The National Living Treasures Award plays an important role in both the discovery of talented artists from the regions as well as in the preservation of ethnic art forms in the following ways: - It recognizes and honors master artists from indigenous communities around the Philippines who have shown excellence in their mastery of traditional art forms over many years. This helps bring attention to talented artists who may otherwise go undiscovered. - By identifying master artists in fields like folk music, dance, textiles, and crafts and awarding them, it helps validate and preserve these ethnic art traditions which are an important part of Philippine cultural heritage. - The award criteria require that awardees must pass on their skills to other community members, helping to ensure the

the vernacular, this award recognizes Filipino artists
that have shown excellence in their mastery of
medium and technique, craftsmanship and
promotion of indigenous beliefs in their practice of
traditional and ethnic art forms in the Philippines
such as pottery, weaving, carving, etc.

7. National Living Treasures Award
The NCCA follows these guidelines in identifying and recognizing a person as a
Manlilikha ng Bayan in the field of folk epic literature, music, textile, and mat
weaving, dance, metal work, and casque production:
He or she is an inhabitant of an indigenous/ traditional cultural
community anywhere in the Philippines.
He/she must have engaged in a folk art tradition that has been in
existence and documented for at least 50 years.
He/she must have consistently performed or produced, over a
significant period, works of superior and distinctive quality.

8. National Living Treasures Award
The NCCA follows these guidelines in identifying and recognizing a person as a
Manlilikha ng Bayan in the field of folk epic literature, music, textile, and mat
weaving, dance, metal work, and casque production:
He/she must possess a mastery of tools and materials needed by
the art
He/she must pass on and/or will pass on to other members of the
community their skills in the folk art for which the community is
traditionally known.

2. Lang Dulay
Dulay was a 1998 winner from Lake
Sebu, South Cotabato. Since the time
she was 12 until her death in 2015 at
the age of 91, she had been weaving
the designs she saw in her dreams as
a member of the T’boli tribe, a group of
indigenous people who have come to
be known as the “dream weavers
tribe” for their centuries old tinalak
weaving.
