicated for people to lead lives separate from football. Most everyone can say that they have
taken part in the football phenomenon, the Permian Panthers. Jim Lewallen may not be a
parent, but football is what he lives for. Being a retiree, Lewallen has been long removed from
the highschool scene and yet he still relies on football as a pastime. He takes satisfaction in the
players accomplishments as if they are his own children. It is what he looks forward to and
what keeps his life interesting and prides himself in knowing all the plays. While anxiously
awaiting the beginning of the season Jim explains to Bissinger, That football is just something
that keeps me going . You know the kids moves, you know em personally. It s just like your own
kids (41). The indirect characterization of Lewallen in this scene leaves us to infer what he is
like on a deeper level, leading the reader to conclude that Permian football is the focal point of
Lewallen s life. It presents him as protective, almost fatherly. The intensity he feels is proven when
readers are informed that the players are like his

The Importance Of A Unified Communication Application
Communication within an organization is very important for keeping people informed, updated and
help move the organization forward. Cost of operations within a company is the top item that
companies work to reduce. A unified communication application is a means to help in the reduction
of operating costs.
A unified communications application like Skype has three main functions and a couple additional
abilities that can be used in a one to one interaction or a conference type interaction. Skype has
the ability to provide instant messenger, audio and/or video to users and provides a means for
multiple participants. The three features can be used simultaneously or in different combinations.
The instant messenger feature can be used for a quick note to another user or users and the
recipient(s) do not need to be at the computer when the message is sent (Figure 1). The time
needed to send an instant messenger message is real time which is much less than a normal
email, which reduces time. Skype instant messenger comes in handy when a user does not want
to interrupt a meeting by calling or wasting time going by Alice s office, Bob could send a quick
instant messenger note to Alice to see if they are available for a discussion.
The audio function is similar to a standard phone call with one exception. The normal operation
entails retrieving or typing in the phone number of a person s office, home, mobile or Skype
number and pressing the off hook button just like most

You can pay a credit repair company to fix your credit, but if you re willing to invest your time
instead of your cash then you can do it yourself without having to pay a professional. The only
questions you need to know before you get started are how much your time is worth to you, and
how comfortable you are with initiating and managing multiple credit profile related contacts via
phone and email. You will also need to be comfortable with reading and writing quasi legal
documents. You can find example correspondence online which can help you with this.
Step 1: Obtain Your Credit Reports
Your credit scoreis based on a combination of factors and information which is reported about
you by 3rd parties to the 3 major credit reporting agencies. The major agencies we are concerned
with are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. These three companies are the ones who are
responsible for publishing information about you onto your credit report, however they are not the
ones responsible for generating the information. A creditor, a collection agency or another company

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime Analysis
Every day, we are faced with decisions that challenge our moral values. Having a straight needle
on an individual s moral compass is always one of the best things that they can have. It teaches
them right from wrong, and tells them when they have to interfere and do the right thing. This
summer, the theme of this project was to do the right thing , and I was required to read two
books. I chose to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, as well
as Going Bovine by Libba Bray. Both books immediately grabbed me by the hand and took me into
their worlds, along with learning the important lessons behind both Christopher and Cameron s
stories. The emotions of each individual character play an important part in the development of the
characters, as well as the storyline. In Going Bovine, one emotion I noticed... Show more content on

My knees buckle. I m on the floor, shaking. Above me, the fire giants laugh, and I felt it in my
body like a virus I can t eject. Help me. Help me. Help me. (Bray, 75) During this quote, the
toaster catches on fire, and the effects of the Mad Cow disease start to kick in as he starts to
hallucinate fire giants. His hallucinations cause him to see things that are often larger than life.
Cameron s fear begins to really take effect when he realizes that he is rendered immobile and is
helpless to the images that are currently in front of him. Another emotion I noticed in Going
Bovine from Jenna was anger when she found out that Cameron punched Chet. You punched
Chet! Jenna s so pissed she actually takes out a non fat free pudding cup. (Bray, 60) Jenna, as a
sister, is embarrassed to have Cameron as a brother. The fact that her brother punched the guy who
she could have a potential relationship with most likely scared her, so she took her out her anger

Taken To Court Case Analysis
For a case to be taken to court, there are a lot of factors that have to be considered. When the case
is taken to court, the judge has found there to be enough evidence for the case to be taken to trial
and now it is up to the prosecutor and the defendant s attorney to prove their side of the story. The
prosecutor has to prove the defendant is guilty with all the evidence that he has to the juryand the
defendant s attorney has to poke holes in the prosecutor s points in order to prove that the
prosecutor does not have reliable information. The prosecutor, the defense attorney and the judge
are the three major players of the court and they have to decide if someone is innocent or guilty of
a crime.
Before a case gets taken to trial, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Andrew Hessick IIII and Reshma M. Saujani (2002) explain how, Many attorneys consider the
risk associated with going to trial very high because it is well understood that defendants
convicted at trial usually receive more severe sentences than those who plead guilty (p. 211).
During trial both sides will represent why they believe the defendant is innocent or guilty based
off of the evidence that each side has to the jury and the judge. During this process, the judge sits
back and listen because the judge is like a referee according to Judge Walling. Judge Walling
states that the judge makes sure the lawyers are following the right protocols. Unless the judge is
engaged in the court hearing, they are a neutral party. Francesco Ferraro (2013) backs up what
Judge Walling says by addressing that, Judges must be the tutors of the citizens expectations,
which, under a system of statute law, will focus on the code. (p.140). The judges are only there to
be an eye for the people and make sure that everything is following the law in the court room. After
each side debates on if the defendant is guilty or innocent, the jury comes back and the verdict is
given to the defendant.
There is a process in determining if someone is innocent or guilty of a crime and it works for the
most part. The police will help the attorney get the evidence that the attorney will need to prove
that the person that the police arrested was the person that committed the crime. The defense will
back up their client and make sure that if they are guilty that they get some fair treatment. While
all of this is happening, the judge will sit back and make sure that everything is following the law
and intervene if he or she has

The Themes Of Physical Beauty In Fairytales
Fairytales, arguably some of the most historical forms of literature, have remained popular
throughout the decades. Tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast, The Frog
King and The Swan Maiden, were originally written between the mid eighteenth century and mid
nineteenth century. Whether it is the fanciful love story or the magical transformation which
attracts and has kept attention throughout the decades, fairytales, specifically those in which either
the protagonist or antagonist undergoes a physical change, teach an important lesson to readers. In
this day and age, the media has put so much pressure on particularly young women to look a certain
way; what seems to be missing is the idea that physical beauty does not necessarily parallel inner
beauty. The theme of transformation in many fairytales serves to portray certain truths about... Show

Nick is both burdened and blessed by his ability to see the fleeting transformations of other Wesen
(supernatural creatures which disguise themselves using human facades). Although
transformations in fairytales often parallel a character s inner goodness or lack thereof, the
lesson which Grimm teaches is synonymous with the the clichГ© that looks can be deceiving.
The theme of inner versus outer beauty is still present in Grimm, but in the capacity that modern
society has perverted it. Today s culture is one dominated by the media. People, especially
young, impressionable females, are bombarded with images of beautiful and desirable women;
these sexy women are lacking modest clothing, wearing copious amounts of make up, and are
content to be viewed as objects, particularly by members of the opposite gender. In a society
where the vision of true beauty has been distorted to such an extreme, fairytales serve as a
reminder of the value of a beautiful

Using Hitler As An Example Of Cultural Relativism
Cultural relativism and subjective relativism was pretty interesting to me, after reading this
chapter I sort of having a better understanding of why have arguments at times. As humans, we
are stuck in our ways and we think that our ways and actions are always right, but that is not
always the case other people might not see it the way we do. Being humans we have to
understand that everyone has their own way of learning, and reading this chapter gave me a new
perspective on that. In my opinion using Hitler as an example was not the best choice. I will never
understand why people Hitler thought that taking someone else life is the right thing to do, but
who am I to disagree with their way of thinking. Unfortunately, Hitler is not the only person

I personally was not as excited about this piece as I hoped. I like louder and more exciting music
that changes from soft to loud and has a more upbeat tempo. The second piece preformed was,
Sedona by Steven Reineke. I really like this piece a lot. It reminds me of Christmas and happy
times. I like how in the beginning the piece starts off softer, but you can still hear all the
different instruments playing their part. The tone of the flutes is very beautiful to listen to and
I really enjoyed how the piece slowed down to really enhance that sound. Overall, I really
enjoyed this piece and it was very well played. The next piece played was, Salvation is created
by Pavel Tschesnokoff and Bruce Houseknecht. This piece starts off soft but then you hear the
Timpani which brings in a louder sound to the piece. This piece has a very slow tempo which
was hard for me to keep my focus on. When I listen to this piece and I hear the Timpani, I think of
something exciting happening and then it goes back to being normal again. Overall, I had a harder

Education at a Year-Round School Essay
Education at a Year Round School
Consider the following situation: A car is driving past the local elementary school on a hot and
sunny July afternoon. As the car approached the school the driver notices some unusual things.
Students are outside with the teachers for recess, and it looks as if school is in session. The school
is on a year round schedule. The driver is intrigued and decides to do some research. From the
research, this person found that students are achieving more academically and the teachers are well
rested.
Year round schoolingis beneficial to school systems because: it alleviates overcrowding, offers
remedial opportunities, decreases teacher burnout, increases retention rates, assists English as a

Each track of students is staggered throughout the year so that each group is attending the school
at different times. For example, a school that has 1000 students could rotate them into five groups
of 200 students each. Using a multi track schedule also decreases the need for construction of
new schools. According to Rivera, of the Washington Post (2003): when employing a multi track
schedule, 25 percent more students can attend year round schools, without added construction
(para. 8). (9)Additionally, Barber (1996) adds that The Soccoro Independent School District, in
Texas, saved 30 million dollars of tax payer money by using a multi track schedule (para. 4). One
result of overcrowding is a lack of personal assistance.
Remediation
Students are struggling in school and need extra remediation. All too often in schools who run on a
traditional school calendar, students do not receive the help they need until summer school. By that
point it is too late and the student is failing academically. Robert Smotherman, superintendent of
Bardstown City School District in Kentucky (as quoted by Wildavsky (1999)) says, Instead of
waiting until summer school, you catch him [student] in October, and you ve got a shot at getting
him back on track (para. 8). Students who attend year round schools have the benefit of receiving

Determine the height. Start by determining how tall your fence will need to be. If you need to
keep out rabbits and small animals, 2 feet should suffice. If you need to keep out larger animals, 4
feet should suffice. Whatever height you choose, this will be how tall your PVC pipes will be.
2.Clamp and saw. Using the vise, clamp your PVC pipe into place and cut it with the hacksaw.
Remember to use the measurements above as a reference.
3.Sand the ends. When all PVC pipes are cut to desired length, sand them with sandpaper until
smooth.
4.Apply the glue. Brush the ends of the PVC pipe with a thin layer of glue. Also apply the glue to
the PVC elbow joints.
5.Connect the pipes. Carefully insert the sanded and glued pipes into the elbow joints.

The Role Of Diplomatic Relations Between Germany And Turkey
However, many historians have debated not only Germany s role in the severity of Armenian
persecution and their motives in involving themselves in the Armenian situation and the, but also
their rationale behind forming a relationship with the Ottoman Empire that began in the 1890s. In
March of 2007, Dr. Margaret Lavinia Anderson, a Professor Emerita of History at the University of
California, Berkeley, published an article in The Journal of Modern History, entitled Down in
Turkey, far away : Human Rights, the Armenian Massacres, and Orientalism in Wilhelmine
Germany. In this article, Anderson examines the development of diplomatic relations between
Germany and Turkey and, more specifically, why Germany became interested in the Near East,
their motives, and, later, their alliance. She argues that Germany was mainly focused on developing
a strong, influential relationship with the Ottoman Empireduring the Wilhelmine era. An alliance
with the Turks would be a joint cooperative effort to strengthen and modernize the failing Ottoman
military and ensure safe passage into neighboring British colonies for the Germans, still trying to
extend their influence beyond the Ottoman Empire eastward. The Germans sought to accomplish
this and create a strong coalition by adopting a compliant attitude towards Armenian persecution
and reiterating the Turkish rhetoric and belief that the Armenianswere getting what they deserved.
Anderson asserts that, in the age of Imperialism and

Research Paper On Traffic Engineering
Traffic engineering is that phase of engineering that deals with the planning, geometric design and
traffic operations of roads, streets and highways and their networks, terminals, abutting lands and
relationships with other modes of transportation for the achievement of safe, efficient and
convenient movement of people and goods.
Traffic flow, road geometry, sidewalks, crosswalks, cycle facilities, shared lane markings, traffic
signs, traffic lights, and more. All of these elements must be considered when designing public and
private sector transportation solutions.
Traffic engineering applies engineering principles that help solve transportation problems by
considering the psychology and habits of the transportation system users. Many people still
wonder why a traffic problem is so difficult that an engineer should be called upon for a solution.
Why not just install a traffic signal, or raise/lower the speed limit, or erect more signs?
One of the greatest obstacles a professional traffic engineer faces in applying sound principles of
traffic engineering is competing theories from vocal non traffic engineers who lack expertise. The
unfortunate result is the creation of traffic hazards when false theories are put into effect. ... Show

Background and Research Question Survey questions and questionnaires can always be improved
upon. This can be done through changing the wording of the question, choosing a different
response scale for the question, or reordering the questions in the questionnaire. There are various
ways to find out if a survey questionneeds revision, such as identifying grammar and concept errors
in the question using specific techniques, or conducting in depth interviews to find out if survey

I will use a few different methods. One method is by using the Problem Classification Coding
Scheme (CCS). The CCS is a process to test for issues in the question answering processes. It is a
series of 28 questions that go through each stage of answering a survey question. It tests to see if
there are any issues in any of the states of answering a question (Schaeffer and Dykema,
2011:919). Another method is to the Question Understanding Aid (QUAID). QUAID is a
mechanism to test for issues in wording of a survey question, such as vague words or question
length or even grammatical issues. The goal of QUAID is to ensure that each question is
grammatically correct, and easy for the respondent to comprehend (Schaeffer and Dykema, 2011,
921). A third method and last method is to use cognitive interviews. Cognitive interviews are
small group discussions to talk about issues or topics to help in the process of writing survey
questions and making the survey process go quicker (BCB, 2014:434). All three methods will be
used for questionnaire improvement. For the cognitive interviews, two interviews were done with
people I knew. A summary about the people interviewed is presented in Table 1.
Analysis
After conducting the cognitive interviews and using the CCS and QUAID, there are a few
problems present. For each question, the reference period is vague. The preamble asks for general
news habits. This is a problem since general could have very different meanings

Student Writers And Experienced Adult Writers Analysis
Revision Strategies of Student Writers and Experienced Adult Writers by Nancy Sommers In
Nancy Sommer s article she explains how Gordon Rohman s and James Britton s linear models
of writing are primarily derived from our speech process and lack focus on revision strategies.
Her research shows the differences between how student writers approach revising their papers
compared to experienced adult writers. Student writers look at revision as changing words to
avoid repetition, not to further develop an idea or rethink an argument. They are simply reviewing
the paper for redundancy and taking the language of speech to the more formal language of prose
(47). The students view the creation of their papers as a series of parts and do not... Show more

Students focus primarily on grammar rules and put less emphasis on their textual structure and
ideas. One the other hand, experienced writers use revision to find the form of their argument and
find their audience, which helps them develop their intentions and executions. This leads them to
develop ideas and semantics geared for their reader in mind. Experienced writers review their
work as a whole and possess a nonlinear theory to revision (52). They strategize and theorize to
recognize and resolve the dissonance they sense in their writing (51). The experience writers theory
has two elements of the revision process which encompasses a holistic perspective and a recursive
process. They consider every part of their writing as a potential for change. Sentences, ideas, word
structure, organization are a few considerations an experienced writer ponders over while making
revisions to produce a rhythmic, communicative, well formed and balanced piece of work. The
writers revision processes occur during different levels and cycles of their writing. Students lack the

Football is a classic American pastime that has been thrilling spectators for decades. As with all
sports, rules are established in football to avoid potential dangers. One of the most serious risks
associated with football is concussions. A concussion is a hit induced injury that causes any sort
of malfunction in the brain. When the brain does not function properly, a person is exposed to a
mental degradation that can result in a loss of self being and independence. Concussions are
becoming the main suspect for mental challenges in football players as the result of an overlooked

In addition, Purdue University studied high school football players and noted that one team
member was hit with an impact of over two hundred and eighty times the force of gravity
(Vendantam). Each of these factors working either independently or creatively can result in a
concussion which in turn can jeopardize the mental stability of its victim. Next, a major effect of
concussions is impulsive or irregular behavior which can be defined by aggression, memory
loss, and suicide. Irritability is an outcome that not only negatively affects the individual, but
those around them as well. For example, Michael (fictitious name) was hit during a high school
football game in his freshman year and instantly experienced many concussion symptoms,
including a contentious temper; he and his family continue to suffer the consequences of his
concussion (Kluger 46). Boston University also conducted a study emphasizing the result of
aggression due to concussive blows (Lowry 9). Memory loss is another detrimental post
concussive effect and it can be more easily identified by medical conditions such as dementia
and Alzheimer s disease. For instance, the NFL held a study in September of 2009 and

announced a second Five Year Plan to last from 1958 to 1963. This plan was called the Great
Leap Forward. The Great Leap Forward planned to develop agriculture and industry. Mao believed
that both had to grow to allow the other to grow. Industry could only succeed if the work force was
well fed, while the agricultural workers needed industry to produce the modern tools needed for
modernisation. In order to achieve this, Chinawas reformed into a series of communities called
communes. The changes Mao made in the Second Five Year Plan were significant. The first
reason why the Great Leap Forward was significant is because of its impact on the social
community of China. A community s size varied however most held about 5000 families. People in
a community gave up their ownership of tools, animals etc... so that everything was owned by the
community. People now employed for the community and not for... Show more content on

Hillary And Norgay Compare And Contrast
Farah Aboufakhr
6th hour
Hillary vs. Tenzing: To the top of Mount. Everest!
Sir Edmund Hillary s, View from the Summit and Tenzing Norgay s, The Dream Comes True
were very interesting articles on Mount Everest. Climbing though the chilling Himalayas, they
had to overcome difficult obstacles. In each of their essays, they have some things they agreed
upon, and some they did not. Each perspective brings out a sharp contrast in the personality of
both of these men. They did share several similarities like a few of the obstacles they had to
overcome. Two of these obstacles were the navigation of the steep section also known as a crag and
the clotting of ice around oxygen equipment.
Each of the authors had their own reasons for writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Tenzing s account it was as if he had 2 different works in the one story. For a few paragraphs
he would talk about the climb with a voice filled with awe and respect for the place he was
blessed to walk through. He would then talk about a fact that Hillary wrongfully stated like the
height of the crag and in one instance where he got into talking about who got to the top first his
tone became very annoyed. Hillary s account was filled with excitement and daring moments of
heroism like when the piece of ice slid down and he almost lost is footing and when he helped
Tenzing clear the ice out of the oxygen mask and when he supposedly pulled Tenzing up a 40
foot crag which Tenzing considered only a 15 foot crag. Hillary s account could be described as
bragging and exaggeration of events.
Why do fame and fortune cause people to lie about their experiences? Sir Edmund Hillary and
Tenzing Norgay both wrote essays containing versions of their journey to the South Summit of
Mount Everest. Each author had his own unique point of view. Although the sections were very
different, they did share several similarities like a few of the obstacles they had to overcome. In
Hillary s View from the Summit, he exaggerates his version of the climb to gain a bigger name for
himself. When in actuality, he made himself appear conceited. Norgay, in The Dream Comes True,
is very honest. He is a hometown mountain climbing guide who

The Short Stories And Poems
Since starting this course of American Literature we have cover so much material. We have read
several short stories and poems. We analyzed these stories and poems. We have discussed the
main points and main Components of these stories and poems. We have also learned about the
authors of these stories and poems. I would like to introduce the stories we discussed and what I
have learned from these stories in Exam 1.
We first studied African American folktales. Folktales are stories that have been handed down from
generation to generation. The first short story we read was When Brer Deer and Brer Terrapin
runned a race. This short story is an animal tale about them racing to marry the same character in
the story. In this story Brer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Wonderful Tar Baby Story I think is a short story that is telling you that you should not lose

you may not be able to get out of. The rabbit lost his temper when Tar baby would not answer him
and he hit him until he was complete stuck in the tar and could not get lose.
As I read How Mr. Rabbit Was Too Sharp for Mr. Fox I feel like the lesson with this story is
reverse Psychology. The rabbit was caught and told the fox drown me, skin me and pretty much

A Comparison Of Identity Crisis
Personal Reactions: I agree with Mr. Erik Erikson when he said Everybody has heard of identity
crisis and it arouses a mixture of curiosity, mirth, and discomfort which yet promises, by the very
play on the word crisis, not to turn out to be something quite as fatal as it sounds . When I hear
the word crisis I think the worse depending on the situation as an example mid life crisis. I see
someone who is in a middle agegroup but they not considered an elderly person along with them
not being considered a young person. I think of this person seeing themselves as being old and
doing stuff to help them feel younger by wearing clothes that the younger people wear, change
their hair color, buy a sports car, buy a motorcycle, go to the clubs, and hangout with younger
people. Some people feel like they didn t accomplish enough stuff by this particular age and try to
change that by doing those things to help them feel better with their accomplishments in life. I
agree with Mr. Erik Eriksonwhen he described the patients who was in the war being
shellshocked, nor becomes malingerers, but had through the exigencies of war lost a sense of
personal sameness and historical continuity . I know a lot of people who say their love ones that
returned from the war came back as a different person. Their love ones suffered from paranoia and
have problems with adjusting to the civilian life due to their traumatic experiences in the war. They

A body stirred by wanderlust can find themselves in places beyond the scope of their imagination
and with ideas stretched broader than all that humanity has ever conceived. Their eclectic flow of
thoughts and the adventures they have sought all intertwine together to form something that all
explorers have in common. The two founding fathers of the continent of North America are no
exception. Captain John Smith and Samuel de Champlain, two men stirred by wanderlust, never
met each other, and yet the extent of their wanderings altered maps, permitted religious freedom,
and changed the routes of the many travelers who were to follow in their footsteps. Samuel de

The Collapse Of The Soviet Empire And Its Hegemony
We often overlook the real causes of the downfall of the Soviet empire and its hegemony, and
simply tie it to the fact that they were communist, dictatorial regimes. However, this is not entirely
true. There were many factors that resulted in the demise of this socialist conglomerate, and East
Germany in particular. The GDR was a special case in that it was racked by some of the worst
economic circumstances that any of the Eastern blocfaced, and as result, became the first to fall.
Such assumptions compel us to draw equivalencies between the GDR and other communist
countries like Yugoslavia, even though East Germanywas at a much more disadvantageous
position. The East German military also had to provide the bulk of the non Soviet forces in all
Warsaw Pact military plans. This forced the GDR government to forcibly conscript large numbers
of their population and spend vast quantities of their funds on military hardware. These elements
combined to start the GDR on a slippery slope towards default, and economic turmoil. The first
aspect that I will focus on is the grossly disproportionate amount of money that the East German
government spent on its military capacity. Initially, the USSR was the only military force in
postwar East Germany. The Soviets forbade the new communist state an armed forces, but as the
costs of keeping up a substantial presence began to add up, the Soviet military took notice.
Beginning in the mid 1950s, the Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) manifested into

The consumer discretionary sector is sensitive to pricing changes in commodities prices. Over the
past 20 years, the prices of chicken have more than doubled, posing a risk from the cost side of
Yum! Brands. If these price hikes continue, Yum would face a challenge because its cost might be
rising higher than it can raise prices to consumers because of the competitive nature of the industry.
Oversaturation in certain markets: In the United States alone there is at least one McDonald s in
every town along with another 2 3 rival competitors. That is not even taking into consideration the
other competition present. For example, a supermarket, grocery store, convenience store, local deli

To overcome these issues, Yum Brandmust focus more on product technology or research and
developments which will make a real difference in the products they offers other than chickens in
order to maintain strong relationships with valuable customers and look for a cheaper chicken
supplier without affecting the quality. Overall, Yum Brand is strong enough to deal with these

The reason the scientific managers are said to have opposed the demand for shorter hours was
because worktime reform tends to unite workers: Taylor s ideal of a high priced man , set apart
from his fellows by the desire for premium pay, translated easily into managerial practice
regarding wages. Cuts in hours, in contrast, would have had to influence whole departments,
producing the kind of group feeling that was anathema to Taylor[3, pp. 136 7]. Journal of
Management History Vol. 1 No. 2, 1995, pp. 8 25. MCB University Press, 1355 252X Finally,
Roediger asserts that Taylor had little concern with worker physiology and that the scientific
managers denied that the psychology of individual workers played a complex part in the
determination of how hard they laboured. Rather, it is claimed, Taylorism relied on mechanics,
deskilling, isolation and wage incentives to induce workers to labour at the prescribed pace: Thus
Taylorism undercut the older rationales for securing cooperation from a healthy workforce through
reduction in hours. The standard guidebook of the Taylorists, published in 1911, featured a daily
time clock, calibrated to the hundredth of an hour. It was a ten hour clock[3, p. 137]. Indicative of
the ease with which many analysts accept that they can vilify the scientific management movement,
Roediger does not offer any evidence

The Impact Of External Forces On The Environment
When manipulating a business s strategies it is important to focus on the external factors in the
environment. An external analysis is where a business conducts environmental scanning that
present a company with the key external forces influencing the organization. The facets of external
forces examined are the business environment, remote environment, or the competitive
environment. A business environment is all of the external factors in the general environment
that a firm cannot control, but can affect their strategy. The remote environment is the forces
that affect most firms. Lastly, a competitive environment is the firm s specific industry and its
entirety. The external analysis is pertinent to a company called Dick s Drive In; without it, Dick

A History of Gout
Gout is one of oldest form of arthritis that is documented in medicine. It creates a throbbing and
inflammation in the sufferer joints. The Egyptians were the first to identify Gout and it was later
recognized by the Hippocrates in the fifth century BC, who referred to it as the unwalkable disease
(Simkin Nuki, 2006,). Over the course of history, gouthas been concomitant lavish amount of

in early centuries because it was related to a way of life that only the rich could afford. In early
centuries gout was desired communally because it was frequent among the rich and a sign of
wealth. Also, if someone has a gout attack it was looked upon as a preventive method in
contradiction of serious illness. For example, gout prevents other illnesses and prolongs

In addition, historically gout was considered a disease in middle age men, however the notion
that gout could not affect women was proven false. Seneca, observed, in this age, women rival
men in every kind of lasciviousness ... why need we then be surprised at seeing so many of the
female sex afflicted with the gout? (Simkin Nuki, 2006). Gout disease is a male dominate disease,

because it can be extremely overwhelming and the only way to stay on top of the game is to stay

The Problem with Teenage Childbearing in the United States
Teenage childbearing is serious social problem in the United States. The rates of teen parenting are
at is lowest, but the numbers still remain an issue. Teen parenting has been associated with negative
outcomes for the parents and their children. Many teenage parents and their families are unaware of
the disparities when becoming a teen parent. With outcomes of teen childbearing being identified,
teen pregnancyprevention needs to be further addressed. Addressing teen pregnancy and methods of
prevention will help strengthen families and promote healthy development in the future. Evidence
based teen pregnancy programs, parent involvement, and community involvement need to be
implemented to help decrease teen pregnancies and rates and sexual risk behaviors; a
comprehensive approach would be the most beneficial for youth.
Over the last two decades teen birth rates have declined, however the rates of teen births remain to

Rise Of The West Essay
We cannot be too sure of what accurately caused the rise of the west, but we could as well be
close enough. The problem about history is that stories will evolve after time passes. Debates
between Historians and other will sometimes change ideas. Authors of some best selling books
leave out some key details that could be needed later on. We have also been false on a certain
number of subjects like how Columbus was the first to discover America when truth was he wasn
t. There is a lot of evidence pointing towards that the West actually did rise, but there are still
problems from our fellow Historians this current day. We all know what we know, it s human
nature to depend on something that we know and also trust. There are though, some minor
misconceptions with what we know. The books we read today give us all the same in text of what
happened and how it shaped a country to what it is today with all the critical points. It s important
to know the ideologies, practices, advancements and connections between countries. Though these
things are important, there could still be more out there. Historians could be basing their facts off

today. To say we will have a depiction of the past is questionable, as we only know what we
unveil. We continue to seek out past civilizations, looking for the pieces of the puzzle to link the
past to the present. Overall, we can t just be too sure of what caused the rise of the west, but it s
always good to come up with ideas, if they are reasonable, because it may drive more curiosity in

The Classification Of Water Imagery Present Throughout...
Shakespeare is renowned for his vividly descriptive, original, and pioneering use of imagery in
many of his plays, but their effect on the audience s understanding of his plays is most obvious in
the tragedies, particularly in Macbeth. Images in Shakespeare s works are used, according to
Shakespeare critic G. Wilson Knight, to craft a play s atmosphere or the permeating tone or mood
of a play (3). However, this attitude between images and atmosphere creates an environment where
different definitions of images contribute to different interpretations of the subjective atmosphere
that is born out of each individual reader s perception of the play. Because of this discrepancy, a
strict definition of the term image should be observed. The term image will refer to physical objects
or actions that are used by Shakespeare to clarify broad themes and character insights throughout
the play. Specifically, the classification of water imagery present throughout Macbethwill be
discussed broadly to include descriptions of rain, water, and the act of cleansing with water,
whether or not they are real or imagined by the characters. Shakespeare uses all of these images to
create an atmosphere that highlights Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s guilt and their subsequent desire
to purify their tainted moralities. In addition to this, Macbeth will be interpreted through the lens of
correcting chaos into order. This righting of natural order is brought forth by the rainstorms of the
witches to

Racism In Hawaii Essay
Racism in Hawaii is growing time by time, and it comes from a lot of reason. These arguments
are sometimes about history of Hawaii and since Hawaii got mixed race, the other reason is the
hatred that grows for each different race, because the way people act to each other today are

main focus, which is to grow and to be better at things together. These reasons that gives Hawaiia

Collective Behavior
Chapter I: The Study of Collective Behavior
A. What Is Collective Behavior?
As we review these pages for the final time sections of Los Angeles are in flames in response to a
jury verdict exonerating police whose beating of an African American man was captured on
videotape. Supporters and opponents of abortion take to the streets daily. Mexico City searches
for answers to a gas explosion that leveled a 40 square block area. The number of men wearing
pony tails and one earring and the number of people saying and understanding yo, dude seems to
be increasing. These diverse actions fall within the area sociologists call collective behavior.
Some fields in sociology are relatively easy to define and their meaning can be grasped ... Show

An even more extreme view argues that the field as a whole should be abolished because all
complex social behavior is collective and to a degree dynamic. Hence the field has no unique
subject matter. The collective behavior perspective is thought to apply to all behavior and no
unique concepts, theories or methods are needed to understand it, apart from general sociological
concepts. If we were starting fresh we could certainly find a better name for the field and perhaps
a more logical way of dividing it up (although this could be said of most intellectual fields).
The term collective behavior does not have much literal meaning since strictly speaking it
includes any group behavior. Yet once established, intellectual traditions are slow to change. The
initial definitions of knowledge and questions in this field still exert a powerful hold. Courses
and books usually contain the words collective behavior. Critics of this field raise important
issues, but as in Kipling s fable of the blind persons and the elephant (where each person correctly
identifies a separate part, but all fail to see the whole animal), we think there is a broad logic
uniting the field. The logic involves emergent group behavior in settings where cultural guidelines
are non specific or lacking, inadequate, or in dispute.

Polymerase Chain Reaction Lab Report
2.0 Introduction
The purpose of this laboratory experiment was to determine which suspect committed the crime.
Four potential suspects DNA were obtained as well as the DNA from the crime scene . In order
to develop some form of conclusion into the suspect two techniques are required to be used which
included a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Agrose Gel Electrophoresis. Having this allowed
a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to take place which then permitted the investigation to
establish a suspect to be matched. Polymerase chain reaction is a new, popular molecular biology
technique for enzymatically replicating DNA without using a living organism, such as E. coli or
yeast. The technique allows a small amount of the DNA molecule to be ... Show more content on

To prepare the gel required 0.67g of Agarose was measure out. Agarose was then blended into
134ml of TAE buffer (appendix 1) in a beaker and warmed in order to break up the agarose. A
microwave was used for this. After completion of the warm up the beaker was whirled. Once the
fluid was made it was utilised to fill the gel dish starting from one corner and was left too cool to
structure the gel. In the mean time the PCR responses from earlier on in the lab acquired and set
at the worktable. A 20ul micropipette was utilised to then include 10ul of orange G stacking
color to every tube and were then blended well by pipetting all over. Once the gel had set an
allele ladder was used to create wells so the solution could be placed. The micropipette was then
used to add the allele stepping stool to the 1st path of the gel. The DNA, which was obtained
from the crime scene, was then placed in the 2nd lane and the rest followed on in place from A

completion it was placed under a UV light to look at the DNA and notice the relocation. Pictures
of it were taken and printed out. This can be seen in results. (Figure 2)

Summary Of Blood Relations By Sharon Pollock
Blood Relations by Sharon Pollock complicates my understanding of Canadian culture to the degree
of questioning the boundaries between justice and morality. Canadian culture is defined by the
values portrayed through the empowerment of minorities and the ability to empathize with others
on the basis of morality. These principles are used to promote positivity and equity founded on a
system of justice. I believe these values have been manipulated by Pollock to reveal a question of
ethics in Canadian culture.
Pollock uses the distribution of power to minorities as a platform to exploring the importance of
morality versus justice. Morality is defined as whether something is right or wrong and justice is
defined as what is deserved. Lizzie is

Dealing with the Death of a Family Member
The death of a family member can greatly affect the family system as it creates a void that is
difficult to adjust to. The family experiences a terrible sense of loss, as well as a fear that they
have to carry on with their lives without their loved one (Rotter, 2000). They have a hard time
picturing there knew life and moving on without them. With the familysystem changing it may
destroy the relationships that already exists in the family (Bowlby West, 1983). After the death of
a family member the most difficult time for the family would be the anniversaries. These
anniversaries include the anniversary of the day that the family member died, their birthday as
well as special holidays. These dates are stressful for the family and will be a reminder of the death
(Bowlby West, 1983). The griefprocess that the family system will go through after the death of a
family member may last a long time, especially as they go through the different anniversary s.
Non normative events, such as a child s death by suicide, and accidental death may also make
the grief process more difficult (Rotter, 2000). According to Bowlby (1979) and Parkes (1972)
there are four stages of grief that people will go through during the grief period after the death of
a family member (Bowlby West, 1983). The first phase is a phase of numbness that lasts from a
few hours to a week. They may experience anger and distress as well. They would find it difficult
to cope with tasks because they are preoccupied

Interpretations of Robert Frost s Poem, Design Essay
Interpretations of Robert Frost s Poem, Design
The poem Design explores whether the events in nature are simply random occurrences or part
of a larger plan by God, and if there s a force that dominates and controls our very existence. On
that point both Jere K Huzzard and Everett Carter aggress on. They differ in their interpretations
of the poem s ending and what they think Frost wanted to convey with his vague ending. Both
agree that the last line of the poem was written in an undefined way with purpose on Frost s side.
But each critic poses his own ideas regarding what is the meaning of that line. While Carter
examines the whole poem in order to answer this question, Huzzard chose to focus only on the last
two lines.

This is supported in the poem by the description of the moth as a rigid satin cloth. The satin cloth
can be seen like a bridal dress, suggestions of good, but the negativity of rigid implies perhaps on
the lining of a coffin where a rigid body would lie. In the second part of the octave the speaker
describes the scene again. He compares the scene and the assorted characters to a witch s broth
(line 6), and Carter claims that this part introduces ironies regarding the observer s feelings
towards the scene he saw. The speaker views those characters as assorted characters of death and
blight (line 4). But they are there to begin the morning right (line 5) a positive saying which you
wouldn t exact to hear associated with death and blight. This juxtaposing of blight and right
emphasizes the irony. How can the morning be right if the scene culminate in death?
In the sestet, we are presented with three questions regarding the scene in the octave. According
to Carter, a simple reading of the poem would lead the reader to think that the fourth question that
rises is also the answer to the first three, the answer being that nature is a design of evil. But he
thinks of this questions as foolish, and again, ironic. How can a flower choose its own color? Is
there really a guiding hand that directed the spider to that place only to build

King Louis XIV helped usher in the golden age of literature into France. He created institutions

A Summary Of The Most Powerful Women In Advertising
The article The Most Powerful Women in Advertising highlights the introduction of women in
advertising. Women make up a small percentage of advertising managers; however, they don t
match their male peers in the managerial ranks. Based on table one, the number of women as
advertising and promotions managers has increased steadily. From 1983 2015, women in this
occupation rose from 21.8% 56.5%. The most obvious answer for the increase is that with
technology rapidly expanding, women as a target market have increased. Another assumption for
this increase is the fact that women account for a high percentage of shoppers in households and
women are better at speaking to each other. Even in race and ethnicity, the percentages have
increased. The conclusion that I have drawn from table one is there is a demand for women,
African Americans, Asians and Hispanics as Advertising and promotions managers.... Show more

the gap between men and women median wages are closing. In the future, women and men just

Comparing Two Slave Stories
Both the slave narratives have a few components that comes down to outlining the misery of the
black race under white supremacists for slavery. The stories have the same comparable qualities,
for example, social stratification in wording or racial lines, unfair treatment, for example, being
put through purposeful misusing of sustenance, constrained work, oppression and in addition
misuse of human rights and stripping of nobility from being beaten while exposed. The
significant distinction between the two stories is the generally drilled sexual misuse of ladies in
the Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. Dissimilar to men, the ladies are compelled to have babies
with their white masters and in successive cases the conceived newborn child is

Blacks In Film Essay
Film is one of the most influential means of communication and a powerful medium of propaganda.
Race and representation is central to the study of the black film actor, since the major studios

The depiction of blacks in Hollywood movies reinforce many of the misconceptions of the white
majority rather than objective reality, limiting black actors to stereotypical roles.

The black ghetto of television has opened up lately, and shows featuring African
Americans in a variety of roles may be viewed any night of the week. This shift is primarily the
result of challenges made by the NAACP, and the resulting general shifts in public attitudes about
race. But the new representations of blacks are also shaped by the historical stereotypes which
plagued African Americans.
In 1971 actor and director Melvin Van Peebles wrote, produced, starred in, and composed the
soundtrack for the film Sweet Sweetback s Badasssss Song . An entirely black production, it
broke the mold of black characterization in feature films. The story revolves around a pimp
suddenly radicalized by aiding a young black revolutionary who is beaten by white cops. His
resulting disgust with the white establishment struck a cord with black audiences everywhere. The
films ending, with it s proclamation that quot;a badasssss nigger is coming back to collect some

Hollywood and for blacks in film. Blaxploitation was born.

The Scottsboro Trial
The Scottsboro Trials were among the largest legal injustices in the South. The events that
started the trials began in the early spring of 1931, when nine young black men were falsely
accused of raping two white women on a train. The cases were tried and appealed in Alabama
and twice argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. The state pursued the case and all white juries
delivered guilty verdicts that initially carried the death penalty. Several of the accused were
sentenced to prison terms and all had long stays in prison as the case made its way through the
legal system. The case later was one of the inspirations for Harper Lee s book To Kill A

Following the verdict, another of the defendants, Ozzie Powell, was shot in the head after
attacking a deputy sheriff in an apparent escape attempt. After Patterson s conviction was upheld
in the Alabama Supreme Court, the prosecution and the Scottsboro Defense Committee agreed
to a strange compromise in an effort to end the long ordeal. Clarence Norris was convicted of
rape and sentenced to death; Norris sentence was subsequently commuted to life imprisonment
by Alabama governor. Andy Wright and Charlie Weems also were convicted of rape and
sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Rape charges were dropped against Powell, but he was
convicted of assaulting the deputy sheriff and sentenced to 20 years. Meanwhile, all charges
against the other four defendants Roy Wright, Olen Montgomery, Willie Roberson, and Eugene
Williams were dropped. Thus, on the basis of the same body of evidence, four defendants were
freed and four convicted. In 1938 a final attempt to win the remaining prisoners freedom failed
when both the Alabama Pardon Board and governor Graves denied pardon applications. Charlie
Weems was paroled in 1943; Clarence Norris and Andy Wright were paroled a year later but both
were sent back to prison shortly thereafter for violating the terms of their probation; Ozzie Powell
was paroled in 1946; Haywood Patterson escaped from prison in 1948. Norris,

A Raisin In The Sun Vs. Night Waitress
A Raisin In The Sun vs Night Waitress : A Connection It has been argued that all literature
descends from something else. This may include single stories, plays, or even a piece of a prose.
This assumption allows us to make connections from two different forms of literature and
synthesize them into something bigger. A play and poem can have similar or even identical
themes, but can be delivered in many different ways. Lorraine Hansberry of A Raisin in the Sun,
and Lynda Hull of Night Waitress conveys the message that being a minority is not what makes
you who you are, it is your dreams and how you plan to pursue them, is what defines your
circumstances. Unfortunately, some overcome adversity, while others are stuck in a daze to distract

  • 2. Symbolism In Friday Night Lights H.G. Bissinger s Friday Night Lights occurs in Odessa, Texas where Permian football remains the diversion through which the locals are able to live vicariously through, leading to the local s attitudes and personal lives relying largely on the success of the team. This is evident when looking at Jim Lewallen, L.V. Miles, and Charlie Billingsley. Odessa s small size makes it complicated for people to lead lives separate from football. Most everyone can say that they have taken part in the football phenomenon, the Permian Panthers. Jim Lewallen may not be a parent, but football is what he lives for. Being a retiree, Lewallen has been long removed from the highschool scene and yet he still relies on football as a pastime. He takes satisfaction in the players accomplishments as if they are his own children. It is what he looks forward to and what keeps his life interesting and prides himself in knowing all the plays. While anxiously awaiting the beginning of the season Jim explains to Bissinger, That football is just something that keeps me going . You know the kids moves, you know em personally. It s just like your own kids (41). The indirect characterization of Lewallen in this scene leaves us to infer what he is like on a deeper level, leading the reader to conclude that Permian football is the focal point of Lewallen s life. It presents him as protective, almost fatherly. The intensity he feels is proven when readers are informed that the players are like his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of A Unified Communication Application Communication within an organization is very important for keeping people informed, updated and help move the organization forward. Cost of operations within a company is the top item that companies work to reduce. A unified communication application is a means to help in the reduction of operating costs. A unified communications application like Skype has three main functions and a couple additional abilities that can be used in a one to one interaction or a conference type interaction. Skype has the ability to provide instant messenger, audio and/or video to users and provides a means for multiple participants. The three features can be used simultaneously or in different combinations. The instant messenger feature can be used for a quick note to another user or users and the recipient(s) do not need to be at the computer when the message is sent (Figure 1). The time needed to send an instant messenger message is real time which is much less than a normal email, which reduces time. Skype instant messenger comes in handy when a user does not want to interrupt a meeting by calling or wasting time going by Alice s office, Bob could send a quick instant messenger note to Alice to see if they are available for a discussion. The audio function is similar to a standard phone call with one exception. The normal operation entails retrieving or typing in the phone number of a person s office, home, mobile or Skype number and pressing the off hook button just like most ... The only questions you need to know before you get started are how much your time is worth to you, and how comfortable you are with initiating and managing multiple credit profile related contacts via phone and email. You will also need to be comfortable with reading and writing quasi legal documents. You can find example correspondence online which can help you with this. Step 1: Obtain Your Credit Reports Your credit scoreis based on a combination of factors and information which is reported about you by 3rd parties to the 3 major credit reporting agencies. The major agencies we are concerned with are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. These three companies are the ones who are responsible for publishing information about you onto your credit report, however they are not the ones responsible for generating the information. • 5. The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime Analysis Every day, we are faced with decisions that challenge our moral values. Having a straight needle on an individual s moral compass is always one of the best things that they can have. It teaches them right from wrong, and tells them when they have to interfere and do the right thing. This summer, the theme of this project was to do the right thing , and I was required to read two books. I chose to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, as well as Going Bovine by Libba Bray. Both books immediately grabbed me by the hand and took me into their worlds, along with learning the important lessons behind both Christopher and Cameron s stories. The emotions of each individual character play an important part in the development of the characters, as well as the storyline. In Going Bovine, one emotion I noticed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My knees buckle. I m on the floor, shaking. Above me, the fire giants laugh, and I felt it in my body like a virus I can t eject. Help me. Help me. Help me. (Bray, 75) During this quote, the toaster catches on fire, and the effects of the Mad Cow disease start to kick in as he starts to hallucinate fire giants. His hallucinations cause him to see things that are often larger than life. Cameron s fear begins to really take effect when he realizes that he is rendered immobile and is helpless to the images that are currently in front of him. Another emotion I noticed in Going Bovine from Jenna was anger when she found out that Cameron punched Chet. You punched Chet! Jenna s so pissed she actually takes out a non fat free pudding cup. (Bray, 60) Jenna, as a sister, is embarrassed to have Cameron as a brother. The fact that her brother punched the guy who she could have a potential relationship with most likely scared her, so she took her out her anger to the source of her fear, ... • 6. Taken To Court Case Analysis For a case to be taken to court, there are a lot of factors that have to be considered. When the case is taken to court, the judge has found there to be enough evidence for the case to be taken to trial and now it is up to the prosecutor and the defendant s attorney to prove their side of the story. The prosecutor has to prove the defendant is guilty with all the evidence that he has to the juryand the defendant s attorney has to poke holes in the prosecutor s points in order to prove that the prosecutor does not have reliable information. The prosecutor, the defense attorney and the judge are the three major players of the court and they have to decide if someone is innocent or guilty of a crime. Before a case gets taken to trial, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Andrew Hessick IIII and Reshma M. Saujani (2002) explain how, Many attorneys consider the risk associated with going to trial very high because it is well understood that defendants convicted at trial usually receive more severe sentences than those who plead guilty (p. 211). During trial both sides will represent why they believe the defendant is innocent or guilty based off of the evidence that each side has to the jury and the judge. During this process, the judge sits back and listen because the judge is like a referee according to Judge Walling. Judge Walling states that the judge makes sure the lawyers are following the right protocols. Unless the judge is engaged in the court hearing, they are a neutral party. Francesco Ferraro (2013) backs up what Judge Walling says by addressing that, Judges must be the tutors of the citizens expectations, which, under a system of statute law, will focus on the code. (p.140). The judges are only there to be an eye for the people and make sure that everything is following the law in the court room. After each side debates on if the defendant is guilty or innocent, the jury comes back and the verdict is given to the defendant. There is a process in determining if someone is innocent or guilty of a crime and it works for the most part. The police will help the attorney get the evidence that the attorney will need to prove that the person that the police arrested was the person that committed the crime. The defense will back up their client and make sure that if they are guilty that they get some fair treatment. While all of this is happening, the judge will sit back and make sure that everything is following the law and intervene if he or she has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Themes Of Physical Beauty In Fairytales Fairytales, arguably some of the most historical forms of literature, have remained popular throughout the decades. Tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast, The Frog King and The Swan Maiden, were originally written between the mid eighteenth century and mid nineteenth century. Whether it is the fanciful love story or the magical transformation which attracts and has kept attention throughout the decades, fairytales, specifically those in which either the protagonist or antagonist undergoes a physical change, teach an important lesson to readers. In this day and age, the media has put so much pressure on particularly young women to look a certain way; what seems to be missing is the idea that physical beauty does not necessarily parallel inner beauty. The theme of transformation in many fairytales serves to portray certain truths about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nick is both burdened and blessed by his ability to see the fleeting transformations of other Wesen (supernatural creatures which disguise themselves using human facades). Although transformations in fairytales often parallel a character s inner goodness or lack thereof, the lesson which Grimm teaches is synonymous with the the clichГ© that looks can be deceiving. The theme of inner versus outer beauty is still present in Grimm, but in the capacity that modern society has perverted it. Today s culture is one dominated by the media. People, especially young, impressionable females, are bombarded with images of beautiful and desirable women; these sexy women are lacking modest clothing, wearing copious amounts of make up, and are content to be viewed as objects, particularly by members of the opposite gender. Using Hitler As An Example Of Cultural Relativism Cultural relativism and subjective relativism was pretty interesting to me, after reading this chapter I sort of having a better understanding of why have arguments at times. As humans, we are stuck in our ways and we think that our ways and actions are always right, but that is not always the case other people might not see it the way we do. Being humans we have to understand that everyone has their own way of learning, and reading this chapter gave me a new perspective on that. In my opinion using Hitler as an example was not the best choice. I will never understand why people Hitler thought that taking someone else life is the right thing to do, but who am I to disagree with their way of thinking. I like how in the beginning the piece starts off softer, but you can still hear all the different instruments playing their part. The tone of the flutes is very beautiful to listen to and I really enjoyed how the piece slowed down to really enhance that sound. Overall, I really enjoyed this piece and it was very well played. The next piece played was, Salvation is created by Pavel Tschesnokoff and Bruce Houseknecht. This piece starts off soft but then you hear the Timpani which brings in a louder sound to the piece. This piece has a very slow tempo which was hard for me to keep my focus on. As the car approached the school the driver notices some unusual things. Students are outside with the teachers for recess, and it looks as if school is in session. The school is on a year round schedule. The driver is intrigued and decides to do some research. From the research, this person found that students are achieving more academically and the teachers are well rested. For example, a school that has 1000 students could rotate them into five groups of 200 students each. Using a multi track schedule also decreases the need for construction of new schools. According to Rivera, of the Washington Post (2003): when employing a multi track schedule, 25 percent more students can attend year round schools, without added construction (para. 8). (9)Additionally, Barber (1996) adds that The Soccoro Independent School District, in Texas, saved 30 million dollars of tax payer money by using a multi track schedule (para. 4). One result of overcrowding is a lack of personal assistance. Remediation Students are struggling in school and need extra remediation. All too often in schools who run on a traditional school calendar, students do not receive the help they need until summer school. By that point it is too late and the student is failing academically. Robert Smotherman, superintendent of Bardstown City School District in Kentucky (as quoted by Wildavsky (1999)) says, Instead of waiting until summer school, you catch him [student] in October, and you ve got a shot at getting him back on track (para. 8). The Role Of Diplomatic Relations Between Germany And Turkey However, many historians have debated not only Germany s role in the severity of Armenian persecution and their motives in involving themselves in the Armenian situation and the, but also their rationale behind forming a relationship with the Ottoman Empire that began in the 1890s. In March of 2007, Dr. Margaret Lavinia Anderson, a Professor Emerita of History at the University of California, Berkeley, published an article in The Journal of Modern History, entitled Down in Turkey, far away : Human Rights, the Armenian Massacres, and Orientalism in Wilhelmine Germany. In this article, Anderson examines the development of diplomatic relations between Germany and Turkey and, more specifically, why Germany became interested in the Near East, their motives, and, later, their alliance. She argues that Germany was mainly focused on developing a strong, influential relationship with the Ottoman Empireduring the Wilhelmine era. An alliance with the Turks would be a joint cooperative effort to strengthen and modernize the failing Ottoman military and ensure safe passage into neighboring British colonies for the Germans, still trying to extend their influence beyond the Ottoman Empire eastward. The Germans sought to accomplish this and create a strong coalition by adopting a compliant attitude towards Armenian persecution and reiterating the Turkish rhetoric and belief that the Armenianswere getting what they deserved. • 14. Research Paper On Traffic Engineering Traffic engineering is that phase of engineering that deals with the planning, geometric design and traffic operations of roads, streets and highways and their networks, terminals, abutting lands and relationships with other modes of transportation for the achievement of safe, efficient and convenient movement of people and goods. Traffic flow, road geometry, sidewalks, crosswalks, cycle facilities, shared lane markings, traffic signs, traffic lights, and more. All of these elements must be considered when designing public and private sector transportation solutions. Traffic engineering applies engineering principles that help solve transportation problems by considering the psychology and habits of the transportation system users. Many people still wonder why a traffic problem is so difficult that an engineer should be called upon for a solution. Why not just install a traffic signal, or raise/lower the speed limit, or erect more signs? One of the greatest obstacles a professional traffic engineer faces in applying sound principles of traffic engineering is competing theories from vocal non traffic engineers who lack expertise. The unfortunate result is the creation of traffic hazards when false theories are put into effect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One method is by using the Problem Classification Coding Scheme (CCS). The CCS is a process to test for issues in the question answering processes. It is a series of 28 questions that go through each stage of answering a survey question. It tests to see if there are any issues in any of the states of answering a question (Schaeffer and Dykema, 2011:919). Another method is to the Question Understanding Aid (QUAID). QUAID is a mechanism to test for issues in wording of a survey question, such as vague words or question length or even grammatical issues. The goal of QUAID is to ensure that each question is grammatically correct, and easy for the respondent to comprehend (Schaeffer and Dykema, 2011, 921). A third method and last method is to use cognitive interviews. Cognitive interviews are small group discussions to talk about issues or topics to help in the process of writing survey questions and making the survey process go quicker (BCB, 2014:434). All three methods will be used for questionnaire improvement. For the cognitive interviews, two interviews were done with people I knew. Student Writers And Experienced Adult Writers Analysis Revision Strategies of Student Writers and Experienced Adult Writers by Nancy Sommers In Nancy Sommer s article she explains how Gordon Rohman s and James Britton s linear models of writing are primarily derived from our speech process and lack focus on revision strategies. Her research shows the differences between how student writers approach revising their papers compared to experienced adult writers. Student writers look at revision as changing words to avoid repetition, not to further develop an idea or rethink an argument. They are simply reviewing the paper for redundancy and taking the language of speech to the more formal language of prose (47). They strategize and theorize to recognize and resolve the dissonance they sense in their writing (51). The experience writers theory has two elements of the revision process which encompasses a holistic perspective and a recursive process. Next, a major effect of concussions is impulsive or irregular behavior which can be defined by aggression, memory loss, and suicide. For example, Michael (fictitious name) was hit during a high school football game in his freshman year and instantly experienced many concussion symptoms, including a contentious temper; he and his family continue to suffer the consequences of his concussion (Kluger 46). The Collapse Of The Soviet Empire And Its Hegemony We often overlook the real causes of the downfall of the Soviet empire and its hegemony, and simply tie it to the fact that they were communist, dictatorial regimes. However, this is not entirely true. There were many factors that resulted in the demise of this socialist conglomerate, and East Germany in particular. The GDR was a special case in that it was racked by some of the worst economic circumstances that any of the Eastern blocfaced, and as result, became the first to fall. Such assumptions compel us to draw equivalencies between the GDR and other communist countries like Yugoslavia, even though East Germanywas at a much more disadvantageous position. The East German military also had to provide the bulk of the non Soviet forces in all Warsaw Pact military plans. This forced the GDR government to forcibly conscript large numbers of their population and spend vast quantities of their funds on military hardware. These elements combined to start the GDR on a slippery slope towards default, and economic turmoil. • 40. The Classification Of Water Imagery Present Throughout... Shakespeare is renowned for his vividly descriptive, original, and pioneering use of imagery in many of his plays, but their effect on the audience s understanding of his plays is most obvious in the tragedies, particularly in Macbeth. Images in Shakespeare s works are used, according to Shakespeare critic G. Wilson Knight, to craft a play s atmosphere or the permeating tone or mood of a play (3). However, this attitude between images and atmosphere creates an environment where different definitions of images contribute to different interpretations of the subjective atmosphere that is born out of each individual reader s perception of the play. Because of this discrepancy, a strict definition of the term image should be observed. The term image will refer to physical objects or actions that are used by Shakespeare to clarify broad themes and character insights throughout the play. Specifically, the classification of water imagery present throughout Macbethwill be discussed broadly to include descriptions of rain, water, and the act of cleansing with water, whether or not they are real or imagined by the characters. Shakespeare uses all of these images to create an atmosphere that highlights Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s guilt and their subsequent desire to purify their tainted moralities. In addition to this, Macbeth will be interpreted through the lens of correcting chaos into order. This righting of natural order is brought forth by the rainstorms of the witches to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An even more extreme view argues that the field as a whole should be abolished because all complex social behavior is collective and to a degree dynamic. Hence the field has no unique subject matter. The collective behavior perspective is thought to apply to all behavior and no unique concepts, theories or methods are needed to understand it, apart from general sociological concepts. If we were starting fresh we could certainly find a better name for the field and perhaps a more logical way of dividing it up (although this could be said of most intellectual fields). The term collective behavior does not have much literal meaning since strictly speaking it includes any group behavior. Yet once established, intellectual traditions are slow to change. The initial definitions of knowledge and questions in this field still exert a powerful hold. Courses and books usually contain the words collective behavior. Critics of this field raise important issues, but as in Kipling s fable of the blind persons and the elephant (where each person correctly identifies a separate part, but all fail to see the whole animal), we think there is a broad logic uniting the field. The logic involves emergent group behavior in settings where cultural guidelines are non specific or lacking, inadequate, or in dispute. B. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The family experiences a terrible sense of loss, as well as a fear that they have to carry on with their lives without their loved one (Rotter, 2000). They have a hard time picturing there knew life and moving on without them. With the familysystem changing it may destroy the relationships that already exists in the family (Bowlby West, 1983). After the death of a family member the most difficult time for the family would be the anniversaries. These anniversaries include the anniversary of the day that the family member died, their birthday as well as special holidays. In 1971 actor and director Melvin Van Peebles wrote, produced, starred in, and composed the soundtrack for the film Sweet Sweetback s Badasssss Song . An entirely black production, it broke the mold of black characterization in feature films. • 54. The Scottsboro Trial The Scottsboro Trials were among the largest legal injustices in the South. The events that started the trials began in the early spring of 1931, when nine young black men were falsely accused of raping two white women on a train. The cases were tried and appealed in Alabama and twice argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. The state pursued the case and all white juries delivered guilty verdicts that initially carried the death penalty. Several of the accused were sentenced to prison terms and all had long stays in prison as the case made its way through the legal system. The case later was one of the inspirations for Harper Lee s book To Kill A Mockingbird The story began on March 25, 1931, when a fight broke out between groups of young ... After Patterson s conviction was upheld in the Alabama Supreme Court, the prosecution and the Scottsboro Defense Committee agreed to a strange compromise in an effort to end the long ordeal. Clarence Norris was convicted of rape and sentenced to death; Norris sentence was subsequently commuted to life imprisonment by Alabama governor. Andy Wright and Charlie Weems also were convicted of rape and sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Rape charges were dropped against Powell, but he was convicted of assaulting the deputy sheriff and sentenced to 20 years. Meanwhile, all charges against the other four defendants Roy Wright, Olen Montgomery, Willie Roberson, and Eugene Williams were dropped. Thus, on the basis of the same body of evidence, four defendants were freed and four convicted. In 1938 a final attempt to win the remaining prisoners freedom failed when both the Alabama Pardon Board and governor Graves denied pardon applications. Charlie Weems was paroled in 1943; Clarence Norris and Andy Wright were paroled a year later but both were sent back to prison shortly thereafter for violating the terms of their probation; Ozzie Powell was paroled in 1946; Haywood Patterson escaped from prison in 1948. This may include single stories, plays, or even a piece of a prose. This assumption allows us to make connections from two different forms of literature and synthesize them into something bigger. A play and poem can have similar or even identical themes, but can be delivered in many different ways. Lorraine Hansberry of A Raisin in the Sun, and Lynda Hull of Night Waitress conveys the message that being a minority is not what makes you who you are, it is your dreams and how you plan to pursue them, is what defines your circumstances. Unfortunately, some overcome adversity, while others are stuck in a daze to distract them from the harsh reality of life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
